what do you think are gg's biggest flaws?
Ooh, Anon! It’s like you’re in my head.
I’m busy making a video (that will probably never see the light of day) about this --  my distance from the show has really helped with some super objective clarity -- so I’ll use my notes from that to help me answer.
I’ll preface this by saying what I was most shocked by after putting down all the points was that Rio isn’t even mentioned until really far down??
Anyway, let's get into it.
These are Good Girls' greatest flaws in my opinion (and relative to season 1 -- while I think it had its flaws too, the list is far smaller and I think that's a separate post)
1. It didn't stick to its guns
What set this show apart from others in the 'Everyday person does crime (poorly)' genre was its comedic lightness, strong friendship element, relatability and emphasis on girl power.
a) By season 2, the lightness was already slowly disappearing to make way for season 3's darkness. (Quite literally; this show said sunlight scenes for WHO.) It also stopped being as fun. Remember how it genuinely used to be fun? I mean let's not forget The Best Scene Ever where Ruby shoots Big Mike by accident and we all laughed our asses off. (Compare and contrast to a similar-in-tone-and-context scene -- or even the whole episode -- like Boomer popping up behind them as Rio's package in season 3.) I think season 3 had some great lines and laughs, but in general, the fun element was completely missing for me.
b) As was the friendship. We already know Annie and Ruby basically became Beth's backup dancers in season 2, but at least then they still seemed to have some type of agency. In season 3, they rarely question Beth's (truly questionable) decisions, don't talk to her about shit like why she's still with her horrible husband and have very few true friendship moments as they did in season 1.
c) Which made it less relatable, but what also contributed was the major plot holes (it's less easy to relate when you're constantly having to remind yourself to suspend your disbelief). And, to be honest, their stupid actions. Just the most common-sense things weren't followed, like not taking your children to a crack den or not putting a hit out on a gang leader. It's frustrating watching a TV show -- where characters are supposed to learn things, have arcs and improve over time -- and feeling like you have more logical sense than all the main characters in every scene. (WHO would think a hitman was going to use a sniper rifle on people in broad daylight on the side of the road???)
d) You don't have to look any further than the title or the stans who shout "THE SHOW IS ABOUT THE GIRLS" -- or, hell, the first 10 seconds of the show where Sara is literally talking about the glass ceiling -- to know that the main characters being women is very important to the show. If not formally feminist, it was at least supposed to be empowering or feel like "girl power" (a term I hate, but we won't get into that now).
And I think it did it pretty well in season 1 -- it actually played on my favourite theme of the show, which is the world's perception of these women being what ultimately allows them to get away with so much. (Rife with opportunities for commentary about white privilege, but also a genius way to upend patriarchal beliefs.) But more and more it seemed like the show was asking you to accept empowerment as simply "these things are being done by women, yay".
And, well.
Tumblr media
2. Its marketing
I'll keep this one short because I think we all know how messed up this situation is. Basically they're selling a show (every week!) that they're not making while ignoring all feedback on every social media platform. Which brings us to...
3. The marriage of Death
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times -- Beth's character development starts with getting rid of Dean. Her growth is stunted by him on multiple fronts and it's frustrating to viewers since she's constantly put forth as the main character. Not to mention how the audience, separately from Beth, was originally conditioned to see Dean as the scum of the earth (think of scenes like him crashing his car because he was perving on a woman jogging) so keeping them together is really... a choice. To actively root for this marriage (which seems like what the show wants, at least for the protracted moment) means either thinking Dean is a great person (which, as I said, we've only seen the opposite of) or believing he's all Beth deserves. Which leads me to...
4. Beth's (socio)path(y)
Is sociopath a 'good' word? Probably not. Have I seen dozens upon dozens of posts talking about whether Beth is one? Yes. And I see it from a huge variety of people -- from viewers who just binged the show last weekend to those who've been watching for years, the question keeps coming up. And I entirely blame the writing of the show that, by the way, I don't believe is deliberately creating Beth to get this reaction. I think she's written (and, to an extent, acted) in a way that is much too aloof and I'm not convinced it's meant to come off as cold and unfeeling as it does. Everything else leads me to believe that the audience is supposed to root for Beth, but it's just so difficult.
Beth does a lot of messed up shit that requires dialogue to sympathise with her and the inner workings of her mind, but in the later seasons Beth rarely gets to express herself verbally. And every time she does get to speak about her emotions, the dialogue is a pick-your-own-adventure between "She's in so much denial", "This person feels no emotions" and "I'll go find an analysis/fic later to explain this" (scenes like "Nothing" or "I was just bored"). Compare and contrast with some of the great scenes in season 1 where she emotes, like her paralysing shock after they first rob the store or admitting she enjoys crime, or (one of my favourites!) the one in the park where she's mimicking the other mothers beside her.
5. Brio
I said in the beginning that I was shocked Rio doesn't get mentioned until this point and that's because I've always felt like he was an integral part of the show. When people say the show is about the girls, they're truncating -- the show is about the girls getting into crime. That crime is represented by Rio over and over again -- they never bring in another criminal at his level (which is another one of its flaws, but that's also a different post); Rio is it.
And though I stand by Rio's importance, the truth is that Brio isn't as essential to the show, by which I mean that if all of the above were done well, it wouldn't be as sorely missed. In lieu of riveting plot, a fun friendship, character development and empowerment, most viewers have glommed onto Brio like a lifeboat (or ship, heh).
Unfortunately it's also what the show has most stubbornly refused to develop significantly.
It's honestly a toss-up for why I feel Brio is a flaw: is the flaw that they got together? That they never got together well enough? That the writing keeps bringing in these 'chemistry-filled' scenes that are ultimately filled with air?
I don't know. Maybe all of them; maybe just one, depending on the day.
6. Its criticism falls flat without intersectionality
This is a big one because Good Girls is *trying* to do something very clever. As mentioned previously, my favourite theme of the show is how the women's apparent innocence/vulnerability in the eyes of society is their biggest strength. The show plays with this and other interesting themes with varying levels of success, but ultimately they all fall a little flat when they don't feel intersectional.
When Ruby gets sidelined. When Turner, who sees and all but calls out by name Beth's privilege, is portrayed as the villain. When Rio is told he's gonna "pop a cap" in his young child's "ass". When the racist grandma becomes a sympathetic character whom we must later grieve. (And she really didn't have to be racist, now that I think about it? It was just that one line for laughs and that was it.) When, despite the real-world implications, Dean can loudly announce in a store that he's buying a gun to kill someone with and the show just glides past it. When Ruby has to grovel for forgiveness from Beth for trying to protect her husband and family from the system, with no acknowledgement from Beth about how their realities are different. When Rhea gets booted off the show as soon as she's done serving Beth's plot. When Rio gets treated like a prostitute for absolutely no reason. (Oh, and is accused of raping Beth and is literally spoken of as an animal and starts only existing in zero dim lighting as a one-dimensional stereotype... the list goes on.)
7. PR/The actors
I'll risk my life here to sprinkle this in because I do think it's a massive problem. The Manny/Christina of it all is just the tip of the iceberg (although wtf Good Girls? There's nothing you could do to get these two into an interview together??). The main actors do the bare minimum to promote the show and it's weird. I also think it's the height of unprofessionalism to keep characters on the show against the wishes of the majority of the audience just because you enjoy their actors (Boomer confirmed; Dean highly suspected). While, on the flip side of the coin, limiting a character's screentime because you aren't best buddies with them. Having less and less Rio when he's such a fan favourite is dumb; as is not including him in any series marketing material. It feels personal and that isn't how a TV show should be run.
8. The entire hair and wardrobe department needs a stern talking-to

Fic Writer Questions
thanks to @venhedish for the tag, this actually got me thinking on a few things lmao
1 ) How many works do you have on AO3?
currently 17, will probably add no 18 tonight. there’s also a bunch only published on ff.net (from when i wasn’t on AO3 yet) and yet another motherload of self-indulgent shit rotting on my hard drive.
2 ) What’s your total AO3 word count?
80781 words, about 60k of that from this year alone. i took a major break from writing 2010ish and really just got back into it during quarantine last year.
3 ) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
7 on AO3. Supernatural, The Last Ship, Walker 2021, Men’s Hockey RPF, TVD, Graceland, Chicago Fire. for purposes of saving myself the embarrassment, we’ll limit this answer to just the AO3 stuff. 😂
4 ) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
ooooh boy, maybe a little embarrassment after all.
A Trip to the South (TVD)
hey lookie, my incest glorifying days did not actually start with SPN lol. Salvatore brothers feeding together, blood sharing and enjoying it. I blame this being at the top solely on the fact that it’s been up since 2013 because it’s really nothing special.
when i dream (I’m doing you all night) (SPN)
Collection of (mostly smutty) deanjohn Tumblr prompts, i can blame most of those on other people lmao
Holding on (until it’s over) (Graceland)
Episode Tag to 1x10, Johnny/Briggs because even then i was obsessed with manny montana and i refuse to apologize for it.
11:59 (Men’s Hockey RPF)
Sean Avery/Henrik Lundqvist Hooker!AU, and yeah that’s pretty much it.
even whiskey can’t do (what you do when you kiss me that way)
OG Stanford Era deanjohn first time smut, my first foray into SPN fics.
5 ) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
YES, i try to respond to all comments. sometimes RL gets in the way but as a rule i try to always respond. i love getting comments so i feel like appreciating the time the commenter took to bring me this joy. ♥️
6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
boy, this is a hard one. I’m not all that good with writing angst but i guess if I had to pick something i’d say don’t give up now (there’s already so much at stake), mostly because of the character’s frame of mind in general and the impending threat of invading a foreign country to overthrow a dictator the next day while being mentally wrecked.
7 ) Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
i’m not against it but i’ve never actually done it.
8 ) Have you ever received hate on a fic?
not that I recall. but i guess it wouldn’t be the worst thing, i struggle way more with getting no feedback at all.
9 ) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
do i? DO I? yeah, i do. usually the kind the story requires which can range from soft to awkward to plain filthy. also whatever kind the kinky anons drop in my inbox, i’m trying to keep an open mind.
10 ) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i’m aware of. I don’t really operate in the super popular corners of the fandoms i’m in so i don’t think anyone feels the need to. it’d be pretty obvious to all the 10-20 people who are into that shit anyway lol
11 ) Have you ever had a fic translated?
again, not really running in the popular corners of fandom (rare pairs ftw) so imma say no. I could probably translate them myself but writing in my first language is fuckin awkward so no thank you.
12 ) Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I’m a pretty solitary writer. I do love to come play in other writer’s ‘verses though if they don’t mind. i have written a few things in @vintagedean ‘s married!vibes for example (thanks for letting me play, dude!)
13 ) What’s your all-time favorite ship?
jeez, i don’t know. i’ve never really stuck with just one fandom, i’m a notorious multi-fandom multi-shipper. i’m the kind of person who watches eps of 4 different shows in one day and yells at the tv about all of them.
14 ) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
we make a long way from easy lovin‘ look good, baby. i was honestly so invested in this project but then they completely torpedoed this pairing in canon in the worst possible way and i kinda lost the drive to keep writing. i have posted it to my graveyard collection of unfinished stuff for now but i don’t think i will finish it, sadly.
15 ) What are your writing strengths?
creating emotions, hitting you in the feels, or so I’ve been told. i like to think that (given that English is not my first language) just reaching the kind of level i’m at now can be considered a strength.
16 ) What are your writing weaknesses?
run-on sentences, endless run-on sentences. they serve a purpose SOMETIMES but mostly it’s just me and my rambly writing style. and repetition. i have actually started searching my writing docs for specific phrases while editing to catch most of them and rephrase. not being able to include just a bit of angst without it turning into an existential crisis for the character and me. and the worst thing I keep doing that i’m not able to stop is writing shit out of order. i start with the beginning, then some idea for the middle pops up, then I write the end and then I have to somehow weave it all together, it’s so inconvenient and annoying.
17 ) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i speak a few languages (or you know, at least can understand/write/read them) so as long as i’m sure that it’s correct and it fits the story, I’m all for it!! language kink ftw.
18 ) What was the first fandom you wrote for?
it was either music or hockey rpf, i’m not even sure anymore at this point, that was like 20 years ago. nothing that ever got published anywhere lol
19 ) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
my name engraved on your heart, hands down. that is my beloved, my baby, the project nearest and dearest to my heart. i can actually read this and enjoy it without nitpicking my own writing at every turn and i’m just so happy with the overall vibe of it. it’s like a niche in a niche of a fandom thing though, so i get that it doesn’t resonate as strongly with others as it does with me but it is my favorite of favorites.
honorable mention to the house don’t fall (when the bones are good), though, because it’s what got me back into writing and it was my biggest (published) project and that fix-it needed to be written.
i think all my fellow fic writer mutuals have already been tagged in this, so i'm not gonna add y'all again but feel free to steal if this strikes your fancy.

Top 5 Media Experiences of 2020
The Good Place
Persona 5
Becoming Invested in the Weepies
Completing Final Fantasy X-2
Bojack Horseman
I'm a Ted Danson fan. Wasn't too flash on Cheers, but I grew up with Becker and I just think his voice, look and style of acting are really cool. My initial interest in The Good Place was to see Ted Danson playing a recent role. I knew the reputation that the show had, and I knew the big spoiler twist (thanks a fuckin lot for turning that into a meme, guys), but I went in with an open mind and expectations that were as clear as I could make them.
And my final thoughts on the show as are follows - The Good Place stands on its own for four great seasons, and it might be one of the best shows of the 2010's.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of redemption arcs - I think it busies up a lot of shows and stuff with plot points they don't necessarily need, and at worst it basically consists of a bad guy gaining a conscience at the last second and dying for it. So if you came up to me at some point in time and told me that one of the best TV shows of the 2010's was a four season long redemption arc, I would have been pissed. The scope of the show is wider than that, asking what it means to be good, and all of the main characters have quirks and idiosyncracies that aren't out and out villainous - but let's be real, The Good Place is a four season long redemption arc.
What makes The Good Place interesting is its focus on the human condition. Any hack can go "my masterwork is intrinsically about the human condition", but The Good Place is actually focused on the human condition. Whether we can improve our own lives and the lives around us through the understanding and implementation of ethics, whether there's a single defining set of ethical guidelines that are objectively the "right" ones, and whether the person we become tomorrow can make up for the person we are today.
This is framed around a focal character who sold placebos to cancer patients, died in a supermarket parking lot after yelling at an environmental activist and dropping a bottle of margarita mix, and spends the first season of the show trying to cheat her way into a heaven she doesn't belong to.
The Good Place proves itself to be a very philosophical show, exploring different ethical frameworks and their relationship with human impulse. Every episode is about the characters fumbling through a dozen different patterns of thought, applying it to their worldview and slowly becoming better people. It also involves post-life bureaucracy, the grey area between straight good and straight evil, and the growing complexity of the world affecting the morality of simple, daily actions.
I could leave it at these grand platitudes, but the show wouldn't work on those concepts alone. The core cast of characters all work exceptionally well together, and it's their relationships with each other that make those concepts as meaningful as they are. Seriously, by the end of season 3, I was tearing up. I outright cried over the finale. The characters are phenomenal, and how they grow and support each other over the course of the show is the real meat of the experience.
And just for the record, since he was the reason I started watching the show - Ted Danson is fan-fucking-tastic in The Good Place. But he's one aspect of a greater whole, and I'm glad he was the impetus for me watching this show because it introduced me to something incredibly thought provoking and emotionally intelligent.
While I'm talking about the acting, everyone is fantastic in this show - Kristin Bell has a great performance over the course of this show. William Jackson Harper is incredible as Chidi, I want to see him in more things - he was one of the best characters in Midsommar, so between this and that I really hope he gets more recognition and more work. Jameela Jamil is a delight all throughout the show, with her own journey of growth punctuated with the most ridiculous name drops ever. And while Manny Jacinto's character has been criticized, the contrast between his first and last moments on the show is unmatched and his character is instrumental in the plot happening the way it does. They all appeal to a specific niche, and they round each other out incredibly well. All four actors did an exceptional job here, and the result is one of the most thought-provoking and emotionally resonant shows I've ever seen.
Also, D'Arcy Carden steals the show as Janet. The way Janet develops over the show is incredible, and it took an incredibly nuanced performance for it to progress that naturally. D'Arcy Carden is the unsung hero of this show, and she deserves all the praise in the world.
The Good Place is one of those shows where you need to watch the first season before you decide to drop it. It's a bit silly to begin with, and while it never loses its humor sensibilities, you would be doing yourself a disservice to watch a few episodes, get turned off by the humor and tune out. By the time episode 8 rolls around, the show has hit its stride, and the best content of the season is still on its way. The way everything ramps up has to be seen to be believed.
The Good Place is my #1 favorite thing of the year. I can't spill my guts about it enough - now is the perfect time to check it out, because it ended this year and it's all on Netflix/DVD/Blu-Ray. Above any of my other interests this year, I would urge anyone reading to give The Good Place a try. It's a superb series.

I LOVED THIS EPISODE! It was nice to have a kid-focused episode. The past few have focused a lot on the adults, so it was nice to see the kids in the spotlight again. It was SO COOL to see the kids playing off each other. We NEED more of it next season. Lena is my daughter, so I was happy to see her back, though I’d rather she not have to suffer.
Spoilers and more detailed thoughts below:
YAY NERF GUNS! Also, it was super sweet of the boys to reassure Lena that they know she’s a good guy now.
LOVED all the different jammies on display. I usually rock something similar to Lena and Violet. Dewey in the footie pajamas gives me LIFE. And Huey with his hat. I’m surprised he didn’t say something along the lines of “Warm head, warm dreams.”
Super cute that Lena set this all up. My baby wants friends.
“Self defense weapons, all manner of booby trap.” I feel like Violet would have suggested having those no matter what. I love my slightly feral nerd daughter.
Beakley for BEST bodyguard.
“Nothing weird is gonna happen at this slumber party.” Webby, babe, you’re just ASKING for trouble.
Lena’s little song and cake! MY HEART! I think Huey may have drawn some inspiration from that cake, lol
“Time loses all meaning in the infinite night of the shadow realm.” HELP THIS CHILD! And again, I think Donald would be the perfect parent for her.
“You are a wordsmith!” Webby LOVES her shadow gf.
THE FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS! AND THEY MATCHED EACH KID! HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THIS GIRL!
Of course Louie is suspicious. He was wary of his mom AND just spent the last episode getting betrayed by Goldie.
“You literally sound like that now.” Huey, you need to learn how to read a room.
“That’s just my voice, I can’t help it!” I feel ya there. And a nice bit of foreshadowing
“I’ve found it’s clearer to convey no emotion whatsoever.” Also not a good way to talk to people.
Aw, Lena. Like Webby said, you don’t have to prove yourself. That seems to be a running theme this season. Dewey wants to prove himself to his mom, Louie wants to prove himself to anyone, and Della wants to prove that she is a good mom and fits into this family.
“That makes you super-extra-good, right?” “Math checks out.” You two share one (1) brain cell and that’s adorable.
Webby has no table manners and that is valid.
“LET’S EAT PURE SUGAR!” That is just a bad idea in general, much less for Huey.
What happened to Huey? Why was his mouth all grey?
“You know who my best friend is?” “Me.” “Sleep.” A.) Mood, B.) Dewey’s face is PRICELESS! You can’t win them all.
Sleeping Beakley is TERRIFYING.
“It might be sleepy-time.” Webby, you are TOO PRECIOUS!
Anyone getting some Nightmare on Elm Street vibes? Specifically the third one? I guess that was what they were going for, what with the title and all.
Concerned girlfriend is concerned.
MY POOR BABY! HASN’T SHE SUFFERED ENOUGH?!
“Do you need, *whispers* you-know-what paper?” Not sure if Beakley told her toilet isn’t something you should go around saying or if Webby doesn’t want to embarrass anyone. Either way, cute!
Lena pulls of Dewey’s do well.
One of the most precious moments ever! And a reminded that they are still pretty young.
WEBBY IS SUCH A GOOD FRIEND/GIRLFRIEND! *happy tears*
LOVED the shot of Lena with the stars reflected in her eyes.
Heck, the animation for all the dreams is AMAZING! I love how you can INSTANTLY TELL whose dream we’re in.
I’m glad they figured out that they were in a shared dream early. Gives us more time for wacky dream shenanigans!
Webby/hamburgers is otp
I like that they used the “you can’t read in dreams” thing. Nice touch. It looks like at least Launchpad, Scrooge, and Donald had a corresponding emoji.
“Why are you dialing a banana?” DREAM LOGIC!
SWORD HORSE!
Webby CANONLY kins Scrooge!
EXTREMELY EXTREME OBSTACLE COURSE
Louie putting a stop to unicorn shenanigans before they begin.
Those directions. Better than Penny’s at least.
Violet is blunt and to the point. She’s probably a Virgo.
LIVING for all the cartoony sound effects!
POOR LENA! AND YAY SUPPORTIVE WEBBY! Also, love Louie in the background being confused as fuck.
That cute little smile! I WOULD DIE FOR LENA!
I don’t think the whole “don’t wake a sleepwalker” thing is actually valid in real life, but here it’s probably a goodish idea. Magic is weird and unpredictable.
“LET’S FLY, BECAUSE WE CAAAAAAN!” I like the way you think. I love that Louie’s wings have dollar signs. And Lena’s bat wings are DOPE.
“I HATE WALKING!” Louie is MOOD.
Huey and Dewey crashing, lol
That unicorn got DEEP. And I now crackship him and Manny.
Lena walked into Snow White.
“I probably grew horrible bat wings for non-evil reasons.” It’s because you are a baby goth.
“I ATE A BUG!” Dewey, you are a special boy and that’s valid.
“Ew, Webby, why is there a school in your dream?” Again, Louie is MOOD.
Ugh, I wish I could make out what the sign in front of the school says. I see EXCELLENCE though.
Dewey CONFIRMED HSM fan. And I’m getting some Saved By The Bell vibes. He’s binged ALL the high school classics. This is probably how Mabel dreamed high school would look like before the crushing slap of reality hit her.
His hair and jacket. Too cute, expect for his hair being alive. That was freaky. I fear for him when he learns what high school is actually like.
His song. Dewey is in for HEARTBREAK. LIVE YOUR DREAM WHILE YOU CAN!
I know most people are going with Dewey is bi after the whole romantic interest thing, but I feel like he might be aro/ace. Dewey is threatened by choosing a romantic partner. I’ve kind of always seen him as ace though, so it might just be me. Or it could be him trying to figure out his sexuality, which is cool. I love that the crew threw that in. The boy is not straight in any way though.
I love that Dewey’s singing rivals are Beagle Boys.
“Who knows what that’s about?” “I have some theories.” SYMBOLISM!
Dewey Dude is upsetting even BEFORE it turned into Magica.
The balance between comedy and STRAIGHT UP HORROR was handled well.
Lena has watched Wizard of Oz.
“You ruined my big dance!” Priorities, Dewey. Louie looks relieved though.
Dewey’s hair looked super cute when it was wet.
Why did he and Lena taste the water? Is there some sort of significance there?
“I just failed a class called Dew-ology.” “Well I’m the class Dew-torian.” That’s stretching it, Dewey.
“I gotta get outta here.” Haha, Dewey’s dream is Huey’s nightmare.
Louie-field. I WANT PLUSHIES. Also, Louie confirmed furry?
“This is your dream? To be even lazier?” Don’t be a hater, Huey! Louie’s got the right idea.
Wonder if Beakley taking care of Louie-field means anything.
Seriously, Huey is SUCH a hater! He wants out of Dewey’s dream and he mocks Louie’s.
“HOW ARE YOU SLEEP-SLEEPING?” Don’t hate cause you ain’t. Also, I have napped in a dream once so....
Louie’s sleep face is MAJESTIC. HE’S BEAUTY, HE’S GRACE.
“I just am.” Louie is so wise.
Wolf Lena is BEST
Violet, there is a better way to talk about people’s psychological issues.
Why would you choose the litter box?
“WHY, HUEY, WHY?!” No arguments here.
I’m the eldest sibling like Huey and I’m the shortest of the three of us, so I get you, Huey. But there are better, cooler, less upsetting ways to manifest that dream. Like switching bodies with a tall person.
His legs make rubber band noises when he moves.
“Don’t listen to him! Follow your lame dreams.” What a supportive brother.
Huey’s dream is Dewey’s nightmare. Nice.
I too use my feet to do things, like opening doors or getting stuff off the floor. But opening jars of FOOD?! UNSANITARY AND YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER.
Someone is a Spinel fanboy.
Or is he Slender-Huey?
“And it’s my dream to be in a montage.” While it is pretty dope, why does Dewey get two dreams?! Greedy little bastard. Are we sure he’s not the evil triplet, lol.
HERE’S HOW PHOOEY CAN WIN! Liked that they implied he’s the evil one. He’s a yellow, less 90s Dippy Fresh.
JUST SAY NO TO PHOOEY! His name means the f-word.
MORE DRAGON BALL Z!
NERD ALERT!
Huey has found a kindred soul.
I like that Violet even has Quackfaster as a librarian.
“It’s almost 6am!” Your old man is showing. Sidenote-I tend to wake up around 6. I’m old.
“Go get some jobs!” Scrooge, do you know about child labor laws?
This is the second episode of this set that Scrooge comes off as a bit of a prick.
POOR LENA! At least all the kids care about her. The poor girl needs some friends.
“She’s gonna be cold without her sweater!” His heart’s in the right place.
I love that all the kids jump in after Webby immediately. NEVER LEAVE A MAN BEHIND.
Louie just spinning in the background.
“I think this is more nightmare.” Thank you, Captain Obvious.
I want that castle as a playset.
Good lord this scene was hard to watch. It reminded me a lot of Raven in Ever After High (and Teen Titans Raven too). She’s so afraid of being predestined to become evil that it’s consuming her to the point that she can’t see anything else and feels stuck. Some of this really hit close to home for me because I deal with depression and anxiety and when a big episode hits it’s hard to find my way out. Luckily, just like Lena, I have a good support system.
Magica gaslighting Lena was really upsetting to see.
Lena becoming Magica then a literal monster? LET MY DAUGHTER HAVE PEACE!
“Ugh, why does everything I say sound sarcastic?” Callback
Was that a hint at a Gargoyles reboot? I JOKE TO EASE THE PAIN!
#youtriedDewey
Dewey’s spinny eyes, lol
Webby is most competent fighter
Poor Louie. The past two episode have not been kind to him physically.
Lena will ALWAYS be there for Webby.
POOR LENA!
HURRAY FOR SUPPORTIVE FRIENDS!
FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC, BITCH!
“It’s fine, FINE!” Just wait for puberty, Huey. It will be slightly less disturbing.
I TOTALLY CALLED THAT THIS WAS A PLOT FOR MAGICA TO GET HER POWERS BACK! YAY FOR BEING RIGHT!
Magica is meth aunt.
“I don’t need you. You need me!” THAT’S MY GIRL!
FERAL
I bet Magica is gonna lie about still having powers so she can get close enough to Lena to regain her powers and stab everyone in the back. Whether or not she succeeds...
Boyd and Lena should start a club. The “I thought/felt like I was a real, flesh and blood being, had an existential crises over it, and am trying to deal with my evil relative” club. Huey’s the moderator, he’s working on his consoling badge.

So I’m a little annoyed at some of the comments I’m seeing about “Rio better not be a cheater”, do people really think he made that baby by himself! We can’t forget that although she is really unhappy, Beth is marred and cheating on her husband (no matter how much he deserves it). Why would anyone think he wouldn’t have anyone in his life. What are your thoughts?
ok, anon, about that.
*sighs*
FIRST: I hope Adelfa won’t get hate for a comment she probably shouldn’t have written and that she erased later. We all know there are ppl out there that take things to an extreme and cross the line between real life and a tv show that it’s NOT real, no matter how much you love it. I posted here once about Alison Tolman, the actress who plays Mary Pat, getting hate on TT bc of her character. And I say that bc this kind of shit happens all the time, no matter the fandom you’re in. Believe me, I was on TT and I already saw a few mean and angry comments about her.
That being said:
SECOND: I’ve seen people talking about more than one interpretation of that comment. In some of her interactions with fans, she is usually playful and charismatic. So far, this is what I saw people saying:
1- she really is playing his wife on the show too.
2- she was answering a fan with her usually playful mood and only meant that on set ( as in the place her  husband works) or offset she is his wife so, whatever…I don’t know if I made myself clear here so…
My opinion? Is that she probably meant she will be his wife in the show ( and Goddamn it, here goes my older posts saying that that hug looked more like a friends’ hug. In my defense, I didn’t get any romantic/sexy vibe from it. It rly looks like old friends hugging each other but like other people theorized here, she could also be his baby mama.). However, we all knew the guy has a life outside his criminal gangster persona and he had a life before Beth showed up, obviously, so sue him!
And I don’t think that Beth “forgot” he had a kid but she probably assumed something in the lines of what some ppl in the fandom also thought: baby mama was dead, was out of his life, or is actually his ex. Maybe she even thought about him having someone else but didn’t care bc she did not want to feel anything for the guy. I don’t think Beth is the kind of person to have sex with someone else without getting some feelings, however, so she will be surprised or angry with herself for feeling something more for him when she knows she shouldn’t.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, I got an entirely different view of Rio coz he didn’t seem the type to cheat with all that talk about loyalty and trust. Maybe he only applies it to his work but not personal life?  Or there is more to the story than we know. Manny said once Rio’s motivation is “family”. I always thought that “family”  involved a father, mother, sisters or brothers ( which he might have, at least one of his parents alive or both). I was surprised when I found out he also had a kid. And with a wife now in the picture? Hmm, I get why people are feeling kind of betrayed but, like I said, maybe there is more to the story than we know.
All this still feels odd to me to a point, bc, again, I never thought he’d be the type. And how this man finds time to do everything he does with a little family to care for? Holy shit, Rio, teach me how u do it, coz I need to learn that!
Rio is far from perfect and he was never a saint, to begin with. It was obvious to me since his kid appeared that Rio had a relationship with someone else at a moment in his life and it probably meant something special for him to have a kid with her, or don’t. The kid could be a result of a one night stand or a relationship without any prospects of lasting for long.
Now that there is the possibility of him being a cheater, I’d say that relationships are complicated and not all of them perfect, see Beth and Dean and how things are going down. Like you said, Beth is cheating too and even if Dean is a scumbag she could have chosen to not go down that road. She did it bc she wanted, and she doesn’t even know Rio or trust him enough but Beth is way aware of how things between them would get to that point.
Let’s be fair: Rio is a criminal, a killer, he almost killed Beth ( He thought about at least in that second episode), he breaks the law and does all kind of wrong things. Him being a cheater? It sucks but it would be just another thing to add to the list of all the reasons why Rio is the wrong guy to be involved with. Yeah, I know he has good points to his character too and that he is not a monster… We’ve talked about that already. No one in this show is a saint ( and I dare say not even Stan coz I know he means well but he is breaking the laws for Ruby already. He is getting hhis hands dirty too)
However, this thing he has with Beth is so strong and raw … It runs deeper, like, it’s instinctual and it’s getting out of control. No one can say that there is nothing going on between these two and I don’t think it’s sexual attraction only.
this brings me to another thought :
THIRD:
If there is a possibility of Adelfa deleting that comment bc she saw that ppl took it  the wrong way, and option 2 of my second line of thought is correct, this is only a misunderstanding and she is not actually his wife, but maybe an ex or someone else? Coz, again, Brio sells this show. It is so strong and powerful that the writers couldn’t let go of it - hell, let’s be honest, this show is incredible and it doesn’t need Brio to be so great as it is, but it’s what makes ppl go crazy about it and watch the show for them. I won’t be a hypocrite about that-. We know they won’t have a happy ending, I don’t see how it can end happily for everyone involved but there is always the possibility of Beth and Rio having a strong, unbreakable connection between them that will keep them together until the end.
This is all I think of what happened after that comment written on IG and what it means or could mean.
Honestly, tho? We are all here trying to find an answer to all that and losing our minds and having our heart broken in the process, but I‘d ask u this:
have you ever felt betrayed or even disappointed with GG writers or Jenna Bans in all this time watching the show?
Because if so, I’d say that is not my case. I trust them to give us just the best of the best here and they worked hard for that, I’m sure and I won’t let this turn me down, not when I didn’t even watch the episode or the rest of the season to really know what this whole thing between Beth and Rio is about.
Let’s wait and see, exercise our patience and not let our minds drive us crazy.

Bughead, Veggie, Kevin/Moose, Clannah, Justin/Jessica, Tony/Caleb, Jaitlin, Janny, Spemma, Jellie, Imogeli, Cake, Frankston, Zasha, Mola, Shiny, Shawngela, Rucas, Charlie/Riley, Drianca & Zaya
Thank you! :)
Bughead: They’re definitely one of my favorite Riverdale Ships. I love how supportive they are of each other and I think they have the strongest connection on the show. I think Season 4 has made me love them even more. The writers I think write this ship the best because they just keep getting better. I just wish Jughead would come back to Riverdale because the Stomewall story is getting kind of boring IMO and it’s done more harm for him than good, but I’m glad him and Betty haven’t been affected by the distance. In fact I think they’ve gotten stronger. Not much else to say lol other than they’re super adorable and I love them :)
Veggie: They had great chemistry and I didn’t mind it as a temporary thing, but it was clear Veronica wasn’t as invested in the relationship. If both of them had been fine with just friends with benefits it would have been fine but it was clear Reggie wanted more than that. It sucks that it seemed to ruin their friendship since the one scene they’ve had this season was Veronica questioning Reggie on doing something (I don’t remember what exactly) in the episode we find out about his abuse. Oh they had a scene with Archie and Munroe too but they don’t really seem to be friends anymore and that’s a shame but maybe that will change.
Kevin/Moose: This was my favorite Kevin pairing and it sucks that it ended as soon as they got closer, like all of Kevin’s relationships. I didn’t like the Kevin kind of making him feel bad about not being out of the closet but i know he just felt like Moose wasn’t serious about him, he wasn’t trying to be pushy or hurtful. Anyway I wish that Moose went back to Riverdale instead of the other school, at least he had friends there that could have supported him and he wouldn’t be made to feel like he had to leave.
Clannah: I really only liked them in season 1. They had a couple cute scenes in season 2 but mostly the writing for them was really bad in s2 and I saw you said the same thing in your answer and I agree about Clay putting her on a pedestal and then acting irrationally when she didn’t live up to his “perfect” image of her. It’s what made me dislike Clay in season 2. Guys like Zach and Justin definitely were flawed but they didn’t hold Hannah to that ridiculous standard or judge her. I do sympathize with Clay having a hard time coping with her death but that still didn’t excuse his behavior.
Justin/Jessica: I feel guilty for shipping them for obvious reasons and they’re definitely problematic but it’s clear that they love each other and Justin never wanted to hurt her. He handled things awfully but it wasn’t because he was evil like Bryce. He did deserve consequences and I wouldn’t have blamed Jessica if she never forgave him but she did and since then he’s made her happy. Honestly it’s mostly season 3 that I ship them, but I didn’t dislike them before that even though I definitely acknowledged that Justin fucked up.
Tony/Caleb: They’re super cute. I don’t have many strong feelings but I’m glad Tony found someone that makes him happy and has been a good support system for him.
Jaitlin: I LOVE THEM. I really need to rewatch DJH and DH. They’re super sweet and I will never forgive the writers for what they did to them. Well actually I blame Kevin Smith more because apparently he got to help write that episode and he had a crush on Stacie, so. Anyway, I definitely believe Joey and Caitlin belonged together. They had so much history and they made each other so happy. I don’t have much else to say but they deserved their happy ending.
Janny: I really like them together. I do think they could have had better build up/development but they worked despite their differences and Jay definitely treated Manny the best out of all her boyfriends. I liked the softer side she brought out in Jay. I’m glad they were endgame :)
Spemma: Lol what’s funny is they actually could have worked if they had build up. Not as a marriage unless they had been a thing since the beginning but as a couple they wouldn’t have been terrible if it wasn’t so random and rushed. At least it’s confirmed that it was a mistake and I believe they were only still married in NC as a joke to piss us off. But yeah it was nice that they made each other happy and like if they had just hooked up in the movie as a rebound for Spinner and maybe had a friends with benefits type thing that would have made sense. Or if they started dating in season 7 or 8 and were endgame but NOT married then fine. But I’ve literally never seen a much more rushed couple on the show and that’s saying something.
Jellie: I’m assuming this is Jimmy/Ellie. They were cute but I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jimmy and I didn’t like that Ellie was rude to Hazel especially since she didn’t even like Jimmy back. I would have much rather had them get together instead of Jesse/Ellie(the inferior Jellie lol), and rather them instead of Jimash getting together again, but I didn’t really care about them either way.
Imogeli: They had great chemistry and I liked their friendship, but Eli treated Imogen awfully in the first half of season 11 and during their short lived relationship in the second half and I’m glad they realized they were better as friends. I still like them better than Eclare though lol.
Cake: They’re really cute, I didn’t ship them but I had no problem with their relationship, especially after rewatches because I didn’t really like the way Clare was written the first time I watched s11. I hate that the writers hard on for Eclare fucked up this relationship. Even though I didn’t ship them at least they were healthy and happy and Jake was actually a good guy. If they had just broken up then fine it happens but their parents clearly only got married so they couldn’t get back together, so they could go back to Eclare and nothing will convince me otherwise.
Frankston: They were really cute in season 13, but Winston became such a asshole in season 14, first with being the blackmailer (sure he said it was doing it to help Frankie but it just made things worse) and then cheating on her, and with her best friend of all people, and had no intention of telling her and made Lola feel like it was her fault. And then basically calling Frankie crazy for not trusting him right away. The Logan thing I can understand being upset but not only did Frankie not actually cheat but she was actually honest about it. But Winston said what she did was “worse”. Fuck him, it’s not like she planned on falling for Logan who just used her, she was genuinely just trying to be a good friend at first. So yeah I’m glad Frankie didn’t take him back in Next Class, he may have been nicer but she still deserves better.
Zasha: I really like them. I’m glad Zoe found someone who loves her for who she is and has her as a first choice. They’re super sweet and adorable and I’m glad they were endgame. I still wish Gracevas could have happened instead, but at least Zoe was able to find someone after that mess of a storyline.
Mola: I really like them. The only thing I don’t like is Miles cheating on Tristan, and Miles telling her to take the bus was really harsh. And not seeing him reach out after he found out she had an abortion was fucked. I don’t think he meant to hurt her though and he did apologize for how everything happened. But other than that I think Miles and Lola were actually a good match. It was just bad timing. I wish they could have at least talked once in season 4.
Shiny: I really love them. They’re super sweet and adorable together and I’m glad they were written much better in season 4 because I was disappointed how they were written in season 3. I didn’t really expect them to have sex but Tiny was super sweet. I’m glad they were endgame, sadly they probably wouldn’t have been if the show had continued, I guess that’s one good thing about it lol :P
Shawngela: They were adorable! I don’t have many thoughts (I need to rewatch BMW too lol) but I definitely think they were a great match and it’s sad they didn’t get a happy ending, I definitely think they deserved it. One thing I didn’t like though is how they repeatedly compared their relationship to Cory and Topanga, like they were their own relationship they didn’t need to be like anyone else. But other than that I did like them a lot together.
Rucas: They were my favorite GMW ship, they were super adorable and I’m mad the writers neglected their relationship when they finally got together. They wasted so much time on the “triangle” with Maya that was stupid and pointless. Like as much as I loved Rucas the show shouldn’t have revolved around all that, like BMW had two major relationships(3 if you count Cory/Eric’s parents) with a few minor ones here and there that never meant anything, and none of them ever had love triangles (except Cory/Lauren/Topanga but that lasted like 3 episodes and wasn’t dragged on for half a season). I get GMW was geared to a younger audience but it still wasn’t necessary. But I still do like Rucas and still think they’re sweet even though I don’t care about the show anymore.
Charlie/Riley: Weird. Pointless. Unnecessary. Like they are so irrelevant I literally do not even have any other way to describe them lmao.
Drianca: 😍😍😍. My 2nd favorite ship of all time! My babies!!!! I love their build up, their chemistry, how much they love and care about each other and the lengths they went to protect each other ❤️❤️❤️ Drew helped Bianca get her life back on track and was there for her when she had no one. They were always super happy together and SCREW THE WRITERS FOR BREAKING THEM UP. I get people move on and that long distance sometimes puts those things in perspective, but they were doing just fine!!!! Like maybe Alicia couldn’t come back to the show but they were doing long distance just fine. Maybe if they didn’t stretch the seniors year out for 80 years they could have graduated in s13 and they could have been endgame. But nooo they just had to give Drew unnecessary relationships that just dragged down his character!!!! Like Clew was fine but they didn’t even happen for real and then Drew got screwed over by her mistaking the baby as his and ugh!!!! Anyway, I love Drianca so much, everything about them is amazing and they were made for each other ❤️❤️❤️ and they’re back together now the writers can’t do shit about that :)
Zaya: MY BABIES😍😍😍 my first favorite ship of all time! Their build up was AMAZING AND WORTH THE WAIT👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 They have amazing chemistry, a beautiful friendship, they clearly love each other to pieces, they never gave up on each other even when they were with other people, and that gross NC storyline only happened because the writers hated Zig for whatever reason. That never would have happened otherwise!! Zaya is just, beautiful. Season 14 was amazing because of them. Season 4/18 did a great job bringing them back together. I’m sad they didn’t kiss but oh well, WE GOT PROM ZAYA AND CUDDLY ZAYA AND THEY SAID THEY ALWAYS PICTURED GOING TO PROM TOGETHER LIKE 😍😍😍. So yeah fuck the haters ZAYA IS BEAUTIFUL ZAYA IS AMAZING AND ZAYA IS ENDGAME!!!!!

DuckTales 2017 - The Shorts!
Tumblr media
Finally, I decided to talk about these.
PPG 2016 isn't the only reboot to have net-exclusive shorts, as Disney's YouTube channel had several DuckTales shorts across its first season.
Welcome to Duckberg!
A few months before the premiere of DuckTales 2017, Disney released these shorts to introduce everyone to the citizens of Duckberg. Namely, it focuses on the inhabits of the McDuck Manor. Most of these are just one joke premises, which is fitting because they aren't even a minute long.
Tumblr media
For example, here's one where Webby is sneaking around in a dark place, aiming for some sort of ancient artifact with her various gadgets. This was online before the very first episode, so this is actually our first look at the new Webby. No longer is she just the "little girl" of the group; she seems to be a spy in training with her night vision goggles, her glowstick, and her grappling hook!
This ancient artifact turns out to be a cookie jar, and the only cookie left is one of the common yuck cookies: oatmeal raisin. Hey, I'd eat it. Dewey shows up specifically to tell Webby that he's eating the last chocolate chip. That's kind of mean.
Tumblr media
Then this happens. Yeah, that doesn't look like anger, it looks more like demonic possession. There's a similar short with the new Mrs. Beakley, where she easily takes care of a ghost that the boys were struggling with. It makes sense, as these characters have huge changes from the classic DuckTales. They might as well show them off.
Tumblr media
There's a Huey short, featuring a character that looks a lot like the Tenderfeet. Thankfully, he doesn't talk or do any "devil in plain sight" gags, he's just here to show off that Huey is the one that reads that Junior Woodchuck Guidebook the most. Definitely his best performance, but that isn't saying a lot.
There's no real Dewey-focused short beyond his appearance in the Webby short. There is kind of a Louie short, involving a "time machine" that, oddly enough, works exactly like the time machine in that one episode of the other reboot. Thankfully, this reboot only made it a minute long short, and it works okay.
Tumblr media
The biggest highlight is this short with Launchpad McQuack, and it's completely fitting of his character. I don't even want to talk about it; it would ruin the magic of watching the actual short.
Tumblr media
There's also one for Donald Duck's years-not-shown birthday, which oddly wasn't included in the compilation. This is a shame, because it's a decent joke. Again, it's just the one, and it's not as good as the Launchpad one. Then again, very few things are.
The next series of shorts is a lot more interesting, as they all fit together into one short, released in minute-long chunks throughout a month. Fittingly enough, it happens to be called...
The World’s Longest Deathtrap!
Tumblr media
The episode begins with Webby landing in the titular deathtrap, with Dewey. I guess they felt sorry that he didn't get a short of his own, since we get a lot more Dewey here.
Unfortunately, due to Dewey not being too bright, he presses a button that causes the deathtrap to activate, causing the walls to very slowly close in on them. Webby theorizes that this deathtrap has aged very poorly over the centuries it existed.
Tumblr media
When I saw these pop up on YouTube, I was thinking this was just a joke video with nothing really happening. This couldn't be further from the truth. One part is pretty much entirely "Launchpad doesn't know how to rescue people from a hole", and it's absolutely hilarious.
Tumblr media
Eventually, everyone except for Scrooge, who is absent entirely from these series of shorts, ends up in the deathtrap. They keep unintentionally activating even more traps, before Huey drops in and tries to use his Junior Woodchuck Guidebook to help out. In a way, it worked. How? Watch to find out.
I would not be surprised if this short started out as either a scene in an episode or a whole episode in itself, but they either felt it was too throwaway, or that they ran out of ideas. It's a good watch.
Dewey Dew-Night!
Tumblr media
Aw, yeah. The talk show introduced in Day of the Only Child gets its first big expansion here. The main plot is that Dewey wants his talk show to become popular on the internet, so he tries his best to get the best guests, the best sketches, and the best Dewey he can muster to get those sweet sweet thumbs ups. It's just as funny as it was in Day of the Only Child, though I do wish those cardboard cutouts returned.
The first short focuses on Webby. It's sort of funny in that everything is just awkward, as if he's making this all up as he goes along. Fitting!
Tumblr media
They're still trying to make Manny the Headless Horse a thing. Maybe there's some people who really like him, but I found him more of an "eh" character. Dewey doesn't seem to like him either; his original guest was supposed to be Scrooge McDuck. Unfortunately, he decided Dewey Dew-Night was well below him, much to Dewey's derision. Whether it was unfortunate for Dewey or Scrooge is pretty obvious.
Tumblr media
He even tries to do segments, like "Will It Crash?", an parody of "Will It Blend?" Dewey apparently never realized that ship has sailed almost a decade ago, even if Launchpad is the highlight of all of these shorts. That is an accomplishment, actually, this series and the deathtrap one could work as B-plots.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, none of this seems to get him the audience he so desperately craves. He even keeps pointing towards his likes and dislikes, which eventually skews slightly towards the latter. He seems to blame his audience for this, but he understands. He decides to try to go on a unicycle and jump over a cat. A real cat, by the way; I can’t help but notice when they use non-anthropomorphic animals.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, any attempt to actually finish this stunt was ruined because the rest of the boys were tired. There is a hidden joke here, where Dewey thinks that because it's a late night talk show, it's supposed to be filmed at night, too. If only he knew.
Oh, and there's this really good running gag with Glomgold throughout this entire series of shorts.
Dewey: Apologies to Flintheart Glomgold, who had to be bumped.
Glomgold: (off-screen) WHAT?!
I like how it is implied that Glomgold successfully infiltrated the McDuck Mansion, but just can't wait to be on this completely legitimate talk show. Best of all, it has an actual payoff. All in all, a great way to use the format.
There are a few other shorts, but there's not much to say about them. There's Webby Reacts, a series where Webby Vanderquack does an in-character reaction to various Disney Channel programs. It did remind me of the very short lived revival of Beavis and Butt-Head, where they had segments where they talked over MTV's other programming.
Tumblr media
The other is DuckFAILS, which is just the nephews, the honorary niece, and Launchpad failing to do things in glorious stop motion. I guess Scrooge McDuck had a "no failing" clause. I can't insult the amount of time it would take to make these, and this seems like something that would be fun to see between shows.
I'm sad that they didn't do anything like this to tide us over during this current hiatus...but I guess that's what I'm doing, at least.

I don't have any brio prompts, sorry. But I'd love to hear your thoughts on either (or both!) Annie or Ruby/Stan this episode. I know it's not much happier than the Rio stuff, but (not) surprisingly for a show about "the three women," it's hard to find any discussion about Annie or Ruby unless it is about how they relate to Beth (wow, I'm saltier than I thought today).
Tumblr media
I’m still so incredibly salty about Rio so I getchu.
It’s funny, I actually really enjoyed the episode and would’ve been so geared up to talk about everything about it -- until It Happened. I actually forgot anything else came before it, I was so horrified. But yeah, I’d love to talk about the rest!
Firstly I have to say that Annie’s hostage pics were amazing. Truly the funniest shit, I stan a legend. Also her breaking into Lucy’s house, kidnapping Au Jus and running out wearing the oven mitt? And her sawing through that sub with her gym key? Hehehehe I adore her so much (also her hair looked fab this episode, I have to mention).
I was surprised, after the breakthrough last episode, that they didn’t immediately make her take steps toward her healing. The fact that they didn’t makes me think the doctor is coming back into play soon (especially since we know he sticks around for a good few episodes yet). I still hope they won’t get romantically involved, but I’m not super optimistic.
Overall I really just hope she can get her shit semi-sorted in a way that makes her not feel ashamed in front of Ben. I feel like that’s been her struggle since the very beginning and I feel for her never being allowed to grow past that. She can still be a mess, but maybe just not in ways that make her feel like absolute shit in front of the person most important her to her in the world? Idk.
As for Stan, I actually knew that he knew about Sara (though I thought it would be his own intuition, not that she’d told him) so I was happy about that development. I was not as happy that he continued casting these open aspersions on Ruby’s character and thinking it’s chill (this is something Ben has been doing to Annie a lot this season as well, and as the two most emotionally intelligent men on this show, it has constantly felt out of left field to me).
I keep watching Stan’s scenes trying to figure out where on earth any of this is going because Manny really hyped Stan’s storyline this season, but so far I’m getting nothing. (Divorce is the obvious one, but they made it too explicit in the episode for me to think they’ll run with that again later, because then it wouldn’t have any Shock Value.) I’m guessing his job will factor into it, though.
Do you have any ideas?

Woman series episode few “ woman doesn’t act like he wants to be cured”
when we last left off woman just found out he was a demon. He didn’t know what do so he watched tv but not in a sexual way. One daytim a woman named man found a hammer in a house she was trying to rob. “shit this hammer is a cool one” “thank you” the hammer said “ oh shit you just scared the shit out of me” “oh shit sorry” said the hammer “ how the shit can you talk?” “because I shitting feel like it” “oh goddamn” all this curse swearing cought the attention of woman. Woman wanted to know what the actual fuck was going on so he called out for hammer. “hammer where in fuck are you?” “I upstairs with a bitch” “ooh key” woman than walked upstairs and sees hammer just chilling. Man love tapped woman with hammer. “what in shit?” “you act like I wanna be cured! Personally, I like the disease” woman than started chasing man around with hammer. Woman was saying “ manny? Come on manny don’t you wanna hang out with me?” let’s have some beef jerky! Talk about it!” man said “woman! stop that!” suddenly an angel by the name of angel teleported and grabbed woman and said “it’s over now woman!”  angel took woman to a room in the house with a devil’s trap. Man had 8 serin jiz with her blood in them. She injected woman and woman screamed, he suddenly remembered all the good times they had together in the sexual way. Woman remebered how much he loved man and he proud of them. His black eyes disappeared. And woman said “you look worried fellas” woman man and woman decided to live together in harmony but not in the sexual way woman descided to go on a walk while he was walking he found something on the ground. What did he find on the floor? A goddamn hammer “oh shit I found a damn friend for my friend” so he baught the hammer home. The hammer named was bitch. Bitch and hammer loved each other. They loved eating. Now what the actual fuck do hammers eat? Nails, but not in the sexual way. Woman went to the store of hard where. Woman went to the hammer aisle and purchased a shitload of nails. Now these nails were fucking amazing. to the two hammers, the nails tasted like high quality steel which was a good thing. Woman and man were curious, but not in the sexual way, about the taste of the nails. The two axed the two hammers for a taste “why the hell not” the hammers said. The taste of the nails were discribed as “chocolaty and naily”.and with that they died sadly never before the beginning.

The AG Team At The Movies
It's lights, music and a double-bill of action, as we at AG each select our two fave movies for a desert island filmfest. DVD player supplied…
Garry Coward-Williams, editor
I love old black and white films. Without modern special effects they utilised dramatic lighting, specially written film scores and characterful acting to tell their stories and I think they’re all the better for it.
Great Expectations (1946)
Kindness, malice, friendship, deceit, snobbishness and wastefulness abound in this beautiful monochromatic re-telling of a Dickens classic about a young man who is gifted great wealth from a mysterious benefactor and becomes ruined by it.
The opening scene of Pip on the bleak Kent marshes walking past the gibbet, to visit his parent’s graves and then getting frightened out of his wits by the convict Magwitch is a masterpiece of drama and cinematography.
A first class cast with outstanding performances from Bernard Miles as the blacksmith Joe Gargery and Finlay Currie as Magwitch. Also film debuts for Alec Guinness as Herbert Pocket and Jean Simmons as the spiteful young Estella.
The Lavender Hill Mob is a true Ealing Comedy classic
The Lavender Hill Mob (194)
An Ealing Studios classic, in which a mild mannered, obsequious bank clerk, Alec Guinness, secretly desires to be a master criminal and hatches a plan to steal a van carrying gold bullion.
He teams up with Stanley Holloway who has the means to melt the bullion into statuettes of the Eiffel Tower and they recruit two professional criminals (Alfie Bass and Sid James) to complete the gang.
This story is about friendship and the coming together of the middle and working classes to realise a shared goal — the bullion. Of course the plan ultimately fails, but the friendships and trust remain in a truly uplifting film.
This was Audrey Hepburn’s film debut and it was a career game-changer for the then unknown Sid James as scriptwriters Galton and Simpson recruited him for Hancock’s Half Hour as consequence of seeing it at the cinema.

I love films with a sense of humour with the thread of a love story woven in, two of my favourites are Corina Corina and Mamma Mia. I’ve snuggled down to watch them both in lockdown and if you’re not familiar with them I highly recommend them.
Corrina Corrina
Set a deeply segregated LA in the 1950s, Ray Liotta’s character Manny is forced to hire a housekeeper after the tragic death of his wife. His withdrawn daughter soon bonds with Corrina played by Whoopi Goldberg and they have many adventures.
Corrina Corrina is ‘a charming and frequently hilarious tale’
Without knowing it and to the great disapproval of his neighbours, Manny begins to fall in love with his housekeeper as her influence helps his daughter with her trauma. It’s a charming and frequently hilarious tale that tugs at your heart strings and has a happy ending.
Mamma Mia!
This romantic musical comedy is inspired by one of my all time favourite bands, ABBA! It’s the unlikely but very funny tale of a girl about to marry on a Mediterranean island who has invited three of her mother’s lovers in hope of finding her real father.
With Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters and Colin Firth in the cast it was always going to be a great sing along hit even if some of the singing is a little unorthodox. It’s a great comfort film with many classic ABBA hits and who cares if the story line is a little contrived.

Two films I never tire of watching are Brief Encounter and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Two very different films and chosen for very different reasons.
Brief Encounter is a 1945 black & white film directed by David Lean with the story by Noël Coward. It stars Celia Johnson as Laura and Trevor Howard as Alec – two strangers who fall in love after meeting at a railway station.
They’re both happily married, but after they start talking, meet again and arrange to go out to lunch, they realise they are attracted to each other – and they fall in love.

The story shows the guilt felt by Laura as she starts to tell lies to her husband to cover up her clandestine meetings, and how she is torn between her comfortable life as a housewife and an exciting affair.
By today’s standards it’s all very tame – nothing actually happens apart from a few passionate kisses – but you can feel her dilemma. The pent-up emotion must have been very potent and risqué in the 1940s.
In fact, the film was banned in Ireland at the time because it was deemed to portray adultery in a sympathetic light. It’s a classic.
Star Wars, or Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope as it was later labelled, was the first Star Wars film, being released in 1977. It was written and directed by George Lucas, and starred Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.
I don’t think this Star Wars film can be equalled. It introduces us to the characters, has the good v evil storyline, plus battles, humour and romance. I love watching the attack on the Death Star and the first use of the now famous phrase, “May the Force be with you.” It’s a fantastic movie.

When I was nine my dad took me to the cinema – Dorchester Plaza if memory serves – to see the biggest word-of-mouth event in cinema history, a small-budget sci-fi film called Star Wars.
It wasn’t particularly dad’s things (I think he preferred Airplane!) but I nagged him into submission and from that day, from the minute the iconic credits rolled and the space cruiser loomed overhead (come on, admit it, you ducked the first time too, didn’t you) cinema opened up a whole new world for me.
Star Wars – now known as Episode IV A New Hope – is basically cowboys and Indians in space, right down to the baddest baddie of them all being clad head-to-toe in black.
The Force is strong with Star Wars
It has everything. Space battles, clear-cut good and evil, a beautiful, no-mess princess who can handle a blaster gun, a ‘walking carpet’ Wookie, explosions, romance (OK, potentially incestuous romance but they deftly dodged that bullet in Return of the Jedi) and cute, bickering robots.
And then, of course, it has swashbuckling, wisecracking space pirate Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and sweet, slightly dim farmboy Luke Skywalker (Mark Hammill, who has aged into quite the silver fox). Be still my beating heart. I was as in love as only a nine-year-old can be and that flaming ardour (for the film as well as the leading men) still burns as brightly as it did 43 years ago.

The other film I’d take is… is… oh boy this was really tough. Princess Bride? Gosford Park? LOTR: Return of the King? Magnificent Seven? Where Eagles Dare? Terminator 2? True Romance? Sense and Sensibility? Maybe even What We Did on our Holidays.
I’m settling for Pride, the historical comedy-drama about a group of lesbian and gay activists in London who raised money for striking Welsh miners in 1984 when they realised the cops had stopped harassing them and moved onto a more political target.
It is a wonderful story of hard-pressed communities, political victimization and demolished prejudices and it boasts an epic cast: Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Andrew Scott, Monica Dolan, Paddy Consadine, Dominic West and George MacKay among others.
Moving, hilarious, life affirming and tragic, not a moment of screen time is flabby or wasted and I defy anyone not to get watery-eyed at the end when the miners turn up to support the LGBT activists at their rally.

Treachery, celebrity, kick-ass women, road trips and redemptive friendships: All About Eve and Almost Famous seem like peculiar bedfellows for a double bill, but they are kindred spirits of cinematic storytelling.
In All About Eve, Bette Davis redefined tragicomedy with her portrayal of ageing theatre darling Margot Channing, a brilliant yet brittle performer at the top of her profession in the 1950s who sees her star fading – only to be upstaged by conniving, fame-hungry Eve, ruthlessly dismantling the older woman’s career, relationships and reputation with a grin.
This tour de force of tears and tantrums pivots on barbed emotional swagger and deliciously dry one-liners, including the legendary: “Fasten your seatbelts – it’s going to be a bumpy night.”
Almost Famous is a stunning ‘rocktacular’ about real friendship
Then comes Almost Famous, a ‘rocktacular’ based on the life of music writer Cameron Crowe in the 1970s, where a band that ‘just wants to be cool’ meets 15-year-old fan boy William Miller. Adorable wunderkind writer Miller winds up trailing this temperamental group of incendiary reprobates for a Rolling Stone cover story on a journey that feels like Alice In Wonderland meets Spinal Tap.
Between domineering mothers, belligerent editorial staff, misguided groupies and egotistical musicians, idealistic William fights to retain his values and objectivity in an odyssey of drugs, stomach pumps, sheepskin coats, malfunctioning airplanes and awesome grooves, while valiantly trying to write his first published article. As he walks the line between duty and friendship, he learns the most profound lesson: “The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone when you’re uncool.”
Decades apart in tone, styling and cultural mores, this is an enduring partnership of solid gold classics showcasing the stuff that makes life worth living. To be watched over and over, with dirty martinis and tie-dye bellbottoms.

  Let’s keep gardening!
One of the great things about lockdown was that more people discovered the joy of gardening and growing things and we greatly hope that this won’t wear off now that ‘normal’ life has resumed.
This blog is an insight into what the AG team is up in their gardens, what we like to grow, what we pick and harvest, what’s worked for us and what hasn’t – because like everyone, things go wrong for us too!
Our gardening ‘agony uncle’ John Negus is also still working hard. Send him your problems and questions, with pictures if you can, and he will get back to you with an answer within 24 hours, as he has been doing for decades. Contact him using the AG email address at: [email protected]

We already have thriving Facebook page but are also on Twitter and Instagram. These sites are a brilliant way of chatting to people, sharing news, information, pictures and just saying hello –we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Best of all, as gardeners are generally lovely folk, more interested in plants, hedgehogs, tea and cake than political shenanigans and point-scoring, so the chat is friendly and welcoming.

Dear you,
I have seen your face every day for five hundred and ten days, you are a constant. In the beginning, I didn’t know, I knew you were there, and that you were different than anyone I had ever met, though I realize that’s cliché, every thought I have of you always is.
For a really long time I’ve felt alone, which is my fault, I forced myself to be alone a lot, forced myself to not want to be a part of something. I couldn’t tell you why I did that, I still honestly don’t know, I think it’s the reason I tell people too much too soon and scare them away because for the longest time I didn’t have anyone to share them with. You made me feel less alone from the beginning.
I don’t remember when it happened, maybe the first time you kissed me, or the first time I saw you, but you’ve meant the world to me for a while now. I wish I could pinpoint the moment so that I could keep it forever, but I don’t have one, maybe you do, and you’ll share it with me one day. I hope you do, maybe then I won’t doubt myself so much.
I try not to show it, but I’m scared. I’ve had so many people fake things with me, so many people lie or try to control me. I used to be so gullible, so easily coerced into things, or back into things. It took me forever to finally learn my lesson, and I’ll bare those scars my whole life when those knives went through my back into my heart too many times. I’m scared you’re not real, that this isn’t real, I’m going to struggle with that, and I know it’ll be annoying, but I’ll need your reassurance a lot, I’m trying not to need it.
You haven’t seen me at my worst, truthfully no one has. When I was a sophomore and junior I didn’t have any friends, I had a few, but none I ever talked to, none that would ever listen. Junior year my life got so toxic and painful I thought I was going to end it. I don’t know if I would call it suicidal, but a lot of the time I would wish for car accidents, that I’d trip and fall down the stairs of my grandpa’s and break my neck, I was always hoping for the worst. I struggled, and no one was there to pull me out of the grave-sized hole I dug myself into because the only person to blame, and the only person I had was myself. I realized then that I had to stop depending on people, I had to stop wishing someone would save me even though I wasn’t asking for help.
You are the light that I didn’t know I needed. You fit into my life the moment I needed you. If I believed in angels, you’d be mine. You’ve helped me more than you will ever know. You make all my days brighter even when I’m begging for the rain and clouds.
I still have bad days, you know that some are worse than others, sometimes I still wish I wasn’t alive, but you give me a reason to. You are my reason to breathe and to see and to feel. I love being with you. I love sleeping with you. I love being in your presence. I love when you wrap your arms around me, and when you pull me close at night. I love waking up to you. I love watching movies with you. I love laughing with you. I love going to target with you, and how you must walk up every aisle. I love seeing you smile especially when I cause it. I love watching you play video games, and how even though you’re playing you still in some way are touching me. I love watching the office with you and listening to you quote things in every episode. I love where we are, and why we are. I love how you fit into my heart and make me feel. I’m more in love with you than I’ve ever been with anyone, and I’m still wondering why that is.
Everyone I’ve dated before hasn’t felt like you do. They always started quickly, and it took me four hundred and something days to realize that you actually liked me. I grew tired of everyone else quickly, every day seemed to repeat itself and I was getting and giving the same words; I would get bored of repeating myself, of arguing over the same stupid things, doing the same things every day. But with you every day feels new. Every conversation is different, every night is different in some way, and so is every morning. You make my heart flutter every time I see you, I still get butterflies every time I’m on my way over to your place, even though I’ve known you for almost two years, even though we’ve hung out a hundred times.
You’re always on my mind. There isn’t a moment that I can get you to leave my thoughts alone, which is a blessing and a curse. I want to spend more time with you, I want to sit in silence and work on homework together and sit beside you while I read, and you play video games. I want to cuddle up outside by a fire when it’s cold and watch the stars. I want to dance and sing with you, even though I never do either in front of people. I want to stay up all night talking about anything and everything; I want to know your fears and your hopes, and what you want for your future. I want to bake with you on a Sunday afternoon and cook dinner for you that night. I want to argue and push you. I want to get on your nerves and work things out with you just so I know that you’re the kind of person that fixes a slightly broken toy instead of throwing it away and getting a new one. I want to lay in the grass with you in the summer and watch the clouds. I want to go out and try new things with you, experience new things so that you’re always in my memory even if things go bad. I want to tell you all my secrets, and the story of my life, even though I know you don’t want to hear it, even though you might find it boring. I want you to think of me often. I want to distract you during the day. I want you to think of me when you see white roses, my favorite flower, even though you don’t know that yet. I want you to think of me when you see certain things throughout your day that bring back happy memories of me. I want you to meet my mom and realize where I came from. I want you to meet my dad and realize why I’m so stubborn and strong-willed, and so bad at making decisions. I want you to meet my grandma and see where my love for cooking, knitting, teaching, and writing came from. I want to take you to the house I grew up in and tell you stupid stories like the time my mom almost washed my hamster or that my favorite show was an anime called Clannad that I still love to this day because I want the same kind of love that it showed. I want to tell you that my favorite place in the world is on that deck when the moon is full because it would shine on all the white houses behind mine and light up everything. I want to tell you about all the nights I stayed up late on the deck with my Ipad looking at the stars. I want to tell you the people who lived next door and how we used to steal their raspberries during the summer, and that’s why I still love them so much. I want to tell you about how my first cat died in my arms and how terrible it made me feel. I want to show you the locket with her picture in it and realize how much she meant to me. I want to bring you up to my cabin and show you pictures of what it used to look like. I want you to imagine me as a little girl running around there and jumping in the lake and chasing frogs and petting the dogs that would visit from next door. I want to bring you up there to show you it’s beauty and how much that place means to me, even though there’s no wifi or service there. I want to make new memories there with you. I want to take you on the pontoon and the jet ski and show you all the beautiful properties up there, and how one day I want to own one of them on my own, so my kids can have the same memories that I cherished so much. I want to bring you to where my grandma is buried and talk about what I knew about her. I want you to understand that she’s the reason that I try to be nice to everyone I meet because I don’t know what’s going on in their lives or what they’re currently dealing with. I want to tell you about how she would pick people up off the street and bring them to her house for dinner, even if my grandpa didn’t agree with who they were or their lifestyle. I want to tell you about how scared I am for when my other grandma dies and how that will be a tornado in my life and rip a hole in my heart. I want you to meet all my little cousins that I love so much, and I want them to like you. I want to show you how much my family and friends really mean to me. I want to tell you about Dani, and why I hold my friends and the people I surround myself with to such high standards. I want you to understand me and where I came from and why I am who I am. I want you to know everything, and I realize that will take a really long time, but I’m okay with going slow.
There is so much I want you to know and feel. I hope we have enough time. I hope you see in me what I see in you. I love listening to your voice and watching you do anything; it makes me happy just to be around you, even if we’re not doing anything special, even if it’s just for ten minutes on your birthday in my cul-de-sac. I want to make memories with you. I hope someday I’ll let you read this, or that I’ll at least be able to look back at it and remember how you made me feel. Sometimes I feel stupid writing about you because there’s always a chance you’ll read it too soon or too late and I’ll be embarrassed about having these feelings so soon, but I feel like I’ve known you for such a long time so I hope that whenever it is that you’re reading this that you won’t make too much fun of me and that you will want to hear all the things I have to say, no matter how good or bad they are. You make me so happy. I’m at a point where I don’t care what happens to me because I know you’ll be there for me, whether I win the lottery or lose all hope in the world. I hope you know that you mean everything too me, even if that’s too forward to say right now. I’m in love with everything about you, even if you shave your head.
Sincerely,
Manny
