I think about the foreshadowing in the httyd books a lot.......cressida cowell planted tiny hints throughout every single book that are entirely imperceptible until the end of the entire series and when it all ties together you genuinely feel like the secrets of the universe have become clear to you lol. Every tiny, seemingly trivial detail is woven into this giant tapestry and you don’t even realize it until the end when suddenly it hits you like a brick wall. And that’s impressive in itself, but what I can’t wrap my mind around is that she did all this over a 12 year period. She was foreshadowing in book 1 (2003) events that wouldn’t happen until book 12 (2015). She was foreshadowing details that didn’t even exist yet, details for books that wouldn’t be written for years. It just baffles me. There are so many seemingly throwaway lines in book 1 that are echoed or otherwise significant way later in the series and it just baffles me because how could she know how significant those tiny details would be??? Whether she had the superhuman insight to plan out the entire series, down to the very last intricacy, in advance, or she’s just an absurdly talented visionary (which we all know she is anyway), this woman is a genius and quite possibly not entirely mortal lol.
