If the callan writers didn’t want me to view Callan and Meres as gay then maybe they shouldn’t have written them so gayly

It's so funny in S2 of Callan the homosexual characters are more explicitly written (two stories, one about ex Cambridge students and scientist, another about French spies) because the discrimination law dropped that year (1968) but in S1 they can only insinuate:
1. Hunter showed the blackmailing pictures of a diplomat's younger years where he described the diplomat as "fair headed, pretty one"
2. And when Meres was shocked that USA president thought the said diplomat, John Fielding, is a good influence on his nephew (Hunter even said with his "hobbies" this Fielding is too risky to be in foreign office) Hunter explained that Fielding is now a "reformed character" and got married.
3. Meres referred Fielding to Mrs. Fielding as he was once "photographer's model".
4. Mrs. Fielding's reactions towards the photo is: she doesn't want to see them and "I love him and he loves me, even if once he-"
I doubt that John Fielding has "women problem", he's more likely gay or bi.
For the record, the interesting thing is: Hunter assumed Meres must've known this guy in Washington lol. (Also Meres probably stayed in Washington a lot even before his reassigning in S3)
