omg hahahha i definitely thought he was your younger brother omg. oooh that sounds good, is it like an array of foods everytime ? ohhh thatâs cool, are there a lot of sacred places to go to ? like would a temple? be an appropriate place ? and of course, itâs really cool to learn about !! yeah i totally get that. i really like those parts of it too, it seems really nice to have values like that and practice patience and kindness :) ooooh i really like the God as a best friend as well, that seems really nice. if youâre comfortable answering, what parts do you not really believe in anymore ?
yeah, if it doesnât feel comfortable then there wonât be growth and it just doesnât feel right. i believe that thereâs some kind of higher power, im not fully sure what i believe that is, but i donât think humans are the most powerful for sure. i also do a lot of manifestation and things like that within myself to attract the positive things, and things that are supposed to happen. also donât call me crazy pls i swear im not lol but i have always been psychic so iâve been trying to listen to that more. like iâll see exact visions of whatâs about to happen before they do, or wake up thinking that something is gonna happen that day and it does, or knowing that someone is upset even if they havenât done or said anything to make me think that. and i think that also ties into spirituality. a few days ago someone in my family passed away and she came and spoke to me before i knew she had passed. like we shared memories of when we used to see eachother, and then i found out that night. the time she passed was when she talked to me, so a lot of things like that donât phase me because i already know. i just donât say that bc i sound insane and my family is super super against anything like that. (my mother calls me cold hearted đ¤¨iâm like⌠but iâm not⌠lmaooo) and of course itâs not everything that doesnât affect me, this is gonna sound stupid too bc i just talked about a person but when my cat died, i knew something was wrong and we couldnât find him but he had already died and i left the house and i swear i kept feeling his presence like telling me to go home and it wouldnât go away, and i just felt awful (i just figured he had been hiding, as cats do) but when i found him i was still absolutely so so sad even though i kinda already knew. anyways, sorry that was so long omg. ikr ?!? and i donât think anyone in my religion believed there were dinosaurs even though thereâs so many bones⌠like wtf. it doesnât make sense to me. and yeah hell doesnât make sense to me, i think heaven is real but not in the way christianity makes it out to be. but YES EXACTLY like if god is so loving and caring why would they send people who donât follow exactly whatâs written to hell??? but yesss i find religions so intersting, i always wished there was a world religion class in my school !!
-đ
LMAO RIGHT he once introduced me to his friend, who was convinced I was his older sister. and yes! nowadays, we'll have a little bit of several different foods because we've realized that works best since we get the variety and it's suited to what we eat. oooh, so, mosques are kind of our religious temples, but the pilgrimage that's part of the five pillars is specifically for the Kaaba - it's pretty much the big place all Muslims should strive to visit at least once. and for sure, I think those values are so important both in and out of religion! in terms of what I don't believe in, I'm not sure how much I believe in the stories of the Prophets now, and Islam has a bunch of stories where the Prophets did these very powerful, unearthly things. and I just am really unsure where I stand in terms of believing those stories.
oooh, I definitely see that. my friend sometimes brings up how it does make sense to believe in a higher power when you consider how the world fits perfectly together like a puzzle? like, the way food grows naturally, how materials for shelter are here for us to find, how animals help us, etc. - it's all so perfectly sorted and fitted to one another. oooh, so I have heard of manifestation, but don't know much on it, what kind of things do you do for it? and omg no, I don't think you're crazy at all. I actually find that so interesting because I don't know much about that kind of form of spirituality. damn, that's actually so interesting that you have those very vivid and exact visions of things that will occur before they truly do. for the relative who passed away, I'm so sorry to hear that's happened. when you say she came to you, do you mean she came in a vision to you? like, around the time she passed away, she came to you in a vision and spoke to you about the memories you two shared? I'm also really sorry your mom called you that - like, it's not due to you being cold-hearted, it's because something has occurred that already makes you anticipate the future event. it's not stupid at all, animals are also super valuable and important, especially one who was in your family and home for a while. so, it's kind of like you almost had a sense that something was wrong already and an urge to head home to learn what had happened? also, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know your cat must've meant so much to you, so I'm so sorry that happened. and omg, yeah, like there is so much proof of other creatures and dinosaurs. and oooh, so how do you envision Heaven personally? omg, I think you would've loved my world religions class then! (I still have the notebook if you ever want any info on a religion we may have learned about hehe)

Jungkook glances down at his phone, seeing the text he had just sent. A simple string of letters that spelled âiâm outsideâ, a familiar pattern his fingers had memorized. Except for the first time in a very long time the text wasnât being sent to you.
The device pings with a response from Taehyung, stating he was on his way down, so he locks it once more and sets it underneath his radio in his car. Jungkook grunts as he catches on to the lyrics ringing in his car and skips the song currently playing, it was one of your favorite songs and once he listened to the lyrics he felt like it was a direct jab at him, especially when you had asked him to download it with that same smile that lead to heartbreak. That didnât stop him doing as you asked, just because you liked it so much.
The amount of times the song I Feel Bad by Blackbear had played in his car as he left your place had nudged it up the algorithm, making his phone constantly play it when he shuffled all of his songs. He needed to fully delete it from his library.
Jungkook had to admit he was doing pretty good, it was going on 6 weeks and you were still blocked from his instagram. He had even gone as far as making his page private to prevent you from lurking, he doubted youâd go to that extent though, not as desperate to see Jungkookâs life play out without you in it. Surely you had moved on to the next shiny toy.
The only thing he had yet to do was block your number, the small no dignity having part of him hoped that maybe youâd reach out, maybe youâd apologize for anything and everything, maybe youâd wake up and realize how you truly felt for him.
That never happened.
Your thread of messages was bone dry, taunting him in his inbox so much he had to delete it all to stop himself from typing out a message at 3am in sheer desperation. He wouldnât be reaching out and it was clear you wouldnât be either.
âHey man.â Taehyung greets him as he pulls the passenger door open, sliding in with ease and slamming it shut behind him. Jungkook blinks back to reality, giving his friend a small smile as they shake their hands in the playful way they always did.
âJiminâs not with you?â He wonders, expecting the other boy to have come down with him since they all had plans together.
Taehyung shakes his head as he settles into the seat, adjusting his messy hair in the visor and buckling up just as Jungkook pulls out of the parking spot. âNah, heâs at his apartment. He told you heâs bringing someone with him right?â
Jungkook frowns at that because no, Jimin hadnât mentioned bringing anyone along with him and he really hoped it wasnât a girl. The last thing he wanted was to be subjected to seeing them swap spit when they were meant to be having a guys day. It seemed a little stupid for Jungkook to hope for that but he had grown to appreciate spending more time with his friends lately, once again realizing just how much of his time you had consumed, always ditching the plans he had with his friends to go get his dick wet and his heart shredded.
âItâs some guy that just started working with him.â Taehyung fills in, taking the initiative to be in charge of the music because Jungkookâs current mix was sort of depressing. He frowns as he scrolls through the artists, choosing to type someone in to play music that wasnât in his library.
When the beginning sounds of a hit Bad Bunny song fill the car Jungkook nearly swerves as he whips his head to stare at Taehyung bobbing along, âSince when the fuck do you know spanish?â
âI donât, you just gotta vibe along.â He proves his statement by proceeding to horribly sing along in broken spanish, but his energy is contagious, spreading to Jungkook until he was eventually dancing along with him. The two of them making up their own moves on the short drive to Jiminâs and Taehyung canât help but feel successful at making his friend have a good time. It had been a while since Jungkook behaved like his usual self.
Him and Jimin still didnât know about you but after he had decided to block you he had fallen into a tiny pit of despair, returning to the shell of himself that they had seen during the weeks you had ghosted him. It took a lot of coaxing before they were able to pull him out, not asking any questions about anything no matter how much their curiosity itched.
They knew their best friend was hurting so they tried their best to do whatever they could to make it better, constantly reaching out to drag him out of his one bedroom apartment, making plans he couldnât say no to, being the best wing men they could whenever they hit up bars. It had worked though, they had managed to fill up the small you shaped void inside of him enough for him to be able to ignore.
He never really thought of you until he was completely alone, usually when the sky was the darkest and he had trouble sleeping, remembering the countless nights youâd text him to come over when you were also restless. On nights like that heâd force himself to take a sleeping aid, not wanting flashbacks of you underneath him to wear down his strength when he had been doing so well.
So far so good.
âIs this Bad Bunny?â Jimin instantly asks when he enters the car, having already been waiting outside of his complex with his friend beside him.
âYeah!â Taehyung laughs, turning the volume up slightly.
Jimin just shakes his head as he slides over in his seat, giving Jungkook a similar greeting before his friend follows suit. Heâs a silver haired guy with sharp eyes, a small smile being sent Jungkookâs way as Jimin introduces him. âOh, this is Yoongi, he just became Jamba Juiceâs newest bitch.â
Taehyung shoots him a sympathetic look, he had worked along side Jimin a few months ago before quitting in a fit of rage so he knew how unpleasant the job was. âMy condolences.â
Yoongi just chuckles, nodding in acceptance, not attempting to deny that the job was hell on earth but it paid alright so heâd just suck it up. âJimin never shuts up about the two of you at work.â
Jungkook laughs at that as he starts to drive once more, wondering just what Jimin said about them while on the clock, they had all been friends for years so he really had an infinite amount of stories to bring up.
Whatever he had said about them must have been good enough because Yoongi fits right in, balancing out Taehyungâs crude sense of humor with his own, being made aware of some of the inside jokes they all had together and continuing them with ease.
Jungkook begins thinking that he wouldnât mind Yoongi becoming a part of their group, he had a pretty easy going personality and didnât protest when Taehyung ended up dragging all of them to some random flea market near by.
Unfortunately it all slowly starts to crumble on the drive towards the restaurant Jimin wanted to try.
âHey Jungkook, do you have a phone charger?â Jimin asks from the back seat, glaring at the dwindling percentage on his phone due to him now being in charge of the music selection because Taehyung was adamant on playing reggaeton and they were all sick of it.
Jungkook hums in confirmation, too busy staring at his own phone screen for the directions to notice that Jimin was already opening up his center console to grab the cord that he knew was always there.
The photo that greets him as he opens it up definitely isnât always there though, the shiny polaroid of you looking directly into the lens stares right at Jimin and he immediately recognizes you as the girl from the diner.
âWoah, this is dirty Kook.â He laughs out, trying his best to avert his eyes from the salacious photo and pull out the charger he was originally searching for.
âWhat?â Taehyung asks, peeking over and gasping obnoxiously when he spots the photo too. Heâs not as caring as Jimin is, grabbing the photo from the edges and bringing it up close and personal to his face for a better view.
âWho the fuck is this?â He asks as he stares at the picture with a goofy smile on his face. He tilts the polaroid side to side to look through the glare the sun provides but the raunchy act caught on film is clear as day. Jungkook carries a photo of some girl sucking his dick in his car, what a perv.
Jungkook finally looks up and when he sees the polaroid in Taehyungâs hand he feels his heart drop, reaching across and trying to snatch it but he falls short. Taehyung scoots further in his seat, holding the photo higher up and screaming when the car swerves as Jungkook lurches across his seat and tries to reach for it once more.
âItâs just some girl.â Jungkook grunts as he steadies the car again, his face burning hot as he hears Jimin laughing along in the backseat. Leave it to his friends to act like theyâve never seen more explicit photos, parading it around like itâs the first x-rated polaroid theyâve ever seen as if they didnât have a collection of ridiculous porn bookmarked onto their phones.
The way Taehyungâs currently holding the photo up gives Yoongi a clear view of it and as his eyes lock onto yours he tilts his head slightly. What was Jungkook doing with a photo of you, covered in cum with his dick in your mouth.
âIs she your girlfriend?â Jimin teases, placing his hands on his shoulders and laughing louder when Jungkook finally snatches the photo from his friends grasp, swatting the side of his head for good measure before stuffing it back into the center console and slamming it shut.
âNo, sheâs mine.â Yoongi finally speaks up, leaning back into his seat and staring at the back of Jungkookâs head as he drove. A small smile is on his face as he crosses his arms over his chest, the entire car falling into a dead silence, no one wanting to break it until they knew how serious this was.Â
Taehyung is half expecting this to become a world star beat down whereas Jimin canât tell if heâs joking or not, his eyes bouncing back and forth between Yoongi and Jungkook. He sort of wishes he had never asked for a charger now.
Jungkook canât get himself to say anything, his fingers gripping his steering wheel tighter as his mind starts to spin, desperately waiting for the joking laughter to ensue but it never comes.
Could he really be your boyfriend? Had you been with Yoongi even when you were going on dates with Namjoon or was Yoongi new. Then came the twist of the knife when he realizes that if Yoongi was new, filling in Jungkookâs shoes now that he was gone, you had seen him in a better light than youâd ever see Jungkook in, making him your boyfriend in a few weeks when Jungkookâs known you for years.
âWhy do you have a photo of Y/N giving you head?â Yoongi asks, a little caught off guard by the situation. The two of you werenât officially dating yet but considering he had met your family it felt a little unnerving to see a photo of you like that with someone that wasnât him.
Heâs not upset at Jungkook, he can see how flustered he is, but he needed some form of explanation before he filed you under cheater in his mind.
âItâs an old photo.â Jungkook can barely get out, wanting to shrivel up at the awkward tension filling up the car.
âHow old?â
âOver a month ago.â That admittedly wasnât that old and it doesnât do much to settle Yoongiâs uncertainty but he decides not to push it, the only person who needed to explain was you.
âI can toss the photo if you want me to.â Jungkook suggests, he had forgotten about the photo after he stuffed it into the center console when he left your house and although he would like to keep it, now that the cat was out of the bag and your new boy of interest had seen it, he felt a little wrong holding on to it. What were the fucking odds.
Yoongi shakes his head, it was a photo taken from your camera and you obviously knew it was being taken, if Jungkook wanted to keep it for whatever weird reason that was his call, for all he knew Jungkook was one of your exes.Â
âJust maybe donât keep it in your car man.â Yoongi suggests, his fingers itching by his side with the want to text you for an explanation but he knows he needs to play his cards right to get an actual answer from you.
Jungkook takes Yoongiâs suggestion as a demand, the second he gets back home after they finished hanging out he pockets the photo once more and decides to shove the photo deep into his underwear drawer. Hopefully itâs something heâll forget about and stumble upon in a few years and not feel the same gutted emotions he does now.
Jungkook knows heâs only hurting himself further by allowing a fragile string to continue to tie the two of you together but its the small tinge of hope that maybe one day heâd feel a tug from the string in your direction that prevents him from snipping it.
As he lays in bed he feels a similar dark shadow start to fall over him, reminiscent to the one that had nearly swallowed him whole weeks ago. The only plus side to this was that he now knew that you had moved on, something that should help him think straight, not let his memories get warped until youâre seen as this sweet angel that never did him any wrong.
The other plus side was that he didnât get his ass beat by Yoongi, the boy had swept it under the rug and went about the rest of the day as if nothing had happened. He was unaware that Yoongi was at your place now with Jungkook being the topic of discussion.
Yoongi was currently trying his best to not burn a hole in your floor as he paced back and forth on your carpet with you staring at him looking as comfortable as ever on your bed. How you looked like that when he had just interrogated you on your relationship with the other boy was beyond him.
He wasnât even sure if you were lying to him or not, your answers seemed too practiced to be truthful, too thought out for him to fully believe. The second he had brought Jungkook up it was like your brain went into autopilot and the perfect answers he was looking for just spilled out.
But somewhere along the line you said something that rubbed him the wrong way, a phrase that made him double take when you implied that Jungkook meant absolutely nothing to you, how it was all fun and games and Yoongi didnât buy that for a second. The defeated look on Jungkookâs face throughout the rest of the day showed Yoongi how he felt and it sure as hell didnât look like absolutely nothing.
Even if you and Jungkook werenât serious, the way you were speaking about him, with no sympathy or regard to how he felt it made Yoongi a little uncomfortable. Had you said that Jungkook was horrible, treated you like garbage or anything that warranted this sort of reaction he could understand but you just seemed so emotionless.
âYou donât care about him?â Theres been an evil glint in your eye ever since Yoongi mentioned Jungkook, the slight anger you felt at him treating you how you treated him resurfacing at his name. You donât even know why heâs asking you this, did he want you to say you didnât care about him to boost his own ego or did he want you to say you did to see if your feelings lied deeper?
âWhy should I?â Your tone is cold and Yoongi is a little caught off guard at how quickly youâre able to turn off the bubbly personality he had been drawn to in the beginning.
âI mean considering you let him photograph you sucking his dick Iâm not really buying this whole facade you have going on right now.â
A small laugh fills the room and Yoongi can only stare at you, briefly wondering if this was some sort of joke because the way youâre acting now is the polar opposite to the you heâs known for the past month. You just found the situation laughable, you always covered your tracks, careful enough to not trip over your own lies but your edge must be wearing off.
âThereâs no facade.â You reply calmly, hoping the soft look in your eyes is convincing enough for him but itâs not. Yoongi knows he must be on to something, the minute he brought Jungkook up he saw the way your demeanor changed and now he wasnât sure if you were just down right heartless or playing it off.
âYou honestly donât have any empathy for other people do you?â He shoots out, looking directly at you and seeing the way your eyes lose their sweetness, narrowing in size as you try your best not to glare at him but he can see right through it. He can tell heâs digging a little too close to uncharted territory but he was sick of the mystery that was you, never knowing where anything stood because you were too selfish to think of other peopleâs emotions due to your actions.
âIs that really what youâre focused on.â
âYeah, a little.â He scoffs in disbelief, âI donât really want to find out my girlfriendâs a fucking sociopath years down the line.â
You laugh again at that, leaning back on your arms as you sit on your bed, âGirlfriend?â The look you give him makes him stumble over his words for the first time, realizing that you hadnât ever put a label on what you were and now feeling a little embarrassed by your condescending tone.
You honestly donât even know why you react the way you do, you actually liked Yoongi, could see this becoming something serious, but the way he was exposing your faults, making you see the parts of you that desperately needed work, it rubbed you the wrong way so you needed to knock him down a few pegs. A classic self sabotaging move you always did, not being able to bite down the hurtful words you knew youâd throw his way.
âYou think Iâm your girlfriend?â You ask, only rubbing salt onto the slowly opening wound and he almost winces but he can see that this is your defense mechanism so he doesnât let it burn as much as he knows it should.
âIs that what youâre gonna turn this into?â He counters, a displeased look on his face, âTrying to hurt my feelings because Iâm asking you pretty justified questions is a low blow Y/N.â
That shuts you up, the next batch of spiteful words you were ready to shoot his way dissolving on your tongue when you see the way he looks at you. Youâd expect him to be angry, visibly upset at what you had said but instead he just looks tired.
âLook, I obviously struck a nerve bringing him up because thisââ he motions to you, making you realize how tense your body had become, âisnât the you I know, so whenever you decide to put your fangs away and talk about your buried emotions let me know.â
You donât even know how to respond to the way he shut you down with ease, your eyes only showing more of your confusion when he steps forward and kisses the top of your head, âGoodnight.â Is all he says before turning around to leave your room and apartment altogether.
âGoodnight.â You weakly mumble out as he shuts the door behind him, completely throwing you off the course of events you were sure were about to transpire.
The anger you felt inside slowly starts to fizzle out until all you feel is sick, a pit of disgust brewing inside of you at the way you had behaved. Not just with him but with Jungkook.
This had become a regular feeling for you ever since Jungkook decided to throw you aside, being the main reason you had decided to hold on to Yoongi when you had met him by chance, needing something to distract you so the guilt you felt wouldnât drive you into doing something you knew youâd regret.
The amount of times you wanted to reach out to him during these last few weeks was concerning for you, never really realizing just how much you relied on him when you needed to get out of your head. The slow clarity that he had always been quick to come to you and offer help in any way he could while you always shut him down, diverting questions when heâd ask what was wrong because you were scared of him getting too close, all it had done was burn him.
You had left him scarred and wounded as he laid on his bed, contemplating smothering himself with his pillow as he regretted his life choices that landed him in this situation. Itâs the selfish side of you that has you opening up your phone and calling his number without a second thought, you keep it on speaker and toss it on the bed, half expecting it to go directly to voicemail since you were sure he had blocked your number too, but it continues to ring.
Jungkook nearly bolts up in shock when the phone by his head starts to vibrate and light up, his squinting eyes staring at the screen and freezing when he sees your name displayed on it. He feels like he stops breathing as his phone buzzes on his comforter, it was now clear that Yoongi had in fact brought him up to you and he was pretty sure if he answered the phone it would not go in his favor.
He lets it ring until it eventually goes to voicemail, his phone dimming down once more and he finally relaxes. It only lasts a brief moment, his phone buzzing once more with a text this time and he doesnât want to open it.
Instead he grabs the device and stuffs it in between his mattress and box spring, shutting his eyes and taking a deep breath before sliding back into bed and forcing himself to sleep.
It doesnât come easy for either of you, heâs constantly tossing and turning on his bed, having to shove his hands under his butt to get them to stop creeping toward the side his phone was tucked under. You on the other hand are constantly checking your phone when you wake up every few minutes, phantom rings pulling you from your slumber and hoping Jungkook responded to your text but every time you blindly stare at the brightness of your screen youâre met with nothing, not even the read display that usually appeared.
Itâs not until the sun peaks over the horizon, the soft orange illuminating the inside of Jungkookâs room and waking him up, that he feels his resolve cracking. He tries to blame it on his half asleep state, not being awake enough to know right from wrong but heâs way too aware of the way his fingers move and latch on to his device as he pulls it from its hiding spot.
It takes him a moment to build up the courage to open up your message, half expecting a massive paragraph with you telling him off for whatever reason but the only thing that greets him is a short âcan we talk pleaseâ.
Heâs not sure what makes him wary, the fact that you want to talk or you using the word please. Jungkookâs fingers hover over the keyboard, not sure if he should even respond to you. This was what he wanted though isnât it? The main reason he had decided not to block your number, hoping youâd reach out and explain yourself. But now that you had done the first half he wasnât sure he wanted to see it through.
Still, his fingers take over and type out a quick response.
jungkook 7:49am : talk about what
The buzzing wakes you up instantly, your phone clutched to your chest in the same position you had fallen asleep in with the hope that heâd respond.
Itâs a little surprising to see that he doesnât immediately agree like he normally does, dropping whatever he was doing to come to your place like he used to but you guess it was called for.
y/n 7:50am : i just want to clear the air
y/n 7:50am : do you wanna have breakfast?
He hates that he feels the tiniest spark of excitement inside of him at you asking him out for breakfast, something he had been wanting forever, but his fingers shake too much as he holds the device, his body reminding him of the withdraws he had already gone through once before. He couldnât do this again.
jungkook 7:54am : i donât think thats a good idea
You can only stare at your screen, not knowing how to respond to his message. It was your own selfish desire to fix things, to help ease the guilt off your chest, that made you want to persuade him to do what you asked but when your phone vibrates a second time you know his mind is set and itâs best to leave it alone.
jungkook 7:57am : please donât message me again, itâs better this way.
You once again feel the familiar twist in your chest, more so when you respond with a simple okay and your bubble turns green before a notification pops up stating the message could no longer be delivered. Jungkook had been the one to weld the chest shut this time, blocking your number to finalize it before locking his phone once more and begging himself to go about his day as if the curiosity of what you wanted to tell him wasnât eating him alive.
âJungkook you need oyster sauce and soy sauce, theyâre not interchangeable!â Jimin scolds when Jungkook places the oyster sauce back onto the self, his hand once again swiping it off and placing it into the basket he was currently holding.
âDamn sorry, I told you I donât know what Iâm doing.â Jungkook groans, giving his friend a pout that goes ignored because heâs too focused on running through the list he had on his phone to ensure nothing was forgotten.
Jimin was in charge of helping Jungkook out today on his date, it was Valentines day and Jungkook had been dating his girlfriend for a few months now and wanted to make this date a little more special than just eating out. However, he wasnât blessed with culinary skills so Jimin would be helping him out throughout it all and making a swift exit before his girlfriend would arrive for dinner.
Jungkook wanders off when he notices Jimin is still hyper focused on the array of sauces lined up in this aisle, ending up in the makeshift Valentines day aisle set up, the plush toys in pink and red all holding candies with cute sayings sewn on to the heart on their chests. It seemed too easy to just pick one up and settle with that so he gives himself a mission to do while Jimin finishes up the essentials.
He roams the entire store, grabbing a lavender wired bucket with enough of his girlfriendâs favorite candies to fill the bottom of it, along with that comes an elephant plushie that happened to be her favorite animal. Jungkook had spotted a bouquet of sunflowers by the front of the store so he makes his way in that direction once more, passing by Jimin who was looking for him but continuing on in his trek.
Just as he grabs the bouquet he wanted he hears his name being called and for a moment he thinks he imagined it, not being able to place the voice it belonged to but when it repeats itself much closer he turns around.
Jungkook is even more caught off guard when he spots your brother, looking nothing like the shy and awkward 13 year old he was back then. He hadnât seen him since he stopped tutoring him nearly four years ago but he recognized the eyes that he shared with you.
âJihoon?â He questions, smiling when the younger boy nods. He had always looked up to Jungkook, practically idolized him when he was tutoring him, wanting to be him in every aspect. Jungkook had been everything a nerdy 13 year old boy would want to be, adopting a similar clothing style to him that had managed to still stick around with age.
âI saw you and just had to come say hey.â Jihoon says, pulling him in for a typical bro hug.
Jimin huffs as he reaches Jungkook, having chased him down the aisles and finally catching up to him. He gives the younger boy a wave, a little confused as to who he is but when he hears your voice and spots you, it all clicks in his mind.
âJihoon câmon, we need to grab what dad wants!â You shout from the end of the aisle, not wanting to approach Jungkook to save yourself the embarrassment. You were still completely blocked off of everything, no form of communication happening between the two of you since that night. The town you lived in was small so it was kind of inevitable that youâd run in to him eventually but having it be today of all days, with him holding up Valentineâs day items just made it all a little more sour.
He looks up at the sound of your voice and gives you a faint smile because thats just who he is, it doesnât pain him to look at you now though, the small void you had left inside of him nearly patched all the way up with time and distance.
âI know, but look who it is.â Your brother announces, completely unaware that you and Jungkook had very much stayed in contact after he finished tutoring him. You knew who it was, you were very familiar with Jungkookâs face and could probably spot the back of his head in a crowd.
âHi Jungkook.â You muster out, slowly making your way down the aisle towards them because you knew your brother wouldnât back off unless you came over and greeted his old tutor.
âHow are things with Yoongi?â Jimin speaks up, a knife slicing through the tension and a knowing look on his face as he stares you down. He knew that you and Yoongi were no longer together, having to be the ear Yoongi vented to with all of your problems while at work and while hanging out, knowing that Yoongi had tried his best to make it work but you had been too stubborn, too stuck in your ways to even budge. Jimin knew enough about you now to be able to connect the dots to the way Jungkook had been so torn months prior. You were a bitch and he didnât like you.
âOh, we broke up.â You utter out, an odd look on your face because you had no idea who Jimin was or how he knew both Yoongi and Jungkook but you figure thats irrelevant now, staring back at Jungkook and seeing a neutral expression on his face.
Jihoon, not being able to read the room, asks Jungkook if hes buying groceries for a Valentines date tonight and Jungkook shyly confirms it, teasingly asking Jihoon if he had a date tonight as well. âNah, havenât hooked anyone onto me yet. Y/N and I are just helping our dad make something for our mom tonight.â
âYeah speaking of that, we need to get going Jihoon.â You hope your brother can sense your tone, your fingers tempted to grab onto his hair and yank him away, needing him to move along and let you get as far from Jungkook as possible. That sinking feeling in your stomach had returned, only worsening when you realized how good he was doing, how unaffected he was at seeing you.
âRight, anyways, have a nice night with your girlfriend.â He sings with a playful wave as he retreats from the aisle to go back to shopping. You linger a little at the end of the aisle and stare at him for a moment longer, a small wave being sent his way that he reciprocates with a smile.
âIsnât she polaroid girl?â Jimin grunts out as he readjusts the basket he was holding, already knowing the answer.
âYeah.â Jungkook mumbles out, continuing to stare at the end of the aisle where you had disappeared, the polaroid being a distant memory in his mind after he had burned it.
âBabe,â Jungkook laughs into the receiver of his phone, resting against the cool exterior of the bar all of his friends were in, âI promise there wont be a repeat of last time.â
âThat laugh means trouble Jungkook,â Sooyoung giggles back, already mentally preparing to baby Jungkook back to health when he undoubtably arrives home absolutely hammered, âIf I have to hold your hand while you barf up everything and refuse water again Iâm filing for divorce!â
Jungkook gasps dramatically, his hand placed over his heart as he hears the way his wife snickers, âLess than a month after and youâre already calling it quits?â
Sooyoung just hums along, sat on the couch of their house and flicking through the channels to find something to watch while their dog laid snuggled up by her feet, âThats just how to cookie crumbles, unless,â she pauses, mentally picturing the way Jungkook raises his eyebrows as he waits, âyou hold my hand while I barf next week when I go out with the girls.â
âYou run a tough bargain, but Iâll even hold your hair back hows that?â
âSounds perfect, be safe Kookie. I love you.â She smiles as the words leave her mouth, the fluttering affect he had on her never fading even after all this time.
âAlways, I love you too.â He blushes as he makes a kissy noise, smiling wide when he hears one back before ending the call and and makes his way back inside, instantly spotting his friends gathered around the booth they had managed to snag.
When he makes his way over to them he slides in beside Taehyung, squishing him and Hobi into the booth and hearing them groan in protest.
âAre you done confessing your profound love for Sooyoung?â Jimin teases before throwing back a shot of vodka, he was already very loosened up, this being the second bar they visited due to celebrating Jiminâs wedding in a week.
âShut up, as if I didnât catch you literally on the verge of tears in the bathroom as you talked to Daehyun earlier.â Jungkook smiles when Jimin zips his mouth and locks it with an imaginary key, not denying any but of information Jungkook just spilled out. The rest of his friends howl in laughter at the secret, riling him up further and Jungkook decides his job here is done, getting up to order another drink and another round of shots for everyone else.
He leans over the counter and grabs the bar tenders attention with a soft wave of his hand, âCan I get a whiskey sour and another round of shots of tequila.â The woman nods, already having his card on a tab and begins making the drinks for him.
Jungkook settles into one of the stools there, getting comfortable as he waits, not yet sensing the eyes currently staring a hole through his temple from a few seats away.
You had spotted Jungkook walking in with his friends earlier, watching him step out for a phone call before coming back in again. He looked a little different from the last time you saw him, his hair a little longer now with a slight wave to it as it reached his cheekbones. The last time you had seen him was in passing at the same grocery store a few months ago, you had managed to duck into an aisle before he spotted you, being none the wiser that you were hiding from him.
Jungkook starts to feel the burning from his side of someone staring, slowly turning his head until his eyes meet your stunned ones. You expect him to look away, pretend he doesnât know you and try to hide like you always do but instead he smiles at you, waving you over like you were an old friend of his.
It takes a few moments of building up courage before you get up from your spot and move across the three stools that separated you two with your drink in your hand.
âHey, how have you been?â He asks with a soft grin, thanking the bar tender as she places his drink and the line of shots in front of him.
âIâve been alright, Jihoon just moved out of state for work so my parents have been extra needy without someone to baby.â You force a smile back at him, your finger tracing the rim of your glass as you beg the awkwardness to leave, not used to having the underhand in situations like this.
âHeâs gonna do great things Iâm sure.â Jungkook sighs, taking a sip of his drink and humming at the taste. Looking at him now was like looking at an entirely different person, sure he had the same face but the way he carried himself was a stark contrast to the Jungkook you were accustomed to from three years ago, no longer second guessing himself, instead speaking with an aura of confidence and ease surrounding him.
âYou know he never shut up about you once you stopped tutoring him?â You laugh, seeing the smile spreading on Jungkookâs face, âI remember that one time he begged my parents to buy him that one yellow jacket you own, he had to get straight Aâs all semester before they got it for him and he never took it off.â
A genuine smile spreads across your lips as you reminisce on the times before, how you had taken them for granted and now seemed to grasp at anything that reminded you of it.
âWe had something good going before, Iâm sorry for ruining it.â
That catches Jungkook off guard, setting his drink down with a soft thud as he looks over at you fully, âI guess that depends what you consider good.â He jokes, proud that he can make light of a situation that used to leave him feeling wounded.
âYouâre right, Iâm sorry.â You cringe, not yet having the luxury of the past not affecting you. He watches on as you take a big gulp of your drink, wiping the excess that drips down your lip with your fingers.
âDonât be, itâs water under the bridge.â He reassures you, reaching across the small gap between you two and placing his hand over yours when he notices the small trembles of nerves making them shake.
Your hand turns in his grasp, your fingers wrapping around his large ones in a search for comfort. The intentions you originally had when you first spot him leave you as your thumb traces the black band around his ring finger, a clear sign that he was off the market for good, making the words spoil in your mouth as you hold them back.
âOh, when did this happen?â You ask softly, letting his hand go as he brings it up to spread his fingers out with a proud look on his face.
âAbout a month ago, I managed to trick someone into marrying me.â He jokes, a glimmer in his eyes as he recalls the day of his wedding, the happiness swelling his heart when he thinks of coming home to Sooyoung after the night is over.
âYou never needed to trick someone into marrying you Kookie.â The sound of his nickname doesnât feel right coming out of your mouth now, like nails to a chalkboard, no longer making his stomach flutter the way it used to.
âIt felt like I did.â He admits with a shrug, remembering the years of him pining over you, making a fool of himself for the off chance thatâd you one day see him for what he was worth. But like he said, it was all water under the bridge and seeing you here was a welcomed surprise to him now.
You want to say more to him but your tongue gets tied up, no longer having the list of phrases you were going to use when you spotted him. Jungkook catches on to the discomfort growing within you so he downs the rest of his drink to free his hands to be able to carry the shots to his thirsty friends.
âIt was good seeing you.â His eyes are sincere as he stares at you for the last time, âIâll see you around.â You know thats the truth, no doubt would you two run in to each other once more but you know this will be the closest interaction youâll have. He still had you blocked on everything even years later, not knowing a single piece of information on you and leaving you in the dark about his. But this was just the way things were meant to be.
âYeah, good seeing you too Jungkook.â You whisper out, watching him as he grasps the shot glasses and makes his way back to his friends, hollers and cheers filling up the bar at the sight of alcohol.
Jungkook slips back into his seat, passing the glasses around to everyone and raising them up to cheer for the end Jimin as an unmarried man. As he throws back the shot, nearly having it come out through his nose when he laughs as he sees the disgusted look Taehyung makes at the taste, he canât stop himself from looking back in your direction.
Youâre still sat on the stool, finishing up the rest of your drink and signing off your tab with a grin on your face. He eyes you curiously when you put your card away, your fingers sorting through your bag before pulling out a shiny diamond ring and slipping it back onto your ring finger.
He canât help but feel a little disappointed at his realization, having almost fallen into the same web of lies you had intricately set up for him. Staring at him and knowing heâd catch you in the act, hoping to rope him in to bed one last time but the black band on his finger had been what broke the spell, making that same pit of disgust brew inside you and fill you with guilt at what you almost did.
As you walk out, eyes landing on Jungkookâs and noticing that he had spotted your own wedding band you give him that same shamless smile he had burned into his memory before slipping out of the bar altogether, returning home to your husband who would be none the wiser.
Jungkook just shakes his head as he reaches for another shot in the center of the table and throws it back, joining in with the laughter of his friends. Taehyung jostles him around as he recalls a story from the last time they were here but Jungkookâs mind is still focused on you.
Old habits died hard and it seemed like you never had any intention of changing. You may have left him shredded in a thousand parts but he took pride in being able to say that he put himself back together on his own, and when his phone lights up with a goofy selfie of his wife and their dog he realizes he had dodged a bullet, no longer hating the string of events that lead him to where he was now.

Notes:
A warning ahead of time. Iâve got 3 parts to this already written and I fully intend on posting them today, if possible. Also, things are starting to heat up just a little here pretty soon, so thereâs that.
I realize that nobody asked for more of this ( iâm saying that because after chapter 1 I donât think anybody kept reading lmaooo), however.. Iâm having a blast writing it, so whether anyone asked or not, youâre getting it, lmaooo.
Also, new header thing for this because I can.
Warnings:
non canon compliant - this is the biggest warning, so if youâre into things that follow exact canon plot you are... definitely not going to like this. angst & slow burn, heavy sexual tension starting in the next part - this is just so everyone who started reading this thinking the smut would transpire in a hurry knows that apparently, it is not. violence / swearing & fighting, possible underage drinking and other shenanigans - look.. itâs high school. shit happens. also apparently, my ofc Alyssa uses the word fuck like all the time?... eventual sexual content - this one is self explanatory. yes, i plan to write a smutty chapter in this at some point. when? i donât rightly know. itâs got a while before we get there.
Pairing:
Andrews!Sibling OFC, Alyssa x Sweet Pea
Other Parts:
[ one - two - three - four - soundtrack ]Â
Other Stuff:
[ faq - tag list doc ]Â
Tagging:
@brithedemonspawnâ is the only person on my Riverdale tag list. If youâd like to be tagged for this story by all means.. Please let me know. Itâd make me super duper happy!!!
                        F I V E.
My door was being pounded on. I rolled over, pouting at it. Honestly, the last thing I was prepared to do was go to school and face everything. My dad had told me the night before that I could miss one day.
âIâm sleeping.â I barely called out.
My bedroom door creaked open slowly.
âHow long are you going to hide out in here?â Toni asked the question from my doorway, a hand on her hip as she stared me down and tapped her foot.
I sat up, looking at Toni. Shrugging.
âI donât want to see him. Iâm so angry I just want to choke him.â
âSo, get up, get dressed and letâs go choke him.â
I eyed her, laughing. Managing a weak smile. Shrugging. âItâs not worth it. I mean⌠I shouldâve known he had some kind of ulterior motive to begin with.â
Toniâs brow raised and she shook her head. âMeaning?â she questioned, an expectant gaze fixed on me.
My dad called up the stairs, âShe alive up there?â
Toni answered, âShe is.â
Cheryl came jogging up the stairs, flopping onto the other side of the bed.
Holding the one eyed stuffed rabbit that Iâd given her in kindergarten because she was upset when her mom and dad couldnât be bothered to show up for a play we were in.
âI come bringing gifts. Whiskers.â she presented the rabbit to me and I took it, hugging it against me for a few seconds. Holding it back out to her. âHe was supposed to protect you, Blossom. You keep him.â
âYouâre the one whoâs hurting right now.â Cheryl insisted.
âIâm not hurting, I just⌠I donât know.â
âYouâre upset. And itâs okay, even if I swear to my dying day that Reggie Mantle is not worth it.â Toni coaxed.
I nodded.
âSo are you coming with us or are we going to have to drag you out of bed, hm? You know Iâll do it.â Cheryl teased, giving me a soft smile. âYouâre tougher than this, okay? Iâve seen your snapchat stories from Chicago.â
âWait.. Whatâs that mean, hm? What am I missing?â Toni eyed Cheryl, awaiting explanation.Â
âFor the record, Cheryl, it was only four fights.â I glanced at Cheryl, going quiet and shrugging. I wouldnât have ever gotten into any of those fights if I hadnât had a damn good reason. Okay, so maybe one of them I would have because my temper got the best of me.. But the other three? Wouldnât have happened.
âFour fights that you won, Al.â Cheryl smirked.
âYouâve gotten in a fight? Since when?â Toni eyed me, shocked.
âThatâs one of the big reasons Iâm living with my dad now. One of many...â I admitted, trailing off and going quiet while shaking my head and laughing. âWhat? Did you really think I was some actual good girl?â I teased, poking out my tongue at her.
Stifling a yawn as I stretched. Trying to burrow down between the two of them.
âGirl if you donât get out of this bed, Iâm going to open your window and yell for Fangs to come in to crush you.â Toni laughed.Â
She and Cheryl shared a look and the next thing I knew, they were getting up.. Going to the bottom of my bed. Raising my black bandana stars and moon print comforter. When they started to tickle my feet, I caved pretty quick.
âOkay, alright, fine.â
Toni was already digging through my closet, Cheryl grimacing at the astounding amount of black shirts and band merch. Ripped jeans. Toni turned to look at me. âGirl.â
âYes?â I was pulling myself out of bed now, stretching. Giving myself a once over in the mirror on my vanity and cringing. âYikes. I look like death.â
â So you mean to tell me you have all this stuff and youâve been wearing all that other stuff?â Toni asked, gazing at me as she held up a cropped Metallica shirt.Â
I nodded, shrugging. âI.. wanted to try actually not giving my father a thousand heart attacks since thatâs apparently Archieâs thing.âÂ
Toni nodded, laughing. âI always felt like you werenât really you.. The whole cardigans and sundresses thing. I mean, it fits you but it doesnât. Not like this stuff, at least.â
She tossed a pair of black jeans at me, and one of my shirts. And then Cheryl eyed the box sitting on my window seat. âWhatâs this?â
âPretty much anything Reggie gave me or every note he ever wrote. I was going to throw it all out or burn it later⌠Probably burn it because of the fact that I get to play with fire.â I sighed, grabbing the jeans and the shirt.Â
âHey, Toni? Do you see a red and black plaid shirt? Itâll be towards the back. Itâs really old looking. Can you hand it to me?â I asked as I grabbed for my favorite pair of boots, slipping my feet into them.Â
Toni found my dadâs old shirt and eyed it. Held it up to her nose, smelling it. âWhyâs this smell like old guy cologne?â
âProbably because itâs my dadâs old shirt?â I gave her a laugh. She laughed and smiled. âYouâre such a daddyâs girl, Andrews.â
I shrugged and smiled. âAt least heâs dependable.â
âHey, thereâs toast if you three want any.â my dad spoke up from the doorway, glancing at the three of us.
âYeah.â
âAwesome.â
âThank you.âÂ
After weâd eaten some toast and scrambled eggs, I grabbed my bookbag and just as I started out the door, my dad stopped me. âIâm glad youâre listening to what we talked about. Being yourself?â
âMe too.â I smiled, stopping to give him a hug. âHey.. I donât have practice after school. Is it okay if I come and hang out at the site? Maybe I can even help a littleâŚâÂ
My dad mulled it over. Smiling. âYeah.â
I pushed out the front door just in time to see Fangs wandering our way. He chuckled, nodding to me. âI see you guys did actually get her out of bed.â
âWe did say we were going in there with one goal in mind, Fangs.â Toni snickered. I tensed a little when I noticed Sweet Pea lingering up ahead, leaned against the streetlight, his arms folded over his chest.
For some reason, the fact that he probably knew everything that happened just.. Bothered me. Way more than it shouldâve.
I stopped. My gaze torn between the path to school and my fatherâs house, getting further behind me with each step. Suddenly not too sure I wanted to or I even could face the fact that if Reggie and Chuck made the bet then everyone I once thought of as a friend probably knew already.
And spent the entire time I was bending over backwards just to make myself fit in laughing behind my back.
The anger kicked up in me and I took a deep breath.
âOh come on! The best way to handle this is to show him you donât care and it doesnât bother you, Al.â Cheryl coaxed. Toni nodded in agreement.
I took a few shaky breaths and started to walk to catch up with them again. Letting the anger brew instead of just pushing it back down like I seemed to be getting good at doing to a lot of things lately.
If I was going to face Reggie and all our friends, I was going to need that anger. I was going to need one hell of a shiny spine. Because being passive and letting it go just isnât who I am. And maybe my dadâs right. Maybe itâs time I started being more me.. Without all the crazy and wild stunts I pulled back in Chicago.
âAre we meeting to have our little goodbye fire after school?â Cheryl asked. I bit my lip, mulling it over. Finally nodding, as much as it hurt. The sooner I get this out of my system, the better Iâll feel, hopefully. âYeah. Iâll get the box and we can do it in a trash barrel at the construction site.â
I almost had to laugh at the irony. Not even a week ago, Iâd been contemplating breaking up with Reggie because I couldnât take the fighting or the tension anymore. The only thing that stopped me? Not wanting to hurt him. Because I knew what he was going through at home. Because I could see the teeniest sliver of a good and sweet guy buried deep down beneath all the cocky swagger.
And today, we were over and heâd been the one to hurt me. Heâd been playing the long con the entire time.
The sound of a car revving on the road next to the sidewalk we were all walking on had me glancing over. Grumbling when my eyes settled on Reggieâs black Charger.
âWhat the fuck does he want?â Sweet Pea snarled to himself.
âA fight, if weâre fuckin lucky, man.â Fangs chuckled, opening and closing his fists.
Reggie rolled down the passenger window. Called out to me.
I pretended not to hear him, turning my attention to talking to Cheryl and Toni instead.
âI know you hear me, princess.. Câmon. Please? At least give me a chance to explain?â
He kept at this for almost a minute until I finally got annoyed. I finally just couldnât deal with him lingering. Trying to push me into talking things out. What was there to talk about?
Heâd had a bet going about getting into my panties.
âExplain what, exactly?â I eyed him, a hand on my hip.
Reggie bit his lip and his eyes roamed over me. He sighed quietly, nodding to the passenger seat.Â
I shook my head no. âWhich part do you need to explain, Reggie? The part that you made a bet on taking my virginity or the fact that youâre an actual fucking pig? I canât believe I fell for your shit.â
From beside me, I felt Sweet Pea tense a little. Fangs grumbled and shook his head, muttered under his breath, â I always knew he was a fucking douche.â
âI deserved that.â Reggie muttered. Pleading with me again to at least let him explain.
âYou deserve a kick in the balls.â I retorted, starting to walk a little faster. âDonât you have a bimbo to fall back on?â I asked when I realized he wasnât pulling away and driving off. âStop trying. Itâs not like you tried that hard before I found out what you were really about.â
He eyed me, his mouth opening and closing.
âWhatâs that mean, huh?â
â If you canât figure it out, itâs not on me to explain it.â I rolled my eyes. Tapping my boot against the sidewalk impatiently.Â
âIâm gonna prove you wrong, princess.â Reggie bit his lip, gazing at me. âIâm gonna prove just how wrong you are and how much I care.â
âYou can start by leaving, meatball.â I rolled my eyes, waving a hand dismissively as I hurried to catch up with the rest of my friends. Reggie drove off and I watched his tail lights fading. Taking a few shaky breaths because it felt like Iâd just ripped a bandaid off an open wound.
âThat went well.â Toni muttered, eyeing me. âYou okay?â
âIâm fine.â I muttered.
We were standing at the edge of the parking lot in front of Riverdale High by now. I gazed at the building. For a few seconds, I thought about bolting. Instead, I took a few long and deep breaths. Walking into the halls with Toni and Cheryl. Holding my head up. Ignoring the stares and the few whispers.
Cheryl leaned in to mutter against my ear, âIgnore them.â
I nodded, even though every single part of me was now wishing I hadnât chosen to come today.
When I got to my locker, I found a single red rose taped to it. I tore it off. Grumbling to myself as I found a trash bin and threw the flower inside, giving Reggie a pointed glare as I walked right past him.
Chuck elbowed him and said it loudly enough that I could hear, âYou can do better, Mantle. Find yourself a girl who cares enough to put out.â
I rolled my eyes. Spinning around before Toni or Cheryl even realized that I wasnât walking with them anymore. Backtracking down the hall and stopping in front of Chuck.
Gazing up at him as I retorted, âOh?â
Chuck eyed me, snickering. âSomebodyâs feisty this morning.â
âCorrect me if Iâm wrong here, but didnât you like⌠lie about half the girls you claim slept with you? I mean hey.. I canât help it, some of us have actual standards, dude. Wasnât there a whole ass scene between you and pretty much every single girl in Riverdale High? In this same hallway? Might want to keep your mouth shut, Chucky.â
His fists clenched.Â
I snickered quietly. âAnyway, thatâs not what I came over for. It just occurred to me, Chuck.. I never bothered to ask how much my virginity is worth to an ignorant swine like you. How much was the bet, hm?â
Chuck raised a brow. Reggie tensed. Trying to butt in, trying to tell me to let it go and plead with me to just talk to him later when Iâd cooled down.
But I was past it.Â
Chuck smirked. âYou, princess? Twenty bucks. Now.. if you were actually hot like say⌠Betty Cooper or Veronica Lodge, even Cheryl over there or her pretty little friend.. Itâd have been a hundred bucks easy.â he folded his arms over his chest. Waiting on his words to hit some kind of mark.
Thinking that I gave a shit. Or that I wasnât already well aware that I wasnât supermodel hot like most of the other girls and totally fine with it.
âIf youâre waiting on me to be hurt, itâs not gonna happen. But here. Hereâs your fucking money, you prick.â I dug around in the pocket of my jeans, finding a twenty dollar bill. Tossing it at him. Nodding at where it settled on the floor.
âPick it up.â I repeated firmly.
âHow about you do it for me, princess?â Chuck smirked, gazing at me intently. Nodding towards the fallen twenty.Â
I shook my head. Stepped closer. âGo on.. Pick it up. Unless youâre afraid...âÂ
Reggie cleared his throat. âPrincess.. You donât have to do this. None of this matters...â he tried to reason with me. Tried to get me to calm down.I whirled around to face him. â My name is Alyssa. You donât get to call me princess or baby girl or anything like that anymore. Are we clear, meatball?â
Chuck cackled at that. I turned to face him, nodding to the money. Bending to pick it up. âGuess you donât want to get paid.â I shrugged. He reached for the twenty and I drew it back out of his grasp, clucking my tongue.
I held it up, as best as I could to keep it out of his reach. When he went for it, I threw it on the floor again and spat in his direction. âNext time you decide to bet on somebodyâs virginity, asshole, just remember how many girls shot you down. Remember that youâre actually not hot shit.â
I shoved through the crowd, walking back over to my locker. Throwing it open. Ignoring the shocked looks on my friends faces as I calmly switched out my books for the morning classes.

He couldnât stop replaying the whole thing in his head. Smirking about it a little in pride because he honestly hadnât ever thought she had all that in her. He found himself stealing glances at her while she had her nose buried in the textbook, reading and not paying anything going on around her any sort of attention.
From behind them, Reggie was hissing her name. Sweet Pea rolled his eyes, annoyed because the guy had basically gone this entire time without a backwards glance at her while paired with Mandy, and now, suddenly, he couldnât leave her alone.
The jealousy that surged had Sweet Pea clenching his fist. Shoving it in his jacket.
When Reggie tried to pass a note to her and it settled on his desk instead, he turned and smirked. Speaking up so the teacher caught onto what was going on.
âIâm flattered, Mantle. Really I am. But youâre kind of not my type, man.â Sweet Pea smirked as Reggie practically growled at him and shook his head. The teacher hadnât caught on yet. Reggie kept nodding to Alyssa and Sweet Pea chuckled to himself again. The urge to embarrass the guy was just too strong to pass up.
âOh? You want me to pass this note to Alyssa?â Sweet Pea barely hid the smirk when he said it loudly enough that he knew their teacher had to hear him, plain as day.
The teacher glanced their direction, stalking across the room to snatch the paper out of Sweet Peaâs hands. Unfolding it as he started to read it to the entire class.
Alyssa grumbled under her breath, whirling around in her seat.
âPig.â she called out before turning to face the front again. Sinking down in her seat just slightly. Shaking her head as she muttered to herself quietly, âWhere was this energy when we were actually dating, I ask?â
They reached for the textbook open between them at the same time and Alyssa glanced over at him, biting her lip. No matter how much he tried, Sweet Pea couldnât drop his gaze. His eyes were locked on hers. He repositioned the book so that they could both see it clearly. And maybe just so sheâd have to lean in slightly in the process.
âWhatâd you say to Chuck in the hall?â He whispered after a few seconds.
âI threw his fucking money at him. And reminded him that most of the girls he supposedly got with actually didnât and wouldnât touch him with a ten foot pole. I was hoping heâd bend down and get his money though because I was totally about to knee him in the face.â
âNah. I donât see you doing that.â Sweet Pea chuckled, shaking his head at her and locking eyes all over again.
Alyssa eyed him, an amused look on her face as she shrugged. âWhatever you say, Sweet Pea.â before going back to reading their assigned part of the text.
Sweet Pea found himself staring at her. Probably much more than he should have if he were being honest about it.Â
She leaned in to turn the page and he coughed abruptly. The cotton candy scent of her favorite body spray wafting up. Making him bite his lip over the knee jerk reaction he was having to the way she was slightly leaned against him. She must have caught on to him staring at her because she glanced up, licking at her lips. Muttering an apology in haste and moving away a little.
He leaned into her and muttered into her ear, âItâs not that big a deal, cherry.â
She nodded, but she didnât look up at him or anything.
When it happened at least two more times during the class, he wound up having to shift around in his seat a little. Trying to appear neutral when every little accidental brush of her side against his was overloading him a little more each time.

âOkay, I got matches.â Toni or Cheryl called up the stairs from the living room.
âI have the lighter and the box.â I answered, jogging down the stairs to meet them. We stepped out of the house and I locked the door behind me. Stopping by the fern to make sure the spare key was still hidden inside the pot just in case Archie didnât have his key.
We set out for the construction site but Toni remembered that she had to stop by her grandfatherâs place to grab something.
The crowd gathered outside was angry. Panicked. Toni shoved her way through the crowd her neighbors made, up and onto her porch. Coming back with a bright orange piece of paper that had been stuck to her front door.
I happened to spot Sweet Pea as he stood on the porch three trailers away. His jaw set firm.
Cheryl snatched the note from Toni and as soon as she realized it was an eviction notice, she was hugging Toni.
âI canât fucking believe this. They canât just throw out everyone.â
I swallowed hard. Locking eyes with Sweet Pea from across the lot. Every part of me wanted to walk over to him. But I didnât dare.
He tolerated me at best.
I could just see this only driving his defenses up even more. Fangs wandered over, a similar note in his own hands. Swearing and angry.
âThereâs absolutely no way, this is bullshit.â
âThey can and they did, Cherry.â Fangs grumbled. Cheryl and I shared a look because neither one of us really knew what to do or say in this case.
âYeah, I donât think so. Iâm gonna skype my mom tonight and ask if this is legal at all.â I took Fangâs notice and took a screenshot of it. He shook his head. Muttered calmly and quietly, âNo use in bothering with it, Cherry. We all know how this is gonna play out.â
âIt doesnât have to, though.â I answered, shaking my head. Cheryl did the same. Hugging Toni as she tried to console her. Offering to let her stay at her place.
Sweet Pea punched at the post on his porch and jumped over the rail, wandering over to where Toni and Fangs stood with Cheryl and I.
âYou see this shit?â
âYeah.â Toni answered in a flat tone.
Fangs just nodded. Pacing. Angry.
âThis canât be legal.â I muttered.
Sweet Pea gazed down at me. A sneer forming. âI hate to break it to you, Cherry. This is real life. And thereâs nothing any of us can do about it, either.â
I tensed at his tone. I get where his anger was coming from, but the fact that it was directed at me right now was both hurtful and kind of irritating.
âWhat? You think I live in a fucking ivory tower?â I snapped before I could stop myself, storming off.
Cheryl caught up to me halfway down the block.
âThere has to be something we can do. Anything.â Cheryl spoke up as we shared a look.
âIâm calling my mother. If anyone can stop this bullshit, itâs her.â
âI can try to buy it back.â Cheryl mused.
âThat fucking snake Lodge wouldnât ever allow it and your mother would end herself before she let you do that. Not to mention what she might do to get even with you for even thinking it.â I sighed as I gazed at Cheryl. The wheels in my mind turning. Same as hers, I could tell.
âWe just have to think. I mean, we know whoâs behind all this. I wish there was some way I could fucking pin him and make it stick.â I grumbled, shaking my head again.
âSomething tells me thereâs more to your dislike for Veronicaâs father than merely the way heâs making our friends homeless.â Cheryl studied me. I nodded, answering quietly, âThe man got out of prison, discovered my brother was dating his daughter and decided to take a wrecking ball to my brother and my fatherâs relationship. You know how close they were, Cheryl. And you know how much I hate change or tension. And itâs been so tense between them since I moved back I⌠I just feel like the walls are closing in sometimes. But my mom told me to let them figure it out. To focus on figuring myself out. But I canât because I love them both and itâs frustrating the hell out of me, ugh!â
Cheryl nodded. The rest of the walk to my fatherâs construction site was quiet. Both of us thinking. Trying to come up with any form of a solution.
Toni caught up to us, putting her arms around. âIâll take you up on staying at your place.â she muttered, brushing a kiss to Cherylâs cheek as a thank you. I smiled at the two of them and then spoke up.
âIâm seriously going to call my mother tonight and ask if Mayor McCoy can do this. Every part of me wants to go fill her gas tank with sugar but then I remember, Josieâs actually pretty okay and I donât want to get on her bad side. Besides.. Pretty sure her mother didnât come up with the idea to do this on her own. Pretty sure she had a little monetary persuasion.â
Toni eyed me as I kicked over a garbage can nearby.
âItâll be fine. F.Pâs already offered sanctuary at the Wyrm for everyone.â Toni spoke up. I nodded. Feeling a little bit of relief, because Iâd been so fucking worried.
I knew Fangs probably had places he could go. Other family.
Sweet Pea, I wasnât entirely sure he had that. And I knew heâd literally rather die than ask anyone for anything.
Even though if I thought for a second he didnât have a place to crash, Iâd been fully prepared to do something. Anything.
I shoved the thought out of my head.
âWhatâd you mean by monetary persuasion?â Toni asked.
Cheryl filled her in on my five minute rant that sheâd missed. And Toni studied me intently. âAnd now the way you keep your distance and go quiet around Veronica and your brother totally makes sense.â
âI want to like her, I really do, but.. Her father and this fuckery. Because we all know none of this started until that man came to town.â I rubbed at my forehead. God, I was so done with this day.Â
My fatherâs construction site came into view and my dad caught sight of me, making his way over after he finished talking to one of the contractors.Â
âEverything okay, tiny?â My father asked, giving me a gentle look of concern.
âFuck no.â I grumbled, shaking my head. Trying to put my thoughts together and be calm about it.
âHey! Language.â My father scolded in a gentle tone. He eyed me and waited. I took the eviction notice from Toniâs hand and showed him, shaking my head. âI swear to God, that jerk Lodge shouldâve stayed in prison.â
âAgreed.â my father muttered. He handed Toni back the eviction notice and rubbed his chin thoughtfully. I could tell it bothered him too. His jaw set firm, just like it always does when somethingâs upsetting him or making him angry. I get the trait honestly.
âIâm going to call Mom tonight and ask if itâs legal for Mayor McCoy to do that. I mean she canât. Unless the place is condemned.. I wouldnât think.â I explained.
âI dunno, kid. The worldâs not always as black and white as we see it. Kind of where your mom and I butted heads a lot.â my father answered, hugging me. Glancing at Toni. âDo you have somewhere to stay?â
Cheryl smiled and nodded, speaking up.
âSheâs going to be staying at the Manor with me, sir.â she beamed as she held onto Toniâs hand, giving it a squeeze. My dad chuckled and raked his hand over his head.Â
âIf Cherylâs mom starts anything, youâre welcome to stay with Alyssa.â my father told her. Toni gave a soft laugh, nodding. Thanking him quietly.Â
My dad caught sight of the box in my arms, nodding to it. âWhatâs all that?â
âAll the crap Reggie gave me. And the notes and pictures.â I answered, shuffling my feet.
âYouâre not gonna keep that?â my dad questioned. âI know it hurts, but memories.â
âNope. I have zero interest in anything to remind me I was ever stupid enough to date Reggie Mantle.â I shook my head, vetoing the suggestion.
âYikes. How bad was this fight you two had, exactly?â my dad asked again. Heâd been trying to get me to tell him but I just couldnât. Not knowing my dad would definitely try to murder the guy.
Cheryl started to speak up, she started to tell my father what actually happened, but I gave her a gentle elbow in the side. My father eyed me and I sighed.
âIt wasnât exactly an argument. We just broke up. Well, to be honest, I dumped him.â
âIf you want to talk about it..â my dad offered.
âOh, Iâm pretty sure youâd try to murder him and I love you too much to let you go to prison.â I answered quietly. âTrust me, daddy.. You donât want to know. Letâs just leave it at me dumping him, please sir?â
He eyed me, but he let it drop for now.
As soon as we found a barrel we could use to burn the contents of the box in, we made our way over and I turned the box upside down, letting the pictures, letters and the stuffed animal inside settle in the bottom of the barrel.
After striking the match, Cheryl passed it to me. I tossed it in and we stood there, watching the fire quietly. All of us lost in thought.
At one point, Toni spoke up.
âSweet Pea shouldnât have gone off like that.â
âI donât blame him. I get it. Itâs fine.â I shrugged. âHeâs right. I am kind of sheltered. I mean I know what the real world is like, I just.. I got lucky enough that I donât have to face a lot of itâs challenges.â I mused, shaking my head. It still hurt, the way heâd snapped at me so harshly. ,, ah well, I thought to myself, another good reason why heâd never want to be with someone like me and a very good reason why we wouldnât work out and I just need to forget whatever.. this.. is that I am feeling towards him lately.âÂ
âIs there any reason you havenât told your father the real reason you broke up with Reggie?â Cheryl asked the question after weâd all fallen silent again. I leaned back in the chair Iâd dragged over and gazed up at the sky. âBecause I know my dad will try to kill him. And no matter how much Reggie deserves it, I donât want it to happen.â
âOh, Iâm petty enough Iâd tell him.â Toni answered. The three of us shared a laugh and I went quiet. âWas Sweet Pea okay when you left? I know the eviction notice pissed him off.â I asked, grabbing a stick to poke at the fire. Pouting because it was starting to die down. The flame licked at the corner of the first note Reggie ever wrote me and I stared at it a few seconds, lost in thought.
Sweet Peaâs throat cleared. I looked at him.
âYou can ask me yourself.â he answered quietly. Fangs nodded to the dwindling fire. âDamn. I missed the closest Iâll ever come to lighting Mantleâs ass on fire.â
I laughed before I could stop myself. Then I stood to go lug a hose over to put out the fire. It was dying anyway, there wasnât any sense in just letting it keep burning.
âWe could move this to Pops. I gotta pick up dinner for me and Dad tonight anyway, because Archie is apparently going to welsh on his turn to cook. Because heâs with Veronica, of course. Doing god knows what.â
âThe sex.â Fangs teased, wiggling his brows suggestively.
Making me grimace and pretend to gag while plugging my ears as he did so. âEw, gross, why the fuck would you put any of that⌠imagery in my head? Sheâs kind of a friend and heâs my brother and now Iâm going to fucking hurl, sir.âÂ
âFuck it, why not. Popâs it is.â Sweet Pea grumbled, pulling himself off the ground. As we walked towards the diner, I found myself fenced in beside Sweet Pea when Fangs chose to walk on the outside of the sidewalk. My side brushed against him every few steps and I couldnât help but be painfully aware of it. Of him. I shoved it out of my mind immediately. I was barely managing to get the guy to warm up to me as a friend. And right now, I needed to breathe. To get my own head on straight. Enjoy being alone and free to do whatever. Without any obligation to anybody or expectations.
,, besides, look at him⌠do you really think heâd ever go for you? Not a freaking chance. Literally the only reason Reggie Mantle did was just to see if youâd give it up so he could win some fucking bet... Youâre always second choice, the sooner you accept it and stop fighting to be chosen first, the better...â the thought surfaced, taunting me.
When I saw Reggieâs car rounding the corner, I swore to myself and tensed up slightly. And next to me, I felt Sweet Pea tense just a bit himself. He glanced down at me when our hands brushed on accident. Biting his lip. Our gaze lingering on each other, distracting me from Reggieâs car slowing to an idle on the street as he tried to get my attention from inside of it.
I donât know why I did it, but I curled my pinkie around Sweet Peaâs. Giving a careful squeeze because it kind of calmed me down.
âPound sand, Dog.â Toni called out as soon as Reggie had the window rolled down. I laughed and called out to him calmly, âWhat my best friends just said, meatball. Pound sand.âÂ
âGive me a chance.â Reggie pleaded again.
âWhat Iâd like to give you is a swift kick in the nuts.â I retorted.Â
Reggie sighed. Called out calmly, âIâll give you a little more time to calm down. Then you have to talk to me. Please? I.. I love you, okay? The last thing I wanted was everything to come out.â
I swallowed hard, gazing at him. Really weighing the fact that it took him getting caught like he had to make him actually say the words and actually appear to mean them. I dragged my fingers through my hair. Trying to think about it all.
Deep down, I knew that it was already over before I even overheard the conversation about the bet heâd made with Chuck. Iâd already been thinking about it.
Heâd just done me a favor and sped up my decision making process.
âGo away, meatball.â I called out. Reggie rolled up his window and drove away and I shook my head, going quiet. Thinking about everything.
We filed into Popâs, filling up a booth. I guess I was too quiet, because Cheryl cleared her throat.
I glanced over at her and she smiled. Gently but firmly reminding me that Spirit Week was upon us and I needed to be in my best form. I nodded. âIâm trying.â
âDonât try. Do. I canât have my tumbler moping all over the place. And if youâre going to pull off that stunt youâve been practicing, you have to have your head in it. One wrong move and it wonât be pretty.â Cheryl reminded me.
I took a sip of my milkshake and nodded again. âOh trust me, I know.â
âWhat stunt?â Toni asked, looking from me to Cheryl.
Cheryl explained it. The gist of it was that I was going to do my usual bit on the pyramid, a back tuck basket, hopefully come out of that into a back handspring.
âAre all gymnasts super flexible?â Fangs asked, making all of us laugh and groan as he shrugged, âIt was just a question. I mean theyâre always doing all those flips and all that other shit.âÂ
Cheryl giggled at the question, nodding to me. âShe used to put her legs behind her shoulders when we were in grade school.â
âUntil you triple dared me once and I fucking got stuck like an actual human pretzel.â I pretended to pout at her from across the booth. Cheryl laughed. Toni laughed and I pouted at them both. âGlad you find my embarrassment entertaining.â
âOh come on! Iâm just wondering if itâs like that afternoon we were messing around by the quarry and you tried to cram yourself into that pipe.â
âAgain, fuck you both.â I quipped, taking a long and noisy sip of my milkshake.
âYeah, what is it with you and spaces you donât need to be in?â Fangs questioned, chuckling as I stuck my tongue out at him and shrugged.
âI climbed into a dryer once on a dare. I think honestly, itâs just the simple fact that I hate being told I canât or shouldnât do something, because thatâs how the dryer dare all started...â I trailed off, drumming my fingers against the tabletop.
âWasnât that one on your Snapchat stories?â Cheryl asked. Digging for her phone and going to the app. Going through my stories until she found it.Â
I laughed as I heard one of my old friends in the background going âAnd it was in this moment that Allie knew sheâd truly fucked up.â just as I started to realize I might or might not be stuck and started to panic a little. Yelping about âErrors were made. Oh no. This is.. How am I explaining this to my mother, Lexy? Oh god, sheâs going to have a cowâŚâ as I laughed hysterically and tried to wiggle myself free. âSuddenly, this doesnât seem like a good idea. Stop filming me Raya and help, shit!â
âDramatic?â Sweet Pea chuckled, catching my gaze.
âEh, maybe a little.â I shrugged, sipping my milkshake. Trying to drop my own gaze first, but unable to do so for whatever reason.
âWhatâs the thought process behind cramming yourself into a dryer though?â he questioned.
âI was told I shouldnât or that I wouldnât. Then dared to do it. So I did it...â I answered. Gazing over at him. A puzzled look on my face because he was kind of staring at me. Intently. Lost in thought for a few seconds.
âA dare, huh?â he eyed me as he asked.Â
I held his gaze because try as I might, I couldnât seem to stop myself from doing it.âMhm.â I muttered, finally managing to break our little stare down. Glancing down at my french fries and shoveling a few in my mouth.
After we left Popâs, I made my way back home, flopping myself across my bed. Cheryl was sitting at my vanity with her legs propped against it and Toni was sprawled out on a giant beanbag chair that sits in the corner of my room, flipping through a magazine.
âSo.. Is there some reason you and Sweet Pea keep staring at one another?â Toniâs question drew me out of my own thoughts. I glanced over at her, shrugging. âI donât know what youâre talking about.â
âYou noticed too?â Cheryl asked Toni. Toni held my gaze, smirking at me as she nodded yes to Cheryl. âYou know exactly what Iâm talking about, Cherry. And for the record, you definitely didnât look at Mantle that way.â
âI donât look at Sweet Pea in any certain way either? I mean.. I donât think I do?â I questioned, confused. Wondering why I kept getting asked the question or accused of doing this.Â
âYou do.â
âItâs like youâre starving.â
âOr thirsty.â Toni teased, the three of us bursting into laughter. I actually had to stop and think about it.
And found myself confronted with the fact that maybe⌠possibly⌠I did think Sweet Pea was hot. I had since my first run in with the guy, right after I moved back to Riverdale. I just.. Didnât make it a point to actually stop and think about it or dwell on it.
But I found myself wondering.. If my best friends noticed any looks I may or may not be giving him⌠Did that mean he had?
Somehow, I doubted it. And that relieved me.
âAll Iâm going to say is heâs hot. But thatâs it. And neither of you better say a word! Thatâs all the guy needs, his ego getting so big he canât fit a room. Besides⌠even if I did⌠feel an attraction⌠thereâs the small fact that guy absolutely cannot stand me. He only tolerates me because weâre friends.â I admitted. Going quiet. Letting the thought sink in. Trying my best to process it.
Or forget it. Because that was pretty much my only option here. Shove these pesky thoughts and any attraction that Iâd been feeling as deep down as theyâd go.
Otherwise, this was going to get awkward. Fast.

Hello Chana! Which characters from your stories (like crossovers) would get along romantically? Assuming their significant other from their original story doesn't mind haha!
what a fascinating question!
i have to admit i have not thought about this possibility at all. i mean shipping my protagonists with others outside their story?? such an interesting concept! i hope i do your question some justice!
âredefining destiny!jk x on a cold summer day!yn
i find redest!jk and oacsd!yn to be quite similar in a sense đł theyâre both pretty noncommittal and prefer hookups over getting into an actual relationship
but like imagine if they came together đŠđŠ literally
jkâs been through a lot of bad shit tbh and i think that yn has the capacity to help him get over the slumps!! their romance would most likely be slow-burn. they hook up once... then twice... then like three times đ until they become official unofficial friends with benefits
of course, an unwanted romance will blossom with time. in my mind, their chemistry would be *chefâs kiss*
yn is confident, comforting and caring and observant. jk can come off as cold (but heâs really a huge sweetheart). i think their relationship would be exciting to watch unfold!! (especially in a college au,,, which is like what their original stories are LMFAO)
âfor everland!yoongi x all you see is blue!yn
this.... is quite an interesting combination
we all know that aysib yn is a dreamer who has her head stuck in the clouds. her âlove interestâ prince jk from aysib was just like her but almost worse (yikes)
but what if yn was matched with a man who could keep her grounded? someone so cynical and intelligent that he would surely balance out her vivid imagination and fantasies???
an unlikely combo, but i feel like they would be the epitome of enemies to lovers đł yoongi would say some mean shit to yn and sheâd honestly probably cry over it. but once she reaches a certain threshold, she will fight back and end up impressing yoongi (who had previously thought of her as a kid because of her shallow thoughts). in turn, yn thinks yoongi is a big, grumpy pedant. over time, i think theyâd warm up to each other and learn/grow from each other as well
i donât think theyâd necessarily be stuck in a dystopian au though. definitely e2l in a modern setting (in a bustling city!!)
ânothing a lil green canât fix!jimin x appetence!yn
i feel like nalgcf jimin would do well with a partner who is soft and sweet and kind (just like him lmaooo). tbh where the colors fade!yn was also a good contender but i figured appetence!yn would reign over her. (just because the jimin in appetence!ynâs story is a fuckin asshole so she deserves to know a nicer jimin đ¤)
and i think their romance would be fairly sweet
yn is optimistic and loves to tell stories. but sheâs not overbearing and that outgoing either; she has her limits. i think she would balance well with jimin who likes to listen
their romance would be 100% fluff. think coffee shop/barista au cuz thatâs really the vibes that i get from them LMAO
âover the moon!yoongi x propinquity!yn
yoongiâs cold, serious and calm. ynâs fiery, serious and passionate. i wonder how thatâll work đłÂ
in a strange way, i kinda see the chemistry. theyâre both serious characters but in totally different ways
if they ever met, they would probably subtly judge each other (without saying anything)
but with each subsequent coincidental meeting, theyâd grow more and more curious about each other
i see them in a workplace romance together. both of them would want to keep it professional (cuz remember theyâre serious people who take every aspect of their life seriously đ¤). but later, they wouldnât be able to resist each other đł
i imagine their romance to be taken as seriously as well đđ
âthe exam!yoongi x insurrection!yn
this is the ultimate education system combo đ¤Š
you might be asking why i didnât pair yn with the main male protagonist of the exam (taehyung). but trust me, there is a reason!!Â
yn is actually a character who is a bit... intimidating. sheâs smart, charismatic and sis founded a whole ass cult okay đâ taehyung, on the other hand, likes to pretend heâs intimidating (but we all know heâs a huge softie)
as a consequence, if the exam!tae were to be paired with insurrection!yn, the romance would like... not progress. tae would see yn as someone to look up to (an older sister like figure, despite her being younger than him canonically lmao)
but with YOONGI, on the other hand,,, their romance would be *chefâs kiss*
first of all, yoongi is stubborn. he thinks heâs always right đ¤ but like,,, so does yn. hear me out đł that might sound like a recipe for disaster, but yoongi and yn arenât heartless people either. they do actually care. so while they would probably drive each other crazy with their strong-ass personalities, they would also secretly admire each other for standing up for what they believe in, respectively
their romance would probably best be set in a dystopian/sci-fi setting. probably a lot of angst đ¤đ¤ their romance would look calm and collected on the outside but would realistically be fiery and explosive on the inside!!
this was a LOT harder than i thought đđđâbut it was so fun to revisit my older characters and try to ship them with my other characters!! lmk if you agree or disagree đ

fluffy dreams x

warnings: literally none other than bad writing
[word count: 1.9k]
this is legit based off a dream i had last night, but i added a bunch of stuff so it makes sense lmaooo.. pls donât bully me this is my first time writing :)
(also, this is during the youngblood era, so like 2018-ish)
I was sitting in a crowd surrounding a circular table. Seated at the table were the four members of 5 Seconds of Summer; Michael, Luke, Calum, and Ashton. They were doing an interview where fans could come watch live. The interviewer was seated on a tall chair in the middle of the crowd. Everyone was listening eagerly to their responses.
"Okay, so now we're going to give the audience a chance to speak with the band! Does that sound good to you guys?" The interviewer exclaimed before pointing to 5SOS. They did a little cheer and clapped their hands.
"What about y'all?!" She gestured to us. Everybody screamed, desperate to finally meet our idols. The interviewer looked worried for a second. Honestly, I would be too if I was in the middle of a bunch of crazy fangirls.
"So we're going to have the guys pick the first person that gets to talk to them. Michael, do you want to pick first?" The interviewer put him on the spot. I felt slightly guilty for him, all of that pressure must be stressful.
Michael looked at his bandmates for help, but they just shrugged at him. "Go on, Mikey. Pick someone," Calum teased, leaning forward on his knees. "Fuck you," Michael mumbled under his breath, barely audible.
The guitarist craned his neck to search the crowd, and everybody in the audience held their breath. I was watching his calculated eyes as they landed on me. "You. The one with the white top and plaid pants," Michael called out. I looked down at my outfit and around at the people around me. Nobody else was wearing that... I don't think. I was about to ask if he meant me when the girl next to me nudged my arm. "He's talking to you! Go up there!" She whispered.
I stood up and made my way to their table. I tried to seem more confident than I was on the inside, because I was secretly fangirling. I think it worked because I didn't receive any sympathetic looks from the guys, only smiles.
I took a seat next to Michael and gave them all a little wave. "Why don't you introduce yourself? In the meantime, let's give them some privacy," The interviewer said before a screen came up around the table. (idfk bc in my dream the other people just dissapeared & then came back so)
"Woah, what the f-" Luke started before Ashton elbowed him in his side. I laughed before I realised nobody else found that funny and bit my lip. I looked at Ashton who had a light smile playing on his face.
"So, um, my name is Hazel and I'm 19 years old. I came all the way from Australia to see you guys," I introduced.
"Oh, we're from Australia, too!" Michael blurted out. I looked over to him with incredulous eyes and said, "No, really? I didn't know that," before giggling.
"What part of Australia?" Ashton asked, leaning back and uncrossing his legs.
"Sydney. I'm basic, I know," I answered while cracking a smile. Luke and Calum chuckled at my lame joke.
We continued chatting for a while, and I felt very close to Michael. He seemed like a funny and genuine person. Our conversation was cut short when the interviewer suddenly removed the screen. "Sorry, guys. You're time is up," She said not so apologetically. "Luke, do you want to pick the next person?" I took this as her way of telling me, Get out, you're time is over sweetie.
I rose to my feet and plopped back in my seat. Luke had picked the next girl- who looked like she was about to faint- and the girl next to me nudged my arm again. I looked over to her with a questioning look. "Yeah?"
"What was it like?" She eagerly asked, her eyes wide and slightly crazed.
"Um, it was good. They were really nice to me and easy to talk to," I explained, a smile forming on my lips.
"What did they smell like?" The girl asked next. I had to do a double take at that question. That's some next level fangirl shit.
"I don't know! I wasn't sitting there and smelling them." I exclaimed exasperatedly. She rolled her eyes and turned away from me, signalling that the conversation was over.
I sighed and pulled out my phone. Mindlessly texting some of my friends back home while waiting for the other girl to emerge. I snapped one of my closest friends, Ruel, telling him that I finally got to meet 5SOS. I only had to wait a couple seconds before he responded with, "omg yasss you go girl". I smiled and shook my head at his sarcasm. A few minutes later, the girl came out of the screen-shield with a starstruck expression. Was that what I looked like?!
The process repeated, but this time Calum picked the person to go in. This time, it was a tall guy with blonde hair. I looked back to my phone before realising how familiar that person was. I caught a glimpse of his face and it was... Ruel? What the-
I angrily texted him so he could see my messages when he came out. How could he not tell me he was coming? He could've at least came with me.
When his time was up, he glanced over at me and sent a lazy grin my way. I rolled my eyes but couldn't stop the smile creeping onto my face. Ruel went to sit down where he was originally and I huffed.
(okay this next part is unrealistic- well this whole story is tbh- but this is what happened in my dream)
"Last up we have Ashton! Ashton, are you ready to pick the last person?" The interviewer stated dramatically. He raised his eyebrows at her tone and exhaled. "Let's hope so," He mumbled.
Ashton scanned the crowd yet again, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. His eyes locked on mine and I gave him a comforting smile; I assumed he would just return the gesture and move on. But his eyes never left mine. Ashton sent me a lopsided grin before exclaiming, "Hazel! Come on up here."
My jaw dropped to say the least. There were mumbles from the people surrounding me, as well as multiple dirty looks being thrown at me. The interviewer glanced around and looked back at the crew mouthing, "Is this allowed?" The camera crew in turn shrugged at her.
I scrambled to my feet and picked my way through the audience. This time I sat down next to Ashton. I figured I would sit next to him because he was the one that invited me. "Why did you pick me again?" I whisper-shouted at him. Ashton just let out a little giggle while looking at Calum and threw an arm behind me.
I shook my head playfully at their stupidity and leaned back. They asked me questions about my life back in Australia, and I asked about random things. I didn't want to be basic and just ask about music.
"Ashton, are you ever going to dye your hair like Michael?" I inquired.
"Nah, he's too pussy," Luke jabbed, making everyone laugh.
"Says you, Mr. I've-never-done-anything-to-my-hair," Michael crowed as everyone laughed again.
I reached my hand up to run it through Ashton's dark brown locks. "I think if you dyed it a red type color, it would look really good," I suggested. He peeped up at me through his eyelashes and I held his gaze. My cheeks tinted pink as I realised our close proximity.
I moved away from him only for Ashton to wrap an arm around my waist. I glanced at him but he was already talking to Calum. I felt slightly awkward in the position, so to free my arm I placed a hand on his knee. Ashton slightly stiffened before relaxing. A grin played on my lips as we all engaged in conversation.
The screen lowered again and the interviewer was talking to the audience. "So that's all the time we have for today! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, and we'll hopefully see you boys in the future," She winked. "We're going to let 5SOS exit first, so please stay seated until we give you the word."
I made to go back into the crowd when Ashton grabbed my hand and pulled me with them. "We want you to come with us to the back room," Michael giddily told me. "I heard there was a movie theater back there." I sucked in a short breath before following. I relished in the feeling of Ashton's warm hand against mine.
I could practically feel all the people behind me glaring daggers into my skull. Their whispers washed over my head and I felt a wave of anxiety. Ashton must have sensed this as he brushed his thumb over my knuckles. I gratefully smiled at him before looking at the ground.
We reached the 'back room' which was basically a movie theater but with long couches instead of individual seats. I gasped as I took in the lush couches. I dropped Ashton's hand and bee-lined towards one in the center. I settled into the comfortable cushions and reveled in the coziness.
Michael sat down on my left and Ashton on my right. I snatched Michael's beanie off his head, letting out a soft "teehee." He opened his mouth to protest but stopped when he saw me tugging the cap onto my brown hair. "You're so annoying," Michael chuckled.
"You know you love me," I retorted, sticking out my tongue at him.
"Real mature," He rolled his eyes sarcastically, still smiling.
"Hazel," Ashton murmured from beside me. I twisted my head to look up at him. "Yeah?"
He tapped the end of my nose, saying, "Boop." I burst out laughing- even though it wasn't that funny- and they all looked at me like I was crazy.
"Shhh, the movie is starting!" Luke harshly whispered. "Oops," I giggled, mimicking a shush gesture to Luke. The beginning of Back to the Future started playing on the large screen in front of us.
I felt a familiar arm snake around my waist yet again, pulling me into Ashton's side. I leaned up so my mouth was next to his ear. "Very bold and cuddly, I see," I whispered, running my nose along the shell of his ear. The man below me tensed only slightly before rubbing his hand along the side of my torso.
The theater was dark, only the faint glow from the screen providing light. I rested my hand on his knee, but gauged no reaction from Ashton. I lightly ran my middle finger along the inseam of his jeans, moving slowly up towards his crotch area. I heard an intake of breath above me and smirked to myself.
I laid my hand on his upper thigh, making myself comfortable. My head settled against Ashton's firm chest and I let out a content sigh. Our closeness satisfied my craving for human touch. I want to stay like this forever.

Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 *tumblr still hasnât fixed the link thing, sorry!*
Previously...
His plan was really beginning to fall into place and it was all because of⌠you. Oh little Y/N has come so so far, he smiles but you still had a long way to go, still so much to do but it was only a matter of time before he would stand from afar and watch everything crumble around the Jeons, your very existence the sole thing he needed to kick-start complete chaos.
âWhy?â You groan. âWhy would you let me do something as stupid as that?â
âListen, I tried to stop you butââ
âYou didnât try hard enough,â You grumble, head in your hands.
âIf itâs any consolation, he didnât seem too bothered by it.â
âThis is your fault,â You huff. âI told you I didnât want to go drinking but you insisted that Iââ
âOh, donât you dare blame this on me.â Wendy wags her finger at you. âI said we should go drinking, yes, but itâs not my fault you decided to drink up half the bar.â
You let out a whine, letting your head thud against the table as you grumble to yourself.
âAnyway so, for your sake I pretended like the logistics conference bullshit story the two of you fed me last night was the truth, but come on, tell me⌠howâd you meet him?â She questions, prodding at your cheek.
âWell, a uhh, a c-conference.â
âHonestly Y/N, you expect me to believe that?â
âOkay, fine,â You sigh, shrinking away as she gives you a pointed look. âIt wasnât a logistics conference, but it was a conferenceâŚâ
âOh, donât tell me it was comic-con or somethââ
âHey, comic-con is cool,â You frown. âAnd so what if thatâs where we met?â
She simply rolls her eyes at that before she squints at you, the gears turning in her head, a moment of realization dawning on her.
âNo, no thatâs not where you met him,â She murmurs. âYou were busy during comic-con⌠you wouldnât stop bitching about how you were going to miss it.â
âN-no, I went! I uhh took a day off and Iââ
âDonât lie to me. Youâd be the last person to get a day off work,â She snips, eyebrows furrowed. âWhen did you meet him? Why wouldnât you tell me you know him? Did our days of dreaming of running into him on the street mean nothing to you?â
You laugh at that, shaking your head at her.
âItâs complicated⌠heâs a secretive person,â You mumble. âAnyway, it hasnât been too long okay... Maybe 2 or 3 months max. You know I can never hide anything from you for too long anyway.â
Wendy taps her fingers on the table, doing the math in her head. 2 or 3 months meant that it was right in the timeframe ofâ no way.
âNo,â She gasps. âNo⌠donât tell me you met him at my conference!â She practically screams out the sentence, causing everyone to look at your table.
âN-no, no thatâs not where we met!â You lie before you put your index finger to your lips, trying to get Wendy to calm down.
âMy god, thatâs why youâve been avoiding all the texts where I try to set you up with potential sugar daddies! Youââ
âNot so loud!â You scold before you look around, hoping no one in the cafĂŠ had caught that.
âOkay, so heâs your sugarâ fructose father,â She corrects when you smack her hand. âAnd you didnât think to tellââ
âFructose father⌠honestly Wendy?â
âWhat? Okay, glucose guardian⌠or carbohydrate caretaker! Take your pick,â She smiles.
âThe term isnât the problem!â You grumble, burying your head in your hands. âLook can we just drop this?â
âAbsolutely not,â She replies. âYou bagged the literal whale shark of the industry⌠y-youâre set for life!â
âWhale shaâ?â You shake your head at your friend before you clear your throat. âListen, you canât tell anyone⌠and I mean it okay? I donât want you to say yes to me and then text your whole friend list seconds after I leave.â
âYou have such little faith in me,â She fake sobs, sniffling as she wipes away imaginary tears. âYou know anyway, no one would even believe me if I told them. He doesnât seem like the type of person who would need a sugar baby.â
You nod at that, sipping at your drink, hoping that she would move on to another topic, but you know Wendy and she would milk you off every single drop of information before she leaves you be.
âSo, youâre really not going to let me have any details?â She questions as you busy yourself with stirring your drink. âOh come on! Tell me one thing. At least tell me heâs bad in bed. He canât have good looks, money and be good in bed. That would be unfair.â
âSeriously? Thatâs what you want to know?â You snort, shaking your head. âAnyway, I canât say because we havenât really⌠done t-that,â You stammer. âWeâre just in a uhh platonic⌠thing.â
âPlease,â She snorts. âI saw you and him getting all handsy last night. Donât lie.â
âWe⌠we were? Oh my god. How handsy?â You query, worried. âH-he wonât fire me⌠will he?â
âNot with the way he was looking at you he wonât.â
âWendy, Iâm serious,â You wail, groaning inwardly. âWeâre supposed to be just friends, okay?â
âAnd how are you doing with that? Youâve loved him ever since Iâve known you.â
âThatâs not true,â You mumble, looking away. âI was uhh, enamoured by him, yes, but⌠thatâs like you know, my daydream version of him. Thatâs not him, him. I can separate fact from fiction, okay?â
âOkay, sure,â She smirks. âJust saying, he looks better in person.â
âI know,â You hum, smiling.
Perhaps you like the fact that you can finally tell someone about your whole Jungkook situation⌠even if technically youâre not supposed to. The whole thing just seemed so crazy to you and being able to tell Wendy about the whirlwind of events that had taken place, feels⌠nice. The girl could coax anything out of you and as much as you hated to admit it, you loved talking to her about anything and everything. You trusted her with your whole heart and she just always understood you, always laughed at your jokes, no matter how bad they were which you thoroughly appreciated.
You tell her about him from start to end. You tell her about all the places youâve brought him to, all the trouble youâve almost gotten him in to and she laughs because whatever friendship or relationship you had with him, it sounded so entirely you. You have a penchant for danger, that Wendy is well aware of considering that she had been subjected to the many adventures youâd taken her on during college.
As you tell story after story, Wendy only grows more worried because you had that look, that smile and itâs one she rarely sees. Sheâs glad youâre happy, in fact sheâd wish for nothing more, but the sugar business has always been misleading like that. One day you think the man youâre with has genuine feelings for you and the next, they drop a big fat cheque in your mailbox with a short letter saying this was fun, but weâre done. Sugar babies like you and her are in abundance thus, essentially, replaceable, expendable. It hurts, having to burst your bubble but if not her then who?
âHeâs Jeon Jungkook,â Wendy says as a response to your story, her voice stern and you know what that means but⌠you wanted her to know that he was more than just his name.
âI know heâs Jeon Jungkook and all of that but, heâs really sweet too⌠nothing like how they paint him in the media.â
âCareful,â Wendy hums. âYou have to remember your place.â
âI know my place,â You snap, before you let out a sigh.
âYou know Iâm not trying to be mean, right?â Wendy pouts. âIt just looks like you sort of⌠actually like like him even if youâve been trying to convince me otherwise.â
âOkay, maybe I do⌠a little⌠but itâs under control,â You frown, letting your finger idly draw patterns on the table.
âI trust you,â She smiles. âI just thought a reminder wouldnât hurt. I know Iâve appreciated it every time you gave me one.â
You simply smile at her and nod, a soft thanks leaving your lips to which she crunches her nose at. Wendy always means well, has always been there to look out for you. She protects you with the ferocity of a mother and youâve never been anything short of grateful for her. Well, except for when she convinces you that a night at the bar is a good idea⌠youâre not so grateful for her then but otherwise, you are. You know what she means about remembering your place and as much as you hate to admit it, you needed the reminder. Though Jungkook has been nothing but kind and sweet to you, you know that all of this is merely a contractual agreement. Sure, you let yourself get carried away once in a while but you guess youâre allowed to have some fun too. At the end of the day though, you must remember that you and him come from essentially separate worlds and no matter how enticing the idea of you and him being anything more than friends seems, itâs something that can never be.
As you stand outside the cafĂŠ, giving Wendy one last hug before the two of you part ways, you sigh when she reminds you that you should probably call Jungkook soon.
âYou better thank him for carrying you up to your apartment too,â She laughs, remembering how mortified you looked when she had told you that it couldnât possibly be her that got you up to your apartment last night considering that she wasnât in the car.
âIâm a mess,â You sigh as you rest your forehead on her shoulder.
âItâs going to be fine,â She smiles. âHe isnât going to fire you.â
âHow do you know that?â
âI just do,â She winks before she pulls away, waving to you as she walks down the pavement.
Youâre not sure what she means by that and although you think the statement had meant to comfort you, ease the nervousness that you feel, it doesnât. You grumble to yourself as you walk towards your apartment, the sun already beginning to set in the horizon. Itâs no surprise to you. Put you and Wendy in the same place and the two of you could talk for hours on end. Itâs a wonder how you got any work done in college when the both of you had shared an apartment.
Itâs a long walk home and all you do is think of what youâre meant to say. Youâre not sure how to start. You had a host of things to apologize for. First, you had to apologize for even calling him down to the bar, then apologize for the fact that he had to drop both you and Wendy home. Oh, and you had to apologize for being handsy too. God, you canât believe you did that. Wendy said you did it all. That you had slapped his chest teasingly when you were trying to get him to buy shots, that you had cupped his face in your hands when he said no. She said you even placed your hands on his waist⌠ugh, why did you do that? Youâre never touching alcohol again, is what you mumble to yourself over and over again. You canât believe he even had to carry you up to your apartment. A fool, thatâs what you are. You grumble continuously to yourself, garnering weird looks from passing strangers, but youâre too deep in thought to notice any of that. Mortified. Youâre mortified at how drunk you has managed to destroy the one good thing you had going for you.
The same thoughts replay over and over again in your head, even after youâve slipped into the tiny restaurant by the street to grab a hot bowl of noodles. You would think that the food would at least distract you but oh no, not even food can fix this one.
Youâre sat in your apartment, phone in your hand, stomach queasy and as much as you would like to blame it on the dinner you just had, you know it has nothing to do with it. Youâve called Jungkook and hung up before the dial tone starts at least 5 times now. You know you have to do it, that there is no avoiding it, but youâre just so nervous. Youâre rambling to yourself, playing out the planned conversation in detail when you hear muffled sounds coming from your phone. You look down at your screen, eyes widening before you curse when you realize that you had accidentally called him. Begrudgingly, you press your phone to your ear, groaning inwardly when you hear his voice.
âHello? Y/N? Say somethââ
âHi.â
âHey,â He answers, voice sounding smooth, happy⌠not mad or uncomfortable. Odd. âThought you butt dialed me or something,â He laughs.
âWell, yes, sort of but no I mean⌠I, yeah I donât know.â
You shut your eyes, warmth flooding your cheeks because you sound like a babbling idiot right now.
âUhh, right⌠Well, are you free right now? Because Iâm actually a few minutes away from the bridge and I was thinking I could come pick you up for some donuts.â
âHuh? Oh, s-sure.â
âGreat, Iâll see you in a few!â
He mustâve been lying because he reaches your house far too soon or perhaps you hadnât realized you had spent all those minutes playing out 15 different conversations in your head.
For the most part, the car ride isnât awkward but thatâs only because you werenât given a chance to speak. Someone had called him on his phone, moments after you had said hi to him and the conversation lasted all the way till you reached the destination. He gestures for you to go ahead of him when he parks his car near the usual hangout spot. In all honesty, youâre glad whoever it is that called him had decided to discuss business matters at such an odd hour. If he didnât, who knows what would have transpired in the car. You canât run away forever though because now youâre here, seated on the bench next to Jungkook with twice the usual number of donuts in your hand.
âI guess youâre really in the mood for donuts tonight huh?â Jungkook laughs, peering into the brown paper bag that holds his favourite snack. You only nod, still trying to arrange your thoughts.
âHowâs that hangover youâre nursing? Did you sleep well?â He questions, nonchalant as he munches on his donut.
âItâs uh, alright and y-yes I didâŚâ You mumble, eyes downcast as your fingers tug at your earlobe nervously.
âHey, itâs nothing to be shy about. We all have nights like that,â He smiles, using the back of his hand to wipe off the powdered sugar on his lips.
Thereâs an uncomfortable silence that hangs in the air and it makes Jungkook feel like heâs done something wrong. His mind starts working at a hundred miles per minute. Does being around him make you feel uncomfortable now? Was it the cuddling that had put you off? Well⌠you couldnât really blame him for that. You were the one that had wrapped yourself around him first. Granted, he knew you were drunk. Damn it. Heâs a dick, he frowns. He didnât really mean to take advantage of the situation like that but he couldnât help that it felt⌠nice to be in your arms. I-If you hadnât put your arms around him, he wouldâve let you be. See, heâs a good guy. He had nothing to worry about, he hums. But then again, he did kiss you on the cheek... multiple times. Ah, this was starting to look bad. He wants you to know he meant it in the most innocent way possible. You just looked adorable in your sleep and⌠and and thereâs just all of these feelings he has that heâs still trying to properly map out but at the time it just seemed like a good idea. His lips are parted, an apology just at the tip of his tongue, but youâre speaking before he can get anything out.
âIâmâ itâs⌠umm⌠Iâm sorry I called you yesterday. I-I shouldnât have and I caused you all of that trouble and I justââ You hesitate, forcing yourself to look at him, eyebrows knit together. âPlease donât fire me. It wonât happen again, I promise.â
âFire you? Why would Iâ Iâm not going to fire you,â He laughs. âWhere did you get that idea?â
âI mean wasnât what I did yesterday sort of a breach of the contract? You wanted all of this to be on the down low but then I called, and I basically forced you to come down to the bar andââ
âYou didnât force me to do anything.â
âI know but it was⌠unprofessional of me to do what I did and you had to carry me up to my apartment too,â You frown, fingers playing with the hem of your shirt. âN-Not that I actually remember that⌠Wendy had to refresh my memory because the last thing I honestly remember is seeing you walk into the bar and even that part is foggy at best. Ugh, Iâm so sorry. This⌠this rarely happens and Iâm just⌠Iâm so sorry.â
You donât remember anything⌠Heâs in the clear for now, he guesses.
âY/N, relax,â He tips your chin up so youâd look at him, offering you a soft smile. âWhat are friends for if they donât drive halfway across town to pick you up drunk from a bar? Youâd do the same for me, wouldnât you?â
âI doubt you would want your posse to see me,â You laugh. âBut, if I had a car, yes, I would.â
Jungkook frowns at your first statement. Why would you think that at all? He knows he makes it seem like he doesnât want to be seen with you in public sometimes but thatâs not really what itâs like. He didnât know how to say it but more than anything, heâs concerned for your safety. He could handle the rumours, handle the press and well, even his motherâs wrath but you on the other hand, it would be cruel to subject you to all of that. He means to say all of that to you but when he peers over at you, you have this expression that mimics fear becauseâ
âOh y-youâre frowning⌠was that a test?â You ask, gulping. âWas I supposed to say no because then no I wouldnâtâ"
âNo, no,â He snorts, waving his hands. âNo, it wasnât a test. Itâsâ Look, itâs all good. You shouldnât even have to apologize about yesterday.â
âOkay⌠but Iâm still sorry,â You mumble, pouting as you tap your feet at the ground at an uneven rhythm.
He sighs, shaking his head at you as he grins. Why and how are you so adorable all the damn time?
âYou know you and I should go out for drinks sometime,â He smiles. âYou should show me how you guys live it up here in the South. Seems to be a lot more fun than the North judging by the state you were in yesterday.â
âEven after what you saw yesterday you actually still want to go out drinking with me? Are you a masochist?â You laugh.
âI happen to think youâre quite fun when youâre drunk. Slurring and babbling,â He hums. âPlus you talk with this perpetual pout because you think itâll get you whatever you want.â
âI donât do that,â You grumble.
âYou do.â
âDo not.â
âWell, Iâll record it for you when we go drinking.â
âFine.â
Itâs an opportunity that never presents itself because itâs been a week since heâs last seen you. You say youâre busy with work and he understands that because you work two jobs after all. Jungkookâs not really the clingy type but he⌠misses you. He wonders if perhaps you were lying, that maybe you do remember the events of that night. Maybe more than that, Jungkook just wants to clear the air because his guilty conscience is eating him alive. Although nothing he did was technically bad as per se but⌠he still feels it was out of line.Â
Perhaps he just needed to rip the band-aid off, just tell you that maybe he sort of kind of likes you and see where things could go? No. What if that freaks you out? He likes your company too much to risk you breaking off the contract but then again⌠he knows you wouldnât do that. You needed the money, bad. But⌠he doesnât want you to feel forced into staying friends with him. He hates how his mind always goes off on a tangent of its own, making mountains out of molehills. Maybe he just needed to see you to reassure himself that he was just making everything up in his head and thatâs why he stops by the convenience store you work at, knowing that you have tonightâs shift. When he steps in however, he sees a young male working at the counter and at that he simply snorts.
Your phone dings and you grumble from your spot on the couch. Swiping at the message on your screen.
[9:31]Â Jungkook:Â busy working you say
[9:31]Â Jungkook:Â but youâre not at work???
[9:31]Â Jungkook:Â [image sent]
Crap. You groan when you see the image. Itâs a picture of the convenience store counter, the worker at the register looking a little confused.
[9:33] You: âŚ
[9:33]Â You:Â omg are you stalking me?
Oh damn⌠Jungkook just realizes how creepy this actually seems. He didnât really think this through, he mumbles to himself as he slurps the instant ramen he just got for himself.
[9:33]Â Jungkook:Â wait what? no!
[9:33]Â Jungkook:Â I was just in the area
[9:33]Â You:Â hmm suspicious but ok sure
[9:33]Â You:Â anyway sigh fine you got me
[9:33]Â You:Â im not at work because im sick
He frowns at that, wondering why you would lie and say you were busy instead.
[9:34] Jungkook: so thatâs why we havenât been hanging out?
[9:34]Â Jungkook:Â lol why didnât you just say so
[9:34]Â Jungkook:Â how bad is it
[9:34]Â Jungkook:Â did you go see the doctor?
[9:34] You: ah yeah itâs just the flu
Jungkook hums at that, finishing the remainder of his meal before pocketing his phone to move towards the hot food section of the store to get a bowl of warm soup to go.
The pain in your abdomen hasnât subsided and your body feels like itâs on fire. You havenât been able to keep anything down at all today and you wonder if itâs the funky tasting egg sandwich you had for lunch two days ago thatâs making you feel like this. Youâd go to work if you could⌠you really canât afford to take the day off, but you can hardly move. Youâve made your couch your bed for the past two days because from this spot you can crawl to the front door to open it when your food gets delivered. Speaking of, the delivery boy should have been here at least half an hour ago, but you donât mind, youâre not that hungry anyway. Though you donât really feel like eating, you know you should. You wonder what the point is though. Youâve barely digested it before you find yourself hugging the toilet bowl, retching out the contents of your stomach.
*Ding Dong*
âComing,â You answer weakly, crawling to your door. You canât stand, not for too long anyway because it feels like youâre being stabbed in your abdomen repeatedly.
You get to the entrance, pulling yourself up by the door knob. Your hand feebly reaches into your pocket for money as you open the door, not even bothering to check whoâs on the other side of it.
âY/N,â Jungkook smiles. âI come bearing gifts!â
âJ-Jungkook, whatââ
You donât even get to finish your sentence, heâs already stepping in your apartment, rushing you to the couch.
âJust rest,â He mumbles. âI was close by so I thought I should bring you some soup.â
âYou didnât really have to,â You murmur, watching him set the plastic bag down on your coffee table.
âWell, what are friends for ifâ Y/N?â
Youâre running to the washroom, throwing the door open before squatting by the toilet bowl as you heave out water and bile, having already thrown up your lunch much earlier in the day.
âAre you okay?â Jungkook questions, rushing to pat your back.
You nod, breathing heavily as your hold your abdomen in pain. Curse the stupid egg sandwich. Youâre never eating one again.
âYou said you had the flu,â Jungkook grumbles. âThis isnât the flu.â
âIt is. Itâs the stomach flu.â
He rolls his eyes at that and you scowl.
âItâs real, okay? Itâs a thing.â
âDid you even go to the doctorâs?â
You mumble something under your breath, flushing the toilet before you move away from him to crawl back to the couch.
âWell, did you?â He questions again as he tries to pick you up, but you push his hands away, getting onto the couch on your own.
âNo.â
âWhy not?â
You refuse to give him an answer, trying to reach for the soup instead.
âWeâre going right now,â He says, moving to pack up the food on the table.
âYouâre overreacting,â You sigh. âItâs not as bad as it looks, okay? Itâll go away in a few days.â
âYou can barely stand, youâre vomiting and you have a fever,â He mumbles, touching your forehead. âItâs bad and we should get you to a doctor.â
âNo.â
âWhy not? Are you afraid of doctors? Iâll be thereââ
âNo.â
âStop being stubborn,â He frowns.
âI canât go,â You sigh.
âCanât or wonât?â
âI-I donât have insurance,â You mumble.
âYou have me,â Jungkook says matter-of-factly. âYou donât need insurance.â
âJungkook,â You sigh, shaking your head. âNo.â
You hate being indebted to someone and especially so to Jungkook. You already had your whole drunken fiasco last week and you canât let him do this for you. Youâre probably the worst sugar baby in the business, you sigh.
âWeâre going,â Is all he says as he picks you up, empty plastic bag hanging off his hand.
âNo, please,â You beg, attempting to get out of his hold but youâre too weak to fight. You try to squirm, but Jungkook holds you tight, hands secure under your knees and back as he presses at the button in the elevator. God, youâre a mess, you sigh.
Sat in the front seat of his car, Jungkook curses as he looks up directions on his phone.
âSeriously? The closest hospital is in the North?â He questions. âWhy isnât there one in the South?â
âAsk the mayor,â You huff. âHe said the South doesnât need one.â
âIncredulous.â Jungkook shakes his head. âHold this,â He places the empty plastic bag in your lap before his hand squeezes yours. âIâll get you there, okay?â
âOkay,â you nod, fiddling with the bag. Youâve never seen Jungkook look so worried and you hate that youâre the reason why. Itâs why you had lied to him in the first place because you knew he would do this. You start doing mental math in your head, wondering how long it would take to pay him off. You donât even know what the ballpark figure is because going to the doctor has always been out of the question for you. It shouldnât be too much, you hum. Except⌠it is.
Appendicitis. Thatâs what they say you have. Youâre going to need surgery they say, and you freeze.
âAre you sure?â
âYes maâam. There is no alternative.â
âWhat if I donât get the appendectomy done?â
âWell, then your appendix might rupture, and septicaemia might occur. Your body could go into septic shock and in the worst-case scenario, death may occur.â
âOh⌠How much will it cost again?â
âAbout thirty-thousand dolââ
âThirty thousâ oh my god. Wait, can you give me a few minutes to think about it?â
âY/N, this is ridiculous!â Jungkook scolds. âJust get the surgery.â
âI donât have insurance,â You hiss.
You watch as the faces of the doctor and nurses pale. One of them scans your admission form and frowns at the address written on it, instantly recognizing your postcode.
âPerhaps you would like to transfer to a different hospital then? North Court Hospital just a few minutes from here is a hospital that suits your⌠kind better.â
Itâs not really a question, the way the nurse had said it. It was more like a statement and at that you nod meekly.
âY-yeah, I think weâll do thaââ
âItâs illegal for a hospital to refuse treatment to their patients,â Jungkook glowers. âHow dare youââ
âThe law does not apply to southerners.â
âJungkook,â You mumble, moving to climb out of the bed. âLetâs not make this a bigger deal than itââ
âThis is insane. You know thereâs a possibility of death if you donât treat her and youâre refusing to do so because of where sheâs from?â Jungkook growls, fists clenched. âWhat kind of doctor are you?â
The doctor snorts, shaking his head.
âListen here, scum. Iâd watch that tone if I were you,â He cautions. âAll you Southies with your fucking attitude. The fact that any of you think you even deserve our time at all is simply nauseating.â
Jungkook has his fists clenched, his jaw taut and you panic, not wanting to cause any more of a scene than this whole debacle already has.
âNo, you listen here, asshole,â Jungkook warns and you tug at his arm to get him to stop but he ignores you. âIâll be paying for the surgery in full right after itâs over so donât worry about that. Heck, you can have my credit card right now,â He snaps, digging his card out of his wallet to show it.
Jungkook pulling out his sleek, matte black credit card is almost like something out of a movie and you have to stifle a laugh at the sight. When the nurse reaches out to inspect it, you watch as his face crumples in fear after seeing the name printed on it. One by one, instant regret sweeps across each of their faces and itâs a sight to behold, one you donât think youâll ever forget.
âAh, Mr. Jeon⌠i-it seems like there has been a uhh misunderstanding,â The doctor mumbles before clearing his throat. âWe will attend to her right away.â
âGood,â He hums.
âWe will be back to prepare you for the surgery in a second, miss,â One of the nurses addresses you and you nod.
When they leave the room, you laugh despite the pain in your abdomen and Jungkook scowls. You give him three slow claps, shaking your head as if you had seen an Oscar worthy performance.
âThat was impressive,â You smile. âDid you see their faces when they saw you pull out your all black limitless card? And then when they saw your name, they looked like they were just about to piss themselves,â You snort, laughing.
âWell, serves them right,â He huffs. âAbsolute dickwads.â
âYou donât think the doctor will âaccidentallyâ mess up the surgery and kill me on the table as revenge, do you?â
âDonât joke like that,â Jungkook frowns and you simply laugh.
âHey, Jungkook,â You mumble. âI know you got all pissed because of what he was saying to you and in the heat of the moment you said you would pay but⌠itâs thirty thousand dollars and if you uhh regret what you saidââ
âY/N, youâre getting the surgery. Thatâs final.â
âO-okay⌠but Iâll pay you back! By instalmentsâŚâ You mumble. âItâll take a while, but I promiseââ
âYou remember our deal, right? Iâm supposed to pay for everything when weâre together.â
âYes, but thatâs different. Thatâs only when weâre out having a meal or whatever.â
âNo, I never stipulated that in the contract.â
âWell, it doesnât have to be stipulated. Itâs common sense,â You sigh. âJungkook, itâs thirty thousand dollars. Itâs not chump change.â
Jungkook sighs fiddling with his phone for a second before he shows you his screen, the PDF of the contract pulled up with one sentence highlighted.
All expenses will be paid for by Jeon Jungkook when both parties are present during an arranged meet-up.
âYes, exactly my point! It has to be an arranged meet-up!â
âIt is an arranged meet-up,â He smiles. âI said weâre going to the doctorâs and you said yes.â
âI didnât say yes.â
âYou did,â He exhales. âIn the car I said, Iâll get you there okay? and you said, okay which is the equivalent of a yes. Thus, you agreed to this arranged meet-up.â
âJungkook, this is ridiculous. Iâm not going to let you pay.â
âYou know, you never listen to me,â He grumbles. âActually, you breach this very same rule every time you pay for donuts. So, this is payback.â
âThe donuts are worth peanuts compared to this! It doesnât even come close to a quarter of the bill!â You yell.
âWell, you can keep buying me donuts until you reach the equivalent amount then! Thatâs your installment plan.â
âItâll take years!â
âItâs either that or nothing at all.â
âFine,â You frown, and he smiles patting you on the head before he takes a seat on the chair next to your bed. âBut just so you know, this is absolutely ridiculous. This isnât a meet-up. Arenât the meet-ups supposed to be date-like activities? Thatâs what your contract says.â
âYes, this is a meet-up. Iâve always wanted to have a hospital date,â He smiles. âItâs romantic donât you think?â He grins, holding your hand in his.
âNow youâre just teasing me,â You grumble, pulling your hand out of his as you sulk. Jungkook simply laughs, looking at you with an endearing smile.
While you scowl at him, the nurses shuffle in to prepare you for the surgery and Jungkook is called out to the counter to address issues with the admission form.
âThe patient did not list an emergency contact. Do you know anyone she would like to list? Perhaps her parents or siblings?â
âUmm, Iâll ask her in a moment but for now Iâll just list myself as one of the contacts.â
The nurse nods, handing Jungkook a pen to fill up the section of the form. After filling the details, he gazes at the form looking through the information.
First Name: Y/N
Last Name: Lee
Huh, so thatâs your last name⌠Youâve always avoided telling him what it was, always hiding your identity card from him which heâs always found a little suspicious. You had said that the picture you had on your card was horrible and that your last name was embarrassing, that it didnât suit you and he never understood what that could possibly mean. What was wrong with the name Lee anyway?
âExcuse me,â Jungkook mumbles, addressing the nurse behind the counter. âIs Lee her official last name?â He asks.
âYes, the last name given matches the last name on the identity card database,â The nurse answers. âIs there a problem?â
âNo, no,â He shakes his head. âIâm just double checking,â He mumbles before he says his thanks and returns to the room.
When Jungkook slips into the room, youâre nodding at the nurses while they tell you that they will be back shortly. As he steps closer to you, he realizes you look visibly shaken and he begins to worry.
âWhatâs wrong? Did they hurt you? Did they do something to you?â
âNo, itâs not that, itâsââ
âOh, is it the drip?â He says after noticing the tube connected to you. âThis is just the way they administer the anaesthesia.â
âNo, I mean this is fine, b-but they did something alright.â
âWhat?â
âTh-they shaved me,â You mumble.
âShaved you?â
âShaved my pubes,â You whisper. âDo you think they did it just to make me uncomfortable?â
âWhat? No,â He laughs. âItâs just standard practice I guess because the incision point is close to the area.â
âOh, okay,â You murmur. âIâve never had to do this before okay? Iâve never been to a hospital, Iâve never seen a real doctor. Iâm just a little⌠nervous.â
âHey, Iâm right here,â Jungkook smiles. âYouâve got nothing to worry about.â
âYouâre here,â You nod, repeating after him and Jungkook finds it oddly adorable.
âOh, um by the way the nurse asked about your emergency contact section. Do you want to put anyone on there?â
âNoâŚâ
âYou sure? Maybe you could put your mumâs details down. Just in case anything happens.â
âNo, I uhh donât want to trouble her.â
âOkay, what about your dad?â
Itâs a question he asks for selfish reasons. Itâs just that youâve only ever mentioned him in passing... and perhaps thatâs because you donât have very fond memories of him, he assumes.
âNo, no no. Itâs fine.â
âAlright⌠you sure? You donât want anyone on there? Not even Wendy?â
âI mean⌠itâs a relatively safe procedure, right? Nothingâs going to happen so just leave it blank. I donât want to trouble anyone.â
âWell, yeah, but every surgery comes with a risk⌠even if itâs a small one. Anyway, itâs fine. I put my name down,â He smiles. âIâll be here though so it doesnât really matter,â He laughs, sinking down onto the chair.
âNo, you should go. Itâs late and you have to work tomorrow.â
âItâs fine. Itâll be quick anyway⌠Plus I did say I would pay right after the surgery.â
âIâm sure they wonât mind you paying tomorrow since youâre the Jeon Jungkook after all,â You snort. âWhy didnât you use that line? The âdo you even know who I am?â line. It was the perfect chance!â
âI hate that line,â He scrunches his nose. âI donât really like flaunting my name and well⌠the power that comes with it, but they were being really shitty.â
âYou know I always assumed you had celebrity status in the North. That people would instantly recognise you and bow at you or whatever.â
âNo,â He chuckles. âIâm rarely in the news or magazines. My mother has always made sure of that.â
âI guess thatâs nice then that you have that anonymity to a certain extent.â
âYeah, on a day to day basis I guess but if weâre at some high flung gala or event, they almost always know who I am.â
You nod, feeling a little light-headed.
âThis thingâs really getting to me,â You mumble, pointing at the drip bag.
âYeah? Donât worry, it just means theyâll be wheeling you in soon enough.â
âIâm actually⌠a little scared,â You admit. âI-I wonât feel anything, right?â
âWow, youâre okay with gangs, being held at knife point and all of that but youâre scared of this?â
âShut up,â You mumble.
You donât tell him but yes, both doctors and surgeries scare you. Always did ever since you were a kid. It was never really a pretty sight whenever you saw a doctor in your home... and the screaming... you shudder every time you think about it.
âIâm here, you big baby. Donât worry, itâs going to be fine,â He smiles, holding your hand. You hum at that squeezing his hand in return.
Holding your hand shouldnât be a big deal. The gesture after all is meant to reassure you that you had nothing to worry about. Itâs platonic, with no other meaning tied to it but the only thing Jungkook can think of is how naturally your hand fits in his. Of course, itâs technically all in his head because he wouldnât be able to pick out your hand in a blindfolded test but⌠it just felt nice. He looks down to where your hands are linked, cherishing the moment when he sees something on your wrist that piques his interest.
Three small dots.
They form a triangle andâ oh, your former gang! The Trinity! Jungkook smiles, patting himself on the back mentally because isnât he a genius for figuring that one out? Itâs odd though⌠didnât you say the official insignia for your gang was a triangle? Why would you get only 3 dots and why would you hide it from him? Heâs never seen it before, heâs pretty sure, but you did have a habit of rubbing your thumb over that spot from time to time. Well, that and tugging at your earlobes whenever you were nervous. It feels like his mind is playing tricks on him because heâs very sure that the tattoo wasnât there the last time he saw you. Heâs not obsessed with your wrist or anything, but heâs seen you rub at that same spot before, many times over and there was always nothing. It was a nervous tic you had, one he had always meant to ask about. Itâs a question he would have to reserve for next time because soon enough the nurses are wheeling you off to the operation room. You simply turn to wave at him, smiling as you said see you later. The anaesthesia surely had gotten to you by then. There wasnât an ounce of fear on your face.
When you awake, thereâs a dull ache in your abdomen area but itâs much better than what you had been feeling just a few hours ago. You peek under your gown to find a dressing pad taped to the area and you sigh, wondering if the scar would be noticeable. Turning to your side, you find the chair empty, but you see a little note on your bedside table with a teddy bear next to it.
Y/N,
I waited a while but it didnât seem like you were going to wake up anytime soon. The doctor says the surgery went well and that you can leave tomorrow. I have an early meeting to get to, so Iâve gone home to get some shut eye. Iâm sorry ):Â Iâll come pick you up after my meeting though! In the meantime, your new friend which I got at the gift store downstairs can keep you company.
P.S: press his hand for some relaxing tunes
You reach for the teddy bear, pressing the paw thatâs painted bright red with the words Press Me! stitched onto it. You click on the paw, waiting to hear something but all you hear is static before a Oh, wait... is this thing on already? Crap. You laugh, shaking your head but then you hear the instrumental playing in the background, and you laugh even harder. Soon enough, the classic melody starts playing and youâre snorting to yourself in your bed. Of course of all songs, he had chosen a meme song.
Shooting Stars is a song you and Jungkook had first heard in Mr. Kangâs donut store. It had been perhaps the fourth visit to the store. You remember the both of you standing in the middle of the store trying to search up the song because it had such a catchy tune. After saving the details of the song on your phone, like the free spirit that you are, you break out into a tiny dance, prompting Mr. Kang to join you from behind the counter and he obliges, laughing as Jungkook recorded all of it. You still have to get him to delete that, you laugh. Anyway, weeks later, you started seeing these hilarious meme videos with the tune playing in the background. Then, while youâre catching up with Jungkook over donuts, he shows you a compilation video of the meme and says: Isnât this our song??? And so thatâs what the song is. Our song, you hum. Of course only you and Jungkook would pick a meme song to be the soundtrack of your friendship.
The nurse must think youâre out of your mind because sheâs giving you a look that borders on fear and disgust as she watches you sing along to the song playing from the bear. You debate explaining to her why youâre laughing at a mere song but you decide against it. Though patients are usually advised to stay overnight, she gives you the all clear to leave when you ask. Considering Jungkook has already paid for everything and was no longer in the vicinity, they didnât have to be nice to you anymore. Youâre unbothered though and you say your thanks before you simply slip back into your clothes and grab a cab back to your place.
You see Jungkook later that night and heâs obviously angry at you⌠that you already know because he called you in the midday after getting to the hospital only to find out that youâve already left. You had a game plan though. You make him meet you at his favourite noodle store and after a bowl of rich curry noodles, he seems to have calmed down considerably⌠or perhaps he was just too busy sweating, gulping down his drink in an attempt to quell the fire that the curry had left behind in his mouth. Next, when you get to the donut store, you make sure to buy more of the custard filled donuts than usual but ah, you shouldâve known that unlike you, Jungkook canât be bought with food.
âWhy did you go to work today? Why didnât you just rest?â He questions.
âI-I didnât go to workâŚâ
âYou did. I could hear your walkie-talkie going off in the background when I called you, Y/N.â
âOkay, fine, I did,â You grumble. âI already missed two days of work, okay? I canât afford to miss any more.â
âI-Is it the money? I already told you I can help, Y/N,â Jungkook sighs. âYou have to stop returning the excess money,â He frowns.
Jungkook has been trying to pay you more than he should be and it frustrates you. You only want what he had agreed to pay you. Sometimes, you find that he pays you double, even triple the amount and no matter how tempting it is to take the money⌠you always return it, hiding it in the glove box, under the seat, stuffing it back into his wallet when heâs in the washroom.
âI donât want⌠handouts.â
âAre you really in the position to refuse it though? If you keep working like this, youâre going toââ
âIâll make it work,â You huff. âI⌠I donât want to hear any more about this, okay?â
âFine,â He huffs. âJust know that all you have to do is ask.â
Jungkook is too nice for his own good. He trusts you far too much. Heâs naĂŻve. With the way that he is, he would end up donating his fortune away if he stopped to talk to everyone in the South. Everyone here had what someone would call a sob story. Why did he want to help you so badly, anyway? Didnât he think it was odd that it was hard for you to make ends meet even with two jobs and the money you get from being his sugar baby?
âBy the way,â Jungkook mumbles, softly pulling your hand towards him. He frowns when he looks at your wrist to find it blank. âI swear it was on this one,â He murmurs as he grabs your other hand, twisting it to find nothing there too.
âOh, you mean my tattoo?â
âY-yeah. You have one, right? I saw it at the hospital, and I thought I was hallucinating.â
âItâs here,â You smile pointing at your inner right wrist and Jungkook furrows his eyebrows because thereâs nothing there. âI use make-up to cover it up.â
âWhy?â
âHabit, I guess,â You shrug. âItâs a gang-related thing and you know how it is in the North. I hid it when I was in college because I didnât want to freak people out⌠and well, I donât really have a reason to hide it anymore but itâs just a habit now.â
âBut, no one in the North actually knows much about the gangs. Iâm sure they wouldâve thought it was some minimalist tattoo you decided to get.â
âI guess,â You exhale, sighing. âI was just a little paranoid about it all, I guess. Didnât want anything that would make me stand out or whatever.â
âWhy three dots instead of a triangle though?â
âHmm?â
âYou said The Trinityâs insignia was a triangle.â
âOh, r-right,â You hum. âWell, I didnât want a tattoo at all to begin with and Iâm a bit of a baby when it comes to needles, so they let me get away with three dots.â
âYou have the weirdest fears,â Jungkook laughs. âI mean, theyâre valid, but like in comparison to all the things youâve seen⌠I just find it weird that youâre afraid of needles but not guns and knives.â
âWhat can I say? I like being unique,â You smile, thumb rubbing at your inner wrist.
The short well⌠interrogation that Jungkook had subjected you to has you feeling nervous. Itâs over now but youâre surprised by how much he actually remembers. All those stories you told, you had thought he was barely listening, but he remembers all the little details. You shouldnât be surprised, heâs done it quite a few times, mentioning random facts that you had said in passing and yet, it catches you off guard every time. Itâs okay, you mumble. You had it under control. All your stories are in line, you had made sure of that. But, isnât it time you start letting people in? How long can you go on keeping all these secrets? Those were questions you didnât want to answer. Your heart is still thudding against your chest, palms slightly sweaty and maybe thatâs why you say what you do next.
âYou want to get a drink? You said you wanted to know how we live it up in the South.â
âDo you think thatâs a good idea? I mean you just got out of surgery⌠yestâ well technically, today.â
âGuess youâll have to drink for two then,â You smile. âCome on, itâll be fun!â
You donât even let him answer as you stuff the last donut in your mouth before you take him by the hand and drag him down the street.
One drink. You said you only wanted one drink and turns out one is all that you need. Wendy wasnt joking because you really are a light-weight. All it took was one soju bomb and that pout has already appeared. Itâs the same one you had on at the bar when you begged him to buy shots. Itâs the same one that almost made him cave even when he knew you were way past drunk. Itâs just⌠how could he say no to that? You whine, pout on full display as you beg him to share a scallion pancake with you. He has his phone out to record the whole ordeal and you grumble, pawing at it so that he would put it away. Although he doesnât give you a verbal yes, you order it anyway because the tipsy version of you seems to be more perceptive than the sober version of you. Tipsy you had Jungkook all figured out it seems. Tipsy you knows that Jungkook canât really say no to you. He laughs, reaching over to ruffle your hair as you smile up at him.
How Jungkookâs never been here is honestly a wonder but then again is it really? You had walked him through a series of dodgy alleyways only to come to a mysterious door. It was like those speakeasy bars they had in the North but instead of a fake door front, the actual entrance to the bar was just ominous looking for no reason. It wasnât for the aesthetics; the bar owner just couldnât be bothered to put in the money to make it look inviting.
After stepping into the bar, the two of you had been greeted by an elder man seemingly unbothered, only giving a simple grunt which Jungkook assumed mustâve been his way of saying welcome. The place was poorly lit, paint was peeling off the walls but you didnât seem bothered one bit. In fact, you seemed rather excited. The establishment resembled what Jungkook would think a brothel would look like with private rooms separated only by screen doors. Truth be told, he was trembling a little when the staff led both you and him down the dark hallway to your own room. You had laughed at the fear that was present on Jungkookâs features but you had reassured him that the food would change his mind. And that it did. Spicy rice cakes with ramen? A combo he hadnât tried before but boy was he glad he did. As the food started to fill up the table, so did the drinks. Youâd set up these drinks for him, making him slam his fists on the table so that his soju glass, delicately balanced on a pair of chopsticks atop his glass of beer, would fall in. It seemed like you never ran out of these intricate set ups and he was in awe with how the North hadnât discovered any of this yet. You northerners are too busy being posh that youâve forgotten how to have fun, you had said, and he had only sneered in response because well, to some extent, that was true.
It had been quite some time since Jungkook had enjoyed the prospect of drinking. It was odd that he was having so much fun when there was only you and him in the room. He was always under the impression that he needed a large group of friends for a night of drinking to be even remotely tolerable but you, youâre a one man show. From the fancy drinks you were making him, to the odd games you make him to play, to your choice of food, he didnât need anyone but you in the room. You move from one topic to the next with ease and he wonders why nights out with his friends couldnât be like this. Perhaps when itâs just him, Yoongi and Taehyung having a relaxing night out, it came close to this, but otherwise, there was nothing like it.
You barely need Jungkookâs help to finish the scallion pancake. In fact, the boy only had one piece. The food at this bar is your kryptonite⌠well, food in general is but itâs been far too long since youâve been to this place. You and Wendy used to frequent this place so much that you could memorize the posters hanging inside each room. Theyâre still the same, you note. This bar is timeless, never-changing. Even the menu was exactly the same. You liked that though.
âWendy and I used to come here to celebrate anything and everything,â You smile. âWe havenât been here for months though.â
âWhy is that?â
âI donât know⌠Itâs harder to find time for these things when I have to work,â You mumble. âDo you have a place like this? Like your old haunt or whatever it is you posh northerners say.â
âLiterally no one says that in the North,â Jungkook snorts, his speech slightly slurred from all the alcohol heâs drank. âBut⌠yeah, I guess. Yoongi, Tae and I hang out at Taeâs place all the time. He has an insane view of the city from his penthouse and thereâs this amazing takeout place just across, so we always get food from there.â
âCute,â You smile. âThe three of you are inseparable.â
âYeah, I guess itâs becauseâ and I know how elitist this is going to sound but, itâs because itâs hard to find people who can understand our plight,â He mumbles, and you let out a quiet laugh which garners a playful scowl from him. âThereâs just so much pressure in being you know⌠us. Weâre always being watched, being judged, so itâs nice to have each other because when weâre together, we donât really have to worry about all of that. We can bitch about whatever we want without worrying that weâre flaunting or whatever.â
âYeah, I get that. Even if I guess I donât understand your plight,â You say with air quotes and he simply rolls his eyes at you. âItâs nice to have friends that you grew up with and struggled with. Friends you can always count on.â
He nods at that. âWell Iâm sure you had friends like that growing up. None of them moved out here to the big city?â
âOh, I never stayed in one place long enough to have friends like that,â You laugh. âI have Wendy though. Sheâs like family to me,â You smile. Although, there are many things that youâve kept from her too. Perhaps you understand what Jungkook meant to some degree because your plight is one nobody would understand.
âFamily. Thatâs sweet,â He murmurs, resting his head in his palm, arm propped up by his elbow. âSo what about me then? What am I to you?â He questions, leaning closer, his cheeks tinged red from the alcohol. Jungkook surely has had a few too many glasses of soju, you snort to yourself.
âHmm?â He hums again, prompting you to answer his question and you lick your lips.
The question had caught you off guard and you hesitate for a second, not knowing what to say. You know Jungkook is enjoying this, the smirk on his lips tells you as much but oh, two can play this game.
âHmm⌠you? Well, weâre soulmates, arenât we?â You answer easily. âI thought you knew this already,â You continue with an expression thatâs blank and cool, as if youâre simply stating a fact. The statement leaves Jungkook stunned, his eyes wide because youâve never said it yourself first but then he sees you smile, trying hard not to laugh.
âMy, you looked worried there,â You grin, devilishly so. âYouâre the one that gave us the title though.â
Jungkook scowls at you, picking up some leftover lettuce on the table to throw at you.
âI just needed time to process what you were saying. I had a long day,â He mumbles, watching you pick up the lettuce stuck to your shirt. âBut, yes, weâre soulmates,â He nods, laughing lightly as he attempts to dodge the same soggy vegetable that youâre trying to throw back at him.
âOnly the rich would ever disrespect food like this,â You huff, shaking your head disapprovingly as you place the lettuce on your plate.
âYeah, yeah, says the one who was trying to toss it right back at me.â
âYou know youâre lucky youâre rich and cute so, Iâm just going to let that one slip,â You huff, standing up to open the screen door. âAnyway, letâs go? I have to be at the port at 5 and I want at least 5 hours of sleep.â
âS-sure.â
Cute? How is it that you always say things like that so nonchalantly? Unfair, utterly unfair.
Jungkook mustâve been standing there in the middle of the hallway, looking all dazed and unsure which you probably mistook for fear because youâre storming up to him, holding him by his hand to lead him to the exit.
âItâs not that scary, you big baby,â You laugh. âWeâve been in far scarier situations.â
He only hums, letting you tug him along because wow, your hand is so warm and⌠nice. Heâs held your hand 3 times now in the last 24 hours. He likes that. Was it weird to keep count? When did he become this soft? Doesnât matter⌠itâs not like youâll ever know about it. Damn. He shouldnât have let you order that many bottles of soju. He didnât think you were serious about making him drink for two.
Jungkookâs pretty much in his own world, lost in his thoughts until he feels your hand slip away from his to dig into your purse.
âWait, no,â Jungkook frowns. âIâm supposed to pay.â
âPlease, I owe you thirty thousand dollars. Let me pay.â
âNo. We agreed youâll only be paying with donuts.â
âJungkookââ
The elderly man at the counter lets out an annoyed grunt and you apologize, hastily grabbing notes out of your wallet to place on the counter. Jungkook swipes it the moment you put it down, replacing it with his money instead and you frown.
âLet me pay,â You whine as you attempt to snatch your cash away from him but, itâs too late. Jungkook is already pocketing his change.
âDonuts only,â He grunts, placing your cash and wallet back into your purse for you before he grabs your hand and leads you out the door.
âYouâre so stubborn when youâre drunk,â You huff.
âYouâre stubborn,â He grumbles in return. âAlso, Iâm not drunk... Just slightly light-headed.â
âYouâre tripping over your feet like every 5 steps.â
âThatâs because youâre walking so fast,â He frowns as he attempts to get you to slow down.
âI donât know maybe itâs because I donât want to get shanked in this alleyway.â
The sentence makes Jungkook jump slightly and he walks faster to match your pace. You laugh at that because the boy was far too gullible. Maybe all your stories about the South had made the place seem a lot scarier than it really is.
âIâm just joking,â You laugh, squeezing his hand. âThis areaâs pretty alright.â
âI hate when you do that,â He frowns. You only smile in return because it was fun to tease him.
âBy the way, youâre such a liar,â You say. âIf youâre already this tipsy from just a few soju bombs, I highly doubt you can down 10 tequila shots in a row and still be standing.â
âI can and Iâll show you. Name the time and place.â
âWow, no need to get defensive now,â You laugh. âYou justââ
âShit,â Jungkook mumbles as he stands in front of his car.
âWhat?â You query, looking at the vehicle. All the tires were still there, so were his mirrors.
âI canât drive.â
âWell, okay you didnât have that much to drink. Youâll be below the 0.08%... maybe... anyway Iâm sure the cops will let you pass,â You mumble. Paying off the cops to get out of a DUI is nothing new. In fact itâs the norm. âYou can stillââ
âNo, I canât do it,â He mumbles. âMy fathâ No⌠Iâll just sit here until I sober up,â He hums, taking a seat on the curb.
Oh⌠Oh right. How could you have even suggested that? Idiot. Youâre a bona fide idiot.
You remember seeing the news. You were still young then, but it was all anyone was talking about.
Weâre standing at the spot where just last night a car veered off the road and plunged into the river right here in the province ofâ

As Jungkook attended the funeral of his father that week, you attended a funeral too, your eyes swollen from crying even days after the accident. Just as his world fell apart that week, so did yours. That was the week your mother had decided enough was enough.
âI can drive,â You offer. âThe last drink I had was more than 2 hours ago.â
âItâs fine⌠Youâll have to come back to the South andââ
âCome on,â You mumble, swiping the keys out of his hand. âOr Iâll just leave without you.â
Jungkook sighs, scrambling to his feet when he hears you start the engine.
The drive is quiet aside from Jungkook giving you directions from time to time and you feel⌠bad because heâs only this quiet because of you.
Jungkook has never once mentioned his father, even if he probably knows that you know the story. There probably isnât anyone who didnât know about it. For 2 whole weeks, his fatherâs face was plastered in the newspaper, in TV screens. The police bounced back between claiming there might be foul play involved, to ruling it out completely. There were rumours of tampered evidence and then there was confirmation that the evidence has been left untouched. Everyone was watching, the whole nation wanting to know the series of events that led to the accident. It was anti-climatic in the end. The road had been wet from an earlier downpour. That, coupled with the fact that the driver had some alcohol, had probably led to the accident, said the investigators. Case closed.
He had been so young then and you cannot imagine what it mustâve felt like to lose a parent and have to deal with the media constantly scrutinizing everything. He probably didnât get time to grieve and if he did, it was on display for the whole public to see. You mean to say sorry, sorry that you made him inadvertently bring it up but youâre not sure if you should mention it at all. In any case, you run out of time because youâre already pulling into his parking bay.
âWow,â You gasp as you stand at the lift lobby. The floors and walls were lined with marble tiles and you smooth your hand over the surface. âThis place is really fancy.â
âYou should see Taeâs place,â Jungkook laughs.
âDo you live on the penthouse floor too?â
âYeah.â
âAh, of course you do.â
âWhy? Do you want to see it?â
âC-can I? I mean Iâd love to only if you umm donât mind⌠I guess.â
âOf course you can,â He chuckles. âIâll call concierge to get you a taxi from the unit too.â
Concierge? Wow. So this is how the rich live.
Everything about the place screamed fancy. From the lobby, to the lift and of course Jungkookâs unit itself. Everything was opulent, grandeur. Well, to be fair Jungkookâs unit was a little on the minimalistic side but it still looked expensive. You think it had a lot to do with the grand piano sitting in the middle of the living room. Either way, itâs been a while since youâve seen anything like Jungkookâs house. The only thing that could come close were the houses the gang bosses lived in.
âThe view is amazing,â You breathe, nose almost touching the large glass window. Youâve always seen the city from the South and itâs stunning even from there but this was a different kind of view. You donât think youâve been in a building so tall. It was odd seeing the city from within the city.
âTaehyungâs view must be crazy good if all of you choose to hang out in his place over yours.â
âOh, itâs about the same,â He smiles. âHe lives over there,â Jungkook points to an equally as tall building. âBut he loves having guests over and I donât⌠well not anymore.â
âWhy not?â
âI donât know,â He sighs. âSometimes things get out of hand⌠Like you see this car collection I haveââ He pulls you towards a room, his room you assume, and shows you a fancy looking large glass case.
You had expected those all metal, collectorâs edition cars but inside the case, you just find multiple average looking tiny toy cars. In fact, you think you used to own a few of them. They had given them out for a limited time at the gas station as part of a promotion.
âYeah, yeah. Everyone gives me the same look,â He grumbles, noting your confused expression. âItâs just my dad and I used to collect them and weâ well, I had all 100 of them⌠until I didnât.â
Jungkook had thrown a party a year ago. First it was a few friends but then those friends started inviting their friends and suddenly it was a full on rager. It was all fine and dandy. Jungkook didnât mind as long as it was still in control, but then he would constantly hear amused cheering from his room and then distant shouting from the streets below. Weird. He ignored it the first few times but after the third time, he slips away from the couch to his room to see what the commotion was about. 5 minutes and a screaming match later, his apartment was empty. Yoongi and Taehyung had never seen Jungkook so angry before and itâs safe to say they never want to ever see him that angry again.
He had 100 cars in the glass case prior to the party and after that, he was only left with 95. Apparently, whoever was in his room had thought it would be a grand idea to toss his toy car 20+ stories down. In fact, they found the idea to be so entertaining, they did it 5 times. After that fiasco, Jungkook swore heâd never have a party in his home ever again and a year later, he still hasnât. He had scoured the streets that very night and the morning after for the toys, but he couldnât find any of them.
âI managed to find 4 of them⌠some online, some in thrift stores but this one,â He points to the empty spot, a simple picture of the supposed car in its place. âI just canât find it anywhere.â
âHave you tried emailing the company that made them?â
âYeah,â He sighs. âBut they stopped making them a long time ago so they said they couldnât help.â
âWell, Iâm sure youâll eventually find it somewhere, someday,â You smile. âThis is a nice room though,â You mumble, looking around.
âYeah itâs my room so itâs the only one I put effort into decorating,â He laughs. âThe rest of the rooms, my mother insisted on decorating.â
âYeah, I can tell you decorated this one. Thatâs why this is here and not out there,â You smile, pointing to the TV. âItâs how you impress the ladies, huh?â
âW-what? No? I like to game and watch things from the comfort of my bed.â
âYeah, sure,â You snort. âThis right here screams premium Netflix and châ Wait. Oh my god, this is amazing,â You hum, as you sit on the bed, testing it out. Maybe you shouldâve asked first but youâre lying down on it already. âWow. If Iâm ever rich, this will be the first thing Iâll purchase.â
âYou canât. Itâs custom made,â He smirks, lying next to you.
âOf course it is,â You shake your head. âI expect nothing less for his majesty.â
âShut up. I have long legs and the commercial beds, when they come in the right length, itâs the wrong width, so I got a custom-made one.â
âWhatever you say,â You sigh as you snuggle against his sheets. âAnyway, just give me 5 minutes right here and Iâll go grab that cab.â
âRight, sure,â He mumbles. âOh... about that. Thanks for driving me home. Itâsâ I just have this irrational fear becauseâ Well, my father⌠I uhhââ
âDonât worry about it,â You smile, patting his hand as if to say he didnât have to tell you why exactly he didnât want to drive. âItâs not every day I get to drive a Lambo around anyway,â You smile.
âThatâs the only reason you agreed, isnât it?â He grins, laughing lightly.
âHey, watch it,â You warn. âNext time, Iâll leave you out there in the scary South to fend for yourself.â
âIâll do just fine.â
âYouâre afraid of stray dogs and you jump at any and every noise you hear. I doubt youâll last 10 minutes out there.â
âI do not jump at every noise,â He grumbles. âAnd listen, everyone knows the dogs in the South have rabies, okay? Did you see the ones that chased us that one time? They were frothing in the mouth! Even had the crazy eyes.â
âThose were guard dogs⌠and we were trespassing which is why the chased us,â You laugh. âAlso, donât lie. If you were close enough to see their eyes, Iâm pretty sure you would be dead by now.â
âWhatevââ
His phone rings, cutting his sentence short. He points at you, raising his eyebrows as if to say he wasnât done arguing yet before he fishes his phone out of his pocket. Staring down at the caller ID, he groans before he answers. His voice sounds smooth, peppy, not a hint of annoyance despite how he seemed like he didnât want to answer the call. You glance at the clock on the wall as he slips out of the room, not wanting you to hear about the intricacies of his business deals, you assume. It was already half past twelve and you wonder if this is what itâs always like for Jungkook considering that he has taken a few calls here and there when the two of you are having late-night donuts. The calls seem to be a more frequent thing as of late and you pity him because you can see the tiredness in his eyes, you can see fatigue in the way his whole body sags when he gets to the bench at your hangout spot. For some reason, it seemed like he was coming to the South to escape but he could never really run from it all, could he? Everyone thinks his life is all roses, but you know itâs far from it. They think he sits in the office with his feet up on the desk, waiting for time to pass but it seems like he never really does get rest. He always has something on his mind, always asking you if he could optimize the truck routes, if he could organize his warehouse space better. You wonder if you should take him to a karaoke lounge the next time the two of you hang out. Screaming out the lyrics to your favourite songs always helps you forget your problems.
Itâs been 15 minutes and the call is still going. You really want to leave but you assume it would be rude to when heâs still on the phone. You sigh, letting your eyes flutter close because god, this bed is so nice. It felt like you were being caressed by a cloud. Itâs so soft you almost forget the dull ache in your abdomen. It sounds outlandish, like an over exaggeration but it genuinely felt that way. Maybe you only think so because the bed you have back home is lumpy and hard. Humming, you let your hand slide across his sheets, the material feeling soft to your touch. Itâs Egyptian cotton isnât it? Not that you actually know what that means but you know itâs expensive. You donât know the slightest thing about thread count either but youâre sure itâs high. You know that one. You knew after a certain number, the price was just ridiculous. You find yourself dozing off a few times but you always snap out of it, only to shut your eyes again. 5 minutes, you mumble to yourself. Just five more minutes and youâre leaving... even if Jungkook isnât done with his call by then.
Jungkook sighs, pocketing his phone after what feels like an eternity. Mr. An was basically slurring on the phone, asking why his promised shipment of timber has yet to be delivered. Jungkook had to reiterate 5 times that it already has, that Mr. Anâs staff had already signed off on it. Only then did Mr. An say, why didnât you say that earlier? Jungkook knew it was odd that his grandfather had given him such an important client to take care of. Itâs now that he realizes that his grandfather was tired of these drunken calls.
When he returns to his room, Jungkook is fully determined to continue the argument, picking right where he left off but he finds you completely passed out on his bed. He prods at you, trying to shake you awake because he knows youâll be mad at him if he didnât at least try but like the last time when you were asleep in his car, youâre impossible to wake up.
âCab,â You mumble in your sleep, accompanied with a slew of gibberish.
âYeah, come on, Iâll get you one,â Jungkook answers as he tries to wake you up, but you grumble curling into yourself, instead. He laughs before sighing, shaking his head because you even scowl in your sleep. Unconsciously, he uses the back of his hand to stroke your cheek, your features instantly relaxing at the gesture. He feels his heart squeeze at that and he knows he shouldnât be here, shouldnât be lying next to you but it feels nice, safe even being right here.
He doesnât blame you for falling asleep. You must be exhausted. You had been in the hospital less than 24 hours ago, had your appendix removed and even went to work just hours after. He really wishes you would reward yourself with a break once in a while. If you needed money so badly, why wonât you just let him help you? He had given you a big cheque for a few thousand before, but you had refused that. He has snuck a few extra hundred into the envelope he passes you every week or so but he eventually finds the extra bills in his pocket or car. Anyone in your situation with their head screwed on right would take the money but you⌠you just didnât want to. The fact that you let him pay for your surgery at all is a surprise but truthfully, he strong-armed you into letting him anyway. He absolutely abhorred how they treated you at the hospital. It was a look into the reality of your situation, of Southerners in general. How people had so much hate was beyond him.
He exhales, letting his hand drop from your cheeks to play with your fingers instead because damn it, he loves the way your hand feels in his. Itâs pathetic, he sighs but⌠he really likes the little things in relationships. The hand holding, the sneaky kiss on the cheek, the feeling of you in his arms. Well, not that the two of you were in a relationship anyway. He has to keep reminding himself of that. Itâs hard to keep that train of thought, especially so when your fingers grip around his softly. He smiles at that, a warmth spreading across his chest when he glances down at his hand, barely enveloped by yours. Against his better judgement, he leans in to kiss you on the forehead, letting his lips linger before he pulls away slowly. He doesnât want to leave, not yet at least. He doesnât want to pull his hand away from yours but knowing you, youâd probably have a heart attack, maybe even two if you saw him next to you in the morning. He wonders what thatâs like though... waking up next to you, your hands wrapped around him like the last time, him leaning in to kiss your liâ Oh. He shouldnât be thinking of that. But... still, he wonders, wonders how he even got to this point.
Y/N Lee.
Who wouldâve thought a girl he met by chance, in the oddest of places would have him wrapped around her little finger like he was a grade school boy, totally enamoured by his first ever crush. Itâs quite the pickle heâs found himself in because, now what? How is he supposed to tell you that all he really wants to do sometimes when youâre sitting on that bench with him is... kiss you? How is he supposed to fight the urge to hold your hand whenever youâre telling him a story with the widest smile on your lips. How does he make you see that even if you donât open yourself up to anyone at all, maybe... maybe heâs worth letting in. Thereâs just this warmth that envelops him when heâs around you and it feels comforting to be in your presence, like it was entirely alright to just be him. And that smile, god heâd do anything, say anything, to see it. Ah, but that pout too, it makes him weak in the knees, his heart reduced to a mere puddle whenever he sees it. He knows Yoongi and Taehyung would laugh if they ever found out about the thoughts that are currently swirling around in his mind but what could he say, heâs just a fool who hasnât met anyone quite like you before.
Time, he hums. In due time, heâll eventually tell you he likes you or maybe youâll figure it out, hopefully, because heâs not too good with words. With his finger on the switch and with one last glance, he flicks the lights off and shuts the door quietly. Sighing, he sinks down onto his couch, stretching out as sleepiness washes over him. With a yawn, he lets the thought of you curled up against his chest lull him to sleep. Boy, he really is in a pickle huh?
Your alarm is ringing for perhaps the third time... you canât really tell because itâs mixing in with the dream you have, playing in the background as if it were a soundtrack. Slowly, you peel your eyes open, reaching into your back pocket where you had left your phone last night. Your hands skim the sheets andâ
Shit.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
This isnât your room and this most definitely isnât your bed. You panic as you rise to your feet, quickly grabbing your purse off the table side before you pull open the door. The ruckus you made in his room causes Jungkook to rise sleepily from his spot on the couch. Youâre shouting words of apologies, fully intending to make clear how sorry you are but when your eyes dart to the fancy digital clock display, you almost let out a scream. Youâre going to be so late for work and given your recent attendance record at work, your boss is not going to be happy.
âIâm so sorry! Iâll call you later to apologize properly!â Is all Jungkook hears you say before you slam his door shut. He can barely keep his eyes open since it is 3 in the morning after all. Thatâs far too early for anyone to be awake, he mumbles.
Youâre practically pacing up and down the sidewalk, trying to stay under the dim streetlight as you wait for your cab. Your boss didnât seem too happy when you called in to let him know youâll be a little late today. That was a problem you would atone for once you get to the port. As for the other one⌠you know, the one where you fell asleep in Jungkookâs bed? Basically, relegating him to the couch in his own home? After he had had paid thirty-thousand dollars for your surgery? You didnât know how you were going to atone for that one. Youâre not sure heâd even pick up your call later. Youâre so busy beating yourself up you barely register the sight of a hooded man standing a few steps away from you. Itâs only when he speaks that your head perks up, your body freezing in your spot when you hear those words leave his lips. Youâd recognize that voice anywhere, recognize that pet name anywhere.
âHello, Empress,â He smirks, pulling his hood up just so you could see his face. The scar starting just below his eye, stopping right at corner of his lip confirms your worst fear and you back away as he takes a step forward. âNow donât tell me you donât recognize me. I know itâs been a while but is that how you greet your family?â
You open your mouth to answer but your throat seizes up and nothing but a whimper leaves your lips. He lifts an eyebrow at you and your eyes widen before you move quickly to bow.Â
âFraternizing with the enemy, I see,â He exhales, head nodding towards Jungkookâs apartment. âBoss would be disappointed. Angry even.â
You havenât felt fear like this in years. You can barely move, canât even speak. Every nerve in your body is telling you to run but youâre glued to your spot.
âDonât worry,â He smiles. âI wonât tell if you wonât,â He winks.
âW-What do you want?â Is all you can muster to ask.
âOh, nothing in particular.â Yet. But of course he leaves that part out. âCanât I just see how my favourite niece is doing?â
âHow did you find me?â
Your question comes out as barely a whisper and at that he laughs. Ever so timid, his dear niece is.
âWell, I never really lost you in the first place. Never for too long at least,â He smiles, condescendingly so as he steps up to caress your cheek. âYou think you and your mum wouldâve been safe all this while if it wasnât for me?â
You donât want to show him any sign of weakness, but tears are already forming at the corner of your eyes. The sight makes him laugh because arenât you cute. It didnât matter how old you are now. Youâll always be a little baby in his eyes. He coos at you, wiping away the tears that fall as you struggle to move out of the grip he has on you.
âDonât worry, boss doesnât know... but, nice little province youâve chosen to hide her in. Enemy territory too...â He mumbles. âTook me a while to find her. Smart little nugget, arenât you?â
You can barely breathe. You thought your mother was safe. You had taken great care to make sure that she would never be found.
âWhy are you scared, Empress? If you think Iâm here to bring both you and her back, then youâre mistaken,â He smiles. âThere are more pressing matters that I have to deal with... though I must say, I wonder what boss would have to say if he ever saw the two of you again.â
âL-leave my mother alone. She has suffered enough,â You sob and he frowns, using his sleeve to soak up your tears.
âThat she has,â He murmurs. âChoices, choices. She had many to make and she made all the wrong ones,â He shakes his head.
âPlease. Spare us.âÂ
Youâre practically begging at this point because thereâs nothing else you can do. One phone call and life as you knew it would be over.
âFrom what?â He smiles. âAs far as I know, youâre Y/N... Lee. Not of my blood, neither of my interest,â He mumbles as he takes a step back, hand peculiarly grabbing for your arm as he twists it to look at your wrist.
âI can see youâve tried hard to erase your past. So, Y/N Lee it is,â He hums, frowning as his thumb rubs at the spot your tattoo should be and it is, but the make-up has done a good job of covering it. âCute little name, isnât it? L/N just wasnât working for you anymore huh?â
*Honk*
The sound makes you jump and you quickly pull your hand away to see a cab waiting for you. You glance from the cab to your uncle and he nods toward the cab, as if he was giving you the permission to go ahead. You didnât need to be told twice. Quickly, you run over, pulling at the door handle in a haste to escape.
âFarewell, Empress.â
Thatâs the last thing you hear before you shut the door. Your voice is shaking terribly as you tell the driver your address, unsure if any of it was intelligible but he lets out a grunt of assurance and you finally sink in your seat as he pulls away from the curb. With your hands shaking in your lap, you wonder how youâre going to make it through the work day today.
Your uncle laughs as he watches the cab leave, enjoying the look of pure fear on your face. Itâs been too long since heâs seen you up close. Heâs always been watching from the shadows, always close but not too close. He wonders if he had made himself known far too soon. It was the perfect opportunity though and he couldnât resist. When else would he ever get you all on your own with no one else in sight?
He whistles an old tune as he strides back to his car, perusing through the gallery on his beloved camera like he always does. There were so many pictures to choose from tonight. He had pictures of you and Jungkook at the noodle store, had a few more of the both of you at the bench, eating donuts. Though he must say, he has many of those already. Those werenât that interesting, he huffs clicking through the pictures before he smirks. See, now these ones were interesting. He has a few of you and Jungkook going to the bar you love so much and finally the saucy ones of you driving him home and subsequently leaving his house looking haphazard. My, my, now what couldâve happened there? Mrs. Jeon would surely love to see these.
Oh, his sweet niece. Gone are the days where he would seat you in his lap to play peek-a-boo with you. Gone are the days where he would be standing with you in your backyard, teaching you how to slice a throat with utmost precision. He didnât mean to involve you in this but no, things had unfurled too perfectly for him to ignore this chance. He wanted nothing from you, that much was true but itâs what you could do for him, what he would eventually make you do, that he wanted. Years of keeping tabs on you has finally come to fruition. What he once thought was a useless endeavour would prove to be one that would bring the entire gang to his knees.
Ah, Empress. You donât seem too fond of the title now, but like it or not, it is your destiny, he believes. You could try running, but in the end, you can never really escape. Itâs going to be the coup of the century and you are going to be the centre-piece that unlocks it all... and the best part about all of this? Well, you see he wouldnât even have to do any of the heavy lifting. You were going to do all the work while he sits back and reaps all the benefits. Ah, bliss. Boss wouldnât even see him coming. Nobody would. Chaos, he smiles. It was going to be pure chaos and he loved that.
Maybe then, everyone will see just how wrong they were. Maybe then, your mother would see what couldâve been.
You make it to work just barely under 20 minutes late. Your boss is furious, that much you know by the way he basically growls at you. Your side aches and maybe itâs because you ran to the port when the doctor had said to avoid any strenuous physical activity for a few months. Thatâs the least of your worries though and you struggle to stay focused most of the day. Your mind drifts back to your uncle, to the way he smirked when he talked about knowing where your mother is. You remind yourself to call her later from the payphone. Maybe you should move her somewhere else now. God, why is it that when one bad thing happens, your life tends to descend into chaos? Itâs almost as if you were getting punched from every direction possible. You guess your life always has been like that, like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.
Tick tock. Tick tock.
You can only run away from your past for so long.
Tick tock. Tick tock.
Things can only stay secret for so long.

Chrono Cross Part 1 - NPCs living their lives
The music is so nostalgic~~ Anyway, I love how both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross kinda start off the game with the MC or someone opening the blinds in their room, it really gives that feel of itâs the start of an adventure!! Okay, itâs so cute how both Crono and Sergeâs houses have a mum and a cat lmao, is this the classic MC house? Lol. Omgg I remember the fisherman guy and his gigantic fish, I always thought he was right to be so proud of catching it, I mean itâs literally the size of a house lmaoo. Anyway, did that fishâŚalways wiggle and move?! Thatâs so scary LOL. Itâs pretty interesting how they implement the Record of Fate/save point in the world, like itâs actually a thing in the world and not just something the player uses to save. It sounds kinda scary when the guy says it like that though, like if you forget to record it all down, youâll lose your past, thatâs⌠frightening. But the thing the girl says is pretty scary too! Like apparently itâs supposed to tell you what to do next, and if the Record of Fate doesnât do that or you canât hear anything, it means you have no future! Thatâs deep and scary! I find it hilarious how she tells you to deal with it by just sleeping though, since you canât change your fate lol. Itâs kinda interesting how the guy outside didnât go fishing today because the Record of Fate told him not to go, I guess in a way, itâs kinda like a fortune telling thing too? Thereâs a Toma the Explorer here too?! How the world has changed though! From the great explorer that found the Rainbow Shell to the 14th generation of Toma who is outside gardening for living expenses haha! Lmao at Radius teaching the basics of battle, why did he kill me with Aquaball, revive me and then kill me again?! Hahaha. LMAOO at the grandpa admiring Miki the dancerâs poster even though heâs never seen her dance, he just wants to see her boobs jiggle HAHAHA, I loved it when he said donât tell grandma lmao. Omg I remember the waitress girl that wants to be a poet! Lmao when she keeps calling the place a run down shack and the chef says sheâs fired hahahah. Ooh dang, the poor boy is right that he needed my Komodo scale to make an accessory for Kiki because she might like Lolo instead, like dang Kiki is super happy that Lolo said heâs going to get scales for her, the boy better up his game! Iâll always remember the fisherman who gives you the Shark Tooth he got 10 years ago when he decided to succeed his father and become a fisherman instead of chasing after other aspirations he had, mainly because the him in Another World was quite different to say the least haha. I always love how easy it is to get Poshul to join the party, you literally just give her a bone and sheâs like letâs go! Hahaha. LMAO at the barrel who gets annoyed at you constantly wanting an answer and gives you an uplift element hahahaha. Gotta love how passionate Leena is about the Komodo Dragon scale necklace hahaha, it is Sergeâs fault for waking up late though, so he should get them for her now since sheâs stuck with babysitting kids.
Gotta love how the monsterâs name is literally Beach Bum hahahah. Also, I remember chasing that Komodo Dragon!! It used to be so annoying hahaha. Leena is really a sentimental girl huh? I like it though haha. Too bad Serge just disappears into Another World and canât come back for a while. Lmaooo, did Poshul just ask if Leena spontaneously combusted?! HAHAHA. I nearly died. I donât remember that line at all! That was hilarious. Anyway, I love how in Another World, the Komodo Dragon jumps you instead of you jumping on it in the Home World lmao, itâs such a cute detail. I find it hilarious how in the cafe, now itâs the grandma staring at the hunk Nikki hahaha. I always found the poem girl interesting, mainly because they both feel like theyâre stuck in a random small village not able to really venture the world with the poems they really love, but they possess a really different attitude towards it. In the Home World, even though sheâs just a waitress in the cafe, she still holds hope in writing poems and still has the drive and the dream to continue it, whereas here, she gave up on them a long time ago and doesnât even want to mention it, sheâs literally given up on her dreams and doesnât think itâs realistic. Which may be true, but the way sheâs doing it is really just avoiding what she really wants to do, which is saddening. I donât think I realised but the guy who prays to Mojo instead of becoming a fisherman was actually a friend of Sergeâs father! And it was because of what happened 10 years ago where Serge âdrownedâ that he ended up changing and praying to Mojo instead of becoming a fisherman. I find it saddening though, because you can see how happy the family was in the Home World where they happily talked about their daily life, whereas here, the mother and the wife etc all just talk about how the dad keeps just praying to Mojo and refuses to do anything else in his life, he doesnât even spend time with Kiki. I always love the Komodo Dragon in âSergeâs Roomâ that rips you off 100G for resting there lmao. He doesnât tell you beforehand!! He just letâs you rest and then goes pay up lmaoo. Btw, I really love how even though Chrono Cross has the same âsilent protagonistâ thing going on, heâs less âblandâ than Crono because you can actually assume what he says from the NPC reactions in the dialogue, like theyâll kinda repeat what Serge asked to kinda gather what Serge says without you knowing. So he has more personality than Crono haha. It also helps that Serge has more dialogue choices. Itâs pretty interesting how much the people rely on the Record of Fate. The girl in the front of the line at the chiefâs house in Arni explains it really well, the Record of Fate tells her what decisions she should make, so thereâs no anxiety or fear about what to do. Itâs kinda interesting yet crazy that this thing is basically relied upon for their whole lives, itâs also kinda scary to think that if they donât record things down, theyâll essentially like disappear from this world with no records of themselves. Itâs kinda saddening that Radius isnât the chief here, but aside from being stingy, Gonji doesnât seem too bad?
Omggg Peppor is so slack! He literally kicked Poshul off the cliff!! I forgot who told Karsh and them that Serge will appear here, but I assume itâs Lynx? Anyway, I always love Kidâs first appearance, sheâs so cool haha. I always feel bad rejecting Kidâs company here since she obviously really wants to travel together, but Leena!! Haha. Itâs nice that even though this isnât the same Leena he grew up and spent most of his life with, she still feels a certain connection to him.. Itâs really sweet how Kid tells Serge to find a place to rest up since itâs getting dark and dangerous to stay out even though he just rejected her company. Lmaoo at Poshul coming back by herself hahaha. Mojo jumping down and saying heâll join Serge and them is so random, at least the guy got it right that itâs some sort of agent of love and courage lmao. Itâs justâŚmaybe it might seem like he wasted 10 years, but his family have waited for him these 10 years to turn around and face his life, so Iâm sure itâs not too late, he can still be a proper father, husband and son! I always found Skelly to be a really interesting character. Mainly because heâs a character you literally have to piece back together by finding his body parts around the world lol. I still remember his story though, I found it really saddening yet sweet. I find it hilarious that he was howling this whole time trying to find someone âdeadâ like Serge to help him. I love the newbie soldier that warns you to not go down and get the Big Egg because the Dodo is gonna kill them, I found it so wholesome how he was so worried about Sergeâs safety and asked if he was really okay haha. I kinda feel bad for stealing the egg but the egg isnât really the Dodoâs anyway haha. Anyway, I love how silly Solt and Peppor are, theyâre such a highlight. Their theme soundtrack is so funky and jumpy, I always loved hearing it, so iconic haha.
Termina is such a great town with such a good song! Like it really reflects the upbeat and cool town it is. Omg I totally get that lady doing her laundry, itâs like, sunny weather is great, but sometimes you need rain too, itâs hard hahaha. Lmao at Lisaâs (Leenaâs friend) father I assume who likes to gather mushrooms, I love how when he finds a secret path to get into the Viper Manor, he automatically assumes itâs because Master Viper likes to gather mushrooms too hahahah, yes, heâs a good lord just because of that lol. Vanâs fatherâs story is pretty terrible. Van laments and wonders whether his father really used to be an artist back in the day considering how heâs so obsessed with money now, but really, maybe if he listened to the maid, he might understand his father better. His father is still bad for neglecting the kid and stuff, but honestly itâs understandable. When he was an artist, he was poor, so when his wife got sick, he couldnât do anything but watch her pass away, powerless to helping her, so now he earns money to make sure that his son can stay healthy and be taken care of if anything happens. I just hope he spends more time with Van, promises are important to keep. LMAO when you do the fortune telling and itâs all serious and stuff when it comes to the future of Serge and Kid, but when you choose Leena, the fortune teller just says that she wonât get a boyfriend for a long time hahahahaha, thatâs so slack. Despite how cool Termina seems though, racism is definitely rampant against demi-humans, whether it be the way people treat demi-human workers or how that guy has a freaking live mermaid in an ice cube, like what?! I always find it so funny how you can take Grecoâs weights and it makes you run around really slowly because itâs heavy hahaha, itâs so random and silly. And the new Glenn! Heâs not as cool as Frog but I always liked the Glenn in this game because he was such a kind and gentle soul. He lived in Darioâs (his dead but capable brother) shadow but heâs good for his own merits imo. I guess in a way, it parallels the story of Frog and Cyrus but instead of Glenn being truly as capable as Frog, I think Glenn instead found his own strengths as a person, and it also intertwines with Riddelâs story. I like Riddel~
Honestly, I like Nikki and want to get him, but his path is boring compared to Guileâs so I always end up climbing the cliff with Guile haha. And donât even talk about Pierreâs route into Viper Manor loll, itâs so anticlimactic, itâs boring lol. To be fair though, I really enjoy the different variety because I have actually played the game three different times to see the different paths haha. I have to admit though, I love how the great idea the guards have to protect the manor from intruders is to constantly throw rocks down at them LOL, like where does all this energy come from?! Hahaha. Omgg that dragon feeding game, I am so bad at it lol, I had to get my bro to help me do anything more than 10 times hahahaha. I feel like if you suck at it (like me), the 40 times one is the most worth doing because it gives you RecoverAll which is really good! Lmao at falling through the trap hole, I remember that~ So silly of the guards to just open up the cage because Kid taunted them hahaha. I remember Orcha!! I love how heâs chopping carrots(?) and theyâre just flying everywhere lol! Itâs saddening that the evil guys did something to him though. I find it so funny yet silly that Glenn canât remember the password to get through the main door and needs to write it down on the wall lol! Thanks for the tip hahaha. The Boxer Brothers aka the big and small mimic duo are so cute! I keep hitting the wrong one and donât get any items thoughđ OMG hahaha, I love how the password to get through one of the doors is âsilenceâ because, dang, my indecisiveness helped me get through LOL. I couldnât decide which one sounded less stupid of an answer and right when I was like whatever, the guard says staying silent was correct hahahah. LMAO at the treasure chest in Karshâs room. Initially, he tells you that you canât open it, but when you keep trying to open it, his dialogue changes and he counts how many times you keep trying, and when you do it for the 20th time, he gives up and just letâs you have the accessory inside the chest hahahaha. It was so cool. Too bad for Zoahâs chest, you canât get it until he joins you haha. Marcy is a crazy girl as usual haha, she deals so much damage!! I know sheâs the highest ranking dragoon (apparently) among the three since Dario is dead now, but dang. As for what the prophet said, itâs not anything Iâm not aware of since heâs really just telling him that there was a 50/50 chance for Serge to continue existing 10 years ago and the two worlds kinda reflect how he survived in one and died in the other, but now what he exists in this world where he has died, there might be something more to it? I always found it really evil of Lynx to throw that dagger at Kid (who was holding Riddel hostage so that everyone could escape), it was pretty dirty. Itâs kinda weird to hear Lynx call Serge the Chrono Trigger now haha.
For now, Iâm really enjoying my replay! Itâs honestly been so long~ The music is as beautiful as I remember, and even though the graphics can be rather jarring with the crappy quality it shows up as on the TV, itâs still all right haha. It gave me a headache before but I think Iâm getting more used to it now haha. Gameplay has never been something I cared about too much, but I honestly find the Chrono Cross battles so nostalgic. However, the highlight of the game for me is still the NPC dialogues, theyâre just so full of life and vibrancy! Like, I can actually feel that they are living their own lives in their own way, and maybe itâs not always the âcorrectâ way of life, but it is their life. Whether it be the grandpa looking at Mikiâs poster or the poem girl, a lot of the NPCs are ones Iâve remembered for years and years because they made some sort of impression on me and I think thatâs what makes me love Chrono Cross so much.
P.S 500th post apparently! Yay to more!~
