Hey have a fucked up TAZ thought for the day. Gently pushing aside Merle and Gundran somehow literally being blood related, the people that the seven birds like grew up with and knew before the IPRE obviously wouldn’t… exist on Faerun. Or even if we take Griffin’s hand-wavey explanation of Gundran and accept that there are some of the same people in this particular planar system, these versions of those people wouldn’t have the faintest goddamn clue who the birds are. From what we’ve seen of the voidfish, it will to an extent overwrite its own inconsistencies, but it doesn’t have the ability to implant totally false memories in disconnected people. Lucretia couldn’t have done that.
And I know we kind of generally agree that all of our birds are orphaned and generally solitary people, which is borne up by none of them (LUCKILY FOR GRIFFIN LMAO) ever randomly being like hey let me roll to see if my dear childhood friend Claire lives in Goldcliff now or something or otherwise referencing connections from their childhood, but like— they couldn’t possibly have known no one at all who was still alive and in touch with them when they blasted off to space.
So like. What if, after the destruction of Raven’s Roost, Magnus actually tried to do the healthy thing first. He’s devastated, he’s not thinking straight, but he’s not quite at fling himself off a cliff in despair levels, so he does what you’re supposed to do: he reaches out to a friend. No one from Raven’s Roost, obviously, but an older friend, someone he met on fantasy study abroad and had maintained a pen pal relationship with for years. He hasn’t written to them recently, of course, bc he’s been so busy with the rebellion, and Julia—he sent them an invitation to his wedding but they must not have been able to come. Or it got lost in the fantasy mail! Shit happens—but he feels sure they wouldn’t turn him away, certainly not in this state. They’d at least give him somewhere to crash for a week, let him sleep through some of the worst of the grief.
He turns up on their doorstep and they’re—not there. According to the gnome couple that live there, they’ve never been there. This has been the gnome couple’s house for 120 years. No one of the name Magnus is giving has lived here since before he was born.
He asks around town. Goes to the school he studied at and asks for records. Literally hires a divination wizard to try a scry because he’s fucking desperate at this point.
This person, this person Magnus got sloppy drunk with, who got into a bar fight back to back with him, who helped him struggle through Elvish grammar and cantrip lessons, who wrote to him about the gorgeous half-orc boy they wanted to marry, who sent him chocolate every Candlenights, this person doesn’t. Fucking. Exist. Has never existed, as far as Magnus or anyone else can tell.
Spooked, and grieving no less, and seriously afraid for his friend’s well being, Magnus thinks okay. Okay. He needs help. He needs perspective. He tries someone else, someone maybe a little more distant but still reliable. An old school coach, maybe. Someone who gave him his first sparring sessions when he was training to be a fighter.
That man did exist, but he’s been dead for eight years according to people in town. Which isn’t fucking possible, because Magnus saw him for lunch four years ago.
Okay. Okay. Okay. Someone else. Who else can he talk to.
He goes to a town where he once spent a summer interning for a dog trainer. He learned so much there. It would be good to be around dogs again.
The woman he trained with has no memory of him at all. She doesn’t recognize him, she doesn’t recognize his name, she doesn’t believe him when he says he knows her. She doesn’t recognize half the dogs he talks about. She chases him off her property, accusing him of trying to steal from her, although he hadn’t asked for anything.
The next one was dead too.
The next one didn’t know him either.
The next one didn’t exist.
Magnus’s family, friends, and acquaintances are a string of “dead” “don’t remember him” or “apparently, never fucking real” until he says fine, fucking fine. He’s not the type to spiral into despair. He’ll do some good before he goes out.
But he is going to go out.
Because if no one still alive even knows who he is, what is he living for?

Hey do you have any tips for helping anxiety with dogs and teaching confidence, I'm not sure where to start
so every dog is different and what they're anxious about does matter so I would certainly recommend seeking a trainer to work with your dog to get the best results!
in terms of general confidence building exercises here's some ideas!
body awareness - having confidence in how their body moves will help them feel more capable of overcoming obstacles, escaping instead of reacting, and overall help them feel more confident in themselves. This can be things like paw targets, rear targets, heel work, back up, crawling under things, jumping over heights, jumping between things, cavalettis, anything that teaches them how their body moves, where their body is, and their physical capabilities.
Tumblr media
Surfaces - same reasons as above, walking along uneven surfaces so they can learn balance and develop a strong core. Surfaces that make sounds (paper, tinfoil, pots), wobble, or any unusual material they may not have pawed before can help them feel safer and more confident in strange and new environments. I used tarps, pots, baking sheets, and workout balls for a lot of this! take advantage of your environment, drain grates, fallen trees and playgrounds offer all sorts of new unfamiliar surfaces to explore. With this you can encourage them to walk on it, paw it, nose boop, sit, down, spin, and do a variety of behaviours around these surfaces to further build stability.
Tumblr media
Pattern games - predictability is so anxiety-relieving, being able to establish a pattern that gives them more predictability in uncertain scenarios can help alleviate a ton of that pressure. There are a load of pattern games to play! The most common one is 1-2-3 where you count to three and treat on three. This way when you start counting your dog knows exactly what's happening, gives them something reliable to focus on and help them cope with the anxious scenario. An example may be walking past a trigger, you start counting and instead of fixating on the trigger your dog begins excitedly focusing on you instead of the trigger as you speed past. Pattern games can be a great way to ease your dog in to an anxious scenario by giving them something reliable to focus on so it's not as overwhelming.
Control - putting them in control of when the scary thing occurs makes the entire situation more predictable to them. If they're scared of a certain sound you could ask the dog to paw the object so They make the sound instead of it being spontaneous. You could also use a start button behaviour so the dog cues when you present the scary item/ sound, i.e the dog gives you eye contact, you bring out the scary thing, mark, reward and remove the object. (beginning of these sessions she would hide if she saw a can that had made a sound)
Puzzle feeders/ sniffing games - Gives them more confidence over their own abilities. Puzzle feeders can help them focus on a task and learn to overcome small manageable challenges by themselves, as well as being exposed to strange sounds that they create by slapping and shuffling the puzzle parts around. Sniffing games help them learn how to use their nose, have confidence in their capacity to locate and understand a smell, as well as give a solid outlet for energy, and encourage deep breathing which can lower heart rate/ encourage a more relaxed brain.
Exposure - just watch some things! sit at a safe distance away where your dog can watch strange, scary, or unfamiliar things and be able to process what they are. offer treats for observing and make positive associations with those things.
Decompression. - anxiety builds, it's important to provide opportunities to slow down and relax so they can shake off the stress and reset. If you just jump from one anxiety training session to the next that pressure can continuously build up and get worse. Decompression days could be things like a slow walk in a familiar, comfortable environment, easy games in the house, scatter feeding kibble, hiding treats around the house, or just napping the day away.

I do a lot of thinking about adding a second dog. I’ve been doing research and talking with breeders and trying to get my life situated. Besides my living situation failing to line up for a second dog I have one obstacle.
Aayla set the bar so high I am worried about my next dog.
I say often that I find Aayla the perfect dog. At least for me. She was a fantastic puppy. Sleeping through the night by 9 weeks, potty trained by 10 weeks, and was less destructive than most adult dogs I know.
She has picked up all the sports I’ve wanted to do. While we’ve never been top of the competition she is reliably good. We moved through agility with a higher Q rate than most while also being quick and competitive for a non-border collie. She does great in obedience, loved dock diving and was a great performer.
She was a fantastic demo dog for my classes, she was good (not great but she can’t be perfect at everything) with my reactive clients, and understands context with scary accuracy.
Not that everything has been easy. She also has pushed me and challenged me in ways I never expected. She forced me to become a better trainer and let go of a lot of bad training habits I have. She is hyper social and gets over excited easily for greetings. That’s been a challenge I have yet to get her over. Yet the same dog that will cry and wail and be unable to focus when greeting friends can walk through a crazy busy trial with dogs and people everywhere and not even try to greet anyone.
Overall she is attached to me without much separation anxiety. (Had a random small bout of it recently but that seems gone) She is happy at home, or in the car or a new place alone.
She almost always can adapt to any situation. I can take her anywhere with confidence that at most I’ll need to mark and reward some engagement but overall she is fine. She is good with kids, adults, loud noises, overall chaos in public settings and so on. I can take her to a friends house let her loose and not think about her getting into mischief. I can leave her outside in a new place and know that when I open the door she will still be nearby. I can throw her in with any well socialized dogs and not be worried. I can throw her in with rude dogs and puppies with some supervision and interventions. She gets along with my sisters 2lbs Yorkie and large mastiffs. She has got along with cats and other furry animals.
I can’t say enough good things about her. So I’m worried for my next dog a bit that I’ll expect them to be like her. Which isn’t fair. Aayla has set the bar so high that I don’t think I will own another dog that will match her. I just hope when I do get a puppy Aayla will still be young enough to show it the ropes. How to be a good trial dog, a good brewery dog and a good go everywhere dog.

Unleashing the Potential: Why Dog Training Bumpers are the Ultimate Tool for Gun Dog Training
Tumblr media
In the world of gun dog training, where precision, discipline, and reliability reign supreme, trainers seek tools that elevate their canine partners to the pinnacle of performance. Enter the unsung hero of the training field: the dog training bumper. More than just a prop, these seemingly simple devices are the secret weapon behind the mastery of retrievers and other gun dog breeds. Let's delve into what makes dog training bumpers indispensable and superior to any other tool in the arsenal of a gun dog trainer.
Precision in Simulation
The essence of effective gun dog training lies in the ability to simulate real-world hunting scenarios. Dog training bumpers excel in this aspect by closely mimicking the size, shape, and texture of game birds. Unlike other training aids, such as balls or sticks, bumpers provide a realistic experience that bridges the gap between training field and hunting ground. This precision in simulation is unmatched, ensuring that every retrieve prepares the dog for the challenges of the field.
Safety and Durability
While the thrill of the hunt is exhilarating, it is imperative to prioritize the safety and well-being of both the dog and wildlife during training sessions. Dog training bumpers offer a safe alternative to using live game, eliminating the risk of injury to animals and ensuring ethical training practices. Moreover, bumpers are durable and resilient, capable of withstanding the rigors of repeated use in various training environments. Unlike makeshift alternatives, such as makeshift toys or objects, bumpers provide consistency and reliability, crucial for effective training.
Versatility Beyond Compare
Dog training bumpers exemplify versatility, offering a range of functionalities that cater to the diverse requirements of gun dog trainers. They seamlessly adapt to various training scenarios, enabling trainers to optimize sessions for their specific goals.
Land Retrieves
Bumpers excel in land retrieves, providing dogs with ample opportunities to hone their retrieving skills on solid ground. Whether it's practicing short retrieves in a field or mastering long-distance retrieves across challenging terrain, bumpers offer consistent performance and durability.
Water Retrieves
One of the standout features of dog training bumpers is their buoyancy, which makes them ideal for water retrieves. Whether in a pond, lake, or river, trainers can confidently incorporate bumpers into water training sessions, allowing dogs to refine their retrieving abilities in aquatic environments.
Blind Retrieves
For advanced training exercises such as blind retrieves, bumpers prove invaluable. Trainers can strategically place bumpers in concealed locations, challenging dogs to rely solely on their handler's cues to locate and retrieve the hidden objects. This fosters problem-solving skills and enhances the dog's ability to follow directions in real-life hunting scenarios.
Distinct Color Options
Bumpers are available in a variety of vibrant colors, each serving a specific purpose in training. Trainers can utilize contrasting colors to improve visibility and aid dogs in marking and tracking exercises. By associating different colors with specific commands or objectives, trainers enhance communication and reinforce desired behaviors in their canine companions.
Tailored Training Sessions
The unparalleled versatility of dog training bumpers empowers trainers to customize sessions according to the individual needs and strengths of their dogs. Whether focusing on obedience, endurance, or precision, trainers can adapt exercises to challenge dogs at their own pace, maximizing growth and development.
Dog training bumpers offer a multifaceted approach to gun dog training, accommodating various environments, skill levels, and training objectives. Their adaptability and functionality make them indispensable tools in the quest to unlock the full potential of every canine hunting partner.
Conclusion:
In the dynamic world of gun dog training, where excellence is non-negotiable, dog training bumpers emerge as the ultimate tool for success. Their precision in simulation, safety, durability, versatility, and ability to enhance learning make them indispensable assets in the arsenal of any gun dog trainer. By harnessing the power of dog training bumpers, trainers unlock the full potential of their canine partners, paving the way for unparalleled achievements in the pursuit of hunting excellence.

For the Pokemon meme- 1, 11 and 22! And also passing along the be sure to stay hydrated train :)
Eeee thanks for the ask!! I haven't done tumblr asks in a while
1) Who was your first starter?
Turtwig!! I was pretty late to the game for Pokemon, but I adore him!! Sadly, I really don't use the line very much bc they're weak/allergic to everything
11) List your top 6 favorite Pokemon
1. Espeon!! I had one in my og Diamond file that just blasted through everything and that's what put it on my radar. I also love its simple and elegant design and I'd love to have one follow me around. I also really like the emphasis on bond and trust in all its dex entries
2. Raichu - it's just so big and looks so nice and soft and pudgy to hold and hug. And also absolutely strong enough to decimate my enemies. It also seems like the least loved member of the Pika-line, (most of its anime appearances are basically Raichu slander lol) but Alolan Raichu is nothing but soft pancake-loving perfection
3. Lucario - bit of a basic choice but i will always love this reliable ace. It was also one of my friend's favorite pokemon who helped get me into Pokemon, so there's the nostalgia points there. And no one can deny that Lucario's movie was, and still is, an absolute banger
4. Ponyta - again with the nostalgia play, but Ponyta was the first pokemon i learned. (I guess separate fun fact is that my first pokemon I learned wasn't Pikachu). I also grew up riding horses and still do, and the little childhood desire of being able to ride and own a literal fire horse has not subsided. It's also got a real cute face
5. Hisuian Arcanine - Kantoian Arcanine has always hovered near the top of my favorites list, but when the Hisuian form came out? Instant top. I love it's design and also it's callback to historic asian guard dogs. Also who could resist a giant fluffy dog to help hunt down your enemies and then lower your heating bill in the winter?
6. Meowscarada - after a lot of internal debate, I've gotta give the last spot to my Scarlet ace. Initially, I actually hated how the final form of our grass cat looked, but it's definitely grown on me (though the puffy sleeves and weird hand-paws are still problem but we're fixing that in fanart wut). And working to develop my ScarVio muse’s Meowscarada’s personality and arc for my slew of fics that hopefully will make it out of google docs one day lol has also endeared it to me. Also Scarvio has been the first mainline Pokemon game to really grab me since XY, so Meowscarada gets points for that too
Honorable mentions (bc that last choice was hard) - Eevee, Buizel, Absol, Torterra and Latios
22) - If you were a gym leader, what would your typing/theme be?
I love that this question says theme, because I've always wondered how Gym Leaders and E4 end up specializing in types. Besides for Misty, I don't remember anyone in canon who wasn't already a gym leader deciding to specialize in only one type (yeah I know Misty becomes a gym leader, but when she battled Ash in like. ep maybe 7, she barely was). Because they must've had mixed teams when they were up and coming trainers, winning leagues and challenging Champions and such. I much prefer some of the mixed teams of the ScarVio teachers in the Academy Ace tournament and then Battle Frontier brains in the anime that have a unifying theme instead. Like an international gym with all final forms of starters would be cool
As for me, it's so basic, but I'd love an Eeveelution gym with Eevee as the ace, maybe with Gmax, even though I haven't finished Shield yet. But if I had to pick a type, I think I'd go Fire-type with Hisuian Arcanine as my ace, along with Ponyta/Rapidash, Hisuian Typhlosian, Delphox, Houndoom, and maybe Salazzle
And yes!! Hydrating is good!! Hydrate or die-drate. Currently doing with tea

Things You Should Consider Before Hiring A Professional Dog Training
Tumblr media
It is time to look for a dog trainer if you need assistance promoting desired behaviors in your dog and discouraging undesirable ones. Dog trainers impart fundamental cues and abilities to owners and their canine companions, such as crate training and housetraining. Additionally, they assist in resolving undesirable behaviors such as troublesome digging, leaping up on people, chewing, and barking.
The best and most efficient way of training dogs, according to the best trainers, is based on a good relationship. The dog will want to spend time and work with you if you have a solid relationship with them and have their trust.
Experience
A dog trainer’s experience is a crucial consideration before employing them. You must be aware that teachers’ experience and expertise vary substantially. How long has this trainer been training dogs, for instance?
Do they possess credentials from a recognized dog training facility? If none of these queries have a positive response, keep looking. A skilled professional dog trainer will have a ton of experience working with various dog breeds, sorts of canines, and scenarios in this field of Professional Dog Training. To continue learning and perfecting their dog training expertise, they should enroll in courses or, at the very least, send their trainers to further classes, just like any true professional would.
Techniques Employed in Instruction
Different trainers train dogs using various techniques. Nate Schoemer Dog Training professional favorable praise and threats as forms of positive reinforcement. While some approach working with dogs in a balanced way, others employ aversive or correction-based tactics.
Before choosing a trainer, one must inquire about their preferred teaching techniques. You want to train your dog in a relaxing way for you and the animal.
Concerning Training Philosophy
When teaching dogs, different trainers have different training philosophies. You can get all these facilities from Elite Dog Training Services. These include positive reinforcement, in which a dog is trained via rewards and compliments, and negative reinforcement, in which a dog is taught right from wrong by punishment or by removing a rewarding aspect. It would help if you enquired extensively about the trainer’s philosophy and method of working with dogs and various behavioral concerns because this area may perplex both dog owners and many inexperienced trainers. Before hiring a trainer, it is crucial to inquire about their ideology. It would help if you ensured their ideals were compatible with your own.
Conclusion
Examining a dog trainer’s web reviews and client references is one of the most reliable ways to determine whether they are competent. There will be no shortage of happy clients who are more than happy to speak well of a good dog trainer. They should, on average, have 100 or more Google reviews, which is a solid sign that they have trained 400 to 500 dogs. If you are willing to take care of your dog by yourself, then you can get a lot of Online Dog Training Courses available, you can go through.

i’m curious as to how you went about training your dogs when they were puppies. i want to get a spitz breed one day but all the advice i see is done with handler focused breeds and i don’t want to set unrealistic expectations for the future pup
Couch Wolves is my favorite blog to point to because I love the way Molly talks about dogs and she’s a great actual trainer with certifications that loves and is passionate about primitives. I’m not a trainer, just a person doing things with dogs I love and I’ve only raised one of my dogs from early puppyhood (Sigurd…Zombie arrived at 1 year and Slash at 6 mo.)
The thing I always tell people to remember is: be patient, comparison to handlers with biddable and non-primitive dogs is a useless exercise that will exist only to make you feel bad about the speed in which your dog achieves certain behaviors. And most importantly, understand that your dog’s motivations are different and that’s okay.
You can use primitive friendly activities as a reward (many people and trainers aim to stop pulling for example, but I find getting to pull an excellent reward for the primitive dog if they enjoy it), your rewards may look different than others, that’s okay. It may take you a long time to trust your dog’s reliability in certain situations and that’s okay. Your dog has a mind of its own and that’s okay, it’s WONDERFUL actually and likely what made them so good at their job in the first place.
I use a lot of positive reinforcement with my dogs, especially as puppies but I operate on a LIMA philosophy because sometimes the primitive dog does need a bit more firmness in areas R+ only people don’t prefer to go to. They also don’t respond well, in my experience, to more averse training as they can stubborn their way right through more averse tools. Meat, cheese and other gross food rewards are your friend with primitives. Feed their meals in training sessions, especially early on. The earlier you can work on creating a really positive handler engagement the better.

How to Know If Your Dog Is Ready for Duck Hunting
Tumblr media
Duck hunting is a popular outdoor activity enjoyed by many enthusiasts, and having a well-trained and reliable hunting dog is crucial for a successful hunt. Training a dog for duck hunting requires time, effort, and patience. It's essential to ensure your dog is adequately prepared before taking them out into the field. In this article, we'll discuss how to determine if your dog is ready for duck hunting and offer some tips to help you assess their readiness.
Basic Obedience
Before even considering duck hunting with your dog, they should have a solid foundation in basic obedience commands. These commands include "sit," "stay," "come," "heel," and "fetch." Your dog should respond promptly and consistently to these commands, both on and off-leash. If your dog doesn't have a strong grasp of obedience, it's not yet ready for the complexities of hunting.
Socialization
A well-socialized dog is less likely to become anxious or aggressive in hunting situations. Your dog should be comfortable around other dogs, people, and unfamiliar environments. Socialization helps reduce distractions and ensures your dog remains focused on the task at hand when out in the field.
Exposure to Water
Duck hunting often takes place near bodies of water, and your dog should be comfortable and confident in aquatic environments. Start by introducing your dog to water gradually, using positive reinforcement to create a positive association. Allow them to wade, swim, and retrieve objects from the water. Ensure they can handle different water conditions, including cold water, strong currents, and marshy areas.
Retrieval Skills
One of the most critical skills for a duck hunting dog is retrieving. Your dog should retrieve objects reliably both on land and in water. Practice retrieving various objects, gradually increasing the distance and difficulty of the retrieves. Make sure your dog is comfortable carrying decoys and retrieving downed ducks without damaging them.
Exposure to Gunfire
Duck hunting involves the use of firearms, so it's essential to desensitize your dog to gunfire. Start with soft sounds like cap guns and gradually work your way up to actual shotgun sounds. Always use positive reinforcement and make the experience enjoyable for your dog. If your dog shows signs of fear or anxiety around gunfire, consult a professional trainer for help.
Camouflage Training
Duck hunting often requires dogs to remain still and hidden in blinds or tall grass for extended periods. Train your dog to be comfortable in these environments and to remain still and quiet when needed. Use camouflage materials to create a blind and practice waiting patiently with your dog.
Field Training
Once your dog has mastered the above skills, it's time to take them out into the field for simulated hunting scenarios. Start with controlled environments, such as training grounds or private properties with permission, to gradually expose your dog to hunting situations. This will help your dog become accustomed to the sights, sounds, and smells of a real hunt.
Conclusion
Duck hunting can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience when you have a well-trained and prepared hunting dog by your side. However, it's crucial to assess your dog's readiness before taking them into the field. Ensure they have a strong foundation in obedience, socialization, retrieval skills, and exposure to water and gunfire. With proper training and preparation, you and your dog can have a safe and successful duck hunting season. Remember that each dog progresses at its own pace, so be patient and always prioritize your dog's well-being and comfort during the training process.

How I fell for cycling 🚲
At the beginning of the pandemic I noticed my body changing due to the lack of activity. I’d walk my dog, climb flights of stairs at work, stand all day moving around to assist students, jog, and cycle occasionally. Being home all day and teaching from behind the computer screen was only convenient for 3 reasons
1. Ease of restroom breaks
2. Goals for water consumption
3. Commuting and wasted hours of work travel eliminated
I knew that I couldn’t continue in this manner so I set out to build my home gym- which up until that point, contained a DB method machine and my mini stepper which I brought home from work, weights, a stability ball and a 6 lb medicine ball. Years prior I had a treadmill, elliptical, and weights but my home was much larger before relocating to the northeast.  I began my search for rowing machines, ellipticals, and bikes- all things that are great on joints. I used to run a lot but ended up with a foot injury training for a half marathon and running has never been the same- not to mention I didn’t miss having to sleep with my shins wrapped in homemade ice packs ( alcohol and ice cubes).
As an educator who stresses the importance of research to my students, I didn’t shy away from all of the research necessary to rank the machines by the lowest barrier to entry, price point, efficiency of the machines, company reviews, subscriptions vs one-time purchases and warranties.
Finding a machine from a reliable company proved to be challenging. In the past, all of my machines were life fitness. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get these due to inventory and supply issues due to all of the unknowns of the pandemic at that time. Seems like I’d waited too long to grab a machine and that I wasn’t the only one with this bright idea.
I ended up purchasing a Pro Form  hybrid trainer( which I’d never heard of until this purchase). The machine was an elliptical/recumbent bike. I loved the idea of having cardio options in my own personal gym without having to go outdoors. I purchased the machine and my boyfriend assisted me with putting the machine together.
For the first few weeks it was great! I couldn’t stay off of it. Shortly afterwards it began making a scrubbing noise and I could feel grinding. We took the machine back apart and couldn’t locate the issue. Hoping something shifted back into place. We reassembled the machine.  Needless to say, I began using his recumbent Schwinn bike and returned my hybrid machine back to Dicks. The best thing about the purchase was me actually deciding to return it instead of continuing to waste time tinkering with it and when I made up my mind, it just so happened to be the 90th day (you have 90 days to make returns on those items).
So now I was back to square 1…I no longer saw the benefit to a hybrid machine as one repair, faulty or broken part means the entire machine is rendered useless. I began to look for spin bikes. Again, inventory was low so I expanded my search to bikes in general. I didn’t want to pay a subscription so I ruled out numerous bikes there. I also didn’t need a large fancy monitor, but instead, focused on the bike features and settled on a NordicTrack Grand Tour indoor bike.
NordicTrack is a well-known company, I remember seeing infomercials and ads for their machines, I could purchase the machines outright, avoid subscriptions, and still have a screen on the machine with the option of using a 180 tablet/cell phone holder/laptop desk.
In my opinion, the best feature of this bike is the active incline. A years worth of iFIT recorded workouts, and live classes came with the purchase of the machine. While taking the live class, a pre-recorded trail or city ride my bike’s resistance and incline automatically adjust based on the setting from the instructor (in the live/pre-recorded classes) or simulating the terrain on the pre-recorded city or trail rides.
What I love about the NordicTrack is that it helped me with my endurance for my REI A.R.D. 1.1 road bike. More to come on that later.
My home gym: stationary bike, mini stepper, resistance bands, balance ball, squat machine, and weekly planner.

The Nordictrack Grand Tour with active incline and ifit
DB method- I like it a lot and was surprised to find a youtube channel where they modeled whole body reps for workouts! It currently holds the balance ball when not in use 😬

how did you start working towards becoming an emotional support dog trainer?! that is like.. my lil sisters Big dream 🥺 she works at a doggie daycare now and loves the work but hates her job and i rly wanna help her plan out how to move towards her passion slowly!!
hello friend! this is such a sweet question!
so there are a wide range of types of training you can learn how to do, and i would say that step 1, is to do some research figure out what is most appealing to you! some trainers love dog sports like FCAT, dock diving, agility, rally, etc, some do exclusively aggression cases, some train working dogs, etc. there's a LOT out there to learn about, and it is important to find what you're passionate about in a job that is so difficult. dog training has a high burnout rate, so some of the best advice i ever received was to find Your Thing. i do train dogs of all kinds, i have worked with service animals (dogs task trained to help people with a disability, teaching them how to smell seizures for example), dogs who need behavior modification (reactivity and aggression cases), and pet/ESA training (leash manners, obedience, tricks). but my favorite thing to work on and my specialty is in service dog training. i am working on narrowing that scope even further to specify scent training!
the other thing about the dog training field, is that it is completely and 100% unregulated. this means anybody with a leash can make a website and call themselves a dog trainer, which can make it difficult to know who to trust with your dog. it's kind of crazy, there are no certifications w any legal standing required to become a dog trainer in the US!
because of this, there are a few routes you can take. there are a number of online courses (CATCH + Karen Pryor both come to mind), that are a decent starting off point, but don't give you all of the hands-on experience i would recommend. doing your research about the difference between LIMA training, Force Free, balanced, and all the other philosophies is a great first step. then, researching your local trainers and their methods until you find some that match your own or are similar. then, asking if any of them are taking internships. this is the #1 most reliable way to begin to gain dog training experience. after an internship, becoming an assistant trainer is very attainable and that really does a lot for your learning.
working to get your CPDT-KA is a GREAT way to make sure you know your stuff and are providing your clients up to date, honest, quality training! i am working towards this one myself!
sorry this is the longest post of all time, but i hope this is a good jumping off point for you and your sister to do some research!!
much love, and best of luck!

A with any transformative journey, the road to a well-behaved companion begins with a solid foundation. That's why I've compiled a list of ten essential tips to keep in mind before you start training your dog. These guidelines will not only help you get the most out of your training sessions, but also lay the groundwork for a deep and meaningful bond between you and your pup.
But it doesn't end there. As a bonus, I've included some additional information at the end of the article to take your training to the next level. By following these tips, you'll unlock the full potential of your canine companion and set yourself on the path to a happy and fulfilling relationship. So what are you waiting for? It's time to start In-Person Dog Training your dog like a pro!
Tumblr media
One: As we embark on this journey with our dogs, it is imperative to set goals and take the time to consider the specific tasks and behaviors we hope to see from our pups in order to accomplish those goals. Let's say for instance, your goal is to have a well-behaved dog in all situations. It may seem like a daunting task, but with a plan in place, it is definitely achievable.
When crafting your plan, you want to identify the tasks and commands that your dog must master to meet your desired outcomes. For example, if you can communicate these commands with your dog at any time: 'Come', 'Sit', 'Down', 'Heel', 'Place', 'Off', 'Drop it', 'Leave it', 'Quiet', and 'Stay', with reliability, you’ll have a well-trained dog. By focusing on these key tasks, you can achieve the level of obedience you desire and create the well-trained dog of your dreams.
Also, remember, effective dog training starts with outlining your goals and tasks in writing, and following a detailed plan. This approach will increase your chances of success. It's all about the little details, the discipline and the consistent work that gets you the end goal. Just like in life, the most successful people are the ones who set clear objectives, and execute them with precision and perseverance. So take your time, be patient and stay the course, the results will be worth it.
Two: When it comes to training your canine companion, consistency reigns supreme. A well-structured daily routine can make all the difference in your dog's overall well-being and happiness. They thrive on predictability and knowing what to expect in terms of responsibilities, meal times, Dog Day Training Program, and playtime. This is why having a written schedule that is planned out and shared with everyone in the household is essential. Not only will this routine help your dog feel more secure and balanced, but it will also make it easier for you to plan and stick to a training schedule that works for both you and your dog. Remember, a well-structured routine leads to greater success and a more well-adjusted dog.
Three: When it comes to equipping yourself for training, there are a few key items you'll want to have on hand. A 4-foot leash, martingale collar, treats, a climb bed, tripod, camera or phone, and a training pouch or vest are all essential. You may think it's odd to record your training sessions, but trust me, reviewing footage will help you pinpoint areas for improvement. Additionally, a long line, harness, crate, and toys are all important tools that will aid in your training journey. And if you're so inclined, a clicker can also be a valuable asset. Having all of these things at the ready will set you up for success from the start.
Tumblr media
Five: As a dog owner or trainer, it's important to understand the significance of mastering training techniques before working with your dog. While it may seem unnecessary to practice on your own, without your dog present, this step is vital for building muscle memory and truly understanding the training process.
Before beginning any new training with your dog, take some time to practice techniques such as markers, delivery, food handling, and luring. Start by learning the proper way to use markers, such as a clicker or a verbal cue, to clearly communicate with your dog. Next, focus on mastering the art of delivery, which is the way you deliver rewards to your dog for a job well done. This includes things like timing, consistency, and the type of reward you're using.
By taking the time to perfect these techniques on your own, you'll be able to more effectively communicate with and train your dog. Remember, if we want our dogs to excel in new skills, it's essential that we master them first! So, take the time to practice and perfect these techniques, and you'll be amazed at the results you and your dog will achieve.
Six: Prior to starting any training session, it is vital to ensure that both you and your canine companion are in the appropriate frame of mind. This includes being fully engaged and focused, free of any distractions or stress. Additionally, your dog should be at ease, relaxed, and eager for treats. If your dog is still adjusting to their environment or displaying signs of caution or fear, it's best to hold off on training until they are more comfortable. Keep in mind that training should be a fun and positive experience for both of you. Therefore, take a moment to check in and ensure that you and your pup are in the right mindset before proceeding. Starting training when your dog is not fully adjusted and comfortable can lead to negative associations and make the training process more challenging and less enjoyable for both of you. It's better to wait and begin with a positive attitude than to rush and risk potential failure.
Seven: Training your dog effectively requires a deep understanding of their motivation. Everything your pet does is driven by a desire to obtain something they want, avoid something they don't want, or engage in an activity that is inherently enjoyable. By identifying and utilizing these motivators, you can guide your dog towards the behaviors you desire.
One effective training method is to use markers to communicate with your dog which behaviors are desirable. By rewarding your dog for natural, desired behaviors throughout the day, you can encourage them to actively seek out actions that have previously earned them rewards. This approach creates a proactive, operant dog that understands the consequences of their actions and can be trained even when treats are not present.
It's important to remember that when you bring a dog into your home, they don't come with predetermined roles or responsibilities. It's up to us to shape their behavior and ensure it aligns with our preferences. By understanding our dog's motivations, we can use them to our advantage during training.
Eight: Managing your dog's diet is a crucial aspect of successful training. By maintaining proper portion control and avoiding overfeeding, you can set your dog up for success. One effective way to do this is by pre-planning and preparing your dog's meals and treats for the day and setting it off to the side. This is particularly beneficial in households with multiple family members, as it helps to prevent overfeeding. By keeping all of the food in one designated location, you can easily keep track of how much your dog is consuming each day. This allows you to make adjustments to the portion size as needed, ensuring that your dog is receiving the appropriate amount of food for their size and activity level. Additionally, by having all of the food in one spot, you eliminate any confusion or second guessing about whether or not your dog has had enough to eat for the day. This helps you to maintain control over your dog's diet and supports their overall well-being.
Nine: The key to successful training is consistency. To maintain consistency in your commands, it's important to use a combination of formal and informal commands. Formal commands are those that always require action - for example, if you're still working on a specific behavior and need to give a physical cue, you should always follow through with that cue and reward the behavior when your dog performs it correctly. Informal commands, on the other hand, are more relaxed and don't require follow-through. For example, if you're using the "Come" command, you might use a formal command like "Come" in a specific situation where you need your dog to respond promptly, and the informal version like "Come here boy, let's go" in a casual situation. By using a balance of formal and informal commands, you'll keep your training consistent and prevent any confusion or damage to important commands due to a lack of follow-through.
Ten: Another thing to bear in mind when training your dog is the importance of setting boundaries for different activities and the locations in which they should take place. Our dogs have a natural tendency to associate certain activities with specific locations, and it is up to us to decide how we want them to behave in different surroundings. For example, if you want your dog to be relaxed and calm in the living room, it's crucial to avoid allowing playtime in that area. By creating these boundaries, you'll be helping your dog understand the expected conduct and behavior in each environment. This will make it easier for them to understand when and where certain activities are appropriate and when they are not. This will help you to have a well-behaved, calm and happy dog in any environment.
Bonus: As a dog owner, there are certain principles to abide by in order to establish a positive relationship with your furry companion. One crucial rule is to teach specific behaviors in controlled environments. For instance, if you want your dog to remain calm when someone rings the doorbell, it's essential to Dog Stay and Train them in a safe and controlled setting.
Another essential principle is to avoid taking things away from your dog, as it can lead to trust and resource guarding issues. Instead, teach your dog an "out" or "drop it" command using value transfer, which means trading something of high value for the item in question. This way, your dog won't be afraid of losing their things, and you'll be able to avoid any resource guarding problems.
It's also important to refrain from yelling at your dog, as it can harm the trust and relationship between you and your dog, and can lead to fear issues.
It's also important to avoid scaring your dog, as it can have long-lasting negative effects, particularly during the puppy stages. Instead of creating a submissive dog, we want to cultivate confidence by showing them that they are a valued member of the team, and that their well-being is always top priority.
Lastly, play as much as possible with your dog. Play is one of the best ways to build and develop a strong bond with your dog. It also has the potential to transfer over as a reward during obedience training. Play is so powerful that it should be the activity you do most with your dog.
By following these guidelines, you will be well on your way to achieving a happy, well-trained dog.
