We Have a Child, Now What?

The first chapter of my Tiny Tom fic is finally here! I’ve been rotating this since the first episode with him and it is time to share it with all of you. I hope you enjoy!

Relationships: Jimmy/Joel (more will be added later)

Tags/CW: Implied sexual content, giving a child up for adoption (tags will be updated as story develops)

Summary: Joel convinces Jimmy to make a baby with him for his secret santa, but now that the child is here Jimmy wants to keep him. If only it was easier to compromise on custody discussions with his (not-so) unrequited crush and the hermits while coming to terms with his past and his culture. All Jimmy really wants to do is raise his new son and kiss a pretty man.

Chapter 1: Meeting Tiny Tom

Jimmy startles awake to someone pounding at his front door. A glance out the window tells him it is only just after dawn, sunlight not yet making a full appearance over the nearby mountains. He groans and rubs the sleep from his eyes. Maybe, he thinks, if he stays quiet they will assume he is still asleep and come back later.

Much to his dismay, the visitor continues to rattle the door with their loud knocking. Fine. They win this time.

“I’m coming,” he shouts towards the door, his voice still raspy from sleep. Thankfully they hear him and the noise stops. He moves to roll out of bed and winces when standing causes a tight pressure to grow behind his eyes. It fades into the background after a moment, but not before he identifies it as dehydration. Right, yesterday. He really didn’t want to think about yesterday.

After grabbing the nearest set of clothes and throwing them on, he begrudgingly climbs down the ladder. He pauses to slide on his boots before opening the door.

Joel. Of course it’s Joel. He’s leaning casually against one of the columns of the porch with his arms crossed. Jimmy frowns at a light bruise above Joel’s right collarbone as memories of the previous day come flooding forward.

The excitement Jimmy had felt when Joel asked if he would try to make a baby with him. Their laughter as they chanted and ran around the lore tree. The way his heart raced as Joel grabbed his hand and led him towards the Stratos inspired house. The feeling of Joel’s lips and warm skin against his own.

The crushing disappointment he felt afterwards when Joel said this was a no strings attached situation. How Jimmy sobbed himself to sleep feeling used and now knowing his feelings weren’t mutual. That if they had succeeded, he wouldn’t even be able to keep his own kid.

He’s brought back to the present by Joel clearing his throat and lifting an eyebrow. Jimmy’s yellow wings puff up behind him defensively. “What do you want?” he demands, glaring at Joel.

Joel doesn’t seem affected by the outburst, forever hiding behind a facade of nonchalance. He simply moves to stand upright and shrugs. “I just came over to tell you that it worked and we have a kid now.”

Jimmy’s jaw drops in shock and a glimmer of bittersweet hope sparks in his chest. “We do? It worked?”

Rolling his eyes Joel retorts, “That’s what I said, yes. I found him under the lore tree this morning when I went to add some decorations.”

“He?” Jimmy asks. Joel nods in response before Jimmy continues more enthusiastically, “Where is he now? I want to see him!”

“He’s still by the tree. I left–”

“You left a child unattended?” Jimmy interrupts loudly, not giving Joel time to respond before pushing past him and flapping his wings to catch the cold morning air. Within seconds he lands heavily near the tree, looking around frantically until he spots the child sitting on a blanket in a small fenced-in area under the shade of the tree.

He forces his wings to relax as he looks around and notes the lack of danger as well as the fact that the kid is happily playing with some small blocks of wood. Joel lands beside him and huffs in irritation. “I was trying to tell you I left him in a safe place with some toys. I’m not an idiot Jimmy, I know how to take care of children.”

Jimmy looks towards Joel in surprise before remembering Hermes. Of course Joel would know not to leave a child in an unsafe location. He feels a pang of jealousy in his chest, thinking about how much Joel cares about Sausage and their kid, decidedly pushing down the flicker of desire for Joel to look at him the same way. That wasn’t helpful right now.

No, Joel had made his views on their relationship very clear. Jimmy shakes his head to banish those thoughts before approaching the child. His child.

The young boy looks up at him curiously as he approaches, purple eyes gleaming as they spot his bright feathers. Eyes that exactly match the color of his own.

“Hello my sweet boy,” Jimmy coos softly as he sits in front of his son. “You like my feathers don’t you?” The child makes grabby hands towards his wings and Jimmy laughs lightly. “Here let me help you.” He reaches down and picks him up, sitting the boy in his lap and pulling his wing closer. He plucks a loose feather and hands it to the child, who clumsily grabs it with his small fingers.

While he is studying the feather, Jimmy takes the time to truly look at his child for the first time. He has dark, nearly void-black skin that is peppered with small light gray freckles, particularly on his arms and across his nose. His hair is a vibrant silver and sits in tight curls against his head. He is wearing a purple onesie and soft gray socks. Judging by how the child sits in his lap, wobbling slightly but able to hold himself up, Jimmy figures he must be just under a year old.

Jimmy can feel his love for the boy blooming in his chest. A strong desire to protect and nurture swiftly overwhelms him. He pulls his wings around himself and the child in his lap. Taking a shaky breath, he sees bright purple eyes look up at him.

The small boy babbles at him and Jimmy is sure he has never smiled this fondly at anything or anyone. This child is already his whole world.

His wings puff defensively when someone nearby clears their throat. Poking his head out from the feathery cocoon, he sees Joel staring at him with an eyebrow raised.

Flustered by the interruption and embarrassed about forgetting Joel’s presence, Jimmy cradles the child against his chest and stands. “He’s perfect.”

Joel barks out a laugh. “Yeah, perfect for my secret santa.” The statement feels like a punch to the stomach. Jimmy recoils, stumbling backwards a couple of steps, wings coming up to protectively surround the child in his arms.

“No,” Jimmy shakily replies. “I won’t let you give him away.”

Joel’s face contorts into mild concern. One hand halfway reaching towards Jimmy as if to stabilize or comfort him, before he decides against it, hand returning to his side. Joel’s expression shifts back to careful neutrality and he clears his throat before responding.

“I’ve already told you that I am putting him up for adoption. And I’m not going to tell you who's getting him, because I know you will just go steal the child back. But,” he pauses, looking between Jimmy and the boy in his arms, “I’ll let you name the child. If you want to.”

Jimmy huffs at this before looking down and adjusting the child in his arms. The boy is still staring at his wings and Jimmy moves to run his hand through his silver curls. Jimmy takes this moment to take stock of the situation. He is, of course, still furious with Joel for continuing to insist that he was giving the boy away. But at the same time, he is not going to pass up the opportunity to name his own son.

But how could a name capture such a perfect child? This decision would follow the boy for the rest of his life, granted he decided to keep the name. The pressure of the decision seems to force any name he had ever known from his mind.

Looking back up to Joel and shuffling his feet awkwardly, Jimmy admits, “I, uh, can’t think of any names.”

Joel rolls his eyes. “Think of any name.” Jimmy looks back down towards brilliant purple eyes. Of course Joel wouldn’t be taking this seriously. He thinks for a moment before the perfect idea strikes him. This is his son after all.

Jimmy glances up trying his best to contain his grin. “Any name?” Joel nods, eyeing him suspiciously. “How about Jimmy Jr.?”

“Ji- ugh, no it can’t be Jimmy Jr.” Joel exclaims throwing his hands up in frustration. “Because obviously they are going to think it’s from you. It’s a secret santa.”

Well there goes that idea, he thinks. Okay any name, he can do this. Maybe a name that could compliment his own? “Alright, um, Tiny Tom.”

With a clap Joel declares, “Tiny tom it is! There we go. Tom, our child.” Joel reaches out to take Tom, but Jimmy avoids his hands by taking a step back.

“Can I at least keep him around for a day or two?” Jimmy asks desperately. Maybe he can buy some time to figure out how to make sure Tiny Tom stays with him.

“No, I need to take him to my secret santa.” Joel states, keeping his arms extended towards them.

A tightness makes itself known in Jimmy’s chest and tears threaten to spill. His voice wavers as he pleads, “Then let me at least say goodbye.”

Joel lowers his arms and takes a single step back. “Fine, but make it quick. The secret santa presents are due soon.”

Jimmy brings his wings around himself and Tom, blocking Joel from view. He cradles Tom tightly in his arms and kisses his forehead. A little hand presses against his face as a tear falls.

“I’m coming back for you,” he whispers. “Joel might be taking you for now, but I will find a way to get you back. I love you, my beautiful Tiny Tom.”

He takes a shaky breath and tries to blink away some of the tears. Another breath, and he pulls back his wings and straightens his shoulders. Something flickers across Joel’s face when they make eye contact, but it is quickly replaced by another too-neutral expression.

Stiffly, he steps forward and passes Tom to Joel. He watches as Joel adjusts Tom in his arms and leans down to take a pair of small headphones out of a nearby shulker. After placing the headphones over Tom’s ears he adjusts his elytra straps and pulls out a rocket.

With a nod and a simple goodbye, Joel takes off and quickly disappears over the mountains.

LIMITED LIFE EPISODE 1: The Basics

Where I put all the info we know about the mechanics, team-ups, base locations, etc into one location

(below cut is spoilers to LIMITED LIFE, which is series 4 of the life series. Pls don’t get mad if you read it and don’t want spoilers)

I. Participants

No ren :( I'm sad :(

Skizz is back :D

Nothing really big about this part, just that all of the soul pairs except Box Boys are here for potential refs and angst (there has already been a lot)

NOTE: I have only fully watched 6 out of the 14 possible POVs, so info regarding people I haven't watched might be limited to what the comments tell me when I make a mistake This info comes from watching these POVs and snippets of the other ones.

POVs I watched (in this order): Joel, Tango, Jimmy, Etho, Skizz, Cleo

POVs I skimmed (in this order): Martyn, Impulse, Scar

^ I will be consistently watching these POVs + Bdubs every week, however I'll probably watch others when I'm bored or if something big happens lol.

II. Teams/Alliances (from what I can gather from Episode 1)

EDIT: I originally said that Martyn and Scott were individual teams when that was wrong, it looks like they are teamed together and are called the Coral Kids. This change has been made below

Team T.I.E.S: Tango, Impulse, Etho, Skizz

Bad Boys: Grian, Jimmy, Joel

Coral Kids LBGSeas BadBouies : Martyn and Scott

Nosy Neighbors: Pearl and BigB ( + Froggy the Jellie cat)

Cwackers Cockers Clockers: Cleo, Scar, Bdubs

NOTE: Not all of these are NOW official names WAHOO

It seems like everyone is teaming with pretty much their usual crowd (ie, Jimmy/Joel/Grian , Cleo/Bdubs , Skizz/Imp/Tango/Etho) except for the notable exception of BigB and Pearl, which I don't think have teamed up together in a series before?

I could totally see Etho and Martyn teaming up after this episode, especially later in the season when TIES eventually break up.

III. Base Locations (based off of limited info from episode 1)

Team T.I.E.S seems to be basing on the edge of the main land mass underground. I can't tell if they have cows after Martyn's TNT but they have wheat and chickens, as well as sugarcane. NOTE: Etho seems to be basing close to but not WITH Tango, Impulse, and Skizz. Idk what this means but it's interesting to see what happens

Scott and Martyn are basing right next to TIES on a floating island in the ocean. I didn't watch their episodes but from Etho's it looks like they have both sugarcane and a zombie villager in a boat.

Bad Boys are basing .... *checks notes*.... on top of the woodland mansion .... made of wood .... wait? so Jimmy "our Ranch is burning down!" Solidarity and Joel "If the ship burns everything burns!" Smallishbeans are going to base on the top of the most flammable structure known to Minecraft? Okay cool.... this won't go horribly wro- oh and Cleo’s already burned the whole thing down great that lasted about 2 seconds

Cockers Clockers are based literally just at spawn. There entire thing is going to be building a stadium so they can laugh at people when they die.... I hate them (/lie)

Pearl and BigB are based between spawn and the woodland mansion on the edge of the stone cliff. I hope they slay and thrive there

IV. Mechanics

Okay so, there seems to be a lot more rules to this one than the other ones, so here's what I've gathered.

Everyone has a timer that counts down from 24 hours, this timer started when the series started

When the clock reaches 0 for the player, they are eliminated

There seems to be 2 ways to lose time: Being killed or dying. If you are killed by the boogeyman, it subtracts two hours from your time. If you are killed by natural gameplay (ie creeper, fall damage, etc.) you only lose 1 hour of time. (NOTE: it's not said how many hours are taken away if you're killed from non-boogeyman PVP, but I'm assuming it will still be 2 hours)

There is only 1 way to ADD time to your clock: kill players. When you are the boogeyman, you can kill whoever you want, and when you do you are given 30 minutes to your timer. EDIT: thanks to a comment I now have this info: If you are the boogeyman and you fail to kill a player within the 3 hours (that's how long they record for), you are dropped down to the next color life. For example, if you are a green name boogeyman and fail to kill, your time will go down to 16 hours and you will become yellow. This is the same for the yellow to red drop. (NOTE: Some ccs have said in their videos that it's + 1 hour, however Grian's intro says + 30 minutes which is what i'm going off of. Not sure if the + 30 minutes applies to non-boogeyman PVP kills, however I suspect it does)

Everyone starts as a green name, and the players turns yellow when they have less than 16 hours left on their timer. A player turns red when they have less than 8 hour on the clock

Most of the same rules apply to PVP as before: greens cannot kill anyone, yellow names can now kill green names even if they aren't provoked , and red names can kill everyone. Boogeyman kills can happen to anyone regardless of color. I suspect these rules will not be strictly followed like they have been for every season but yaknow we'll see.

V. Episode 1 Specifically

This series seems actually super cool! Here's some of the thoughts as a writer of traffic series fics and just a general enjoyer of episode 1. I like writing my opinions and these were written in real time while I was watching each POV.

🚧 NOTE: Some (like 4) of these points talk about shipping in fics.. I'll label the bullets with the caution tape emoji but I'd just recommend skipping this entire section if you get really pissed or triggered about it. Reminder that I do not ship real people, just the characters.

the Bad Boys are literally just that one (1) 100 hours hardcore episode.

Joel and Jimmy being idiots and dying is so funny, what a couple of idiots (I love them)

🚧 Boat Boys and Ranchers broke up to be with each others soulmates

it didn’t take even 20 minutes for Team Rancher and Boat Boys to break up. A real love loses moment.

I'm convinced Tango decides his friend groups based only on if there names make good acronyms. Like for sure he didn't invite Martyn to join TIES because it would have ruined the name.

Passive boogeyman Scott has left the chat. Man’s a beast.

^ Bdubs boogey first episode once again, this man can't escape the betrayer narrative

The mechanic has so much angst potential. I’m thinking a curse that slowly eats away at your body until you die. As the timer counts down, people will become more desperate to survive and that’s where alliances will fall. This season has probably the best potential for angst out of all of them, especially when people started running out of time.

just imagine with me: Tango and Etho are in a cave, Tango realizes he only has a minute left on his clock while Etho has maybe an hour and a half. Tango can't kill Etho cause it will just kill his friend immediately, so they both have to just... sit there while Tango's timer ticks by and he eventually gets eliminated by the mechanics of the game. HOW HORRIFYING IS THAT PEOPLE !!!!! I love it >:)

BEST? nah it’s team TIES now (rip Bdubs I guess)

Jimmy might escape the narrative just because of Skizz dying so much lol

I actually hate Grian for this. The fic that could be written about it is…. so much

okay but if Clockers dynamic this season is gonna be single mom with two annoying ass twins i’m all for it. I love them for this

🚧 ETHO TURNING DOWN THE ROLL OF DAD FOR BDUBS AND SCAR THANK GOD !!!! While I would love a Clethubs teamup, a nice straight happy family is not the way I wanted it to be done

Poor Skizz man. Dude was so excited to be back just to be killed twice by boogey and then die again by creeper death. Maybe HE can't escape the narrative

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of this series, and my opinion with probably change as more episodes come out, but I feel like it will be much easier to predict who will win this season than others because of the timer. like there is already a very strong likelihood that skizz will die first, just because if every kill only gives you 30 minutes, he would have to kill 10 people to even get back to normal, where as Bdubs and Scott have already killed 1 person and hasn’t died once, which means they are ahead. Basically, I think we’ll be able to see who will die first/not win very easily, which maybe will take away some of the suspense? I hope not, but that’s my thought rn.

🚧 we were SO CLOSE to a Martyn and Etho team up…. imagine the sus activity that could have happened here. I was so prepared to start writing Martho fics

SKIZZ'S COMPLIMENT TO ETHO WAS LITERALLY SO SWEET? Like it was 100% true and props to Etho for taking it like a champ. Etho really is the most likable guy in the Minecraft space, and he shines like a diamond in these kinds of thing with his friends. I'm glad Skizz took the time to recognize it and say it to his face. He deserves all the love.

🚧 if Bdubs is (maybe canonically) related to both his team members, there is little opportunities for sus mlm activity from him, and he will have to find bitches elsewhere, which might be difficult

TIES are four grown ass men and have three of the BEST redstoners minecraft has to offer and they still can't keep cows alive for more than like 5 minutes. What a bunch of losers

Okay now that I’m thinking about it, Etho might not be completely committed to TIES as it seems. I mean why would he make a base close BUT completely seperate from them? I sense some uh….. drama in the future mayhaps

I love Martyn's editing style it's great

VI. My Bingo Card (🚧)

Uh... so I did a bingo card before the series started and it's already got some good ticks off so here it is after episode 1

Wow sure glad I didn't put any Ren stuff in here (Fr I was originally gonna put a "Ren Win" space on here but thank god I didn't)

VII. Conclusion

Um.... this was a really long post.... I'm sorry? I just wanted to make it because I had all this info in my head and it was spinning around in there and it needed to get it out. And maybe someone will find the first part useful! Who knows.

In real conclusion, Etho deserves the win. I don't care what you think should happen, this is what the universe wants. Yes, this is coming from an Ethogirl, and yes, I know I'm also the self proclaimed #1 smallishbeans enjoyer, but i just feel like Etho should be this seasons champ.

Even if I'm looking at it from a completely objective POV, Etho IS one of the top candidates for this specific mechanic/season. He barely dies in these games and he's generally good at boogeykills/PVP so I could see him losing very little time in terms of deaths but gaining a lot with kills. Also, no one really dares to kill him with the boogey (if we can take anything away from last life) so that too is a bonus.

So Seeing As LimitedLife (Season 4 Of The Traffic Life Series) Ended A Few Weeks Ago, I'd Like To Throw In Some Of My Dream Team Ups For A Later Series (The Post Is A Teeny Bit Long So That's Why There's A ReadMore). & Obviously, Spoilers For Any & All Of The Current Life Series

Seeing Some Of The Newer Hermitcraft Episodes Has Reminded Me How Much Of A Menace Grian Can Be Even When There's People Trying To Keep Him In Check. So Why Not Team Him With Mom (Cleo) & Parent-ish Chaos (Impulse). Bonus, Their Group Name Can Be Team CGI.

Scott & Joel

I Know I Know- It's Tradition At This Point For Joel To Try And Kill Scott. However- . . . Idk I Just Think It'd Be Interesting To See How Scott Deals With Joel's Feral Nature. Team Name Wise? I Figure The Name Would Have Something To Do With The Season, Like Boat Boys & Coral Kids / Mean Gills Were.

Pearl, BigB, & Jimmy

This One Is Mostly For The Potential Team Name Of PB&J, But I Also Just Think The Dynamic Would Be Funny (We Got A Negative Relation Approach w Judge Judy & Executioner, I'm Intrested To See How A Positive Relation Would Work). And Bonus, As States Before, They Could Be Called Team PB&J & They Could Live In A Giant Sandwich.

Grian & Etho

Need I Explain? We Got Some Alliance Crumbs With 'The Sword' But I Still Think It'd Be Fun To See These Two Fully Pair Up At The Start Of A New Season.

Scott, Skizz, & Scar

The S Trio! I Think This Team Would Be Funny w All Their Different Personalities. Scar Would Be Attempting Both Capitalism & Communism At The Same Time (Whichever Benefits Him More In The Moment), Skizz Would Still Be His Hugging AND Huggable Self, & Scott Would Be Actively Trying To Get Shipped With Them The Resident Flamboyant Gay. An Absolutely Entertaining Team!

Tango & Joel

& Finally... On One Side, We Have A Man Known For His Rage Moments At Significant Aggravation. On The Other Side, A Man Known For His Feral Nature & Will To Start Axe Crit-ing Anyone & Anything Within 7 Blocks Of Him When He Goes Red (And Even Before That). I'm Intrested To See If They'd Somehow Turn On Eachother Or If They Could Channel Their Anger/Feral-ness In Sync With Eachother At Other's.

Rating the fake last names given to MCYT YouTubers in fanfics

(Completely subjectively and with no real system)

1. One word of their username, no changes-6/10

(ie. Jimmy Solidarity, Joel Beans, Pearl Moon)

Some are better than others, Joel Beans always gets a laugh out of me. Probably the most common and safest. Still solid, and I hardly even think about it anymore when I see it.

2. A part of their username that isn’t a word- 5/10

(ie. Scott Smajor, Lizzie D(e)Shadow, just Gemini Tay or Tango Tek also technically fits here)

This is less common that’s probably because it’s less aesthetic and a tad sillier. I don’t mind it, but it’s a little jarring to read ngl.

3. A play on their username- 7/10

(ie. Impulse EssVee, Jimmy Soliture, Skizz Mann)

It’s also a little jarring to read at first, but I honestly admire the creativity. The first two are real from a Jigsaw AU I read, and after saying “EssVee?” Out loud to myself, I got used to it and now I can appreciate coming up with actual last names. I appreciate this one, especially after trying so hard to come up with a fake example so it didn’t feel like I was singling that person out.

4. A word associated with them (usually from a ship)- 6/10

(Ie. Scott Flower, Tango Rancher, Grian Sun)

It really varies, honestly. Sometimes I’m really not a fan, but sometimes I honestly don’t mind or even think it’s sort of cute. I’m not sure where the line is for me, or if it just depends on my mood. But this one is pretty average once you account all my feelings together. Right now I’m feeling it though, so I added a point.

5. A random last name- 5/10

(ie. Mumbo Gibson, Cleo Jones, Etho Green)

Basic. Doesn’t bother me at all, but it’s not particularly fun. I’m pretty sure I am just accustomed to the last names listed above and so I get surprised when something like that isn’t incorporated.

While not always possible, some usernames being way harder than others to make real, this is probably my favorite because it combines the real names for a touch of denial that you’re reading Minecraft fanfic with the familiarity of their username thrown in. Only got points off because it isn’t possible for everyone.

7. Minecraft- Idk actually

(ie. Literally just Firstname Minecraft)

I’ve only seen this once and it threw me for a loop. It was literally written as “Jimmy Minecraft” what do I even say to that. It’s perfect. I didn’t even read the fic it was in the description and I was so surprised I just stopped and stared. “Gaming” also fits in to this category btw. Just like… wow. Last name Minecraft.

Ok so ive been thinking (sorry for the late reply btw) it was a hard one and i still cant make 1 compatible au . Just pieces

1st , Yes grian is THE loid of life series , he just has that energy.

I get the most yor vibes from pearl.

And the most frankie (is that how you write his name ?? I forgor) vibes from jimmy.

But the one character i coulndt find a good vibe fit for was fiona bc we need some1 who acts serious but is goofy and a hopeless romantic and not many ppl act serious on the life series

Only i could find were grian but he doesnt act that lovey except for that secret soulmates thing in double life but idk what bigb is like that much but from what i know he could be loid and then grian fiona and idk pearl could be yor ig bit of a strech but goes then jimmy franky is ... fine, could be joel too, idk wich 1 goes better

But then i also thought a desert dou would be interesting as the spyes cus grian(fiona) being at scars(loid) service is kinda their vibe , and ig in 3rdlife scar acted kida serious so it could go .

Ive also been thinking about boat boys (when am i not ♡) and joel being ethos number 1 fangirl is kinda fitting of fiona, but then idk who would go well with yor, i know etho has a main ship with ... bdubs i think so that could work .

I end up with jimmy being franky cus i need some1 whos goofy but can be serious sometimes but is mainly just pathetic.

So yeh , not something complete but these r my thoughts .

Found Family AU character facts/background (part 7)

well, folks, we've made it to the last one of these posts - minus the upcoming master post. these just seem to get longer and longer, or maybe it's just because the past two have been about siblings? idk, all I know is that I'm a bit tired of writing these atm.

this last one should - SHOULD be shorter, but we'll see. this one will feature our last two characters - Mr. there's-no-such-thing-as-a-demon Joel Smallishbeans and good ol' Copper Dad Pixlriffs.

*did you know that Mesoglea is a word? I didn't until I kept trying to type "Mezalea" and my computer kept wanting to change it. Mesoglea is a gelatinous substance between the endoderm and ectoderm of sponges or cnidarians, or something. there's your word of the day and it's all thanks to the red squiggly line that appears every time I type "Mezalea"

*edit: guess what? y'all get two of these in one day because I felt like writing this last one! [technically, it's already Saturday but to me, the next day doesn't start until the sun comes up so yeah...two in one day! whoo!] the master post will be tomorrow sometime but idk when.

Joel

Joel is the only child to the Mezalean King and Queen, and was less born to them and more born from the Mother Tree - they couldn't have children so they begged the Mother Tree for an heir, She granted them a child who they raised as their own.

he was often alone growing up, never really played with the other children, but he wasn't lonely - so he and others would say - because he had his terracotta clones. he built many of them with his own two hands and the Mother Tree gave them life. he was raised as a prince and often went to the Gathering of the Empires with his father.

he got on well enough with the other children but kept mostly to himself - that is until he met the princess of the Ocean Empire. he noticed the other noble children seemed afraid of her so he took it upon himself to befriend her - plus, she was so different from the humans/clones around him, she was interesting with her pink hair and pearlescent skin and unnaturally blue eyes.

they would meet at the Gathering and spend the whole time together talking about their kingdoms and their hobbies - Joel was really into building and playing pranks on people, Lizzie was into raising axolotls and has a brother who she looks after. the short meetings weren't enough and Joel talked to his parents about visits with the Ocean Empire - it only makes sense since the two empires boarder each other. unknown at that moment, the Oceanic rulers proposed the same thing to the Mezalean rulers.

visits began between the two kingdoms and Joel found himself in love quickly enough - he loved Lizzie, he loved her little brother, he loved the Ocean Empire itself. but he kept his feelings to himself for fear of rejection, that is until he was about 16 when Lizzie came to him with talk of marriage - their parents had been discussing it but didn't want to force their children into it. he and Lizzie talked it over then went to their parents together and promised a future wedding, he also promised that Jimmy could be his best man.

life was peaceful, there were plenty of long visits between kingdoms, him and Jimmy often got into trouble - then the King of the Ocean Empire was killed. Joel tried to be there for her but found travel between kingdoms difficult due to the ongoing storms surrounding the Ocean Empire, he still managed to write Lizzie and once was able to visit - though getting back was just as difficult as getting in.

then several months later the storms stopped and Lizzie wrote to him about her taking the throne - she had said the Queen returned to the sea, though, he didn't really understand what that meant. he returned to the Ocean Empire and was there for Lizzie's coronation. he started visiting regularly for a time and each visit seemed to last longer than the one before it - he was there so often that Jimmy suggested he just move in. he did, with both his parents' and Lizzie's permission.

two years after that, he asked Lizzie to marry him and she said yes. they had two ceremonies, a proper land-dweller one in Mezalea, and another smaller Oceanic ceremony. being King now to the Ocean Empire meant he was basically a trophy husband but he didn't mind, he was happy as long as he was at Lizzie's side. if there was a Gathering, he or Jimmy would go with her, though usually Jimmy stayed home to watch over the kingdom - but he made sure to bring him plenty of stories and food from the Gathering.

Joel received word from his parents that an illness had struck Mezalea and the King and Queen had caught it. he returned home immediately to help where he could, Lizzie often sent aid to him, as did the kingdom's ally Pixandria - he had hardly ever spoken to the Copper King but he was glad for the aid. his parents unfortunately didn't survive and he lost a good number of civilians to the illness. but it was cured, with the help of the Mother Tree and magic from the Crystal Cliffs, and he became King of Mezalea.

with the illness cured, visits started up again between Mezalea and the Ocean Empire, though there was a lot more time spent apart than together but he and Lizzie made it work. Jimmy sent messages and gifts between the couple, often getting some for himself, until of course Jimmy became of age and wanted to travel the world.

Joel and Lizzie saw Jimmy off - it never ceased to amaze him how his two best friends could turn into giant sea creatures that could wipe out a fleet of ships. they managed visits on their own and sometimes he got letters from Jimmy. the letters stopped for a time and Lizzie grew worried, worried enough that storms nearly threatened the kingdom - but then Jimmy finally wrote them again and things were okay, he was in a swamp settlement and the people were taking care of him.

he and Lizzie went out right away to see him and found him at home in the swamp amongst a bunch of fish-human hybrids. he watched as Lizzie lectured her brother then babied him, then helped set Jimmy up as the ruler of the swamp settlement - the Cod Empire. they left Jimmy sometime later but saw him again at the next Gathering.

Jimmy got on well enough with the other rulers, despite the cod head he wore, though Joel noticed some rulers picking on him. he helped Jimmy from time to time, just so his brother wouldn't be alone, but didn't worry too much since Lizzie wasn't worrying - she was extremely protective of Jimmy but if she wasn't stepping in, then there was no need to worry.

Joel had met many of the rulers when he was a child so he knew pretty much everyone there. the only ones he hadn't met before was Count fWhip of the Grimlands, Wizard Gem of the Crystal Cliffs, and King Joey of the Lost Empire. Gem was all right for a mage, he ended up becoming frenemies with fWhip due to the teasing of Jimmy, and Joey was just weird so he didn't really talk to him unless need be. he got to know Pix a bit more when Pix decided to ally himself with Lizzie and Jimmy, and he started calling the man "Copper Dad" since his main trade was copper.

Pixl

Pixl was found by a pair of miners in a cave beneath the sands and was taken back to a large desert village, nobody really knew where he had come from, only that he was gifted with visions of death - of those around him and of rulers of the kingdoms outside of the desert. the villagers thought him odd and a bad omen, at first anyway, because he always knew who would die next and would light a candle for them when they passed.

they accepted him after a time, once they realized that he wasn't actually the cause - he would preach to them about Lady Death sometimes and how she would care for their loved ones. everyone in the village had a hand in raising him, as well as raising other children which was their way - it takes a village to raise a child.

Pixl learned how to farm and mine and care for animals, and he learned to build. his first build, guided by his visions, was the Vigil - it stood tall in the center of the village and was home to 12 different colored candles - only two of which were lit - one for Elfking Scott of Rivendell and one for Queen Katherine of the Flower Fields. the rest remained untouched. these flames never went out and the villagers often questioned him about them - he told them that there will be 12 mighty rulers that would change the world, for better or worse he didn't know.

over the years, he continued building up the village, he watched over the Vigil as Prophet of Death, and started working with copper and trading it for other goods. the people began to go to him for help and looked up to him as a leader, they named him the Copper King - a new candle was lit for himself when he was crowned, something he hadn't known would happen.

he continued leading his people and made a few alliances with other kingdoms - with Queen Katherine and the King of Mezalea. there wasn't a lot of contact between the kingdoms other than the Gathering, of which, he never failed to go to. over the years, he watched rulers age and die and watched their heirs take over. it took a long time for him to meet the children who would one day have their candles lit.

the next candle to be lit was for Pearl of Smallholding, though, he didn't know who she was at the time, he didn't even meet her until many years later. the next few happen fairly quickly - Queen Lizzie of the Ocean Empire, King Joel of Mezalea, and a couple years later Dwarf King Sausage of Mythland - these three he had watch grow up through the Gatherings. shortly after Mythland, Wizard Gem took over as the ruler of the Crystal Cliffs - he had known the previous Wizard and through them, knew of their protégé. a year after Gem was her twin brother, Count fWhip of the Grimlands - a new kingdom that managed to rise up from its own sort of desert. a few years later was King Joey of the Lost Empire and Codfather Jimmy of the Cod Empire - Joey's kingdom had once been named Maztec but had been in hiding for so long that it lost its name. due to his alliance with Joel, Pix decided it best to ally himself with Lizzie and Jimmy as well, somewhat through association but mostly because he liked them.

one candle remains unlit and no matter how much Pixl prays, the answers as to why remain a mystery. he still watches over the Vigil and keeps a count of each rulers' deaths - for some reason, the 11 rulers are allowed to revive themselves every time they die. he finds this odd as well, and a bit concerning.
