i'm pretty tired so idk if this will make sense, but as a lesbian fan of our flag means death, i have to say i don't like this trend of people demanding "lesbian pirates" in season 2 with no other context or reasoning aside from checking off another box on the representation checklist. saying "this story has gay men in it, so it needs to have lesbians too" just feels so cheap and disingenuous, as if the show's foremost purpose is to be a one-stop shop for all LGBTQ representation ever, or as if "lesbian representation" is a trope that can be tacked on as an afterthought, regardless of the story's greater context.

like, if there are lesbian pirates in S2, then great, but if OFMD continues primarily as a gay love story between two men and exploration of different ways to be a man, then that'll still be amazing and revolutionary, even if there are no lesbians.
