Literally screaming
I got the Discord pair a little over a week ago. Sent them to a Plague nest. They wegged me.
And the ONE HATCHLING HAS THE COLOURS I WANTED
The chance to hatch a Ginger/Splash/Grapefruit Imperial out of that nest was 1 in 196. This is BATSHIT. I am flabbergasted. This is entirely Discord's brand. I am not complaining.

Sorry I just see your Polizeiruf stuff and think of you from time to time, like do you speak any German? How did you get into it?? How are you holding up? Can you read the German fics in Google translate or something at least 😟
Ah, thanks for thinking of me ^^ This is definitely a long story so buckle up.
For context, I speak very little German (beginner level/A1). I've always been keen on learning it but I've never had the time to get farther than A1. Anyways, I saw some German mutuals recently lose their mind over the recent Tatort Saarbrücken episode, so my interest was peaked in German crime shows. Then a Slack conversation popped up about Tatort and Polizeiruf 110, where some funny comparisons were made (Is the Doctor Who of Germany a local old people crime show? apparently yes). The convo mainly focused on Tatort when @papercutdoctor brought up the new Polizeiruf pair: Kommissars Sleep Deprived and Gender Frodo.
After this convo I made two goals:
Get the English subs for Tatort Saarbrücken
Write a crack fic about Gender Frodo throwing the ring into Mount Doom
@papercutdoctor mentioned that she was working on subs from that latest episode, so I thought it would be a good idea to ask for them. Maybe I would get around to watching them after Tatort Saarbrücken. I didn't need them for the crack fic, but it would be nice. I didn't expect them to be done quickly, but ofc, she finished the English subs for Hildes Erbe two days after that convo. I, being my usual procrastinator self, still hadn't even asked for the Tatort subs. It actually took me twelve days to get around to watching it, but hoo boy once I did, there was no going back.
Tumblr media
I wrote my fist P110 fic within three days of watching because they did in fact, drive me that insane. I am very unwell (in a good way) because they are definitely one of my favourite dynamic types. However, I will admit I am suffering a little. I've been able to discuss with both papercutdoctor and another friend so I'm not entirely alone, but I am jealous of the Discord that I've heard about. I've been reading fics through Google Translate but I'm very much aware of the failings of GT due to learning other languages in school. Absolutely fascinated by "hätte, hätte, Fahrradkette" but reading it in a GTranslated fic just gets you "would have, would have, bicycle chain" lmao. Either way A1 level German is not that conducive to conducting conversations, reading fic or understanding prior episodes about your blorbos. I've kind of settled for making my own content (the reductress post, second fic) and I've received lovely comments on both, so I'm pretty happy about that :'D
I'd love to discuss with everyone, even if we have to meet in the middle a little heh. I'm always open to messages here on Tumblr (or if you want to use Tumblr to ask for my Discord I'm okay with that too lol). And yes, I still haven't watched Tatort but tbh my brain is so filled to the brim with Adam and Vincent that I don't think there's space for Tatort XD (also there's still no subs for the third ep). I've picked up Nicos Weg and Duolingo again, but with work and other things we'll see how much better I can get at German in time for the next ep ^^

Did you watched any Toho shows that got DVD/Livestreams recently? I miss seeing your opinions about them *heart eyes*
I've missed talking about them! Unfortunately my current program is...well, two things went very quickly when I went from being a starving MA student to a starving PhD student: my musicals and my video games. I've barely been able to really do anything, which is a shame because musicals really....ARE a part of me, they're kind of a way of keeping myself sane.
I've been able to secure some rare 1789 DVDs (neither Toho, Zuka, or French), which fulfilled a long-standing want for me, but now I'm being very careful with my money because I had to make several high budget purchases in short succession and that always makes me nervous, and I've been told that in a couple of years, my department's going to. Cut my funding significantly. Also, unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, I've also not been as actively involved with other Toho fans, which means that I'm not hearing as much as I used to. And then there was the dreadful news about Sayaka in December which...it wasn't the only factor, obviously, and I refuse to blame her any more than she's already been blamed, but it did kind of make a few of my favorites difficult to watch for a while, and to some extent I still feel like there's a certain level of mourning going on. We lost one of the best performers of this generation of Toho stars -- we'll move on, because we have to, because that's the way theatre is, but....we have to figure out how. *I* have to figure out how. In over twelve years as a fan of musicals, I don't think I've really....seen anyone who I was a fan of die -- Some of my faves have retired over the years, some of them are less active, but I've never had anyone die on me, especially so young and so suddenly.
Still! It's not all doom and gloom, and I've kind of.....established a sort of mental list of the musicals that are highest on my list of things to buy.
Frankenstein - I never thought I'd see the day when this musical would make it to the top of my personal list, but here we are. I was just really, really impressed with what I've seen, my critiques aside, and I'd really, really like to have it as part of my collection
2. Mata Hari - I'm...too much of a Wildhorn stan to NOT want it, and....tbh......the price is REALLY good, with two DVDs for the cost of one. You COULD say that that's a sign that they had no faith in it, but also.......consider.........*Even and especially if it's trash, I would love it. I do not go to Wildhorn shows for their nuanced characterization and deep exploration of social issues.* And I would mainly be getting it for the Chapi/Mario Tashiro cast, since it's two of my favorite performers together.
3. Mozart (2021) BluRay - Mozart is probably the one Kunze and Levay musical that I have the most mixed relationship with, especially since MA's redemption. It has some wonderful numbers that really stand out, some of the best those two have ever penned together, but it also has a lot of numbers that are just....there. Still! Furukawa Yuta's star power is enough to make me want to get this musical, as well as the promise of my favorite number from the German production, "Der Einfache Weg."
4. (Honorary) The Man Who Laughs. Because I STILL can't believe they didn't release it. Like. I was CERTAIN... (I'm STILL thinking of ways that it could still win.)
5. Romeo and Juliet. On one hand: I am not particularly impressed with the singing I've heard, but also....I do love this musical, even if I've not been able to do much with it recently, and I would like to see Oka Kojiro's Escalus. Maybe I'm a massive Oka Kojiro fan, maybe I just really, really need musicals again and I'm increasingly desperate, but like. I'd be willing to give it a go. But there's a reason it's lower than the musical that literally hasn't been released on DVD yet.
And I also do want to round out my Zuka collection. Being left to my own devices means that I can explore a little more of what *I* want, without bending to pressure, and even though I stand by some of the criticisms of Zuka I've made in the past...I do also miss it. There's a lot of things that I've wanted to get ahold of over the years that I want to get my hands on.
Also not Toho but I literally just discovered that Shiki released a Robot in the Garden CD? And it's available on Spotify? Robot in the Garden, the Also not Toho but I literally just discovered that Shiki released a Robot in the Garden CD? And it's available on Spotify? Robot in the Garden, the musical that I've been wanting to get ahold of for ages and that looks super adorable? So I will definitely be making time for that.
A couple of releases I'm really pumped for:
(1) Jane Eyre (PLEASE FUCKING RELASE A PROSHOT, TOHO, PLEASE. Anything that isn't B*rbour's voice singing Rochester.) The cast looks SO GOOD.
(2) Moulin Rouge - Apparently I was in the first 1% of listeners of the OBC cast album a couple years ago, which...I did NOT see coming because I'll loudly complain about my issues with this musical, but like....at the same time....I DO love the music and the arrangements, I love the sparkle, I love the spectacle of it. (Honestly I think it and Great Comet might be the closest American theatre's ever come to making a French musical.) REALLY want to see what Toho does with it.
(3) LRA. PLEASE. I love this musical so much and I'm really curious to see what it's going to look like on the Toho stage. Are they going to take anything from Zuka, or is it going to closer resemble the Korean? Or is it going to be like 1789 where they welded together the other productions? I don't know, but I can't wait to see the result!
(4) ELISABETH. PLEASE.
