they only have each other but the paths theyve chosen have pulled them so far apart that they’ll never have that old closeness they had before ajax was childe and before dola returned to mond. dola cant bring herself to accept a man linked so closely to people who’ve torn apart the lives of people dear to her and childe won’t give up his loyalty to the tsaritsa and pursuit of power.

but thinking abt her going to fontaine to check in on him and even stay with him when he writes of his issues with that ‘bad mood’ of his. willing to fight her closest friends and beg them to just trust her and that she’s going to meet an old friend as himself and not a harbinger. childe catching on that she must’ve gone through a lot to be able to see him even if she wont say anything so he tries to make this easier on her as best he can. he’ll take care of her and keep her company and repay her for coming to see him, keep the fatui out of her business as much as possible. and eventually that bridge is repaired, slowly slowly slowly

but that closeness they had wont fully return no matter how much the both of them want it back. yet she’ll follow him to the fortress and he’ll insist that she should leave for her own good.
