#i have an idea for a layout so we'll see if i have the time

you all pestered me for it and here it is. the closeness analysis/ theory.
now if you didn't see I basically had this theory that the closer to BIG and COTY we get in the DAPG timeline the closer dan and phil sit to each other. Dan made a comment about how them playing Heartthrob being like a gay soft launch and that got me thinking of some other ways they could have done it and one of those being the idea that as time goes on you get less and less strict and worrisome about what others think of you and so they end up gravitating closer and closer.
This post will be under a see more cos its probably gonna be long af.
I will be splitting it into stages.
2014 -15
2016 - 17
2018
revival
sorry the screenshots arent clickable to make bigger tumblr only allows for 30 on a post so i had to group them together!
(i will not be covering horror games apart from in the revival stage and i will also not be talking much about gamingmas 2023)
2014 - 15
now when i initially went to collect my evidence, i was suddenly worried maybe i kinda had things wrong because i feel like in Donkey Kong Country (the first dapg video, see screenshot below) they're sat pretty close but honestly when we get to how they sit a lot later on you'll see that this is actually pretty far apart
Tumblr media
now here are some screenshots for the inital look at at the end of them we'll talk (this will be the layout for most of this post i think)
Tumblr media
now of course this is only a selection of those year's videos if i screenshotted them all i fear this post would never end. now these first 2 years are a good mix of at desk videos on sofa videos. i noticed from some other videos not show here that in sofa videos they rend to sit a lot closer to each other than they do at the desk, this is kinda funny to me cos really they definitely have room for a wider frame on the couch if they wanted to sit like normal people.
2016 - 17
Tumblr media
2016 and the start of 2017 feel like a mixed bag of how close together they are but i did notice that the more into 2017 we got the more they seemed to be shoulder to shoulder! these also started to wean out sofa sitting games (not 100% gone yet but almost). now if you're wondering why i've kept this screenshot apart its cos this is the last one in the first london apartment.
Tumblr media
and honestly from here on out is where i believe the "soft launching" begins!
so lets finish 2017 and see if im right!
Tumblr media
just had to single out this screenshot for a sec:
Tumblr media
in case anyone wondered that is the face dan made during dream daddy when phil reads "we were roommates for a while too"
softlaunch?
anyway moving on
Tumblr media
watching these videos definitely feels like something changed btw, while they still arent as close as we'll start seeing them sit, i definitely noticed more often they were shoulder to shoulder. but like a new room has definitely changed the vibe a little bit between them, and now we can move on to the next and final year of pre hiatus dapg, where things as you will see immediately start to change.
2018
like i said... immediately we are met with this, i would also like to let everyone know that 2018 is my favourite era of pre hiatus dapg
Tumblr media
lets see what the rest of this year will bring
Tumblr media
now i'm splitting 2018 up into parts because i need to do a whole talk about the tour situations so for now lets look at the above screenshots, now its very obvious that they are sitting so much closer to each other which i think is really funny considering how big that room is and often in this section of videos there is a lot of room either side of them so they literally do not need to be that close.
now lets talk about the tour bus. this is how close they're sitting
Tumblr media
thats for sure a 1 person seat yet they've both forced themselves on even tho the sofa literally behind them would have been perfectly fine to sit on, and they cant give me "this is the only place to set up the camera" babe its really not theres a whole surface behind you.
okay thank you for listening to this, moving on to the final part of 2018!
Tumblr media
(the last 2 screenshots are out of order oops)
idk about you but yeah i think they are definetly a lot closer than they were way back in 2014. i really dont have a lot to say other than that, and i have definetly proven my theory so now we've established that lets have a brief look at post hiatus dapg!
Revival
Now this is gonna be really brief its just a summary of where we are post BIG/COTY and post hiatus (things my brain still cant quite believe is real)
now here are the revival moments i wanna give a mention!
firstly sims season ep 3 when dan moves his chair away from phil and their wheels are literally locked together, pushing phil's chair too
Tumblr media Tumblr media
heres dan looking into the monitor and then moving closer to phil <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and finally
hand hold
Tumblr media
thanks for reading all this and sorry if it didnt live up to the hype lmao

Hi Sera :)
If you had time some day I'd love to see a floorplan (blueprint/layout?) for the warehouse, especially now that it seems we'll be spending more time in it in book 3! It'd be nice to have an idea of how the rooms connect together and the scale of it I can't quite imagine
I am actually gradually getting floorplans up together for my own reference, which Nai is amazingly turning into much prettier designs than my scrawled sketches in order to share on Patreon!
Hopefully one day I'll be able to piece them all together into one big floorplan!
Thank you so much for the ask! :)

DSMP Pin-Up Calendar - Details and FAQ
TIMELINE:
Applications Open: August 11
Applications close: August 25
Invites to artists sent: August 30
Printing: Late October DSMP Pin-Up Calendar is an artistic celebration of the characters of the DSMP, drawing inspiration from the creativity of the fandom community, "hot guy" calendars, action movie posters, classic pin-ups, vintage advertisements, art prints, and more, in the form of a 2024 calendar. FAQ:
Which characters are going to be in the calendar? There are 38 people on the DSMP, so we're not going to be able to fit them all. We're going to attempt to build a portfolio that covers as many characters as possible, but we're not deciding on which characters specifically until we know which artists we have and what ideas for images they have.
Are the characters played by minors involved? There are no current minors involved with the DSMP, but we understand that the creators being underage for much of the server's run puts a bit of a damper on enjoying more salacious images of the characters. In cases where artists decide they want to draw a character who was underage for a significant period of time of the DSMP, we'll ask that their images tend closer to "action movie poster" or "vintage advertisement" than "pin up".
Is NSFW allowed? We want this calendar to be fun and a bit cheeky, and we want to allow the artists creative liberty, but we also want you to be able to display this without your parents going "what the hell"? No actual NSFW will be part of the calendar.
I want to draw [x] character, can I draw them? During the application and planning process, we'll ask artists to indicate which characters they want to draw. We will then draw up a plan for the calendar, and artists will be assigned a character or characters based on the ones they selected.
Do the images have to stay canon-compliant? Can I draw my own design for a character? We encourage you to bring your own designs to the table, and feel free to set the characters within a canon setting OR an au.
How will I get the calendar? We will be printing a bound calendar through a central source, probably Mixbox, and we will also be making a PDF version that you can print yourself locally, if you have a different print source in mind or if the website doesn't ship to your country.
How much money are you making from this? We are not making any money from this project. If you buy the calendar through a source that asks you to pay for it, it will be priced at-cost, so you will only be paying for the cost of the printing and shipping. The mod team will see no profit from it.
How does the process work? We are going to open the calendar up to applications, and then we're going to go through the apps and select artists that can draw a wide variety of characters. Once in the discord, we're going to ask artists to pitch us a variety of ideas, and then the mod team is going to select pitches to make sure we, ideally, get a variety of different images and characters represented. We will then go through sketches, final, layout, and then release it for you all to buy or print!

How To Use AI To Fake A Scandal For Fun, Profit, and Clout
Or, I Just Saw People I Know To Be Reasonable Fall For A Fake "Ripoff" And Now I'm Going To Gently Demonstrate What Really Happened
So, we all know what people say about AI. It's just an automatic collage machine, it's stealing your data (as if the rest of the mainstream internet isn't - seriously, we should be using that knee-jerk disgust response to demand better internet privacy laws rather than try to beef up copyright so that compliance has to come at the beginning rather than the end of the process and you can be sued on suspicion of referencing, but I digress...), it can't create anything novel, some people go so far as to claim it's not even synthesizing anything, but just acting as a search engine and returning something run through a filter and "proving" it by "searching" for their own art and "finding" it.
And those are blatant lies.
The thing is, the reason AI is such a breakthrough - and the reason we memed with it so hard when DALL-E Mini and DALL-E 2 first dropped - is because it CAN create novel output. Because it CAN visualize the absurd ideas that no one has ever posted to the internet before. In fact, it would be a bigger breakthrough in computer science if we DID come up with an automatic collage machine - something that knows where to cut out a part of one image and paste it onto another, then smooth out the lighting and colors to make them fairly consistent, to make it look like what we would recognize as an image we're asking for? That would make the denoising algorithm on steroids that a diffusion model is look like child's play.
But, unlike the posts that claim that they're just acting as a collage maker at best and a search engine at worst, I'm not going to ask you to take my word for it (and stick a pin in this point, we'll come back to it later). I'm going to ask you to go to Simple Stable (or Craiyon, or the Karlo demo, if Google Colab feels too complicated for you - or if you like, do all of the above) and throw in a shitpost prompt or two. Ask for a velociraptor carousel pony ridden by a bunny. Ask for Godzilla fighting a wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube man. Ask for an oil painting of a capybara wearing an ornate princess gown. Shitpost with it like we did before these myths took hold.
Now take your favorite result(s) and reverse image search them. Did you get anything remotely similar to your generated image? Probably not!
So then, how did someone end up getting a near perfect recreation of their work? Was that just some kind of wacky, one-in-a-million coincidence?
Well - oh no, look at that, I asked it for a simplistic character drawing and it happened to me too, it just returned a drawing of mine that I never even uploaded, and it's the worst drawing I've done since the fifth grade even just to embarrass me! Oh no, what happened, did they change things right under my nose, has digital surveillance gotten even WORSE?? Look, see, here's the original on the left, compare it to the output on the right - scary!! They're training on the contents of your computer in real time now, aaaagh!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Except, of course, for the fact that the entire paragraph above was a lie and I did this on purpose in a way no one could possibly recreate from a text prompt, even with a perfect description.
How?
See, some models have this nifty little function called img2img. It can be used for anything from guiding the composition of your final image with a roughly drawn layout, to turning a building into a dragon...to post-processing of a hand-drawn image, to blatantly fucking lying about how AI works.
I took 5 minutes out of my day to crudely draw a character. I uploaded the image to this post. I saved the post as a draft. I stuck the image URL in the init_image field in Simple Stable, cranked the init strength up to 0.8, cleared all text prompts, and ran it. It did exactly what I told it to and tried to lightly refine the image I gave it.
If you see someone claiming that an AI stole their image with this kind of "proof", and the image they're comparing is not ITSELF a parody of an extremely well-known piece such as the Mona Lisa, or just so extremely generic that the level of similarity could be a coincidence (you/your favorite artist do/es not own the rule of thirds or basic fantasy creatures, just to name one family of example I've seen), this is what happened.
So from here you must realize that it is deeply insidious that posts that make these claims usually imply or even outright state that you should NOT try to recreate this but instead just take their word for it, stressing ~DON'T FEED THE MACHINE~. It's always some claim about "ohhh, the more you use them, the more they learn, I made a SACRIFICE so you don't have to" - but txt2img functions can't use your interaction to learn jack shit. There's no new information in a text prompt for them TO learn. Most img2img models can't learn from your input either, for that matter! I still recommend being careful about corporate img2img toys - we know that Facebook, for instance, is happy to try and beef up facial recognition for the WORST possible reasons - but if you're worried about your privacy and data harvesting, any given txt2img model is one of the least worrying things on the internet today.
So do be careful with your privacy online, and PLEASE use your very understandable knee-jerk horror response to how much extremely personal content can be found in training databases as a call to DEMAND better privacy laws ("do not track" should not be just for show ffs) and compliance with security protocols in fields that deal with very private information (COMMON CRAWL DOESN'T GO FAR OUT OF ITS WAY, IT SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET ANY MEDICAL IMAGES THE PATIENTS DIDN'T SHARE THEMSELVES HOLY SHIT, SOME HOSPITAL WORKERS AND/OR MEDICAL COMMUNICATIONS DEVELOPERS BETTER BE GETTING FIRED AND/OR SUED) - but don't just believe a convenient and easy-to-disprove lie because it aligns with that feeling.

Hello! I'm that anon who once asked you about the lots you use in your gameplay and whether you built them all. I'm so impressed that you create most of them yourself! But ever since you replied to that question, I've been trying to envision a lot for one of my upcoming gameplays, but I'm struggling to fully see it in my mind, so I was wondering if you'd mind giving some tips on your process of building your lots. Building is my weakest skill in the game, but I want to give it a try!
hello again anon!! i'm very flattered u think it's impressive 🥺 i truly love creating spaces for these guys! i'll try my best to kinda go into my process but be warned.. like anything else i do it's pretty much just chaos/winging it dkjsdkj (it'd be much easier if i used floorplans or smth simple so i could be like, here do this! but alas...)
okay i'm prolly gonna ramble a lot here but i mostly base my builds off random visions/future scenes that pop into my head or straight up vibes.. which isn't very helpful ik but hopefully if i explain it'll make a bit more sense!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
so with Oscar's house above i knew i wanted it to be BIG, but i didn't want it to feel like a mansion they couldn't afford so i added some other houses on the lot and just gave em the biggest plot! i also knew i wanted it to be symmetrical, but only from the outside cos i wanted it to feel slightly chaotic on the inside, also hence the random tower addition on the left and the sunroom on the right.. like it used to be a big grand symmetrical "mansion" (prolly at the time it was built) but over the years kinda ended up as a convoluted mess left to rot until someone rescued it (yay for Oscar's impulsivity 🤸‍♀️) AND IT NEEDED AN ATTIC!! u kno cos where else would Clementine live?? 👻
so really i had no inspo pics or house plan layouts to go off here, just a vibe and an idea, i started with a rough shape and worked out all the kinks from there, then added the other lots.. be prepared to hate your wip and start over tho cos ig it's all part of the fun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
here we have an actual wip to use as an example! so with this one i basically knew i wanted a wrap around style house around a "courtyard" but since mt. komo is shit and doesn't have any decent sized lots we'll have to go with an L-shaped design and a third floor ig 😩 i started with the ground floor and just pissed around with the others until i ended up with smth just right, like anything else i do, building is just ruminating on an idea until i'm like.. yeah that works sdkjskj.. also handy to place the bare minimum furniture items as u go to get a feel of how the space does or doesn't work so u can fix it n stuff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also feel free to make shit look strange if it works, for example these window placements look weird as hell on the outside, but real life houses aren't always symmetrical or perfect on the outside and we spend most of our time on the inside where the windows make perfect sense so.. yeah! i'm big on views from the INSIDE of the house so i just make stuff work, also big fan of using ivy/wall decs n stuff to "fix" the way it might look on the outside if needs be too..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the school i made for Robin n' co. was entirely built around this pool (cos it's IMPORTANT) and the fact that it had to have a glass roof (it just HAD to ok idk why but we must kneel to the vision when it strikes 🧎‍♀️) i tried to make the rest of it make sense around it tho, like maybe it was added on afterward so the rest is a pretty standard shape with offices n shit near the entrances etc.. ALSO (wait i actually need to explain smth else before we get to this also BUT BEAR WITH ME!)
ask yourself some questions (if u want? or just dl a house idk dskjdk)
i treat building similarly to writing and that means asking yourself some questions.. like you might ask why a character is doing/saying something, what happened in the past to make them this way? what're they aiming for in the future to choose these paths etc etc.. WELL.. what's this building for, who is it for, who chose to live here, who got stuck here, why do they like it, why do they hate it, etc etc.
we either get stuck somewhere we hate and it doesn't suit us, or we're lucky enough to choose somewhere that we love, but why? Oscar's house is sprawling and chaotic because they kinda are, and it suits them! all the random cupboards leading nowhere and the quirky additions are just perfect for them, if they were real people looking for a real house they'd view it and LOVE it, but other characters definitely would NOT 😅 the wip is neat and practical cos the people who're gonna live there are! 👀 and the school (see we got to that ALSO eventually) has that huge "grand" courtyard at the front that's actually pretty useless because it's a shitty comprehensive school that wants to give the image that it's decent, but actually it's a bit shit and there's nothing going on in the back, nowhere for the kids to play outside and very limited resources/equipment for them either.. like everything is built the way it is for a reason, which is why i think i find it so impossible to use other ppls builds, cos they don't fit all these visions in my mind...
ok i'm gonna shut up now but i HOPE this rambling mess somewhat explains how i go about starting a build and why.. i'm not sure i can help with the vision part since your brain is your own but floorplan websites and things like pinterest or even just google images are great for giving you ideas if you're struggling!

Your Lockwood. Enemies to lover was sooooo good, please I need a part 2🥺
a/n: so glad you liked it! of course i’ll write a part 2 i am extremely emotionally attached to this series. also to the person who requested the lucy carlyle x reader, it is on its way i promise
warnings: language gn reader
full series collection: here
"You, again? I saw you last week. My eyes can't handle this pain anymore."
Lockwood grins in your doorway. "Come on, last week wasn't so bad. We made it out alive. How are your hands doing, by the way?"
"I almost fell out of a window because of an abusive old man," you grumble. "And they're fine, but they still smell like Savlon, thanks to you. I suppose you'll want to come in?"
"If that's alright," Lockwood says. "I've got more business for you."
Groaning quietly, you move out of the way and gesture for him to come inside. "Alice left for work not long ago, so you won't scare her away. Come on, I'll put some tea on. Milk and sugar?"
"Just milk, please."
You direct Lockwood over to your sofa, bought second-hand from some old couple in north London. That much is evident from its less-than-appealing pattern, but it's comfortable enough. Lockwood sinks down onto it, smiling gratefully when you hand him a mug of tea.
"So, what is it this time?" you ask, leaning against the kitchen counter.
"Haunted mansion out in Harrow. A bit of a trek away, but it's good pay. Type Two again, but Lucy will be coming along this time, so hopefully a repeat of last time doesn't happen. We just need an extra pair of hands. It's a big space to cover for three people."
You cross your arms. "Bold of you to assume I want to work with you again. I could've died last time."
"But you will come with us, won't you?"
"I might as well," you grumble. "Nothing else on. Rent's this week. Any information on the house, possible ideas of who the ghost is, or will Lucy and I have to find that out for you?"
Lockwood smiles and, surprisingly, it doesn't piss you off as much as it used to. "George is neck deep in newspapers right now - I've just come from the Archives - so I'm sure we'll have much more than we did last time."
"Alright," you say. "I'm in, but I'm going nowhere near a window again, okay? You can fall out of it this time."
"Deal." He stands, and you almost forgot how obnoxiously tall he is. It's infuriating having to tilt your head to look at him. "Meet us at the station at four."
Making your way to the door, you say, "Be on time, this time. In fact, be early. That would be preferable."
"We'll try." Something about his smile makes your stomach flip. "Thanks for the tea. See you later."
--
The train ride is relatively peaceful.
You sit next to Lucy, who smiles upon seeing you, and across from Lockwood, who wears a shit-eating grin the whole ride, saying something about 'feeling good about this case'. You'd stopped listening to him two seconds after his arrival. You only start paying attention again when George starts to explain his research.
"Apparently," George says, consulting his notebook, "there was a fire at this house in the mid-eighteen-hundreds. The exterior of the house didn't burn down, being made out of sandstone, but the inside was wrecked. Most people managed to escape the blaze, but three died - the lord of the house and his two daughters. The interior has been rebuilt, since, but I managed to find the original plans for the house's layout."
Lucy leans over the architectural plan. "The rooms have all moved around. Where do you think the fire stemmed from?"
"Reports say the lounge, which is now the dining room," George explains. "Lord Ammenby and his daughters, Susanne and Marcella, had seemingly fallen asleep there during the evening, and the fire was left unchecked. It consumed them before anyone could save them."
"So the source could be where the fireplace was," Lockwood guesses.
"Or where they were," you say. "Maybe even where they are now. George, do your notes say anything about where their remains were buried?"
He takes a minute to scan through his notes, flipping through pages. "There's apparently a big sycamore on the estate where the girls had a swing. The servants buried the family there with the thought that they could play in the swing for the rest of eternity."
"Bit grim," Lucy says, "but sweet, I guess. So, are those our three main guesses?"
"They're possible sources," Lockwood says. "Vague, but the best we've got."
"Better than last time," you say, frowning. "So, plan of action?"
Lockwood sits forward. "Lucy and George, you guys scout out the house. Lucy's Listening is more powerful, so you're more likely to hear if anything is going on in the house. (name) and I will take our chance with the tree. If we get nothing from it, we'll join back up with you guys."
"Should we have a signal or something?" you ask. "To save us shouting for help, or running backwards and forwards and risk getting ghost-touched? Like adjusting the lantern light a few times, or flashing our torches."
Goerge nods. "Good idea. Seeing as that ghost last week prevented me from hearing you guys, that's probably our best bet."
"One flash means everything is clear," Lockwood says. "Two means potential finding. Three means -"
"Ah, shit, there's a ghost, come help," you finish.
"I suppose that's one way of putting it," Lucy says with a snort.
It doesn't take much longer to reach Harrow, and the taxi ride to the mansion passes in what feels like mere minutes. Before long, you're all crawling out of the car, duffle bags in hand, chains looped over your shoulders, and rapiers at your sides.
Wrought iron gates tower before you, towering over you and casting twisting shadows on the slowly darkening pavement. You all pass through it and begin the trek up to the mansion - a hulking beast of sandstone, pinpricked with large windows and balconies. It's shaped so that there's a large courtyard in front of the entrance, hosting a large fountain with some kind of statue in the middle.
"Everyone remember the code?" Lockwood asks, eyeing the large double doors just ahead.
"One is good, two is alright, three is bad," George says. "Yes, we remember. Now, go. That's the tree over there, I think."
The four of you turn to the right, where a massive tree looms, covered in bright green leaves. In the breeze, a few flutter down from the branches, and a small swing moves softly. A shadow hangs below it, so large it almost reaches the mansion.
"Not creepy at all," you murmur. "Are we ready to start this happy journey?"
With big sighs, George and Lucy make their way into the mansion, holding the old and new plans of the layout. You and Lockwood share a look, a mix of confidence and worry - more on your part than anything - before trudging over to the massive tree.
"At least there are no windows for us to fall out of," you say, staring up at the tree. Its roots are so large that you're still standing at least six feet away from the trunk.
Lockwood breathes a laugh, checking his temperature gun about fifteen feet from the tree. "Fifteen degrees over here."
"Ten here." You frown at the hulking mass of bark and leaves. "Should we signal Lucy and George? I don't think this is just a chill from standing in the shadow."
"Not yet," Lockwood says, turning on a few lanterns. "See if you can hear anything first. I'll keep a lookout and see if they signal us."
Nodding, you look up at the twisting branches. Sounds around you drain out until you're surrounded by silence, thick and heavy, broken only by the faint sound of a rhythmic swoosh, swoosh, swoosh of a swing. Someone, a young girl, giggles, followed by the sound of a man's chuckle. You can feel a smile play on your lips. They're happy. So happy.
A hand closes over your arm, grip tight. "Lucy and George are signalling," Lockwood says, his tone urgent. "Three flashes. We need to go."
"Wait," you murmur. "There's something..."
"(name), we need to go now. They're in danger."
"No... I can hear something... A woman's voice. Did George mention anything about a Lady of the mansion? I can't remember."
Lockwood tugs your arm. "I don't know, but we need to go help -"
"Get away from the tree!" Lucy's voice shrieks. "It's a trap!"
And then you hear it, the words, the malicious tone of a woman speaking to nothing but tree roots. Your heart thunders in your chest, and a heavy wave of nausea hits you. You stumble backwards, falling into Lockwood's chest.
"His wife, the mother," you manage. "She started the fire. She -"
"Get away from the tree!"
Suddenly, there's a bright light directly in front of you and you can't move. A ghost hovers over the tree roots, but it doesn't appear as it once was. No, its skin is charred and burned, oozing with liquid - blood, maybe? Clothes have melted onto its skin, and the sight is enough to make you even more ill. You'd throw up if you weren't in a ghost lock.
"Snap out of it!" Lockwood yells. He wraps his arms around you, pulling you into the iron circle he must have made while you were using your Talent. "It's Lord Ammenby."
Your joints feel a little loose-jointed and disoriented, but you're no longer ghost-locked. "He's a Wraith. He was burned alive by his wife..."
"We can discuss the fate of his death later," Lockwood says. "For now, we need to get to the source."
"Did you manage to see where he appeared from?"
Lockwood points. "In between those roots, there, but we don't have shovels."
You swallow your fear down, watching the Visitor approach slowly. "Crowbar?"
He bends down and retrieves a crowbar from his duffle bag, handing it to you. "I'll distract him, you get the source. George and Lucy will be here soon, so we'll hold him off."
"Wonderful," you grumble. "Because that went swimmingly last time."
"Hey." His hand clutches your wrist gently, and a tingle runs up your arm at the contact. "You'll be fine. Lucy and George are almost here. And I'll keep you safe. I promise."
You glance back at him, finding nothing but sincerity in his eyes. "Okay. Ready?"
His grin gives you confidence. "I was born ready."
Drawing his rapier, he leaps out of the iron circle, drawing the attention of the Wraith. Almost instantaneously, Lord Ammenby's ghost launches at him, wailing.
You take your chance and sprint for the tree's roots, crowbar in one hand and a silver net in the other. Stumbling across the thick, gnarled roots, you manage to reach the area Lockwood pointed to - a gap, no larger than your fist. With a grunt, you slam the crowbar into the ground and begin hacking away at the soil.
Behind you, the ghost wails again, followed by a chorus of salt bombs and shouting. By the sound of it, Lucy and George have joined the fight.
The ground is packed hard and laced with roots, thinner than the ones protruding from the ground, but still tough, and the crowbar is proving to hinder you more than anything. As much as you don't want to, you reach into the hole you've created with your hand, digging around as deep as you can.
"(name), look out!" Lucy cries.
Looking up, you can see the ghost racing towards you. As quickly as you can, you tear your arm out of the ground and throw a salt bomb, momentarily stopping the attack, but Lord Ammenby is back sooner than you have time to process.
"(name)!"
A rapier blade passes clean through the ghost, and as the other-light dissipates, Lockwood's face, splattered with a little soil, appears. "Hurry!" is all he says.
Once again, you shove your arm back into the ground, scratching around with your hand until you finally feel it - the rough, scratchy feel of bones under your nails. Screams overtake your mind, and you can feel heat on your skin, but you push through it, shimmying the small cluster around until you're able to pull them free of the hole.
As you wrap the charred remains in the silver net, the ghost vanishes, and the dark estate becomes silent.
Lockwood, standing just in front of you, is panting, still in a defensive stance. Lucy and George aren't too far off, hunched and holding onto their knees as they catch their breath.
Standing, you wipe as much dirt and soil from your arm as you can. "Well," you say. "It seems we have a thing for men murdered by their wives."

"Lockwood, if you'd told me sooner that your tea tasted this good, I would've forgiven you sooner and worked with you more."
The boy in question laughs, reclining in his seat in the living room. "At least I know now."
"As long as I get paid, I don't see any more mishaps occurring," you say, leaning your head back against the cushioned armrest.
Despite closing your eyes, you're well aware of Lockwood's gaze on your face. You can feel it, like little pinpricks on your face, but you're too tired to mock him for it.
"You know," he says, and something in his tone confuses you - caution. "We make a pretty good team, you and I."
A small smile tugs at the corners of your mouth. "As much as I hate to admit it, we do. Thanks for having my back out there."
"That's what friends do."
Something in your chest tugs. Other than your flatmate, there hasn't been anyone you can call a friend for a while.
"As long as that notion is correct?"
"I suppose it's not entirely out the window," you murmur. "As long as I get more tea."
"As much as you want." You can hear the smile in his voice, and, funnily enough, it makes your smile grow. "Do you want me to walk you to the nearest night cab station? It's quite late."
Opening your eyes, you slowly sit up. "That's alright. I'm sure I can manage."
His smile has softened into something unfamiliar. It's not his usual cocky grin, or that one of triumph, but rather something more personal.
"As long as you're sure," he says, his dark eyes fixed on yours. "But know that you're welcome to stay here if you like."
You roll your eyes. "God, it's like you don't want me to leave! I'll be fine. Want me to call you when I get home, mum?"
He laughs, and the sound of it makes you feel inexplicably content. "Just get home safe, yeah? I know where to find you if we need your help again."
"I specialise in husband-murdered-by-wife cases, so you're aware," you inform him. "And I'm particularly adept at window removals and gardening."
"Come on," Lockwood says, standing. "Get home before it gets any later."
"You're a bossy one today, Lockwood. Don't get your knickers in a twist."
"Go on. Get out of my house, you twat."
"Anthony Lockwood! I never!"
As you leave his house, you swear that his laughter follows you into the night like a companion.

I know these have been requested already but I adore your 09 and cowboy Ghost/Roach/Soap art and would love to see more!! Also, do you have any cowboy/gunslinger headcanons for the three??
I, too, adore ’09 GhostRoachSoap AND cowboy/ranch life GhostRoachSoap so you absolutely WILL see more of them, I promise!!
As for ideas/hc for the cowboy au, it’s a lot more “ranch life” based than gunslingers so if you are into that, keep reading below the line!
If not, then you are more than welcome to skip over this :}
Disclaimer: Most of my ideas are a bit scattered so I apologize for the messy layout, I’ll try my best to keep it coherent. Also, this is not all of them I don’t want this to be overly long
Background:
The AU takes place in Roach’s family ranch where all three members have been discharged from duty.
In this AU, because I like happiness, there is no war over the horizon and is simply a group of people living their lives out on the rolling plains of either Texas or Tennessee— I’m leaning more towards Texas just because I know more about the agriculture of the Texas plains.
In this AU, the 141 & Co simply live their lives from either being retired/discharged/etc. While everyone is involved (except for Shepherd, eat shit and die Shepherd), they all do their own thing but primary attention is mainly on GhostRoachSoap
Roach (+ extended background):
Roach and his other 5 siblings have the ranch under their and their parent’s name. He and two of his siblings, the youngest and the second oldest, are more active in taking care of the ranch's needs now that their parents are well into their ages. The other three help ever so often with more minor things but they have their own families to tend to and his parents don't actually live in the ranch anymore (again, due to age) and live closer to the city.
Roach, however, is the main caretaker for the ranch. He spends the most time on the land and is often alone, that was until Ghost and Soap came
Headcanons;
His accent left when he joined the army. Came back tenfold after a week on the ranch.
Has a collection of cowboy hats and each one serves a purpose (although his favorite is his very worn-out Cattleman that he leaves by the front door to take on his way out)
Expert horse rider. I'm not saying you would see this man at the Rodeo, but he’s had his fair share of bucking broncos, and not ONCE has he been bucked off.
Though there are horses on the ranch, his horse is Estella— a Chestnut American Quarter Horse with three white socks (forelegs + right hind leg) and a star + stripe. She loves to chew on people’s clothes if they turn their backs on her.
Has slept in the barn before (multiple times) and regrets it every time (wouldn’t recommend it, very lumpy and you WILL wake up with straw in places you don’t want it to be)
LOVES cattle work, and hates paperwork 💀 (he lets Ghost, and his two other siblings take care of it) due to this, he is good at reading the animals and knowing when something is wrong!
Are good friends with the vet! (It’s his ex 💀) (They broke amicably though so it’s okay!!) (“So, like, when I kiss you??…. it’s gross” “OH thank God, I thought it was only me")
Gets SOOO distracted when Soap is picking the hay bales. Bff short circuits for a good minute before Ella gets miffed at him and throws her head back
Cows > sheep (will make an exception for baby lambs tho)
Soap:
Along with Ghost, realistically both would not actually retire in some rural Texas town but because I can, let's say they decided to retire to some rural Texas town.
Soap is the most recent member to the farm and took to it like a duck to water. (We'll ignore the times he forgot to lock the chicken coop). He was on active duty but after a close call that was too close to comfort, he decided that maybe it was time to retire. Price is the one that mentioned the ranch to him, although at the time he did not know it was a ranch.
All Price told him was “if you are looking for something a little different, take a look here" and looking he went.
Headcanons:
Not on the friendliest terms with the cattle dogs but boy do they LOVE him (they’ve tried to herd him multiple times and have succeeded) (he cusses both Ghost and Roach out for watching and letting it happen)
Loves the nitty gritty work. Hay bales? Check. Cleaning the stables? On it. Shearing the sheep? The Clippers are all warmed up already. If there’s a job that involves getting his hands dirty, he is the first in line
Sheep > cows
His horse is a Buckskin American Quarter Horse that he very proudly named Buck. This name came after Roach told him the color of his coat but was reinforced when Soap tried riding him and was almost bucked off. They became the best of pals after that, and Buck occasionally tries to nibble Soap’s mohawk for fun.
His favorite chore is feeding the animals! He loves watching them all flock to their food and munch away. He doesn't find it much of a chore as it fills him with such joy to see all the creatures he cares for flourish.
Gagged the first, second, and third time he saw a sheep give birth. Man has seen a soldier’s leg come clean off from a bomb and recovered in less than 5 minutes but BIRTH? Get the bucket ready.
Ghost:
Discharged after a mission had gone wrong, Ghost had no idea where to go. With no family to go back to and no friends to crash with, civilian life was looking very bleak until Price came to him with a plane ticket and an address to some rural town in Texas.
Ranch life was… different for Ghost. It wasn’t bad per say, and he can’t really find much to complain about, but it was just different. It is... steadier? softer? he's not too sure but at least it lets him sleep easier at night.
It took him and Roach a while to find a rhythm. It wasn’t easy and it was very awkward at first but eventually they were able to settle on something unique for them that worked out.
Headcanons:
Sheep > cows
He likes to roam around with the LGDs. He greatly respects their jobs and has grown a soft spot for them. He knows he’s not supposed to distract them, but he just can’t help himself and always gives them a good belly rub.
Became good friends with the farrier. Farrier does most of the talking but Ghost will join in here and there. He really likes learning about the Farrier's different methods and likes to watch him work on the horses. (Lowkey thinking about making Jackson the farrier bc why not)
One of my favorite personal hc's about Ghost is that he is shit at naming things so yeah, he named his horse, Horse. Roach almost took his horse privileges away because of it but anyway, his horse is not an AQH like Roach/Soap but is instead one of the two draft horses the ranch has! His horse is Blue Roan Clydesdale with a very splotchy coat that loves peppermints and loves napping her days away (she’s had three kids alright she deserves it)
Genuinely enjoys doing the ranch paperwork. Sure, he has to ask Roach here and there where some of the stuff is at but honestly? Could spend hours reading and organizing the books and such. He's very interested in the topics discussed.
Earliest riser. His favorite time of the day is just before the sun peaks over the horizon where everything is blue and foggy, where condensation sits on his skin, when the crickets are still chirping, and when the mourning doves are softly cooing. Roach wakes up soon after him.

Happy new year! I finished the cover for Chapter 23 (it's on Patreon) and felt compelled to collect all the previous covers together in one post.
The covers started off with the idea of mimicking the art styles often found on picture stones, being even more figurative and abstract than the style used in the comic itself. Over time they became less detailed but were always a fun departure that allowed me to play around with different layouts or design elements.
It was especially fun to bring in historic designs connected to cultures featured in the comic. Some specifics include:
Swirls inspired by Newgrange carvings for "The Thrall" and others that focus on Hedda/Saoirse.
Various Andalusian/Islamic design elements from the Mosque of Cordoba, the Madinat al-Zahra, and of course the Alhambra used in "Al Andalus" and "The Moor."
A magical stave is mixed with a hnefatafl board for the "Iceland" cover. The symbol is the Vegvísir stave meant to help someone find their way in rough weather. Arne also has a Helm of Awe on his chest in "The Skraeling." These staves would not have been used by Vikings (they're from the 17th century), but they look cool and that's reason enough to use them!
The "Homeward" cover features Arne split between a more Viking-like art style and one inspired by carvings from his birth culture, the Dorset.
Ogham inscription stones are the focus for "Freedom." They transliterate the Hail Mary prayer, which Hedda prays when we first meet her.
The ancient "red dancers" surround Angrboda's cave entrance in "Compensation." I already went into more detail about the red dancers in this post if you'd like to read more about them. They're really cool.
The cover for Chapter 23 also has a non-Viking inspired design to it, but it'll be a few weeks before it becomes public. If you'd like to see it now, and new pages as they're created, please consider joining my Patreon.
I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into my thought process and inspirations. History is full of amazing things and people have been creating art since they had time to do so. It's as close to time travel as we'll ever get.

Inside Sunrise Interview
Tumblr media
Inside Sunrise interview with Masayuki Ozaki and Kazuhiko Tamura. This is transcribed from an Anime News Network video linked below.
The Origin of Tiger & Bunny
Ozaki:
The idea for Tiger & Bunny came from two different roots. The first was Director Keiichi Sato's sentiments. To Director Sato, it's a story about heroes with mundane problems. The director said he wanted to depict a superhero drama with a sense of life to it. The other was my sentiments, as a producer. I wanted to depict the conflict and drama one sees when they've belonged to an organization for a while.
The impetus for the project came from the controversy over the competition swimsuits in the Beijing Olympics. I saw in an interview that wearing one particular kind of swimsuit gave you a chance at setting a record but, well, the athletes who had contracts with Japanese companies couldn't wear that fast swimsuit.
At the time, we were coming up with the project, so we thought the conflict of those athletes who belonged to those industries was very interesting and intriguing. And so we thought it would be nice to take the Director's desire to make a hero story, the story of heroes who have to bear the weight of sponsors, and depict the conflict, drama, and culture that lies behind all of that. So that's, well, how the idea came to fruition.
Tamura:
This is where we work on the storyboard for Tiger & Bunny. We're very particular about using pencil, and, um, the expression of performance, you could say. There are things you can't express without using pencil to depict motion, so we pay extra attention to those parts.
This is called the layout. A layout, you see, is this image, framed here by the screen. It's an image we use to make sure how it'll fit in the television frame. We use this as a base to create the key animation.
Oh, this character is Blue Rose. It's a scene where Blue Rose is drinking soda. It's part of a TV ad campaign in Japan. The drink is for one of the sponsors, but this is the test layout for that. We'll use this as a base to draw the animation.
Thoughts on the Characters
Ozaki:
When we were working on the costume design for the heroes of Tiger & Bunny, we paid special attention to their variety. There are 8 heroes who appear in this work, but from the start we had the idea that their suits should be diverse. We set the story in a near-future city that's anethnic melting pot, so the characters themselves were set to be a variety of races. There's a Russian character, a Chinese one, a Hispanic one, and a Japanese one too. We thought the hero suits should be designed to match those different characteristics.
Character Designer Masakazu Katsura, himself is very knowledgeable about superheroes. He loves superheroes, in particular, those from American comic books. Director Sato really liked that aspect as well. So Mr. Katsura pulled out a whole lot of ideas for what he wanted the superhero designs to be like. Fire emblem really is the kind of suit-wearing super hero you might find in American comic books.
A hero made with a bull as it's motif. Rock Bison is the kind of design you'll find in Japanese Tokusatsu, but not in American comics and that was the kind of variation we wanted it to have.
Tamura:
This right here is the CG check movie. We're running a check on the motion. We work on drawing the animation after we first make the CG.
Visual Effects Efforts
Ozaki:
Also, one of the visual aspects of Tiger & Bunny we were really conscientious about was depicting the heroes primarily through CG. The female character Blue Rose is the only one that's frequently hand drawn, but basically Tiger, Barnaby, and the others are all CG. They're designed to actually bear industry logos so since those industry logos would change over and over, we'd have to draw it over and over if they were hand drawn. That'd make it very difficult. But by making them CG, that kind of work, the swapping out of corporate logos, is not big deal.
One other reason is, we were keeping the world market in mind, and because of Pixar and Disney, CG animation is the visual style people around the world are most used to seeing. Hand-drawn animation certainly has its own good points, but in the end, we thought CG had the most universality and we designed each hero in CG. In doing it that way, we're able to come up with some pretty detailed imagery. For example, the hero Fire Emblem wears a cape, and that cape constantly flickers with fire as a pattern. If that was hand-drawn we couldn't do something like that. Those are the kinds of visual effects we focused on.
About Kotetsu
Ozaki:
The design for the character Kotetsu was clearly risky. For starters, he's middle-aged, has a beard, and is a single father. Characters like that in animation are, well, how do I say…it's a fact that they're hard for viewers to accept. The truth is, we were half hopeful and half fearful, but in the end we went with that design for the animation, and luckily, he's well accepted right now. We're actually getting word from the fans that they can empathize with him, and we're very happy to hear that reaction.
Kotetsu wasn't the only character, there's his partner, the younger Barnaby. This is a buddy story. By having another main character, we think we've established a very nice balance. Kotetsu's a middle-aged guy who used to be popular back in the day, but lately he's not doing so well. That's his character background. That said, there were things we wanted to illustrate thematically with him, like the importance of never giving up, of the bonds between people, things of that nature.
Plus, Hollywood movies, especially lately, are getting lots of sequels, and as the main character's actor gets older, they write the character to age with him. By part 4 or 5, he's already middle aged. Their refusal to give up, their continued fight, gave us some queues as well. You can say it's targeted more towards adults. As for me, I want to create dramas with universality, dramas that people of any generation can sympathize with and to keep making them in the future. That's what I hope for.

Prompt: How the OM! Brothers shop for groceries and stuff ft. me!
Pairing: NA
Genre: Headcanons, Crack
TW: NA
Tumblr media
Lucifer
This old man has memorised the layout of all his favourite stores. He makes a neat little list in a notebook. He will not type his list in the notes app of his DDD. And his list will be in the order of how he walks through the aisles.
Like, if the first few aisles of the store have foodstuff, those will be at the very top of the list. I add stuff to my list as and when I remember them, so if I ever make a list for him he will most definitely forget to buy something and then blame it on my lacking list-making skills (my mom does this).
No matter how many things we need to buy this man will NEVER take a cart. He will take 3 baskets if required, and give two of them to me. Also will not buy anything that is not on his list. Is ice cream on his list? No? Then I guess we're not getting it...
Man speedwalks through the store. Like there's no time to see which brand of chips I want, I take my eyes off him for one second and he's already at the checkout counter-
Gives everyone who takes their time deciding what to buy, yknow, like a normal person, a glare so intense you'd think they offended his entire lineage or something.
Might yell at me like once for being slow or something during our shopping trip, then make it up to me by buying me ice cream on the way home (Lucifer is an Asian parent confirmed)
Overall, I'd give him 7/10 because he does get the job done, but I will not be the first to volunteer to go with him.
Mammon
List? What list? Haha I'm gonna have to be the responsible adult here-
He never makes a list, because 'he remembers it all in his head anyway'. I'd make a list, then proceed to drag him everywhere, making him hold the stuff.
Complains a bit (a lot) about having to follow me around, but will shut up if I glare at him
Remembers what his brothers need, but always forgets stuff that he needs and when we get home he gives me his best puppy dog eyes and goes "Actually..."
With the amount of trouble this dork can get in I'm pretty sure we're banned from at least one store-
Doesn't care what I put in the cart as long as he can do the same.
We end up forgetting a few items and then having to go back to the store before Lucifer finds out. Then we get ourselves some smoothies as a reward :3
People would hate us because we're the kind of idiots to stand in an aisle taking up all the space while arguing very loudly about cereal brands-
5/10, we're both too easily distracted and absolute menaces when it comes to shopping.
Leviathan
My boy gets all his stuff from Akuzon so I dunno how I'd get him to come grocery shopping with me. If no one else is free that day, he might come with me. Though he'd try to convince me to order from Akuzon before placing a foot out the door-
Whose idea was it to let two socially-inept introverts shop without their assigned extrovert/ambivert? If there are no self-checkout counters we would play rock, paper, scissors to determine who makes small talk with the cashier.
We'll end up buying a lot of junk food and soda. Again I feel like I'd have to make the list and Levi would help with carrying the stuff but I'm sure he'd also add stuff that he wants.
Doesn't care much about like, the necessities? Like, it's ok with him if I wanna get fresh veggies or milk but he won't be one to suggest it if I don't.
Levi gets lost at one point because I'm bad at keeping track of people who come grocery shopping with me and I'm gonna get called to the front desk to get him.
On the way home I take him to the bookstore, get him some new manga and me new books for having survived that ordeal.
9/10, he's like a very well-behaved, anxious kid who occasionally tugs on your clothes and asks you if he can get his favourite bag of chips.
Satan
He won't like this, but he probably is like a toned-down version of Lucifer, except he makes the list in the notes app of his DDD.
Pretty flexible with what we can buy, he'd let me get what I want, within a limit though. Knows how to tell what is fresh and what isn't so I let him select the fruits and veggies
He also speedwalks, but holds my hand so I don't get lost <3
Meanwhile I'm trying to keep up without falling and apologizing to all the people I bump into. Ain't my fault I got little legs-
Hates it when people bump into him and don't apologize so my main job is making sure he doesn't blow up and get us thrown out of the store-
Definitely teases me when I can't reach something before being a gentleman and getting it for me
We end up going to a cat cafe before going home
10/10, I would enjoy it. Very much date vibes.
Asmodeus
He would happily follow me on my grocery runs.
Very easily distracted, I'd need to hold onto him so I dont lose him.
Very good at reminding me what needs to be bought. Has his own list of things that are needed.
Spends a ton of time and takes utmost care in choosing the best of everything. He has a good eye when it comes to stuff like this.
Knows exactly what his brothers like or need and makes my life so much more easier.
Will let me buy everything and anything I want because he is amazing like that.
Flirts with the cashier during checkout and gets us a discount. I aspire to be like him one day-
On the way home we end up going to boutiques so he can do his own little shopping~
9/10, as fun as it is going with him, I don't like being dressed up like a doll after a tiring day of getting groceries. Also won't help me put them away when we get home
Beelzebub
Beel is a sweetheart. I can see him always volunteering to go grocery shopping with me.
Another one I need to be cautious about, he might wander off if he finds something particularly appetizing. Will need to have something on hand to satiate his hunger.
He'd be content with following me around while carrying stuff. Occasionally pipes in when he sees something he heard his brothers wanted.
We will buy a ton of snacks. Now to keep him from opening any of those before we check out...
Probably wouldn't let me get everything I want, but will still be willing to let me get junk food as long as I promise to share them with him.
On the way home we go and have a meal at a restaurant, and then once we're home he helps me put everything away.
10/10, an absolute sweetheart as long as he has something to munch on while we work.
Belphegor
This little shit (derogatory).
This sadistic little bastard enjoys abusing his baby of the family privilege. Annoys the fuck out of me while we're in the store because he knows I'll try my best not to lose my composure in a public place.
The kind of asshole to pick something up and put it somewhere it's not supposed to be. Ever found a bar of soap next to rows of cereals? It's his handiwork, and he's so smug about it I swear-
Gets lost on purpose, to the point where I contemplate leaving him in the store and going home on my own.
Has. To. Comment. On. Every. Single. Thing. I. Get. That is until I threaten to not get the detergent he likes, and suddenly he's a good boy helping me by holding everything
Could care less about what I buy as long as I buy enough for him, Beel and me to share, but like I said before, will comment on everything.
We come straight home and this man just leaves me in the kitchen alone?? He won't help me put away the groceries, he goes straight to his bed.
3/10, there is very little chance I won't try to strangle him on the way back home out of frustration.

Chapter 17 Warnings: Yandere, Possessive, Obsession, Small bit of angst
Prev | Next
Hoseok leads you off somewhere distant. Up the large stairs and towards the west wing. You take a chance to look at the walls and paintings that adorn them. From abstract art to full fledged pieces of what you presume to be other vampires. Vampires who once ruled these walls. There's one in particular that catches your attention. A man and several women seated and around them are seven young men. You immediately recognize one of them as Jimin and your eyes go to search for Hoseok but before you can find him you're dragged off and away. Hoseok continues to pull on your arm until you reach a door. He opens it to reveal a lavished bedroom the curtains are drawn closed and reveal to be thick cream material with lace layered on top. His bed is a four poster with an emerald green and cream colored sheets. You look around as he releases your hand and you find yourself drawn to his entertainment center. It's made out of glass as are his nightstands but what catches your eye are the pictures he has lying on top of them. They're pictures of children. Children playing, children holding each other in tight hugs. There's one of a teenager who looks much like Hoseok holding a woman close to his side - a heart shaped smile taking over his face. If it weren't for her facial features that resembled him so much- his nose, cheekbones, and smile being mirror images - you would have thought she might be his sister or possibly a lover.
Hoseok checks over his things the servants brought while you stare at the picture and huffs when he gets to your bag.
You look over to him see he has it open and stares down into it with a disapproving gaze.
"What" you ask.
He looks up at you with a frown. "Nothing it's just," he starts but then hums. "I thought you would have more things."
You scratch the back of your neck in slight discomfort. "I didn't need a lot of stuff and I still don't so don't worry about it."
He shakes his head. "We'll change that soon enough."
It's like he didn't hear a word that you said but you can't bring yourself to fight him. You're hungry and thirsty and you voice that aloud to him.
He pouts as he hums. "We'll get something to eat in a minute. Let me just put your stuff away."
You turn away from the picture you were staring at and face him. "Where are you going to put my stuff?"
"In the closet with mine." He smiles. "I have some extra room in there so it only seems right."
You don't know what to say to that so you go back to snooping around his room. You normally are not like this but you want to get a layout of your prison. Have an idea where things are and have an escape plan if needed.
You walk over to the curtains and peek through them. It's night time so you know every single vampire is active right now. Your eyes roam over what you can see and notice the entire backyard is gated with long black metal rods. It goes on past the house and you note that the front must be gated too. You didn't notice that before and now that you do it leaves you feeling a little defeated.
"Of course," you mumble.
You take the time to look over everything else and notice a garden takes up the majority of the space. You can't tell what flowers they are from this distance but you also notice a bunch of hedges in the shape of a miniature maze. Past it you see the top of something else but can't make out what it is. Lights light up the walkway leading to all of this just like in the front and you have half a mind to check it out. If not later then maybe tomorrow.
"Okay that's that."
Hoseok makes you jump with his overly joyful voice. You were taking in the silence just fine before he reminded you of his presence.
He smiles your way. "Everything has been put away. How about we get something to eat now? Maybe there's still something left over from earlier's dinner. If not we can order something?"
You bite your lip with a shrug.
He doesn't say anything about your suddenly timid attitude but he goes to take your hand in his. You don't try to fight him off but you're clearly nervous. Knowing how trapped you are in here will do that to you.
"Come on."
He leads you out of his bedroom that you guess you'll be sharing with him. That thought alone leaves you feeling sick. Why couldn't you have a room of your own? You question this out loud and it makes Hoseok frown.
"Why would you be alone if we're together? It's only right for couples to stay with each other."
Your brows furrow as you frown. You lick your lips prepared to say something but his grip on your hand tightens.
"Just be aware how utterly alone you are without me here. You might as well accept it."
Your nostrils flare as your eyes widen a fraction for just a second. A second enough for Hoseok to notice before a chilling smile takes over his face.
You look forward and try to ignore the way your heart beats erratically. You truly are trapped.
Hoseok leads you down the stairs and over to the east wing towards the kitchen. He startles a few servants at his sudden entrance but they calm down when they notice who it is, but their curiosity is piqued when they see you.
"Master Hoseok," one of them says. He has a gentle smile towards his Master. "You're back."
"I am," Hoseok smiles. "I came to see if there were any left over food from dinner."
"Of course! We knew you and Masters Jungkook and Seokjin would be back tonight so we saved some for you."
Hoseok nods. "Is there enough for my partner?"
"Partner?" Another asks. She looks confused as she looks between you two.
"Yes I should introduce you." Hoseok holds your hands up to show how they are entwined. "Meet Y/N. She's my lover. We met over at the Baek's. We fell in love and now she's here. She'll be living with us from now on."
Your eyes widen when he said you both were in love. You look over to the servants with a desperate look that catches their attention real quick. They don't say anything but watch as you shake your head subtlety. Not enough to garner Hoseok's attention but theirs alone. One of them smiles though it seems forced as she hesitantly bows towards you.
"Uh um, welcome Lady Y/N. I-It's nice to meet you."
The other three servants follow her movements and bow as well but when they stand up they can see the way your eyes begin to water.
You didn't want this. Not at all.
The air feels awkward then with no one knowing what to do. It's until the first servant that greeted Hoseok in the beginning that everyone begins to move.
"I'm sure there's enough for Lady Y/N. You know we always make enough seeing as Master Jungkook has quite the appetite."
A maid goes to retrieve the refrigerated food. Another gathers plates and glasses and warms up the food.
"You can wait in the dining room, Master Hoseok. We'll bring it out for you two shortly."
Hoseok smiles before leading the two of you off. You give one last glance back towards the servants - a desperate look on your face. They notice it but choose to instead look down or away from you. It breaks your heart.
The two of you enter the next room and you are greeted by a large table. Up close you realize it's made out of black mahogany and it makes you raise a brow. You realize how expensive it must be but don't say a word about. Hoseok picks out a seat for you where you sit down. Shortly after he takes his place next to you and sighs with a smile.
"Our cooks are exceptional so I know you'll enjoy the food."
You only hum in response as you look down at the table. The very expensive table. You know mahogany when you see one and only because you looked up different types of furnishings when you were looking for a desk for yourself. It was an option but too expensive. More than what you could afford despite how much money you saved which is more than likely gone because you doubt Hyung-Won would allow you to access your bank account now. The idea of it just makes you rub your hand over your face in irritation. You brought the card with you anyways but you still doubt it.
"Everything okay, my love?"
You grit your teeth and swallow down your answer. It would have come off rude and you're trying to play it nice right now. You already irritated him once tonight. You don't want to push your luck to see what he would do to you in punishment.
You sigh deeply and give a nod. "I'm just a little tired. The nap in the car wasn't enough."
He hums as he places a hand on the back of your neck to massage. "I imagine. You should try to stay up though. Have your schedule in tandem with mine. Now that we're together I'd like to spend more time with you rather than the few short hours of the day."
You purse your lips but make no room to respond. You won't respond. You just can't.
A few minutes pass by before the doors open and in come in the servants from the kitchen with food and drinks.
Hoseok let's out loud "Oh-ho" in excitement and breathes in the smell of food. Placed before you two is a plate of japchae and on a smaller plate an egg custard. A glass of wine is served as well and it's within more silence do you start to eat your food.
All that's heard are the slurps as you both enjoy your meal. It was very good and you enjoy it to the fullest. From the meat to the vegetables to the noodles - it all tasted fantastic, but you weren't about to let Hoseok know about that.
You don't realize how quiet Hoseok really is at the dinner table with no willing participant is around for conversation. You prefer it though because you really didn't feel like talking.
As soon as you're done your food you start on the custard. The texture is smooth and comes apart deliciously in your mouth. You take a sip of your wine and enjoy it as well but again you won't tell Hoseok that.
Hoseok giggles as he looks your way before wiping his lips. "You left your plate clean."
You grunt.
He giggles again but doesn't say anything else as he begins his dessert. More preferable silence until the doors open up and reveal Lords Seokjin and Jungkook.
"Ah I see you two already made it to the dinner table." Seokjin announces with a smile.
"And we already finished up." Hoseok says.
Seokjin sucks his teeth as Jungkook goes to sit.
"I guess you won't be accompanying us tonight then?"
"You should have come here earlier if that's the case Jwan."
Jwan? Was that his nickname for his brother? You don't realize how close the two are until now as Seokjin let's out an unusual laugh. He takes in the nickname just fine and even returns the favor by calling Hoseok "Hobi."
Hobi? You guess they kept it together - kept it professional in front of your former Masters because they were revealing a side of themselves they haven't before.
"Kooky." Seokjin calls for the youngest's attention.
The young vampire stretches and yawns loudly before answering Seokjin back.
"What?"
"What are you doing after this?"
Jungkook shrugs. "Probably play some games."
"Let's play together. Rock, paper, scissors to see who gets player 1."
"No."
"Ah come on Kooky my little dongsaeng. Don't hurt your brother's feelings like that."
You freeze when you hear a little giggle escape the young one. He was capable of laughing?
"No because if you win you'll never shut up about it. I can play on my own."
"Ya-"
"You guys are so loud." Hoseok laughs.
God everything felt so normal around you and you hated it. How they could bring their walls down and laugh with one another despite holding you hostage. It almost makes you want to scream and cry but you know you have to play it cool because you'll gain nothing from throwing a tantrum.
The men squabble and laugh together like it's nothing until soon enough Seokjin's and Jungkook's dinner comes in. Their eyes light up as it's brought to them and both yours and Hoseok's empty plates are taken away.
Seokjin hums around a mouthful of food before swallowing. "What are you two going to do now?"
He questions you and Hoseok.
"Well I was planning on giving her a tour so that way she doesn't get lost without me around."
A tour? That could actually help you in advantage if given the chance to escape. Clearly it's caught your attention because Seokjin notices the way you perk up. He smiles in your direction before talking to Hoseok.
"I think that's a good idea. Have fun you two!"
You can only hum in response and are quick to stand up along with Hoseok. He seems to notice your determination and it brings a smile to his face.
"Where would you like to start?"
You shrug. "Anywhere really."
"Since we're already down stairs let's start from here then."
You nod as he reaches for your hand. It's the one time you don't frown about it but it's because you're somewhat excited. If you can find a way to escape you might be able to do so with Hoseok's help. He wouldn't know of course but this is your first step.
He pulls you out of the dining room before inhaling deeply to talk. "So you know already this is the dining room and over there is the kitchen. He brings you further down the hall to show you a room without a door.
"This is the playroom. Everything from consoles, PCs, pool, foosball - you name it, we have it."
You look around the room and it looks far different from the one back at your former Masters' home. It looks bigger to help accommodate everything inside. The walls are like an eggplant purple as are a few of the chairs sat around a table. Behind it is a bookcase lined up with a variety of board games. Across from this setup is a long L-shaped, black couch and in front of that is a large screen TV with consoles of every type beneath them in an entertainment center. Much like the one in Hyun-Woo's room it has games lining each side of the TV with a rack of controllers rested on the entertainment center. Behind that are the pool and foosball tables sat right next to each other. Pressed up against the wall are rows of PCs with monitors, a lit up keyboard and mouse along with headphones resting upon their respective stands. Across from that is a doorway that's closed and Hoseok leads you to it to show you what's inside.
"In here," he says as he goes to open it. "Is the theater room."
You look inside to see there's a giant screen that takes up the wall with speakers beneath it and across from them are two rows of recliners with cup holders on the arm rest.
"Some times on a weekend, if we're free, we'll watch a movie together. With you here you're welcomed to join us."
You hum.
He leads you out of the theater and playroom to lead you further down the hall to where you find a sliding door to the outside.
"And this, my love. This leads out to the garden. Would you like to see?"
Before you can properly formulate a verbal answer you nod.
He chuckles at what he perceives to be your enthusiasm before sliding the door open to let the two of you out.
The Summer air has cooled down with the moon out. A soft breeze blows by and along with it comes the sound of rustling foliage. Hoseok continues to lead you down into it from the stone walkway that leads up to the door where you stand. There's no patio like at Hyun-Woo's but a big shade structure that covers over the stone platform. Beneath the structure are gray couches with purple pillows with a glass stand on either side.
You don't get to admire it for long as Hoseok continues to lead you down the walkway. Your path is lit by little lights that are stuck into the grassy ground. It brightens your path enough so you can see all of the beautiful flowers around you. You can see some of them. From climbing trees with branches filled with lilac wisteria, bushes of blue and purple hydrangeas as well as rows upon rows of herbaceous clematis. You can't see what else there is but from what you can see it looks beautiful. All of it does.
"It's beautiful," you wistfully say. You don't know why but it makes you feel sad. Maybe because it reminds you so much of your garden work from back home. Well, what was once your home.
"Hey." Hoseok gently calls for your attention.
You look over to him and he has a sweet smile plastered onto his face. It bothers you so much the way he looks at you. Like he's in love.
"Life is going to be great for you living here. I promise you that."
His hand caresses your face and you have to fight with yourself to not pull away, but your frown is evident. He doesn't say anything about it. Probably assuming it has less to do with him than your change in housing.
He squeezes your hand in what you believe to be his reassurance before he leads you back towards the estate.
"We can explore more of this during the day. Don't want for us to get lost in the maze at night." He winks like he's telling a joke but you don't react to it.
As soon as you both are in he continues the tour. He eventually takes you the library which isn't far from the exit to the garden. You remember what he told you back in your formal home about how much you'll love it. It's spacious with rows upon rows of books. Bookshelves also line the middle of the room and they're filled to the brim with books as well. Your eyes widen at the sight of it all. Hoseok wasn't kidding when he mentioned how expansive the library is. You somewhat recall how he mentioned it was all due to his brother's interest. You wonder if it's any of the ones you met so far.
You walk further into the room to see tables around it with seats and a tall window with a nook and small pillows. It looked like something out of a fairytale and you imagined how nice it would look with the sun pooling in.
Before you could see or say anything though Hoseok pulls on your hand.
"You're welcome to come here whenever you like. For now though let's continue the tour."
You let him drag you away and you think you just might take his word on that. If you're escape fails you'll have a room to hide out in away from him. That's if you can even try to escape. So far you know the entire place is gated. Hopefully that won't put a wrench in your plans.
Hoseok takes you further around the place until he points out a few studies. The doors are closed but he mentions they belong to his brothers.
"There's seven of us and we need our own places to work." He opens the door to his study and shows you what's inside.
It looks like how any study would look. A desk along with small built in bookshelves behind it. The desk is made up of the same black mahogany from the dining room. You briefly wonder if he got it because of that or got the dining room table because of his desk. On top of it is a monitor plugged into his computer. Unlike the playroom his keyboard and mouse don't light up. The chair is a black ergonomic one that'll surely support his back. In the rest of the room is a long black couch to rest on and and a few plushies decorating the floor. You wouldn't have expected him to have something like that but you don't question it.
"You're welcome to rest here when I'm working. I wouldn't mind having your presence around." He raises your hand to kiss the back of it.
You can't help but cringe. You hate how he tries to pamper you with love and affection when you don't want any of it. You have to remind yourself to play it cool because now you're in the lion's den with little ways to escape. He says nothing about your reaction and you hoped it's because he really didn't notice.
He gives a contented sigh before leading you both back into the hall. Once the door is closed he brings you around to go back up the stairs.
"It's not necessary but to avoid you accidentally snooping around where you shouldn't - I'll show you where my brothers' rooms are."
You're silent as he brings you towards the east wing and immediately starts to point the rooms out.
"This one here is Namjoon's room. I've mentioned him before to you. The one that has an interest in books. I don't think he's here right now but when he is I'll introduce him to you."
The next is a few feet away and he points to it as well.
"Here is Yoongi's room. He might be home?" He turns his head in thought before knocking on the door. "He usually is. If not here then maybe in his stu-" Before he can finish the sentence the door opens.
A head full of long hair peeks out as he squints from the lighting in the halls. A face you could only explain as cute looks between you two before he yawns.
"Oh Yoongi!" Hoseok smiles. "I wasn't sure if you were here or in your study. Did I wake you up?"
Yoongi hums as he blinks slowly. "Everything okay?" His voice is deep and raspy from just waking up.
Hoseok nods. "I just wanted to introduce you to someone."
As if just realizing you are there, Yoongi's brow raises in your direction.
"This is Y/N. She'll be living with us from now on."
At that Yoongi's attention snaps back to Hoseok.
"Why," he asks.
"Because," Hoseok starts.
And here it comes, you think.
"She's my lover. We met at the Baek's."
Yoongi's lips part in small confusion before he shakes his head. "Um, okay? Uh congrats I guess?"
Hoseok chuckles. "We should leave you alone to rest up. You must've been working late again, right?"
His brother hums. "It's okay. I woke up a few minutes before you knocked. I just needed an excuse to get up."
"Ah, then I'll leave you to it, bro."
Yoongi hums again before closing the door.
"And that's my brother! The second oldest of us. Seokjin is the oldest."
You don't know what to say to that. You could barely formulate an answer as your brain is still processing that interaction. His brother didn't seem to care to know about the specifics between you and Hoseok. You wonder if he would have known the full truth would he be on Hoseok's side like Seokjin and Jungkook or be against it, but now you'll never know.
Hoseok tugs your hand as he goes further down the hall but on the opposite side.
"This is Taehyung's room. He might be home. Let's see." He knocks on the door and you wait for an answer.
As soon as the door opens your brows raise when you see Jimin instead. He leans up against the door way as he looks you up and down.
"Well hello, beautiful. What brings you here?"
You frown at him as Hoseok grits through his teeth "Knock it off. Where's Taehyung?"
Jimin only smirks before looking over his shoulder.
At the call of his name a tall vampire with fluffy hair walks over. Like a marble statue made in likeness to the gods Taehyung makes his appearance to you and you have to physically stop yourself from gasping.
"Taehyung," Hoseok starts. "This is Y/N. Y/N this is Taehyung. One of our youngest along with Jimin." He grumbles out the latter's name and it only makes Jimin's smile grow wider.
"Oh," Taehyung extends his hand. "Nice to meet you." A boxy smile takes over his features.
"She's Hoseok's girlfriend." Jimin chuckles.
At this Taehyung's brows raise up across his forehead before he looks between you two. Your brows are furrowed and you're clearly feeling uncomfortable while Hoseok looks like the complete opposite.
"I see." It's all Taehyung says but he doesn't question Jimin's words.
You hope it's because he notices that something is wrong about you two but he doesn't say so out loud.
"Well, it's nice to meet you then." He smiles but it doesn't really reach his eyes.
"It's always a pleasure seeing you." Jimin states but all it does is make your frown grow deeper.
Hoseok's grip on your hand tightens before he grumbles out a "See you" to his brothers. He leads you back towards the west wing to show you the rest of the place as Jimin's laugh rings out behind you.
You can tell Hoseok is not in the mood and it makes your heart skip a beat. You don't like it when he's angry because it makes your fear of him all the more evident. He doesn't say anything as you walk away and you follow behind him like a frightened prey. It's as you two are passing that one painting that caught your eye before do you stop walking. Hoseok feels your resistance and he's about to pull on you until he looks back and sees you staring at the picture. He releases your hand as he comes to stand by you as you both take in the painting. You say nothing and wonder if he won't either until his lips part to speak.
"That's my family."
You look at him before looking at the painting again.
You see eight men standing behind five seated women. You recognize Hoseok, Seokjin, Yoongi, Jimin, Jungkook, and Taehyung but not the other two.
"Who's who," you ask.
"Well you know the ones that you met. This one right here," he points to the man who is just as beautiful as his brothers. "Is Namjoon. He's the one that isn't home right now and this one in the middle is our father."
That explained that but who were the women?
"And the women," you ask. Were they his sisters?
"Those are our mothers."
Your head snaps in his direction - confusion laced into your features. Hoseok laughs at your expression before he goes on to explain.
"Not all of us share the same mother. This one is mine," he points to the woman who you remember seeing in that one photo in his room. The one where Hoseok was a teenager. "This is Seokjin's, Namjoon's, and Taehyung's mother. And this is Yoongi's, Jungkook's and that one is Jimin's.
It never occurred to you that this was a thing. One man and five women in a relationship. Are they still in a relationship? You ask this out loud and Hoseok nods with a hum.
"I know it seems unconventional but they are in love just like we are."
Just like you were? Hoseok wasn't completely deluded you know that. Otherwise he wouldn't fight with you and make you feel desperate and alone if you so much as went against him. It makes you think what he means by that until something sickening clicks within you. He didn't mean...
"Did," you pause before you try to rephrase what you're trying to say. "Were they exactly like us?"
Hoseok laughs. "No, baby. Not like that. What we have is exceptional."
A sigh of relief leaves you at that. So Hoseok was the exception, but just him alone? You feel like something must be off with his brothers. Maybe not all of them but definitely some. Seokjin's and Jungkook's disinterest in wanting to help you out is one.
You look back up at the picture and sigh. You wonder if his parents know their son would turn out like this. With the way his brothers shrug it off you guess they didn't care or they might have done something to make him feel like what he was doing was right because someone as possessive as him - that just doesn't happen over night.
You feel Hoseok's hand come to rest on your lower back.
"Come," he says. "Let's go so I can show you where Seokjin's and Jungkook's rooms are."
"What about Jimin's?" You don't know why you ask about the other vampire that clearly is getting on Hoseok's bad side. You expect him to get angry but he just hums.
"It's actually next to Taehyung's. Just know that. Outside of that stay away from him. All he's capable of doing is causing trouble."
You give a soft "Oh" before he takes you down the hall.
A few feet in he stops at a door and juts his chin towards it. "This is Seokjin's room and the next one over you already know is mine. Across from here though is Jungkook's and the rest of the rooms around here are empty for guests."
Knowing how many of the brothers there are makes you nervous. How would you be able to get out without being noticed? That didn't count the help.
"Where do your servants live?" You needed to know.
"In a campus out back. Much like it is in your formal home."
You hum. "Do any of them live here?"
He shakes his head. "That's the difference between us and the Baek's. So many of us already live here and that's not including when family comes to visit so it's for the best they do not."
You purse your lips in thought. You also have to have an idea of the servants' schedule. So much so that you have to keep an eye out for. It makes you want to sigh in defeat but you don't want to call it quits just yet.
The first thing you'll need to do is check your bank account. See if it's still accessible. You'll need your laptop for that and will have to access it during a time where you're left alone. You don't want Hoseok to know what you're doing and why. Maybe when he's asleep or showering - anything really. So long as he's not over your shoulder.
"What has you thinking so hard, pretty girl?"
His question catches you off guard. You're quick to shake your head no before parting your lips to speak.
"Nothing. I'm just a little out of it that's all."
Hoseok hums as he pulls you into his arms. You grow stiff in his hold as he presses your chests together - his chin resting on your shoulder. You don't know what to do and so your arms hang limply by your sides. He inhales deeply before releasing it all into a sigh. The two of you are like this for a minute or so before he pulls back a little to kiss your neck.
Your body grows even stiffer and you nearly pull back from his hold. He gives you another kiss this one closer to your jaw before he pulls back to stare at you. His eyes are heavy with something unknown to you but you look away in nervousness. His hand comes up to caress your face until he places his fingers and thumb on either side of your face.
"Look at me."
You don't want to but you're afraid of what he might do to you if you don't. Warily, you look into his direction to take in his unreadable expression. His hold on your face is light but you know he's capable of squeezing you and hard. The idea of it makes your eyes water but you don't know if it's because of that or because you haven't blinked.
Hoseok sighs as he angles your head closer to his own. You see him work his jaw before he gives you a barely there smile.
"Welcome home, beautiful."
Your eyes can't stay open any longer and so they close. A single tear makes its way down your face as they open again and Hoseok watches it trail down. He kisses your cheek before pulling back but not far enough. It makes you want to cry but you try to stay strong.
"It's about that time you need your fix, right?"
You haven't even thought about that. You've been so preoccupied with going into survival mode that it slipped your mind. You haven't experienced withdrawals yet but you suspect it's either out of pure luck or because you're adrenaline is at an all time high and you barely felt the withdrawals because of it.
Hoseok questioningly hums and it's then you realize he wants to hear your answer. You lick your lips and he watches the action. Your throat suddenly feels parched as you try to swallow your spit. The gulp is loud but it does nothing to moisturize your throat. Your eyes begin to water again but this time out of helplessness.
You didn't want to go through those painful withdrawals again. Never ever again and so you do what you can only do. You nod pathetically.
Hoseok smiles at your response and leans his head in to yours until your lips touch. The kiss on your end is hesitant and it takes his tongue to peek through to make you open your mouth. With more hesitancy do you part your teeth to allow his tongue to touch your own and it's then do you feel it. That blissful feeling that has you pulling him in for more.
Oh how low you have fallen.

Let's talk about Eve...
Tumblr media
Eve is a very interesting character, so let's analyze her character. Eve is the second-to last boss in No Straight Roads, she's, as Kliff quotes, "Going to be the toughest artist to beat." Eve's stage and music reflect her personality but we'll get to that later. Eve has a very interesting design, with it being asymmetrical. Now let's get into cannon interactions during her fight and look over her character.
Tumblr media
Now we know from cannon interactions and her 3 videos you can collect, that she supposedly had a past relationship with Zuke back when she was in college. Now she calls Mayday "pedestrian girl" when she's with Zuke and I might have an idea why she doesn't like Mayday. She has alot of Insecurities, let me explain why I think that.
First she sees Zuke with Mayday and immediately doesn't like her, trying to convince Zuke to come back to her. This is a common thing people feel because they think the other person was better than they could have been with their ex. It's implied/may be hinted at in her videos you collect that she's insecure about her appearance.
I could be wrong about her feeling insecure, but the implications are there. Her stage changes the angrier and more emotional she gets, again we'll talk about that later.
Tumblr media
Let's talk about Eve's name and her appearance more. We know that her name used to be Nadia, so why did she change it? It may be that she wanted to leave her past behind, start a new life with a new identity. Or, it could be that her past hurt and she wanted to seal it away, locked in a metaphorical box. Again this is simply speculation and an analysis of her character and the implications of her character.
Like I stated earlier, her design is asymmetrical but symmetrical at the same time. Her design is eccentric and loud. You can't help but to look at her. Her design accentuates her personality, which is bold, eccentric, artistic, and calm. It represents her now, in the present.
I could go on but there's one more thing we need to talk about.
Tumblr media
youtube
let's talk about her stage and music. Her stage is just as eccentric as she is. Changing its layout as Eve sees fit. Mayday's side is a lot more aggressive and angry while Zuke's is more calm and serene. On extreme mode the halls turn upside down, making it harder to beat her. It seems Eve can manipulate her gallery using her mind and simply thinking about how she wants it to look.
Her music is very synthwave like. It being calm while still having harsher sounds. Again, May's side is more harsher while Zuke's is more calmer. This signifies how she feels about them, being angry at May but calmer to Zuke. This changes when both sides come together creating this ethereal yet angry sound.
I hope I worded that right.
Tumblr media
Eve is a very interesting character and there's a lot to her than people realize. I hope you guys liked this little character analysis.

Meet 24 hour — they're ready to cheer you up, well…24 hours a day!
2019. Despite both not being really fond of publicity, it seems like the idea of making a band together made them work on their social awkwardness and, by publishing their fresh version of Calamari Inkantation, they got the attention of Inkopolis' cephalings. Soon after that Off the Hook finally were ready for their tour and their place was offered to 24 — which, while being quite unexpected, but was accepted by them.
Tumblr media
Sango is a beginner DJ with a potential, but not with the most expressive face, trying hard to contribute in broadcast, although very often he can be seen gesticulating more than talking…
(even though Three is they/them non-binary in my headcanons, they went through some gender identity crisises before getting there. Timeline-wise in 2019 my Three uses he/she and identifies as man, and still has to figure out why it still feels not like it doesn't suit him. I will refer to Sango with he/she when I portray him in that time period, but with they/them when it's later, when they came out as non-binary!)
Tumblr media
Hachi is a brighter, easily impressionable and smiling octoling songwriter. She seems to be very easy to offend because of her emotionality, but she forgives easily.
(now, i'm not good at music at all, but i've made a track for Inkopolis News ft. 24hour!~ i tried making more but it all turned out bad and my pc couldn't handle my spicy beats, uhhh...)
Tumblr media
🎃SpookyFest!🎃
Hachi: It's time! Sango: 24 LIVE… Hachi: Yep-yep, that's us! I wonder what are current stages for… OH! Sango: ? (turned his head to Hachi, interested) Hachi: I think we might need to tell the exciting news first! Sango: You mean… Hachi: (nods) Ta-du-dum! It's Splatfest time! Sango: What's the topic this time? Hachi: We'll find out… In a minute!
[BAM!] Hachi: (puts her hands over her beak) Ah!! Wait, what day is it?! It can't be that soon… Splatoween, already?! Sango: Oooooh… (motioning fingers in a spooky manner) How would you like to spend your Splatoween…diving into the atmosphere by watching spooky films? Hachi: Or on a theme party? Hachi: Oooh… This one's tough… (taps finger on her cheek, thinking) Sango: It's pretty simple for me. Parties are not my thing. Sango: You can't turn off people around you when you're tired. Sango: But a TV always has this function. Hachi: Hm-hm~ But what about spending time with your friends in spooky or funny costumes? Hachi: You could make thematic decorations, food, games, anything! Hachi: I'm team Splatoween party. Sango: Have fun there, and I'm going to watch Nightmare before Squidmas. Hachi: Hey, I want to too..! (puffs her cheeks) Hmpff… Sango: I can wait for you if you want. Hachi: !.. Sango: (smirks) Well, what would you choose? Splatoween films or Splatoween party? Hachi: Don't forget to go to the Splatfest terminal and choose!!
~~~ Hachi: It looks like it's time to wrap up… Sango: Well, all day's the time… Hachi: …to let you shine!
(yep, i decided 'what do you mean no splatoween. here i have it right there.')
Tumblr media
SpookyFest art! Hachi and Sango doing both activities in the end. It's not like anyone's gonna find out that they're both too scared of scary movies and social interactions to do things on their own, right?
Bonus: 24 concept art!
(you can actually use this as a reference as long as you understand that some things here aren't finalised and if something doesn't seem right(like sango's teal color is different from his actual design here) — you better reference the artwork above! it's mostly good for small details like their headphones or hachi's skirt for example)
60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - C. Baker 6th Review
Doctor Who and the Mines of Terror - Video Game
Tumblr media
The Mines of Terror is actually the third Doctor Who game ever made. (We'll be coming back to the the second, text based, game later.) It is however the first to physically feature the Doctor on screen. Released in 1985, the incarnation featured here is unmistakably the Sixth Doctor.
Tumblr media
The story of the game is that the Master is mining a rare metal that will power a device that will allow him to re-write time to his liking; rearranging events to suit his needs.
The Doctor is sent by the time lords to stop him. He has to explore the mine for items that will help him progress and destroy the machine. All while surviving enemy encounters and making it back to the Tardis in one piece.
To help him in this task he is given the robot cat Splinx as a companion.
Tumblr media
As a cat person myself, I really like the concept of Splinx, but I'm not very sure what she does for the game. Apparently Splinx can carry more items then the Doctor could himself and so acts as an inventory holder within the game.... except the Doctor has to carry Splinx around in order to unitize this feature, thereby making such a game mechanic kind of pointless.
I understand that in 1985 there wasn't really the ability to create a secondary AI character that would follow the main character around, let alone the technology to create a multi-player experience, but it does kind of feel like a waste of an idea.
Like why couldn't you just program the main avatar to have that same inventory space on them as at all times to begin with?
Sadly Splinx would only ever reappear once more in an AU audio story.
Tumblr media
As for the game play itself, it's basically a Mario Bros/Donkey Kong rip off but with one big map to explore rather then multiple linear levels. You can go back, forth, up, or down, at any point you wish, and the game expects you to back track to different areas to collect more stuff.
The game ends when you either run out of lives or return to the Tardis. However, while you can re-enter the Tardis at any time, it won't be considered a true win until you've collected everything.
Tumblr media
Where Mines of Terror fails, is the same reason as the First Adventure, bad stage design.
While one could argue that this third outing is marginally better then the first, it still is thwarted by the strange need to be 'organic'. Craggy, jagged lines and slopping platforms make up the ground layout, while the ceiling will hang too low and uneven in certain places.
All this, plus a nerfed jump, makes platforming and exploring difficult. Now add in a zoomed in camera that you have to wait on to move with you to see ahead which forces you to make leaps of faith constantly and you have a very frustrating experience.
Tumblr media
I genuinely can't recommend this game to anyone other then the most hard core enthusiast. You're better off watching a lets play on youtube or reading the game manual if you want to experience the story.
Love your Royal AU! Do you have an idea for what kind of consort ruler Dick would be? And what do Slade's men think about him?
Thank you!! 💕
Even as a consort Dick will do everything he can to help the people he rules over. He always had the people of Gotham in his mind and heart, and now that he lives in Defiance it still hasn't changed - he just cares about more people now.
As the king's consort, Dick is meant to accompany Slade in all meetings, even the most important ones, but no one really expected him to do anything there. Everyone thought that he would just sit at Slade's side like a 'pretty thing from a foreign country he is'. What a surprise it was when Dick just started giving solutions to the council's problems, his voice quiet but firm. The first time it happened, his hands were twisted in the material of his clothes and he kept glancing at Slade, nervous if he should be really speaking but unable to stay quiet when he has a way to help them out.
With time, as he understands that Slade doesnt mind him speaking up - on the contrary, Slade is at times even impressed by him - he gets more confident and even comes up with ideas of his own on how to help out their people more.
As for Slade's men, they absolutely adore him. At first they were keeping their eye on Dick all the time because he was from the enemy's country and they didn't know much about him overall. But the longer Dick lived in Defiance with Slade, the more they got to know him and the more they grew fond of him.
At first everyone thought that Dick would be cold and mean to them because they all know how proper and cold nobles from Gotham can be but Dick is nothing like that. No, he always stops in the hallways to greet them properly and talks to them all the time, always with a smile.
Wintergreen got protective of him very quickly too! Slade is really annoyed by it all (but it's more because he's just jealous 🤭)
A really short scene for this;;
/ / /
Dick was on his way to have dinner with his husband, already a few minutes late, when the man walked out from around the corner.
"Sir Isherwood!" Dick called out excitedly. His cloak pooled around his feet as he walked over to the man with a smile, his maids rushing after him. "I haven't seen you in so long! How are you today?"
"Your Majesty." David bowed with a small smile. "It's been quite some time indeed. I'm well, I was just on my way to the library."
"Ah, I see. Are you going there for business or pleasure?"
"Business this time I'm afraid, Your Majesty." The man hummed and Dick nodded sympathetically.
"Is there anything I could help you with?" he asked.
"Thank you, but it's just a minor research this time. It won't take me long and I'm sure you have much more important matters to attend to than looking through a few papers with me."
"Well, if you're sure." Dick smiled. "Perhaps I'll see you later then. I was planning to visit the library after dinner so maybe we'll meet there."
Isherwood opened his lips to answer when another voice spoke up from the end of the hall, "Ah, sir Isherwood. So you're the reason my husband is late for dinner."
"Your Majesty." Dick straightened immediately and inclined his head in a bow.
Slade walked over to them with a teasing smirk on his lips. "I was beginning to fear you got lost on your way to the dining room, Richard."
"Oh, I'm sure His Majesty is already very familiar with our castle's layout." Wintergreen, who stood on the king's side, teased Dick with a warm smile.
Slade’s smile widened a bit at the implication, at the same time as blush began to cover Dick’s cheeks. It wasn’t his fault he got lost once or twice when he first moved to Defiance’s castle! It was so much different than his home back in Gotham and so no one could blame him for the time when he walked into the wrong room while searching for the gardens.
“I am now.” he assured, looking down in embarrassment. “And I apologize for making you wait, Your Majesty.”
“It’s no problem at all.” Slade hummed. His fingers wrapped gently around Dick’s hand. "I was-"
"Oh, and pardon me for saying this,” Wintergreen spoke up again, before Slade could say anything more. “but you happen to be late for dinner quite some times yourself, Your Majesty."
"Yes thank you, Billy, that was very helpful." Slade replied drily.
"Always happy to serve."
Dick hid his smile behind the palm of his hand.
"I apologize as well, my king." Isherwood bowed with a smile on his own. "I was just exchanging pleasantries with His Majesty. It wasn't my intention to take so much of his time."
"No need to apologize." Slade dismissed with a wave of his hand. "You didn't do anything wrong. Richard, why don't you go ahead now? I'll join you in a minute."
"As you wish, Your Majesty." Dick nodded swiftly, before glancing at the men beside them. "Sir Isherwood, sir Wintergreen."
"Your Majesty." The knights answered in union and bowed.
Slade stepped closer to Dick and pressed his lips to his husband's wrist. Dick gasped softly at the gesture and the moment Slade let go of him, he hurried away with red cheeks. They all looked after him until he disappeared behind the corner.
"How come he talks to you all happily like that but still gets shy and stiff whenever I'm around?" Slade heaved a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "We've been married for quite some time now."
"Well..." Billy started with a pointed look. "I can name a few reasons why he gets withdrawn with you-"
"That won't be necessary, Billy." Slade gritted out through clenched teeth, making the man smile.
"Maybe His Majesty is still getting used to our customs." Isherwood offered helpfully. "You know that Gotham people aren't as open with showing affection as we are."
"Or maybe it's just because-"
"Alright, Wintergreen, get out. I don't want to see you right now."
"Your Majesty-"
"Out. Go help Isherwood with his research."
"Alright, alright."
/ / /
((I don't like how this turned out very much fkdkdjdj but you get the gist, Dick talks with Slade's men all the time but still is overwhelmed with Slade’s presence and Slade is jealous. Also, Billy loves teasing Slade about it))
Marriage Toxin Volume 1: A Matchmaker Made In Heaven
Tumblr media
Yes yes I'm a little late, but I still wanted to talk about this first volume and maybe even encourage a few people try it out. Really, it's great fun and full of potential as both author and artist have a solid head on their shoulders and some pretty deft hands at work with the series. Plenty to chat about of course, otherwise why would I be here, so I'll just get into it.
The basic gist of it is a bit of an absurdist comedy wherein a master assassin specializing in poisons ends up saving his mark so they can help him get married so his grandmother can be satisfied as the clan line continues onwards.
Tumblr media
Yeah, a very very novel concept, and that sentiment remains for the entirety of the first volume. But let's rewind a little, take a better look at the bigger picture here. Marriage Toxin is an author-artist duo, so I have some higher than average expectations for its execution. Thankfully, both ends are promising, and they give me some great ways of highlighting those proficiencies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gero here, our poison master and head of the similarly titled Poison Master clan, has a phenomenal character design.
Messy hair, rectangular glasses, long and loose clothing, ankle length pants. Sharp and dark fashion that betrays a disinteresting, unassuming, and even awkward and offputting air. Couple that with his overall build and his slouch/hunch and you have a very low level character that's perceived as "simple".
But, that same messy hair, that same loose and long clothing, that very same hunch can be used to weaponize Gero and turn him into a freaky terror of the night.
It's sublime work that appears ever apparent with the simple addition of a gas mask (and a side profile view). Very very smart work in creating a character whose appeal completely shifts depending on where you're looking at them from.
And just to be a little cheeky, I'll say that that sentence pertains to the work in creating his personality as well. Neurotic and high strung but ever aloof, Gero's identity as a character is equally as fluid. Flipping a single switch accomplishes a great deal with him, and vibrating between those two modes of operation is Marriage Toxin's very charm. Which is still a little bit away.
I'll just take a moment to explain the layouts and paneling for the series. It's good. Rather straightforward in terms of paneling which does weigh it down, but the layouts are really great and express a comfortable amount of range.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Though, I will say that the lack of creative paneling is a shame, purely because of some of the ideas that were cooked up for this first volume. Hopefully we'll see that degree of expression evolve as we go on.
Tumblr media
You know, while I'm on the point of hoping for better, it's just a bit of a complaint but I'd really love to see the side characters more expressive. Considering the impressive degree exhibited by Kinosaki and Gero, the gulf between them and the rest of the characters can feel a little odd at times.
All in all, I wouldn't say anything falls short of expectations with art for this story. It's all very solid, backgrounds and environment art are comfortably common, and Kinosaki and Gero command the reader's attention during the volume. It does more than what it needs to in order to engage a reader, and it deserves praise for that.
Of course, engaging the reader isn't a one sided visual affair, the writing needs to be up to snuff, and it definitely is. It's hard to explain without spoilers, but I'll do my best.
I think the easiest way to describe it is practical, and not in a bad way. It lines up countless one two punches of foreshadowing/leadup and delivers swiftly with its relation or reveal. Here's just one example.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some might argue a little heavy handed, but considering the goal of this series, I don't have any issues with a more straightforward approach to a well written narrative.
And it's not like it's a one off either, the author has very clear intentions and ideas they want to realize with this series, and if you're paying attention you'll understand very quickly.
That aside, let me talk in broad strokes here with narrative work.
Marriage Toxin as an action comedy is really enjoyable. The action is very prevalent and reads easily as it aims for impact over experience with its feeling, and the humor is perfectly exaggerated and telegraphed, effortlessly filling page after page.
I am worried about it turn too action heavy and forgetting its roots (just because the action is that good), but I'm not super worried.
Keeping the ball rolling with action though, an assassin power system? Very unique, and they've chosen all the right ideas for expressing it as a fluid and free scale where they're not likely to encounter too many issues. And I mean that in terms of power balances, but also in regards to how many bad guys they can cook up for this series.
And lastly, LGBTQ+ representation, and not in a "look at me!" way. It feels as natural to the characters as it does for them to breath. It's really great stuff to see in a prominent and popular Shounen Jump title. Hoping they'll give us more details and interactions in that vein, but I think even with what we have in this first volume I'm very happy to see the representation.
At the end of it all, there's a lot of praises to be sung for this first time pair of mangaka. Marriage Toxin is impressive, in every sense of the word. It's not knock your socks off incredible, or once in a generation outstanding, but it's certainly a cut above a lot of other new series in similar veins.
So would I say it's for everyone? Definitely not, no. Humor is touch and go, so it's best to give it a shot before you commit if you're not into the more loud and fast style. Thankfully, Manga Plus has all chapters of the manga available digitally for you to check out, so I really recommend that people at the minimum give it a shot!
