#i'm going to make individual posts for these guys too and queue them up

Bit of a ramble about some backend things below the cut. Just a heads up about queue order and reblogging on my end in case anyone is curious about seeing repeats or odd scheduling.
:readmore:
I may go back and recycle some of the older ShadAmy again. We've gotten a lot of new followers since the last time I did so, though I know the tail end of that run is still slowly being parsed out and through the system. I'm also playing a bit of a numbers game in my head as I try to smooth everything out and secure a backlog in the event that, you know, nobody decides to make content for a while.
I probably shouldn't worry about it, but I like to keep the queue as close to 300 (the max) as possible and just get antsy when it isn't. Doing so guarentees me 30 days of schedualed content for you guys, as I have a 10 post per day timescheme that has been organized in the queue function.
The overflow to be organized is kept in drafts. Right now, the drafts sort pile has huge backlog of really cool art in general that I don't want to overwhelm people with. I usually try to keep a Person A, Person B, romance piece trifecta in play. Occasionally I cave and queue up just A B A B, or reblog on the spot, but I only do that in special cases. I could just... queue up more solo art if you guys are comfortable with that. I know it's a ship blog, but like, Amy and Shadow are cool as individual characters too, and I like to try to shine a light on that just as much as I like to shine a light on them together.
Of course, all late submissions for the ship week will still be reblogged on-sight.
... I don't know exactally why I'm explaining all this. I guess it's in equal parts to just let you guys know what's going on and also in case anyone is interested I how I run the blog. And also, to get feedback on stuff, like to see if you guys are comfortable with more solo art. I could put moreinto rotation and maybe up the schedualed posts to 15 a day vs 10. I use to do 15/20back when I was digging through old and abandoned blogs for art. It is a shame that when a person deactivates, all their stuff is just... lost. I also wish the search function let you search for oldest first. Goodness, if these two things were changed, I would practically be spelunking through the tags XD

14th of October, 2021
WOW. It has been a long time since I've posted one of these, and for that I'm sorry because I've really wanted to make these updates more frequent. But sometimes not that much gets done and I never want to report to you guys that nothing has happened to progress the demo release and disappoint y'all.
I'd also like to apologise for how quiet the blog has been over the past while and for being patient with me. I promise I see every single ask and reply, and I'm so so thankful for every bit of support and every curious question about the game. However, working in customer service just drains me and now that I'm full-time, my social battery is at an all time low. I swear I'll get back to everyone and start posting more regularly soon. Maybe I'll set up a queue? So that the blog is never just quiet for weeks.
But for some goods news: finally, we have arrived at a turning point in the development! Woo, let me hear those cheers. Anyway... I've been writing all day and I got a lot done. I'm finishing up all the old scenes that I'd half-written and going to send them off to Megan tonight so she can code them. The current word count for the demo is 15K words, but I still need to add in 2.5-ish scenes.
Speaking of the scenes, I recently had a massive lightbulb-lighting-up-in-brain moment and got an idea for a new (slightly massive) scene to add before the final two scenes that I think will really nicely tie up the chapter. Before this scene, the chapter was alright, but it was kind of blah. Despite this being the chapter where you find out and react to the news of your mother's death, it still felt a little too expositiony and not enough actiony. This fixes all of it, and on top of that, will let you establish your MC's main starting skills and their approach to their career.
I'm seriously so excited to write this scene. You're going to be sent out by your boss to report on a recent murder (as in fresh blood still on the pavement kind of recent because Victor Dominguez has the best information network in the city), which will see you break into a crime scene (as you do) and come face-to-face with a deadly, and potentially suspicious individual. I'm SO ready to write this scene. I really hope y'all enjoy it just as much as I do.
For now chapter one seems to be wrapping up on its own. I only have 2.5 scenes left to write. The murder reporting scene, the death of your mother, and the MC leaving the city to return home for the funeral. I can see the end now, theydies, and it looks so damn sweet.
In other news: nothing too interesting has been happening on my end. I've just been working and writing while trying to force myself to read all the books I bought over the course of my master's degree that I swore I'd read once my degree was over. Alas, they sit unread on my bookshelf. Maybe one day.
Thank you so much for all of your love and support! I really can't wait to release this demo for y'all to enjoy. But until then, I hope you all have had a lovely time this October and have an amazing day.
WORD COUNT (without code): 15,047
DEMO RELEASE: So soon I can feel it in my bones

all fired up to work on the ao3downloader because someone gave me $12 for it (thank you??? that's so nice omg). the next thing I really want to add that I've been wanting to do for a long time is wayback machine integration, like make it so that for every fic it downloads it also saves a snapshot to the internet archive. Like that would be awesome right? I actually have a local branch where I've been working on this functionality a bit... as usual the basic idea is simple but in practice it's a mess. Like, if I have one link that I want to put on the wayback machine via code. that's pretty easy actually. all you have to do is send a GET to "https://web.archive.org/save/https://archiveofourown.org/works/12345" or whatever. easy.
when I have a lot of links that I want to put on the wayback machine via code... and I want to do it while I'm also doing a bunch of web requests to ao3... that's where the problems start to arise.
Problem The First: if I don't want to massively extend the runtime of this program that already takes hours to run, I am now staring down the barrel of multithreading bullshit. ugh. I was so pleased to have an excuse to dodge that bullet in the form of ao3's rate limit, you guys. I was all smug and secure in the knowledge that I was perfectly justified in doing everything in plodding synchronous order because I was already going as fast as ao3 would let me. it was great! but anyway whatever, I bit that bullet and implemented a queue for the wayback links, fiiiiiiiiine. yeah, it doesn't work. I mean, it kind of works, but it skipped a bunch of links and my clever idea for a progress indicator turned out to be completely inaccurate. which is about where I threw in the towel the last time I worked on this.
Problem The Second: actually getting the link to put in the GET request. you would think that would be simple, right? I mean obviously I already have access to the relevant links to save them to your actual computer right? lol. well first of all the way I'm getting the links to individual works and series is via a stupid complicated recursive function that already has WAY too many optional parameters. and like, inside that function is the only place I actually ever have a handle to the work links. (unless I want to parse them from the log file, I guess...) so basically unless I figure out some way to completely refactor the entire central algorithm that powers the script (which I probably should do precisely because it keeps causing me these kinds of problems, but is now the time??) the only way to do this is to make that function even more complicated and add even more optional parameters. even if I decide to do some kind of cop-out bullshit and like, save all the links to a file so you can wayback them in a separate step (which might happen lol, that stupid queue...) one way or the other whatever I do is happening inside my darling mutant baby download_recursive(). SECOND of all I have to find some way to handle explicit works. because currently, if you're logged in, I don't ever bother getting the actual view_adult=true link. Why would I, you're logged in, you can just use the regular link! uh but that means I never actually have the right link to hand to the wayback machine for those works. unless you don't log in. gah. nightmare!
wow this post got away from me a bit. anyway that's where I'm at on that!

Since the holiday season is approaching, have some ‘bringing your friend/partner over to meet your fam’ prompts. I left out any particular holiday since I don’t want it to be christian centric or require a holiday, just open for interpretation and fitting your individual scenario. Obviously change pronouns/relationship titles as needed to fit the muse’s scenario. -Xo ❤❤❤
Meeting the family
“Your granddad ever stop talking, or is this going to continue for another three hours?
“I know you said you have a lot of siblings, but I was not mentally prepared for just how many people that really is.”
“Your brother has all the presidents memorized? In order? For fun?”
“Apparently my brother is bringing his new girlfriend. I’ve never met her so I can’t say whether that’s a good or bad thing.”
“If my dad says anything about politics just ignore him, grin and bear it. It won’t go well otherwise.”
“Babe, I love you, but I’m not praying before I eat, even for you.”
“Are you parents going to judge me if I have more than one drink? Are they going to judge me if I don’t drink at all? What is the right answer here?”
“Remember to take your shoes off at the door, or Mom is going to murder you.”
“Oh, I should warn you- Mom’s little dog is spoiled rotten to the point she refuses to train it, and treats it like a human. She will swear it won’t bite. It will absolutely bite.”
“Don’t get super affectionate or my parents are going to make it weird.”
“Is this too dressed up? Should I go more casual?”
“Just expect to be grilled on when we’re getting married and having a baby. And you have my blessing to tell them none of their fucking business.”
“I hope you warned your parents I don’t eat meat.”
“Either you parents respect we’re together, or I’m not going. It’s the twenty-first century. They don’t get a say.”

RELATIONSHIP MEME
Here’s some random relationship related memes, some angsty, some not. They do not necessarily need to be romantic, many work for platonic ships as well! Obviously substitute words as necessary and let your creativity free, lovelies- Xo ❤❤❤
"What happened yesterday was a mistake."
"What were you guys really talking about?"
"I think it's all weird, don't you think?"
"I'm adjusting."
"Did my mom/dad/sibling apologize to you yet?
"What are you doing here? "I'm still your emergency contact."
"I want it to be perfect because it's you."
"I don't do pillow-talk."
"Don't you think we're moving too fast?"
"We need to leave now unless you want my sister/brother/roommate privy to our date."
"I feel like our souls are connected."
"This is about our love, who cares about the rest?"
"Why are you giving up on us? What changed?"
"Don't look at me like that."
"Are you kidding me? Napping together is absolutely a date."
"Why don't I just give you a key? Then you won't have to wait for me anymore."
"We really shouldn't be doing this back-and-forth thing anymore."
"Tell me everything, how did it go?"
"I'll pick you up at 7, be ready this time!"

Truly so much to do
I can't wait till we order me a new desk. One of the things I'm most excited for, I want to get a tabletop easel thing. It's gonna make everything eeeeeeaaaaaaaassssssyyyyyyy and amazing.
I got some of the outline written today. Not as much as I meant to. I've been experimenting with slow cooker rice, but I'm done with that nonsense because no matter what I do--rinse the rice thoroughly, rinse the rice once, stir it every half hour or stir it never--the rice always comes out gooey and gross.
I even tried a "save"--that barely worked. So fuck it. I'm probably going to run over to the grocery store tomorrow for some chicken, cream of cheddar, broccoli, and I'll just turn the shitty failed rice into casserole. Slow cook the rice all day and have casserole for dinner.
I accidentally ended up semi-prepping like five meals--I made fish today because I thought I'd make successful rice. I pulled down some beef for faux wellington. The rice failed, so I need to salvage it. I think what I'll end up doing is, first, buy some gallon freezer bags; second, just make excessive rice; and third, freeze it for later.
And when we run out of "normal" rice, I'm just going to buy instant rice. Fuck all this cooking rice struggle and drama.
So instead of writing all day, I spent about half the day just fucking with rice.
I should show you guys my writing board before it gets too full. It's really satisfying to finish writing a bullet point of my outline, or a vignette, and pin it up there. However, I'm definitely and quickly going to run out of pins, even if I do pin together different versions of the same scene, or if I pin together consecutive scenes. Just this one document has over 25,000 words, and I have....hmmm four or five documents? I wonder if I shouldn't merge all the documents into one....... I'm trying, of course, to eliminate all these extra documents, get everything organized and cohesive, in one place where it's easier for me to handle what I've got and make sense of what I don't.
I know as I've gotten further and further away from the story, I've forgotten a lot of what I wanted to keep, since it's already written down somewhere that I'll consistently have access to, year after year, device after device. It'll be interesting to take, for example, all of my outlines and merge them, see what I've forgotten and what I'm going to add and keep. I almost--now that I've got visual motivation--want to just keep writing for a while. My graphic novel queue will take care of itself for several weeks, and even after that, I still have material that I can clean up and get posted in just a few days, to buy a few more weeks.
Plus, I feel like having a really clear path may motivate me even further. I can even start thumbnailing on sticky notes or tear off individual sketchbook pages for the board.
