I'm tired of people thinking if you're a part of X group you're somehow not at all capable of saying or doing anything offensive or harmful to said group, nor can be criticised or held accountable. I spent so many years wallowing in internalised homophobia, and it took me a long time to get over it. I said a lot of harmful stuff back then that I deeply regret and am ashamed of now. Trans people can still perpetuate transphobic tropes that hurt others too.
#transphobia / #genitalia / #rape / #abuse / #weed / #prinkse /
absolutely. perfectly said.
mu perpetuates a lot of harmful ideas in a public forum frequented by many in those oppressed groups… for example, in the fic im talking about right now, they have taako forcefully remove, in sexual punishment, a watch from lucas that mu poses as an aid for genital dysphoria (which not all trans people have).
mu then has taako say, “That’s better. Your boner was disgusting.“ which is… horrifically transphobic. imagine a trans man hearimg that after an aid for genital dysphoria was ripped away. imagine a trans man reading this.
early on when i was reading the fic i was turning over the thought “well, i guess in a fantasy setting, if a trans man DID have genital dysphoria it’s within reason that he could find a magic aide to help with that…?” but that idea was proven false to me as i read on. this concept is obviously just a sex thing for mu rather than any serious attempt at portraying trans people in a fantasy setting.
then mu has taako make fun of lucas’ voice for “being gross.” another thing many, many trans men struggle with in their dysphoria is their voices. this was just in utterly poor taste and not considering at all that trans men may read this fic, thinking they might get some kind of positive representation.
mu then has taako ask lucas if he smokes. lucas shakes his head in a no. taako forces him to inhale from a blunt when he is literally unable to resist.
towards the end of the fic, they kiss, “caught up in the passion.” taako has sharp teeth in this portrayal and shreds up lucas’ lip. lucas is amazed that taako kissed him, taako has a violently negative reaction to this, kicks lucas in the chest, and runs out. lucas sighs in a “lovesick” way.
mu has this weird fascination with having taako hate having romantic feelings for other men. over and over again in their fics, they have taako loathe his feelings in a way that really reminds one of internalized homophobia. and to portray taako as willingly physically harming a partner when forced to confront this is just… horrific. it’s thoughtless.
it’s especially troubling that someone in their 30s thinks that this is okay to publish in a public forum frequented by many people who are forced to confront its existence, even if they don’t read it.
my friend charlie, who is a trans dude, said this:
“As a trans guy it makes me more than a little uncomfortable that you seem to think causing a trans character dysphoria as punishment is sexual? Not to mention specifically degrading things like his voice (something trans guys struggle with) and then also drugging him? I understand you’re trying to write trans representation but using someone’s trans identity against them to degrade them is NOT the way to do it.”
i don’t like mu. i don’t like the content mu produces and thinks is okay to publish. i am very wary of mu and their friends, and i think for good reason.
