Tumblr and the No Good, Very Bad Idea
So. You might have heard the news that, as of July 12, Tumblr is testing out converting GIFs into looping MP4 videos to help pages load faster:
This is bad. Tumblr is the only mainstream site left where you can post GIFs and they’ll continue to be GIFs - well, sort of, as Tumblr previously tested and implemented turning GIF into GIFV with the same purpose, and it decreases the quality of the original GIF file. Turning them into MP4 videos is even worse.
GIFs are GIFs. They’re not videos. Creators spend hours making a GIF that will look good as a GIF, not as a video.
I hope I don’t need to explain to anyone why continuing to screw over creators is bad for a site like Tumblr, whose continued existence depends on creators not giving up on it, and why gif-making is important to fandom existence.
I for one will not continue to make any more gifsets if I know they’ll just be turned into MP4 files. It’s disappointing to spend my time making something and watch it become ugly once it’s uploaded - and that’s what is already happening without the MP4 conversion.
WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?
Don’t bother sending a support ticket! They will tell you to do what I’m about to tell you:
Send an ask or submission to @wip - the official “work in progress” blog of Tumblr where people can send in suggestions.
Their ask box is open every Monday from 6AM to 6PM EST.
The conversation isn’t over, guys, but it’s important to be a part of it. If you’re a creator or support creators (and you should), then set an alarm on Monday and go send them a message.

The Foundation (I’m Not Leaving You)
Had a vague idea. Churned this out in probably five minutes. Haven’t even read it through. Bone apple tit and all that jazz.
Steve thought of love like a house.
Not just any house; his house.
It looked great on the outside, and the inside was always ready, poised and perfect for guests, but really? It was lonely. It was fake. It was empty. It was everything Steve hated, everything he couldn’t get away from.
His breakup with Nancy only served to further prove his theory.
But then Eddie came along, and he couldn’t help but fall for him. He couldn’t help but love him, whole-heartedly.
And Christ, did that scare Steve. Because under all his throw pillows and open-concept living space, who was he? Why would Eddie stay when everything that makes up Steve could be gone with just the flick of a match?
It doesn’t make sense, really, for him to be standing at the site of where his house once was. It’s a pile of smoking rubble now—product of a faulty gas line—and Steve’s breaking.
Hard.
His knees crumble, and he’d fall to the pavement if Eddie didn’t catch him. “Hey,” Eddie says softly. “I know it’s a lot. I know it’s scary. But you can get through this, okay?” He whispers. “We can get through this. Cause I’m not leaving you.” He helps Steve back up, leads him towards the ash and ruin.
“Look here,” he murmurs, tracing the line of where the kitchen had been with his pointed finger. “The foundation’s still there, baby. All that’s gone is everything you hated in the first place. I know all this change at once is scary, but maybe you could see it as a good thing. The foundation’s still there, rock-solid. Now you can build it back up the way you want, the way you need, with everything that makes it you. How’s that sound?”
For the first time, Steve lets himself love fully; lets himself turn and bury his face in Eddie’s neck, lets his fingers clutch at Eddie’s waist as he tries for regulate his breathing. Lets Eddie see all of him. “Sounds pretty good,” he admits.

I've binge-watched (binge-listened???) the entirety of Sherlock & Co and I can practically feel the incoming brainrot please send help.
I've scrolled so far down the Sherlock & Co tag in Tumblr the only stuff I was getting was old fanfic recs from BBC Sherlock x Female reader which, nothing particularly wrong with it, whatever, but not my kind of jam.
I'm now going to read all the 22 available fics in ao3 (While listening to the Trolls soundtrack because I'm most likely not escaping that particular brain rot yet either) and I just REALLY wanna talk/read about it. Like, literally anything. I would absolutely love to hear other people's thoughts on the podcast pls and ty
ALSO, you know is a big brain rot when I have the need to draw/design the characters because I very very rarely draw humans/humanoids and istg I am so close to doing just that sobbing, crying, rolling around (but also giggling and kicking my feet)

This is a long-term habit in the US that's kind of been dying down but since I've seen examples of it on tik tok posts share to reddit plus a reddit post 3x this week - if you feel disconnected from your heritage as a white American because your great grandparents were Irish but you aren't, you aren't going to get far by trying to be Irish. We aren't Irish and we aren't German and we're not Italian and we're not Norwegian anymore. 20th century assimilation tactics and anti-immigration policies made sure of that. Otherwise we wouldn't be white 乁( •_• )ㄏ
I don't mean that in a cruel way and I could be wrong about the origin of this disconnect and the solution but reconnecting with your heritage starts with your *local* community or the community of wherever you were raised and looking at that compared to, say, the rest of your state, or the rest of the United States, or knowing more about the rest of the world till you can understand how not-default the US really is currently and historically. Genuinely, there's no point in having a complex about not being unique enough ethnicity wise and tik toks about hair braiding and winter solsircises and 23andMe results aren't gonna do shit whatsoever. Give it up and learn about Columbus city history or Appalachian culture and yeah immigration and track your family line if you want but you're not gonna be Scottish sitting your ass in Ohio waiting for a clan registry to pop up on ancestry.com anymore than some french bitch would be finding out about her wwi era 3x great-grandma's affair with an American GI is gonna make her from New Jersey. If we're lucky it will also prevent you from being fucking racist.

Brain auto-corrects are just so insane to me sometimes, like the other day I went to tell my dad that the car door was unlocked and all my brain could give me was "it's free!"
And just now as I was stirring a pot of grits I was thinking "oh they're about done!" But while that was the meaning behind the words, what I actually thought was "oh, they're about ready to be born!"
