devastated myself with thoughts of arthur, gwen and merlin raising a little girl as heir to the throne. you know gwen would be so excited when she met her, and she'd be such a good mother i literally can't think about it too much or i'll die but she'd teach her how to be kind and compassionate but never ever take anyone's shit. and arthur. well arthur's scared at first because he doesn't really get girls (or that's what he hides behind when actually he's just terrified he doesn't know how to be a father) like morgana could swordfight but she was still what he considered "girly", so what does that mean? but he loves her desperately, she's his pride and joy, so of course he gets the blacksmith to make her a little sword for her tiny hands and starts teaching her how to fight. maybe it ends in silly games half the time because she's just a kid and arthur never really got to be one but it's fun and it's perfect and it's happy. merlin watches from the sidelines fond and proud and so full of love he can barely breathe with it. when she gets a little older arthur starts letting her train with the knights so she can learn different fighting styles and they all let her win when she starts looking tired and they die very dramatic deaths just to make her giggle. and merlin. merlin would quite literally make mountains fall to make that little girl happy. he performs every trick she asks and takes her to meet aithusa at least once a week and maybe even teaches her a spell or two. and arthur watches this from the sidelines so fond and proud and full of love that he aches and he wonders how he ever thought this was evil - how he ever thought merlin wasn't this man who would conjure butterflies with the snap of his fingers just to see a little girl smile. and do you see it? how the power throuple of camelot becomes The parenting unit of all time?

The Wolf and The Witch
Part 1/?
Steve knows better than to enter the Witchwood. He’d been warned from the time he was a child, back before the wolf, that it was home to its namesake. And not just any witch, a dangerous one. One that had killed an entire hunting party, unprompted, with the flick of a finger. None who have entered those woods since have ever returned.
Steve knows better than to enter the Witchwood, but he doesn’t have a choice. Robin is slumped over his back, hands clenched tightly in his fur, clinging desperately to consciousness. He can feel her blood, warm and sticky, matting the fur of his back. His own gait is slowed, every step jolting the silver teeth digging into his right hind leg and sending sharp pain shooting through him. He’s not sure how much longer he can run, and he can hear them - the bloodthirsty cries of the townsfolk dead set on his murder.
They had been found out. So many cycles of living in this town, living among its residents as a friend and neighbour, and still they’ve all turned on him. Of all the times for it to happen, too. It was the moon he had agreed to make Robin a wolf. She had already been weakened from the wolf taking hold when they had been attacked, the silver already a weakness but her body not yet given over to the strength of the wolf.
Steve wishes he could take her to Nancy, knows Nancy would help despite everything, but the townspeople have blocked them off, funneled him in his blind panic. His only hope is to lose them is the wood, but even then he might lose Robin to his own fumbling medical knowledge.
But first, he has to get away from their pursuers. Steeling himself with a deep breath, Steve enters the Witchwood.
————————————————————————
Eddie is no stranger to people trying to do him harm. It’s been a constant in his life from the time he was a child, long before his gifts had awakened. And one that had- well. It’s been a constant of his life, sure as the cycle of the moon and sun. So he notices the prickle of someone entering the woods, but he gives it no regard. It happens a few times a year, that someone gets it into their heads that they will be the one to kill “The Witch of the Woods”. None ever even make it to him, losing themselves in the enchanted trees.
These trees are older than him, and their magic is their own. They like him and welcome him among them, but otherwise are hostile to outsiders. In the beginning, he had tried to help those who became lost in the woods, but those days have long since passed. Despite what his uncle says about his soft heart, Eddie’s become bitter and jaded and he no longer pays any mind to those who venture into the woods.
But this time, something is different. Eddie feels the disturbance of someone crossing into the forest, feels the shift of magic as the forest warps around them, and it’s… different. The ways and paths of the trees are second nature to him, he can tell by the shimmer of magic against his skin which paths have been revealed and which hidden away and this…
The forest is being lenient, gentle. The interlopers are shown the ways to peaceful places, soft and danger-free. Eddie can recall only a few times that the forest has been kind to intruders, and it has almost exclusively been to children.
So he’s more than curious already when he feels the buzz of more people crossing the boundary into the woods. A lot more. And Eddie realizes that this hunt is not for him.
The trees are not so kind this time, opening its twists and turns like a maze, a trap for anyone foolish enough not to turn back immediately. They don’t, of course. They never do. Eddie pays them no mind, drawn instead by curiosity to the two that are being pursued.
He steps between the trees, slipping into a space that’s folded away between reality, picking his way with ease through paths that are there and paths that are not until he emerges at the edge of a small clearing, moonlit and mossy. Theres a tiny spring-fed pond and there, limping toward it, is a wolf. It’s huge, the size of a small bear, with a strong frame and thick russet fur.
It notices him at the same time as he notices it, and it’s massive head swings to face him, teeth already bared in a snarl. It’s hackles raise, and it turns fully, squaring up, a threatening growl rumbling across the little clearing to him.
Eddie steps back, already gathering his power until it glows around him with dark energy, because this is no normal wolf. Even without the size and the silver trap clamped around its leg giving it away, he can see it in its eyes, feel in its presence that this is something more.
He recalls his childhood, the warning tales at his mother’s knee. He remebers later, freshly chased out of town and taken in by his uncle, watching as the old man leafed through his ancient book and warned Eddie that he wasn’t the only dangerous thing in the wilds. Eddie has no doubt that he’s come across one of those dangerous things now. He looks at the wolf and knows exactly what he’s seeing.
A werewolf.

i could KILL him for this. motherfucker's every interaction with children has him being, if not nice, then at minimum kind and forgiving and genuinely invested in their wellbeing.
he asks crying kids what's the matter, he's afraid to hold a baby because he's worried he'll drop it, he goes after people who are mean to kids without a second thought. his whole mentorship with timothy hunter is him trying to do right by that kid no matter how he feels about it at the time. man would be the most loving dad in the world but because of his own awful goddamn father and the ways he thinks he takes after thomas, he doesn't think that's true. i hate.

You are drawing near to something that marks the end of a journey or an era. You may have many accomplishments that have lined your path, but there is a strange emptiness that fills you when you look backwards upon it, as if you have all the pieces but they are not coming together. What is missing? Do you feel connected to what you're doing? Do you feel connected to others? What alienates you from feeling complete? From feeling whole?

Being in fandoms where the characters are clearly based on other pieces of media/famous figures is so much fun because then some of my ships look like this:
Parentified Goldilocks who is also The Beast x Avoidance attachment Beauty who is ALSO also The Beast, one of my fav moments with them is when they off the Minotaur together who is ALSO also also The Beast
Little Red Riding Hood if she was also the Wolf and has galloons of repressed trauma x Snow White but she’s heavily knight coded and the poster child of daddy issues
Edgar Allen Poe’s Lenore x Annabel Lee but they’re in gay ghost love
The poem ‘The Last Rose of Summer’ x Odin’s raven Huginn but they’re exes still in love in a milf yuri divorce that ends super mega tragically and domino effects mommy issues out the ass
Historical figures Cleopatra x Frida Kahlo with the most chef’s kiss height difference you’ve ever seen
A polycule with Joan of Arc x Mulan x Thor x Achilles but they’re all genderbent/trans
The Velveteen Rabbit x fashion icon Coco Chanel if she was a lesbian with a gun
Frankenstein’s monster x a different sapphic Cleopatra bc baby gays <3333
Okay okay that black cat from Poe’s, well, The Black Cat x Poe’s Eulalie is cute yes
But I actually really REALLY love Poe’s Eulalie x Poe’s Berenice bc they’re “me and the bad bitch I pulled by being autistic” personified
The Snow Queen with mega daddy issues x Robin Hood if he was a socialist lesbian I SAIDDDD ITTTT
Imma say it historical figures JFK x Confucius were adorable bros
Aesop’s Fisherman x Odin’s other bird Munin you will always be famous my tragic old man yaoi <////3
Y’all will really have to hear me out here when I say Cinderella if she fucken snapped x ice cream Mad Hatter because couples who are terrible to each other but in a “only I’m allowed to be a horrid to them” way can be so funny
And I could go o n fer ages but the point is imagine explaining these ships to someone like 30 years ago with ZERO context their heads would explode and it’d be so funny

I would love, even if its just its just brief summaries, to know the different thoughts going through bills head throughout the last smut. (mainly when he got the text and when dipper starts just blurting out thoughts and ideas bc i think those moments would be fun to see)
Imagine you're having the shittiest day at work. You're gritting your teeth and hanging onto it by your fingernails, knowing that eventually dealing with this absolutely idiotic, waffling, overstuffed, condescending dipshit of a client will be done with, you'll charge him out the nose for your services - which will probably be, like a hundred dollars, the way this is going! What bullshit. At least afterwards, you can collapse onto the bed and complain to your spouse about it. Which you have been doing, actually, waiting for a decent excuse to bail or check out early.
Then you get a text. And it's your partner saying they got you a brand new console, your favorite pizza - Oh! And a million bucks in untraceable cash - but you might have to kick your shitty client in the nuts so hard his eyes pop out. Does that sound... okay? No pressure or anything.
The reason Bill was a minute later than expected is because even he needed a moment. It was the sheer whiplash from going from Shit to Fucking Amazing.
#answers#Bill went from full on eeueuughhh about his day to practically having hearts floating around him#Perhaps literally depending on the magic situation in the place he was in#In my head Bill was 'hired' by a (shitty) villain and he got out of it by doing a quick betrayal and demanding to be cast out by the 'heros#“I Got THIS to get back to!! You think I wanna keep him waiting???”#He already hovers in his normal triangle form but this man was practically floating with delight heading back to Dipper#A graph of Bill's mood would start out super low then spike sharply at the pic#It then stays super high up with more spikes during all the shenanigans#After the smut they likely get cleaned up. Cuddle. And talk shit about idiots they've had to deal with#Bill Cipher has gone from doing his evil deeds and playing piano to an empty bedroom while raiding his own bar for distraction#To coming home to someone who'll listen to him bitch about his day and absolutely bicker with him about it#Calling him the worst thing in the universe. A scourge upon reality.#The most clever awful bastard. How *dare* he be handsome that's a crime -and frankly Dipper basically did it for him so he can't take credi#And sometimes even saying 'yeah you didn't *entirely* deserve to be screwed over that way. I could have done that *way* better.'#While Bill rests his head in his lap. Having someone listen to him ramble while he gets his hair played with. Lots of really good kisses#Warm. Close. Grossly domestic. But hey! Even *sex* can seem gross if you phrase it weird and *that's* a normal demonic pleasure#Sometimes fun things are just fuckin' FUN y'know?? Even if this one seems weird to other demons#It's. Nice. REALLY nice.#There's absolute no goddamn way he's going back to NOT having this#Even death won't pry it out of his greedy little mitts

What if Desmond, Ezio, Edward, Connor, and Haythem ended up in the witcher universe where they meet Geralt?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zswe2lSkID4&pp=ygUJV2l0Y2hlciAz
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5F6EJmTk80g&pp=ygURV2l0Y2hlciAzIGdlcmFsdCA%3D
Okay, since the two youtube links (especially the first part) focus more on the first part of Witcher 3, that’s where we’ll focus the setup of this idea.
So we’ll throw them in White Orchard, the first ‘area’ of the game. And this is a world currently embroiled in war and conquest, not a pretty sight, that’s for sure. Their main priority would be to find a way to get back to their world because those monsters and all these unfamiliar names? Yup, definitely not their world.
For this scenario, let’s say we’ll take each of them during the ‘epilogue’ of their story. For Desmond, that’s when he’s just died after saving the world. For Ezio, it has to be after he finds Altaïr’s Library (maybe even after he retires from the mentor role). For Edward, it will be around the time of the epilogue showing him and his children in the theatre. Ratonhnhaké:ton’s would be after finding out his tribe had left without telling him anything. As for Haytham… Well, Haytham would be taken just after he dies.
So there’s gonna be pure awkwardness between Haytham and Ratonhnhaké:ton, not to mention that he doesn’t necessarily lie and say that he’s actually an Assassin to his own father but he definitely didn’t tell him outright that he’s a Templar or correct his assumption.
Desmond and Ratonhnhaké:ton notice it right away and they both kept quiet for different reasons. Ratonhnhaké:ton believes that the truth should come from Haytham and not anybody else. Desmond says nothing because he’s following Ratonhnhaké:ton’s lead.
So, they’re stranded in an unknown place and, strangely they can understand each other and the other people they talk to (who thinks they’re traveling mercenaries of all things). According to Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton, they hear everyone speaking their native language (not English) while Desmond and Haytham hear English instead.
So something definitely fishy is going on, that’s for sure. For now, they need to stay together and keep their heads down while looking for information.
Ezio is their de-facto leader with Desmond serving more of a second-in-command role. Funnily enough, Desmond doesn’t notice it as all he’s doing (in his eyes) is keeping everyone from doing dumb things (and he’s weirded out by the fact that he understands Edward’s personality so easily even when he shouldn’t know him at all). Ratonhnhaké:ton mostly keeps to himself but follows Ezio’s orders whenever he must. He only speaks up when he believes he has something worthwhile to say but he’s closer to Desmond than to anyone else, mostly because he knows Desmond understands him without him trying to ‘speak up’ as Haytham likes to say. Edward knows Haytham is hiding something but he’s waiting for his son to say it so he doesn’t push. He tries to connect with Ratonhnhaké:ton as well but mostly, he sticks by Haytham because he can feel the slight animosity between Haytham and Ratonhnhaké:ton (and Desmond who is in Ratonhnhaké:ton’s corner and who is also questioning why Haytham is with them and not… someone worthier in Desmond’s eyes). Haytham plays the devil’s advocate and keeps them focused on their goal of finding a way out even though the urge to help and build their own Brotherhood as a way to help the people of this wartorn land was definitely building on the surface, no matter how much Haytham tries to snuff it out.
By the time Geralt and Vesemir reached White Orchard, Haytham had given up and they have a budding Brotherhood already set up. The inn the two witchers go to is actually the first bureau they built and Desmond serves as the ‘bartender’ (with Edward playing the owner). Geralt and Vesemir are surprised by how polite everyone was but they both know something is wrong.
Something is definitely strange and they’re not sure what it is yet.
So the inn they go to is witcher-friendly and they learn about how the griffin that attacked them will ‘be taken care of’.
“So there’s a witcher here already?” Geralt asked curiously.
Desmond kept smiling politely as he replied vaguely, “We deal with our own problems.”
And that only makes Geralt wary because a lot of people die when they deal with problems outside of their ‘range’.
Geralt goes to fight the Griffin still, especially after receiving the ‘request’ from the Nilfgaardians. During his fight, a group of five hooded figures helps him out and Geralt is impressed by their coordination. It was clear that three of them were more inexperienced but the other two could definitely handle their own.
Together, they all defeat the griffin and Geralt tries to find out who they are. The two most experienced of the group talk to him, telling him about how they were simply a band of ‘samaritans’ and they don’t mind if Geralt takes the head as a trophy as long as they can share what they can harvest from the carcass.
Geralt knows they’re hiding something and tries to get it out of them by using Axii but then he feels something block him. It wasn’t just that his Axii was too weak… something about these two hooded figures blocked Axii specifically.
Another curiosity that makes Geralt wary.
Anyway, the thing with the Nilfgaardians happened as it did in the game and Geralt said nothing about the hooded figures, although he has heard the whispers of the Nilfgaardians guards talking about how they were being attacked by hooded figures, taking their supplies and such. They seem to believe they’re a band of rebels, and might even be remnants of the Temerian army with how organized and strategic the attacks were.
Geralt returns to White Orchards to tell Vesemir what he found out but stops when he recognizes one of the patrons. He sits on the other side of that person and asks him straight out if he’s the leader of the rebel army making the Nilfgaardians’ life miserable.
Ezio (who had been with Ratonhnhaké:ton to assist and gauge their recruits’ skills in the Griffin fight) simply smiles and asks Geralt if he knows how to play Gwent. Geralt tries to push the issue and Ezio tells him he’d talk if they play.
And that is how Geralt learned how to play Gwent in this one because Gwent is an integral part of Witcher lore, damn it.
And Ezio does talk. Not about everything, of course, but enough for Geralt to understand that they’re not necessarily an army nor are they truly allied with the Temerian army at all, but they’re more… on the side of the people.
Their conversation is cut when they hear that Nilfgaardians are outside and they’re looking for the Witchers and…
The ‘Prophet’.
Geralt goes outside to find out what’s the problem now while Ezio and Desmond both looked at one another because only a few people know that Ezio was Desmond’s Prophet and all those people shouldn’t be in this world. Not even the Kenways know about Ezio’s title as the prophet.
They don’t go outside, of course, that would be too risky.
Until Desmond saw the man next to a woman with black hair and purple eyes currently talking to Geralt.
Before Ezio could stop him, Desmond opened the inn doors loudly and ran outside as he shouts the name of the man next to Yennefer of Vengerberg.
“Altaïr!”
.
… you might have excluded Altaïr in the ask, nonny, but it’s me. I’ll include him anyway XD
.
Unorganized Notes:
So this could be a case of more Assassin protagonists getting booted into Witcher 3 but not in the same place as Desmond and the others or Altaïr could have been a special case and got booted near Yennefer for some reason.
Altaïr and Yennefer do not necessarily get along. They’re both stubborn and, really, just allying with the Nilfgaardians for a bit irritated Altaïr.
Unfortunately for him, he and Yennefer needed to ally up while he looks for people ‘like him’ because he holds an important piece of information.
The Wild Hunt is looking not just for Ciri but for someone else. They’re hunting Altaïr because they say he ‘knows’ who they’re looking for. They share the same stench after all.
So it’s more of the enemy of my enemy is my ally deal between him and Yennefer.
Altaïr believes it’s Ezio, the prophet, that the Wild Hunt wants. Ezio believes it’s Desmond they want because why would they want the prophet when the chosen one (which sounds like what this ‘Ciri’ is as well) is with them as well?
This does end with Altaïr joining Desmond and the others and they decide to leave White Orchards after they got chased by the Wild Hunt.
They start building bureaus all over while keeping hidden from the Wild Hunts so they see Geralt from time to time, acting more like reoccurring NPCs in Geralt’s story.
Altaïr stole a few of Yennefer’s magic books. Yennefer knows and made sure Altaïr could only take the ones she didn’t mind losing. Mostly the basic spellbook and grimoires and maybe a copy of bestiaries and such.
Fuck it, Altaïr learns magic. He’s weirdly good at it. The others also learn a bit of magic with varying degrees of success and ease. Desmond is good at it as well but everyone believes it’s because Desmond is good at anything he does while Desmond believes it’s because of his connection to Altaïr (the Bleeding Effect). It’s not.

Do you think there's toxic trait in aquakane's relationship? I keep seeing people saying that they are toxic and unhealthy for each other...
Honestly...? I guess it depends on people's takes on what constitutes a toxic relationship, but when I see Aqua and Akane, I see two people genuinely trying to do right by each other to the best of their capabilities.
Aqua is a broken man reborn into a broken teenager, he is toxic to himself because he thinks he doesn't deserve happiness and he closes himself off, hiding his true self behind a veil of lies. Akane is a brilliant girl who quite literally thought acting was the only thing she was good at. She is much better off than Aqua in the mental-health department by now, but she is painfully unaware of her own worth; a clear example of this is the way she is willing to let herself be "used" by Aqua as long as the choice is hers.
These personal issues have consequences, of course. Aqua does lie and manipulate those around him—but he never manages to do this to Akane. Whenever he thinks he is hiding something, Akane figures it out and plays along not because he has manipulated her into it, but by choice. The one exception was the GPS tracker, but Aqua set this up at a time when his intentions towards Akane were less than pure. It doesn't define their relationship. At the contrary, it shows what their relationship could have been like, because the contrast Aka draws is very clear: Aqua originally meant for the GPS to allow him to use Akane as a tool, but in reality it allows him to save Akane's life.
Meanwhile, Akane is good at drawing boundaries when she considers that they need to be drawn (telling Aqua that he needs to decide for himself and that they can't be codependent on each other, pointing out how wrong it was to place a GPS on her and that their relationship was supposed to be one between equals), but she isn't very good at putting herself first, so some of her boundaries are kind of there more for Aqua's sake than her own. Akane was willing to go meet Kamiki, without hesitation, if it meant ensuring Aqua's happiness; she knew she could be in danger, but protecting Aqua mattered more to her than her own safety.
And I think that's when their issue lies, actually. Because I don't think Akane stopped to think that if something were to happen to her, Aqua would break. Likewise, Aqua cut ties with Akane to keep her safe, but he didn't stop to think that Akane won't be able to be happy if he sacrifices himself for his revenge.
They're both self-sacrificial people to a fault. They both underestimate just how much they matter to each other—and to those around them, for that matter.
So yeah, personally I can't bring myself to see their relationship in and of itself as toxic. It had the ingredients to be toxic, but when they were together, they genuinely supported each other, listened to each other, comforted each other and made each other happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, if people want a perfectly healthy, well-adjusted relationship, Aqua needs to both, come to terms with his trauma and get his revenge out of his system. It'd also be nice if Akane realizes that she can't set herself on fire to keep other people warm.
But these are issues that Aqua would have with anyone, actually. If anything, Akane being able to read him so well is what circumvented Aqua's penchant for lying and being manipulative. Lol.

Hi! I just read your post about Mateo recently. If I may, can you give me any specific instances in the narrative of the show where Mateo isn’t called out as heavily as they should have? I’m just curious?
During the Shuriki returns arc in particular, Mateo makes some pretty glaring mistakes that I feel like he should've gotten much more flack for (and based on what we see elsewhere in canon, I feel pretty confident that if Gabe, Naomi, Isa, or Esteban at least --and possibly even Elena-- had made these mistakes, they wouldn't have been swept under the rug nearly as quickly as they were for Mateo).
While it's unfair to completely blame Mateo for Carla's manipulating him during the "Rita" arc, I feel like it's reasonable to hold him a *bit* accountable. He did after all blab highly confidential information (on more than one occasion) to try and impress a pretty girl with how clever and important he was. (Something tells me that if any of the others had done likewise, they would've been called out for it. But because it's "beloved" Mateo, we don't even get "wait, you told Rita how to get into your workshop? And you've known her for only a few weeks? What were you thinking, Mateo?") Moreover, he never even apologizes for this or promises to do better/be more careful with such important, sensitive information in the future.
Even more aggravating is his behavior in "The Scepter of Night." Mateo is so eager to play the hero and claim all the glory for himself that he twice (!) disobeys a direct order/abandons the plan and goes looking for the scepter piece on his own. This directly leads to Fiero and Victor finding the scepter piece and (temporarily) stealing it. And it's really only due to luck and very conveniently-timed infighting amongst Shuriki's allies that Elena and co. are able to get the scepter piece back. While Mateo does receive some (brief) criticism, it's nowhere near the level that it should be.
Also noteworthy Elena doesn't really get particularly "mad" at him (especially considering how angry we see her get at other characters even for more minor things) . She's not truly, actually angry at Mateo (and Gabe and Naomi are only a bit angrier); she's just a little frustrated and disappointed at him in the moment. And apart from a (very short) little "do better next time" speech, Mateo doesn't face any real consequences or lingering resentment unlike other characters who do.
When Isa obeys direct orders in "Sister of Invention," she has to face consequences (Elena grounding her). Similarly, Elena holds a grudge against Esteban for days (if not weeks) after he interfered with the Feast of Friendship (a much lower stakes mistake than Mateo's imo). Moreover, it's possible to interpret Esteban's staying behind in Avalor when the others go to see the Norberg Lights as a punishment (either self-inflicted or imposed by Elena) for his actions in the previous episode.
In contrast, Mateo just gets a brief "I expected better from you" speech from Elena and Gabe jokingly assigning him push-ups as punishment (which he immediately takes back when Mateo tries to do them). I'll give Mateo a little bit of credit for actually apologizing this time (which he doesn't always do). But it's still frustrating that everyone is so ready to forgive and forget Mateo's missteps immediately while this same courtesy is seldom shown to others.
I think it's worth directly comparing a few Mateo-centric episodes with a few more similar ones that focus on other characters so that we can see how there does seem to be a noted narrative bias in his favor compared to the others.
Let's start with two "feeling kind of insecure" episodes: "Spellbound" for Mateo vs. "Naomi Knows Best" for Naomi. In the former, Mateo expresses doubt that he's capable of rising to the occasion as royal wizard. No one (except Gabe and he gets over it by the end of the episode) blames him for not having reached his full level of confidence and potential right away and not being able to immediately solve the problem. And Elena in particular (and by extension the narrative) gives him so much validation and support. Whereas in "Naomi Knows Best" (and to a lesser extent "Finders Leapers" and the "Carla-as-Rita" arc as well) the narrative "punishes" Naomi for her feelings of self-doubt. We're told that *if only* Naomi had trusted her gut instincts and stood her ground right away, Elena and co would not fallen right into the trap and that Naomi needs to screw her head back on straight and embrace confidence ASAP to fix her mistake.
When Mateo feels insecure, the narrative gives him every reassurance about how capable and special he is, that he can learn at his own pace, and his insecurity isn't really such a problem after all. When Naomi feels insecure, the narrative encourages her to get over her doubts as quickly as possible because unlike with Mateo, there's "no time" for her to wallow in self-doubt and actually the fact that she even had said doubt in the first place is what "caused" the disaster.
On a slightly different note, Naomi is also called out for taking a little free, fun time for herself in "The Last Laugh" when the group needs her, and yet somehow I have a feeling that Mateo would've been allowed to take a day off if he wanted without any protest. He complains about long hours in "Movin' on Up" and Elena gives him the big royal wizard's chambers for him to relax and unwind in. Naomi asks for one (1) day off to spend with her childhood friend for her birthday , and suddenly it's big drama. (And at the time, Naomi asked for said day off, all Elena needed from her was help doing paperwork. The Team Ash stuff came up unexpectedly.)
Similarly whenever Gabe and Mateo get their little rivalry on ("Spellbound," "Party of a Lifetime," "Captain Mateo" and a few other examples) , the narrative either presents them as equally at fault or Mateo as the only one in the right.
When Gabe brings in Bronzino to train the Royal Guards in magic, it's specifically because Mateo failed to explain how and why he was training the guards in the way he was. If he'd just explained how they were going apply the seemingly basic exercise they were doing to real magic, Gabe likely would've allowed Mateo to continue the training at his own pace.
(Also like. it's super hypocritical imo for Mateo to get annoyed at Gabe feeling impatient/impulsive about their apparent-lack-of progress when Mateo himself is easily the second most impulsive character in the show after Elena.) Mateo feels entitled to keep important information to himself (or blab it to a cute girl he barely knows) even when its no one else's best interest. He's only okay with being "cautious and patient" when he specifically is the one setting the pace. And yet, Gabe is the only one who is called out for his behavior in this episode--even though he might not have acted as he did if only Mateo had trusted him and the guards with an explanation in the first place.
And then there's just a few other "dude not cool" little moments that never really get acknowledged/Mateo never apologizes for. For instance, there a two low-key terrifying Mateo moments in "Captain Mateo" that are not only not acknowledged but are also framed in context as Mateo being just "so funny and quirky". Near the end of "Should be in Charge," Mateo magically gags Gabe so he can't protest anymore about Mateo taking over as leader of the mission. And this is after having already enchanted one of the stationary suits of armor to come to life and fight Gabe. (Gabe admittedly does lightly shove Mateo out of the way during his parts of the song, but that's still a far cry from literally drawing a sword on Mateo as Mateo does via magic to Gabe.)
It's played for laughs (The Grand Council is just smiling happily in the background throughout the scene which is so yikes), so it's easy to overlook what's actually happening. Frankly, it's pretty horrifying that Mateo's natural instinct upon his experience/authority being questioned is to literally attack and then silence. (And attack and silence someone who is supposed to be one of his best friends and closest allies at that!)
Rather than the narrative acknowledging that maybe it's a bad idea to immediately grant power to someone to someone who is so retaliatory against fairly minor criticism, the Grand Council just gives Mateo exactly what he wants and doesn't even offer a "maybe next time, let's not gag or attack our friends, okay?" alongside it. I mean sure Mateo does step down as captain at the end of the episode, but it's very specifically presented as his and Gabe's voluntary choice and not an order from Elena/the Council.
#elena of avalor#eoa salt#it's not mateo that bothers me so much; it's the double standard that nearly every other character is held to while he is not#gabe is the only one who ever seems to call mateo out on his shit regularly#and most of the time; it's framed as petty jealousy and/or gabe being unreasonable#even when gabe is the one talking sense#i feel like i've heard that mateo is one of the writers' faves and dang does it SHOW!#we were owed a dark mateo arc tbh#mateo thinks he's the next alacazar but I don' think it would be all that hard to turn him into the next fiero instead#it writes itself and honestly i would've liked him more that way#instead of just presenting him is as the specialest; cutest; quirkiest magical boy instead#let him go dark for a short time before realizing his mistakes and then have to work hard for everyone's forgiveness#esteban has to sacrifice his life in order to earn forgiveness for an (admittedly huge) mistake he made 40+ years ago#yet it's apparently too much for mateo to get more than the mildest rebuke over a (also big) mistake he made less than an hour ago?#also like whenever esteban or gabe are really proud/cocky or naomi gets single-episode acquired situational narcissism in “my fair naomi”#the narrative absolutely punishes them for it#whereas mateo is free to be as over-confident and braggy and vain as he wants and seldom gets called out on it#because i guess he's genuinely as 'cool and special' as he claims so he deserves the right to brag?#whereas the others' apparently aren't and don't?#anti mateo de alva

bg3 au where tav uses a magical artifact to travel back in time every time they make a mistake that hurts one of the party members (and they come back as a different race/class every time so they never get skilled enough to keep from fucking up entirely). one of the companions starts to regain some memories from previous loops and notices that tav has been choosing them every time

Is torial and asgore still together in the fell!handplates au? Is that the divergence from Canon? that instead of torial disagreeing with asgore about war and leaving she instead agreed and encouraged vengeance for their children?
If that is the case who do you think ends up living in the ruins? I know what probably happened with gaster but if he chooses to leave with the boys would he live In the ruins as an escape?
Haha, that was what I thought as well! I don't really know much about fanon-agreed-upon Fellplates tbqh, but when it came up in conversation, we talked about how since they're both on the same page vis a vis killing humans, they probably would still be together haha - or that Toriel still lives in the Ruins and only comes out to beat up Gaster lol
Personally I like her being in the castle with Asgore, murder power couple <3 And she'd have very direct access to bully Gaster! I see this as an absolute win
I'm not sure, Gaster escaping with the boys isn't something I'd considered before :0 I think the Ghosts definitely still hang around the Ruins, so I don't know how dangerous it would be for them to live there if they were hostile. There's also something? weird? about Fell!Mercyplates that I can't quite put my finger on haha
And remember, this is still Zarla's AU! I just it like a bunch ♥
