Supergirl the show poses a question: Who is the real Kara?
Kara Zor-El, Kara Danvers, Supergirl. Who's the mask?
Tumblr media
In the beginning, Kara doesn't even know. In the aftermath of Krypton's and Kenny's deaths, she did everything she could to appear as normal as possible - there was little room for her own innate traits to shine through when she was being as nondescript and people-pleasing as possible.
But that's not who Kara is.
Tumblr media
We get the first glimpse of who Kara really is during Flight 237.
This is not about her being Supergirl or her powers (though both are relevant). Kara has suppressed herself for over a decade. She's not going to make waves - until she has to. Our first real insight into who Kara is now is as a devoted sister. It wasn't until Alex's life was at risk that Kara started breaking out of her shell (and then there was no holding back).
Our protagonist is a mid-20s adult - this isn't a coming-of-age story in the traditional sense. But it is a story of finding oneself and what it takes to get there.
And it starts with defending found family after a lifetime of loss.
Tumblr media
So Kara creates the Supergirl persona. I think the cape is a crutch.
People say "a crutch" like it's a bad thing. But crutches are actually pretty fucking useful. They support you when you need it, whether it be short-term or long-term. They help you get around when you otherwise may not be able to.
Kara was deeply traumatized by losing everyone and everything she ever knew, being thrown into a world that overwhelmed her senses and made even her most casual movements into dangerous ones, and was told she needed to suppress everything - who she used to be, what she was going through now - to survive.
To find herself again, maybe she'd need a tool to get past what she had been through! The cape became that tool. She was able to unbury the heritage she had been hiding, she was able to embrace the powers that had burdened her, she was able to find her own bravery (and reactivity, she's got flaws in there too).
Keep in mind, in the scene above, Kara isn't "human for a day". Kara is powerless... just like she spent the first 13 years of her life. Her bravery isn't about her powers or Supergirl; they just help her get started.
That's not where her growth ends.
Tumblr media
Kara's instincts for helping people start getting unburied in season 1, and she is excited to tag along someone else's quest to figure out where future threats may lie, or figure out how she can use her powers in service to the DEO.
But it's not until this moment that she realizes that Kara Danvers can be more, too. Lena unintentionally launches Kara's career - a second pathway for Kara's desire to help people, growing into a passion she is going to pursue (even if she gets fired). Her worth is no longer just about her sun-granted powers or being Superman's "younger" cousin.
In season 4, we even see her realization that Kara Danvers can be more powerful than Supergirl, because some fights can't be won by fists. That's a real discovery for herself.
Which I think, looking back, might becoming especially baffling for her... because Kara Danvers was originally an identity imposed on her when she needed to hide.
Tumblr media
It's important to note that, while Kara Danvers was originally a facade that Kara gets at thirteen, she doesn't stay a facade - even in the suppression era.
We don't see enough of who Kara is when she's on Earth, left to her own devices. But we see glimpses - we know she likes baking (and we know we shouldn't try what she makes), we know she paints, we know she listens to NSync and Britney Spears. She's a goofball (even when she puts on the cape). Kara Danvers starts as a facade, but becomes a vehicle for Kara to continue developing her personality, now in her new context.
Would she have the same interests on Krypton? Maybe some and not others, maybe some new ones that don't exist on Earth. We're all products of our environments, after all. Her interests as Kara Danvers aren't necessarily fake just because they're different than what she expected.
Though she'll never know who she would've become on Krypton.
Tumblr media
Which brings us to Kara Zor-El - the identity that is frozen.
Most people aren't the same person as an adult that they were as a child. Interests, tastes, personality, world outlook, philosophy - all of these shift over time, sometimes dramatically.
Parts of her are going to be deeply rooted in Krypton, and she's going to have ties to a culture that no one else on Earth has. It's not an aspect of herself that she can erase. But it's also not an aspect of herself that was able to develop for the remainder of her childhood and early adulthood.
She, like all of us, was destined to lose pieces of herself. But some of her loss was very sudden, and the pieces she lost probably weren't going to be the same on Krypton. Of course, she has no way to know.
And I think that frustrates her.
Tumblr media
I guess my answer to "Who is Kara?" is that the three personalities clash with and harmonize with each other. None of them are truly her. All of them inform who she is.
There's a young Kara Zor-El as her root that was torn from the ground before she could ever grow.
There's a Kara Danvers who formed the bulk of her life - a mask that was given to her, the only vehicle for her personality, who ultimately became someone she could embrace as worthwhile in her own right.
There's a Supergirl who distinctly separates from those around her, but lets her move past her numbness and reclaim her heritage.
And it's that clash that makes her a particularly compelling character.
Maybe that's a cheating answer to the original question.
Tumblr media
But there's still a missing piece to the puzzle - because it's not just about Who is Kara? but also about Who does Kara want to be?
I think Supergirl is something that could fade if needed. If Kara lost her powers, she would find a new normal, so long as she was able to pursue her desire to help the world in some capacity.
But the truth of her is somewhere between Kara Danvers and Kara Zor-El. The truth of her is in what Supergirl allowed her to unbury, even if not directly tied to Supergirl herself. But Danvers and Zor-El are burdens, in a way. Lena is one of the few people who sees the person in between, who understands Kara on her own terms. Which is why Kara is terrified of Lena's rejection.
I think it's one of the most telling lines in the show - to be just Kara is to be free of her own baggage, to be able to embrace herself despite the pain in her history. Something I think we all want, that is never entirely possible.
But the pursuit is still a worthwhile one.

spy!au + meet messy + you never saw me
“So on a scale of 1-10, how much do we hate the fiancée?”
A wry laugh escapes before Kara can even try to quell it, and she briefly removes the unlit cigarette from her mouth to muse, “You know, I've heard a saying that goes ‘never judge a book by its cover.’ Fascinating stuff, I might have to send it to you.”
“Ugh. Journalists—so idealistic.” But Nia is grinning as she snags the barstool at Kara's right. “Where is the elusive Lena Luthor anyway? Do we finally get to meet her?”
Kara shrugs. “Beats me,” she says. “Last I heard, she was running late.”
“Late to her own engagement party? Finally, someone I can get along with,” Nia says. Before Kara can even get a word in, Nia's attention is immediately stolen by the bartender coming over. “Hey M’gann, can I get an amaretto sour?”
“Sure thing,” M’gann says absentmindedly, her gaze otherwise zeroing in firmly on Kara. “Danvers, you better not smoke in my bar.”
“I won't,” Kara swears, raising both hands in a show of innocence, and M'gann rolls her eyes.
“Journalists,” she echoes Nia's earlier sentiment, but with an entirely exasperated deeper meaning. “I'm putting Nia's drink on your tab.”
“Well in that case…” Nia twists around, already waving her hand as if to beckon someone over. “Make it two, Kara's buying a drink for the bride to be. Alex! Don't—I know you can see me, come here.”
For as much as Alex stressed the importance of everyone showing up tonight, she doesn't seem very…well, happy. And while Alex is not typically one to gush, Kara had expected at least a smidgen of joy on her sister's face, not the harried expression she's currently sporting.
“What?” Alex asks, eyes them both suspiciously while fidgeting as if she’d rather be anywhere else.
“Um, hello to you too,” Nia says. “Clearly, you need this. Where's your soon-to-be better half?”
Alex accepts the drink when Nia presses it in her hand but frowns, however slight, at the question. “She's—on her way,” she says, pausing to take a sip from her glass before her gaze falls on her sister. “Oh, gross, Kara. Since when do you smoke?”
“I don’t!” Kara pouts, feeling like a broken record. “Can’t I be edgy and have a cigarette to look cool?”
“That’s the most pretentious thing I’ve ever heard you say,” Nia says, delighted, while Alex just groans.
“Come on, Kara, not tonight. Just be normal for once in your life,” Alex sighs, already distractedly glancing back to the front door like she is willing her fiancée to just walk through any second.
“You guys don’t understand the intricacies of being a method actor,” Kara argues, waving her cigarette in the air to make her point. (And also, because it is kind of awkward to keep it in her mouth without doing anything with it, not that she’ll admit that). But it’s clear she only has half the audience she had a second ago; Alex is half a world away the second her phone starts to ring.
“I’ll be back,” Alex says, handing off her glass to Nia who is more than happy to finish it.
Kara dejectedly puts the cigarette back in her mouth. “I just realized something.”
“What?”
“I don’t actually know how to smoke. What if someone expects me to, like, smoke with them?”
Nia presses a fingertip to her chin and  ponders the question seriously. “Either you're screwed, or they will just think you're a dork. The reaction will depend on the person, really.”
Kara's shoulders slump. “So I won't be cool?”
“Journalists generally aren't cool,” Nia unhelpfully offers. “But I'm sure you could make it work for you. You'd be like…one of those grizzly story-seeking sleuth journalists.”
Kara groans, thumping her forehead on the bartop. “That seems more like a private investigator thing,” she says. “Darn it. I'm going to have to start from scratch.”
“I'm all in favor of quitting method acting for one night,” M'gann chimes in, still eyeing Kara's cigarette distastefully. “Now do you need a refill or are you going to fall asleep here?”
“Yeah, sure,” Kara says, lifting her head in order to sheepishly push her emptied club soda over. “Pour me a double.”
That joke never lands—M'gann just rolls her eyes and refills the glass, wiping her hands off before moving down to another patron. Nia scoots her stool closer to Kara once she's gone to reassuringly say,
“I like the pretentious cigarette. It makes you look like a hipster…they’re coming back into fashion, you know. Just like leg warmers.”
Kara wrinkles her nose. “I don’t think anyone really liked leg warmers.”
“That’s how I know you were unfashionable in high school,” Nia says. Then, apparently already bored with the topic at hand, she turns around in search of their former company. “Hey, where did Alex go? I haven’t even bought her a round of shots yet!”
“That’s a good question,” Kara says thoughtfully. “Maybe Lena showed up?” But when she swivels her chair to aid Nia’s search, she can't spot her sister either; considering Al’s Bar is a hole in the wall with not many patrons, that can only mean Alex has stepped out. “I'll go find her.”
All things considered, the night is pleasant—when Kara emerges without her jacket, the air isn't quite cool enough to make her go back in to retrieve it. She walks around the corner to the alley where everyone goes to smoke, but Alex isn’t there. Alex is also not in the 7-11 across the street, nor is she two doors down at the diner. (Kara orders a donut to go just to be 100% sure Alex won’t emerge from somewhere inside, of course, like a diligent sister).
Eventually, her pointless search leads her right back to Al’s. Nia has apparently had enough alcohol to drag Kelly to dance; Winn and James have begun a spirited game of pool; Querl has commandeered the jukebox and is studiously adding 80’s dance music to the queue. Alex, however, is still notably missing.
With a groan, Kara collapses at the bar again. “Can I get a water, M’gann?”
“You got it,” M’gann says, filling a fresh glass from the tap. She moves on immediately after to another customer, and Kara’s question about whether M’gann has seen Alex dies before it even forms. Kara sighs, takes a much-needed sip of her water, and resolves to just melt into her stool when all of a sudden she hears:
“Is this seat taken?”
It should be noted that, in the past, Kara has encountered situations far worse than this one. Moments where her life was in danger, even. She likes to think she has mastered the ability to remain unfazed in the face of the worst surprises at this point of her career.
But then again…she’s never actually met her sister’s fiancée before. And in a truly horrific turn of events, Kara ends up spit-taking all over her shoes.
“Oh crap, I am so sorry,” Kara says, making a mad grab for napkins off the bar and crouching down to pat at Lena’s heels. “Are you—okay, can I get, er, anything—” She doesn't even know how to apologize at this point, so tongue-tied she is just about to offer her own shoes off her feet.
Lena Luthor doesn't answer right away. She takes a delicate step down, and her hand covers Kara's in order to make her pause. When Kara musters the nerve to cautiously meet her eye, Lena gives her a small smile.
“It's fine.” Lena looks much more <i>vivid</i> than the photographs. Everything about her is sharp; the angles of her jaw, the eyeliner she wears, the intensity of her green eyes when they're trained on Kara. Even her voice edges on the sharper side, not quite cold but almost. “Kara, right? I recognize you from Alex's pictures.”
Kara barely remembers to nod. “Yes, I…recognize you too,” she says. “It's nice to meet you.”
“Likewise.” Lena draws her hand away immediately after, and Kara hastily rises up in order to put some space between them.
“Can I buy you a drink?” Kara asks quickly. “M'gann makes a great…sour.” She cannot for the life of her remember what it is that Nia ordered, and from the strange look on Lena’s face, she has 100% gotten the name wrong. “I don’t really drink.”
Somehow, that awkward confession makes Lena’s face twist, like she is trying not to smile. “Alex mentioned you’re sober,” she says. “I hope it’s alright, that she did.”
“No, yeah, it’s not a secret,” Kara says, but in her mind she’s thinking Alex and Lena talk about her? About what? Hopefully not embarrassing stuff. Shoot, knowing Alex, it’s 100% embarrassing stuff. “And I wouldn’t expect you to have any secrets with Alex either way, so.”
“Right.” Lena takes a careful seat besides Kara, her expression since gone entirely blank. She orders a scotch, Kara sticks to water, and they immediately maintain an awkward silence that M'gann raises a judgmental eyebrow at Kara for.
Kara clears her throat, desperate for any attempt of making nice she can muster. “So have you seen Alex?” she says.
“Today?” Lena has her glass raised to her lips, but she doesn't drink. “Not yet.”
“Oh. Well, I'm sure she's around here somewhere,” Kara says, and tries not to find it weird that Lena and Alex did not see each other at all today despite apparently living together.
This time Lena takes a long, thoughtful sip of her drink, and she turns her head to regard Kara silently. “Kara,” she says, as if testing the name all-too-carefully, practiced and halting like she wants to call Kara literally anything else. “Would it be a fair assessment to assume you don't like me?”
Kara’s grip on her glass falters in a single blink-or-miss-it second before she manages to control her surprise. “What?” she says weakly. “I know we don’t know each other, but, if Alex likes you of course I like you.” Flustered, she backtracks to say, “I mean Alex loves you. Obviously.”
Lena doesn’t put Kara out of her misery. At least, not right away. No, she just smooths out the imaginary wrinkles of her form-fitting dress that she has chosen to wear to this dive bar, drums her fingertips against the sticky wood of the bar counter, and gazes pensively beyond her company in a way that can only be described as lost. Then,
“I’m sorry. That wasn’t meant to be an accusation,” Lena says. “What I meant is, I'm sure you must despise the idea of me.” An attempt at a smile crosses Lena’s lips, but it’s a sad one. “Today was mostly about putting your mind at ease over any misconceptions you might have.”
“Well, I’ve only known about you for like a week, but I can honestly say I have zero thoughts about you,” Kara says quickly. Then frowns. “Wait. That was supposed to sound reassuring. Can I start over?”
The engagement ring on Lena’s finger shimmers even in the poor lighting, and she rests her cheek against her palm, gazing at Kara with a curious, half-amused kind of look in her eyes. “The floor’s yours.”
“I’m not the kind of person who assumes the worst about other people,” Kara says, reaching for her water again, if only to tip it towards Lena reassuringly before taking a quick sip. “And if you make Alex happy, then I can only assume you’re a good person. Also, you might be a saint to even put up with her.”
Lena’s mouth twists into a proper smile, however small. “The way you two talk about each other is so…” She shakes her head as if she can’t quite finish that thought. “You two are clearly very close.”
“Unfortunately, yeah, I'm stuck with her,” Kara quips, and that at least feels normal—talking about Alex is a safe topic. Even if she hasn’t bothered to come back to her own engagement party. “Do you have any siblings?”
“A brother.” Any semblance of a smile vanishes entirely at that, and Lena hastily finishes the remainder of her drink.
Kara gets the feeling she has said something horribly wrong. “And are you two also…close?” she finishes her train of thought awkwardly, even if she already knows the answer.
“No.” The stony way Lena clenches her jaw suggests that Kara isn't winning any brownie points, here, and she has to bite her tongue to stop from pushing on. “Excuse me, can I get another?” Lena beckons M’gann over when she has a second, and M’gann gives Kara another questioning look but doesn’t say anything to her directly.
“I’m sorry,” Kara feels the need to say. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.”
“Oddly enough, I believe you,” Lena muses. “You did mention your sister has hardly talked about me.”
“I'm sure she would've,” Kara tries to reassure her. “I just don't see her too much nowadays, with my work.”
“Mm. You’re a journalist, right?” Lena asks, and there is something in her gaze that makes Kara feel hot under the collar. “Or was it a kindergarten teacher? I know you and your sister have an affinity for switching careers.” Something about the calculated way she pauses to take a sip of her drink, gaze expectant over the rim, causes Kara's heart to plummet into her stomach.
Kara, in turn, promptly chokes on air. “What? You—you know? About—” She stops. “I’m not sure Alex was allowed to tell you that.”
“Not even if we're going to get married?” Slowly, Lena begins to smile. It's a real smile, one Kara hadn't realized Lena was capable of until now. “Your sister might be the most by-the-book person I've ever met. Unfortunately for her, I was able to connect the dots about you myself.”
“Ah.” Kara drums her fingertips against the bar counter, feels her cheeks warm slightly with embarrassment.
Lena places a hand on Kara's forearm—a warm, gentle heat Kara can feel through the thin sleeve of her T-shirt. “That was no fault of yours,” she says reassuringly. “She slipped up talking about your job. It was fairly easy to connect the dots.”
Somehow, that does nothing to dissolve the dread slowly building up in Kara’s chest. Alex never slips up. Kara is the resident Danvers sister fuck up (Alex’s words exactly), and all at once Alex’s disappearance tonight becomes decidedly unsettling.
“When did she tell you about my job?” Kara blurts out. “Do you remember?”
“Yesterday, I think,” Lena says, and she regards Kara questioningly. “She was telling me about everyone who was going to be here today and what your friends do for work. Why?”
“Was she working? Looking at her computer or her phone or anything?”
“Yes, that’s all she ever does.” But it’s odd, the way Lena says it, like she’s not bothered in the slightest.
It could be nothing. It probably is nothing. But Kara still scans the bar with a renewed vigor in search of that familiar scowl that she cannot find. “She was just here,” Kara mutters aloud. “She wouldn’t have left without telling someone.”
“Alex?” Lena watches Kara carefully, no doubt trying to decide what to say. “Has she not told you if she’s running late?”
“No, she was here already,” Kara says. “I don’t think she would have—” She shakes her head to herself, cursing inwardly. She can’t assume that Alex has been dragged away for a work reason. Maybe it has something to do with Alex getting cold feet. Either way, telling her sister’s fiancée that the woman she’s supposed to marry has abandoned her engagement party doesn’t seem like it would do Alex any favors. “I’m sure she’s just in the bathroom or something. Uh, I’m going to just…” She pulls out her cigarette in a poor cover and says, “Go outside, for a smoke break, if you don’t mind?”
“Not at all,” Lena says. Then, “Would it be alright if I joined you?”
If Nia knew that Kara’s stupid cigarette would have led to this moment, she would laugh her ass off. Repeatedly. Kara supposes it’s a small mercy that Nia is still dancing with Kelly, so she is spared of any and all jokes at her expense.
It’s not until they’re outside that Kara sheepishly confesses: “So full disclosure…I don’t actually smoke.”
Lena doesn't look particularly surprised at the fact. “It's an odd thing to lie about,” she says, and tilts her head, surveying Kara with a sharp look. “Oh,” she says afterward. “I’m sorry. Clearly, you lied to get away from me, and here I am following you around.”
Kara swallows. Hard. “It’s not that,” she says, even though it kind of is.
“It's okay.” Another touch, this time gently to Kara’s shoulder. Lena has a strange, half-wistful look on her face. “Take your break. I’ll go inside…I should introduce myself to Alex’s friends and keep it convincing.”
That is such a peculiar way to phrase an otherwise normal statement, and Kara feels her brow furrow subconsciously. “What?”
But Lena has turned away by the time Kara even forms the word, and Kara watches, bewildered, as Lena takes two steps forward before immediately whirling back around. There is no other way to describe it, but—Lena has gone sickly pale in the moonlight, as if she’s seen a ghost. Before Kara can ask what’s wrong, Lena has hurriedly bridged the gap between them and grasped Kara’s face with cold, shaking hands.
“Can you turn around?” Lena asks quietly.
Kara does, but she knows her cheeks have gone hot and red by now, so unaccustomed to both the proximity and the specific person before her. “Lena, what’s—”
“I have something very urgent to ask you, and please don’t overthink it,” Lena rushes to say.
“Okay.” Kara tries not to fidget; she has had a gun held to her head several times before and yet, this is the most overwhelmed she has felt in years.
“Can I kiss you?”
Kara blinks. “What?”
“Please,” Lena adds on, as if that makes the question any saner.
And maybe it’s the desperation in Lena’s voice, in her eyes, in the way she keeps on trembling, but Kara recognizes someone in danger. She doesn’t understand what on Earth is going on, but she slowly nods, and trusts that if Alex kicks her ass later it will be for a good cause.
(Kara is not, however, prepared for Lena to immediately kiss her like she’s starving, hands still tight against Kara’s cheeks, dragging Kara so close that Kara is essentially caging her against the wall).
It feels like forever, but not in a bad way. Kara hasn't kissed someone in so long that she feels clumsy, almost like she is outside of her own skin, hands falling against the gravel of the bar’s outside walls in order to stop herself from grabbing at the inviting curves of Lena’s waist.
When Lena gently pushes her away, Kara hastily steps back, digging her fingernails into the palms of her hands to keep from doing something dangerous (like reaching back in). Lena looks as if she's calmed down enough at least; she blushes when she meets Kara’s eyes, glancing down at the floor for a brief moment.
“Thank you,” Lena says. “God, if I was recognized out here of all places Alex would have lost it.”
“Recognized?” Kara echoes. She follows the way Lena jerks her head to the right, where the shadow of a man is disappearing into the alleyway. “I…don't follow.”
“That man used to work for my brother,” Lena sighs. “I don’t know if he would have remembered my face, but better safe than sorry.”
Kara opens her mouth, pauses, and then shuts it when she realizes she has no clue what to say. Her phone buzzes in an all-too-welcome distraction, but her blood runs cold when she sees it’s from Alex.
SENTINEL:
Can you tell everyone the party’s cancelled? Lena’s sick. Also let the cat back in before the night’s over.
“Shit,” Kara involuntarily curses when she sees that familiar code phrase. Suddenly everything makes sense: the secrecy, the mysterious brother, the fact that Lena cannot be recognized in the streets outside of a dive bar used as a front for the average spy (or average drunk that security allows in for the cover). “Lena, are you in witness protection?”
Lena squints at Kara like she is the one dropping a bombshell. “Yes? Did you not know that?”
“No! What the—why would Alex bring you here?!” Kara frantically texts her insane sister back.
SUPERGIRL:
Is there a curfew?
SENTINEL:
The sooner the better. I’m at Dad’s house right now or else I would do it myself.
That next coded message makes Kara exhale, finally, to at least know Alex is safe. Something big must have happened if she is dragging Kara into this without so much as a briefing, sure, but Kara also knows that Alex would not have trusted her with anything less.
“Lena,” Kara says, “can I ask you something urgent now?” She pauses when she immediately remembers the firm pressure of Lena’s lips, and quickly adds, “It doesn’t involve kissing.”
“Fair enough,” Lena says, enough amusement coloring her tone that Kara briefly flushes all over again.
“Can you trust me to get you home tonight?” Kara doesn’t wait for an answer before she goes on: “I know you don’t know me. But you know Alex. And I swear on my life, there is nothing I wouldn’t do for Alex, and by extension that means there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you.”
Lena nods along with every word slowly. “You take your job very seriously.”
“I do,” Kara says firmly. (And, hopefully, comfortingly).
“Then I trust you, Kara Danvers,” Lena says. “If that’s even your real name.”
And for a brief moment, Kara’s not a spy fighting a clock on a mission she knows nothing about; she is, instead, a normal person who is capable of seeing the humor of her almost-sister-in-law who definitely knows more than she has clearance for.
“It is,” Kara says—even deigns to smile before she can quell it. “By choice.”
“That sounds like there’s a story somewhere.”
“I’ll tell you all about it sometime,” Kara promises. “Maybe even tonight, if in exchange you tell me your real name.”
“Unfortunately, Lena Luthor is my real name,” Lena says. “Alex said it was fine to tell her friends, so, this party was her idea. She even came up with the marriage idea so when my last name is changed, no one will care.”
The cogs finally start turning in Kara’s head far slower than she cares to admit. “Hold on. So you and Alex aren’t actually engaged?”
Again, Lena stares at Kara like she’s grown two heads in the last thirty seconds. “No. You seriously didn’t know? I thought you were just being weird, Alex says you get really into your method-acting stuff.”
“No.” Strangely, the first thing Kara feels is relief; she doesn’t have to actually tell her sister that she kissed her future wife. The second thing is, quite reasonably, alarm. “Okay I don’t know what the hell is going on with your case, but you mentioned someone who used to work for your brother, right? How bad is the threat?”
Lena hesitates. “It’s…kind of a long story.”
“So really bad,” Kara fills in the blanks. “Crap. We need to go.” She quickly shrugs off her jacket and presses it into Lena’s hands. “Put this on. There are no cameras in this area, but we’re going to hit some when we get to the parking lot.”
“Is everything okay?” Lena asks, though she hurriedly does as Kara says.
“I’m sure it is,” Kara tries to assure her. “But it’s just a precaution until we can reunite you with Alex and confirm.”
Lena doesn’t seem like she believes Kara entirely—or at least, the way her expression remains a fraction confused definitely indicates as much. But at the very least, she does not argue, though she does make a point to ask, “Where is Alex?”
“She just got tied up at work.” Kara leads the way to the parking lot, careful to hover at Lena’s side on the off chance any threat might  materialize. “I don’t know where your current safe house is or if it’s been compromised, so I’m going to take you somewhere else. Is that okay?”
“Not like I have any choice,” Lena says wearily. “So am I not allowed to know when everything’s gone to shit? Or will everyone just keep telling me it’s okay when it’s not?”
Kara swings open the passenger side of James’s car (he’ll forgive her for this later) and waits for Lena to sit down. Lena doesn’t. “It’s—complicated,” she says.
“How so?” Lena crosses her arms and still does not move. Kara is still holding onto the car door, inadvertently standing too close; she feels strangely helpless when Lena looks right at her with eyes dark and determined.
“Full disclosure,” Kara reluctantly admits, “I…have no clue what’s going on with your case. I’ve been in the dark and Alex can't exactly  share the details through a text, so, the truth is I have no idea if everything has gone to shit. I know that is the very last thing you want to hear since I’m supposed to be protecting you, but—”
“Actually,” Lena says, and her look has softened, “that makes me trust you.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I appreciate that you will tell me upfront you don't know,” Lena says. She sways slightly closer, enough that Kara stiffens, but it's only to duck into the car after all.
Kara shuts the door only after a very brief pause. This should not be as hard as it feels. For a week she has been associating the idea of Lena Luthor as her sister’s fiancée and it’s tough to wrap her head around the fact that the opposite is true.
(And it has absolutely nothing to do with how attractive Lena is. Or that kiss. For the record.)
The dashboard of James’s car reads 7:19 PM; his radio is playing a news station; the gas tank is half full. Kara makes note of everything and decides she will drive as far as she possibly can before it hits empty.
Lena is quiet, at first. And while there is nothing special about the bumper-to-bumper traffic or the hazy street lights or the clouded night sky, Lena keeps her gaze trained outwards, head resting against the tinted window.
But then, “My brother killed twenty people.”
Kara grips onto the wheel and tries not to outwardly react. She has, of course, always had a terrible poker face. “Oh.”
“It gets worse,” Lena says uneasily. “I designed the technology he used to kill them.”
There is no possible response Kara can imagine which might be appropriate. In the end she settles for: “That actually doesn’t seem like a long story after all.”
“I assumed Alex would have told you that, at least.” Lena begins to drum a pattern with her fingertips against the center console. “Do you think the worst of me now?”
“I guess that depends,” Kara says slowly, “on whether you designed that technology for the purpose of killing people.”
Lena gives a curt, kind of disbelieving half-laugh, half-scoff. “They were nanobots,” she says. “I was trying to use them to cure cancer. But my brother…well, he didn’t see half the potential I did.”
Kara casts a quick glance at Lena, finds her staring straight ahead with a stony expression on her face. “Lena,” she says gently, “that doesn’t sound like it was at all your fault.”
“Everyone tells me that.” More rhythmic drumming, each beat more hesitant than the last. “I don’t know when I’ll start to believe it.”
When she was a kid, Kara had been thrown into the foster system with little more than heartache and a wish to find the cousin she never would. She had never felt so helpless—so unsure—and something about Lena’s guilt right now brings her right back to that moment. Like she’s just a little kid, knees pulled up to her chest, waiting for a sign that would never come.
“It’ll be hard,” Kara says softly. It has begun to drizzle rain, and she mindlessly sets the wipers, watching them flick back and forth as they wait for the light to turn green. “But it will get easier. I promise.”
“Odd thing to promise,” Lena notes, but Kara can feel her gaze burning against the side of her head, and Lena sounds…lighter, somehow. “Can I change the station?”
“Sure.” James will hate it, but Kara doesn’t mind. Lena chooses a jazz station that frequently breaks with static, and it’s by far the most peaceful hour-long drive Kara has had in a while.
They pull up to the safe house when the clock reads 8:34 PM and the rain has petered out; the air feels damp and thick with residual humidity, but otherwise, the tranquility of the quiet gives Kara a good feeling. Lena has fallen asleep in the passenger’s side, and Kara softly nudges her awake.
“Here,” Kara says, handing her James’s emergency bag once they make their way up the house steps. “This should have a change of clothes. They’ll be too big, but better than your dress at least…if you’re hungry there will be granola bars in the pantry. We can’t risk ordering anything else right now, unfortunately.” She digs into her pocket for the batch of safe house keys she has on all times and locates the right one, pressing it surely into Lena’s hand. “Until we know for sure if I’ll be briefed on your case or not, just…assume you’re going to be moved tomorrow. Also, you never saw me. Like, officially.”
Lena wipes at her eyes with her palm, absentmindedly smearing her mascara. “You’re going to leave me here?” she says, hugging James’s bag to her chest.
“No, of course not. I’m going to be sitting in the car, out here,” Kara says. “I just mean like in general, you know, if I don’t end up getting briefed on your case it would be all kinds of not-allowed to be talking to you. So if anyone asks…”
“Ah,” Lena says, “right. I’ll just make up a cover story for my cover story.”
“Yeah, you know, we need to protect the bureaucracies and all that,” Kara says. “If I'm even using that word the right way.”
“And you're supposed to be a journalist?” Lena smiles ever-so-slightly. “Good thing you're decent at your day job.”
“Only decent?” Kara feels her own mouth twitch with the promise of her own smile.
“I'd give you five stars on Yelp,” Lena says confidently, and Kara laughs, unable to stop herself from full-on grinning.
“Well if you need anything,” Kara says, and gestures over her shoulder to the car. “You know where I'll be.”
“Thank you.” Lena places a hand over Kara’s wrist, and just squeezes there briefly, her hand slightly cold but her touch overwhelmingly gentle. “Um. Would it be—would it be allowed to ask if you can stay with me inside, instead? I don't really want to be…alone.”
“That would make plausible deniability much harder to fake,” Kara tries to protest, but Lena is biting her lip and looking at Kara underneath mascara-smudged lashes and really, there is no other option but to cave. “…but I guess I could break a rule or two. Or twenty-seven.”
Lena smiles fully this time with obvious relief. “And here I thought I'd have to work harder to corrupt you.”
Kara pushes her glasses up her nose and says, “I’m a little concerned you were planning to corrupt me, but I mean. It’s one night.” She follows Lena inside when she opens the door, surveys the untouched room with a quick, satisfied glance. “Just as long as you don’t get me into trouble.”
“I’ll try my best not to,” Lena says, making a beeline for the couch to inspect James’s emergency bag; she pulls out an oversized T-shirt with an exhausted sigh. “Can you unzip me?” Already she’s pulling her hair off her shoulders, exposing the graceful slope of her neck, and Kara almost forgets to lock the door behind her.
“Y-yeah,” she stammers out, once again fiddling with the glasses that she doesn’t need, and she knows it right then and there: Lena Luthor will undoubtedly get her in trouble. And judging by the way Lena gazes so shyly at Kara over her shoulder, she knows it.
(But, well. In the grand scheme of things, Kara figures a little trouble never hurt anyone).

A oneshot where B!D gets really bad anxiety whenever one of her sisters are mad at her. She’s always worried they’ll never forgive her and there relationship will be forever ruined. Even though that never happens.
Tumblr media
ᕚ---ᕘ
The cold winter air came through the open balcony doors and slowly made the room freeze as a tense air spread between Alex and you. You, with a lump in your throat, felt the redhead's words cutting through the air like sharp daggers, ready to leave deep wounds in your heart.
Alex stood there, teeth clenched and eyes blazing with anger. "How can you be so ignorant? It's unbelievable how selfish you are!"
You, with a shiver running down your spine, tried in vain to hold back the tears. You never wanted it to turn into an argument. But Alex's words were like an uncontrollable fire that ate through your relationship, leaving you with no options to explain to her why you had taken the larger sum of money out of your shared bank account.
"Alex, let me explain. I just wanted to..." you started, but your voice was drowned in a sob. You knew you couldn't continue to defend yourself without spilling the beans about the birthday surprise. Those words wouldn't be heard anyway. Not in this frenzy of rage the redhead was currently in.
The eldest Danvers snorted and shook her head. "That's typical of you. Always ready with an excuse. You're just immature and incapable of taking responsibility for finances!"
The pain in your chest was almost unbearable. You just wanted peace again. You wanted everything to go back to how it was a few hours ago when you were laughing together and teasing each other. But this strife seemed unstoppable, a relentless storm that destroyed everything in its path.
Alex turned away abruptly, her hands balled into fists. "I can't take this anymore. I'm going to work." She spoke and you could only stand there silently, unable to act as your sister left the apartment, slamming the door behind her. Tears flowed freely down your cheeks as you stood in the silence of the deserted living room, surrounded by an endless feeling of loneliness.
A short while later, Kara flew into her apartment, her eyes wide in shock as she saw you. "What happened here? Are you okay?" she asked worriedly. You didn't say a word. Instead, you collapsed under the face of your own emotions. All you wanted was for this nightmare to end and for you to feel safe and loved again. But the pain you faced was too deep, and the wounds of the words said would take a long time to heal.
The blonde looked at her younger sister, your shaking body sitting on the floor, surrounded by a sea of tears. Her heart ached when she saw the look of despair on your face. "Come here, little one." Kara whispered softly as she knelt down and wrapped her arms around you. You sank into the embrace without resistance, clinging to Kara as if she were the only constant in a stormy sea.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” you sobbed quietly, your voice barely above an audible whisper. "Why can't I control myself when there is an argument?"
Kara stroked your back soothingly and placed a few kisses on the top of your head. "It's okay, sweetie. Sometimes our emotions are overwhelming, and that's completely normal. Plus, it shows that Alex means a lot to you."
You raised your head, tears shining in your eyes. "But why does this always happen? Why can't I just be strong and overlook it?"
Kara sighed quietly. She had asked herself this question many times in the last few months about why you always reacted so emotionally to arguments, but she didn't know the answer. She carefully brushed a strand of your hair out of your face and looked deeply into your eyes. "Perhaps there are reasons that lie deeper. Reasons that you may not yet understand."
You swallowed hard, a look of realization crossing your face. "I think I'm scared. Scared that I'll lose one of you as soon as an argument arises. That eventually none of you will forgive me and that I'll ruin my relationship with you forever."
The blonde felt a pang in her own heart when she heard the words come out of your mouth. She knew your fears were deep-rooted and wouldn't just go away. But she was also determined to help you and show you that you were loved and accepted, despite some arguments. "Arguments are normal for siblings, my sweet girl," she whispered softly. "Neither of us is going to push you away or anything. I'm going to have a chat with Alex and we'll find a way to deal with it together, okay?"
You nodded at her and she pulled you up. Together you had a cozy day on the couch, where she looked after you and tried to calm you down.
A few hours later, the door opened and Alex hesitantly entered the apartment, her eyes downcast and her face marked with regret. She felt the weight of the silence filling the room and knew she had a lot of explaining to do to make things right with you.
Kara slowly got up from her spot next to you, while you were still clinging to her, and walked towards the redhead. "It's good that you're back," she said calmly, but with a stern tone. "We need to talk. Urgently."
Alex swallowed hard and nodded, her eyes meeting yours and she could see the pain in them. "I'm sorry, Kara. I'm so sorry for what I said. It was unfair and unforgivable to y/n." She spoke and the blonde took her in his arms, surprised by her openness.
"It's okay. We all make mistakes. But we need to talk about it so we can understand what happened." the person addressed hesitated for a moment before continuing. "I spoke to Lena and she told me something that finally made me understand. She's afraid that if we fight, our relationship will be ruined forever because her real parents fought all the time before they split up and put her in a children's home."
Kara sighed and nodded slowly. "Yes, y/n told me that too. It's hard for her to deal with these fears."
Alex looked at her sister seriously before biting her lip and briefly looking at you on the couch. You had now moved into a lying position, the blanket wrapped thickly around you. "We have to show her that she is wrong. That we love her and that we will always be there for her no matter what."
The blonde smiled softly and put her arm around the redhead's shoulder. "We will, Alex. We will show her that she will never be alone and that she always has a place in our family."
They walked over to you arm in arm and took you into their midst. They hugged you tightly, united in their determination to put the fight over money behind them. You all spent the next few hours talking it out, listening to each other, and reassuring each other that you would be there for each other no matter what happened.
And as night fell and you felt tired but relieved, you all knew that you had emerged from each crisis stronger, ready to walk together on a path full of love and forgiveness.

Twisted Desires - Kara Danvers x male reader
Tumblr media
[summary: kara is new to the city. her sister alex is there to show her around along with her best friend and collegue, the reader, who is a very charming person.... oh and did I mention a psychopath too?]
Masterlist
The city lights of National City painted a vivid tapestry against the night sky, a canvas of dreams and secrets. As the evening breeze swept through the bustling streets, Alex Danvers paced the sidewalk outside the airport terminal. She checked her watch impatiently, her dark hair dancing in the wind. Beside her, a tall, broad-shouldered man stood with a confident aura that seemed to draw the curious glances of passersby.
The man, (Y/n) (L/n), the head forensics coroner at the National City Police Department. Renowned for his brilliance and charisma, he wore an air of confidence that matched his reputation. He was Alex's best friend, and his smile hid a world of secrets.
Alex's attention snapped back to the terminal as the familiar figure of her sister emerged from the crowd.
Kara Danvers, with her warm smile and hopeful eyes, had arrived in the city to start her new job at CatCo Worldwide Media. Alex's lips curved into a grin as she waved at Kara, who returned the gesture with enthusiasm.
"Kara!" Alex called out, engulfing her sister in a tight hug.
"Alex! I've missed you so much," Kara exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine affection.
Introductions were made, and (Y/n) extended a hand to Kara. "I'm (Y/n), Alex's partner in crime and fellow crime-fighter. Welcome to National City."
Kara's cheeks flushed slightly as she shook his hand. "Nice to meet you, (Y/n). Thanks for picking me up."
"Anytime, Kara," (Y/n) replied, his smile holding a certain charm that made Kara's heart skip a beat. She quickly looked away, hoping her blush wasn't too obvious.
As the evening sun dipped below the horizon, the trio found themselves at a lively bar in the heart of the city. Laughter and music mingled in the air as they settled into a corner booth. The dim lighting cast intriguing shadows, a fitting backdrop for the enigmatic (Y/n).
"Kara, meet my partner in solving crimes and causing mayhem, (Y/n)," Alex said with a playful grin.
Kara smiled shyly at (Y/n). "Nice to meet you again."
(Y/n)'s eyes held a glint of intrigue as he observed Kara. His mind was a labyrinth of thoughts, each one meticulously analyzed. The subtle nuances of her smile, the way her eyes lit up when she spoke, all were stored in the vault of his mind.
She's new to the city, shy yet kind-hearted, (Y/n) mused internally. A perfect addition to my little narrative.
Alex ordered drinks for the trio, and as (Y/n) went to retrieve them from the bar, Alex leaned in closer to Kara. "So, what do you think of (Y/n)?"
Kara's cheeks tinged with pink as she tried to hide her embarrassment. "He's... charming."
Alex smirked. "Oh, I see the sparks flying already."
Kara looked down, her fingers playing with the rim of her glass. "It's just a first impression, Alex."
(Y/n) returned with the drinks, his gaze shifting between the two women. He had an uncanny ability to read people, to dissect their intentions and desires, and he knew he had made an impression on Kara.
As the night wore on, laughter and conversation flowed like the drinks at their table. Kara found herself drawn to (Y/n)'s wit and charm, while (Y/n) savored every stolen glance and subtle interaction. The city lights seemed to dance in his eyes, a reflection of the twisted narrative he was weaving.
In the midst of the revelry, (Y/n) excused himself to get more drinks. He stood at the bar, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the counter. His mind was currently a whirlwind of thoughts, analyzing Kara's every move, every expression.
Her curiosity is palpable, and her innocence is a canvas I can paint upon, (Y/n) thought, a smirk playing at his lips.
The night continued, fueled by laughter and camaraderie. Kara's heart raced as she found herself laughing at (Y/n)'s anecdotes, his presence magnetic and alluring. She tried to conceal her growing attraction, but her sister's teasing glances didn't go unnoticed.
As the night came to an end and the trio prepared to leave the bar, Kara's gaze met (Y/n)'s one last time. Kara's cheeks warmed and she quickly averted her eyes. Unbeknownst to her, (Y/N)'s mind was already concocting a narrative that would bind their fates in ways she could never have imagined.
{Part 2} out soon.

SUPERGIRLS
Super-Girl
Tumblr media
A superheroine wished into existence by Jimmy Olsen
2. Queen Lucy of Borgonia
Tumblr media
the queen of a fictional latin american country named Borgonia. She became queen because her parents died, and a Count named Norvello, kept her hidden from the public, in the hopes that she wouldn't steal the hearts of her citizens and allow him to quietly rule the country with an iron fist.
3. Linda Lee Danvers/Kara Zor-El (Earth-One)
Tumblr media
The original that sacrificed herself to save the multiverse/remaining people of the surviving universes. She was brought back in "Many Happy Returns" but then goes back to original Earth-One. I think she's now alive somewhere because of convergence??? She also showed up as Linda Danvers's guardian angel and visited Deadman on Christmas. She's met the original legion
4. Ellie Leeds
Tumblr media
She was the first to discover Supergirl's arrival, but was exposed to X-Kryptonite and fell into a coma. When she awoke years later - after a chance meeting with Supergirl - she started exhibiting Supergirl's powers, and also believed she was the Girl of Steel.
5. Louise-L
Tumblr media
the Supergirl of the 5020th Century; She traveled back in time, to prevent the goals of some villains named Toxus and Tal Belok

Linda Danvers's daughter who was saved from the pre-crisis multiverse, and now exists in the future. She has pre-crisis kryptonian level powers
9. Cir-El
Tumblr media
thought to be Superman's daughter from the future, but was actually a personality grafted onto a separate person made by a future version of Brainiac to ensure that version's existence
10. Linda Lang/Kara Zor-El
Tumblr media
The Post-Crisis version of Supergirl, I think much of the weirdness in her origin was because of Kryptonite poisoning? She's met threeboot legion
11. Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers
Tumblr media
The New 52 and onwards version of Kara Zor-El Supergirl, they showed much more of Argo's history in this version
12. Kara Zor-El/Karen Starr, First Supergirl, later Power Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The New 52 Earth 2 version of Karen Starr, she has a similar origin to post-crisis and new 52 Supergirl where Superman grew up before she arrived on Earth, but like Earth-Two, the Superman and Lois of her world basically adopted her. She became Power Girl due to getting stranded on Earth 0
Karas
See Linda Lee Danvers
Kara Zor-L/Karen Starr (Earth-Two)
Tumblr media
(*sigh* also known as Paige Stetler) from Earth-Two, second Kara introduced, for a time, she was Atlantean. She is the only survivor of Earth-Two, except something something convergence :
3. Kara from Superman/Aliens
Tumblr media
The third Kara introduced, she is from a space colony named Argo (not the Kryptonian City, but instead from a planet named Odiline) that got destroyed by Xenomorphs, She and Superman tried to save the last Argonians, but they failed
4. See Kara Zor-El/Linda Lang
5. Kara Zor-L/Karen Starr (Earth 2) (Post-Infinite Crisis)
Tumblr media
A Power Girl from Earth 2, which seems to be a universe much in-line with Earth-Two, although there are differences here and there
6. See Kara Zor-El/Kara Danvers
7. See Kara Zor-El/Karen Starr
Honorable Mention Kara (She hasn't interacted with main continuity): Kara In-Ze
Tumblr media
the DCAU version of Supergirl. She comes from Krypton's sister planet named "Argo," she was adopted by the Kents, but then decided to stay in the future in the legion
Laurel Kent, despite not being here for Supergirl or Kara reasons, she is here due to Supergirl and the legion
Tumblr media
She was initially introduced as Clark's descendant. For some reason, despite being in the future, Legion of Superheroes had tie-ins for event annuals. Superman editorial (presumably because of Byrne) wanted to get rid of all kryptonians, so guess what happens during Millenium:
Tumblr media
anyways. the reason she is on this post:
Andromedas
Laurel Gand/(was called Andromeda pre-5YL) (5 Years Later)
Tumblr media
Due to editorial mandates, Kara was erased from the legion's history. Laurel Gand, a distant relative of Lar Gand takes her place. She basically has the same history as Kara except Khunds keep on trying to kill Daxamites
1.5/2. Laurel Gand/Andromeda (SW6)
Tumblr media
A time paradox duplicate of Laurel Gand.
3. Laurel Gand (Earth-247)
Tumblr media
She's a literal xenophobe now. She gets better and becomes a nun to atone
Misc?
Sensor Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(so she doesn't actually count, but it was noticeable enough to mention)
Lesla-Lar
Tumblr media
Lesla-Lar was a kandorian scientist, who was an orphan that took the last name of her best friend Zora Vi-Lar. She was killed by phantom zone criminals she released, but then became a ghost where she still troubled Supergirl. Her initial plan was to replace Kara as Supergirl Also Lana Lang with a helmet
Tumblr media
The helmet supposedly gives superpowers to those who wield it - but it does not. Superboy tricks Lana into thinking it does due to Clark wearing the helmet while bullets bounced off of him

I got an idea for My Adventures with Superman Season 2!
Tumblr media
If somewhere down the line they want to introduce Kara Zor-el/Supergirl to the show, considering that Clark Kent in this universe’s timeline is first starting out as Superman then maybe Kara isn’t exactly Supergirl yet.
Maybe in like most interpretations of her story, Kara, Clark finds her in the space pod she was sent in but she still physically looks like a teenager due to the Kryptonite meteor that put her into hyper sleep.
Tumblr media
And then afterwards after finding out that they’re cousins, possibly for the remainder of the season, Kara could live with Clark and Jimmy in their apartment in Metropolis. Since Kara is teenager in this, she could have a little sister-big brother dynamic with Kara first starting off as “the playful little sister type” that tries to push Clark’s buttons (I was thinking one gag is Kara telling Clark that he can’t tell her what to do because she’s “older than him”), but they both end up becoming fond of each other and bond as a family (or what’s left of it). She could also have some fun moments with Lois Lane as well. Then the season could end with Kara getting taken in by the Danvers, and she has this big emotional goodbye with Clark.
Also if they’re looking for a voice actor for her, I thought maybe Amandla Stenberg could voice Kara.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also that way, Jack Quaid can get his redemption arc.
For those of you who don’t know or need a refresher, Amandla Stenberg and Jack Quaid (who voices Clark/Superman in the show) were both in the first Hunger Games movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amandla played Rue, the young female tribute from District 11 who became an ally for Katniss. While Jack played Marvel, the male tribute from District 1 who ended up murdering Rue.
So if she were to come in and voice Kara/Supergirl it would be hella ironic, but also kind of a full circle moment.

Wild
The morning sun shone brightly over National City with not a cloud in sight. Sunlight streamed plentifully through the floor-to-ceiling windows, brightly illuminating the entirety of Kara Danvers’ loft, prompting the sleeping hero to stir from her slumber.
Kara grimaced at the intense glare and closed her eyes as tight as she could. Her sour look was quickly replaced with an airy grin when she felt the body spooned against her back and the wisps of warm breath tickling the nape of her neck. The grin fully morphed into a smile when she noticed the arm loosely wrapped around her bare waist; a smile brighter than the sunlight invading her room.
Kara softly traced the pads of her fingers across the pale-skinned arm, causing its owner to stir. The Kryptonian delicately lifted the hand to her lips and began peppering it with light kisses, drawing out a soft moan from the woman lying next to her. Cleary taking the response as encouragement, Kara transitioned to sucking each finger individually; eliciting a sharp intake of breath from her bedmate followed by a slight canting of hips into Kara’s ass.
“Don’t start anything you can’t finish,” Lena said in a husky rasp.
Kara turned around to face her and playfully replied, “Oh, I have no intention of stopping,” and proceeded to press her naked body into the brunette.
Their lips slowly came together in a chaste kiss that quickly transitioned into an all-out assault of teeth and tongues. Hands quickly began to wander. Lena’s hands traced over Kara’s bare chest and descended across the hero’s well-defined abs before zeroing in on the sensitive junction between Kara’s thighs.
Kara gasped and continued to rub on Lena’s bare thigh and gradually moved up her body until reaching the hemline of the brunette’s tight-fitting, threadbare pajama top. Kara’s eyebrows damn-near popped out of her head when she pulled up the top to reveal that Lena was not wearing any underwear. Her face quickly shifted from shock to what could only be described as a look of insatiable hunger. She licked her lips Lena’s abundant arousal. The two locked eyes; a predatory look overtook Kara’s face. “I’m thinking breakfast in bed this morning.”
Lena moaned in agreement, her body shuddering ever so slightly in evident anticipation.
Kara was so preoccupied with her impending ‘breakfast’ that she failed to hear a key being inserted into her front door lock. She also missed the door unlocking and opening, and she sure-as-shit didn’t hear anyone enter the loft. What finally got her attention was the loud bang of the door as it slammed shut.
“Kara, are you up yet? I brought Noonan’s,” Alex called out.
Kara’s head popped up from between Lena’s legs with a wide-eyed look of terror on her face. “Oh shit,” she whispered.
Lena for her part simply rolled her eyes, clearly irritated by the unwelcome interruption.
“Relax,” Lena calmly whispered.
But how could Kara relax? Alex being in Kara’s loft created a slew of issues, chief among them her sister being completely in the dark about everything that had transpired between Kara and Lena the previous night.
Last night was jam-packed with life-changing events for the hero and the freshly reinstated LuthorCorp (soon to be L-Corp again) CEO. After enjoying a candlelit dinner that was entirely too intimate for two people that were just ‘best friends’, the two settled down to watch the latest episode of ‘Ahsoka’ (Kara would gladly suffer through Lena’s love of Star Wars because, well, it’s Lena). Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on who asked) the show was interrupted by a slew of unexpected occurrences.
In summary:
Kara and Lena kissed.
Kara and Lena confessed their feelings for each other.
Kara and Lena kissed again.
And again.
And again.
Kara and Lena tore each other’s clothes off and spent the remainder of the evening (and into the early morning hours) thoroughly burning off six years’ worth of built-up sexual tension. To say it was a good night would be an understatement.
So why was Alex’s presence in Kara’s loft problematic? Aside from the blonde and brunette being a mass of naked, tangled limbs in Kara’s bed?
They hadn’t had ‘The Talk’ yet.
Since everything that happened last night was pretty much a carnal blur after their first kiss, they didn’t really get a chance to establish exactly where their relationship stood and where it was going. Was this a one-time thing? Fuckbuddies? Girlfriends? Loading their shit into a U-Haul today? Trip to Vegas tonight? I mean sure, they said they love each other, but do they both feel the same way the morning after?
Alex most assuredly would interrogate them both on the spot if she knew the current scene taking place behind the curtain covering Kara’s bedroom. And that brought up another question: even if they could put a name to whatever it is they are doing, were Kara and Lena ready for Alex and every other member of their chosen family to be privy to it? What happens if it leaks out to the public that Supergirl is now in a romantic relationship with Lena? Would that put a bigger target on Lena’s back? Maybe they wanted to keep this new aspect of their relationship private from their friends, family, and the public.
Unfortunately, no answers could be had at this point because Kara and Lena hadn’t had a femtosecond to hash any of them out.
Hence Alex’s visit being infuriatingly problematic.
“C’mon Kara, I know you’re here! You can’t hide behind that curtain all day!” Alex bellowed.
Kara shot a panicked look at a completely nonplussed Lena. The blonde raised her hands in a silent plea for help. Lena shrugged and focused on Kara like she was trying to figure out what the problem was.
Goddamnit Kara! If you’re not out here in five seconds, I’m going to call Lena and tell her you fantasize about her when you masturbate!”
Kara’s eyes shot to her hairline and her face turned three shades of red. She locked eyes with Lena before quickly burying her face in her hands.
“One!”
Lena arched an eyebrow and bore a Chesire Cat-like grin. “Really?” she purred quietly.
“Two!”
Kara dropped her hands from her face and attempted to respond but quickly gave up and just nodded in defeat.
“Three!”
Lena pulled Kara into her arms and gently kissed the hero’s temple. “Go deal with your sister,” she whispered into her ear.
“Four!”
A small gust of wind later, Kara was standing next to her kitchen island; her abrupt arrival blowing a stack of napkins to the floor; Alex quickly bending over to grab them.
“Hiwhatareyoudoinghere?!?” Kara said in a high-pitched, borderline shrill voice.
“Kara, you know I can’t understand you when you talk at superspeed…” Alex said as she stood up with the napkins she had recovered from the floor in her hand. She placed them back on the counter and looked up at her sister. Her eyes widened into saucers and her mouth gaped in shock.
Her little sister stood before her naked as the day she was born and, aside from fidgeting with her fingers, made no effort to cover herself.
“Kara! What the hell!” Alex screamed and turned away from her sister faster than a speeding bullet.
The startled Kryptonian looked at the redhead with confusion. “What? What’s the matter?”
Alex loudly scoffed, “Oh for the love of…Kara…clothes Kara…you…you’re fucking naked!”
Upon looking down and confirming Alex’s observation, a now tomato-faced Kara yelped and quickly covered her chest with her right arm and her pelvic area with her left hand.
Alex turned to peek at her oblivious, idiot of a sister and was shocked to find her still standing near the kitchen island with a deer-in-the-headlights look splashed across her face.
The redhead’s stared in disbelief at the stock-still hero and yelled, “For fuck’s sake, Kara, go put some goddamn clothes on!”
Alex’s outburst seemed to motivate Kara into action and the blonde super-sped back into her room with enough force to blow the recently recovered stack of napkins (and a few other lightweight items situated around the loft) into a scattered mess on the floor; Alex making no effort to catch or clean them up this time.
Once back behind the curtain, Kara was greeted with the sight of Lena sitting on the end of the bed offering up a pair of underwear, baggy t-shirt, and pajama pants to the clearly humiliated hero. Lena was biting her bottom lip in a blatant attempt to stifle a look of amusement. Once Kara accepted the proffered clothes, Lena slapped her hand over her mouth to aid in her continuing battle to keep her composure. As Kara dressed at human speed, a few light snorts escaped Lena’s covered mouth. Kara flashed her an intense glare that the average onlooker might interpret as an oncoming barrage of heat vision.
Kara threw up her hands as if to say, ‘What the fuck?’ which prompted Lena to slap her other hand over her mouth. Seeing that she was getting nothing but grief from the CEO, Kara defiantly stuck her tongue out at her. Lena quickly turned and grabbed a pillow from the head of the bed, burying her face in it before dissolving into barely controlled giggles. Kara rolled her eyes at the brunette’s antics and walked at normal speed back into the kitchen area.
Kara emerged from her room and was immediately met with the sight of Alex standing in front of the kitchen island; her arms folded across her chest and a bewildered look on her face.
“What the hell was that about?”
Kara averted her eyes to the floor. “Um…I was…”
Alex held up her hand. “You know what? Never mind. I don’t want to know.” She briefly turned away from Kara before stopping herself and swinging back around to face her. “And just so we’re clear, we will never speak of this again.”
With a relieved sigh, Kara’s entire body seemed to deflate. She tensed up again when she noticed Alex hadn’t stopped looking at her. In fact, she seemed to be intensely studying her.
After a few more seconds of intense scrutiny, Alex appeared to have figured out whatever it was that she was looking for.
“You look shit, Kara. Did you not get any sleep last night?”
While Kara didn’t quite look like ‘shit’, the hero did look a little disheveled. She had a serious case of bedhead, puffy circles under her eyes, and seemed to be fidgeting more than usual.
Kara struggled a moment before replying, “Yeah, uh-huh.”
“No, seriously. You look like you’ve been tossing and turning all night.”
“Something like that,” she replied nervously; her eyes focusing everywhere besides her sister’s.
Alex looked at her with confusion etched across her face and shook her head. “Okay…?”
Kara appeared to be on the cusp of responding but she was saved by Alex turning her attention to the dining table and moving towards it. Kara walked around to the side of the table opposite Alex and took in the four paper bags, three large cardboard containers of food, and the drink holder with three large and one small disposable cup bearing the Noonan’s logo. Alex busied herself pulling bagels, donuts, and muffins from the bags and placing them on plates that she had apparently pulled from Kara’s cupboards before the Kryptonian’s impromptu display of exhibitionism.
Kara’s brow furrowed ever so slightly. “Alex?”
Alex absentmindedly hummed as she spooned scrambled eggs from one container onto a separate plate.
“Thank you for bringing me breakfast, but…that seems like a lot of food even for me. Are you not by yourself?”
“Sam and Ruby are outside parking the car. Should be up any minute,” Alex said as she continued to divvy up the food. She was so wrapped up in what she was doing that she missed the silently mouthed ‘fuck’ from her little sister.
“Oh, that’s cool,” Kara stammered. “Super cool,” she mumbled to herself.
Alex paid no attention to the blonde and continued, “Ruby’s taking her driving test again next week, we found a perfect spot for her to practice her parallel parking when we got here.”
“Isn’t this her fifth time taking the test?” Kara snorted.
Alex scoffed, “First of all, fuck you. Second, it’s only her fourth time. Third, you have no room to talk. It took you five tries to pass the test and you’re still a shit driver.”
Kara stuck her tongue out at her sister, which Alex ignored. Kara used her enhanced vision to look through her loft walls to see if she could find Sam and Ruby on the street. She quickly locked onto their minivan and watched as it clumsily faltered back and forth as Ruby tried to squeeze it in the parking spot bracketed by vehicles on both sides. Kara could see the space was barely big enough for the larger vehicle. She focused her vision further into the vehicle to get a look at its occupants. Ruby was the epitome of focus as she tried to slot the van into the spot; her tongue poking out the side of her mouth. Sam sat in the passenger’s seat with a composed look on her face as the van jerked back and forth. But when Kara focused her super-hearing, Sam’s accelerated heartbeat and erratic breathing told a different story.
Alex seemed to notice familiar gaze. “How bad is it?” she asked with a hint of exasperated concern in her voice.
“I think they’re going to be awhile,” Kara said with an apologetic look on her face.
Alex frowned but continued plating up their breakfast.
The redhead moved back into the kitchen and opened a cabinet. She stopped short and stood motionless.
After a minute of watching Alex stare at nothing, a confused Kara asked, “You ok over there?”
At Kara’s prompting, Alex moved to gaze at her sister. She studied her for a moment with an inquisitive look on her face, then calmly asked, “Why were you naked earlier?”
Kara immediately broke eye contact, instead opting to focus on her fidgeting hands. “I…I…was about to get in the shower when you got here. That’s why I couldn’t hear you…you know, ‘cause of the shower running. And then…I guess I rushed out so fast I forgot to put my pajamas back on.” Kara pinched her lips and nodded as if she had just convinced herself her story was plausible.
Alex tilted her head and frowned. “Bullshit. The shower wasn’t running when I got here.”
Kara gasped and nervously giggled. “I mean…I was just getting out of bed and was heading to the bathroom to take a shower.” Kara gave her sister a forced smile.
“But you never sleep naked.”
Kara waved dismissively at the elder Danvers. “Pfft, I sleep naked all the time.”
“No, you don’t.” Alex stood undeterred.
“Yes, I do.”
“No, you don’t.”
“How would you know that?”
“You never slept naked the entire time we lived together.”
Kara looked at Alex incredulously. “Of course, I didn’t, we were living together!” Kara flashed a judgmental look at her sister.
Alex rolled her eyes. “Don’t look at me like I’m some weirdo. Accidents happen when people live together. Especially living in this tiny-ass loft.” Alex waved her hand around the tiny space.
“Still doesn’t prove anything,” Kara haughtily responded with a defiant look for good measure.
Alex squinted her eyes ever so slightly and unleashed a sinister grin. “You never slept naked when you were fucking Mon-El.”
All the color drained from Kara’s face and her eyes slowly widened to the size of large dinner plates. “How the hell did you know that?!?”
“He complained about it to me once. Said you were the biggest prude he’d ever met, which isn’t saying much considering where he came from.”
“That…that…asshole!” Kara’s face had turned fire engine red.
“Agreed. That’s why I threatened to throw him into a vat of molten lead if he ever talked about anything like that again.” Alex briefly smiled at the memory before turning to focus on her sister again. “But that’s irrelevant right now. What’s up with you?”
Kara managed to calm herself. She squared up towards Alex in a futile attempt to appear confident. “Nothing’s up. Everything’s fine,” Kara said with just a little too much squeak in her voice at the end.
“You’re lying.”
Kara laughed nervously. “Why do you think I’m…”.
Alex cut her off, pointing directly at the Kryptonian’s furrowed brow. “Crinkle.”
Kara sighed loudly and instinctively tried to rub away her long-standing tell. She gave Alex an aggravated look and took a deep breath. “Look, there’s nothing going on. You’ve spent way too much time at the D.E.O., and it’s made you completely paranoid!” Kara waved her hands erratically as she continued rambling. “And I don’t appreciate you trying to use your…your secret-agenty interrogation moves on me. ‘Cause let me tell you something missy…you…you have no idea what you’re talking about. I am a strong…uh…empowered woman…who…who is perfectly comfortable with her…uh…nakedness.” Kara pointed at Alex. “Yeah, I think your just jealous because I’m so comfortable with my body that you…uh…you just get crazy ideas in that head of yours and frankly I think it’s unbecoming of someone who has a teenage daughter to set such a terrible example with all the…jealousy…and…and…”.
The sound of the toilet in Kara’s bathroom flushing echoed through the apartment with the subtlety of a shotgun blast. Both sisters turned to looked in the direction of the bathroom. Both turned back towards each other with vastly different looks painted across their faces; Alex a knowing/shit-eating grin and Kara grimacing like she’d just been punched in the gut by a Czarnian.
“Paranoid, huh?” Alex said with an exaggerated tilt of her head. “So, who is he?”
Kara smiled sheepishly and decided that studying the floor was preferable to making eye contact with her sister.
Alex picked up one of the large coffees from the drink tray and took a sip. She let out a contented sigh and calmly asked, “Is it that cute friend of Nia’s that I saw you talking to at the wedding?”
Kara, who had clearly decided her best course of action was to shove a donut in her mouth, looked at Alex like her sister had sprouted a second head. “Fho?” Kara asked around a mouthful of donut.
Alex mocked, “I shouldn’t be surprised you don’t remember him; he was seriously hitting on you.” Alex shook her head. “Fucking Captain Oblivious over here,” she mumbled to herself.
Kara swallowed her donut and was cut off by the redhead before she could retort. “Is it that Korugarian you met at Al’s the other night?”
A stream of water flowing out of the bathroom sink could now be heard through the kitchen wall; a few intermittent splashes signaling breaking through the steady stream.
Kara looked towards the bathroom nervously. She then turned her attention to the drink carrier and removed the large cup marked “KARA” on the side before meeting Alex’s unyielding stare.
“No, he was asking me if Brainy was single,” Kara said impatiently.
Alex nodded, a look of intense consideration washing over her face before an almost comical look of terror replaced it. “Kara, please tell me Mon-El didn’t come back from the future again.” She grabbed Kara by the shoulders. “Look, I know you still love him, but honey, he’s married, and being a homewrecker is not a good look for you, and remember the whole ‘prude’ comment, and…”.
Kara looked at the eldest Danvers in complete contempt and promptly cut her off, “Oh, fuck no! Even if he showed up right now and told me he divorced Imra and said he wanted to get back together, I would tell him to go to hell.”
Alex released Kara and took a step back, clearly shocked by her sister’s vulgar outburst. “Okay, so definitely not Mon-El,” the redhead cautiously mumbled.
A drawer shutting in Kara’s room broke Alex’s questioning. The redhead looked towards the curtain briefly and back at the Kryptonian who was now taking a long swig of her coffee. “C’mon Kara, who’s back there?” Alex gently implored.
Kara chewed her bottom lip nervously before huffing out a sigh of defeat. But before she could respond, she heard the curtain slide open and shut behind her and watched as Alex in quick succession stop breathing and her face contort into a look of shock.
Kara turned to see Lena standing by the open curtain still dressed in her form-hugging pajama top but had added a pair of sleep shorts for the sake of propriety.  Her makeup-less face was adorned with thick framed black glasses. Her hair hung loosely; not quite the disheveled mess Kara was sporting earlier but certainly a downgrade from the CEO’s usual opulent perfection. Yet she stood tall and practically oozed that one-of-a-kind Luthor confidence that had brought lesser men to their knees.
Kara shot a warm smile at the green-eyed beauty standing before her and mouthed a silent ‘I’m sorry’. Lena smirked and subtly winked at the Kryptonian. She padded toward the sisters with a hint of swagger in her step; stopping next to Kara and leaning down to plant a chaste kiss to the corner of the seated Kryptonian’s mouth.
“Good morning, darling,” the brunette practically purred.
A punch-drunk look overtook Kara’s features as she smiled lovingly in return. “G’morning, zhaote.” The hero grabbed the CEO’s wrist and pulled her in for another kiss, this time directly on the lips.
The two were broken out of their PDA session by a muffled squeak originating from Alex. They exchanged brief smiles before turning to face the frozen in place redhead. Lena righted her posture and walked over to the kitchen cabinet; bidding Alex ‘good morning’ as she passed her. Alex, clearly having gone non-verbal, could only respond with a nod. Her gaze turning as she continued to watch the brunette walk over to the cabinet, the redhead slowly drifted toward the kitchen until she softly bumped into one of the barstools surrounding the kitchen island. Lena retrieved a porcelain coffee mug and moved to stand opposite Alex. Lena studied her for a moment before motioning towards the redhead’s coffee cup. “You still take yours black, right?”
The question seemed to bring Alex back to reality. She blinked her eyes rapidly and shook her head as if she was trying to reset her brain. “Uh, yeah.”
“May I?” Lena held out her hand for Alex’s drink. She nodded and handed the cup to the CEO who then held both the empty mug and the disposable cup side-by-side at chest level and whispered, “Effingo.” The mug slowly filled with steaming coffee, stopping half an inch under the brim. Alex watched the spell unfold with an impressed look on her face, closely mirrored by Kara’s effervescent look of complete pride upon seeing the brunette’s casual use of her powers.
Lena handed Alex’s cup back to her with a gracious nod and took the seat next to Kara at the dinner table. Lena scooted her chair closer to Kara to the point that their shoulders and thighs were rubbing together. Lena intermittently sipped from her coffee mug (a contented hum escaping her lips during the first few sips) and wrapped her arm around the hero, lazily carding her fingers through golden tresses. The two exchanged happy glances, neither able to hide their giddy mood.
For her part, Alex remained leaned up against the kitchen island practically staring at the Kryptonian and the CEO; her face running through what appeared to be a gamut of emotions. The redhead slowly sipped her coffee as she studied the couple; her pinched lips slowly morphed into a warm grin after each sip. Lena spared a glance in Alex’s direction and gave her a questioning look (signature eyebrow raise included) and titled her head in challenge. Alex’s grin shifted into a full-fledged smile in response to the brunette’s silent prompting. The staring contest dragged on for another minute or two. Alex looked as if she was on the verge of saying something, but Lena’s patience wore out and the redhead was cut off before she had a chance.
“So, Alex, as much as I dislike eavesdropping on other peoples’ conversations,” Lena paused for a moment as a thought seemed to strike her, “Actually, now that I think about it, I rather enjoy eavesdropping.” Lena nodded, clearly agreeing with herself. “But I digress. If neither of you mind, I’d like to add my two cents about a topic you were discussing earlier.”
She received nods from both noticeably intrigued sisters. Lena fixed her gaze back towards Alex before saying, “Regarding Mon-El’s comments about Kara’s prudish nature, as I scientist, I feel I must refute his findings. If last night was any indication, your sister is incredibly outgoing, dare I say enthusiastic when it comes to activities of an intimate nature.” Lena paused long enough to get a look at the Danvers girls. Kara was covered in a full-on blush and a nervous smile adorned her face while Alex had turned pale-white and, for reasons unknown to all gathered, began gulping down her coffee as if it was her favorite brand of scotch. “Honestly, I posit that the crown-douche of Daxam was either too inexperienced or inept achieve his desired result.” Lena scrunched her nose. “My money’s on the latter.” Lena let that set in for a moment; an insatiable grin flitted across her lips. “No, I think poor Mon-El couldn’t provide Kara with the proper…stimulation.”
Alex erupted into a full coughing fit. Her hands quickly went to her face in a futile attempt to staunch the coffee erupting from her mouth and nose; the remains of her cup becoming collateral damage as it fell to the floor. The redhead quickly turned and lunged for the kitchen sink, spitting out the meager amount of dark liquid that had miraculously remained contained by her mouth. The last vestiges of coffee expelled from her lungs; Alex began a retching/dry-heaving duet that had her body halfway into the sink.
Kara, her sister’s hacking seeming to have no effect on her, focused her red face towards Lena and leveled her with a sense of shock and awe painting her features. Lena, calm, collected, Lena, met the hero’s eyes head on. Her face was encompassed in a look of devilish delight. Kara wrapped her arm around the brunette and pulled her close enough to whisper in her ear. “You’re terrible.”
Lena pulled back, a look of mock shame on her face which quickly melted into a devious smirk when she saw the Kryptonian wearing a similar grin. Lena pulled Kara closer and whispered in her ear, “She had it coming. No one grills my girl like that.”
Kara thickly swallowed before playfully responding with barely contained enthusiasm, “My girl?”
Lena cupped Kara’s cheek before moving a few errant hairs from her face behind her ear; her smile radiated with tenderness. “You’re damn right.” The CEO slowly leaned in and pressed a kiss to the smiling Kryptonian’s lips.
With the three women occupied, no one noticed Sam and Ruby enter the loft.
“Sorry we took so long. Who’s dying in here? I could hear all the coughing from the lob…”
Sam stopped short as she took in the scene currently unfolding in the loft. Her wife was halfway in the kitchen sink, by all appearances throwing up, and her oldest friend and her sister-in-law were kissing in a very non-platonic way. Sufficed to say, she was stunned into silence.
Kara and Lena broke their kiss after registering Sam and Ruby’s presence. (impressively, they only made out for an additional 90 seconds after hearing Sam’s voice).
Alex managed to remove herself from the sink. She turned on the faucet, splashed some water on her face, shakily fumbled for the roll of paper towels sitting on the counter, and once she was able to get a couple sheets detached from the roll, began to pat her face dry. After drying her face, she looked up and through tear-stained eyes saw her wife doing her best imitation of a goldfish and her adopted daughter studying her aunts intently.
The room remained eerily quiet save for the occasional smattering of sniffles and light coughs from Alex as she tried to get her breathing back to normal. Kara and Lena sat impassively at the kitchen table splitting their focus evenly amongst the three women. Lena rubbed slow circles on Kara’s back while the blonde lightly stroked the CEO’s thigh.  Sam and Ruby continued to focus all their attention on the couple while Alex was focused on patting dry her shirt with a handful of paper towels.
Ruby broke the silence.
“About fucking time.” The comment directed at her aunts was paired nicely with an eyeroll.
“Ruby Julietta Danvers!” Alex sternly pointed at the teen. “NOT, okay.”
Ruby shot each of her mothers a look of disbelief and scoffed, “Oh c’mon! You’re both thinking it!”
Sam turned to face her daughter. “Hey, Mama’s right. No F-bombs, please.” Ruby started to protest but Sam raised a hand to cut her off. “Don’t even start. I know, you’re seventeen and everyone at school says that and worse. Just, please, let me and Mama live in our fantasy that you’re still a little girl just a bit longer.”
Ruby stood down with a huff. Sam focused her attention on Kara and Lena, a hint of a grin on her face. “But she is right, it’s about fucking time.”
Ruby grumbled at her mother’s apparent double-standard while the couple responded to it with beaming smiles.
“So, are you two like…girlfriends now?” Ruby asked, trying to sound indifferent.
Kara opened her mouth but quickly shut it, instead turning towards Lena with a questioning look on her face. “Are we?”
Lena seemed to consider the blonde’s question for a moment, going so far as to sardonically tap her finger against her lips. A tender grin slowly spread across her lips. “I certainly hope so.”
Kara turned her attention back to Ruby with an exaggerated flourish and, with a smile brighter than the sun replied, “Yes, yes we are.”
“Cool.” Ruby shrugged and took a seat at the dining table opposite her aunts. Her mothers exchanged excited smiles before taking up two open chairs on the other end of the table. Plates, food, and drinks were efficiently passed around the table and the quintet dug in. They spent the meal discussing Ruby’s upcoming driver’s test. Ruby telling everyone that she had the test “On lock”, but a quick look at the expressions on Sam’s and Alex’s faces told a different story. Sensing her mothers’ doubt, Ruby defiantly pointed out that the only reason she didn’t pass the previous tests was because she was forced to drive the Danvers’ minivan. Alex countered that it was the only vehicle they had outside of the redhead’s motorcycle, and she wasn’t allowed to use it per the DMV’s rules as it was (Truth be told, even if it was allowed for the test AND hell had frozen over, there was no way she would let the teen anywhere near her custom bike).
The food was quickly demolished by three Kryptonian appetites (and the two humans to a much lesser extent). Everyone was finishing up their last bites when the adults noticed a sour look on Ruby’s face. The teen was not-so-subtly sniffing the air and scrunching her nose. It was very clear that Ruby had caught a whiff of something that did not agree with her.
“Whatcha picking up there, Rubes? Does Kara have another rotting pizza under here bed?” Alex taunted her sister.
“That happened one time!” Kara looked at Lena pleadingly. “I’d only been on Earth a month. How was I supposed to know human food was so perishable?”
Everyone at the table quietly chuckled. Everyone but Ruby, who now looked like she was going to be sick. “It’s not food,” she said matter-of-factly.
“Well, what is it?” Alex asked with a concerned tone.
Ruby locked eyes with Sam and gave her a sideways look. “Seriously mom, you can’t smell that?”
Sam lifted her nose into the air and inhaled. Instantly, a look of complete panic overcame her. She fired a warning glare at her daughter. “Rubes, don’t…”
“Oh, for god’s sake! It reeks like sex in here!” Ruby blurted out.
Reactions to Ruby’s outburst varied.
Kara buried her tomato-red face in her hands.
Alex had a look of complete horror on her face and went non-verbal for the second time that morning.
Sam squeezed her eyes shut and pinched the bridge of her nose.
Lena’s face turned as red as her girlfriend’s, albeit from laughing hysterically.
Ruby seemed completely oblivious to the reactions around the table and instead pressed her mother further, “How can you not smell that? I mean, I understand that Aunt Kara is completely nose-blind at this point, but mom…we both…you know…super-smell and all that.”
“Yes, honey, I can aware it, but I am tactful enough to not bring it up.” Sam said through clenched teeth as she started rubbing her temples and taking calming breaths.
As Lena’s laughter began to die down, Alex suddenly regained the ability to speak. “Wait, how the hell do you know what sex smells like?” The redhead glared at her teen daughter with outright terror.
Ruby stood and faced her mothers, leveling them with a look that clearly conveyed how much she was questioning their combined intelligence. “Duh, my room is right down the hall from you two. You think I haven’t gotten gassed out every time you two get it on?”
“But how would you know that’s from us having sex? We always turn on the sound dampeners.” Alex genuinely looked perplexed.
Ruby’s mouth gapped open; a look of disbelief stamped on her face. “Yeah, keyword ‘ALWAYS’! That’s the ONLY time you turn them on!”
Sam locked eyes with her wife. A look of realization slowly etched its way across their features. Lena descended into hysterical laughter again as she watched the mothers put the pieces together. Kara emerged from her cocoon of shame with a taunting smile on her face; barley able to contain her own laughter.
Alex abruptly clapped her hands together. “Okay! Time to go! Thanks for the food and the psychological trauma. I’m sure my therapist will be sending you a fruit basket as a thank you.”
“Why are you thanking them? We brought the food,” Ruby queried.
“Not important,” Alex said as she rose from her chair. “Let’s just get this mess cleaned up and we can…”
A blur of motion swept through the dining area and kitchen. Within seconds, the table was cleared, the dishes, mugs, and utensils washed and dried, and all the disposable items thrown in the trash.
“…go,” Alex said as a wisp of her windswept red hair settled on her face. She ran her hand through her hair to clear her face.
Kara, clearly the one responsible for the quick clean up, smiled expectantly at her sister. “Done!” Kara made the intentions clear when she began to usher the Danvers trio towards the door. While Ruby had already made her way to the door, Alex and Sam were forced to quickly grab their keys and purses.
Alex popped her head over Kara’s shoulder in a clumsy attempt to address Lena. “Luthor, you’ve got a shovel talk in your near future.”
The brunette curtly nodded. “Duly noted.”
“And you,” Alex said while pointing at her sister. “Sisters’ Night. Next week. I want the whole story.” The blonde raised a questioning eyebrow. “Okay, maybe just the PG-13 version,” the redhead amended.
Kara smiled warmly and pulled her sister into a tight hug. Once the sisters broke off their embrace, Kara turned to Sam. “You gonna give me a shovel talk too?”
“Oh, that won’t be necessary. If you screw her over, I’ll be the last person you need to worry about,” Sam said as she nodded towards Lena.
Kara turned to face Lena; the brunette leveled a faux-evil smile at the blonde punctuated by a wag of her eyebrows. Kara turned back to Sam. “No doubt,” she chuckled out.
Goodbyes circulated amongst the group as the Danvers clan exited the loft. Kara went to close the door but was abruptly stopped by Alex poking her head back inside. “Hey, next time, maybe give me a heads up that you’re…otherwise engaged before I come over?”
“Maybe try knocking?” Kara replied without hesitating.
“Or a fucking phone call,” Lena coolly followed-up.
“Byyyeee,” Kara said as she gently pushed Alex’s head back through the door opening. The hero quickly shut and locked it once her sister was clear.
Kara turned and sagged against the door, releasing a deep sigh as she squeezed her eyes shut and massaged her temples. The ruffling sound of her “bedroom” curtain being drawn open grabbed her attention and she opened her eyes slowly, the sight of Lena standing next to the foot of her bed earned a scandalous grin from the blonde.
Lena responded with a playful grin in kind. “Well, that was certainly…”
“Wild?” Kara finished.
“I was going to say farcical, but wild works too.” Lena’s lips drift into a tight grin with her girlfriend sporting a similar look. Both share pained looks as they try to keep a tsunami from bursting from their mouths, faces turning red from the effort. It’s a losing battle. Laughter erupts from both women. The surreal absurdity of the last hour quickly bled away as the two laughed so hard they almost fell over. As the minutes pass, their raucous cackling changes to giggles which soon morph into whimpers as they both try to regain their breath. The couple slowly righted themselves and wiped the tears from their eyes.
“I don’t know about you, darling, but I’m famished,” Lena said with a glimmer in her eyes.
Kara looked at her confused. “But we just had breakfast?”
“Well, my girlfriend said she wanted breakfast in bed earlier,” Lena shrugged innocently. “And just thinking about it made me hungry too.” The CEO wet her lips; her fingers dancing playfully with the hem of her pajama top.
An involuntary shudder ran through Kara’s body. “Wouldn’t want to disappoint your girlfriend now, would we?” As if she was sizing her up for a meal, Kara’s eyes swept from Lena’s lips down to her long, pale legs.
“Shall we, Miss Zor-El?”
Kara streaked to Lena and had the brunette hoisted over her shoulder in less than a heartbeat. The brunette let out an excited yelp as the two tumbled gracelessly into bed.

Something Wicked This Way Comes, Chapter 9
Tumblr media
Storybrooke. Mayor’s Office. (After hearing the story surrounding Alex’s arrival and her connection to Kara, Regina and Emma look to each other as they consider the implications. Having been raised watching her father negotiate treaties, Lena folds her arms and sits on the edge of her desk quietly, knowing whoever speaks first generally comes out on the losing end of the exchange.) Emma & Kara: “So what happens now?” (Emma and Kara, who are both sitting on the couch, turn to each other in amusement while Alex smiles. All eyes turn to Regina, who is standing by the fireplace.) Regina: “Clearly the question we need to ask ourselves is; should we be worried about you, Ms. Danvers?” Alex: (Looks to Kara, then steps forward:) “Absolutely not. I came here to be with Kara. I had no plans beyond finding her.” Regina: “As touching as that may be, (Turns to Kara:) I was speaking to you, Ms. Danvers.” Kara: “Me?” Emma: “Regina, what-” Regina: “Think about it. The town line is protected by the combined magic that you and I share, Emma. Up until now our magic was thought to be the strongest in all the known world. Admittedly, Supergirl has been known to perform some impressive feats of strength and possess great magical ability, (Looks to Kara again:) but if you are able to override even our magic then-” Kara: (Cutting in:) “No, wait. Hold on a second. (Stands:) There must be a simple explanation for why I was able to pull Alex across the town line. (Looks desperately to Lena:) I mean, doesn’t all magic fade over time?” Lena: (Hesitates:) “Yes, that can sometimes happen.” Emma: (Also stands:) “Now listen, I may not be the world’s greatest expert on magic, but even I know magical enchantments don’t just wear off after a couple of years. If they did then the Dark Curse would’ve resolved itself long before I even came to Storybrooke.” Kara: “But there’s a distinct difference between curses and protection spells.” Regina: “Oh really? Why don’t you enlighten us on your knowledge of such things?” Kara: (Lowers her head, straightening her glasses:) “All I meant was that while a curse can last until it is broken, other magical spells can lose their potency.” Lena: “When was the last time either of you tested the protection spell yourselves?” (Regina and Emma turn to each other.) Emma: “It could’ve been after the trouble we had with Morpheus?” Regina: (Nods:) “Maybe.” Alex: “Morpheus? As in the God of dreams?” Emma: “Yeah.” Lena: “And when was that?” Regina: “Before Maria was born.” Kara: “So it is possible that the strength of the protection spell may have faded since then?” (Unable to either confirm or deny this, Regina turns her attention to Alex.) Regina: “Has your sister given you the tour of our town, Ms Danvers?” Alex: (Surprised:) “Uh… no. I’ve kinda been laying low since I got here. Kara stressed how important it was for me to seek your approval before taking in the sights.” Regina: “I see. Well at least we won’t have to worry about the town gossips causing a panic. Perhaps you would like to start by seeing where your sister works? Emma and I need to have a word in private with the mayor.” Alex: “So that means I can stay?” Emma: “As long as you promise to stick within Storybrooke’s limits. At least until we’ve had time to check out your story.” Alex: “Thank you.” Kara: “Come on, Alex. I’ll show you the Sheriff’s station first.” (Keeping her eye on both of them, Regina watches Kara escort Alex from the mayor’s office.)

Dreykov’s Daughter
(Part one)
Kara Danvers/Zor El x Red room reader
My first post guys :DD Lemme know if you want me to continue or any requests. I’ve never posted anything I’ve written before so I hope you guys enjoy :) I might post some of a book I’m writing as well
“Kara Zor-El.”
Your father spoke. “A client of ours wants her dead. I’m putting you on the job.” You nodded, you were the best widow of your generation and you knew it. Your father knew it. “She’s a kryptonian, an alien from another planet. Our weapons won’t hurt her, so you’re getting new ones.” He slid two daggers and a loaded gun across the desk you were both seated at.
“Is that all?” You asked curiously. “Do you need more?” Dreykov’s tone was condescending and there was nothing you hated more than disappointing him. When you disappointed him you were punished. Harshly. You quickly grabbed the weapons and shoved them in your belt. “No sir. Where will I be stationed?” You asked, wanting to get him out of this mood. “National City, Los Angeles.”
“I know you won’t disappoint me.”
— — — — — — — — — — — —
Kara was smiling as she returned to the DEO having just busted a renowned jewel thief when she ran into her sister. “Alex! Did you hear about that jewel thief I busted?”
“Yeah, great job Kar.” Alex was hovering over a few papers on the desk. Kara walked over.
“What’s that?” She hummed curiously. “Some sort of organization, not a lot of information.” It must have really been a tough case because Alex was doing that thing she always does when she’s stressed.
“Want me to try to check it out?” The blonde offered, “I have some free time.” Alex signed. “I would if there was anything to check out, but we don’t have one possible location! It’s like this place doesn’t even exist!” The kryptonians sister pinched her nose. “Well what’s it called? Maybe Lena knows something.”
“The red room.”
— — — — — — — — — — — —
You had spent weeks training the guard schedule of the DEO so you knew at exactly 4:02 am you would have a three minute window to get inside the heavily guarded building and into a vent to hide until further notice, which is exactly what you did. Currently you were hiding in said vent above a somewhat spacious quiet room that the alien used to communicate with a hologram of her mother, at least as far as you were aware. You blew a strand of h/c hair out of your face. It had been a few hours and you were starting to get clammy. You were used to having to wait during missions, but that doesn’t mean you liked it. You wished Kara would just come in already, you wished you could just get this mission over with so you could go home. Home? The red room wasn’t home, not really. It was all you knew. The only thing you knew, and you wouldn’t let the man who saved you down. Not now, not ever.
After what felt like hours, the blonde kryptonian entered the room, seemingly outraged at something if her storming around was any sign. Your hands curled around the handle of the knife you were provided, posing it in a way that would make it easy to plunge into her pretty little chest. Despite your elation, your face showed not a hint of emotion, just as you were trained to. You noticed Kara begin to yell at the hologram. How pitiful, you thought, to be so controlled by your own emotions. You silently opened the vent and dropped onto her shoulders, covering her mouth.
“Mmh!” She yelled against your hand and grappled to grab your legs. In response, you press the slightly green glowing dagger against her neck.
“Stay quiet, princess.”
You pushed the blade further into her neck, threatening to draw blood. She lifts her hands in surrender and you hesitantly uncover her mouth.
“Who are you?”
She says quietly and as calmly as she can. Climbing off of her shoulders and standing behind her, you answer.
“The last thing you’ll see.”
Suddenly, the blondes sister burst through the door.
“Kara it’s not-“
She stopped at the scene in front of her. You silently thanked yourself for making a mask. You cut Kara just above her collarbone before bolting through the door. Behind you you could hear Alex run to her sister. It wouldn’t be long before the whole DEO was on your ass, and that wouldn’t be good. Your father always said ‘failure is forgivable, to be captured is not.’ You ran straight into the chest of Hank Hanshaw who grabbed your arms and wrenched them behind your back, kicking you onto your stomach. You bite your lip to hold back a scream. No. You cannot fail. You can not fail. He won’t forgive you, your father won’t forgive you. You don’t dare show your fear. That’s rule number one of the red room. Alex quickly appeared and pressed a gun to your head, you heard the safety click off.
“What the fuck did you do to my sister?” She growled. She roughly grabbed your face and held it up so you would meet her eyes. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” You wheezed in response. She kicked your face. Feeling the blood enter your mouth, you spit it on her collar. That was the last thing you remembered before you were knocked out.

A Chance for Christmas AU
Kara is a family blogger. The world believes her to be married with one daughter. What the world doesn't know is that her husband is actually her friend James, and her daughter Esme is actually her niece.
Kara lives in her sister's house, making the kitchen and family room her domain to film. But for all the public knows, it's Kara's house and Kara's family.
Alex loves her sister to the point of letting Esme participate, initially because Esme also loves it. But eventually it becomes less about spending time with Esme and more about the views and likes.
Just before Christmas, Kara finds out that one of the top brands in the world (Luthor Industries) is interested in sponsoring her. Turns out, Lena Luthor is a fan of Kara's blog, and has convinced her brother (her boss), that Kara would be the perfect fit.
Lex is doubtful, and so sets a seemingly impossible challenge-- he will give Kara Danvers control of the company's social media feeds on Christmas Eve. If Kara gets 2 million views, he'll give her the sponsorship. If she doesn't, well... Lena will take the fall.
Things in Kara's life are starting to unravel under the pressure of trying to get the sponsorship deal with the Luthor brand. Her family is losing patience, fully disenchanted with the vlog thing. So by the time Lena shows up to monitor the live takeover of the Luthor social media feeds, Kara is at her wit's end.
She mistakes Lena for the assistant producer she hired for the day (who never actually shows up) and pulls her inside and starts barking orders. Thus Lena is treated to a first hand look at the chaos that is behind the scenes of Kara's perfect-family schtick. When she learns the truth of Kara and James' relationship, and the fact Esme isn't even Kara's daughter, Lena nearly panics.
But in the end, she rolls with it. After all, if this test of Kara's (to get 2 million views on Christmas Eve) doesn't succeed, Lena will lose all credibility with her family, and THAT Lena will not allow.
They work together to put together a... mediocre product. They only get halfway to their viewer goal, and when their rental Santa (actually the real santa), Kara wishes aloud that she wishes to do the whole day over again. Which of course Santa makes happen.
What follows is christmas groundhog day, giving Lena and Kara (the only two who remember that Christmas Eve has already happened) the opportunity to do the day over and over again until they get it right. But no matter what they do, they always seem to fall short of the 2mil views.
Some days are better than others, some are straight disasters, but little by little, each day gets them closer to their goal, and closer to each other. They're both charming after all, and beautiful. How could they ignore the chemistry between them?
Lena also bonds with Esme. While coloring one day between shoots, Lena asks Esme if she even likes filming. Esme responds that at first she did, because it was an excuse to spend time with her favorite aunt, but now it feels like it wouldn't really matter if Esme were even in the clip at all. They don't ever really do anything together. Kara does it all herself, and brings Esme in just to get a couple takes in.
Lena also learns that James has/had a thing for Kara, but that Kara never felt the same way. He'd thought that pretending to be married on camera would bring them closer, but in the end it only pushed them farther apart, to the point that he's not even sure they're friends anymore.
Finally, FINALLY, Kara and Lena put together the perfect day. Professional decorators make the house perfect, everyone puts on their best performances, and the livestream officially hits more than 2 million views.
But the success comes at a cost. Having excluded the rest of her friends and family, they all leave the house bitterly. Even Alex, whose house Kara lives and films in, takes her family to in-law's house to spend the night.
"When we come back," Alex hisses on her way out the door, "I want you gone."
Heartbroken, Kara finally realizes what her fervor for success has cost her. Her family, the people she cherishes most in the world-- she lost sight of them. And now, having met their goal, Kara knows the day won't reset. This is the reality she will have to face tomorrow.
Or is it.
When she wakes the next morning, it's Christmas Eve again. But this time, she refuses to film she spends the day with Alex, Kelly, Esme and James. Though there's no filming, Lena comes over anyway to join them. Upon seeing this new (true) Kara, Lena surreptitiously begins to film from her phone as the family plays board games, bakes cookies, and just acts like a normal messy family.
But when Lena reveals that the feed got them the 2mil views again, Kara explodes. She feels exploited, betrayed, and doesn't listen when Lena tries to explain that the world deserves to see Kara as she truly is-- a kind soul who loves her family. She throws Lena out, and stews until Alex comes in to chat.
"It's been a long time since we've spent time like this together," Alex says quietly. "Recently, it's felt like the vlog was all you cared about-- and what really hurt the most was that it was fake. But what Lena streamed today... that was real."
Thus, now armed with her sister's blessing, Kara starts a new livestream. She bares all her secrets, tells her truth. She also vows to return to what her channel was always meant to be about.
"I stumbled into family blogging by accident, and when I did I tried to give you what you seemed to want. But the truth is, all I wanted to do was share my love of baking, cooking, and making things for my family. To share the joy of showing love. And that's what I'll be doing from now on. Just... me."
She also asks that Lena-- if she's watching-- please know that she's truly, deeply sorry.
"Please," Kara pleads to the camera. "Don't go."
She's tried calling Lena, of course, but Lena's turned her phone to do not disturb. The only call allowed to come through is her brother's, who reaches out to congratulate her.
"And don't worry," he says, "we'll be able to work with the brand change."
"What?"
"You mean you haven't seen Kara's latest video? You should. Trust me. You can thank me later."
So Lena does, and then immediately drops everything to rush back to the Danvers' home. Kara rushes out at the sound of Lena honking the horn as she pulls into the driveway, and there in her slippers she rushes into Lena's arms and plants a fervent kiss on her lips.
"I'm sorry--" Lena murmurs, eye closed as their foreheads touch.
"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have bitten your head off, I know you were just trying to help--"
"I love you."
Kara looks up with a tearful smile, her eyes sparkling with christmas lights.
"I love you too."

Quarantined.
Supergirl, Kara Danvers x Reader!, Alex Danvers
Word count: 3665.
“Oh, hey Kar.” You look up from your book when you hear a whoosh of air and your hair flies in front of your face. You’re way past being scared by her showing up like this, given the fact she does it all the time.
“Babe, you need to close everything.” Kara says, making you roll your eyes at her. She just got inside your apartment through the window and now is telling you to lock up.
You finally put your book down, watching her cape flying behind her while she goes around closing the other windows. She doesn’t care if you live on the third floor and leaving the windows open doesn’t really cause you any distress.
“Don’t worry, babe, you’re the only person who usually breaks and enters.” You quip, deciding to keep the mood light with a joke.
She looks at you, brows furrowed, clearly unamused by your joke. “Don’t be funny.” Kara says, coming closer. “There’s a weird virus going around National City. We’re not sure what it is, so I came to check upon you. Please, don’t leave your apartment today.”
“What? What virus? How do you know about it?” You sit up straight, ditching your book to the side. Your face matches the worry in her voice, instantly.
“Some complaints have been going around. People are throwing up, noses are bleeding, and in some extreme cases we saw people fainting on the street.” You open your mouth to yell ‘oh my God’, but Kara comes closer, face easing up when she sees how scared you are. “Hey, hey,” Kara gently cups your face. “You should be safe as long as you stay inside.”
“Yeah, but what about Alex and Lena and –”
“They’ll be fine, my love.” She kneels behind the couch, kisses the crown of your head. “If you need something, or feel anything, you call me and I’ll be here right away, ok?”
“Kar.” You hold her arm before she moves away. She looks back at you, interested. “Be safe out there, ok?” She agrees with her head as a promise. “Keep me posted.”
“You too.” She looks back with pleading eyes. “Babe, I’m serious about the importance of you staying inside, ok? The symptoms are not extreme, but we don’t know what could happen if you’re over-exposed.”
“I won’t leave.” You raise your little finger to touch hers and she smiles and the promise pact you two have.
You started this when you first found out she was Supergirl. Let’s just say you weren’t too thrilled about the fact that she had lied to you for so long that she was both your best friend Kara Danvers and National City’s savior Supergirl. She had her reasons. You know that. You know it was all about protecting you and blah-blah-blah. Still, you didn’t like being lied to, so you two made a pact to never lie to each other again, and to cross fingers when you needed to make a promise.
She intertwines her pinky with yours, kissing your hand right after. “Alright. I’ll be back later to see you.” Kara is about to open the window to fly out when she hears her sister on the comm.
“Kara.”
“On my way to the Tower, Alex.”
“Where are you right now?”
“Come to check upon Y/N, but she is safe so I’m heading over.”
“Don’t come.”
“What? Why?”
“Kara, the virus is affecting aliens too. Nia has fallen into a deep sleep and we can’t wake her up. Brainy is now a shade of purple –”
“WHAT?”
“And it has affected J’onn and M’gann ability to phase and fly.” Kara starts to whine, but Alex cuts her off. “Listen. It seems that its effect on aliens is worse. I need you to stay put while Lena, Brainy and I lock the Tower and figure this out.”
“But –”
“Sorry, sis. But you’re quarantined until further notice.” You can hear the smile on Alex’s voice when she adds, “have fun with Y/N.”
You look up to Kara’s pout, and raise your eyebrows at her. “It seems that –” She licks her lips, looking terrified. “We’re stuck here together.”
And you wonder what she is scared of. Maybe she thinks you are going to turn her down? But, it’s not possible, she knows you would never, even if you had a good reason to (which you don’t).
So you smile at her, trying to ease her mind. Then you settle for a joke, because that’s what you do best when you want to flirt and don’t have the courage to. “There’s one teeny tiny problem.” You force a smile as well while she furrows her brows worried. “I don’t think I have enough food in this apartment to feed a Kryptonian.”
“Oh, don’t worry.” But you see her scanning through your cabinets. “I’ve been wanting to try that new drone delivery. But, who’s got the time, right?”
“Well, apparently we do!” She smiles at that too, but you can tell she’s stressed about not being able to help. “Come,” you call her with your hands so she can sit next to you on the couch. “let’s watch TV.”
Kara changes out of her supersuit and back into her normal clothes, then flops on the couch next to you. She looks up from her lap, a cute confused expression on her face. “You know what I just realized? I only have this to wear. And we don’t know how long we’re stuck here.”
“Oh, yeah. About – About that.” You don’t look at her while you’re saying it. “I may or may not have a few pieces from your wardrobe.”
Kara crosses her arms on her chest, staring at you until you feel compelled to stare at her back.
“You know, a few pieces you have let me borrow over the years.” You explain while also not explaining a lot.
She raises both of her eyebrows and holds back a smirk. You exhale heavily.
“They’re comfortable, ok? They’re big and comfy and I –” You mumble your next words because they’re hard to admit. “I like your smell.”
This time the smirk comes, and you roll your eyes at her smug face.
“Whatever.” You get up from the couch, and she follows you to the bedroom. “Here’s my Kara drawer. It’s all yours.”
“Tsk tsk tsk.” She pretends with her mouth, and you let out another huff at that. “You let someone inside your life, only to later find out they’re stealing your hoodies and college t-shirts.” She adds, while looking in the drawer. “This is a felony, babe.”
“Alright, you just broke into my house. Chill the hell out, Supergirl.” You say, earning a loud laugh from her.
You go back to the living room, leaving Kara in your bedroom, still going through all the stuff you stole. Alright, ok, steal is a strong word. You borrowed with a huge time limit to give it back because it brings you comfort. Kara brings you comfort. Her smell and her big strong arms around you, never fail to make your day better. And when you can’t have that, then her big hoodie does the trick.
You are going through some stuff in your cabinet when you hear a sneeze. You stop whatever you’re doing immediately. You didn’t sneeze. Kara never sneezes. Unless –
You run back to your bedroom, “you sneezed.” you state without letting her open her mouth to argue. “I heard.”
“No, I –” She sneezes again.
“Oh my God, you’re sick.” You come closer, touching her face. She 's burning up. You look into her eyes to break the news with a sweet voice. “Oh Kar, you’re so hot.”
Kara’s face flushes red, and she gives you a little smile. “You think so? Well, I think – you’re hot too, babe.”
“What?” You furrow your brows, confused. “Your temperature is hot, my love.”
“Oh yes.” She is quick to say, adjusting the glasses on her face, face getting hotter and possibly more red. With that confused face only she can master to look so cute and so endearing, it makes you feel bad for making her think she is not, you know, hot. Which she obviously is.
You clear your throat, ignoring your wish to say that she is hot in every type of way. “You must be without your powers. Should we check? Can you lift that nightstand with one hand, please?”
“Mhm,” But instead, she lays back on the bed, getting settled. “I’m sure I can, but I’m a little tired right now.”
She obviously doesn’t have her powers. You take the hair out of her face, kiss her forehead softly, earning that precious little smile you love so much. “Why don’t you rest a little?”
Kara agrees, or doesn’t. You’re not sure, but she falls asleep so fast, you think she probably didn’t even hear you.
You text Alex about her condition and she asks you to keep her posted in case of any weird development. And you set off to make her a chicken soup so she can get better.
“Hey,” comes accompanied by three consecutives sneezes, a whole hour later. “sorry, sorry.” Kara says, noticing how your heart is racing. “Maybe I am a little sick.” She finally admits.
“Couch.” You point with your head, where a warm blanket is already waiting for her. She wraps herself in it, and you bring her the hot soup. “You know I’m not the greatest cook…”
She smirks, knowing this is an understatement, but she doesn’t say so. So thankful you made her something.
“Chicken soup for my sick –” You bite your tongue to what you truly wanted to say. “ Superhero.” You point at the boiling-almost-green-watery thing you gave her in a bowl. Kara smiles, weak and a little bit scared.
“I’m so weak.” She fakes, giving the soup back to you. Then she opens her mouth, and you chuckle, knowing exactly what she wants.
So you feed her, and she compliments you on your weird looking soup, eats until the last drop, then flashes you a big smile. “Now ice-cream.”
“No, you’re not having ice-cream just because you’re sick.”
Pout.
Blink. Blink. Blink.
She gets ice-cream.
And you get a thankful warm hug, comforting and overwhelming as always. So yeah, she absolutely deserved that ice-cream. Kara throws the blanket over your lap, you get the remote control and you decide together what’s worth binging.
And day one is over just like that.
The next day she decides to write an article about the virus, and you work for 20 minutes tops, because she is distracting. So fucking distracting.
“What are you doing?”
“Nothing!” Kara puts her hands behind her back and gives you an all-teeth smile. “Just chilling – here. Go back to work, babe.”
1 minute later.
“KARA!” You close your laptop and catch her red-handed. “Put my journal down, or I’ll tackle you. And remember you don’t have your powers yet. You are going down.”
“I’m bored!” You only raise one eyebrow at her, and she huffs, putting the journal back where she found it. “Fine. Then let’s do something fun.”
“We’re stuck inside this teeny tiny apartment, there’s nothing fun to do here.”
“That’s not true.” She sits in front of you, eyes soft and sweet. “You’re here, and if you give me enough attention I’ll just have the best of time.”
She can’t seriously be this flirty all the time. It’s not even fair.
Kara starts using your toiletry products, which is a shame. You almost think it is worth going to her house during these turbulent times, to get her shampoo and perfume, so she can smell like herself again. Maybe you are addicted to her smell.
She kisses your cheek for too long every night. And begs you to share the bed with her because she is, cof cof, so terribly sick. Her eyes also shine so bright when she sees you waking up every morning.
You easily fall into a routine. Too easy. As if you two are just supposed to be doing this ‘living together’ thing anyway.
When you wake up, Kara is already up and breakfast is always done. So you sit and eat together. Then she soaks up sunlight through the closed window and you do yoga. And you repeatedly have the conversation, ‘Kara, stop looking at my butt’, ‘Stop flashing it to me, then’. But you don’t, so she doesn’t either (hey, a girl gotta flirt somehow, ok?).
Then you two spend an awful long amount of time looking up recipes online with the ingredients you have available, before cooking. And when you two are finally done, it comes off a little meh. But you eat it anyway, and have fun doing it every time.
After lunch you both settle on the couch. Kara naps on your lap while you read or work without her distractions. When she wakes up, you watch tv or talk for hours, until she’s hungry again. You both go back to the internet to find something to cook, then give up midway and order something online to be delivered by drone.
Alex calls after dinner, informs you of the situation out there and reassures you that they are getting closer. She says the same thing everyday, Kara gets hopeful and you think Alex is probably lying to keep her sister well-behaved.
After the entire pre bed routine, she lays next to you, kisses your cheek for a few seconds too long, making you feel hot and alive inside, tells you how lucky she is that you’re stuck inside together and falls asleep. And you obviously stay awake for another hour, thinking about all the ways she flirted with you that day, and how she makes you feel tingly on the inside.
Some nights there’s even more flirting going around. She blames it on her fuzzy sick brain, though she is hardly even sneezing anymore.
“It’s going to be hard —“ Kara says one night. Doesn’t finish her thoughts, so you have to ask.
“What is?”
“Not sleeping next to you when this whole thing ends.”
Then she falls asleep and you spend another two hours overthinking what she meant by that, while she lightly snores, hands tangled in yours under the same blanket.
“Alex, please.” You hear her one night, whispering in the bathroom, behind closed doors, as if she is telling a secret you shouldn’t know about. Which only makes you more curious because you’re not supposed to have secrets. “Send the Supergirl exosuit. You know it’s safe. I could go help you guys.” Alex answers on the other side, but you can’t hear her. “Just – I know. Yeah, look I – I can’t stay here anymore, Alex. It's getting too hard.”
You furrow your brows, confused. Because you were thinking you two had fallen into a peaceful routine.
“It’s so hard being around her all the time. Just send the suit and I’ll go to the Tower to help you guys.”
Oh.
“Ugh, fine. I hope you’re happy with making my life harder.”
You bite the inside of your mouth, crushed. Heart shattering into a thousand pieces. Eyes full of tears fighting to come down, while you fight to hold them inside. God, you’re so stupid. You thought Kara liked you. Hell, you even thought she might love you! But all this time, all she wanted was a way out because you’re so hard to be around.
You don’t get it. How does someone who would do anything to make you feel loved and heard, that reminds you everyday how special you are to her, that can’t see herself not sleeping next to you in the future, cannot stand being around you anymore?
Kara leaves the bathroom, finds you face-buried in a book hiding your flushed face, “Hey, there’s a new episode of The Last of Us tonight. Wanna watch it?”
“No, thank you.” You swallow the tears and the lump on your throat. “You – You go.”
“I can’t watch it without you. It’s our show.”
“Oh, we don’t have a show.” You bicker, so mad with the fact that you were being lied to. Again. She promised you she would never do that again. “We don’t have anything. In fact, Kara,” you put your book down, staring at her with red eyes. “Why don’t you go be around someone you can stand, huh?”
“What?” So shocked, like she wasn’t just saying that in the bathroom. It fills you with even more anger.
“Yeah. Get your clothes, and go break into some else’s apartment,” You throw your book to the side of the bed and get up, “ask them to fucking feed you soup while you’re sick –”
“Babe, what are you talking about?” Kara takes a step back, while you take one forward.
“I’m talking about the fact that you are a liar, you coward.” You step into her space, holding the once-hers-once-yours-now-hers-again college t-shirt, into a tight grip. “One night you can’t see yourself sleeping without me and the next one you’re asking Alex for a way out of here.”
“Oh, no, babe, that’s not –”
“You fucking liar. Get the fuck out of my house with or without the exosuit, I don’t care.” But you care, and it is clear that you do, because you’re still holding her tight making it impossible for her to move away, while you sob into her t-shirt. “You’re a coward.”
Kara pulls closer. One hand keeping you inside her hug, the other tangling itself in your hair. "I'm a coward.” She agrees in a whisper. “I am. I am.”
And you can’t believe you’re allowing the woman who just said it’s hard to be around you, to comfort you! And you hate that her hug does that for you, even though she just broke your heart.
“I’m a coward because I can’t –” She steps away, looking at your tear-soaked face. “I can’t tell you why it is so hard for me to be around you.”
“No.” You stop her from moving away, by tightening the grip on her t-shirt. “No, you don’t get to run away! You owe me! You owe me the truth!” You’re crying and she’s crying and maybe you’re yelling too, you’re just not sure anymore. Everything is so quiet, like the world just stopped and held its breath to hear this. To hear her answer. “You owe it to me why you hate me.”
“I don’t hate you.” You almost scoff, but she rushes. “I don’t. I could never. I love you.”
“How can you love me if you can’t even be around me?” You argue, disgusted. “STOP LYING TO ME!”
“I’M NOT LYING!” Kara matches your screaming tone, then realizes what she did, and whispers again. “I’m sorry. I’m – not lying. I love you. I love you so much. More than I should. More than any friend would love the other. I –” She breathes out. Hand aggressively rubbing her forehead, desperate with the confession.
Kara takes one step forward and then, as if she realizes she is too close to you, takes a step back. “God, I love you since the first time I saw you in that stupid eggplant costume on Halloween. I made a bet with Alex that you were a beanbag, and I lost 5 bucks, but I didn’t care because I got to talk to you. And you made me laugh, and you made my day so much better, and I – I loved you that day. And every day after that. And I loved you with burning passion every time I saw you ever since.”
You blink, so utterly confused.
“So you wanna know why is it so hard to be around you?” You nod, even though you’re sure she is going to tell you anyway. “Because I’m a coward who can’t tell you how much I’m in love with you.”
You wait a beat. Then two. She doesn’t take back, doesn’t run, doesn’t urge you to say anything. You raise your little finger at her and whisper so low and, at the same time, so loud, in the quiet of the night. “Promise?”
She intertwines her pinky with yours, kissing your hand as a promise right after. And you pull her head so she can kiss you where you want, demand, need her to.
It’s lips crashing and ‘I love you’s in breathless, hungry, truthful whispers. Then another kiss, and another I love you for good measure. I’ve always loved you. I’ll always love you. Mouths and hands and body parts, so keen and passionate and yours. All yours.
The easily set routine just becomes easier. Kisses during breakfast; sun and yoga and ‘oh wow, look at your butt babe’; laughing while making lunch; make out sessions between movies; slow dancing in the kitchen floor; shared pre bed routine; making love and feeling love and growing love; sleeping at the same time without having to overthink anything because it is, finally, all crystal clear.
When Alex says you can leave the apartment, that the air is finally clean and everything is fine, you smile when you think that the air has been clean and life has been more than fine for you for days.
You and Kara make way to the Tower to meet your friends and see if they’re all ok.
“So what happened while we were quarantined?” Kara inquiries. “How did you guys figure this out?”
“We just switched up the isotope to make the virus inert. But I do have to admit, it took us more time than it should’ve.” Alex says, looking at you and Kara with a soft smile. “I hope it wasn’t too much of a problem staying stuck in a small apartment with each other for a week.”
You and Kara stare at each other, secrets welling up and love overflowing, before shrugging. “T’was fine.”

All you remembered was seeing an unfamiliar planet, somewhere you didn't want to call home, ever.
Now somewhere in a grassy field, you sat unconscious, in the pod that saved you from death, while your home planet was destroyed a long time ago. You, while fleeing your home planet, followed another pod into the phantom zone, and stayed there long after it had gone. Left all alone, for so long, just like you had been before, left in the silence of space...
 ---
"Supergirl, we just need you to check it out." J'onn told Kara, as the Kryptonians sister, adding her opinion.
“We haven’t even classified it as a threat,” Alex said, warning her sister to not be aggressive, and Kara turned to leave but was stopped by J’onn.
“Oh, one more thing,” J’onn turned to address the Kryptonian. “We believe it to be Kryptonian.” The blonde froze for a moment and then turned towards the sky and flew away. Kara's mind was racing as her sister got on comms and gave her a location
“You be careful,” Alex said typing something into the computer and added in a whisper “-especially if they really are Kryptonian...”
---
You felt funny, a good funny, but it was- The feeling was so difficult to describe, almost like your whole body felt the happiness in your heart, but you weren’t particularly happy, your body was tingling in excitement though.
Feeling strong, feeling like you could do more than just sit around, you were getting used to the feeling of safety and strength rolling over you, when a shadow came out in front of your eye line and your eyelids peeled open, right as the top hatch of the pod, you were sitting in, came off and with it, a million different noises filled your head, making it feel like it was about to explode, as the feeling of safety went right out the pod. You screamed.
“I’m not here to harm you.” Said a strange voice in a familiar tongue. “Will you let me help you?” The same voice said again, it rang in your ears, and it fought very hard to stay at the forefront among all the strange, foreign noises trying to invade your thoughts. You looked up and saw a man with, jet black, almost dark blue hair, a red sheet swaying in the wind, attached at his shoulders, and a respected glyph laid upon his chest.
“Who are you?” You're not sure where you are or who is talking to you, the only thing that makes you feel a little bit better, is that he is speaking your language. “Where am I?” You asked the man in Kryptonese.
“You are on Earth.” He starts calmly, waiting a moment before proceeding, being careful to keep his distance. “What’s your name? I am Kal-el.” He smiles softly at you, speaking slowly.
“Earth…?” A weight fell in your heart, and a sudden sadness flowed through you, forgetting about the fear of your safety on this Planet. “Where is Krypton, Kal-el?” You asked, sadness in your voice without fully registering your thoughts.
Clark gulped, “I’m sorry, it’s all gone.” His words broke your already shattered heart, and for a moment all the thoughts and noise went away, silence was the only thing you could hear, before unconsciously speaking again.
“Where did it all go?” You asked the brave man, innocently. Kal-el couldn’t be the one to tell you, the pod crystal would explain it all to you in time.
“That is for you to figure out.” You nod your head at his words, there was somewhere in his voice that felt safe, felt trusting, it reminded you of home. You looked up and he held out his hand for you, pulling you out of the still smoking pod that carried you here, to Earth. The ground beneath you, felt so different under your shoes from how Krypton had, well from what you can remember of your former home.
“Clark?” Another voice said in the distance, not far from where you and Kal-el stood.
“It’s Kal-el here, Kara.” He held your hand lightly in the air.
“Ah,” Kara paused when she finally looked at you, knowing you couldn’t have been older than 15.“What’s your name..?” Kara asked you, resting her arms at either side of her suit.
The new girl had yellow hair, the same red sheet, and the same house glyph resting on the same blue as Kal-el, you now understood that she was trustworthy, if Kal-el knew her.
“My name is Y/n. Daughter of the House of Y/l/n.” You said, finally answering Kal-el’s long forgotten question.
”I am Kara, from the House of El, same as Kal-el, here.” She smiled tenderly at you.
“Brother and sister?” You asked, just as curious as you sounded, brow furrowed in confusion.
“Cousins!” Kal-el gives a laugh, as Kara walks closer to the both of you. Kara gives you another smile and turns to her cousin, speaking in a language you had forgotten was stored in your memory.
“Alex wants me to take her in, just to watch her for now. Make sure she’s safe.”
“Are you sure? The farm could always use another pair of hands.”
“Yeah,” Kara reassured him. “I don’t want something to happen, and I mean- I am stronger,” Kara smirks at her cousin in a serious moment.
“Yeah, yeah..” Clark shook his head in a playful annoyance. Kal-el turns back to you saying, “Y/n, you will go with Kara,” You take a step back, taking your hand away from Kal-el’s.
“We don’t want to hurt you, just to keep you safe.” Kara says quickly.
“This planet has people that can hurt you, but me and Kara are going to watch out for you.” Kal-el added to Kara’s statement.
“No harm will be done to you, Y/n. I promise, can you trust us?”
---
3 hours later
You sat on the ground, in a cell, with a tear-stained face, wishing Kal-el were here and that the horrible ringing in your ears from the silence would go away, with a sleeve of your Kryptonian clothes tasered off at a weird angle, letting your forearm show.
Kara was stressed out and you hadn't even been here for a day yet. Alex was dealing with the agents that had accidentally scared you. And you apologized in English over and over again, hoping that it would help.
Before J’onn or Alex even had a say, you were put in a cell by three other agents that were able to get you to calm down enough and left you all alone, freaking you out in doing so. When you heard the airlock seal and everything went silent, your head wasn’t so filled with noise anymore, but you felt as if your strength had been taken from you. The only thing you could hear was your breathing, before the bang of the door at the other side of the big room startled you, and just like that, you were all alone again. You didn’t even notice the green lights turn on until you couldn’t take the silence much longer.
Kara had been out for maybe an hour to go to CatCo and talk with a source about her current article, while you stayed at the DEO, in a cell, under green lights that made every part of your skin hurt, when Kara got a phone call and flew to the DEO with anger flowing through her veins.
“You put her in a cell?!” She shouted across the room. Startling most of the agents and making Winn wince in his seat.
“Supergirl, you need to know the whole story,” J’onn tried reasoning with The Girl of Steel.
“Don’t.” She cuts him off aggressively, walking up to main console area. “I told her she would be safe here. Not locked up for something she can’t control!” The Girl of Steel throws her arms in the air, out of anger.
“I’m not saying she should stay in the cell, but Kara,” Alex tried to reason with her sister. “she doesn’t have her powers under control at all.” Supergirl gives her sister an annoyed glance before saying anything.
“I wasn’t put in a cell when I got here, now was I?” She points the question to her superiors, who stay quiet.
“Where is she?” Alex takes a breath and leads Supergirl, silently, to your cell. Alex opened the door for her sister. Kara, being angry, and knowing what it was like to feel trapped, she couldn’t imagine what Y/n was feeling. She immediately opened your cell door.
“Y/n, come with me.” You shook your head at Kara’s words, trying to move away from the door, as you feel your strength start to creep back in.
“No. I hurt them. I don’t want to hurt the Humans.” You said trying to keep yourself from crying. Kara’s expression softened and walked towards you slowly.
“It wasn’t your-” Kara’s gaze shifted upwards, slightly feeling the posion from the green lights shining down on you. “Fault…” A new fueled rage filled with shock flowed through Kara. You didn’t notice Kara’s findings, but Alex did.
“Kara…” Alex put her hand over her mouth in horror, not aware of this till now. You weren’t listening to the agents, only could tell they were yelling at one another. All you knew was that of course you didn’t mean to but it was your fault.
“It wasn’t her fault!” Kara shouts at her sister, cutting the conversation to a close.
“Nothing seems to be my fault but look at what happened, before I got here everything was in perfect order.” You finally gave in to your tears and stuffed your face into your knees. Kara heard you, turning instantly, and took in the scene of you crying, underneath the kryptonite, pulled into a ball, she was almost brought to tears herself.
“Hey, Y/n, look at me..” Kara stepped forward, crouching down to be near you. “I promise you that things were never in perfect order since Kal-el and I got here a long time ago. Everything will be alright, just need some time to- Re-adjust, okay.” She smiles at you, as you lift your head slowly and nod, wiping your remaining tears away.
“Today I will teach you how to control your powers, but that also means being able to control your emotions too, think you can handle that?” You gave her a more confident nod. Supergirl walked out of the cell and you slowly followed, looking away from Alex, as you walked by, and out the door, following the red cape down the hall.
---
Two weeks later
“Y/n, Kara is going to be taking you with her today!” Alex said walking into the Med bay and over to the bed you sat upon.
“Where will we be going?” You sat on the bed uninjured in any way.
“You will have to ask her, I bet it’ll be a fun day!” You smiled slightly at the agent’s words.
“Will I get to see Earth, now?” Alex smiles, as she checks your last blood sample.
“Yes, and don’t worry you’ll get to see more and more with time.” You and Alex both, quickly, turn your heads toward the door; shouting coming from outside the room.
“You should understand that I am trying to keep my country safe, and without rules for the-” The door shut closed, as you and Alex both heard General Lane’s voice, booming from the level below both of you being cut off from the, now closed door.
You felt a ping of guilt flow through you, the General, that anger you heard from him was because of your presence, you knew it so.
“Kara, should be here soon.” Alex said, going back to her work, silently.
You had learned in the last two weeks that your being here had caused a lot more problems than anticipated, you had been told multiple times by Alex and Kara and some computer nerd, that you were not the problem, and that this was none of your fault. You were sure that it was your fault, but you wouldn’t let them know that. You knew they were trying to fix it.
Kara slipped in through the door letting a few booming words get past the doorway and closed it immediately.
“I’m here!” She smiled across the serious room.
While kara was all smiles, you could only think of how this was all your fault but you couldn’t do anything to fix it, you didn't have a clue where to start if you were to fix things.
“Are they still arguing…?” You asked, staring blankly at her. Kara nodded her head guiltily, and you rested your head in your hands, feeling defeated.
“Hey, let's get going, we're gonna have so much fun, today!” Kara put her hands on your forearms, and wiggled them gently, making you look up at her, while she tried to cheer you up.
---
The shirt felt weird, and the the sweater was going to make you suffocate. Anyways, you walked out to show Kara.
"Wow- Are you okay?" Kara asked when she noticed you're stressed face, and you shook your head.
"It's too tight." Kara rushed over and pulled the sweater off you, then giving you different clothes of hers to try on.
You weren’t sure how the other Kryptonian wore this every day, it felt like you would melt with, pants, a button-up shirt, and a sweater that made it feel like you had flown too close to the sun with Icarus.
“How- How do you wear this?” Kara chuckled at your question and walked over to you.
“If you're hot, you could try it without the sweater?” You nod in a hurry and she pulls it over your head, then putting it away as you speak.
“Do you have a breakfast?”
“Do I have a-” Kara started to repeat your question, before she realized what you were asking. “Yes, I do! Do you like pancakes?” Your face lit up with excitement, shouting,
“PANCAKES?!” Making Kara jump a little, but smile all in all at your excitement. “I love pancakes, so much” You sat down smiling, happily awaiting your pancakes.
-
“Okay, last thing is glasses.” Kara moved over to her bed, after cleaning up breakfast.
“Oh, that’s okay Kara, my eyesight is perfectly fine. I can even see through walls.” You took a bite of pancake.
“No, it’s not for your eyesight-”
“Are they spy glasses then?” You cut her off with your curiosity and a mouthful of pancakes.
“No, let me finish this time.” She gave you a strict look.
“Right, sorry.”
“Thank you. The glasses are for hiding your identity, so then if you ever want to be a superhero like me, no one will tell the difference between you and your superhero counterpart.” There was an awkward silence between the two of you for a moment.
“Can I talk now?” You asked innocently.
“Yes.” Kara breathed out, trying to hide her smile from how wholesome you were.
-
You touched down unsteadily on the concrete ground, wearing some of Kara’s clothes and a rain jacket, even when it was nowhere close to raining, with nice clear blue skies, but Kara wanted to make sure you wouldn't be cold. The dark color of your jacket was a large contrast from your lighter shirt and jeans, making you pop from the dimness of the backstreet you now stood in.
Your eyes scanned everything, the grove in the rocks, small piles of trash scattered around, a tattered, worn, pink couch that you knew wasn’t top of the line but was more comfortable than most, the steam coming from a mysterious place in the wall, the little pieces of grass swaying in the wind that blew by you invisibly and all the different textures of dirt, bricks and the fresh sounds that came with this brand new location on Earth.
“Come on, Y/n/n.” Kara gestured for you to follow her out towards the world, with tall buildings all around, the part of the world that was much more colorful, and warmer feeling, than this place, far from this place in between two large bricks..
To Kara this part of the world was always more chaotic, more noisy, more littered with people, more enemies around, and more threats. But to you, it was the best most exciting, most-
“What’s this?” Had been your question of the day, wanting to know the answer to all the different objects you had encountered, big or small, yearning to know what they were, why they looked like that, and how they worked. Even trying to go and touch a snake you found before being hissed at and scared out of your mind by its aggressiveness. All you wanted was to pet it.
“That’s a pen, Y/n.” Kara said, taking no more than 5 seconds, away from her coffee, to see what you were holding up and noticing the confusion plastered on your face.
“What is its function, though?” You examined the pen closely, not sure what it could be, while Kara moved all her things into one hand and looked over at you.
“It holds thoughts on paper.” She took it from your hands, and you almost grabbed it back, but waited, hoping she would read your mind. She uncapped the pen, writing out both your names on a paper she needed for work, while you stared in awe, but that was soon interrupted by a shout, as the elevator doors opened.
"Keriaaa!" Cat yelled for what seemed like the millionth time, before walking out of her office, hands on her hip, as Kara ran in, with you behind her.
"Miss Grant! I am so sorry, It will nev-".
"Who," Kara was cut off by Cat "is that, keria?"
She looked at you, suspiciously with a pointed finger. Kara hadn't thought about having to explain to Miss Grant about your being here.
"Y/n? She- uh-" Kara couldn't think. You poked out from behind the older Kryptonian and greeted Miss Grant with a small smile and a wave.
"Hello!" You didn't know she was supposed to be intimidating or a big respected news lady, not that you knew what the news was, to you she was just another regular Kryptonian, but this Krypton didn't have flying cars or anyone speaking Kryptonese and the clothing choices were very different, and no else could fly around like you could, so it wasn't really Krypton, but you didn't know anything else. Not until the DEO had told you everything you knew so far about this planet, which wasn't very much.
"Cousin! She's my cousin. Y/n is. My Foster Mom's, sister's daughter." Your face scrunches in confusion.
"I'm actually-" Kara swung her arm over your shoulder, bring you into a side hug.
"Hanging with me for a little while, for a visit, we don't see each other much." Kara pauses for a moment, "and my-".
"Keria." Cat said curtly as she nursed her newest headache "All this nonsense is making my head hurt, and all without my coffee." Kara hands the coffee over awkwardly and pulls you out of the room.
"Have I been calling you the wrong name this whole time?" Kara looks over at you, exhausted.
"No, it's Kara."
You think about it for a moment. "Oh, well I don't think the lady in there knows that.”
"She does." Kara lets out a sigh, glancing over into her boss’ office, pulling a spinny chair over for you to sit in.
You sat down and discovered that the chair moves in circles, without moving across the room itself. It was one of the coolest things you had ever seen. You spun in the chair a few times before stopping abruptly.
The phone was ringing, but to you that was the sound of death.
“Kar- Kara! What is that alarm for??” Kara was quick to assure you it wasn’t an alarm, and you didn’t need to panic.
“It’s just the phone ringing, Y/n, don’t worry.” Kara picked up the call, and immediately started drawing on a paper, with her pen. Which you now knew the function of; to hold memories on a paper.
-
You tapped Kara on the shoulder for the millionth time, when she finally turned towards you, staring daggers. You instantaneously backed up and left her alone until the phone call had ended.
“Y/n,” She whisper yelled towards you, “that was an important call. I need you to-”
“Kara, I really have to go the bathroom.” You interrupted.
“What?”
“Where is the bathroom?” Kara now understanding, showed you to it, so you wouldn’t get lost.
---
“Hey Kara,” Jimmy Olsen walked towards the blonde.
“Hey!” She smiled at her friend, starting to worry as you had been gone for almost a half hour, in the bathroom.
“Winn, might have told me some interesting news...” Jimmy makes a questioning face at Kara, before they are interrupted by their boss, who had noticed Kara’s little cousin was gone.
“Keria! I need you make sure layout has the right colors I sent them!” Cat yelled from her office.
“I’ll be back," She started to walk away, saying to herself "She should be back soon,” Her voice turns into a whisper. “hopefully...” As Kara gets on the elevator headed straight for layout on the floor below.
-
“Hello…? Kara…?” You walked aimlessly back towards her desk, as Cat waved you inside her office.
“Keria is doing something for me. So. Your Keria’s little cousin?” She takes off her glasses and invites you to sit on the couch. You sit and nod.
“Yes, I am her- Cousin.” You struggled to get the words out, not remembering how to articulate the new word. The older woman hummed in response and sat across from you, crossing her legs, one over the other, staring you down.
“Keria doesn’t talk much about family.” She pondered in her seat.
“I live- Far away, so I do not visit very much.”
“Do you stay for long when you do visit?” She questioned you, and you froze having no idea what to say.
“Uh not very long, usually just- Days.”
“Days?”
“One days, usually.”
“Kara is quite a lot older than you it seems, what do you get up to when she is at work all day?”
“I work, also.” You outright lied.
“You do?” She asked questionably.
“Yes, I do… Oh, and I am 14.” You said proudly, if you didn't know anything in the world, you would always know how old you were. “Kara is much older than me, yes. We are cousins.” You smile at her trying not to seem weird.
“Y/n!” Kara practically shouts your name from the doorway, walking in to meet you. You stood at her arrival and smiled at Miss Grant as Kara took your arm and pulled you towards her desk.
“What was that? Did you tell her anything? What did she ask you?” Kara was mad and slightly worried her boss knew she had lied to her.
“I just told her I am 14, and we are cousins.” You starting to walk towards your chair but stopped in your tracks.
“Keria. Do you always interrupt people’s conversations like that? We were learning so much about each other.”
“I’m sorry Miss Grant, Y/n has,” Kara takes half a breath and continues. “School work she needs to be working on.” The Girl of Steel really got out of that just by the hem of her cape.
-
The constant sounds of the squeaky chair, spinning around and around, started to irritate the girl with super hearing.
The world started to spin faster and faster around, your vision blurring and then it stopped. All quite suddenly, almost throwing you out of the chair. Kara tightly held onto the chair, digging her fingers in it just enough to get a good grip and stop the irritating noise.
“Can you, please, stop.” She begged you. “Once I finish this article, we can go around the city, do you like ice cream?” You had no idea what an icecream was, but you wanted to have some and nodded in response, but groaned at the world still spinning a bit before your eyes, slowing down by the second.
“Thank you.”
---
You ran down the curb of the street, a smile on your face, as you secured you and Kara’s spot in line for ice cream. You curiously watched others walk away with happy faces, holding their ice cream from a triangle tube! You were excited to say the least.
Kara chuckled at you, “Excited?” she said walking up to you.
“More than! I’ve never ever had ice cream, even, in the history of all the worlds!” Kara couldn’t help but smile at your excitement for new things, knowing you would be learning about a lot of new things in the coming months, just as she once did.
“What?” You chuckled, noticing your new friend, observing you fondly.
“Nothing…” Kara said smiling, and continued to look you over, now understanding that you were going through what she did. The blonde made a vow to herself, in that moment, waiting for ice cream that she would always make sure you weren’t alone, like she had so often felt when she first got to Earth. Now she had a mission, someone to take under her wing and watch over. She never got that chance with her cousin.
You feel in love with ice cream, loving every part of it. Kara becoming your friend, along with Alex and the computer nerd, Winn, was one of best things ever! Everyday was fun, well the days without someone on the verge of death, were always a good time. Wether you were at the arcade with Alex, or at girls night with the scientist, named Lena, or just saving the day, when you were allowed to at least. And over time you were sure that one day you would call this place home, even if at first it wasn't so high on your priority list...

Baby danvers has an abusive boyfriend and Kara and Alex changed locks on her door ai he cant get in anymore and they stay at her apartment for a few days/weeks because they don't want her to be alone and there is a fight?
Tumblr media
Authors note: I wasn't sure who the argument should be with (whether it was Alex and Kara with Reader or the abusive ex-boyfriend with the Danvers Sisters), so I just went with the second option, hoping I was right.
ᕚ---ᕘ
Alex Danvers knelt on the floor of the apartment building, the door to your apartment wide open. Her facial expression looked serious as she holds the new lock in her hand, which she wanted to exchange for the old one. "I am going to change the lock on your door to make sure you are safe from him," she began to carefully and quickly remove the old lock while her eyes were focused on the new key mechanism she was installing.
You sat anxiously, irritably and slightly disoriented on the only intact piece of furniture the living room still had to offer, your apartment in shocking chaos. What was once a place of your comfort was now in a desolate and chaotic state. The living room, once inviting, resembled a battlefield. The floor was littered with broken glass pieces from coffee tables, books and documents lay in a chaotic mess on the floor, the dishes from the cupboards had been cleared out while the dining area was dominated by overturned chairs.
The entire apartment was plagued by an unbridled rage and desire for destruction, including you, who had suffered damage, your face marked by the marks of a fierce battle. "I know it hurts, but please hold still," Kara spoke compassionately and gently, dabbing a warm, wet cotton pad on your bottom lip and the slightly bleeding scratch on your cheek. She sat shaken in her seat on the couch, looking worriedly at the cuts and bruises on your face. The room was filled with a tense silence, only broken by your muffled cries of pain and the blonde's calm voice.
You winced and sighed loudly as you watched, shaking and with tears in your eyes, as the redhead tried her hardest. "Do not be afraid, he will not hurt you anymore. We will stay here and take care of you," she whispered with her gentle nature, and her hands moved with deliberate precision over your flushed face.
You tensed in pain, but gritted your teeth and tried to stay strong. Kara paused for a moment, looking up at you, her eyes full of sadness mixed with outrageous anger. "I am so sorry that you had to go through that and that Alex and I were not there to protect you," she gently brushed your matted hair out of your face and began to treat your wounds with an antiseptic ointment. Your features relaxed slightly as the cool balm touched your skin.
Kara spoke soft, comforting words as she cared for you, and your eyes filled with perfect tears of gratitude for your sisters, who you could always count on. After cleaning and bandaging the wounds, she carefully handed you a tissue to dry your tears before gently pulling you into her arms. In that moment she was your refuge, someone who stood by you in the darkest hours and helped you get back on your feet. You knew you could always count on your sisters, no matter what.
ᕚ---ᕘ
Days had passed since your now ex-boyfriend's violent outburst of anger at you. They had passed quietly, your sisters strictly at your side while you hardly dared to leave the apartment. You could not even make it to the mailbox on the ground floor, afraid he might already be lurking for you downstairs.
The moonlight cast pale shadows in the TV-lit living room as you sat on the couch, between your two favorite people, enjoying the new show Kara had suggested. Your heart had started to beat faster out of the blue, panic flooding your body as you jumped in fear, immediately putting your two sisters on alert. "Hey, kiddo. It is all good, you hear? It is just the neighbor."
You shook your head violently, aware of how his quick footsteps scattered on the creaking hallway floor and stopped in front of your door. "He is at the door," as soon as you said it in a whisper, he pounded on the door with an angry shout of your name, his fists crashing into the wood.
The dull echo echoed through the interior of your apartment, drowning out the silence of the night and the distant howl of the wind. Alex and Kara quickly stood up from their seats, your unsteady breathing making it difficult for you to calm down. He kept banging on the door, hoping you would open the door.
The mood in your apartment hung heavy in the air as Kara wrapped her arm around your shoulder and pulled you close. Your face was pale and you were shaking slightly, tears of fear running down your cheeks. Without further ado, Alex decided to open the door, her gun pointed strictly at him. He was initially surprised, but his face was contorted with anger, his eyes showed frustration, and his fists clenched with tension. "Alex, where is your sister? I need to talk to her," he tried to enter the apartment and push the redhead aside, barely frightened by her gun.
"Get out of here, she does not want to talk to you," Kara stood protectively in front of you, her expression determined as she shot him a warning look. He stepped energetically towards her and you ducked protectively behind her, waiting for the hand on your shoulders and the subsequent impact against a nearby wall, but that never came. Kara stood her ground against him without using her powers, Alex coming to a stop right next to her, her hand stretched out to you behind her. "I will warn you once more. Go away."
"Or what?" He asked and suddenly the argument flared up, this time in a wordless battle of looks and body language between your sisters and him, Kara's eyes starting to shine like lasers. They pushed him back, their resolve unshakable as he took short but quick steps backwards. In the midst of this tension, the man finally lost his courage, turned around without a word and left the apartment.
Alex and Kara breathed a sigh of relief when they were sure he was gone. They turned to you, who was still reeling from the incident and caught in her protective stance. They both took you tightly in their arms, completely wrapping your body in theirs, showing an expression of comfort and solidarity. In that moment you felt the warmth and love of your family, strong enough to protect you from the darkness of the world. "It is all good, sweetie. You are safe.“

Hello. KARA DANVERS
Do you think they did her wrong in season 6? With mon el
Just being friends. After she waited for him. And said that no human would ever be able to understand her...
Hmmm, interesting question! To be fair, I don't think that she was waiting for him anymore after his first return. I believe that despite the pain, she was able to start letting him go after that? So I never expected him to come back as a love interest, and I don't think it did her dirty for them to be just friends. He was going to marry another woman after all.
I personally was never attached to the idea of her and Mon-El. I think they work better as friends, and them being able to interact on an equal-understanding playing field one last time actually sounds like a good thing. Like finishing the healing.
I also had some life stuff happen right around the mid-season of season 6, so I never actually finished the show??? 😅 So take my opinion with a grain of salt. I know the basics of what happens, though.
There is a point about no human being able to understand her. She's right in that aspect actually. There are some things about her experience and her capabilities that she just can't apply in a human relationship. Im a huge advocate for Kara developing more alien friends and an alien romantic partner. I think they did her wrong in how they went about that aspect of her experience, just not particularly with Mon El.
They very rarely addressed the things that made her not human, that weren't her powers. Powers should have had a bigger impact on her daily life, yes, but to Kara, powers aren't what make her alien. Powers are alien to herself too. To Kal El, that is what makes him alien. What makes Kara alien is her upbringing, her religion, and her culture. Her very way of thinking and experiencing the world is kind of fundamentally different from humans.
Myriad would have worked on her if she even thought like a human.
I think many forget when Kara referenced her clumsiness being an act to Clark. Basically, all Im saying is there's a layer of deception and distance that's been required of her from the moment she landed on earth. A level of deception that is sometimes even present around her very human sister, Alex. She deserves someone that doesn't need that, someone who can take her anger and her fear, and her joys and her passions. Someone who isn't too fragile to touch on her worst days.
Sorry, that strayed a little bit from the original ask, I just think that her alienness should have been addressed more. It was a valid argument for her relationship with Mon-El, but there were some other forms of disconnect between them, too.

My ultimate blorbo <3 but for real I relate to her on so many levels but especially with her adoption storyline. I rarely find characters that depict my feelings as well as hers regarding her adoption and it was such a surprise and refreshing take. Her s2 chat with Ámbar is by far one of my fave scenes ever on this topic. And beyond that I just love her optimism and kindness. She’s def more active and athletic than me and has way more of a bubbly personality. So I wouldn’t say she’s me exactly, but I do like to call her my daughter <3
Bia (BIA)
Tumblr media
I love Helena a lot and think about her often, but I have a soft spot for my dcla lead girlies and I just feel that while Bia may be considered the coolest and laidback dcla lead, there’s so much more to her (I GET HER THE MOST!!! The baby sister energy it me it me). She’s also dealing with so so so much. And as I watched the series, I connected a lot with her grief and how she used creativity and friendship to power through difficult times. And I admired her for how she never made everything about herself but always went out of her way for the people around her.
Francesca Caviglia (Violetta)
Tumblr media
Vilu is so close, but I think ultimately I choose Fran as my fave (I mean Vilu would too). There’s this scene in s3 where Diego comments on how much she loves her friends and how loyal she is and ugh that’s exactly why I love her so much too (preach Diego!!) She really just cares so deeply for her friends and it’s so 🥹 also her voice??? Girl can sang!!! Girl can perform!!! When she starts strumming that guitar and sings out her heart I am SEATED!! Plus like everyone on this crack show she can be an absolute looney tune and I love her for it <3
Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Supergirl)
Tumblr media
First of all Melissa Benoist deserves an Emmy for her role. She embodied Supergirl in every damn way and I bow down to her. But ugh I just love everything Kara is and stands for. She’s everything I wish I could be. She’s what I strive to be. She’s everything. I’m very normal about it!!!
Lorelai Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)
Tumblr media
If Luna is my daughter, Lorelai is my bonus mother. This lady raised me. She was such a role model to me growing up and rewatching the series I still was just as enamored with her as I was as a kid. I just adore her sense of humor. I never take life too serious and she taught me it was ok to be my goofy self all the way into adulthood because you better have some fun when life knocks you around. Not to mention all her pop culture references. I wanted to be as cool as her soooo bad. (And I blame my coffee addiction on her)
Abed Nadir (Community)
Tumblr media
He’s any tv fanatic’s fave for good reason. He perfectly exemplified what it means to love television/film/media and have hyper fixations. And he never stopped being himself no matter what anyone thought of him even tho he was always so fully aware of what people thought of him. He also just had the biggest heart. He loved the study group so much he saw them the same way he saw his favorite shows. And I just ❤️
Zoey Clarke (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist)
Tumblr media
It’s been a while since I watched this show but it was really nice to have a modern show revolved around someone my age that did such a good job of depicting what that looks like balancing all parts of her life. I also like that she’s more rough around the edges and introverted but still a very caring individual. Even tho unlike her I would LOVE witnessing everyone’s heart songs and music in general I loved experiencing that reluctant journey with her. I feel like she’s someone who I would click with so easily. (Also cool that she worked in STEM!)
Lemon Breeland & Wade Kinsella (Hart of Dixie)
Tumblr media
My rewatch of Hart of Dixie was such a gift and my love for Lemon just grew a second time around. She’s someone I relate to the least but I just was so obsessed with her arc. And even tho she could be vain and cruel, there was also such a softness to her. And the way she grappled with the pain of her mother’s abandonment and proved herself to be nothing like her was beautiful to watch. I love how damn determined she always was to fight for herself as well as those she loved.
I’m cheating but idc because Wade had a similarly amazing arc becoming the man he was always meant to be. I love that that he always did care for his father and the town of Bluebell. He played himself down and acted like he didn’t care but he always stepped up when it mattered and when he finally got the confidence to see himself as something more, he really became a better man and I was so damn proud of him.
(Also their unlikely friendship: iconic)
Winston Bishop (New Girl)
Tumblr media
Every character on this show is lovable and funny af. But I just adore Winston so much. In the beginning they had such a hard time figuring out who he was going to be but once they channeled this puzzling Prank Sinantra bird shirt wearing cat lover it was kismet. And as absolutely bonkers as his character was he was still grounded and deserved his happy ending too. I love how he ended up falling for Aly and how amazing that relationship ended up being next to the more setup stories for Nick/Jess and Schmidt/CeCe through the years. I’m so glad they threw away their initial plans of him being a smug b-ball dude to just being the fun loving Furguson dad we know and love.
Tagging whoever feels like it 🤪

Top 100 Ladies of TV
Looking at old blog posts, many years ago I did a "100 favorite female characters" list, but I have met so many wonderful new ladies now that it is quite out of date and needs a major update to accommodate them. International Women’s Day seems like the perfect time to do so!
Only this time I'm restricting it to TV characters, or I will die of Overwhelm.
NOTE: This list is not in any kind of order, I just wrote them down as they came to mind. I considered alphabetical, but found it was nicer to keep everyone from a given show together. And rather than starting from scratch, I kept as much of the original list as I could and just added newer favorites on at the end, if you're wondering why some of these Very Old Fandoms are clustered at the top.
