Ideas I've had for the life series = toddlers in a playground au we all seem to like atm:
'golden' apples are actually just yellow apples that the daycare get sometimes, but they've all decided that their magical.
It's actually an afterschool club, and mumbo usually doesn't go, but his mum's car broke down, so he joined the games for a little while until the car was fixed and he stopped going again.
The afterschool thing also explains why there's a long-ish time between episodes. School feels like it takes forever for most kids, so it feels like forever between each game.
The Watcher/Listener thing was from a game at Grian and the others old school, but they've decided it was a secret and to not tell anyone.
Grian was off school because he was sick in the afk episode, so he left his plushy to play the game instead so he didn't miss out (currently can't decide whether it should be a parrot plushy or smthn else)
all of their separate smps (hermitcraft, empires, etc) are just different form classes their in, but not everyone goes to the afterschool club, which is why not everyone is there.
the whole 'rift ' crossover was just the kids way of explaining their two classes getting merged because of short staffing. The hermit shrinkers was just Grian stealing people's shoes because the heel made them taller.
All of their builds were either made from Lego or a toyhouse.
Joel did borrow a dictionary/thesaurus from the teacher for the bad/mad/sad/rad/dad/vlad boys joke.
Same thing with the ahas.

Grian feels the Entity mocking him as he groans and leans back against a cold, unforgiving spike of bedrock at the bottom of Doc’s cold, unforgiving pit. He has tried three times to contact help, but everyone who is online or looking at their communicators is either busy or would get stuck themselves, or maybe they just aren’t getting his messages, and he has a stupid sprained or possibly broken wing and the slimes are avoiding him for some reason so he can’t even get them to kill him so he respawns properly and god, he’s miserable and hurting and hates that he hadn’t thought through diving for diamonds and -
He makes a frustrated groan as his message to his friends doesn’t go through again and, in a brief moment of stupidity, throws his communicator. It bounces off the stone. Makes him feel slightly better, but not much.
Slowly, he feels something lethargic curl in the back of his mind. Well. There he is, facing the consequences of his actions.
Wonderful. The peanut gallery.
Grian curls his legs up to his chest. He just wants out of this hole before he starves to death. He’ll respawn, one way or another, but he doesn’t have a quick way to do it, and his wing’s a bit too injured to crawl out easily and move himself, and maybe he doesn’t want to just... hurt for like, several days, because his communicator isn’t working for some reason. He knows it was stupid, doing a dive like that around uneven terrain, okay, he’s not an idiot. He’d just - he hadn’t realized how badly the size of the perimeter would mess up wind currents, and he’d thought he had enough rockets to correct for them if they were rough, and - he knows it was stupid. He doesn’t need his other bad decision criticizing him. Even if it’s here to help.
Here to...?
Well, it will hurt anyway. Grian’s made a deal before. Surely he’s willing to deal again?
The thing curled in his head is vast, and it is interested, and Grian aches. Okay. Sure. He’d made a deal with the Entity once. It had been a gunpoint deal. It had hitched a ride. Grian had... objected. The two of them had hashed out a compromise. That time, Grian had been in control. The Entity hadn’t known what to do, when it turned out that Grian had the annoyance and the will to try to kick it out, and had offered Grian power. Some power it was, Grian was stuck at the bottom of a hole and was going to starve to death and he shouldn’t be panicking, he’s had worse, but his wing is definitely broken and even with a respawn that can take weeks to heal and he doesn’t have weeks he just has -
The Entity is not finished giving him power.
He turns that over in his head for a moment. The thing in the back of his head lets him, withdrawing as though to make sure it’s only Grian in there to think. He knows its not, but he appreciates the gesture.
Alright. He knows he got some knowledge from the Entity. It’s part of what he’s doing with the Rift. But what power is he missing?
They aren’t fully bonded yet.
Grian snorts. The Entity knows full well he’s not letting it eat him. They’ve had that little argument. They’ve had that little argument a multitude of times. Grian always wins. Grian will continue to win even as his lungs shudder at the bottom of a pit he is going to die in and be mocked for dying in (which is uncharitable to think of Doc, Grian knows he won’t, but it feels like). Grian's too stubborn to give up being Grian. It doesn't matter what the Entity wants, or if the Entity wants to win.
The Entity, the thing curled in his head explains, has no particular interest in winning anymore. No, the Entity is invested now. It could leave, it supposes, but it's... invested. It has come up with another solution.
Grian's interested in winning though.
Grian's interested in not dying at the bottom of a pit.
Grian's interested in having his thoughts to himself again, but has no interest in letting the Entity go - it's too interesting. And he's intrigued. And if the Entity is no longer interested in winning, in controlling Grian utterly, then if it's offering power -
Alright. What’s its solution then? What power will it give him to get out of this? And if it’s a trick, Grian’s not sure what he’ll do, but...
So it explains. And it retreats again. And Grian laughs, hoarsely. “That is going to hurt,” he says weakly, because it is. It’s going to hurt a lot, and he’s going to die horribly. But it never said it wouldn’t hurt. “That is going to hurt both of us, if you’re tying us that closely together.”
But he would get out of this hole. And he would have power. And Grian - Grian isn’t really afraid of hurting, he’s just afraid of hurting for a long time.
“Alright,” Grian says. “Alright. We seal this. You only eat a little bit,” he says. “That’s the deal. And I get a bit of you. We’re stuck together now, now aren’t we?”
Good, thinks the Entity, thinks Grian, and then there are thin stone talons on Grian’s hands where they hadn’t been before and he takes a deep breath, and he swallows, and he digs them into his heart.
He does not have very long to watch the blood and flesh drip down them before he’s screaming. He’d been right. It hurts.
He thrashes on hard stone when he wakes up in it and he knows he’s not done, he has to do it one more time, he has to - to seal it both ways, so he walks to the Entity (who may or may not be there) and he holds up his clawed hand and he laughs hoarsely and asks “is that still the part you want?” because he’s going to at least be a bit sarcastic about it, if he’s doing this.
The Entity says yes.
It hurts less to tear his heart out the second time. Still hurts a lot. When he wakes up on the ground, he’s not sure he’s respawned, given that he’s still bleeding, but his wing is healed to a degree even the respawn wouldn’t have managed, and he’d made it out of the hole in the ground, and he can feel a heartbeat beneath his feathers, and it’s strangely warm and damp and he knows he’s inside of the Entity now, not in a pit waiting to die.
The Entity has flesh now. Grian’s talons are still made of sharp stone. He feels power between his teeth, and it feels good.
“Don’t ask me to do that again,” he says, and he looks down at the place where there’s still a bloody wound and promptly passes out. When a panicking Mumbo finds him about two hours later, the only sign there’s anything wrong is the frankly absurd amount of blood staining all of his clothes, but he’ll talk his way out of it. He always does.

My #1 post of 2022
I grew up in hospitals until I was about 10 and my health stabilized [and so did my legs]. What is being done by the hermitcraft community will help so many kids fight boredom, and lighten up their time spent in the hospital for sure.
When I was doing a long stint in a children hospital after a surgery on my leg, I was wheelchair bound. At the time, the hospital didn't have anything that I could play with in the room, but I could go down to a little playroom - the issue was, the playroom was so narrow that getting around it in the only available wheelchair [a wide seat adult wheelchair] for a little girl in third grade was impossible. I got frustrated, gave up, and went back to my room.
One of the nurses had a gameboy - I don't remember what the game was, but she let me play it for an hour until they needed me to go down to PT and its one of the only memories I have from that stay in the hospital. It was the only thing I really did besides the monotony of being in the hospital and staring at the wall. Video games and entertainment are so important for hospital patients, and hospitals do not have the funding to provide that themselves. Gaming Outreach is doing a beautiful thing, and Hermitcraft just made a HUGE investment into them. I saw someone point out that, based on the math they've done all day, its enough to get 4 carts each to the 21 hospitals on their waiting list.
I'm so happy I decided to get into Hermitcraft in July. I'm never leaving. I could cry for Scar and the rest of the Hermits right now. As a community, we've done something absolutely beautiful today.

I played Adventures with Anxiety a few days ago, and it inspired me to draw myself with the embodiment of my own personal fears! (Originally it was meant to be a cat, but somehow it became this weird fox thing)
I've always used personification to cope with my anxiety, so seeing somebody else portray it in this way was very comforting for me. Overall 10/10 game, would recommend

Okay so
Tfc, or TinFoilChef, is the oldest of the Hermits, being in his mid to late 60s. He has two YouTube channels; the TinFoilChef channel, where he uploads short vlogs about interesting things that happen in his life, and the TinFoilChef's Gaming Channel, where you'll find his Hermitcraft series, alongside a few others including, but not limited to, Fallout 4, a 10+ year old series where he walks to the farlands, and a few modded series that I'm pretty sure are discontinued at this point.
In terms of Hermitcraft, I can only really speak on s6 and later, but, his main Gimmick™ is that he puts the mine in minecraft. Much of his time is spent in his sprawling branch mines (and they are branch mines, he had a whole rant in s6 about the distinction between branch and strip mines) beneath the server that can stretch for miles. Seriously, after the s6 World download released, someone posted a video on here of themselves in spectator mode showing how far they went, and I vividly remember them going as far as Iskall and Stress' starter bases in that ice biome. If anyone can find that post, please reblog this with a link it's truly a sight to behold.
His vibes are very cozy, it's very rare that anything crazy will happen during a TFC episode, and if it does he takes it all in stride, so if you're not a fan of screaming and pranks then he's your guy, even that rant I mentioned was more like a good natured scolding.
All in all, he's very chill, very sweet, and you should watch him here's his channel go subscribe right now you'll thank me later

“I left you alone with him for one second!” Etho shouts, grabbing Tango by the neck of shirt. Tango feels the adrenaline pumping through his veins, blood rushing loudly in his ears. “One second, Tango!”
He doesn’t think he’s ever seen Etho this angry. He wasn’t one to carry his heart on his sleeve, he hid his emotions behind his laid back demeanor and the mask covering his face.
Sure, you could usually tell when he was happy and Tango knew him long enough to pick up on some of the subtler cues, how his brows furrowed in annoyance or the way his nose scrunched when he was confused but he had never seen such apparent anger on the man’s face and he had to admit that it terrified him. Especially since that anger seemed to be directed directly at him.
“It wasn’t my fault.” He cries, struggling to free himself from Etho’s grip. “He just fell!”
“And you were right there next to him!” Etho pulls him closer again, his eyes boring into Tango, the harsh glow of the Nether making it seem like there was something burning behind them.
“Etho, he fell.” Tango shouts and manages to pull himself free. He stumbles back a few blocks, getting out of arm’s reach.
“What would you have me do? Catch him?” He means for it to sound like a joke, a desperate attempt to lighten the mood, but he nearly chokes on the word, guilt weighing down his tongue.
For a moment they just stare at each other. There is a silent, bitter rage burning in Etho’s eyes, his fists tightly clenched at his side. Tango’s heart is beating in his throat, a chill running down his spine despite the blazing heat. The soul sand underneath Etho’s boots scrunches as he shifts his weight and Tango involuntarily reaches for the hilt of his sword. The blood rushing in his ears is so loud that he doesn’t even hear what Etho says next, only sees the fabric of his mask move ever so slightly.
“What?” He asks, forcing himself to calm down. Etho isn’t going to hurt him. Etho can’t hurt him, even if he wanted to. They are both on green, both not allowed to attack. Unlike Bdubs, who went from green to red in the span of a few hours, who is probably on his way back, who probably-
“You could give him a life.” Etho repeats, violently derailing Tango’s train of thought.
“What?” He asks again, panic quickly making way for confusion.
“You could give him a life.” Etho repeats slowly, voice deceptively calm. “You’re on green.”
“So are you!” Tango shouts, stepping away even further. “Why should I be the one to give up one of my lives?”
“Because I have three lives and you have five.” Etho leans forward and Tango tightens the grip on his shield, readies himself for an attack.
“I am not giving Bdubs a life.” He states firmly, holding his ground.
“Why not?” Etho demands, and there is that anger again, evident in the tense line of his shoulders, the way his eyes narrow.
“Because it’s not my fault that he died!” He yells, throwing his free hand up in the air. “If you want to guilt someone into giving him a life, ask Scar. He’s the reason Bdubs was on yellow in the first place.”
“Only because he traded his life for that stupid enchanting table.”
“Well, that’s not my fault either!”
“But you were the one who brought it up. You had the idea to get the stupid thing in the first place.” He takes a sudden step forward and Tango leaps back on instinct, raising his shield. Etho’s eyes narrow even further.
“It’s not my fault, Etho.” He licks his lips, his mouth dry from panic again. “Stop trying to shift the blame around.”
It’s as if someone flicked a switch in Etho’s brain, all the rage draining out of him in an instant.
A soft “oh” escapes him as he watches the other man crumble in on himself like a puppet whose strings have been cut. He lowers his shield and carefully steps towards him, reaching out a hand.
“Etho, it’s not your fault either.” He mutters, gently laying a hand on his arm. He tenses under the touch but doesn’t shrug him off, just turns his head away to stare out at the ocean of lava.
“I should have been there.” He whispers, almost too quiet to hear. “I should have protected him.”
“There is nothing you could have done. It was just one wrong step.” Tango replies, squeezing his arm. Etho shakes his head slightly, still looking off into the distance.
“I should have been there, Tango.” He repeats and Tango can see his lips quiver ever so slightly through the fabric of his mask. “I was supposed to protect him.”
“Etho, you-”
“I was supposed to protect him.” He snaps, startling Tango when he whips his head around again. “I should have seen this coming. I never should have taken him to the Nether in the first place.”
The anger creeps back into his voice, though this time it seems to be directed at himself and not at Tango.

Listening to Now's Your Chance To Be A on repeat, a few notes and headcanons:
I now headcanon that Jevil teamed up with Spamton to make that song, because the higher parts in the song sound just like him
At the end(50 seconds in all the way to the end) it stops sounding like "Now's your chance to" and starts sounding like "now he can't move". I have no idea what this would mean, but I'd love to hear your theories!
I love that Toby Fox named it that and then the other route's track is named "BIG SHOT" XD

Mumbo's escalation definitely has something to do with the moon. How could it not? It was noticed only an episode (I believe) before this, and it was noticed by both Mumbo and Grian, who seem to be the biggest players in this plotline. My questions are how and why. It's a common myth that people are crazier on the full moon, so who knows what would happen if the moon got bigger?

Of course, this can't be all he's talking about. I mean, the other Hermit whose current plotline is literally him being controlled by his evil counterpart commenting on the episode where Mumbo goes crazy for sure? This could have some spectacular implications to what's really happening. What does Evil X know of this? What does Mumbo know of Evil X? I'm so excited!

It feels like a lot of people didn't notice the resolution of Mumbo's "Peace, Love, and Plants" arc, so I'm going to summarize and then rave abt it(Go watch Mumbo and Grian's episodes if you haven't yet!)
(spoilers for Hermitcraft s8)
So, Scar drops them all in the Boatem Hole(a very good place for their season to end, but that's another rant) and Mumbo and Grian are the last two to go down, with Grian on half a heart.
(Grian has kept himself on half a heart throughout their getting into the spaceship in preparation for this moment)
Grian suggests a high five for old times sake, and when they do so, Mumbo's hit kills Grian, whom Mumbo squeezed out his soul from, whom he had the Tree War with, who's been his best friend. His no killing streak was ended, not by some murderous cheat day like he had thought, but by a goodbye gesture at the end of the world.
Just, that whole gesture is so poetic to me, and it feels like it got skipped over by a lot of the fanbase. I loved every second of it.

Here's some fun, non-to-lightly spoilery Rift AU thoughts for everyone!
So Ren in Rift AU is inspired by the faon interpretation [maybe closer to canon? I havent watched s7] of Mayor Scar mixed w the Red King from 3rd Life - Specifically, Ren is inspired by @mochiwrites's Scar in her Good Crimes AU [Which if you haven't read you ABSOLUTELY should]. I just love how she wrote Scar to be publicly one way and Privately another, and while I certainly don't imagine that Ren the King is quite as beloved, the inspiration is there.
Originally, Rift AU was tagged w Watcher Grian but I changed that because I want to mess with the Rift as it's own separate force and leave the Watchers for something else. I think the Watchers [And Listeners! *looks at Martyn*] function more as an ancient, ANCIENT religion, maybe even older than the ancient cities.
Also another original idea that's been put to the side for now is that the Warden was a watcher - I don't know where I was originally going with that idea, but it was my first pivot after deciding Grian wasn't going to be the watcher.
For anyone curious, and because I don't know if I'll name it directly in the stories or just leave it more ambiguous, I'm basing Scar's mobility issues and chronic pain off my own experiences with Cerebral Palsy, among other things. I have a very mild for of Cerebral Palsy that left me with a weaker right side and mobility issues and I absolutely wanted to make sure Scar was still disabled even if he isn't wheelchair bound. I imagine that he certainly has a wheelchair for bad days, but those would be like. Really bad days. The staff - to - cane that he has, made out of the same magical wood as his tree, is probably good for most of the sort of bad days.
Rift AU actually started as a way for me to explore sculk and ancient cities in fiction, which is funny given that we are now 17k in and counting with no mention of either. I have plans for it, but the story needed more work up than I was originally anticipating, which is great! I'm really enjoying returning to my roots with fanfiction, which is the whole reason I started writing Rift AU in the first place
Obviously I'm sort of picking and choosing what elements from hermitcraft [and the life series] I want to include in Rift AU but I am a little bit grumpy that I started writing it before I really fully understood the king plot [When I started, I had only watched Grian and Etho. Now I've caught up on Ren, Impulse, Mumbo, and Cleo, with plans to watch Pearl, Tango, Zedaph, and Doc next. I also really want to watch Beef and Iskall lol] because now I really wanna jam the whole royal council shenanigans in there and I'm not gonna be able to without probably retconning Scar and Ren's relationship which I refuse to do!
Obviously, Mumscarian and Treebark are in the story, and there's also going to be platonic Soup Group and platonic Team ZITS [bc. Skizz deserves to be here. I love him]. I won't tell you ALL of the pairings that end up in the story because a. I feel like we're be here all day but b. some of them are spoilers but I AM planning on having Solidaritek [Apparently team ranchers is only for platonic or something???] and ZedBeef and also Ethubs all make their own appearances. There might even be some like short stories following a few of the other couples in the story because I have attachments to Ethubs in particular. IDK if you can tell but Etho is my favorite hermit and I used to watch him all the way back in 2011 on his singleplayer world. I remember the boat dispenser. My baby girl.
One of these days I will genuinely type up an essay about my latent energy theory but in case anyone else is interested here's a very short tldr version: Redstone, Glowstone, End Rods, debatably sculk [I havent decided if it falls into the same category yet tbh], etc etc all power themselves via latent energy. That latent energy is compatible with electricity in some way, as evidenced by the fact that lightning rods can be used to power redstone machines, but it's different. More in between electricity and magic - either because it actually is or because it's not as understood by the people who work it. That same latent energy is the stuff magic feeds off, like is seen in Changing of the Season to help rejuvenate Scar. Whatever it is is old. Older than the Ancient Cities since they knew to build redstone machines to distract the Warden. It's older than the end cities, too, since end rods exist. Arguably it has always been and will always be around in some way.
Also this might not interest anyone else but thoughts on vampires and elves. Vampires are more closely related to Zombies, whereas Elves [Who are Fae, which means the Vex are included here] are more closely related to Endermen than anything [<- that will come up again] - and then the Warden and sculk are like. Very distant cousins of vampires. Sort of. Their trees connect somewhere.

oh yeah, i also tend to liveblog streams, especially joe streams - if you don’t want potential stream spoilers (as joe records his videos on stream and also sometimes stuff happens) you may want to block ‘stream liveblogging’. i have that tag in the first place because i wanted it to be blockable, since my liveblogging can occasionally get to be A Lot!
