sorry i dont have anyone to talk to this about lol so it's going in your inbox but i'm in my mid-20s and only now for the first time in my life have i changed my mind on rpf specifically because of phanfic. i'm a returning phannie but like.... the last time i watched them was all the way back in 2012. and was very ani-rpf then and have continued to be through the years. and i think in a lot of cases i maintain that position. but after falling back in love with dnp and the phandom and caving into the urge to read some phanfic knowing that dnp themselves encourage and respect it im kind of shocked to find it's actually a really beautiful, metatextual, interactive creative outlet. i think youve talked a bit about how phanfic isnt really rpf to you and i kind of agree, because dan and phil to me are like.... an idea, a mythology, a narrative, that theyre aware of and have built as well as being aware that we're aware of. like the idea of dan and phil has been constructed by them and their fans hand in hand for over a decade. and i find that phanfic itself is very aware of this and exists to expand upon those ideas. lol. yeah that's it sorry for this ramble. i just find it surprising that something could change my mind on that in this day and age but it's been a very cool experience.

hello welcome youve come to the right place for this yap because i COMPLETELY understand you. like genuinely i am not this attached to any other "rpf" content like this? ok i had an egobang phase but honestly arin and danny have grown to share a similar but not exact same connection as dnp BUT I DIGRESS

but yeah i think a lot of it is due to the contrastive relationships between the brand of Dan and Phil™, their separate individual brands Daniel Howell and AmazingPhil (particularly dan), the Phanon dnp, and the actual real people dan and phil. i always go back to the fanfiction segment of tatinof but its just such a perfect example of what i mean. like, the entire idea to have a fanfic scene was ofc the real people's idea, and they used tropes they would see in the phanon to convey the audience interactive story, but at the same time had to keep it at least Somewhat appropriate for the Brand™ at the time being very pre-teen and teen focused. honestly idk how much you've gone back and watched of what you missed, but i would suggest doing that not just cuz theres some incredible stuff from those eras, but also seeing the intersection of the brand, fanon, and real people and when they split apart. you see it a lot especially in gaming videos imo where theyre unscripted, and once they got more comfortable in the gaming channel roles the energy shifting away from Brand but never too far... until ofc now where what even is their brand anymore just Chaos and Queerness i guess

OH ALSO go read some old fic and compare to newer ones like its not just that writing styles changed or that dnp themselves have changed, but the like. energy and intent put into fic has changed. i would say in the past it was more exploratory, putting dnp in AU's and imagines, or exploring what Could have happened. whereas now, yes ofc there are au's and fic for the purpose of exploring a concept or world, but also its a lot more introspective. exploring the inner world a bit more. idk i just thijk dnp are funny lil guys and they accidentally created some freaky lil creatures in a lab somewhere...

Have you read one fanfic on AO3 titled Re:Incarnated? One of the most interesting and new aspects of this story for me was Subaru being reborn as a half-elf by Satella. I bet no one has ever thought and acted on that idea before, but there are some questions that bother me, for example, in the canon series there are moments where Subaru relies on Earth's modern technology and knowledge to solve difficult problems, Subaru becomes a half-elf in the world of Rezero and that means that he forgets about his previous life on Earth in Japan, and then when faced with the same dilemma How should Subaru solve it? But I feel these questions should go wait for the original author's update to get answered.

I have to say that fic opened a new door for my inspiration, and I also started to think about creating my own Subaru's elf or half-elf AU, and even imagined a crossover with Lord of the Rings (after all, there's a ton of Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter crossover fics on AO3 and fanfiction) Like one day Subaru is for whatever reason transported to Middle-earth by Satella accidentally and experienced something there, and then how he was found and adopted by the elves of Middle-earth, I think it would be very interesting how the elves of Middle-earth were surprised to find out that elves existed in the Otherworld, Subaru looks similar to them but differs in a few places,and then how Subaru got along with the elves of Middle-earth, and how he explored his own existence and self-worth,how would it be different than the canon series (My half-elf Subaru's character isn't too far off from the canon) Sorry I'm getting a bit carried away, I'm an incorrigible and extreme fan of crossover tropes, I hope you don't mind too much!

yoo sorry i took so long to reply to this ask but please know im delighted to see any asks in my inbox and pfft its interesting hearing about what people are thinking + what they find interesting themselves!!!

as for re:incarnated - i read a chapter or two AGES ago, so i really dont remember much of the fic sadly T^T but ill consider possibly going back to it and reading through it!!! i have a very long to read list though so ill see pfft. and yeah i think that fic was def like. one of if not the first fic to have like half elf subaru as an idea be explored and it also shows a Different method of the isekai trope (being reincarnated!!!) which is fun i think!! plus like. putting "re:" in fic titles is EXTREMELY extremely common in this fandom which i suppose makes sense given. the source material is called rezero. granted most of the time (this is just my opinion btw and i mean no harm by it HAH), to me a lot of fics with "re:" in the title dont justify why the "re:" is actually there. "Re:Incarnated" though is an EXTREMELY good use of the "re" imo. i love the pun <3

yeah as for the fic material itself - i do think its interesting to like change small bits of characters. not in the sense that youre changing like the Core of who they are but i Like seeing experimentations with characters to see like small differences. which is why i love aus (such as the literal canon aus we get in the form of the What Ifs and such!!). if that makes sense. that probably makes more sense in my head HAH anyway!! i always feel like changing a characters backstory is SO HARD to pull off without completely changing a character bc it shapes them a lot. but half elf subaru is definitely an idea that can be done in an interesting way imo and im curious to see how re:incarnated handled that. i know ive considered like emisuba roleswaps myself where emilia was isekaied from earth and subarus a half elf which was kind of like re:incarnated but also not like re:incarnated bc subaru had a similar backstory still but now with a fantasy world background (and vice versa for emilia) aljdfdlsjf. but yeah like i like seeing people experiment with these characters and make fun aus!!! and for me personally its hard for me to find ones i like in this fandom + this fandom doesnt do all the usual fic-isms (like there is next to zero soulmate aus for example HAH) so. interesting i suppose!!

as for your own half elf subaru au - im delighted that you were inspired by re:incarnated and are having fun with your own au as well!! :D while i basically know next to nothing about lord of the rings, your idea definitely sounds interesting, though i dont usually read crossovers that arent fusion aus - but i REALLY love the idea of like two different elf species from two different worlds going ??? at each other HAH thats fun stuff!! and i definitely like when despite all the AU things going on, characters like subaru arent too far off from canon in all the big important ways (ie his whole personality) bc for me, its like - theres a reason why we love these characters and i love trying to capture the heart of who they are even with au things, you know? :o but hah yeah ive made my own crossovers though in private (not to post, just for fun pfft) and i hope you keep having fun about your own half elf subaru au bc it sounds very neat <3 ty for sharing anon!! :D

i do enjoy a slightly intoxicated kiss/hookup WHATEVER where the inhibitions are a little lowered so they're a little bit bolder and it's like omg what did we DO idk

I just wanted to say that I can proudly say flatline to be my absolute favorite fanfic of heeseung everrr!!! theres so many good ones here but it’ll never top flatline 😄the trope and the way it was written, the characteristics of the characters and all, its so well writtennn yumi, and I just really wanted to ask if you’re thinking about making a part two or an epilogue in the future? A confession: flatline was longer, but when I pasted the story here Tumblr kept saying I “passed the block limited” so I had to cut a few things, especially on the final parts 💔 Being honest, I feel like the plot is worth of a second part, there were so many things that could happen as Heeseung didn’t drop the street racing, they had just decided to go to Seoul together, Sunghoon is still out there fuming, and also Heeseung promised her a dream house in Hongcheon’s hills! But at the same time, I am so afraid of not coming up with a good story. You know when you watch a really good movie and then they come with a sequel, but it was just so terrible that you want to pretend just the first one exists? I am afraid it could happen 🥹 I wasn’t ready to let them go once I finished writing too! I kept telling my friend, Heeseung and the reader were too precious for me to put an end on it so soon

I can’t promise I will write a second part once I finish the rest of the series’ story, but a long epilogue could be! Just for me and you have a little bit more of this cute couple 😭

now i've wanted to share something with u i've discussed w my friend before. idk about you but i love love love angst and hurt/comfort. and i was thinking about an aki fanfic (because aki brainrot) like, y/n and aki are a couple that just broke up a few months ago but they still haven't gotten over each other!!! and then they both randomly meet again at a party and all the feelings resurface and they keep stealing glances at each other, but they're about to cry, it hurts so bad because they each think the other person is over them (and the fact other people are flirting with them doesn't help) !!! D: so then one of the two leaves, the other notices and follows and finds them locked in the janitors room (or whatever else ) crying, and they join them. and they have a long conversation about their feelings and past relationship. oh and then maybe they smash. anyways thoughts?? i love these types of fanfics idek what genre this is 😭😭 oh also.... if u want to write a fanfic like that..... i wouldn't complain... BUT U DONT HAVE TO OMG WRITE WJATEVER U WANT i enjoy everything (and if u happened to be inspired by this ofc change anything to u liking 😭) !! i might actually try to write this myself but idk yet!! hehe. god this is so long. also this is not a request i genuinely just wanna talk about this trope to someone... unless u want it to be a request... okay i'm joking. this is so long. I've had an exes to lovers type aki fanfic lingering in my brain for a while, it would be something like aki and the reader used to date when they were young adults, before aki left for tokyo to become a devil hunter. and then when they see each other again, neither of them got a chance to properly say goodbye, so there's a lot of unresolved feelings... and of course they'd be much older, so they'd discuss what's been going on in their lives since then (and inevitably start to date just like they did before)

smashing is definitely not a necessity... but I'm a sucker for some angsty sex between exes so.... I feel like I would end up including it even if I wasn't trying to LOL. rediscovering a new level of intimacy with one another.... showing the other person your most vulnerable side because they were the only person you ever trusted enough to show it to...... it's too good

I can't make any promises about what I will or won't write because I sort of just write things on a whim, and I have a lot of ideas, so all I can say is it is an idea I have, nothing is quite planned yet. but I like your idea a lot, if I start to write something like that, I'll look back at your ask to spur my brain 🙏💓 I might be able to work some of those ideas in! I really like the concept of the reader and aki crying together like that... just makes my heart go a little crazy

2022 Fic Year in Review

Total number of completed stories: 3

Total word count: for published fic, 22,576. the tua draft that i never got to finishing has somewhere around 10k words on it, there were a few random 1 and 2k drafts that are stuck in my google docs somewhere, and there’s a Lot of words in college applications and articles

Fandoms written in: bungou stray dogs, the umbrella academy, and daredevil!!

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? hoo boy a lot less. i expected college apps would have An Effect on how much fic i wrote, but Wow. it cut off me writing that one tua draft literally right in the middle of me writing it, and i have no idea if i’ll get anywhere near finishing it once im done applying to places.

What’s your own favorite story of the year? all that said, poetry au--aka hope is our four-letter word--came out this year, which was some of my best work. i love it a lot, and even though it didn’t see the same levels of success as my other bsd fics, it is by far my favorite.

Did you take any writing risks this year? i'm walking backward into my own myth was a fun one. i wouldnt exactly call it a risk, but the format and time jumbling was weird enough that i’m putting it under this category.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? write more?? i don’t have any drafts i’m in the middle of, but writing more for daredevil looks fun. i’d like to write some team red, but i don’t know if i have a solid enough grasp on either wade or peter’s characters to feel confident doing that

Most popular story of the year? hope is our four-letter word!! which, to be fair, is my longest and i put it out in january and my other fics were published in november and literally like an hour ago, so it makes sense.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: this year?? i think they’ve been pretty well appreciated. obviously, just breathe that moment down was published literally today, so i can’t really say anything about it. i wish hope got more attention, but it makes sense to me why it didn’t--it’s kind of an eclectic mix of tropes and is very soft and quiet and kind of unlike most of my bsd fics.

Most fun story to write: ohhhhh i dont know. hope was fun because i got to construct a lot of the world around chuuya and dazai, and i love the idea of where dazai is at that point in his life. he’s well enough to go to college, but everyone around him still worries, and he thinks about oda all the time and he kind of wants to die all the time, but he’s just starting to see light at the end of this tunnel. yosano in this verse is also just the best i love her so much.

but god. i’m walking backward into my own myth was SO fun. the tense changes and mess of five destroying time and trying to put it back together is just so fun to write, and the style was wonderful.

Most unintentionally telling story: none of them are unintentionally telling, but just breathe that moment down is certainly. telling. december is just Bad this year so sorry yall have to keep hearing me bitch about college apps but. yeah. Yeah!!!

Biggest disappointment: THE TUA DRAFT. oh my god i wanted to finish that So Bad and i feel bad because i’ve put out so many snippets but i never got the fic out. it was going to partner with a klaus-centric fic my best friend was making, but :(((( we both got caught up in our personal lives and college applications, so neither of us managed to finish. ah well. perhaps in the new year we’ll get back to it.

Biggest surprise: not necessarily a Good Surprise but god. oh god. the Great 2022 Writing Slump. it hit like a goddamn truck.

but!!! for good surprises, me getting into daredevil!! i’m scared for whatever the mcu is going to shit out next, but the show was a masterpiece and i think it’s high time i started reading the comics instead of putting misplaced trust in disney to have good writing, so i got some for christmas!!

i really liked that ship dynamics trend that was going on a few months or years ago (because im a sap and i like romance) but im especially happy it seems to have slowly morphed into a general appreciation for hyper-specific archetypes and tropes and character dynamics because there’s nothing i love more than talking about trends and patterns in narrative fiction

you only show up to angel's share to cry and whine. the cat's tail is usually better suited for people like you (people who much prefer the company of cats at bars than drunk knights), but the cat's tail doesn't have the person tortured to hear all of your wails: kaeya. perhaps its a bit awful that you dump it on him, but he set you up with your prior boyfriend.

it's only right that he gets to hear the fallout.

so, you sit down at the bar counter and, with teary eyes, ask the bartender for grape juice. the redheaded man is well-seasoned at the art of ignoring highly emotional customers, so he slides you a drink after you set the required mora on the table. kaeya sits down next to you as you begin to slump over with sadness. you're completely sober, weighed down only by the fact that 1. you were pathetic enough to date huffman 2. you got dumped by huffman rather than dumping him and 3. you're actually heartbroken that you are sad about huffman.

"didn't work out, huh?" kaeya says, taking a sip from his glass of wine.

you resist the urge to throttle him and instead smile sarcastically at him.

"what makes you think that?" you say.

"you really got dumped by huffman?" kaeya asks.

how humiliating, you think. "i didn't get dumped by huffman. i dumped him."

"that's a lie."

"no it's not."

you bicker back and forth with kaeya until he pauses midway to flag down the bartender, who walks over with a grimace at the sight of kaeya.

"another drink, o' lovely bartender?" kaeya asks, extending his glass to diluc, who reluctantly takes him. "diluc, i know how much you love gossip, and y/n here has some lovely news to share with you."

the bartender, whom you realize is none other than diluc ragnvindr, glances between you and kaeya. he doesn't seem like he cares about what you have to say, but kaeya looks at you with a shiteating grin on his face.

"if you tell him," kaeya interjects before you can refuse. "i'll buy you the rest of your drinks for the night."

shame flies out of the window as you turn your attention from kaeya to stare directly out of diluc. free drinks are free drinks. you'd get dumped by huffman a million times over if it meant a night of unlimited grape juice at kaeya's expense.

"hi," you quickly introduce yourself to diluc. "i got dumped by huffman."

your voice is deadpan. the news is pathetic. kaeya is looking expectantly at diluc. diluc is not responding, instead looking over at kaeya with an expression of boredom. kaeya shrugs.

"i tried," kaeya says, unbothered.

"alright! now that that's done," you say. at least you'd never have to show your face at this bar again and you'd never encounter this bartender again after revealing the most shameful thing that has ever happened to you. "i will have your most expensive drink. then you can dump it out, but charge kaeya for them anyways."

kaeya looks at you, unamused and you stick your tongue out at him teasingly. however, your oncoming bickering with kaeya is interrupted before it can even begin. from behind the counter, diluc ragnvindr does the one thing that patrons haven't heard him do in years: laugh.

you realize two things in this moment.

1. diluc ragnvindr is your soulmate.

2. you introduced yourself to your soulmate as the sorry loser who got dumped by huffman.

in your embarrassment, you laugh nervously, not realizing that it causes diluc to come to the same exact conclusion you just did.

I genuinely believe that if Deuce was in the leader role he wouldn't take shit from Ace, Grim, or Yuu (because at 14 he was running a gang of 30+ members) however, with this new change and Yuu being the leader he's more reluctant— he'll make a passing comment but thats about it.

He's Trey but with a more violent side (Floyd if he was trying to be a better person) is what I mean.

I fuck with Grim heavy but I'd def fight him over a pack of noodles because he's a lil food thief— Grim's (and, by proxy Yuu) development is very slow compared to Adeuce, no one really challenges him on being "A Great Magician" which I think ties into NRC and the entire student body all, secretly, wanting to be revered as well its more of a matter of who's overt and who isn't, who has the skill and potential, and who doesn't.

You catch my drift?

I also believe that Grim is somewhat enabled by the cast (yes, he gets teased but thats about it) especially Yuu, since they always clean up after him— Ace even has a voiceline telling Yuu that Grim has gotten himself in trouble (with a student or teacher)

Him being separated from Yuu after harming them allows growth— beans day event, when Cater mentions that Malleus would bring too much attention Grim says that he should be mindful as well.

Yuu is def Gon in the sense that they have Deuce to clean up after them, but also Killua in the sense that they clean up after Grim (and Adeuce in Chap 3)

An interesting dynamic if you've watched HxH.

Which is why I love their dynamic and I want to see how they grow!!!!

Def the best show of friends in twst considering Trey and Riddle, Azul and the Leeches, and Rook and Vil—I'd even say they're the healthiest friendship in NRC and Sebek, Jack, and Epel gravitate to that.

He sits up. The pain is blinding, but he grits his teeth against it, hands tight around the wound in his side. He looks around, really looks around, and it takes everything he has to keep from screaming. Nothing but woods on every side, trees swaying gently in a warm breeze, birds flittering from branch to branch. Fuck.

He falls back with a thump, and immediately regrets it, hissing in pain. Well, one thing's for sure. He's not in fucking Kansas anymore.

(Alternatively, Tommy gets gravely injured, and to save his life, Dream drop kicks him to a different server. Unfortunately for him, it has the opposite effect than what he was expecting.)

I’m thinking about my comfort m/f ship and know you like m/f ships and romance so I’m curious to hear your thoughts about the average looking guy with really hot girl trope. I love it but I get why people don’t like it. I think the thing is the guy in the relationship is usually a complete asshole and also you don’t often see the reverse

so it really depends on a lot for me like how is it handled bc i do love a good "beauty and the beast" but beast usually means more ugly personality than look

now obvi this is a very common trop particularly in romcoms but i have very specifc thoughts on how this works (let me know if you need any elaboration i could talk about this break down for ages, i didnt think about the movies used here tho just through a bunch together)

so what makes a romcom a romcom is a romantic storyline with comedic and lighthearted tones. chick flicks on the other hand are lighthearted with a female lead who usually very plucky and sweet

romcoms that aren't chick flicks very commonly have an uglier man than a chick flick romcom. like every adam sandler romcom with the exception of the wedding singer he was hot in that. its the hair.

anyways this is relevant to ME bc when the guy is like average at best with a really hot girl it feels very often to me that it means to appeal to men and that is the target audience. of course this is not always true i think a good xample of this is the hunchback of notre dame 2 which has the plot of a fanfic i would have read at the age of 12

overall i would say that the guy has to have something else going on to justify it bc there is always something about media trying to tell women they have to lower their standards which we don't tell women to do which is annoying. like im more annoyed by the general real world implications of this trope where we only cast absolute stunners for women but guys can be pretty average

justifying it doesnt even take much imo, parks and rec was really annoying about this w jerry and his hot wife where everyone was making theories about her having brain damage when hes just like. a really nice guy. i dont actually think he has to be super nice for the justification like he can be funny or talentated of just have some fucked up magnatism yknow. nice guy is media's way about it

cant think of any examples of this that i currently like tho sorry. im currently in my slutty man loving phase

first fav is @reptile-ruler , their febuwhump stuff is amazing and mishaps is REALLY good, tbh mishaps has a lot of tropes i usually dont like but reptile-ruler does them so well that the stuff i dont like about those tropes isnt really.... there

(for instance i hate zim assimilating into human culture because he just kinda ignores everything about him being irken and the authors tend to treat irk as some kind of Monolithic Badplace... but in mishaps while zim has assimilated he still feels a struggle and still has irken values... the ending of the unwanted visitors (which i wont spoil) is the culmination of that and its amazing)

also the drifters au fucks hard and its one of my fav aus

very close second is @depressed-zimothy! training days is, and i am not exaggerating, exactly what ive always wanted in a fanfic. the red and zim stuff is fucking stellar and there are so many nuances about the characters if u examine the text a little more... i should leave comments on it tbh

also catalyst is amazing and u can see my two essay comments explaining why right there on the fic so i wont repeat myself here (but read the fic first obvi)

firewall is part of @reynaruina‘s ponytail dib AU and it is honestly fucking stellar. i recommend this thing to everyone i know and in my opinion it is THE computer fic. genuinely everyone should read this, even if you dont want to read the rest of the au or even zadr at all. please computer is so good in it.

in the beginning note there’s a paragraph explaining the basics of the au so you can read with no prior knowledge of PT dib but ill do you one better: the immediate context for firewall is that there was a blackout at zim’s house, and zim and dib were finally starting to get it on with each other during it. computer fixed the lights and turned them back on, and dib saw his reflection in the (off) TV. he gets upset seeing himself and leaves, so zim is angry at computer. and that’s right where firewall starts

please read firewall. im on my knees begging. computer in firewall is fucking sublime and the perfect blend of irritated and dad. literally no other computer portrayal compares. firewall was, is, and always will be The Standard.

ersatz is another amazing one, the zim angst is sublime and hes never like, a fuckin uwu sadbaby. but you still feel so, so sorry for him and what he’s going through. the author really knows how to pack a punch without exhausting the reader and as someone who specializes in angst i can respect that. (fun facts: i love this fic so much that mirforn, an irken painkiller featured in it, is in ANX as A Loving Reference that i will absolutely credit and also shill for ersatz in the author’s notes)

300 days of zim is really good if you like self-inserts! it’s gender-neutral and in second-person so its really immersive, and zim is just so good in it, he retains all his zimmy goodness but there’s a certain softness (in a way) that makes you fall in love with him

speaking of self inserts, @majentaffy‘s tallest magenta series is a fucking stellar series! red and purple are amazing and its honestly one of the most in-character portrayals of them ive ever seen! though i like both of them, im personally more a fan of the invader red series (also a self-insert series) where red takes zim’s place on earth, basically. both series are gender-neutral and in second-person just like 300 days up there

hit me is a rapr classic. thats really all i have to say about it, most of my tallest-loving friends have read it at some point. i reread it on occasion; its an elite-era fic, and a slight au in this is where they meet. its lovely

begin is a human au i personally really like because it has a lot of hyperspecific headcanons of mine in it but it could be a personal taste thing. try it out tho!

there was also this other human au where purple was a drifter and red worked at a diner and sizz-lorr was his boss. it legit felt like an original short story and this made me go out and fucking find it again. its called hand in unlovable hand give it a try

i read canvas years ago and the ending still sticks to me today. it’s a oneshot songfic where the gist is that red’s hooked on drugs. it sounds like its gonna be bad and melodramatic but i actually really like it, it surprises you. it surprised me, too. it’s first person but it really does sound like red is talking. i’m extremely picky with first person (i never read it outside of this) but canvas does it right. please, please i implore you, give canvas a chance. you won’t regret it, i promise

why didn’t we just shoot him? is an amazing exploration on the tallests’ defectiveness and that’s all im going to say on that

all 4 works by this author are part of the same series, but they’re not in a series tag. i just call the series mudroom, after the first one i read. it’s an acquired taste and PLEASE heed the warnings, but i like it so its here

and last but certainly not least, when the time comes is unique in that when the plot changes i dont groan and go “aww, but i like the old stuff!” it goes to a lot of places but personally it feels like each event is a natural consequence of the previous one. dib’s a bit of a dick in it lmfao and zim so far is going thru a trauma conga line but i respect that it doesnt pretend to be anything its not. its a porn-with-plot with angst and sometimes thats just what you fucken need sometimes

i didnt think the 'andy + slavery' thing was handled as badly as everyone made it out to be when telling me about it. tho from the way it was talked about i had kind of figured the conflict between andy and nile re: slavery would be really racially charged (esp considering nile is a black american and would obvs have Thoughts on the subject in that regard) but like,, done in a cringey 'a-white-guy-obviously-wrote-it' kind of way? but it wasnt that. i mean. it makes sense that andy would be implicit in slavery through the years

i mean, like she says, is that not what people just did to each other in the aftermath of battles for thousands of years? and i really like how its pointed out that it was what she was raised with (in the beginning when you see her put shackles on that guy after the battle) but she also accepts responsibility for it and acknowledges that it was wrong and not just 'what people did'.

i like how from her expressions you can kind of tell baby andy knew it was off but she sets those feelings aside bc she felt angry. it explains how she felt but didnt make her out to be blameless in it. plus i mean. i dont know, the fact that andy was involved in a lot of morally shady stuff for 7000 years is not that wild for me. if you live that long youre just Going to be involved in some shit, and she didnt even have other immortals with her as positive community influences, she literally just did whatever the fuck she wanted for thousands of years

ive hit the picture limit but id seen that panel where nicky goes 'forgive me' as he kills a guy out of context and it was HILARIOUSLY anticlimactic for me to discover that there was literally no context to it. nicky just apologizes to random people he kills. i thought that guy was someone he knew or something. nope its just Some Guy that nicky didnt know from adam

nile's complaint that andy was especially brutal to the guys on the boat... i mean. . , how exactly does one kill a man with an axe and not be brutal about it?

it was funny how noriko kissed andy and the only people who seemed surprised by that were nile and also andy

nicky and joe's complete non-reaction to finding out noriko is alive And Evil Now is endlesly funny. they just left her on that boat and neither cared. i get book and nile not caring but joe and nicky knew her, and they just have 0 input on the subject of what to do with her

i dont know, i get why people didnt like the ending but its. .. . it makes more sense in the comicverse. bc the squad doesnt really. .. interact outside of jobs? i mean, think of the moon landing story in ttt. that was booker and joe and nicky doing a job and andy only showed up a for a couple minutes after it was done. or the brunch in the first issue of opening fire. the squad arent as tight in the comic, and andy often seems to do her own thing outside of work, so andy saying 'i dont want to do work anymore' and the squad being like 'alright bye then' makes more sense in this universe than the movie one

also i feel like greg was Trying to set up a thing where nile becomes the Leader of The Squad after andy dies but like. its not very well done since. . . i mean, nile hasnt spoken to booker since opening fire, (and she only knew him A Day). and shes known joe and nicky all that time, but there isnt really anything that indicates that they have any relationship at all, much less one that's grown. in all the comicverse the only time nile and nicky speak is in FM, and in that scene nicky tells nile about noriko. nile goes from someone who needs to be set aside to have background knowledge explained to her to being the Leader of the group with nothing in between. it kind of... comes out of nowhere.

on the other hand tho... i felt really bad for andy thru the whole thing. well, i always felt bad for andy, but in this one she seemed so miserable, especially since it really felt like none of the others actually.... cared about her. when noriko came back no one asked andy how she was doing (big question ik, but it wouldve showed they cared at least), nobody ever expressed any concern for her, no one even really seemed to want to be around her. in opening fire everyone was more distant than in the movie of course, but there were little moments where she would joke with joe, or nicky would try and comfort her, or stuff like that, but in FM it really felt like they just didnt really care about her. & in opening fire it felt a lot like andy's relationship with nile breathed some new life into her, but in FM it felt like all they did was argue. i get theyre not *as* close in the comics but it really felt like the only person who cared about andy at all was noriko (which was probably also how andy felt) but it just seemed to come out of nowhere. honestly i was reading and i was honestly agreeing with andy that she might just be better off if she did just die. opening fire, on the other hand, never make me feel that way

tho everyone made it sound like when the squad split up it was one of those cursed 'the found family leaves each other at the end of the journey' tropes. but guys i mean,,, this is the second installment out of three. that isnt the End. theyll come back in the third one and Dramatically Reunite to fight some baddies (probably those 'others' noriko mentioned). im guessing yitzhak fits into that too somehow.

anyways it wasnt That Bad but it made me kind of sad and the only Sweet Found Family vibes in it were when they saved booker. also they shouldve beefed up that nilemoose romance, it underwhelmed me. 6.5/10

i also ABSOLUTELY understand all of greg's comments about how you couldnt make FM directly into a movie, he always said that it had no plot and. i get it now. it really didnt have a plot sdfghjkl

HI LOVES :D MatsuHana is one of my FAVORITE ships and I always love reading their fics! I’m procrastinating my other wips rn, so that do be why this is coming out rn LOL. Also that ask really made me get onto writing this, so anon thank you for sending it in LOL. There are some with VERY sensitive topics and they’re very BOLD, but I hope you all are safe while going through this list <3 (also matsuhana leans more to lots of drinking, spicy smut scenes, and teenage boy humor (like d*ck jokes and sexual innuendos) and sometimes I don’t remember to warn for that, so again CAUTION)

It was SO freakin’ funny and the other teams KILLED ME. Like how they all approached the problem differently and how some of them (KUROO) asked for help LOL. Please this is so freaking funny go read it.

quidditch gloves, parchment, and custard cream by h_lovely (T) 12.4k // THIS IS SO GOOD, I love this fic. It really takes you through the emotions, and I love all the development in it!!!! Their relationship with one another (but only as homies right? ofc ofc), and even their families loving the other, this fic is so good! Read it even if you don’t like slow burn, you won’t even notice <3333

call me maybe by totooru (T) 33.6k // okay yea another (semi) chat fic,,, fight me. MatsuHana are just funny in general but throw some other characters (like Kuroo) into it and it turns into a comedy show. But the main point of this fic was like the near miss meetings and I think that the misunderstanding were hilarious (as much as I hate misunderstandings LOL).

Magical Mishaps and How to Deal by plumtrees (M) 10.9k // I lost this fic once and I searched for it FOR THE LONGEST TIME. But that’s cause I wanted to reread this masterpiece. IT’S SO FUNNY AND CUTE AND DOMESTIC AND UGH. Also the small angst made me SO SAD. But the ENDING? THE KISSES AHHHHHHH. (I’m yelling a lot BUT that’s cause I really love this fic <3333)

hang out fall in love by carafin (T) 8.6k // I love the Makki hates Mattsun initially but then falls for the irresistible charm he posses trope. It might be my favorite trope for MatsuHana specifically LOL. Like I really love this fic and it has MAGIC. It’s like a magical version of the VA one LOL. But like no radio shows or reunited best friends in this one :(

Even Though it All Went Wrong by plumtrees (T) 9.2k // THIS IS THE REASON THIS POST CAME TO BE. I love this fic with all my heart (or what’s left of it). Like LOVE as in, this fic really broke me beyond just breaking me. Like. When Oikawa says what he says to Mattsun after the thing (you’re sorry __ _____ __ ____) and the Iwa right after (we know __’__ ___ ______ to make you ____ __ ____) (if you’re wondering wtf I’m putting here, just ctrl F you’re sorry and you’ll see), you cannot believe how hard that hit. GOD. (I am okay if you’re wondering :’)) This is my #1 favorite angst fic of all time and if you are okay mentally and have read the tags and warnings and are fine with them, then please read it. PLEASE READ THE TAGS AND WARNINGS, THERE ARE VERY SENSITIVE TOPICS!!!!

The Truth Comes Out by Your_Friendly_Neighborhood_Pigeon (T) 10.2k // this made me so sad and empty after I read it. Like I just sat there being like wtf did I just read I’m sad now. Again read the tags, there is a suicide attempt but there’s also some cheating in this one. This one also ends happy. PLEASE READ THE TAGS AND WARNINGS, THERE ARE VERY SENSITIVE TOPICS!!!!

kiyala // this writer has a LOT of fluffy MatsuHana and I really love their works! It’s just all (for the most part) really cute and there’s a lotta blurred lines and boundaries that get cleared up (they define what their relationship is but with ~love~) in their fics :) My fav? Making Sense by kiyala (T) 1.5k // it’s very cute and I am one who loves when things just fall into place :D

tookumade // this writer has some of MY FAVORITE MatsuHana fics in it and I’m kinda really sad I don’t get to ramble on about them here :( (dw I will elsewhere LOL) If I had to choose, I would say Remind Me by tookumade (T) 28.6k and Zenith, Nadir by tookumade (T) 10.7k were my absolute favorites, but I cannot choose between them so don’t make me.

plumtrees // I LOVE THIS WRITER OMG. Again, someone who has written my all time FAVORITE fics (did I mention OF ALL TIME?) and I’ve obsessively read some of them too many times :’) Because I already recommended my other faves above, Captured Light by plumtrees (T) 3.5k will be my acting favorite rn. It’s really cute and depicts some really sweet moments between MatsuHana too!

h_lovely // this writer has SO MANY GOOD FICS! I really love their series and their getting together fics are all SO GOOD UGH. I recommended my favorite teen one above, but the other ones I loved are explicit so just check out this writer in general LOL. (I REALLY love mirror flower, water moon, it’s my favorite but it’s E cause some smexy scene happen, but it’s really SO good omfg. Also the roses series IS AMAZING as well!!!!)

cream puffs and carnations; by crossbelladonna (series) 11.6k // AU SERIES!!! I love the AU’s in this series and I really liked the prompts they chose for this MatsuHana week :D My favorite from this series might’ve been there he is again by crossbelladonna (T) 1.6k cause a) I love the mattsun hc in this (for his appearance) and b) IT’S CUTE :D I definitely related to Makki and his not very subtle crushing, and also I like the IwaOi + Makki as friends trope (and then they meet Mattsun), if you couldn’t tell yet LOL.

on the anatomy of crushes by carafin (T) 2.3k // (kinda cp but not LOL) it’s very short and cute and I love it a lot LOL. I love medical AU’s (even though it’s very back burner LOL), but also, like Mattsun saves the day is the move. Like the dedication he has even going on the bus? Especially for a guy? Amazing. I could never :’)

Parallel Lines by orphan_account (T) 16.3k // IN LOVE WITH THIS FIC LIVES IN MY MIND RENT FREE CONSTANTLY. I hate math. Just putting that out here. And while it’s a math fic, IT? IS? SO? GOOD???? And like I love it when characters are smart, like I love intelligent characters so like this was just ajndf. (also same Mattsun, I am allergic to normal math.)

live it up, drink it in by punybastard (T) 2.1k // GAH this one! This is a pretty iconic fic in MatsuHana hell (in my personal opinion) and if I didn’t have that two fic limit on my staple fics, this would be there. I really loved the ending of it (v cute and v well done), but also the small side stories that were inserted made it all the more entertaining :D (aka the volleyball) But they are drinking underage, so if you’re not about that BE WARNED.

it's cold out here by bishounen_curious (M) 8.6k // PLEASE I LOVE THIS FIC. YES READ YESYESYES READ. OKAY FIRST check tags and warnings, there’s a lot going on in this fic. Like don’t be stupid like them, drinking underage, and don’t do drugs not a good idea very very bad. Aside from that, I am in love with sad sad sad Makki (along with stupid IwaOi) and him being a sad drunk made me ajhkjdfs. Just read it and feel the akfnakjs with me LMFAO.

poolside by tothemoon (T) 4.1k // I’m starting this out with I LOVE the ending and I REALLY LOVE the way this confession panned out. It’s such a great concept and it made me ajhfldshf inside!!! Also, recursive endings are some of my favorites (if you couldn’t already tell LOL), and I think it really makes something so nostalgic and adds depth to a fic.

The Courage of Stars by FairyLights101 (T) 7.1k // AHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE THIS FIC YES!!!! OKAY TW CANCER THERE’S CANCER IN THIS NO DEATH JUST PAIN and chemo (which basically is pain). Some controversy, but the angst part of me wanted him to die DONT GET ME WRONG, I’m glad he lived, but like imagine. I really love this fic, and his efforts in the bucket list were admirable :’)

we could be the greatest team by anyadisee (T) 5.7k // it’s my crack fic :D Yes, this is just Seijoh messing around, boys being boys, relationships being compared with other relationships. No pining, just me with my established relationships (and Iwa fanclubs cause those are a thing. ALWAYS).

Wet Your Whistle by darkmagicalgirl (E) 5.4k // SMUT ALERT okay but like while it’s a major plot point (lmfao I can’t believe myself), the storyline itself is good. Also, I’m all here for bartender Makki and tattoo Makki and not subtle at all Makki and basically everything Makki. I like banter and stupidity okay?

that's what you get (for waking up in vegas) by skittidyne (T) 4.2k // THIS IS SO FUNNY. I love Elvis cause he’s always officiating marriages in my fics LMFAO. But also IwaOi in this added some real nice comedy, and overall another crack fic but I really liked this one (AGAIN LMFAO).

A Bouquet of Flours by guyfierimpreg (G) 5.2k // first I want to know how they got the flour to scream, I just can’t figure it out so if anyone would like to send me pictures that’d be great. Second, they would do this bs and this is all canon. I said what I said, and I don’t take criticism. Like, matsuhana best parents proven by the magical mishaps fic (LMAO).

texting (with a capital S) by parenthetic (renaissance) (M) 2.1k // okay I just wanted to say that the accuracy in the math stuff being mentioned makes me feel like this writer was in calc ab or something and that’s trauma right there. Anyways, it’s a texting fic kinda sorta getting together kinda sorta not? Idk how to explain it, but it was funny and then smut LMFOAJIAHFSJS (the derail was just like IwaOi in gay chicken, someone call the police LMFAO).

nebulas by tothemoon (T) 10.8k // I like the casualness of it. Like the confession was just so casual (smooth Mattsun) and like the progression was GOOD. Like, it’s a very poetic fic and there’s lots of thinking of deeper meaning, but its still got some comedy sprinkled throughout. I really loved the flow of it!!!!

my heart beats for contract law by orphan_account (T) 4.4k // I too would have a breakdown over school (me pretending like I haven’t already done that ahaha), but I really love so many things about this fic! Everything was just so ajsdfljdsn and I really love the 3 part plan Mattsun comes up with :DDDD (esp pt 3). Also, to propose while having an emotional breakdown at 3am in a McDonalds drive through. A mf dream.

Reflex by hiuythn (T) 2.3k // PLEASE IF THEY DIDN’T MEET AT HS THIS WOULD BE CANON ASF. You cannot tell me you don’t think this would not be cannon asf. They would meet like this. Also poor Teuchi stuck in the middle of all of this. I haven’t watched naruto, but it doesn’t really matter. What matters is random emotional sexual bonding over something. That is important. (THE ENDING AJKFHKJ)

You're in Pink (and I'm in blue) by Hyeyu (T) 4.4k // whooooo Hanahaki whooo anyway, despite how it seems, I like the hanahaki trope. I don’t fully understand it sometimes (most of the time tbh), but it adds some nice angst and desperate confessions, and I do appreciate those :D Honestly, I really liked the way this fic panned out, and I felt really bad for Iwa LOL.

stranger things by tinypersonhotel (G) 10.2k // I really like this one :D:D:D I love Makki + Oikawa friendship and they’re really the best to each other :’) The ending was satisfying, and the PLOT omg. It was SO good. I feel like I say this a lot though LOL, but I’m just really into fics with good plot progression (or else I don’t read them OOPS).

something of a disaster by latenights (T) 1.4k // chaos ahahhaha. Another crack fic? I hope no one is surprised LOL. It’s just a really short and simple, cute getting together fic with a LOT of insults LOL. I love this one in particular, “Tooru’s dinner special”.

snakes, meth labs and something like love by orphan_account (G) 3.6k // THE ROOMMATE AD PLEASE. I honestly would never think Oikawa would get a snake, but that doesn’t matter LOL. This was me indulging myself in the makki IwaOi best friends and mattsun stranger agenda but it’s a great agenda okay? It’s a good fic and there’s a microwaved fish :D

Lemonade by carriecmoney (T) 4.1k // okay once again, responsible drinking and don’t drink underage bad idea smh. But MatsuHana just making out where they want? I could see that. Yeah. Anyway, as much as public make out seshes make me *gag* feel embarrassed, what made me feel more *gag* embarrassed was the fact that the girls? just? stood? there? Like why are you watching this. Is that just me? I feel like they should’ve left smh.

surprise, surprise by airblends (T) 7.6k // some more pining and dancing around the issue whoooo. As much as I hate them not getting to the point (almost as much as I hate misunderstandings), it was a great fic. This is nosebleed c*ck block (idk if I needed to censor that but I did fight me).

A God for Every Season by timkons (T) 18.4k // I love the Hades and Persephone trope! Okay, I just love mythology leave me be, but anyway I really love a lot of this fic. Like how Mattsun thinks it’s a little brighter with Makki? CUTE I LOVE. But also, the fish funeral is ridiculous but also very on brand for Oikawa. And some BokuKuroo (idk is that their ship) in here as well :DDD

The Best/Worst Places to Cry in the City by AngryKitten (T) 4.4k // literally it is the title. Just you know, looking for the best place to cry in the city,,,, I’d like to say, don’t cat call people cause we’re not about that here. Even if it worked out for them, just don’t do it :/ Also don’t follow strangers. I feel like that’s a given but jic ya know?

this isn't exactly how i thought i'd be spending my adult years by jadedpearl (NR) 7.5k // okay petty Makki is yes and so is my Makki + IwaOi agenda LOL. (I’m thriving here can’t you tell? Yes regular skype/phone calls constantly) Anyway, blackouts and sickness really be here getting people together. (I’m asking nicely, nike.) And Makki is smooth with his words. (SHORTER MEN MADE ME LAUGH)

chocolate by tellalie (T) 3.6k // the dedication in this fic was amazing. Like making a whole a cake? Someone go do that for me. (For mankind.) Fake dating is really something else, but fake dating to out gag your best friends? Seems like I need to step up my game (but no seriously, my best friends are PDA monsters I hate it here). Also practice confessions are wack.

FINALLY I MADE IT. You don’t know how many times I almost gave up on finishing LMFAO. Is this my longest list? Idk. But I just know that I would’ve finished faster if I didn’t end up rereading almost every fic on this list LMFAO. Like no seriously I almost had to make a post saying this wouldn’t be coming out cause I got distracted by one of the longer fics (I’m blaming Mirror Flower, Water Moon specifically). But I hope you enjoyed this, and once again go thank that anon for spurring me into finishing this list LMFAO (am I a horse? Yea, probably but if one thing, I’m not sturdy).
