Oh boy, now some things I disliked. Some strongly. Sab s2 was a speed run, yes, and sometimes the plot suffered for it. Mostly, I'm mad about the things that were taken away. Nina was done so dirty. She had the Nina personality and was iconic as usual, but I wish they had used more of her instead of her just...being there and talking about Matthias. She has an amazing personality and a lot of plot armor. Yet, they don't utilize that!
We were robbed of ninej as well. I was so excited for Ninej, and we got like two conversations. I want them to have a strong budding friendship, what happened to her flinching when Nina hugs her? Which could have helped with the lack of Inej trauma addressed this season as well. They were so fucking cute together I needed more. Don't get me started on poor Matthias getting like 10 minutes of screen time. I feel bad for him, but that was a mild complaint because what else is he supposed to do this season y'know?
I was mad at the speed run for Nikolina. They literally put all their iconic lines and scenes that were built up and formed of their relationship developing, and shoved them a into one conversation. They made Alina like him right from the start, and I just feel like in general they needed to flesh out Nikolai like a LOT. He was perfect, emanated Nikolai energy, he just needed more chances to prove that!
The erasure of Jesper's crush on Kaz and the Wesper speed run. Oh boy. Okay buckle up. I thought they didn't build up Wesper well enough, and they made them together for the fan service. I wish they had just made them friends or allies this season. Maybe Wylan was crushing on him a little, but I wanted that banter that they had in Soc. Jesper teasing him was great! This season I wished they had spent a lot more time on Jesper's crush on Kaz. Kit Young and Freddy Carter like to pretend it doesn't exist but it does. And I, (a biased Kazper shipper), really would have loved to see it in its early stages. For Inej and Jesper to bond over it and the utter angst in their scenes because Jes knows he won't like him like he likes her. They seriously cut all of that out, and made Jes say they were brothers which is not true. Kaz sees him as a brother, and it just takes out the whole impact of the Jordie line in CK.
Tolya and Inej better not-*sigh* not getting into that.. David I refuse to believe he is dead. He is a part of the Triumvirate, and he was supposed to get married to Genya before DYING. She cannot catch a freaking break.
I also didn't like how the Spinning Wheel was lame. Like, it was supposed to be in the sky. Buried in the mountains. Instead it's like a small mansion in the ground. The sea whip fetter was kind of lame too. Genya's scars could have been better, and so should the Darkling's Sharpie-drawn scars. One thing I just wish could happen is to show Jesper and Nina being bisexual. Like, at this point, people would think Jes is gay and Nina is straight. Is it too much to ask for them both to show their interest in women?
We didn't get lines like "I am not ruined, I am ruination. " and the iconic "i am become a blade. " I have hopes for s3 though. Flaws and all, I love SAB and I have faith in them to give us a good s3 and Six of Crows.

Okay so I've been really busy for months and I'm finally gonna like post the two dozen tumblr posts about the obsessions I've been in since fucking May, seriously they are all saved in my drafts and in need of editing, but damn it if I'm not gonna comment on the Gilded Age first. Should I be back logging from SAB to Percabeth to Game of Thrones to Nancy Drew to ER before I do this? Most definitely? Will I be doing that? Of fucking course not so sit the fuck down mutuals I'm about to unload about the bloody fucking Gilded Age.
So I adore The Gilded Age in like this really twisted way, but damn is it good. So when I started season 2 and found myself, dare I say board, I was a bit scared what one of my friends said about the premiere would be accurate, bot was I wrong, no no, it was boardroom, it was annoyance so let's discuss the pros and cons of the Gilded Age season 2 episode 1 as well as what I hope to see in the coming episodes and what I absolutely love and want most about this show.
Okay cons first cause those are easier. The opening is boring. There is a substantive lack of Larry Russel in the episode. And worst of all, it's not, what's the word, a good opener. Ya that's the word. the first half hour is boring and the second half brilliant. It's suffering a bit from what I'd like to call second season syndrome, some shows produce a season 2 opener even better than it's premiere episode (The West Wing, Agents of Shield, Game of Thrones, Grey's Anatomy, and many more), others, however, don't, and Gilded Age did not, at least at first. The slow opening, mainly the whole undetermined time jump thing, really doesn't help with that either.
Now with that out of the way, the pros! Okay so, let's see Marian, Oscar, Larry, Gladys, and Mrs. Russel were all in top form. The acting as always was impeccable! The ending was *chefs kiss* dramatic perfection. And of course the costumes and the sets, oh perfection. But most of all, my favorite pro from season 2 episode 1 was the characters and the ships!
Okay so let's list shall we.
I'm gonna start with Oscar. Love how he's got like an actually arc this season, we given him some development, we're given him some social shift, oh it's gonna be brilliant! I love him and Gladys, I love him and his romantic friend who I';m sure was named at some point but I've forgotten cause it's been a while since I watched season 1. I love all of it! I'm so excited to see the chaos develop as the season progresses.
Next up, the Irish maid the the American footmen (I know they have names but It's too late to dig out the imdb and I don't remember their names) They were adorably angsty in season 1 and now they keep being adorable and angsty. All I have to say is please of fucking please Julian Fellows don't you Fucking dare pull a Daisy and William on them. Okay? Okay?
It would be a crime to not also mention Mr. and Mrs. Russel, the power couple goals those two give off are so amazing! Honestly worshipable.
And last but not least the only ship not present in this first episode, and annoyingly the ship I adore most, Larry and Marian! Gods I adored the so obvious chemistry friends to lovers vibes they had going for them in season 1, and Fitzsimmons I feel I'm gonna be neglected some of those vibes this season. I desperately hope Larry returns from Rhode Island soon, and even more so interact with Miriam, look I know the trailers say he's gonna have an affair but I'll be dammed if that stops me shipping their chemistry (Should I list the ships I've shopped who weren't together and actually with other people for long stretches of time in the last month alone? I'll do it anyway. Nancy and Ace, Carol and Doug, Magnum and Higgens like three separate Grey's Anatomy ships, Beth and Benny, like probably something else too it's been a busy month). Anyways I'm so excited to see more of them, fingers crossed for episode 2. Anywho hope everyone has a lovely day while I sink into another ship relapse *looks at Paramount+* ooo, I should relapse in 5-0!

I've watched the new S&B trailer at least five times now because I'm incredibly excited, but you don't know how much I've been trying to get a look at that one tiny clip to see if any of the Grisha in the background are Ivan or Fedyor, and honestly I have such a bad suspicion that the show is either going to do them dirty or just barely have them at all, given the track record of shows and relationships like this.
Do we actually have any idea if Julian or Simon are even officially back for season 1, have either of them said anything or are they on the cast list, or do you think we won't actually know until the show airs? If we know for sure that they're there, we might be able to expect something, at least?
That aside, do you have any predictions or guesses for the season as a whole and how it'll follow or compare to the books? Are you excited? What do you hope to see happen?
We do know for sure that Julian/Fedyor is back. Simon has been more cagey. At the start of filming, he posted a few things which seemed to hint at it, but since confirming the fate of his character one way or the other is a spoiler, he can't say too much. Considering that we didn't see anything after Jesper yeeted him off the skiff with an explicit line about NOT killing him, it does seem likely that we will see him in some capacity. "Yeah he just died offscreen somehow" would just be incredibly lame.
That said, I'm still 99% sure they will end Fivan tragically, both since they die in book 2 and since they'll probably use their relationship as some sort of tragic metaphor for the Grisha civil war/representing the two of them being torn apart by competing allegiances to Alina and the Darkling. Which is irritating, since they made Fivan a couple for the show and adding extra-gratuitous queer pain is.... mmmm. I am not a fan.
As for my feelings about s2 overall, not sure. I'm not looking forward to watching Mal/Alina Valiantly Be In Love TM and I'm underwhelmed by the new additions to the cast. Nikolai looks like a generic frat boy and while I know Wylan's actor is 28, he still looks like he's 15 and it’s gonna be uncomfortable for me to watch Jesper attempt to smooth him, lol. (I love Wylan/Jesper in the books, but yes.)
That said, I will still have the Crows, Ben Barnes acting hot and psychotic, and so forth. I will admit that a lot of my overall s2 feelings will turn on how badly they screw over Fivan, and how much Mal/Alina YA Romance Tee Em I am forced to endure. I will probably wait and let myself be spoiled a bit before I watch, so I know what I am getting into, and depending on how much spite I feel, may write some more on my SAB/Fivan fics afterwards. We will see.

I'm very happy you're excited that this new character joins my masterlist!
Alright, sorry for the rather explanation ahead 😅
Basically, what happened is that I read the SaB trilogy. And it changed everything. Because I love the Darkling in the show, but it's Ben, so it was hard for me to tell if I just liked him because Ben did an amazing job, or because the character in itself was great. I struggle a little with writing villains, so I didn't want to risk doing a bad job, or to get you all excited and then after a couple of tries decide to backpedale and to not write for him in the end. It's always a little stressful to me to write for new characters, and I've started writing again not so long ago, so I wasn't ready to take the risk after watching the show. (I have however already written for him, will post the fic next week, so I'm sure, we're good to go, don't worry)
The problem with the show, for me, is that I was not particularly interested in Alina's storyline tbh. I was more excited to see the Crows (like many viewers, I reckon). And I was excited to see the Darkling because it was Ben, but not really because it was the Darkling (do you know what I mean?). And I didn't realise in the show how terrible the situation for Grisha is literally everywhere, not just in Fjerda or Ravka. So I wasn't that passionate about the Darkling tbh, and my attachment to him was 90% caused by how awesome Ben was on this show.
But then I read the books, and several things changed:
- I now hate Alina with a passion and if I didn't like her in the show, I genuinely wanted her to die in the books (sorry to all the Alina stans... I can't with her...)
-The books to me showed better how Grisha are safe literally NOWHERE. Like... there is no safe place. They are rounded up and killed in Ravka the second the Darkling's power wavers and the Little Palace is compromised. They are experiments for scientists in Shu Han, they are burnt alive in Fjerda, they are bought as slaves in Kerch. And I didn't feel how desperate the situation was in the show. And that made me turn full on team Darkling, because then Alina's crazy hope that everyone is going to live happily ever after all of a sudden is plain ridiculous... it's been going for centuries, it's not gonna change all of a sudden. And no matter if the Darkling's methods are ruthless, he is the only one who managed to offer a semblance of safety to his people in centuries.
-And then there's the Darkling himself. I can't say that his portrayal was more appealing to me in the books than in the show (who can beat Ben on that? No one...). But there are details that I really liked in the books compared to the show, including how endangered being an amplifier makes him even among his own people, and the fact that no one knows his name in the books. I loved that, because it shows that despite his efforts with the Little Palace, even if he manages to take the throne, he will always be alone, and he was always alone. And I felt the toil of eternity a little bit more in the books. Which is always super fun to play with as a writer cause... angst... you know 😉 I also loved the call back in book three on the 'Fine, make me your villain' (I don't know if you've read the books, but I will explain): because at the end of book 3, The Darkling wants to lure Alina in the Fold, and for that he threatens to slaughter Grisha children that Alina had placed in Keramzin after the destruction of the Little Palace. Lots of things happen, but Alina does get into the Fold and she asks him where the children are and he basically answers 'well, they're probably having lunch or playing in the garden in the safe house where I've left them' and she's super confused by that like 'you said you were going to kill everyone!' And there there is a call back on the idea that... she made him her villain. He acted like one because it served his interests best, but now that she's convinced, he doesn't even need to actually do anything, the threat is enough. And i love how he just goes 'they are innocent Grisha children, why on earth would I do that? Don't you think enough people on our side have died already?' And I just... I love it. The manipulation of it. His image. The... everything, that scene is so important bfbfjfkfkfjfjkfnd (sorry... going into fangirl mode a bit)
In conclusion: I loved the Darkling for Ben in the show, and as I am not used to write for villains, I doubted myself too much to write for him. But now I've read the books and I have turned full on Team Darkling, he is now my baby, my child, my husband, I love him, I want to give hugs and kisses and keep him safe and help him commit genocides. So here we are...

okay I have way too many thoughts about sab season 2 so here goes *deep breath*
on the "main storyline" side: as someone who hasn't read the sab books but has read soc duology, I rlly liked alina's storyline this season and thought it was decently paced for how few episodes there were. i loved mal and nikolai being friends and not having a random awful love triangle and that alina didn't love nikolai except for platonically! made sense.
baghra kicked ass and ben was again amazing as the d*rkling. loved seeing alinas struggle and his side even though i hate him, because we got to see genya. (SIDE NOTE GENYADAVID WRECKED ME.)
mal being sturmhond was actually a nice twist imo. the twins ROCK and i love tamar and nadia sm. adrik too he's so cute.
on the crows side: even though i adore the crows (and there were zero faults with the cast's performances, as usual), i found myself a little disappointed with some of the writing. some decisions to put book scenes in early made sense (MORE SENSE THAN SOME OF YOU WILL GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR, considering they want to feed us crumbs IF the show gets cancelled), but generally it was disorienting to see the ck plotline, or at least part of it.
i think that the one great thing abt the ck plotline is that it opens up new implications for matthias and pekka's motives, both towards each other and towards kaz, and i love that idea. it's something i'm the most excited for, honestly.
kaz's backstory was well-done and well-acted by jordie, young kaz, and current kaz! freddy continues to be an absolute superstar and one of my favorites in the cast. one thing about kaz, tho: i HATED that the dregs weren't already his crew...like girl who tf is running the crow club. kaz is older in this iteration but not by THAT MUCH...anyways i do think it'll provide basis for the big bolliger/not trusting kaz scene at the beginning of the real soc plot but i still didn't like it.
the other major thing i hated was how rushed wesper was (this one is pretty obvious), but let me also volunteer this: it made sense. of the crows, they have the least traumatic relationship (even tho they have personal traumas yk), and because we can't guarantee that the show will get a spinoff, SOMEONE has to end up happy. thus, no slow burn. annoyed about it, but it's not unreasonable + i adore jack and kit together.
kaNEJ THIS SEASON OMG. the scene in the chapel at the end of the season...wow. i thought it was superbly done and made sense in the storyline of the show, despite being from the books. yes, they had some slightly rushed moments, but again, no guarantees for another season. also this means they're probably planning even more development for a spinoff!!
helnik...cal and dani blow me away even when they're not together?? how do they do that?? amazing. i loved the tension; it was just like the books.
jesper's powers becoming stronger after he hallucinates aditi were a nice touch imo. when colm comes around he'll have to reckon with himself even more now, so that's actually interesting + good setup. he was amazing in episode seven!!!
INEJ SAVING ALINA AGAIN. the implications it has for her religious beliefs are so wow. also, her looking for slavers with sturmhond (MAL!) and the crew is great bc we'll see her again, but it also gives her a minor amount of closure. not full closure, but enough to keep fans wanting to see her again.
on a general note: my favorite episodes were five and seven. i thought five did character interactions super well (specifically nina/kaz and kanej), and seven brought the characters from both storylines together in a way that was, imo, better than last season. also, in episode eight: ALINA USING THE DARK CUT ON THE PAREM SOLDIER?? WOWOWOWW I LOVE THAT I'M SO EXCITED. people will be mad kaz knew about parem before van eck told him but my guess is that the van eck kidnapping stuff DID happen and we just didn't see it yet (wait for spinoff!!)
i'll definitely have to write more posts as it settles in, but yeah...that's the gist of it lol. basically: i will always be a show defender, even if there's clumsy writing and some hamfisting!! i love that damn show!! i am really excited to see them again (praying for a spinoff) and i loved the way the season ended tbh.

Sab, my dearest!! I'm so sorry I didn't comment on part 3 :( I started a new job, adult life and imposter syndrome have been kicking my ass badly but hey, it's getting better!
I read part 3 and 4 back to back and I've been crying for the past two hours. Your writing is so, so good. The tenderness, the internal conflict of Suguru as he realizes he needs to let her go... it hits just right, even more considering I'm a long distance girlie myself hahah.
And gosh, I promise my allegiance for prof Geto won't be swayed but– I have to admit, I've got a soft spot for Yuta and I want him to get a happy ending as well. But, the thing I'm the most excited about is to see how Suguru fully realises the extent to which he fucked up and watch him make up for it and get her back for good (and I'm secretly hoping he'll propose at some point hehe)

I just finished watching the first episode of Shadow And Bone season two! Thoughts under the cut:
Them arresting the three Crows and Inej just. Not being there. Hilarious
"you're wanted for murder" "we just got back to the city" I'm PERISHING
Kaz in the wagon almost passing out. Jesper freaking out and A) trying to get the wagon to stop and B) calling Kaz first Boss, and then his first name. NEED I SAY MORE
Making Nikolai the one who hired them to find Alina is kind of amazing, I adored that part. Especially Kaz IMMEDIATELY figuring out that it was him
WYLAN'S INTRO AND HIM JUST PLAYING THE CROWS THEME ON HIS FLUTE ABSOLUTELY IMMACULATE
(yeah most of this is gonna be about the Crows I won't lie)
HOWEVER Mal has kinda grown on me since season one! That said, I watched it with no context and a Darklina shipper. Also I just don't care about the SAB part of the storyline as much
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF NIKOLAI TOLYA AND TAMAR OBVIOUSLY
I really really love how much of the world building from the books (that I know of) they put in
Yeah okay so Kaz just. Blew up the Crow Club huh. The boy has no chill whatsoever

So yeah I'm really enjoying it so far!! Super fun storyline, and I really missed these characters. I'm also so excited about the new characters, they're all cast so well and portrayed BEAUTIFULLY. Can't wait to see what else happens!

Dev-Max (pronounced Deo-Max)
Alright, for this one, we need to invite Aryadev back, however, not the same old gool 'ol jolly natured Aryadev. This time I need to introduce y'all to an alternate personality of his, DEV-MAX. In simple terms, Dev-Max is a completely chaotic and unhinged entity which only comes out when Mary Jane is involved. (*wink*-*wink*)
So, a new semester had just started and all of were sitting in Aryadev's room. There were like eight people there and everyone was excited about this new semester, talking about what are the subjects or who are the professors and what not. Soumya who you might know from my previous anecdotes had stepped out in the corridor for a phone call.
While he had stepped out, Aryadev got under MJ's influence and then came the beloved yet fearful Dev-Max. As Dev-Max was about to fire his first round of pure chaos, Soumya busted into the room with eyes so wide I thought he had seen a ghost. He was panting and was visibly bamboozled.
Everyone had went quiet, all the laughter and gossip had come to a halt. One of us asked him what had happened. (Now, if, and it is a big "if", I had known what he was about to say, I would have never allowed him to speak the truth in that room). Soumya said, "I had called someone and was waiting for them to pick up. I was walking and I went at the end of the corridor where the staircases are. Then I saw two boys, making out there, on the staircase. It was not intentional but I locked eyes with them in confusion and they charged towards me. I panicked and ran here, it wa-". Before the man could complete his statement, EVERYONE in the room upon hearing that two boys were making out on the staircase, charged out of the room to see them, with the one and only Dev-Max leading the cavalry. I grabbed one of them to ask why are they so excited, he said, "bhai maine pehle kabhi ye sab dekha nahi hai, pata nahi kaise hota hai?". (Bro, I haven't seen this before so I'm curious as to how does this happen exactly?).
Upon hearing the explanation, mine and Soumya's jaws hit the floor because it was the most stupid and illogical explanation that we had heard up until that point. As we were digesting what had happened, Soumya peeked out of the room into the dimly lit corridor and quickly rushed back inside.
Before I could understand what had happened I saw, from the opened doorway, three of our friends running and just two seconds later Dev-Max himself, laughing like a maniac and chasing them with him arms wide open.
"Lock the frickin' door, the hell's happening??", I scream and Soumya closes the door. Later we find out that there was no one on the staircase. However, I do have a conspiracy theory. I believe that the two boys might have been there and would have seen an unhinged Dev-Max running towards them with a grizzly laugh followed by a boatload of screaming boys. People, if I would have seen something so terrifying, I would, never in my lifetime, choose to sit anywhere remotely close to that staircase, moreover, I would be a regular with Psychotherapy for the trauma.
Dev-Max for the win!!! (I guess?)
