something something Nico accepts becoming immortal for the sake of the after generations. Why? Because gods don't change and demigods - Percy, Annabeth, Reyna, Hazel, all of them - could only live for so long. Who's gonna shoulder the prophecies when they leave? Who's gonna make sure the promise to Luke Castellan is fulfilled? Who would remember Jason Grace?
So Nico stays. He stays to witness the change that Apollo brings. He keeps the memories alive. He's where the demigods, old and new, return to. The same way everything would sooner or later reunite in death.

I have returned with another nico rare pair meeting the father this time ft a special deity
Nico: Father? Im bringing in my boyfriend ok? You swore on Styx herself to not blast him to oblivion
Hades: I don’t get why you’re so worried, I would never tamper with your happiness.
Nico: if you say so
Nico grabbed a hand behind the door and pulled in a guy with straight black hair, gold eyes, and a necklace
Hades: NICO?! Do not tell me thats-
Nico: Father, meet my boyfriend, Anubis 🥹
Anubis: Hello Lord Hades, nice to see you again after a few millennia’s
Hades: Son?? A deity associated with the dead?!
Nico: I know every death associated deity from the meeting father, we all live in neighboring underworlds
Hades: DID YOU NOT LEARN FROM YOUR MOTHERS MISTAKES?! HAVE YOU NOT SEEN WHAT HAPPENED TO HER?!
Nico: DAD?! EXCUSE ME?! 🤨😨
Anubis *looking straight into Hermes’ camera recording everything*: I love drama 🤗

When Nico becomes immortal the only thing he does to change his appearance is make himself a little bit taller. Like he was previously 5’7 but now he’s 5’10.

once again thinking about the worldbuilding in the riordanverse of "names are power" / "belief is power."
The Tri were only able to become immortal through convincing enough people to worship them that it became true. Monsters and immortals only exist through continued belief, and if enough people believe that they're dead or gone then it becomes true, like Pan. Their varied forms exist and manifest as they're believed in and called upon. Names call attention and epithets summon aspects. They're acknowledgement. Belief. Putting a name to a concept creates it as an individual.
And that's so fascinating when you start applying it to demigods. How much of their abilities are based on belief in themselves, in expectations of each other, in their parents' expectations of them? We've seen mortal figures who became immortal in some form or another because they were remembered. Even the lares - ancestral house gods, who persist because they're remembered. They have a legacy.
At what point does a demigod achieve that status? Rumors and whispers about them so persistent that they slowly become true. "I heard that Jason Grace is the son of two gods, does that make him a god?" "I heard Percy Jackson defeated a titan single-handedly. That he can create hurricanes without breaking a sweat. That he can control blood." After awhile, after enough rumors, does it become impossible to tell where they end and the legends begin? Isn't that what being a demigod is; half-legend?

We know Thalia threw Percy under the bus by making sure he'd be the prophecy child instead of her...but Percy wasn't able to do that to Nico even if he wanted to. He has no option to be immortal. The prophecy was always going to fall to Percy because he's two years older than Nico and that's how time works.

Imagine god! Nico personally escorting Hazel's ghost to the Underworld. He holds her hand throughout the entire journey; refuses to let it - her - go as he stands with her before the three judges. And Hades is there for once, waiting for his children. Once the judgment is passed - Hazel is offered her rightful place in Elysium, as expected - he extends a hand to his daughter, who simply smiles as she grasps it with her free hand.
There's much to be said, but none of them speak as they continue their journey. Not that Nico could muster any words; it's not his first permanent goodbye, but it's the last and the most painful one. He reigns his emotion well, he believes, watching with a smile as Hazel disappears past the gates of Elysium. It's only when the weight of his father's hand rests on his shoulder that the dam breaks.
This is the most painful price he has to pay for accepting immortality - watching as his loved ones pass one by one. He's aware of the consequences of his decision, but each passing still chips away parts of his soul that he will never recover.
"Watch over her for me?" He asks of his father once he's able to regain his composure.
His father offers him a rare smile. "Always."

Ever think about how nico and jason are so entrenched in the mythological world? Like disregarding the hunters of artemis, these two arguably have the strongest connections to the gods as they both have jobs that likely require them to have direct contact with the gods.
Jason essentially vowed his life to the gods at the end of boo with his promise to build temples for every single one of them. Nico has direct contact with his father, presumably runs errands for him in the underworld, and probably has contact w gods from other pantheons (this isnt canon but c’mon).
No one in new rome regularly communes with the god and usually greek demigods would only ever meet them on rare quests. Neither jason or nico have have any ties to the mortal world either. At the end of the day theyre both little messenger boys for the gods

I don’t even need Nico to fight Zeus. I can settle with just Nico, calm and unafraid, looking right into Zeus’ freezing blue eyes, saying “You’re scared of me.”

Im suddenly imagining how awkward it would be if lukezag and connico not knowing the other is dating accidentally met up in the underworld. I imagined the scenario as
Nico: LUKE?!
Luke: KID?!
Zagreus and Connor just looked at eachother quietly
Nico turning to Zag: I thought you had better taste?!
Luke: Mind your mouth I am a hot piece of ass!
Connor, laughing maniacally : Family dinner is gonna be sooo fucking awkward huh?!
Zagreus just questions his life
And Hades? Well…
Hades: Look im glad you both found someone but those it have to be those Hermes spawns?
Zag n Nico: Well, they can be helpful in the underworld?
Zag: Luke can train soldiers alongside Nico?
Nico: No, but Connor is a psychopomp so he can help Thanatos?
Hades: Fine.
Persephone: Congratulations dear, you got yourself 2 troublemaker son in laws

Mmmmm
Solangelo time
I also saw on @yonemurishiroku post that they pray that will becomes immortal as well, and now I wonder what his role/title will be. So my brain rotted and now I give you this as well:
Will Solace: Underworld physician of the gods. The ghost kings consort.
Considering that the campers pray that Will becomes a god after he dies, the darkness of the underworld shouldn't bother him anymore. The title of ghost kings consort is essentially a formality to allow him to go wherever the Ghost King goes, like camp half-blood and camp Jupiter, despite his role in the underworld. Because Nico is also the god of demigods and their legacies.

One thing that's been on my mind lately is why did the gods offer percy immortality at the end of pjo and didn't offer to the seven at the end of hoo? (six actually cause leo was technically dead)

im personally a huge fan of how it’s heavily implied in the series that Nico is guaranteed to be deified or otherwise granted some form of immortality and a special position in the Underworld after he dies cause a.) yes, he deserves it, good for him
but also b.) this opens the possibility of so much comedic potential. imagine a scene of Nico perishing in front of his friends and everybody is just standing there horrified for a minute. And then Nico just walks up behind them perfectly fine and goes “Well that hurt. Anyways.” and scares the shit out of everyone.
This is applicable for sure any time post-HoO but also potentially just post-TLO. He’s a to-be-immortal! That’s a guaranteed thing for him! We should do more with that.
