This one was much more difficult than the last, but I'm still very satisfied with it! 😤 I'm both sad that my version lost a lot of the fun soundplay of the original, and also waaay more impressed with the lyrics and vocals after digging it like this! I tried to keep it balanced between the original and Fuuta's version, though maybe it ended up leaning more toward the cover, idk. Leaving my specific notes in the tags 👍

only way i got through the day was hallucinating megumi beside me the entire time

“What do you mean you need to accompany me?”
Eddie took a long, deep breath- the kind that always let Richie know that Eds’ patience was running thin. “Look, since you refuse to take these death threats seriously and cancel your cross-country trip, management is meeting you in the middle and sending me with you. It’s for your own safety, Richie.”
“Oh yeah, because I bet I’m going to meet real danger back home in fucking Derry.” Richie flopped back down in his chair, letting out a frustrated groan. “Great,” he muttered. “First I get treated like a child by having you fucking babysit me, and now I’ve got to somehow find a way to explain to my parents that the strange man I’ve brought home with me is to protect me from fucking death threats. Yeah, that should go over well at the dinner table.”
“Actually, you can’t disclose the threats to anyone,” Eddie told him. “Management is trying to keep things under control- telling others, even your parents, could spark a leak to the media. You’re under strict orders to keep it a secret and pretend like everything’s fine.”
Richie’s tolerance for this was starting to reach its max. “Wait a minute, so first you’re telling me that you need to accompany me to my family’s Christmas, and now you’re saying that I’m not even allowed to tell my own parents the reason why?”
Eddie shrugged. “That’s the policy.”
Richie ran a hand over his face. He was tired- the past few weeks had just been bad news after bad news, and the one thing he was actually looking forward to- Christmas back home with his parents- was also making a turn for the worse. “Great,” he mumbled. “Just great. And so what the hell am I supposed to tell my family when they ask who you are, huh, genius? Did management think of that yet?”
Eddie faltered on his words, and when he couldn’t come up with something, averted his eyes from Richie’s. Richie almost laughed- great job on that one, management!
Richie was just starting to accept that maybe he should cancel his trip back home after all, when an idea popped into his head. It was an insane idea, one that Eddie, his no-bullshit bodyguard who’d had a stick up his ass since Richie had first met, would never agree to, but… it was worth a shot.
“Alright, fine,” he said, getting up from the chair. “This is what we’ll do.” Eddie looked back up to him, his eyebrows raised in curiosity as he awaited Richie’s suggestions. “You can pretend to be my boyfriend.”
Eddie’s response was immediate. “Absolutely not.”
“Come on!” Richie whined. “It’s the only thing my parents will believe! Besides, my mom is always on my ass, year after year about being single, so doing this will be like killing two birds with one stone. You can do your job and keep me safe, and I get my mom to stop setting me up on blind dates whenever I go back home. It’s a win-win.”
Richie watched as Eddie thought it over. He knew it was a long shot, that the most likely outcome would be Eddie shutting him down with a firm No, that Richie would have to desperately try to find another explanation within the 48 hours he had left before his flight home to Derry.
Which is why it came as a rather big surprise, when Eddie met his eyes after a long time of thinking, and simply said, “Okay.”

so sorry if this is an annoying question, but what brush do you use for lineart? the soft, crunchiness of it compliments your style so so much...
it's not annoying at all! I do fully recognise that the specific brushes I use to draw contribute hugely to my process, least of all because they have a certain kinetic "feeling" to roll out onto the canvas lol. this is the brush I currently use to ink!
it's a lot less 'textured' and much softer than my previous inking brush, but just as hard to magic wand when I need to color in lol. the SAI textures and brushmaps I have on this setup can be found over here - the person who originally made them was on deviantArt but has deleted their account a long time ago, and I still haven't been able to find them again 😔
