SONIC RANGERS, EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT IT, LINK FOR ALL SOURCES AT THE END
Tumblr media
Ok, the time has come. I spent my entire day doing some searches on the 4chan website, picking and trying to find every nugget of information I could find that I was 100% sure it was connected to Sonic Rangers.
I’ll get this right out of the gate: I’m 95% sure the next main Sonic game will be open world, and what will follow is all my evidence towards it. It’ll be uncharted territory for the Sonic franchise, and we’ll need to see how it pays off.
Also, spoilers for Sonic Rangers, but kind of broad ones, so in my opinion, your experience wouldn’t be ruined if you read all of this. But if you’re one of those that want to go 100% blind, then I think the time to jump off this ship is now.
Here we go.
As it turns out, as I did some digging of my own, and thanks to other observant people, I can confirm that the “Sonic Rangers” name has been circulating on the Internet way, WAY before the accidental leak revealed on May 27th. I will show an entire timeline of these discoveries, and how they connect.
But okay, before we dive in, a general vision of Sonic Rangers: the game will take a brand new approach with the character, placing Sonic in an open world for him to explore. Where through his speed, he’ll do platforming challenges, do puzzles, fight against badniks, etc. When fighting against enemies, the player gains XP, that can be used to give Sonic different abilities. Spread through this world are bosses, where after you defeat them, Sonic obtains orbs, and when enough of them are gathered, Sonic can enter Special Stages, that are structured like a Sonic Generations/Sonic Unleashed boost level. When you complete them, you get a Chaos Emerald.
Tumblr media
Ok, now let’s go to the 4chan leaks. From what I can tell, SEGA has been inviting different test groups to testplay their next main Sonic game, under a strict NDA. After it, SEGA collects feedback from the testers. I can’t exactly pinpoint when SEGA began to do these tests, but if I had to guess, it has been around as early as March 2020.
1st Occurrence
In July 2020, another fake leak claiming to be the 30th anniversary game showed up on 4chan, but then, as an answer to it, a person that has really played a test version of the next main Sonic game called the fake leaker out. The person that has put their hands on the next main Sonic game had the following to say:
“I playtested the game back in march and played it for an hour. There were no levels just an overworld. You’re full of s***.”
In another post, the person that got their hands on the testing version of the next main Sonic game, had the following to say:
“It was called Sonic Rangers when I played it.”
1st Occurrence analysis
I believe that the person that played the test version of Sonic Rangers has erroneously interpreted the open world as an overworld, which makes sense. Sonic Rangers name gets dropped for the first time.
2nd Occurrence
In August of 2020, another person that played a test version of Sonic Rangers, stated the following about the next title on the Sonic series:
“It’s not an adventure remake. I playtested it. They ARE working on something, but if they take feedback me and the other panelists gave them, SEGA might change quite a bit from what I ended up playing.
Open World
Set on a gloomy, grassy, uninhabited island dotted with ruins.
Big BOTW influence, little korok-like puzzles scattered everywhere.
Robot/alien bosses scattered throughout the island, defeat them and you get a Chaos Emerald.
Get all Chaos Emeralds and you gain entrance to the final boss area, a foggy forest you couldn’t enter before.
No major characters appeared aside from Sonic.
No story, just dumped in.
Turn Super Sonic to fight the boss, he’s a giant colossus-like entity that you climb, hit his weak points.
These could all be changed because I played a couple of months ago and there still hasn’t been any reveal, so I assume they might be reworking a lot.”
2nd Occurrence analysis
As you can see, in this version, some of the elements that were talked about in the most famous leak aren’t present, some missing elements were added later, but the basic was already present and in place. Sonic can travel through an open world, doing puzzles, defeating badniks and fighting against bosses, to then fight against a final boss as Super Sonic.
The most interesting thing is how the person that leaked these details claimed that they played it “a couple of months ago”, meaning that this version could take place after the build shown in the first occurrence. Some things have changed since then.
Another cool thing that I wanted to point out was that this build uses placeholder from previous Sonic games. During the final boss, the theme for the first boss fight against Infinite from Sonic Forces is used.
3rd Occurrence
In January of 2021, another anonymous 4chan user talked about Sonic rangers, once again mentioning the name “Sonic Rangers.” As their version is pretty edgy, and negative because Sonic Negativism gets clicks, I’m going to present it in a unbiased manner, and be direct to the point on what they said.
Sonic Rangers, around the end of 2020, was presented once more to a select group of people, two demos were shown. The first one allows exploration of the open world under a time limit of twenty minutes, and another demo that has an apparent Final Boss battle.
Open world is filled with small enemies, puzzles, and platforming challenges.
Completing puzzles, challenges and defeating badniks gives XP to the player as a reward, that can be used to unlock abilities for Sonic.
Among the abilities that Sonic can unlock, there is the “spincycle”, where after pressing the Y button, Sonic begins to create a line behind him, and if the player creates a circle-ish shape around the enemy or a group of enemies, Sonic attacks all the enemies that were “marked” within the spincycle line.
Homing Attack that can target multiple enemies at once, from Sonic Lost World, is back.
There are lots of bosses spread through the open world, when they are defeated, Sonic gets some “orbs”.
If the player gets enough orbs, he can access the “Cyberspace”, essentially this game’s special stage.
The cyberspace levels are like the boost levels in Sonic Generations.
When beating a cyberspace level within a certain amount of time, the player obtains a Chaos Emerald.
New voice clips for Roger Craig Smith were used.
Some new music was made for this build.
In regards to the demo where the player faces the final boss:
After reuniting all the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic can go through a dense fog that the player couldn’t access before in the open world.
A Giant Tree Robot is the apparent final boss.
Fly as Super Sonic using the spincycle and other abilities that were unlocked throughout the game to help defeat the final boss.
Can’t take damage, on a timer of rings. A Ghost girl refills the player’s ring count multiple times.
Demo ended after defeating the boss.
3rd Occurrence analysis
As you can see, this version polished even further the concepts that were talked about in the second occurrence. Instead of getting Chaos Emeralds after defeating a boss, Sonic gains orbs, where after this Sonic has to go after EVEN more bosses to get more orbs. With these orbs, the player can access a Special Stage, named Cyberspace, where you’ll be able to play a more traditional like Sonic game, to get the Chaos Emeralds.
This certainly helps the game longer, which is a plus for me. We’ll probably have seven boost levels, with them being treated like a Special Stage. They also added a XP system, and the main gimmick of this game, the spincycle, was shown in the trailer for Sonic Central.
Sonic will keep building up abilities, which is something I believe the player will be able to use them as different strategies on how to beat different types of bosses.
4th Occurrence
youtube
Sonic Central takes place, with a trailer for a new Sonic game at the end. Sonic is running through a forest, and then he begins to glow blue, creating a pixel effect, with a line following him. Sonic then runs in a circle with this new ability that makes him glow blue, and then exits screen.
4th Occurrence analysis
With the context we’ve piled up from previous occurrences, you can put some pieces together. Sonic is clearly activating a spincycle, the main gimmick for this new game, just like how it was said in the January 2021 leak. And just like how the leaker said, Sonic formed a circle-ish shape with this ability in the teaser trailer. Sonic creates a blue energy, creating a line behind him, allowing him to make patterns with it, maybe creating a shape that could surround his enemies?
Tumblr media
5th Occurrence
Dataminers and modders are able to get their hands on the 4K trailer for the new Sonic game, finding out that the name of the game is, Sonic Rangers.
5th Occurrence analysis
It perfectly fits with what was stated previously in 4chan threads, specifically, the one from July 2020 and the one from January 2021. Helping give the 4Chan leaks even more credit.
6th Occurrence
SEGA, while sending out press kits to news websites, ends up slipping out the name for their next main Sonic game, Sonic Rangers.
"Announcing new console experiences, Sonic Colors: Ultimate and Sonic Rangers, further details on Netflix's Sonic Prime, mobile news, musical events and much more!"
-SEGA
It was an accident, and SEGA stated they sent an erroneous version, and when pressed about the Sonic Rangers name, it didn’t dwell into it any further.
6th Occurrence analysis
Coming straight from SEGA’s mouth, the name for the next main Sonic game is gonna be Sonic Rangers. This fits a lot with the rumours that came from 4chan from July 2020 and January 2021, making it EVEN MORE likely that the next main Sonic game is gonna be an open world game.
Conclusion
And that’s where we’re at now in terms of Sonic Rangers news. In my opinion, I’m 95% certain that these leaks are legit. Keep in mind that after the Sonic Rangers name came to light, 1001 other rumours were created, but these I have my doubts, since they now have a sturdy base, they can make up more stuff to go along with it.
My opinion: I’m particularly excited for this next main game. Sonic Rangers deals with uncharted territory for the Sonic series, and I feel like it could be very fun. But of course, I’m a guy that’s mostly chill and cool with most Sonic media out there, so form your own opinions.
Anyway...
HYPE FOR SONIC RANGERS!

20 Questions With Darren Criss: How Acting Has Helped Him Make New Music
While Darren Criss has graced our TV screens with a range of characters, from high schooler Blaine Anderson on Glee to serial killer Andrew Cunanan on The Assassination of Gianni Versace, he was last spotted just being himself, on our For You Page on TikTok. “I’m walking to rehearsal with a guitar on my back with a Trader Joe’s bag ... I did not bring an umbrella because I forgot that it was raining. I’m rocking that NYC musician life,” the Glee alum explained in the hilarious clip posted three days ago.
While Criss’ acting work has earned him acclaim and stardom, he leaned into making music during the pandemic. On Aug. 20, he dropped a new EP, Masquerade, featuring five new tracks that Criss says were inspired by the different characters Criss has embraced throughout his career. After Criss wrote songs for his musical comedy web series Royalties and Apple TV+’s animated sitcom Central Park before the pandemic struck the United States, he then used those experiences as a precursor to his new EP. As Criss continues to promote his new music, he answered 20 of Billboard's questions – giving us a peek into how his new EP came together, and how growing up in San Fransisco shaped him as an actor, singer and all-around artist.
1. What inspired your latest project, Masquerade?
Although I would have preferred that it come at a far less grim cost, I finally had the time. Before the pandemic, I had written 10 new songs for my show Royalties -- along with an original song for Disney and another for Apple’s Central Park. These were all assignments in which I was writing for a certain scenario and character. Go figure. It was the most music I had ever written in a calendar year. This really emboldened me to rethink how I made my own music— to start putting a focus on “character creation” in my songs, rather than personal reflection. The latter was not proving to be as productive. The alchemy of having this time and having set a new intention with my own songwriting and producing made me put on a few of my favorite masques and throw myself a Masquerade.
2. How do you think your background as an actor complements your music?
They are one and the same to me. I treat acting roles like musical pieces— dialogue is like scoring a melody; there’s pace, dynamics, cadence, tone. Physical characterization is like producing -- zeroing in on the bass line, deciding on the kick pattern. Vocal characterization is like choosing the right sonic experience, choosing the most effective snare sound, and mixing the high end or low end. It goes without saying that it works in the complete opposite direction. Making each song is taking on a different role literally and employing the use of different masques to maximize the effectiveness of the particular story being told.
3. On Instagram  you wrote that “Masquerade is a small collection of the variety of musical masques that have always inspired me.” Which track do you identify with most in your real life?
Everybody absorbs songs differently. Some key into the lyrics, some into the melody, some the production, some into vocal performance. When I listen to songs, I consider all of their value on totally different scales. So it’s hard to say if there’s any track I “identify” with more than any others, since I -- by nature -- identify with all of them. I think I just identify with certain aspects more than others. If it helps for a more interesting answer, I will say I enjoy the slightly more classical, playful -- dare I say -- more Broadway-leaning wordplay of “Walk of Shame,” but that’s just talking about lyricism. I enjoy the attitude of “F*kn Around,” the batsh--t musicality of “I Can’t Dance,” the relentless grooves of “Let’s” and “For A Night Like This.” All have different ingredients I really enjoy having an excuse to dive into.
4. What’s the first piece of music that you bought for yourself, and what was the medium?
Beatles audio cassettes: “Help” and “Hard Day’s Night.” I just listened on repeat on a tape-playing Walkman until my brother and I got a stereo for our room with a CD player in it, which was  when I just bought the same two albums again, but this time as compact discs.
5. What was the first concert you saw? It’s hard to say, because my parents took us to a lot of classical concerts when we were small. But I guess this question usually refers to what was the first concert you went to on your own volition, and that my friend, was definitely Warped Tour ’01. My brother and I went on our own— two teenagers going to their first music festival, in the golden age of that particular genre and culture. It was f--king incredible.
6. What did your parents do for a living when you were a kid?
My dad was in private banking and advised really, really wealthy people on how to handle their money. My mom was, by choice, a stay-at-home mom, but in reality, she was my dad’s consigliere. They discussed absolutely everything together. They were a real team, and I saw that every single day in the house. They both had a background in finance (That’s how they met in the first place.) and were incredibly skilled at all the hardcore adulting things that I absolutely suck at. They were total finance wizards together. So of course, instead of becoming an accountant, I picked up playing the guitar and ran as far I could with it. Luckily, they were all about it.
7. What was your favorite homecooked meal growing up?
My dad was an incredible chef. For special occasions, I’d request his crab cakes. They were unreal. I’ve never had a crab cake anywhere in the world that was good as my dad’s.
8. Who made you realize you could be an artist full-time?
I don’t know if I’ve actually realized that yet.
9. What’s at the top of your professional bucket list?
The specifics change every day, but the core idea at the top is to continue being consistently inconsistent with my choices, and to keep getting audiences to constantly reconsider their consideration of me. But I mean, sure, what performer doesn’t want to play Coachella? What songwriter doesn’t want to have Adele sing one of their songs? What actor doesn’t want to be in a Wes Anderson film?
10.  How did your hometown/city shape who you are?
San Francisco. I mean, come on. I was really lucky. The older I get, the more grateful I am for just being born and raised there. It’s an incredibly diverse, culturally rich, colorful, inclusive, vibrant city. By the time I was born, it had served as a beacon for millions of creative, out-of-the-box thinkers to gather and thrive. I grew up around that. The combination of that with having parents, who were unbelievably supportive of the arts themselves, laid an incredibly fortunate foundation to consider the life of an artist as a legitimately viable option. It’s a foundation that I am supremely aware is not the case for millions of young artists around the world. I was absurdly lucky.
11.  What’s the last song you listened to?
I mean probably one of mine, but not by choice. I know, lame. But I’m promoting a new EP, what’d you expect? But if you wanna know what I’ve been listening to, as far as new s--t is concerned: a lot of Lizzy McAlpine, Remi Wolf, and Charlie Burg.
12.  If you could see any artist in concert, dead or alive, who would it be?
The Beatles is an obvious "yeah, duh." Sammy Davis, Mel Tormé, or of course, Nat King Cole. I would’ve loved to see Howard Ashman give a lecture on his creative process and his body of work.
13. What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen happen in the crowd of one of your sets?
I feel like just having a crowd at all, at any one of my sets, is pretty wild enough.
14. What’s your karaoke go-to?
The real answer to this I’ll write into a book one day, because I have a lot to say about karaoke etiquette. I have two options here: I can either name a song that I like to sing for me, for fun, or I can name a song that really gets the group going. The answer depends on what kind of karaoke night we’re dealing with here. So I will say, after I’ve selected a ton of songs that services a decent enough party vibe for everyone else, then I would do one for me, and that would be the Beatles’ “Oh! Darling.”
15. What’s one thing your most devoted fans don’t know about you?
What I have up my sleeve.
16. What TV show did you binge-watch over the past year?
Dave is a stroke of genius. There are episodes that I believe are bona fide masterpieces. Also, My Brilliant Friend is a masterclass in cinematic television.
17. What movie, or song, always makes you cry?
It’s A Wonderful Life.
18. What’s one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?
Get used to sharing everything about yourself and your life now, or more astutely, to the idea that you don’t necessarily get to control how your life is shared. I know it’s not really your thing, but you’re gonna have to get used to it, so start building up those calluses now. And don’t worry, all the stuff you love now will be cool again in your mid-thirties, so keep some of those clothes because you’ll be a full-blown fashion icon if you just keep wearing exactly what you’re wearing. Oh nd also, put money into Apple and Facebook.
19.  What new hobby did you take on in the last year?
I’ve always been a linguaphile. My idea of leisure time is getting to study or review other languages. This past year, I took the time to finally dive into learning how to read, write, and speak Japanese. Other than making music, it was one of the biggest components of my 2020-2021.
20. What do you hope to accomplish or experience by the end of 2021?
I hope I get to play live shows again.

a thing about your headcanons that really intrigues me is that, much as Knuckles seems to have originally been done as a contrast or rival to Sonic back in the Genesis days, your take on them has a opposite approach to the responsibility they feel, but done in opposite ways. Sonic runs from responsibility and doesn't want to think about it, while Knuckles feels guilty about NOT being responsible to an extreme, and since people don't often deal with how they're similar, i really like this
Honestly, this is a thread that is not exclusive to Sonic and Knuckles, but actually ties in heavily to a major theme I'm considering and working in Worlds AU.
Basically, "freedom" has always at least nominally been a theme associated with Sonic. It's in his motifs, it's in his attitudes, it's the quality that people tend to envy when they compare themselves to him- whether that's Knuckles who feels bound by fate and obligation, Tails who feels like he might not be enough or can only keep up, Amy who dreads the drudgery of her ordinary life by comparison. Hell, one could say it's even in the many one-off characters who are introduced with Sonic blowing into their life, changing things, inspiring them to grow, and then leaving- Elise, Merlina, Chris Thorndyke, Chip, Shahra.
But it's a theme that's kind of been weakened in the direction that the games took.
In Sonic SatAM, the concept of freedom vs. tyranny was rife in the setting. Robotnik had his boot down on 90% of the world and the remaining pockets are either actively dwindling, or struggling along as best they can through limited resources. All characters are- at any time- in danger of losing specifically their freedom; not their minds, but control of their bodies. And it's a compelling hook.
But the gameverse has very long not been that, and since Sonic Adventure, the world of the games has been very metropolitan. There's a bunch of cities and countries and everybody's going about their daily lives and Eggman's still a wannabe conqueror but he's now become abstracted, a supervillain, who might have this big scheme or that, but- basically until Sonic Forces- we have never had Eggman really decisively in control. And in his absence, there are not really ever any consistent or clear threats to freedom except that, yeah, we guess if we let someone like Solaris or Perfect Chaos or Black Doom run wild long enough that would kill people and then nobody would be free, but... that's an abstract and inelegant way to speak to one of your main center themes.
(and I personally don't like Forces basically trying to reinstate- even if temporarily- the SatAM status quo, even if I think some people like the IDW comics have done interesting things with that, but that's my personal relationship with the character of gameverse Eggman and how I view him distinctly from SatAM Robotnik, as absolutely iconic as the latter is)
I don't think you need an encroaching dystopia per se to make a meaningful discussion out of freedom- I think using the modern gameverse's more colorful, populated world opens up a lot of possibilities for that. So, a major thematic thing I've landed on is that abject tyranny- while the easiest 'threat to freedom' to scan and oppose- and an important one!- is not remotely the only thing that challenges freedom.
A big thing is responsibility.
Responsibility is the thing that most of us sacrifice our freedom to on a daily basis. That may sound dramatic, but it's true; we may have other reasons for it, but we don't just run off somewhere else or go have an adventure or leave our job because we feel responsible to things. And responsibility isn't a bad thing- it's good to feel reliable or trustworthy. If you enjoy your job or your coworkers, you want to do well at it. Having a house is a responsibility, we take care of them. Having a relationship of any kind is a responsibility; so is having kids. If none of us were ever responsible, society would fall apart and we'd all live lonely lives. Moreover, we'd have very little power- ironically a lack of responsibility can lead to a lack of freedom in some regards.
But also, it's very easy to give too much of yourself away and not have any left. I mentioned before that many characters are consistently depicted, across many continuities, idealizing Sonic- because Sonic's free! Sonic doesn't buy groceries or pay taxes or do boring stuff, he certainly isn't stuck in a frustrating or isolating situation, and this can even tie into one of Sonic's major themes- he refuses to be talked into accepting lesser evils.
In Sonic and the Black Knight, Merlina tries to explain to him why she's using Excalibur's scabbard- why she's doing bad things, trying to justify it that she can't just let the kingdom end, even if that means needing to twist it into a horrible place to live- to which she at one point, in frustration, asks if Sonic understands, to which he responds, "No, and I don't want to."
While it's not exactly a perfect moral stance (those don't exist), there is something to be said powerfully for the idea that Sonic as a person has a certain rejection of responsibility as a chain to let bad things happen. He rejects loyalty to a thing that drives you into cruelty.
And this is really interesting, when we consider- specifically in the very first game that featured Shadow and featured him explicitly as a dark antithesis to Sonic- that is exactly what happens to Shadow.
Shadow is not, by default, an amoral person. Pre-trauma, we see that he doesn't want to hurt others, and frankly, as much as "ow the edge" circles (and is somewhat warranted), we can often see that he's standoffish but fairly civil; someone who is dealing with a lot of stresses and problems, but doesn't often relish hurting others unless he's already desperate, frustrated, or looking for an outlet or solution. And in adventure 2, Shadow is led into nearly ending the planet on account of loyalty; to the idea of Maria, to what he believes she asked him to do (and what he believes is owed to the people who killed her)
It's kind of conspicuous that if you think about it, most of Shadow's arcs in various games that focused on him are about questions of what's owed- to him, or to the world. Does he owe a debt to Eggman? Rouge? Black Doom? Gerald? Maria? Does the world owe him a debt of anger and pain to be paid back in vengeance, or, is he the one who owes the world a chance? Does he owe himself a chance? These are questions of Responsibility.
So to bring this back to Sonic and Knuckles, I think that's an interesting context to set them apart, because both of those two definitely have a special relationship with the Chaos Emeralds. Knuckles is the guardian of the shrine that doesn't just have positions for the Master Emerald, but all seven smaller ones as well; and Sonic... well, Sonic consistently and regularly does stuff with the chaos emeralds nobody else does. He transfers super forms to other people, or even awakens them in people who haven't done it before (as implied with Burning Blaze in Sonic Rush). And at least according to Sonic 3&K, his arrival (?) was foretold.
But Sonic... does not feel responsible about the chaos emeralds. If something's happening with them he wants to know but it's about curiosity. When the chaos emeralds are corrupted, tarnished, and lose power, Sonic... juggles them, while he's confused about his own (related) corruption. It's weird, it's concerning, but it's not an obligation. He gets distracted buying ice cream in the same scene.
By contrast, the only time Knuckles feels confident shattering the Master Emerald, it's as an obligation- he has to protect it from Eggman even if it creates more work for himself, and he later freaks out and nearly crashes the shuttle he and others are on when a near-miss scatters the master emerald pieces he's collected across the ARK. I can only imagine half of the plot of Sonic Unleashed would've given Knuckles an ulcer if he'd been around for it. You did what to the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic????
Basically, I think while freedom vs. tyranny is definitely Sonic's brand, you can have a lot more fun and shore up the thematic strength by also factoring in "responsibility" as a secondary theme and this strengthens or illuminates many characters and their arcs.

ohhh can we hear more about sweet woman 🥺
Tumblr media
we totally can!! infodump about this gaslighting gatekeeping girlboss is under the cut as always
sweet woman was commissioned by a super classy french dessert restaurant called the orgueilleux pâtisserie [orgueilleux being very poorly google translated french for elitist/snobbish lmao], acting as both a chef and a mascot! the gimmick worked wonders for the restaurant's popularity, with rich people coming in droves to experience the novelty of food prepared with a robot master's help, and she was quickly promoted to social media manager as well as her original duties. despite her cutesy demeanour, she's much smarter than she looks, and is equipped with an in-depth understanding of chemical reactions and inhumanly accurate sense of timing and spatial awareness. she knows hundreds of recipes and most of them cost several hundred dollars to make
her personality is more deliberately engineered than most robot masters, designed to fit her appearance and be marketable. she's unwaveringly cheerful, incredibly extroverted, and just silly enough that it's cute rather than grating. she plays these traits up a lot for the cameras, exaggerating her energy and playing dumb when it'll appeal to the masses, but even when she doesn't have her public image to consider she's a bubbly and energetic goof. she's a stubborn optimist, and if she can't find a bright side to look on she'll take out a flashlight and make one. her optimisim makes for a good workplace morale boost and an even better social media presence, although when combined with her ditziness and being a bit out of touch from almost exclusively interacting with the 1% it often makes her come across as insensitive
since she's in the spotlight a lot, most of sweet's hobbies and interests outside of work are still carefully selected to match her public image and look good on an instagram post. she has a passing interest in shopping and fashion, and enjoys going to parties and gatherings and what have you to meet new people. she also loves to experiment with cooking and come up with new recipes, some of which end up on the orgueilleux menu. she does, however, have a private interest in chemistry! as mentioned earlier she knows a fair bit about it already, since cooking is just chemistry with a restricted set of substances, and in her own time she ended up getting curious and reading into the sort of reactions that arise from chemicals she doesn't work with. she rarely mentions this interest herself, but she gets super excited if someone brings it up or gives her the excuse to talk about it, and it's probably listed as super secret trivia about her on the pâtisserie website
unlike other robot masters, sweet has an acute sense of both smell and taste! [since robots seem to only use e-tanks for fuel, there's not much benefit to smelling or tasting things, so i personally believe that most of them don't have those senses unless it'd directly benefit their job.] being able to actually taste the food she cooks makes it much easier to tell if she's doing it right, especially if she's trying to come up with something new. she's also capable of replenishing her energy by eating - it's less efficient than e-tanks, but she thinks they taste gross so she always opts for actual food. fittingly, she has a massive sweet tooth, but she's accustomed to only the highest-class dining and dislikes cheaper or less 'refined' tastes
her magical girl vibe, brought to you by someone who has watched maybe 4 episodes of anime that weren't sonic x, is entirely an aesthetic and marketing gimmick rather than serving any functional purpose. she'll play it up for promotional videos and photoshoots, twirling her fork-trident thing and striking dramatic poses and calling out thematically appropriate attack names like 'sparkling sugar swirl' and 'cinnamon whirlwind' whenever she does anything, but it's mostly for show. while she genuinely enjoys the shouting and posing and twirling, she massively tones it down when she's not performing, maybe occasionally saying an attack name at a reasonable volume while she works. her fork-trident thing isn't even a real weapon, magical or otherwise. it's just styrofoam with metallic paint on it
sweet's weakness to harpoon shot was decided before i figured out exactly what tide man's weapon would be, going on the idea that getting food wet tends to make it sad and gross. this logic doesn't quite carry over with harpoon shot being, well, a harpoon rather than something specifically water-based, but i imagine shooting a cake with a harpoon would also be a very one-sided battle so this weapon wheel makes sense i promise. i guess you could also make the argument that it's because sweet is only experienced with a fake pronged weapon made of foam and would be completely blindsided by a real one? maybe it's that tide is so staunchly anticapitalist that his weapon inherently vibe checks her? i'm grasping at straws a bit over here but listen, if mega man 5 can insist that water is elementally weak to trains, i can insist that it's elementally strong against the french
i think her stage could be some kind of factory! lots of conveyer belts definitely, maybe some crushing hazards, definitely a few mets. the idea there is that she's seized a major food processing plant and is using that position to wreck the regional supply chain. even when she's evil, she basically keeps the exact same personality she shows to the public with only a noticable capitalism upgrade. she has pretty much no combat abilities on her own, but at her own suggestion she was upgraded to shoot a specially formulated icing that's acidic enough to burn through thin metal, finally putting her interest in chemistry to use. her fork-trident, on the other hand, was not changed in the slightest. still just styrofoam. i think it'd be pretty good if she opened her battle with it but even if it hits mega man it only deals one point of damage and the second it touches something it snaps in half and she never pulls out a new one
designing sweet was pretty fun because she's pretty different from my usual taste in character design! my experience with the magical girl genre is that i read about half of sailor moon when i was 12 and absorbed everything else through pop culture osmosis and tv tropes pages, so it was definitely fun to draw what i think a magical girl might look like. i also don't use oranges and yellows much, so picking out her colours made for an agonising exciting challenge! she didn't change too much from the initial microsoft paint sketch, although she lost a skirt layer along the way because i didn't feel like figuring out how to draw another one, and her weapon was originally just a big fork that probably would have been a ksjfjhkjhfillion times less cumbersome to draw. oh well. live and learn [HANGIN ON THE EDGE OF TOMORROW]
that about wraps it up for sweet woman, i think - thank you so much for asking about her!! here's the transparent art and the version without 15 different filters on it to make it look kinda like an 80s anime screenshot

Note
If Eggman was real and you met him, how would you react?
That's a tricky one because I like to imagine all kinds of different first encounters that we could have! I imagine that I would already be passionate about him and his work before we meet. For a while, I'd be admiring from afar and wishing I knew him personally, just like I do in real life. But the difference is that I would actually have a chance of really getting to meet him someday. :')
In the Sonic universe, people would say it was terrible for me to like him because of all the trouble he'd cause us and the planet. But even when he wreaks havoc that results in worldwide catastrophes, I'd be excited and impressed instead of hating him for it! Like yeah, his plans are dangerously life-threatening but I think it would make living there much more interesting fhsjgjskgjdgh
Before meeting him, I'd be interested in all the public knowledge about him and his work, just like in real life. Even with all the rumors and truths I'd hear, it would only make my fascination stronger. I'd actually wish for him to show up in my area, even just to get a glimpse at him doing his thing in person! I'm sure I'd be the only one trying to get a peek instead of immediately fleeing the scene. XD
I would already be extremely happy just to exist in the same world as a man so glorious and powerful that he should be hailed as a god! So if I came across him in person, the feelings would be even more intense! Even if I just saw him from afar and nothing else, it would feel like a blessing just to be in the same area as him because that's genuinely how dramatic and passionate I am about him djskjgkskfks
But if I ever had a personal encounter and we finally met, I'd be overwhelmed with excitement and joy. I'd feel the intense urge to kiss and hug him after all the longing, especially because I'd be totally lovestruck by his beauty! But I'd be careful with expressing my adoration because I'd want to make sure I wouldn't come off so strong upon first meeting. I wouldn't want to rush or force anything.
Upon the first sight of him in the flesh, I know he'd take my breath away and make me feel the intense excitement that makes my heart race! I'd definitely need a moment to gather myself so I wouldn't be a hyperventilating mess stumbling over my words when trying to speak. I have experience in preparing myself for stuff like that in real life, so I think I could handle it despite the intensity of the feelings!
Because of my immense passion for those I adore, I sometimes fear coming off as creepy due to my deep obsession, which would give the worst first impression. But I think I'm good at being sensible and appearing slightly calmer, so that's what I'd do. But I certainly couldn't hold back from gushing a bit because I'd want him to know that he's highly respected and appreciated!
I'd bow and introduce myself as a long time admirer of him and his work. It'd still be a biiit obvious that I'm lovestruck when I say how much I admire his greatness, intelligence, all of his work with his amazing creations and impressive accomplishments, and how he inspires me to follow my dreams! I think he could tell that I have a huge crush on him anyway because my passion would give it away lol
He'd notice that I'm trying my best to make a good first impression and that I have great respect for him, which is why I'm sensible with my approach. He'd react very casually towards the gushing because I'd be praising him for things that he acknowledges, loves about himself, and takes great pride in already! But he'd be happy that someone recognizes and understands his true greatness!
If I approach him the right way, he'll enjoy the praise and positive attention. He seeks any kind of attention from others, whether they react positively or negatively. But it would be his perfect opportunity to boast to someone that agrees with every word! I'd love it when he says he knows how great he is and his "I love me too!" attitude. I truly adore his confidence and deep love for himself! 💜
If we get to know each other better, which I really hope we would, he'd gradually encourage me to be more open about how I feel. That's when I'd start to allow myself to express the true depths of my love at last. I'd know that he'd be comfortable with it then, so I'd have the confidence. But he really could've guessed that I'm head over heels by the way I'd act around him all the time. XD
I'd make him feel very special and loved with all that I have to say and I'd remind him of it everyday! And I'd love to finally tell him how handsome and sexy he is and give him lots of hugs and kisses if he'll let me fhsksjgkskg He always likes a good ego booster, so that's the potential he'd see in me when deciding to keep me around. It would be my greatest dream come true! :D 💜💕💖

Flower Power
Karmagisa Flower Shop AU
“How do I passive-aggressively say f*** you in flower?”
Nagisa blinked. It was just an ordinary day at the flower shop he worked at; he opened the double doors and greeted his co-workers, tied his baby blue apron around his waist and started his shift. The morning was quite slow as they only had three customers: a frantic man desperately looking for an anniversary gift for his wife, a teenaged schoolgirl who wanted to cheer up her hospitalised best friend, and a young lady who was headed to her goddaughter’s birth. He was standing behind the counter, arranging the bouquet of lavender-coloured roses and alstroemeria when he walked in. Like a man on a warpath, this tall red headed stranger in a black blazer strode in like he owned the place, the sound of loud confident footsteps reverberated through the empty store as he made his way to the counter and slammed down two a thousand yen notes onto its surface, almost causing Nagisa to drop the posies of purple stock and purple statice in his hand in surprise.
“Um, excuse me?” oh right, he had a job to do.
“Oh sorry, sir,” Nagisa said, still completely perplexed by the events that had unfolded during the last minute. Why, out of all times, did Maehara decide to go to see ‘the cute barista with the most dazzling brown eyes that suck you in and most adorable antennae and beautiful smile that leaves me weak at the knees’ that worked at the coffee shop opposite them and Fuwa chose to work on her commissioned bouquet in the storage room in the back? “I just - um, excuse me - but do you think you could repeat what you just said, please?”
Mr Tall Stranger scoffed, “It’s one of my classmates’ birthday tomorrow and I positively hate the guy. He thinks that just because he got higher than me in midterms last week that he’s sooo much better than me - as if one point is such a difference. Well, the whole school positively adores him and since it’s our last year of High School, I thought it would be a kind gesture for me to put aside our differences and just give him a parting gift for the last birthday he’ll ever be able to spend with me.”
“By … giving him a floral arrangement that would be the equivalent of flipping him off?” Nagisa raised an eyebrow.
“Exactly,” the other replied brightly, “so can you do it? I swear I can pay extra if I need to. Trust me the look on Asano’s face would be worth every yen.”
“Well, I can see what I can do, sir.”
“Karma,” the young man said, “please don’t use any of that ‘sir’ business.”
“Sure, Karma.”
“Thank you, Nagisa.” If it weren’t for the fact that he was wearing a name tag, Nagisa would’ve jumped five feet in the air at the fact that Mr-Karma used his name. It certainly didn’t help that he was somewhat attractive with his sharp golden eyes, stylishly ruffled crimson locks, cocky smile and an aura that screamed confidence. Pushing down the feeling of interest that curled in his stomach and seemed to be targeted towards the other male, Nagisa put down the flowers in his hands and stated, “well, you could use geraniums, which symbolise stupidity, foxgloves, which symbolise insincerity, meadowsweet for uselessness, orange lilies for hatred and finally some yellow carnations.”
“Really,” Karma was grinning widely, placing his elbow on the countertop and resting his chin on the back of his hand, “and what do they mean.”
Nagisa smiled, “disappointment and disdain.”
Karma threw his head back and laughed (and no, the sound did not make Nagisa blush all right, no matter what those pesky store cameras said. Everyone knew that they weren’t working anyway), “that’s brilliant. You sure know your stuff, don’t you? I’m going to need to remember that for the next time I do a group project with Terasaka.”
“Consider it a gift,” Nagisa said, “I like reading and the language of flowers interested me.”
“Is that why you work here then.”
“Not really,” he didn’t know why he was explaining this all to a person he just met, but something about the dashing redhead made him feel … safe, in a way. He didn’t know why but the golden-eyed gaze captured him and drew him in and he wanted more, “I’m trying to save up for University and my own place once I graduate high school and this store pays really well for part-time work. You don’t have to know a lot about flowers to work here but I thought it would be a fun hobby to try to learn and I was curious so I taught myself all about it.”
“You must be really smart, to learn all of that,” Karma smiled, causing him to blush.
“Not really,” he replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck, “trust me I’m not. I’m kind of not doing well in school right now. At this rate, getting a 70 percent in maths would be nothing more than a miracle.”
Karma just hummed before saying, “I see. Well, any chance we could get started on my ‘F*** You, Asano’ birthday gift?”
“Which I assume is coming straight from the heart?”
“But of course,” Karma said solemnly, placing a hand over his heart and winking. Nagisa rolled his eyes, but the smile on his face betrayed his amusement, as he walked around the counter and began searching for the flowers required.
“So, what do you study in school?” Karma asked when Nagisa was gently pulling out a handful of coral coloured foxgloves.
“Hmm? Oh, just the usual, you know: Maths, Science, English. Oh, and also Psychology. You?”
“The same as you but Economics instead of Psychology, which, I’ve got to say is really interesting. Can you, like, read minds?”
“Unfortunately, no, I have not yet unlocked that skill,” Nagisa replied gravely with a shake of his head, “it appears that my dreams of becoming like Psyren and taking over the world by using mental waves are currently on hold.”
“‘Psyren’? Like the villain in the Sonic Ninja: A Soldier Returns comic?” Karma sounded impressed.
“You read Sonic Ninja?”
“Yeah, I got to admit I’m not too big on the movies though. The director they had for the last one was kind of terrible.”
“I thought it was alright,” Nagisa quipped back as he gathered all of the necessary plants and made his way back to the counter, “sure the special effects weren’t that great but the plot was good.”
“Eh,” Karma waved his hand down, “I still think that the villain only won because the plot called for it and not because he was necessarily skilled.”
“Are you kidding me?” Nagisa’s head was down as he wrapped the flowers but he was sure that the incredulity in his voice conveyed every emotion on his face, “he’s one of the most powerful characters in the franchise! He survived a literal nuclear bomb! He was able to create a forcefield so powerful it wiped out an entire village!”
“Yeah, but to say that he’s stronger than an entire army is just pushing it.”
“I suppose so. By the way, that would be two thousand yen, which you already gave me earlier. Would you like a card to sign?”
“Sure,” Karma shrugged, “I’ve got to show how much I mean this thoughtful gesture, you know.”
Nagisa laughed and handed him a card and pen so that Karma could write whatever it was he wanted to write.
“By the way,” Karma asked as he picked up the bouquet, “what would you suggest I get if I wanted to ask someone out?”
“Oh, umm, well. Roses are usually the go to, even if they might be a bit clichè. The best option would be to go for the person’s favourite flower but you have purple lilacs, which mean first love, pink camellias, which mean longing, and chrysanthemums, which mean long lasting love. Personally, I’d go for sunflowers, which mean loyalty and pure adoration, or forget-me-nots, which mean I’ll never forget you, but I think that that one’s pretty obvious.”
Karma hummed and nodded to himself before cheerily saying “goodbye” and leaving the store, ringing the bell as he went. Nagisa sighed and smiled.
“So what was that about?” Fuwa asked smugly from her place near the doorway of the storage room. Nagisa gasped and turned around in shock, not expecting her to be there.
“How long were you standing there?” Nagisa’s tone was accusing.
“Long enough to know that someone’s got a fan.”
“You’ve got it all wrong, he’s just a customer.”
“Mmhmm, keep telling yourself that ‘Gisa. I saw the way he was looking at you. It was pure shoujo manga with the flowers and the banter and the teasing.”
Nagisa rolled his eyes as Fuwa started to go on in another one of her tangents. He loved her, he really did, but he often wondered if she actually lived in the real world.
“What’s got her started?” Maehara asked later when he returned from his break.
“She thinks a customer is into me,” Nagisa replied, “which is stupid because I’m not really the type of guy a person asks out.”
“Ohohoho, that’s what you think, young one,” Fuwa wagged her finger, “the romantic tension between you two was so palpable I could almost taste it. And don’t deny it, you think he’s hot.”
Nagisa blushed, “I, well, I - I have eyes okay! It’s not like he’d be interested in me though. He might not even like guys that much.”
Maehara gave him a knowing look, “that’s what I thought about Isogai but guess who just got a date for next weekend?”
“Really?” Fuwa beamed and clapped her hands giddily, “Oh, you must tell me all about it.”
Nagisa just looked at his friends and sighed.
————
The next day, when Nagisa turned up at his shift in the afternoon, there was a bouquet of sunflowers and forget-me-nots lying on the countertop. With his heart beating like a drum, he fiddled with the card that was attached to the ribbon that held them in place.
Hey Nagisa,
Heard that the new Sonic Ninja movie is coming out in a week, wanna go watch it together?
Here’s my number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Karma
P.S: if you ever need help with maths, I’d be glad to lend some assistance ;)
P.P.S: the flowers were great!

AUTOMATED VOICE
Please state your message.
[THEME MUSIC PLAYS.]
[THE DIALOGUE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE EPISODE IS SLIGHTLY MUFFLED, AS IF THEY ARE SPEAKING OVER THE PHONE.]
ROSE
Hi! This is Rosemary Quinn. Unfortunately, I’m not able to return your call right now, but leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Have a lovely day!
[PHONE BEEP.]
IRENE
Hey, it’s Irene. I just wanted to check and see when you’d be coming over? Text me and let me know if you have an estimate.
Oh, and my dad is going to the store, so I know you mentioned wanting to make brownies? Did you mean, like, from scratch or is just a box mix fine? ‘Cause I’m good with whatever. Just text me what you need, and I’ll ask him to pick it up. See you later! Bye!
[PHONE BEEP.]
IRENE
Hey. It’s Irene. Leave a message and I’ll get back to you. Thanks.
[PHONE BEEP.]
ROSE
Hi, Irene! I’m sorry to call, but you said you were having some issues with your texts, so I thought this would be a safer bet. Are you available after school today? If you don’t mind, I could really use some help with the chemistry homework. You seemed to at least kind of understand it, or maybe you were just pretending like the rest of us were. [SHE GIGGLES.]
I also just am not super fond of Mr. Morrison. Nobody is. I mean, I try to be nice to him, nicer than most other students, and I think he likes me for that. It doesn’t mean he’s actually willing to be helpful, though. I think he sees me as some sort of air-headed bimbo, which is both misogynistic and presumptuous. Olivia told me he might be retiring, though, so fingers crossed?
Anyways, would we be able to meet up and work on it together? I’ll buy you a coffee for your time. Just let me know! Oh, and no need to call me back, we’ll see each other at school most likely. I just thought I’d call and ask before I forgot. I’ll talk to you later, bye!
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
IRENE
Hey, are you still at the school? I try to have school spirit—sometimes—but events really aren’t my thing. Maddy seemed to be into it, though, so I figured you might still be hanging out with her.
Anyways, if you decide you’re done with it, I was thinking about going to Sonic and it’d be great if you tagged along? It’s not the same when I go by myself. I’ll pay, obviously, since I’m the one inviting you. Call me back if you’re interested, and we can work something out. Alright, bye.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[THERE IS THE SOUND OF DISTANT CONVERSATION AS ROSE TALKS]
ROSE
Hi there, Maddy just wanted me to tell you that when you get here, make sure you go through the back door so you don’t disturb her grandparents. They’re not in a great mood tonight. You’ll have to hop the fence, but if you need help, I can go down there. I’m excited to see you! Bye!
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[THERE IS A SLIGHT BREEZE HEARD IN THE BACKGROUND.]
IRENE
Hey there, I just wanted to apologize for leaving in such a rush. It was just a lot, and I didn’t really, well. I honestly didn’t feel super welcome there? That’s not your fault, though. It was everyone else.
It just—I don’t want to sound rude, but it doesn’t feel like our “group” actually cares about me a lot? I mean, maybe it’s because of my interests, or because I don’t dress or act like stereotypical straight girls do. I’ve known them all since freshman year, but honestly? You’re the only one I’ve ever really clicked with.
They like you, though. Everyone does. I don’t mean that in a snarky or jealous way. Just in the way that…well, you’re Rosemary Quinn. Everyone wants to be your friend, I guess. You just have that aura.
[A BEAT, THEN, EMBARRASSED] God, I’m sorry, that’s such a weird thing to say. I’m really not good at this whole friends thing, huh? I’m surprised you’ve stuck around for this long. I called you to apologize—now for multiple things it appears—but also to tell you that if you’re looking for me, I went to the park. It’s like a five-minute walk from Maddy’s house, and I have my board with me, so that helped.
I’m sure you’re not looking for me. You’re probably having fun at Maddy’s birthday party. You texted me to ask if I was okay, though, so I guess that’s why I called. You always do. You’re the one person who’s consistently cared, who’s always checked in on me when my social anxiety kicks in and I decide to leave early. Is that how you are with everyone, or…?
Jeez, I’m sorry, I’m rambling. Just, sorry for running off, I’m at the park sitting on the swings if you need me. Bye.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
IRENE
[SOMEWHAT DESPERATE] Hey, it’s Irene. Please call me back. I— [SHE HUFFS.] I really think we need to talk.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
IRENE
[DEFEATED] This is my third time trying to call you. At this point, I’m pretty certain you’re actually ignoring me.
I’m not mad, Rose. I promise I’m not. It was—it was nice! I liked it. Really liked it, actually, um. But you ran off to go home before we could really talk about it, and now it really feels like you. Well. Like you didn’t mean to, and now you regret it.
[SHE GROANS.] I’m not saying that to guilt trip you. I mean, maybe I’ve got it completely wrong. Maybe you’re scared that I didn’t like it, which isn’t true. Which would mean that we’re just walking in circles around each other, worried about what the other thinks. It would be funny if I wasn’t so worried about you.
[A BEAT, THEN] Do you wanna know the truth, Rose? I’ll tell you.
[SOFTER] Do you remember when we were building snowmen back in December, outside of the school? You made one named—god, I don’t remember. Was it Queen of the Valley? Some sort of royalty. You always come up with such extravagant names for things, it’s…
Anyways, you said what would make it perfect is if it had a crown to wear. By some absolutely absurd coincidence, I had a paper crown in my locker. I had learned to make them during study hall when I got bored. The school was still open, so I ran back inside through the empty hallways to go grab it.
When I came back outside, you grinned, your cheeks rosy and your hair still a mess from the wind that had only just died down. You took the crown from me, and you looked me in the eyes, giggling. You said, “I could kiss you right now.” Then you ran to give her majesty the crown.
And I didn’t say it. Of course I didn’t. I was too scared of that feeling I felt. I felt so warm, even with a blizzard on the horizon, and that terrified me. I wanted you to kiss me, though. I wished so badly that you had, it physically ached.
I gazed at you there, as you placed the paper crown upon the Queen’s head, Maddy rolling her eyes, but still smiling. In the moment, though, I hardly processed she was even there. I didn’t even process the groundskeeper glaring at us, or the cars driving past as teachers left for the day. As I stared at you, it was like you were the only thing I had ever known, and all I remember thinking was, “This is what will destroy me. This will be my downfall.”
[A PAUSE, THEN, HOPEFUL] But maybe it doesn’t have to be. Because you did kiss me, in the end. I’m glad you did.
Call me back, please?
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[THERE IS BACKGROUND NOISE HEARD AS ROSE STANDS OUTSIDE OF HER HOUSE.]
ROSE
[SINKING INTO DISAPPOINTMENT] Hi, Irene! Just, um…just making sure we’re still going to the dance together. I’m outside my house waiting. My mom’s starting to get pretty upset with me for not being gone already, and just uh…standing here like an idiot. Won’t let me come back inside, though, because she thinks that if I’m not out here, you’ll—actually, I won’t try to understand her reasoning. I haven’t been able to for the past sixteen years.
But, um…please let me know? I’ll be waiting. Goodbye.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[IRENE IS HEARD DESPERATELY TRYING TO GET HER SHOES ON AND GET OUT THE DOOR.]
IRENE
Rose, I am so, so, so sorry I’m late. I promise, I’m on my way, I’m literally—
[HER DAD CALLS OUT, MUFFLED BY THE DOOR, AND SHE CALLS BACK]
IRENE
Yeah, I’m coming!
[THEN, AS SHE'S HEARD RACING ACROSS THE CARPET] I don’t wear makeup very often and I kept messing up my eyeliner and by the time I looked at the clock—I’m sorry. I have no idea how I’m supposed to make this up to you, but I’ll be there as fast as I can, okay?
[MUTTERING, CURSING HERSELF AS SHE PACKS HER BAG] First dance I get with you and it’s the only one I’m late to. Of course it is.
[SHE'S HEARD WALKING OUT OF HER ROOM, THE DOOR OPENING.]
IRENE
Okay, I’m going outside now. I love you. See you soon.
[PHONE BEEP.]
[THIS TAKES PLACE SECONDS AFTER THE LAST ONE.]
IRENE
[SLOWLY] So. I just told you I love you. I didn't mean to, but if you feel that way, too, then great. If not, then just pretend it was a slip of the tongue and we can spend the rest of the night pretending it never happened! Yeah. Um. Yeah. See you soon.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[THERE IS AMBIANCE OF THE CAFE AND PASSERBYS AS ROSE TALKS.]
ROSE
Hi, I’m outside of the cafe now! I haven’t ordered yet, so we can go in together.
[A BEAT, THEN, SOFTER] I brought something for you. Early this morning, when dawn was just barely teasing the sky, I couldn’t fall back asleep. I have no idea why I woke up in the first place. Maybe my muscles knew something I didn’t. I decided to slip out through my bedroom window, though.
If my mom noticed, she hasn’t told me yet. She knew I was going out today, but I’m sure I’ll still come home to her sitting on the couch intently, giving me that look she always does. I don’t care. She can do whatever she wants.
I got on my bike and I rode out to the park—not the one we usually go to. This one is in the opposite direction. It’s much vaster, less playset and more nature. There were flowers that had just started blooming. I picked some with the gentlest hand I could manage. I wish I had thought to bring scissors, but I hope the flowers will forgive me for my carelessness.
I thought long and hard before picking each one, making sure the colors matched just right, that the sweet scent they produced was in perfect harmony. I tied them with a ribbon I had around my wrist, and sealed it with a kiss, just for you. It took me all morning.
[A BEAT, THEN, SHE GIGGLES] Oh, wait, I think I just saw you pull in. Okay, I’ll talk to you in a second—
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
IRENE
Hey. Just wanted to make sure you got home safe. I love you. Call me back when you hear this, okay?
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
ROSE
[LAUGHING] God, I must have just missed you. Yes, I got home safe. Thank you for checking, dear. Sir Griffin the Third says hello!
[TO SIR GRIFFIN THE THIRD] Hey, look, it’s Irene. Say hello!
[IRENE SHIFTS. SIR GRIFFIN THE THIRD IS HEARD PURRING. HE GIVES A SMALL MEOW.]
ROSE
[GIGGLING] I’ll talk to you later, I love you!
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
IRENE
[HER VOICE CRACKING] Hey, I just saw your texts about your mom. Are you okay? Do you need me to come pick you up? You’re more than welcome to spend the night at my place. My dad said you can stay as long as you need, so don’t worry about that, okay?
I wish I could do more to help. I wish I could make her stop. Have you told your aunts about some of the stuff she’s done? They sound like good people, from what you’ve told me. I know they live far away, but still, they might be able to do something.
Right, um, just let me know if you need me to come get you. I love you. Bye.
[PHONE BEEP.]
[THERE IS RUSTLING AS ROSE LOOKS THROUGH HER BAG.]
ROSE
Hi, I’m sorry to bother you. I just wanted to check, did I lose my bracelet at your house? I can’t find it anywhere. It’s the one you gave me, and I really, really don’t want to lose it. It’s like a good charm for me. Please text me if you find it. If not, it’s okay. It might just be somewhere I haven’t checked yet. Thank you, honey. I love you. Goodbye.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[THERE IS THE SOUND OF HER CAR ENGINE, ALONG WITH SOFT GUITAR PLAYING OVER THE SPEAKER.]
IRENE
Hey, I’m parked outside! It’s okay if you’re not done yet, I can wait. I know you like to take your time getting ready for dances, and it definitely pays off. You’re gonna look beautiful regardless, though, so just come out when you’re ready. Love you!
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
ROSE
[TIRED] Hi. I’m sorry to call you so late. To be frank, I didn’t expect you to pick up at all, but I know you’ll hear this in the morning. I hope you’re sleeping well, by the way. I— [SHE YAWNS.] I can’t sleep. That’s not unusual, but I’ve just been thinking a lot.
Do you remember when you fell in the creek? It was late autumn, and even though I pulled you out just seconds after, your teeth were already clattering. I wanted to cry, you looked so miserable, but you acted like it was hardly a big deal.
That one coffee shop was the closest warm building, so I had to take you there. One of the baristas brought out some towels for you, and even gave you a free hot coffee. I should visit them again one day, if they still work there. Maybe bring them a thank-you gift.
Anyways, I gave you my jacket, which you almost refused because you didn’t want me to be cold, but I honestly didn’t even notice it. Once we were almost certain you weren’t going to catch frostbite, we went back to your car and drove back to your house.
On the way there, while we were at a stoplight, you looked at me and said, “I’m just happy it wasn’t you.”
I laughed and said, “Well, it feels like I was in there with you. I got chills just looking at you.”
You said, “Is that how relationships work? We feel each other’s pain?”
And I said, “What happens when one of us dies, then? Will the other die, too?”
And you said, “I hope so. I can’t imagine life without you.”
“But what if you could just live your life for me?” I said. “If one of us dies early, the other should have to live double the life to make up for it.”
You hummed, and then said something I’ll never forget: “I may continue living, but that doesn’t mean I’ll like it. Life is so wonderful when you’re in the world.”
And I should have told you, then, that whatever wonder I bring is only because of you. Every time you smile, or say something stupid, or brush your hair out of your face, there’s a bit more color in the world. I think our colors bleed together, then. You are a universe in my hands and I love you more than both of our lifetimes could ever contain.
And I didn’t have the words to describe it all until right this moment. I couldn’t afford to forget.
So, I love you. In this life and the next. Goodnight, dear.
[TWO PHONE BEEPS.]
[IRENE'S DAD IS HEARD TALKING ON THE PHONE IN ANOTHER ROOM. ON THE MIC, IRENE IS HEARD QUIETLY CRYING. THERE ARE FOOTSTEPS OUT IN THE HALL. THE DOOR OPENS.]
DETECTIVE
[DISTANT] Ms. Gray, could I please speak to you?
[A PAUSE AS IRENE SOBS.]
IRENE
[QUIET, SHAKILY] Please pick up.
[PHONE BEEP.]

The Woman Who Fell to Earth
Tumblr media
I stopped watching Doctor Who in 2013 after the 50th anniversary special. Up to then I was deeply obsessed by its reams of stories, hidden subspaces and detailed production histories. It wasn’t just entertainment, it was a case study in a massive shared universe, and a direct function of the times and places it had been written.
It’s never been very controversial to anyone I know to dislike Moffat’s run of the show, and as it drew to a close everything that followed seemed pretty well-telegraphed: Chris Chibnall would become the head of the show, it wouldn’t be very good, reactionaries would blame bad writing on a female Doctor while plenty of others would just lost interest, the ratings would drop and the whole show would become less culturally relevant. It was a Cassandra truth.
But that said, I still wanted to try it. I watched a bit of the Twelfth Doctor and had mixed feelings, and when I watched the first episode of the Thirteenth I found myself taking notes on it. So, without a lot of structure, here are my thoughts.
1. New Who treats first episodes as very important, the first moments that we see new Doctors and their statements to the world. Call it a modern tradition - where “Robot” and “Time and the Rani” play the change for comedy before jumping into the week’s adventures, “The Christmas Invasion” and “The Eleventh Hour” are primarily statements of continuity. By Twelve’s first outing the villains themselves become metaphors for change, and now Thirteen delivers a brief speech about deciding to become different while paying respect to the past.
2. Speaking of that speech, I feel like there must have been an earlier draft that connected the plot to these metaphors a lot better. The villain of the story keeps pieces of his past triumphs with him at all times, but these trophies are body parts taken from the dead, and they disgust the Doctor. At least Twelve’s flesh robots were stumbling towards eternity.
The villain as a whole is just what you’d expect from a low-grade Doctor Who monster, I guess. He’s supposed to be on a hunt, which sounds really cool, but this consists entirely of him walking places and murdering random bystanders by touch. He’s not keeping the masquerade up or succeeding in his goals by doing this, and the rest of the story implies that he’s at least shrewd about getting what he wants. The Doctor’s complaints against him center on him being a cheat who can’t do the hunt fair and square and on his desecrating corpses, but she never seems very angry at him over murdering people.
The idea of the Doctor stopping a proper hunt actually sounds interesting to me, especially as someone who sat through all of DWAD’s The Most Dangerous Game. There’s a lot of suspense in dealing with an intelligent, directed killer with a small number of targets, be it in Predator or Day of the Jackal, and a villain that stalks, hides or sets up ambushes could be easier on the budget. Or you could keep the villain the same but add a second member of his species to the setting and have them in competition, conflict on conflict. (That sounds like it’d make a good module for TIMELORD, actually...)
3. The Doctor feels simplified. I don’t mean the new personality of this incarnation, although I think the slight amnesia-until-climax is a bit forced. There’s just stuff that comes off wrong. For instance, things are outlawed in “every civilized galaxy” and the villains traveled from “five thousand galaxies away”. Despite ostensibly going anywhere and anywhen, the show’s always respected some species of distance, in that going far enough away or leaving the universe itself is a pretty big deal (especially since so much of it sticks to Earth). This line could’ve been any distance and nothing else would’ve changed, but it kills the idea of space - how can galaxies be civilized? It feels like the setting is shrinking - the word just sounds big and spacey, and this is the part where the Doctor says that something’s out of place, so big, spacey words go there.
This probably sounds nitpicky, but it feels lazy. Where Davies and Moffat both repeatedly made the Doctor or companions into the Most Important People in History, Chibnall seems to take it as read that the Doctor can just do stuff as the plot demands it. The climax involves her making a jump over a dangerous drop to the gasps of all assembled, but her first appearance is after an even longer fall where she breaks through the ceiling of a train car and isn’t even scratched. She "reformats” a phone into some kind of tracking gadget with six seconds of thumb typing and builds a new sonic screwdriver out of random scrap, which then solves basically every issue in the story. And, naturally, she can pinpoint things from a billion light-years away.
My favorite Moffat story is probably “The Eleventh Hour” because it presents the Doctor with a genuine challenge at his most vulnerable. If he had his regular tools handy then it would’ve been a much more straightforward Doctor Who story, but there’s no time to stop and build a new sonic screwdriver, because people are going to die by the time he’s finished. I wish more modern stories had that.
4. I can’t tell how I should feel about the side characters here. Not the companions, although it feels like Chibnall looked at RTD’s companions and thought “why not bring the entire family along?” There’s just this odd tension in characterization between comedy and drama for them, and without a very detailed soundtrack it’s hard to tell what emotions the script’s trying to go for.
One of the hunter’s victims has spent years trying to find his missing sister after another hunter abducting her. Instead of any resolution coming to that story he just gets murdered without ever knowing what happened to her and then the Doctor commandeers his workshop. (It’s even made clear that these human trophies are all still alive, just “in stasis”, so there’s no reason to think they couldn’t save her and presumably several others.) Meanwhile one of the main characters suffers a short fall and dies, taking up most of the final act with a funeral despite us hardly knowing her.
Other victims are worse. A man throws pieces of his salad at the monster for no discernible reason - he doesn’t even seem drunk, and then he dies as the hunter crushes that salad underfoot. A security officer gives a heartfelt goodbye to his family and tells them what a lucky granddad he is, then walks offscreen to be murdered. Neither of these scenes had to happen, and both together don’t even fill a minute of the runtime, so what was the motivation? The first is at least charmingly odd, but both of them feel like bizarre, extremely cheap set-pieces.
The soon-to-be-trophy himself listens to positive affirmations in a crane, then shouts them as he’s being chased. “I’m important! I matter!” The implication would seem to be that this is goofy behavior, and yet the things he shouts are in some ways the themes of the show. Is this self-critical deconstruction, unabashed humanism poorly delivered, a running gag?
5. The other half of a new Doctor, classic or modern, is this shedding of old things. Not always in terms of showrunners, but sometimes in attitudes or fans. The change from Six to Seven was motivated by a desire to change the tone of the show, for instance. Nowadays this is reflected a lot by the fandom - every Doctor has newcomers who jump back out because they don’t want their hero to be replaced, but the jump to Eleven confronted a lot of younger fans with this for the first time. Then Twelve culled some fans who couldn’t stand the Doctor being old and unkissable, and now Thirteen’s wiped out her own contingent of grognards who think the Doctor being a woman is a radical idea invented in the last three years.
That said, I’m not a fan yet. Some Doctors I don’t like as much for aspects of their characters, particularly Five, but Thirteen just doesn’t feel Doctorly. (To be clear, neither did Twelve.) I grew to enjoy Matt Smith’s performance where I thought I wouldn’t, and I’ve found a lot to like in every Doctor, but for some reason both of them still feel like actors playing the role to me, where Unbound Doctors and Mark Kalita have captured whatever the core is.
6. I feel like I’m getting old. So much of the beauty of Doctor Who just feels transparent now. After Moffat the maximalist decades of worldbuilding can never convincingly pretend to add up to a coherent universe and they can’t escape into the freedom of canon-indeterminacy any more than they already have. Even Big Finish, which I used to adore, feels strangled by a mandate to realize and box-set every possible combination of whatever actors they can summon from the show, no matter how many tedious hours they have to fill with cardboard characters and back-of-the-napkin monsters.
There’s no excitement in the adventure for me, because I know the route and the destination. And I don’t know if that’s Doctor Who being formulaic or disenchantment from seeing the patterns too much, or some personal lack of spark and imagination. I feel like there must be some drive I don’t have, one that would re-energize my own perspective in the face of concrete understanding, that would see it as a good thing that I understand another layer of what I enjoyed so much without sacrificing that enjoyment. But if it’s there, I just don’t see it.
But hey. While there’s life, there’s...

You've ever seen the music video to Wedding Dress by Taeyang? I just thing that would be an amazing story for a Shamyson.
Wedding Dress
(SonAmyShad)
2K160
.
Amy walked down the aisle, the white wedding dress she was wearing softly moved along her steps making look as if she was floating. Everyone looked at her in awe, amazed by her beauty. Some laugh, some smiled, happy for the soon to be married couple.
And Shadow was waiting for her.
.
Shadow was jealous of Silver. At least he could go back to the past and redeem his mistakes. Shadow couldn't do that and it was too late now.
"You know, it's not too late."
"She is getting married next week, it is too late."
Shadow and Silver were currently at their shared apartment. Silver watched from his couch, watching Shadow play the piano was actually amusing to him. He didn't see him as the one to play classical instruments, maybe a guitar or drums but never a piano.
"She is not married yet, you can still tell her how you feel." Silver said. He was the only one who knew of Shadow's love for a certain pink hedgehog. He was the one who introduced them after all.
"What if you go to the past and stop me from falling in love with Amy goddamn Rose." Shadow pressed the piano key's very hard, showing his anger.
"You were going to fall in love with her anyway, I can't alter the past that would just mess up the fu-" Silver shut himself off. One of his flaws was talking too much and this was one of those moments.
"Wait ... you knew this was going to happen?" Shadow tilted his head, giving Silver a cold look. "And you still introduced me to her?"
"Hey, I was just speeding things up! It was going to happen anyways and-"
"I knew I should have moved to another city."
"It was still going to happen, one way or another."
Shadow cursed everything under his breath. Was this destiny? And if so, why hate him so much?
.
"I don't believe in destiny."
"Really? You don't believe that we are meant to do something in this world?"
"No, you can do whatever you want."
Amy let out a small laugh, Shadow's ideology amused her, "I do believe in it."
It was a snowing day and Amy and Shadow walked hand by hand. Nothing romantic, but Shadow insisted because Amy wasn't wearing any globes and didn't want her hands to get cold.
"Sometimes I wonder," Amy said softly, "If everything is predetermined by destiny."
.
Well if destiny existed, fuck it. Shadow kept playing the piano, he had composed this song the night after Amy told him that she was marrying Sonic.
He had it mastered and even wrote lyrics for it. Shadow thought that maybe with this song, he could have some peace of mind.
Confessing his feelings with this sonata. The lyrics he wrote were too personal and of course, if he were to sing them, it will ruin the wedding.
"Shadow ... are you alright?"
Shadow looked over ti his white friend, he was still looking at him from the couch but he shrugs it off.
"Yes." Shadow responded, "Anyways, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you go back to the future soon?"
"I was invited to the wedding, so I decided to come."
"You already know how it turns out, why come?"
Silver looked at his friend. He was doing bad, circle under his eyes, losing way too much weight and pale. He wished he could him the truth but interfering with destiny wasn't any good. After all, all of this was mean to be as well.
"Curiosity."
.
It was the wedding day and everyone seemed to be having to be happy but for a certain black hedgehog. No one took it in the wrong way however, Shadow was known for his 'special' attitude.
It was an outside ceremony in the vast fields of Fairy Forest. There was a small chapel decorated with beautiful blue and pink flowers. The guests' chairs were decorated in the same manner. The carpet that leads to the chapel was replaced by a sheet of flower petals.
Shadow was by the side, right behind his black piano. Sonic was already on the chapel, waiting for his soon to be bride.
"Think positive Shadow. In a parallel universe, you are the one standing there, waiting for Amy."
"Lucky bastard," Shadow said between his teeth.
Sonic smiled at him, one out of pity. Shadow growled he couldn't help but feel angry at him. Sonic knew that he loved Amy but in all honesty, he won fair and clean.
What bothered him the most was that after years of leaving Amy alone, he comes backs and takes her.
Shadow noticed the guest stand up, meaning that the bride was here. He sat down, ready to play his song the moment he sees Amy enter the room.
But that never happened.
Shadow didn't know if it was Amy's un-compared beauty or because of the wedding dress she was wearing.
Maybe Amy was right. Sonic and Amy were always meant to be together. Amy saw it when she was young and now she was happily completing her destiny.
Amy began to walk down the aisle but a few seconds passed and she turned to look at Shadow. It was strange of him that he hasn't played the piano yet.
The moment their eyes connected, Shadow just couldn't help it. His ears lowered and his eyes were filled with love.
.
"Sometimes I wonder," Amy said softly, "If everything is predetermined by destiny."
Shadow stopped walking as he noticed Amy's face change in expression. It was snowing heavily now and noticing this, Shadow pulled out his transparent umbrella and covered both of them.
"It doesn't matter if you are in the wrong or right path ... It doesn't affect me, it shouldn't affect you either," said Shadow.
Amy looked up at Shadow, "What do you mean?"
"It means that I determine my own destiny."
.
Shadow's memory broke off the trance and he immediately sat down to play the piano.
He took a deep breath and began to play. He had composed this song to express his feelings. It wasn't simply music he had written lyrics as well.
He got close to the mic which was meant to be there so the guests could hear the piano but instead, he used it to sing.
Some say it ain't over 'till it's overBut I guess it's really over nowThere's something I gotta say before I let you goListen...
Amy looked at him a bit suprised. She didn't know the song was supposed to have lyrics on it. She stopped in the middle of the aisle and waited for Shadow to finish his singing his song.
When you have a fight with himAnd I sometimes see you crying and suffering because of it/himI feel hopeBut I have a heartache unnoticedThen just a hint of your smile makes me composedFor fear that you might know how I feelAnd that then we might drift apartI bate my breath and bite my lipsPlease leave him for me
"Hey, Shadow! I want to introduce you to someone" Silver said as he approached the black one.
"I really don't have the time-"
"This is Amy Rose. You may know her already but I just wanted to officially introduce you to her."
Of course, he knew her. Amy Rose, world heroine, and leader of the Resistance. He didn't care much about her but he respected her.
"Nice to meet you, Rose."
"Amy, please. Call me Amy."
They shook hands and that was the beginning of Shadow's path to love her.
The guest looked at each other in surprise. They knew what was going on.
Shadow was confessing his feelings to Amy Rose.
Baby, please don't take his hand'Cause you should be my ladyLook back at me; I've been waiting for you for longWhen the music echoesThen you will spend the rest of your life with himThough I've prayed every night this day would never comeThe wedding dress you put on (dress, dress)Girl, the wedding dress you put on (dress, dress) (that's not me)The wedding dress (dress, dress)Oh, the wedding dress you put on, oh, no
Shadow kept playing the piano as he let more memories come to his mind.
"Why are you even here? Shouldn't you be with the blue one?"
Shadow asked Amy. The two of them had come back from a very important mission in which Sonic and Shadow were in bad condition. Broken ribs and deep wounds.
"He will be fine. I care more about you at the moment!" said Amy as she sat on his couch, wrapping a bandage around his arm.
"I am the ultimate life form, I don't need-"
Amy interrupted Shadow, they have known each other for three months already and it seems like he can't understand it yet. "I don't care if you are the ultimate life form or not. You are hurt and I am going to take care of you."
"Why?"
"Because you are my friend."
Shadow looked over at Amy who was holding back her tears already. How much he hated seeing her crying, especially if it was because of him.
But at the moment, this was important.
I hated you because you never knew my feelingsSo, sometimes, I wished you would be unhappySeeing that I've already run-run-run out of tearsThat I habitually speak to you when I'm actually aloneAnd that I've felt so uneasy every nightMaybe I've known this would happenI close my eyes and dream an endless dreamPlease leave him for me
"That girl totally likes you! You should ask her out!"
Amy and Shadow were doing their weekly hang out by walking in the park. A young beautiful hedgehog girl had passed by them and smiled flirtingly at Shadow.
"Not interested," Shadow replied.
"Why? She is beautiful!"
"... I have someone else in mind." Shadow looked at the side, trying to hide his embarrassment.
"Oh! Is she pretty?" Amy asked.
"Very."
"Smart?"
"The smartest hedgehog I know."
"Personality?
"Kind."
"Is it me?"
"Yes"
Shadow turned around, completely red from cheek to cheek. "That's not what I mean!"
Amy laughed, as she gave Shadow small pats on his back.
"Don't worry Shadow," said Amy, wiping away her tears. "I like you too."
Shadow kept singing as he closed his eyes. How much he wished to go back to time and just tell her that he likes her too.
And a lot.
Baby, don't take his hand'Cause you should be my ladyLook back at me; I've been waiting for you for longWhen the music echoesThen you will spend the rest of your life with himThough I've prayed every night this day would never comeThe wedding dress you put on (dress, dress)Girl, the wedding dress you put on (dress, dress) (that's not me)The wedding dress (dress, dress)Oh, the wedding dress you put on, oh, no
Shadow was carrying an arrangement of roses. He was walking by a flower shop and he couldn't stop thinking of them. They had power over him as if to tell him that his mission in life was to give them to Amy.
He was walking to her apartment but as soon as he got there he stopped.
Sonic and Amy were talking very happily outside Amy's apartment.
Shadow didn't know how much he loved Amy until the moment he saw her kiss Sonic.
He was heartbroken and since then, it had stopped working.
The Roses were never delivered and that thought still hunted his mind.
Shadow kept eye contact with Amy. She was already crying but there was no going back now.
Silver smiled at the scene. Everything was playing out just like destiny had determined. Not matter what time he went back to, these two were always meant to meet.
Always meant to be together.
Silver whispered, "You got this grandpa."
Please be happy with him so that I can forget youPlease forget how insignificant I lookedThough it's going to be deathly hard for me for a fairly long while, no oh
Shadow finished playing the piano and as fast as he could, he ran towards Amy. Shadow grabbed her hands and he gave Sonic an apologetic look.
Sonic nodded, knowing well that now it all depended on Amy.
"Amy ..." said Shadow, "I love you."

A/N: Sorry for the long wait! I've been so busy with other stories. Thank you so much for this prompt! Wedding Dress will always be an iconic song! However, I don't know if Shadow is a singer haha. Even while writing this story, I doubted myself a little. Also, sorry for any mistakes in the story, I was in a hurry lol.
But again, thank you for waiting!

Sonic’s memento collection (SonAmy prompt)
Prompt suggested by @itsnicky13! It’s been a while since I last picked up and expanded on something that wasn’t... well... tsundere Sonic, and I think this one is a very nice and cute idea to work with!
Prompt goes: what if Sonic dropped the bracelet Amy made for him to wear back in the Sonic X episode “The Last Resort”, and he struggled to tell her how he kept it after all this time, since she always thought the bracelet was lost.
I personally got a lot more excited by the first part of the idea, but I hope you still enjoy it regardless!
“Wait, is that...?” Amy was ready to throw herself back to the battle, but the sight of it stopped her right on her tracks, as she slowly approached the sand covered thing...
“What, Amy? What?” Sonic wasn’t having the time of his life, struggling to fight against the snake-like Aqua Bots that were playing around with his biggest weakness: the sea. He kept running from the beach to the docks and back, yet the bots were untouched, unloading their high-pressure water cannons on him and starting to close up the distance for a quick grab at the wet hedgehog.
Amy reached for the now clearly visible bracelet, feeling a strong mix of emotions as she recalled her memories of the one she once made exclusively for him...
“Oh my... did you really keep it all this time?”
“Amy, we’re in the middle of a battle if you haven’t noticed!”
One Aqua Bot managed to grab Sonic’s legs at the dock, while another was racing towards his left arm, with the hedgehog struggling to break free.
“I can’t believe it, after so long...” Amy murmured, “I thought it was lost... but how...?”
“Amy! A little help over here? Amy!”
“Oh? Yeah, right, the robots.” She quickly snapped back to reality, running towards Sonic at the dock, and throwing her hammer at the Aqua Bots like it was a big, deadly boomerang.
She smashed all of them with one swift throw.
“Aaaaaand... they’re gone.”
“Geez, girl, what took you so long?” Sonic sat down on the dock, shaking his wet quills. “What were you talking about back there?”
Amy sat next to him, staring at the entire Diamond City Bay. She played with her fingers for a bit, still processing what she just found out.
“Sonic, did you really keep it all this time?”
“The what, Amy?”
“My bracelet, you fool!” Amy snapped at him for a moment, before pulling out the old bracelet and quietly reflecting on it. “The one I made for you... you just dropped it during the battle.”
“Ah? Oh! That thing!” Sonic grabbed the bracelet from Amy’s hands, then checked if it was still in one piece. “I must’ve dropped it when the Aqua Bot just poured that big shot of water on me, ha ha!”
“I though it was lost, gone forever... how did you get it back?”
“Uhh... I...” Sonic hesitated for a bit.
“Yeah...?”
He tried to look away from the pink hedgehog looking straight at him with so many questions in her mind. He never actually told her what happened to that bracelet, and now he didn’t know how to explain it.
“I, well... found it... and fixed it... and... stored it back in my collection for a while...”
“OHMYGOSH!” Amy immediately jumped out of emotion, gasping and holding her hands to her chest. “Do you actually have a collection?!”
“Oh, shoot...” Sonic quickly realized his mistake, as Amy’s mind ran wild with the thought of him having lots more things from her than she actually imagined.
“And what does it look like?” Amy asked, following shortly with a rapid streak of more questions. “What cool stuff do you have there? Does anyone else know about it? Why didn’t you tell me before?!”
“Well, I guess I ran straight into this one...” Sonic thought, as he finally accepted it was time to let her enter his life just a little more.
“Alright, I’ll show you.” He let out, defeated.
“Yayyyy!” Amy happily grabbed Sonic’s arm, pulling him up and holding his hands. “C’mon, let’s not waste any more time!”
“Just hold on tight.”
And so, Sonic and a very enthusiastic Amy blasted away from the beach. On the way to Sonic’s secret collection, he kept thinking about it, letting out a couple more details about it to Amy as he carried her on his arms.
“You know... I always had a room at Tails’ place, since that’s where I end up crashing after a long adventure together.” Sonic commented. “For a while, the room was pretty empty, only having the bare essentials for me to chill around, but as I ran across the world, time and space...”
“You started collecting mementos?”
“That’s right. Nobody actually knows about it, so... take it as you will.”
Amy felt very touched by that last bit. “Aww, am I the first person to ever visit your collection? That’s so kind of you!”
She hugged Sonic just a little more tightly, closing her eyes and letting out a little tease. “But at the same time, you should’ve told your girlfriend about it earlier, boy!”
“And now you are pushing your luck.”
She didn’t see it, but Sonic blushed just a little at that comment.
After a running for a while, they reached Tails’ workshop at the Mystic Ruins, their main base. Sonic dropped Amy off at the entrance and quickly ran a lap around the place, realizing Tails wasn’t home. They entered the place from a main door located at the opposite side to where the Tornado’s hangar is, and walked through Tails’ living room. From there, upstairs was the fox’s bedroom, and downstairs was Sonic’s basement.
Sonic’s room was a cozy, well kept and well lit place. Posters of movies and advertisements were found on each wall, with only a couple of shelves holding comic books and videogames in between the myriad of colorful imagery. Behind a particularly large Chao in Space Episode VII poster was a hidden door, leading to an even smaller side-room with nothing but shelves holding all sorts of mementos from Sonic’s past adventures. The room was just big enough to fit both of them walking around with relative ease.
“Alright, here it is. Sonic’s collection.” Sonic introduced Amy with a surprisingly chill attitude, as if he secretly wanted someone to ever visit the place.
Amy was speechless. She took a moment to look around, and then started looking at a shelf on her left, completely ignoring the lonely chest sitting just at the right of the door.
“Wow, you really have everything in here!” Amy exclaimed with excitement. “Hey, that’s the bracelet from that guy... Chip was it, right?”
“Yup.”
“You know...” she reflected, “I was there for you when you spent most of your days trying to help him figure out his identity, right?”
“Well, I always stand for my friends, you know that.”
“Yet you didn’t even show up on time for our date...” Amy was still pretty dissapointed at how things turned out back then. She left the bracelet on the shelf, and then shifted her attention to a jar holding a pretty bright purple sustance in it.
“I wonder what is this stuff... hey Sonic, what’s in the jar?”
Sonic was standing in front of a shelf on the right side of the room, seemingly looking for something in particular, but he turned around to look at what Amy was holding.
“That? It’s the weird jelly-like chemical from the Chemical Plant” He told her, then shifted his tone to a more protective one. “I wouldn’t touch it if I were you.”
“Okay.” Amy followed Sonic’s warning and returned the jar to its place, then she did a slow lap around the room. “You really have made yourself a little personal museum down here, Sonic!”
That’s when she saw the lonely chest, peaking her curiosity.
“And what’s inside this chest?”
Sonic quickly looked at her, then turned away, visibly nervous.
“Uhh, Amy, I wouldn’t open it...”
It was a little too late to convince Amy Rose of all people not to look at something that already caught her attention. She slowly unlocked the old-looking chest, and her eyes widened at the discovery of what was inside.
“Hold on a second, I recognize this stuff...” Amy picked a very well preserved rose. “Isn’t this one the first rose I gave you... way back in Little Planet?” She gasped. “Oh my gosh, it is!”
“Oh, no...” he thought, knowing his biggest secret was finally uncovered.
“And this photo...” Amy chuckled a bit, “oh, you sneaky... you never told me we had a photo entering Twinkle Park!”
He scratched the back of his head and nervously smiled. “Yeah, well... that wasn’t our greatest moment...”
She turned back to him with a big ol’ smile. “I think you never told me because it’s clearly showing YOU chasing after ME! Hee hee!”
“Ha ha. Very funny.” He sarcastically let out, then looked away, once again trying to hide his blushing.
“Oh! And here’s the letter I wrote you when you went off to that weird interstellar amusement park! ...the letter you never replied to.”
Sonic started to feel a little unconfortable with Amy looking at that chest for so long, and so he tried to shift away her attention, possibly even away from the room.
“You know, there’s other interesting stuff to see here, not just from y-you...”
“Hush. I can’t believe you actually have a chest with our memories, Sonic!” Amy kept digging, “had I known about it earlier, I would’ve sent you more stuff!”
“Ah, well, now you know about it, so...” Sonic tried to convince her again, “what do you say we get out of here now? I’m kinda starving now...”
Amy dropped everything and looked at him. “Hmm, did I hear someone asking me out for some ice cream?” She smiled. “Let’s go then!”
They both left the room and Tails’ place. On their way to the ice cream shop.  Sonic let out a sigh of relief.
“Well, I’m glad we got out of there...”
"Why, though?” Amy curiously replied.
“Well, let’s just say some things are best left unseen.”
“Okay...” she winked at him, “that just means I’ll spend the night checking on it!”
Sonic awkwardly chuckled, as she happily leaned on his shoulder.

hey, hiii just wanted to ask about your thoughts/opinions on shadows character
Do you mean like.... Overall or how it’s been handled lately?
It also kinda depends on which version of Shadow. I mean, obviously from my set of 4 Shadows I have on my desk, I love him.
SO I guess we need to break it down.
Sonic Adventure 2 Shadow: I love this silly edgelord. He’s basically a teenager who’s also woken up from a really long nap. Have you ever had nap brain before? Because it sucks, and I like to think that’s part of why he’s so grumpy and also why he had so many memory problems. He might have been out of cryostasis, but his brain was still waking up. He’s moody, he’s probably going through hormone swings because, you know, teenager, and he’s trying to figure out where he stands in the world. This is the Shadow I was first introduced to when my cousin had the game system and I was watching him play it. I literally made my mom buy me a gamecube and the game because I wanted to play with Shadow. I’m always late to the game with stuff. I mean heck, I only just now started playing Sonic Forces and that’s been out since 2017, but this game REALLY impacted my view on the Sonic franchise.
Shadow in Shadow The Hedgehog: Okay so I know a lot of other people really hate his depiction in this game. They don’t like the idea of Shadow going THAT edge and liking guns and all of that stuff due to his PTSD with Maria. But honestly... I don’t mind it that much? Because there’s the whole thing about him having amnesia again or whatever. And what’s more interesting to look at from this game’s point of view is that, just like a lot of other things in the Sonic Franchise, it’s an AU. This is a choose your own adventure where you can literally decide if Shadow is going to freak out and go down the villain’s path, stay neutral and do his own thing, or realize that he needs his friends and go down the hero’s path. So even if you’re not super into him using guns, you could still have him go down that hero path and find his true self. Plus this thing has one of the most bangin’ theme songs Shadow’s ever had. Like all of his themes from games are pretty awesome, but I personally LOVE this one. Especially the extra m e t a l version by Little V.
Shadow in other games: He can be kind of hit-or-miss in the personality department here. You’ve got him in Sonic Heroes with amnesia... again. And possibly being an andriod. But honestly I love that “date to die for!” scene because it’s so dramatic! You’ve got him in Free Riders for some reason being willing to help Rouge get money in the race even though he’s never actually been willing to help before. In most games he’s just kinda sorta... there, and it feels like the writers don’t fully know what to do with him if he’s not the main focus of the game. There’s one big exception to that though:
Shadow in Sonic 06: The game everyone shits on, mostly just because of some of the graphics being shitty here and there in the actual gameplay and also the whole “Sonic hooking up with a human chick” thing. However, this is one of the best characterizations of Shadow. He cares about his friends, he gets given the support he needs, and in turn he also winds up giving that support to Silver. You know, after giving him a boot to the head. As bad as this game might have been, we did actually get relatively good character development for some of these characters, and Shadow was one of them. His willingness to do his part and take Silver “under his quills” as I’ve seen other people say, properly shows off his compassionate side rather than him just.... being dark and brooding. You know?
Boom Shadow: Eeeeh.... I’m not totally sure how to feel about this one? I love listening to his voice for sure. I like watching his fight scenes. But it feels like they’re making him edgy just for the sake of being edgy. And he’s really easily manipulated? I feel like, while Boom has done some great things with other characters, Shadow has gotten the short end of the stick. He’s kinda bland most of the time when it comes to his actual characterization, and he’s boiled down to a one-note kind of guy. So like, I don’t hate it but I really think I could do better.
IDK comics Shadow: They kinda did the same thing here. Shadow started out pretty darn great in that scene with Sonic and deciding what to do with Mr. Tinker. Seeing Sonic get under Shadow’s skin about it and making him back down was a great way of showing how the two have really gotten to understand each other over the years and that Sonic knows Shadow better than he’s willing to admit. That’s where my praise ends. Shadow then basically disappears until we get him back being stubborn as hell and jumping right into a pit of zombots and BOOM, just like that he’s taken out of the game. We’ll see how things go once this virus thing is over (because honestly I feel like it’s been lasting waaaay too long.) and if they use this to humanize him a bit more or if they keep him being super stubborn and one-note. But yeah, as of now I’m not super happy with how he’s been handled.
Shadow in the Archie Comics: HOO BOY I SAVED THE BEST ONE FOR LAST. And by best I mean worst. Where do I even begin with this one? Let me start by saying that I haven’t read all of the Archie comics yet. I’m working on it now, and I’m reading them somewhere online because they’re expensive as hell to get a hold of. But dear lord, this writing is usually horrible! Some of the writers work well together while others *cough*kenpenders*cough* don’t bother to read each other’s stories or will get pissy about their own plotlines not going anywhere and others having to fix them. Shadow is... yanked around so heavily in this series. In some stories, he’s great. He shows interesting characteristics and shows that he’s learning and growing. In others he’s just kinda.... there. In others he’s going completely against what he’s learned and is treating people like shit unless he’s manipulated to do otherwise. One of my absolute biggest complaint about the Archie series is: Tyrant Overlord King Shadow, from the 25/30 years later arch. It’s so bad, you guys. *disgruntled noises* Ken Penders basically had Shadow do a complete 180 despite everything he’s ever learned. He forcibly married Sally, became a tyrant of a king who ruled with an iron fist, and when Sonic kicked his ass and threw him in another stasis tube and he was brought back later, he unleashed this weird Tikal/Chaos creature out into the world to completely destroy it after feeding her so much chaos energy that he hurt her. Also the writer completely freaking forgot to actually END that story. Sonic and the New Freedom Fighters defeat and re-seal away “Tichaos,” but there’s no closure as to what happens to Shadow. It’s just Ken Penders going: “LOOK MY SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME OCS JUST SAVED THE DAY.” And it’s like.... okay, but what about Shadow? Did he escape? Is he still in the castle? Is there a second part to this? And sadly, that’s as far as I’ve read with that line and I don’t know if it got any further before they had to do the reboot. So yeah, Shadow is kinda shafted in these comics too.
Overall: I think he’s a really great character with a lot of wasted potential. He tends to shine more when the spotlight is fully on him because in that case, the writers realize they need to work on him more. But when he’s a side character, they boil him down to one-note and that’s really not a good thing to do with any character. (I should also note that I haven’t actually gotten to purchase the DLC yet of Shadow’s story for Sonic Forces, so I’ll need to go and watch the cut scenes before I can properly say anything on that particular game.)
The Sonic Franchise suffers overall from a case of: Too many characters. Now I wouldn’t change that about them, especially this late in the game. However we’ve been introduced to so many characters that none of them ever really get their chance in the spotlight anymore. Another artist that I can actually compare this to is actually VivziePop. She designs a LOT of characters for her works, and she puts so much effort into them that they all come across as “main character material” and completely overshadow the actual main character of the story. The biggest time that has impacted her work was in her comic Zoophobia. The main character was some human chick thrown into the world, but then she spent so long establishing all of the almost hundred characters she’d made for the world that the story itself felt like it de-railed. She’s gotten a bit better with Hazbin, but Charlie still gets really overshadowed. Some of the Archie comics got to be the same way. They had introduced so many characters at that point that they needed to do storylines that didn’t involve Sonic, and Ken Penders himself didn’t really like writing for Sonic because it was so restrictive, where as he had a lot of free reign with the other ones he’d made or that weren’t the main character. So he just kept making character after character to throw in there, and that combined with the characters we got from all of the assorted media over the years means a lot more characters to try and focus on. So the ones that don’t get their prime time in the spotlight just kinda never go anywhere. Also Shadow not being the main precious blue boy probably explains why his writing can be so wibbly-wobbly depending on the media he’s in. Because Sega isn’t breathing down anyone’s neck anywhere near as heavily as they are for Sonic.
I should probably stop typing now because I’ve written you a novel. XD
TL;DR: I love Shadow but he gets the shaft more often than not by the writers.

What are your headcannons for the kids from the four main All the Wrong Questions series?
oh geez there are so many
Lemony Snicket
Listen every character in the Snicketverse is autistic but Lemony? HIGH.KEY. This boy cannot stand sensory overload and also stims with verbal recitation.
After several months in Stain’d-by-the-Sea, the Associates got used to him just showing up and taking food. He eventually stopped asking, and then eventually stopped using the door. Moxie has, more than once, come downstairs to find him sitting on her counter eating cereal.
Beatrice snuck into town once to see how he was doing, saw him and Moxie trying to jump off the roof of the diner with a tablecloth parachute and Jake dragging them back and screaming, and she just turned right the fuck around and reported to their friends, “yeah he’s fine.”
Kit made him promise not to tell Jacques that she was almost in jail.
MODERN AU: Gets into twitter and tumblr fights with obvious trolls. Tried to call CPS on Theodora just to see what would happen. Can recite any “Unraveled” YouTube video on command. Has an extensive knowledge of Pokemon.
Moxie Mallahan
listen this girl is a lesbian in denial and she wrote Ellington Feint a note that said “get out of my town” because she didn’t know what else to do
She always kinda knew that her Mother was never coming back for her, but she didn’t admit it aloud until after Lemony left.
Moxie: I can eat ten marshmallows at once. Kellar: You are a hazard to yourself. Lemony: And a coward. Do twenty
Moxie knows how to pick every kind of lock, and how to break into every window. She takes her journalism very seriously and will get the truth even if she has to flip the world off as she does it.
MODERN AU: Blogger. Once spent a week straight putting together a project and then passed out for forty-eight hours. Still carries a typewriter with her everywhere. Had to physically stop Lemony from eating a tide pod.
Ellington Feint
Had literally no idea Lemony had a crush on her because she’s just that gay.
Actually popped up around town inbetween books constantly, mainly to chill with Cleo, Jake, the Bellerophons, and even Ornette. They just all neglected to mention this to Lemony.
She doesn’t remember anything about her mother. All she knows is what her father told her; that her mother used to make music boxes, loved coffee, and died in a fire.
Goes through a huge rebel/outlaw phase after escaping with Kit, because she’s completely lost and has no idea what to do or who to trust; her own father never gave a shit about her, as she now knows, so how could anyone care? Eventually she made her way back to Stain’d-by-the-Sea, where Moxie found her crying in the attic of Black Cat Coffee and awkwardly invited her to live in the lighthouse.
MODERN AU: Has been on the run from CPS for so fucking long. Quotes Gilmore Girls almost daily and will argue your ear off about why Rory/Paris should’ve been endgame. Once ate a tide pod. Cries while watching the Addams Family.
Kellar Haines
Even after the Train Incident, he basically lives with Moxie. He just can’t trust his Mom anymore, and while he claims otherwise, they didn’t really have a good relationship before then, either. Lizzie stays with him.
His special interest is in codemaking. He would’ve been really valuable to VFD if he’d gotten recruited. As is, Moxie kicks the ass of anyone who tries to kidnap him, so he’s fine.
He’s also super good at crafting, and can make really cool art projects whenever he has the time. Lizzie used to give him art supplies whenever she could, and still hangs his drawings on the lighthouse fridge.
He just gets so tired of his friends’ shit. He’d be a Mom Friend if he made any effort to stop them but as is he just kinda watches crap go down.
MODERN AU: Constantly goes to the movie theater just to chill. Addicted to YouTube. Is the only one of the squad not freaked out by the Watership Down movie. Asks existential questions at random to scare the squad and then immediately says “yeet” in a deadpan voice and throws Squeak across the room.
Pip and Squeak Bellerophon
They took over the taxi for their Dad when he fell ill. He died a few months later, and they kept claiming he was alive, in fear that they would get separated by whoever was in charge of their case. The only person they told is Jake, because he eventually followed them home to ask their Dad why the fuck he didn’t feed them and found that they were living alone, and Cleo, because Jake can’t keep secrets from her.
Pip and Squeak used to fight a lot, though they never intended any real harm. They slowly stopped after they started living alone, and Pip started kinda taking charge of keeping him and Squeak safe.
They used to be very tight with Qwerty, because they were constantly at the library. He suspected their situation, but never confirmed it and was alright just making sure the kids were okay. Squeak would sometimes climb on the bookshelves and knock them over, but thankfully Qwerty thought this was funny.
Squeak likes to “adopt” stray animals he finds in the backyard. Whenever he walks in going “gUESS WHO OUR NEW SIBLING IS,” Pip has to guess whether he’s going to bring in an injured baby bunny he can nurse back to health, or a squirrrel he just caught who is still struggling and about to destroy half the house.
MODERN AU: Pip has a Nintendo Switch that Squeak can only play Animal Crossing on. Squeak keeps posting photos on Instagram of him and Pip driving illegally but everyone thinks they’re edits. Squeak once very seriously told Pip that he would have to marry Jake so they could keep getting free food from him (before they found out he was dating Cleo). Have slept in library closets before and will again.
Cleo Knight
Identifies as Demi-bi. She and Jake met as preteens, when she wandered off and got lost, and went into the diner to use the phone and call Zada and Zora. Afterwards, she kept sneaking out to visit him.
Was much closer to Zada and Zora than her parents. She used to hang out in the kitchen with them, laying on the counter and practicing calculations or studying advanced chemistry while they cooked.
Also very very autistic. Can only eat certain things, because she has huge texture problems. Only Zada, Zora and Jake have ever gone out of their way to accommodate her without complaint.
Is incredibly reckless and never thinks anything through. While everyone knows she can take care of herself, it’s still nerve-wracking to see her run out the window, leaving only a note saying she’ll be back in three hours after trying to find a chemical, and coming back covered in blood that’s not her own.
MODERN AU: Was a Guardians of Ga’Hoole kid. Would exist on a diet of cheetos, cereal and sprite if not for her boyfriend. Once, Ornette helped her break out of the house to go to the movie theater to watch Lego Batman. Super into Stranger Things.
Jake Hix
Literally is the only reason the Associates are still alive. He gives them food and makes sure they don’t kill themselves doing some stupid reckless stuff.
Surprisingly, though, Cleo has had to physically stop him from fistfighting S Theodora Markson, who keeps forgetting to feed her fucking apprentice
Jake: As soon as I hit 18 I’m adopting you. Pip and Squeak, not even glancing over: Lit.
Has been in love with Cleo since they met. Since their relationship is technically “secret”, Hungry pretends not to notice, despite how increasingly obvious it gets. She knows she should technically discourage this, but he’s just. so in love. When he’s not working, he spends his time in him and Cleo’s garden.
MODERN AU: Has threatened to put parental locks on Lemony and Moxie’s phones multiple times. Keeps quoting The Princess Bride at Cleo, to the annoyance of the other Associates around them. Actually super into Doctor Who. Also keeps beating everyone’s ass in Mario Kart.
Ornette Lost
Has never once understood what was going on, but honestly she just rolls with it. “Guess we’re doing this now? Okay.”
Keeps bringing stray cats into her Uncles’ house and adopting them. She has twelve now. There is no stopping her.
Super close with Cleo and Jake. Mainly because she doesn’t mind third-wheeling, and will just fold origami when she gets bored, but also because she’s pretty good at dropping life advice and also is shockingly hilarious.
Lemony: Ornette. Why did the toaster blow up. Ornette: Hm?Lemony: Toaster. Blew up. Ornette: Oh. Yeah I blew it up Lemony: why Ornette:  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
MODERN AU: Very into anime, especially Fullmetal Alchemist. Lives on ice cream. Has OPINIONS on the Disney Reboots. She got expelled from school because she graffitied GAY RIGHTS on the side of the building, and then a couple of middle fingers.
Lizzie Haines
INCREDIBLY protective of Kellar. She had more part in raising him than their mother; she was reluctant to leave him for her apprenticeship, but he convinced her he’d be fine.
Sharon was a huge perfectionist in regards to Lizzie’s talents and studies, so Lizzie always felt very distant from her. When she left for her apprenticeship, she ended up bonding with Sally Murphy, to the point where Lizzie saw her as more of a parent figure.
Lizzie noticed suspicious activity going on around town, and started investigating, even though Sally didn’t think anything was wrong. Lizzie had a conspiracy board and everything. She was kidnapped just as she was piecing everything together.
It took her quite a few months to break out, but once she did, she immediately went hardcore and figured out how best to knock people out and keep them away from her. She had a lot of trauma that emerged after the Train Incident, but Kellar got very good at figuring out how to calm her down.
MODERN AU: Hangs Christmas lights around her room and glowing stars on her ceiling. Knows more about Sonic the Hedgehog lore than the other Associates could ever understand. Huge Marvel/Star Wars fan. She has memorized all of Chicago, Hairspray, Black Panther, The Empire Strikes Back and Mamma Mia.

Barry Allen X !Fat Reader - A Flash Of Love Ch.1
Tumblr media
-Please note that fat and chubby are two different things and are not one in the same. This will be centered around a fat reader, bigger than a chubby person as requested by the commissioner. If you see the word fat as offensive, sorry, bit I'm not changing it.-
---
“(Y/N), did you pack those documents for the ambassadors, we need them for that diplomatic meeting after the recon mission.” Grabbing said files from your top desk drawer, you shoved them into your briefcase along with the many other files and packets needed.
Shutting the briefcase, you strapped it on top of your suitcase to take onto the plane. “Just put it in Diana, do we need anything else?”
Your boss, Diana Prince walked out of her office, suitcase behind her and a smile on her face. Of course five months ago, you found out that your cheerful boss was in fact the badass superhero – Wonder Woman.
Needless to say, you fangirled a little bit when you found out. You could remember when Wonder Woman made her debut to the city and from that day on, you idolized her; she was your icon. You wanted to be like her in every aspect: strong, courageous, selfless and brave. Honestly, after finding out your boss was your iconic superhero – you still felt the same.
You still wanted to be just like her. How she can juggle so much and still be a top rate boss and superhero; it was truly amazing to you.
“No, I think that’s it, let’s head to the plane, Bruce should be there by now.” Smiling at her, you followed behind her.
Diana and you were on your way to a secret location to meet with some of the Justice League. Usually, she wouldn’t take you with her on these missions, but they needed all hands on deck and that included Bruce Wayne who to your surprise was Batman, who was bringing someone with him as well.
Getting into the car with Diana, it started down the street, your mind wondering once more. Your life felt like a dream at this point; working with superheroes and helping with recon missions and meeting all of these wonderful people that accept you the way you are.
Being fat in a life that’s filled with superheroes wasn’t the nightmare you thought it would be. Your mind first thought of how critical and judgmental they might be because of your body especially since you were going to be working closely with them, but it was the total opposite.
All of them had been so nice and welcoming and accepted you the way you are – rolls and all.
Diana’s voice brought you out of your thoughts. “I’m sorry, what did you say?” She only laughed already knowing you were daydreaming away as you did sometimes.
“I said thank you (Y/N), for everything that you’ve helped out with, with the league and all.” Her words made you swell with pride. Wonder Woman herself was thanking you for helping, you could die happy at this point. Giving her a wide smile you shook your head.
“It’s no problem at all Diana,” Leaning back, you relaxed in the seat. “I enjoy helping you all as much and in any way I can… what you guys do is amazing and to be connected to that, it’s truly an amazing opportunity and I’m grateful for it,” Raising your pointer finger toward Diana, you finished with, “I should be the one thanking you.”
“You’re too good to be true sometimes (Y/N).” You both shared a light laugh as the car came to a stop, indicating that you arrived at the plane.
The door opened, the sunlight pouring in a little as a deep voice said, “It’s always laughs with you two, I always wonder how you both can be so carefree.” Diana scoffed at the voice, a hand extending itself to help her out of the car; followed by yourself. Thanking none other than Bruce Wayne himself for helping you out, you decided to answer him.
“I guess we just tend to see the brighter side of things.” Grabbing your suitcase from the trunk, you pulled the handle up before sending Bruce a smile.
“That, and we know how to actually smile, a little something you might want to work on.” Diana piped up, adding her own tidbit to the conversation. Her words made you giggle, especially at Bruce’s reaction which wasn’t really anything, it was neutral really, but it still brought amusement to you anyways.
All three of you made your way to the plane – Bruce’s own private plane of course. Since it was a low-key mission and all, this was the easiest way to get from point A to point B.
“So, where’s your new side kick?” Diana’s amusement was evident in her voice as your eyes scanned over the two, awaiting his answer. You were curious about this mystery person too. Bruce didn’t really say much about this new addition to the League and needless to say, your curiosity was getting the better of you.
The Dark Knight sighed and rubbed his dark circled eyes, most likely from the lack of sleep. “He’s not my sidekick, but he’ll be a great addition with his powers.” Now, that piqued your interest. Your mind ran through many powers, wondering which one it could be. It was times like this that you wished you had some neat and mind blowing super power to help them out more besides providing paperwork and other minuscule assistants that was needed.
Climbing the stairs to the plane, Diana asked the burning question, “So, what exactly is their power?” Before Bruce could answer, a red blur startled the both of you as it zoomed from the cockpit of the plane, straight to the back. Blinking a few times, you wondered if you actually saw what you did, or if it was all just a trick played by your eyes.
“What was-.” Bruce cut off Diana’s question with a bit of a cocky tone. “That,” He pointed to a boy now seated near the back of the plane, flipping through a comic book. “Is our new addition.” You could practically hear the smirk etched on Bruce’s face, but you were focused on the boy that he pointed out. He was pretty damn cute.
He hadn’t picked up on the audience in front of him, which gave you a little bit to admire him from afar. He was average height, even though he was sitting down, you could still tell. Your eyes moved up his frame, which was lithe in comparison to your soft one, he had a little bit of muscle to him, the way his biceps flexed each time he turned a page in his comic book was proof enough. Biting your lip, your gaze went up and past his cherry red lips, the adorable smile that played on them as his deep brown eyes scanned the comic he was immersed in and his shaggy dark hair, some of it tickling his forehead as he had his head bent.
“So, does this new addition have a name?” Your voice filtered through the small plane. His head shot up, comic closing as he did so. Before you could utter another word, a bright, red streak appeared and before you knew it, the mystery addition was in front of your face, a wide smile stretching across his face.
“You’re probably tired of the angst treatment from Batman, so I thought I’d introduce myself.”
He held his hand out toward you. Grasping it, you gave it a hearty shake. “My name’s Barry. Barry Allen.” You hummed and smiled up at Barry.
“I’m (Y/N). Diana’s assistant.”
“So, is red lightning your power, or…?”
Before Barry could answer, Bruce cleared his throat as he ushered you both with his hands to sit down in the seats. “How about we get airborne before we start talking.” Barry cleared his throat and stepped to the side, gesturing you to walk ahead of him which you did. Going toward the back, to where Barry was originally sitting, you took a seat next to the window, by his seat, where the comic laid.
With everyone seated, the plane engine started up, and before you knew it, you were in the air, soaring above the clouds.
“Anyways,” Barry started as you turned your attention to him. “It’s not lighting per se, well I mean, it’s the aftermath of my power and all, which is pretty cool,” You laughed at his ramblings as he tried to explain his powers.
“I’m rambling again…” He muttered to himself before shaking his head and turning in his seat to look at you fully.
“What I’m trying to say is, my power is speed, like faster than the speed of light type of speed. I’m kind of like Sonic the Hedgehog on steroids you can say.” Nodding at his explanation, your laugh echoed off the walls of the plane, making you cover your mouth.
“Hey, don’t hide your laugh, it’s cute,” Removing your hand, you felt a flush rise up onto your chubby cheeks. “Though, I understand why you’re laughing. My power seems like something out of some video game, huh?” Shaking your head, you waved him off.
“Well, if something like pickle Rick is possible, I’m sure super speed is up there too.” Barry smiled and cocked an eyebrow.
“Rick and Morty fan?” Nodding, you leaned back into the comfy plane seat, lolling your head to the side so you could continue talking with Barry. “My friend got me into the show and after the first few episodes, well, let’s just say I spent my weekend binge watching until my eyes were sore.”
Barry chuckled at your words, nodding along as if silently saying he did the same thing.
“So, (Y/N), what power do you have?” Your smile faltered as you sunk in your seat a bit. You started to twiddle your thumbs and such, a habit you picked up when you were nervous or didn’t really want to talk much, like now.
“I don’t have a power… I’m just normal, nothing special with super speed, strength or an unlimited amount of money to buy me super special gadgets and toys.” The last part made Barry smile, your humor was a breath of fresh air, especially with stoic, serious league members surrounding him.
“Eh, superpowers are overrated anyways, besides, being an assistant must be pretty awesome.”
Scoffing, you nudged his shoulder a bit. “Oh yeah, making packets and copies of super important documents and treaties is so thrilling, but I think the most amazing part of it is booking hotel reservations and taking calls all day – nothing beats that.” The sarcasm that dripped from your voice was evident.
“Well, that all sounds pretty important to me.” Smirking at his words, you looked out the window, nothing but clear blue skies were in your view. You could feel yourself dozing off as you leaned your head back against the headrest. You could feel your eyes start to droop as sleep was calling to you.
Closing your eyes, you heard Barry let out a low laugh, probably at something in his comic which brought a smile to your face. His laugh was nice, he seemed nice. Hopefully during this mission, you’ll be able to get to know this new addition better. Before sleep consumed you, you felt something warm and fuzzy being placed over you, the chill from the plane gone as a sleepy smile spread across your face.

Toxic Fandom, Public Heartbreak, And The Feedback Loop
Travis Riddle – October 29, 2019
Fandom by Waterparks is one of my favorite albums of the year, regardless of the fact that…I am friends with the band. There was not a single track that immediately stood out as my favorite like Take Her to the Moon and Peach on previous albums--but I think that's because everything on this one is so good, it's impossible to choose one. I Miss Sex/War Crimes/I Felt Younger would probably comprise my top 3, but every song is fantastic. And the album is on the shorter side but you truly don't feel that length, these songs all go through so many different movements--lyrically and musically--that every song is just dense as hell and it feels a lot longer than it is, while still not feeling overwhelming or messy at all. It flows great and hits some really interesting themes.
This write-up was initially sent to Awsten on the album’s release date, and I’ve edited it a little below for clarity/brevity, because I would not shut up about it.
Tumblr media
1. Cherry Red - Starting the album off with that bark/yell is so tight. A year and a half ago in that parking lot going to get crawfish together I didn't really "get" this song, but after hearing the album several times it really clicked for me. I love how it acts as kind of a setup to the whole thing, getting the listener into your mindset and introducing one of the main themes of the album. I also like how it continues your color motifs; "blue and yellow let’s get together and be green" has now gone bad and turned to sour green, and it seems like cherry red is replacing yellow (red + yellow = orange hmmmmm). I also love how "You know I died for you" ties into the closing track, "I said I loved you to death so I must be dead."
2. WWHN - A really great choice for the first full song of the album to set the tone for the Fandom theme in contrast with Cherry Red setting up the emotional side of the lyrics. It's also a goddamn jam so it's great at hyping up right at the start hahah. I've probably told you everything about this already but I like what you're saying in this, and how it's something probably every single artist goes through in their career, but no one seems to say in a critical way (that I’m aware of). I'm sure this and other songs will make some fans upset because they're being called out but I like that, and it's some stuff that needs to be said.
3. Dream Boy - Lots of good stuff about fan expectations in this, dressed up in metaphors and really catchy pop to catch people off-guard. Love the phrase "Build-A-Boy, pick your pieces" and "Do you believe in love and is it because of me?" With people's weird way of crafting their whole lives and beliefs and desires on these celebrities that they don't know personally at all yet are so invested in.
4. Easy to Hate - I feel like this is the most straightforward and "simple" song thematically, but man it is so catchy. The sound effect that I'm sure is your voice in the opening before the verse is so damn cool. I like this first real hint of the colors turning to red. This is thematically pretty similar to other demos like ********* and Play and stuff so with how catchy and big this chorus is, it's easy to see why you chose this one to cover that topic. I'm also a sucker for someone doing the chorus in a song but stripped down like you do here. Those harmonies in the final chorus are also soooo good..........
5. High Definition - You're on some Imogen Heap-ass shit here and it's dope. I like this as a single choice since I feel like the emotional side of the album really hinges on this track--it's not a breakup album in the typical sense (aside from like Easy to Hate and Worst), but rather it's about the aftermath of the breakup and the emotional state surrounding that, the doubts and insecurities and vulnerabilities of losing trust in everybody due to one person’s actions, and this song is such a direct and succinct and sad encapsulation of that. Hate how this whole song makes me feel for my friend but it's also really pretty and good.
6. Telephone - This is some real Hellogoodbye-ass shit here with the ending of the chorus hahah. The juxtaposition between this and High Definition is interesting, basically both songs coming to the same conclusion--not committing to a relationship--but in totally opposite ways. With this one basically being "I won't tell you how I'm feeling, I'll just go write lyrics/sing voice memos/tweet." Is this about the damn pretty Target girl you tweeted about once? "Now I'm living on a target" and "all these aisles feel like miles" hmmmmMMM. This wasn't my favorite when I first heard it but it realllllly grew on me and now I love it. The chorus is so good and I love what you're doing with the music/harmonies in the background of it. Also the dumb shit after "I'll follow" always makes me laugh. Then the dichotomy between this/HD is emphasized in the closing Wedding Singer sample which I feel like represents the fandom; you’re going through this huge emotional turmoil, but we’re reaping the benefits by getting great songs out of it.
7. Group Chat - It works as a goofy little interlude but I also like what it says thematically (if I'm not just pulling this out of my ass anyway). On one hand it seems to me like a commentary on the inanity of some fan group chats, how in some of them they all act like they're best friends but really it's just a surface-level friendship. "My name's [whatever] and we're all friends! :D" and then also with the effect on your voice, seems to imply to me how mentally draining everyone in the fandom can sometimes be on you more so than Geoff and Otto.
8. Turbulent - I know some people just gotta have their metaphors and shit in their lyrics but I love how direct this song is. Just plainly stating things makes them feel so much more raw and real. I can't see how you could more powerfully convey the anger and hurt than with "I'd unfuck you if I could." Also the "sOoOoO" in the second chorus is still best part (also the barks). Also the pitched-down backup vocals are tight in this song, really gets you into the frantic, pissed off headspace.
9. NBA - I like the potential double meaning of the chorus in this one; everyone in LA looks like you cause I'm missing you and seeing you everywhere, but also it’s kind of insulting, like "everyone in LA looks like you, you're not special." But aside from that, another very pretty albeit sad song. The chorus with full instrumentation and harmonies really hits hard. I also like the 11:11 connection with tying breath in knots; you're always really great at bringing back recurring images and lines in your writing, it makes your discography feel really connected and like you're actually writing these things, it's not some producer in a studio writing lyrics for you. These songs all lead into each other; the songs on Fandom could not exist without what came before in DD and Entertainment. That evolution is always really interesting to see, how these different motifs recur and change their meaning over time. I assume the main metaphor of this might also be a callback to Crybaby with “chasing through dreams in bloom.”
10. IMHSBALIDWDA - Definitely one of my favorites, it's just so damn fun. And once again some cool vocal effect you have going on in the background, which I always love. The lyrics here are fun but also biting; I've been thinking of this as a commentary on how fans don't really care about an artist's well-being or life even if they try to act like they do, they just want new songs and good performances and new merch etc. etc. no matter what it means the artist is going through or how they feel when they sing these emotionally devastating songs. So the chorus to me is kinda like a self-care anthem in a way, setting aside all the negative stuff and admitting to yourself hey, at least I feel kind of better now; maybe not entirely better, but I'm getting there.
11. War Crimes - Another song with sad lyrics but musically it goes so damn hard, another favorite. "I'm forgetting how to hate myself" is one of my favorite lyrics on the album, as is "My death will be the fandom." I don't even totally know what to say about this song cause sooo much is going on and it's just crazy. "Let's go!" is also a favorite moment. And the "I saved my own life" calling back to Not Warriors is tight.
12. [Reboot] - Hey is "I need to sleep alone" a reference to Sleep Alone!!!!!?!???? I've already talked to you about this song a lot too so I don't have much new to say. The vocal effect on the bridge is dope. The breaths before verse 2 are maybe my favorite part, as well as what you do on "all on you" including holding out "you" into the chorus. And whatever's going on in the background at the end of that second chorus, I can't tell if it's vocals or instruments or what, but it sounds really cinematic and cool.
13. Worst - This new version is so cool, it has so much texture that the demo didn't. Vocals are also really pretty. The added bass and electronics really add a lot of rhythm and an interesting vibe to this; the bass is almost jazzy in a way? But then the electronics/percussion are almost like a dance beat but really stripped down? I dunno, it's such an odd combination, especially with the guitar just being acoustic. One of the most interesting songs on the album sonically despite being comparatively "simple" at first listen.
14. Zone Out - My least fave just because it's such a simple interlude, but what I like that it does is like...basically comments on the preceding songs I guess? It's like a question to the listener. At the beginning you've got Dream Boy setting up their expectations, then this comes at the very end and essentially asks them, "After hearing all of these angry heartbroken songs, am I still your dream boy? Do you still think love exists because of me even though I've gone through all this and don’t believe in it myself?" I like that it makes the listener confront their previous feelings and expectations before we dive into the finale.
15. IFYWWM - First off I absolutely love the effect you put on the vocals at the start of this, especially with how that effect abruptly cuts off; it's so weird and interesting and I never get tired of hearing it. The difference between the demo and this final version is amazing, I love this song. And "I said I loved you to death so I must be dead" is such a great one-two punch; it hits hard as a "fuck you!" line with being a way to say you don't love her anymore, but then you realize how sad it is that the effect has been this emotional death that pervades the entire album and eventually leads right back into Cherry Red. Which is also a depressing ending; it's so abrupt without any closure about anything talked about on the album, and the way that it circles back into the opener kind of implies to me that maybe there's a sense of circularity to everything, it's unending, the songs will always be fueled by heartbreak and the emotional trauma will never go away and dealing with it in the public eye of the fandom will always be overbearing.

you've probably gotten this question before, and i don't mean this in a hostile manner or anything of the sort, but if sonic has been such a rough ride for you for so many years now, why do you still call yourself a sonic fan? again, not trying to be hostile or judgemental or anything, just curious as to your take on what it means to be a sonic fan to you even when a lot of the games have been less-than-good for over a decade now
It is 100% valid to ask a question like this; the only problem is when people try to be snarky about it or mean it in a back-handed way, which you aren’t.
I think the answer will be different depending on who you ask.
For me, it’s a lot of different reasons. When Sonic first debuted on the Sega Genesis, I desperately wanted one. It created almost like this obsession in me, as I sought the thing I couldn’t have. When I finally got a Genesis for my birthday in 1994, I gorged myself on all the Sonic games I’d been missing, but it still didn’t feel like enough. I was kind of trapped in this state of wanting more Sonic games.
So I got in to the TV shows. I got in to the comic books. In my freshman year of high school in 1998, we were introduced to the internet at large. Our computer lab was running PowerMacs with Netscape Navigator, and though we were told to only use the internet for school projects, the very first time I was left alone in the lab I looked up Sonic the Hedgehog fan sites.
In 1999, we got the internet at home, where I was free to look up whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I ended up in communities with other Sonic fans, like Missy’s Sonic Chat, The Moogle Cavern, and Sonic Fan Games HQ.
And to cut a long story short, I guess it’s that sense of community that’s kept me around. I know people who still like Sonic games, so it ends up being something we commiserate over together. And I don’t think it’s controversial to say that fans are doing more interesting things with Sonic these days than Sega is, so that community ends up self-sustaining itself. Fans become fans of fans.
And there’s that sense of pulling for the underdog, too, right. I’ve mentioned many times about how fans like to “fix up” broken games. There are mods to “fix” Aliens: Colonial Marines, or STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, or the original Watch_Dogs, or whatever.
It’s like that little shriveled up Christmas tree at the end of A Charlie Brown Christmas special: a dried up little twig that just needs a little love. Some people just have that instinct in them to care for things like that.
youtube
And that desire to "rescue" this poor little franchise can be pretty strong. Sonic used to be so powerful as a series, and now it's not, so you almost can’t help but fantasize how you’d fix it. How you’d make the games better, how you’d make the narrative better, and so on. And that kind of stuff just strengthens community interactions even more. I mean, just think about how many people have videos or essays or whatever about how they’d fix Sonic. You might say nobody can agree, that it’s a bunch of arguing, but there’s a lot of legitimate discussion in there, too.
And, for me, more personally, it was also agreeing to write for TSSZ. Sonic 06 burned me really badly; I just mentioned how it kind of retroactively ruined Sonic games I used to love. I was starting to drift away from the Sonic franchise because it was difficult to look at. Then, in late 2007, maybe early 2008, Tristan asked if I wanted to write for TSSZ.
Not long later, we (re)opened the site by covering the Sonic Unleashed leaks, which lead to me getting a review copy of Sonic Unleashed, review copies of all the DLC, and over that next year, I gradually softened and was back in again.
And now that I’ve survived Sonic 2006, it’s like… well, I’m here forever, I guess. If that didn’t push me out, nothing will, and it’s technically my responsibility to play and talk about Sonic games now, so that’s that. There’s a bit of pride in that now, too. Lots of people have ideas on how they would fix Sonic, but I think I’m a pretty good writer and my perspective is my own. There’s a part of me that wants to keep doing this, even if the games aren’t very good anymore.

I translated Nintendo Dream Web’s Team Sonic Racing Article - an interview with Team Sonic!
Under the cut, I translated the entire article that was an in-character interview with Team Sonic! I hope you enjoy it. Lots of cool stuff in here!
Tumblr media
Team Sonic is the first team for this unique car racing game, Team Sonic Racing. The characters are inherently drawn to each other.  So we interviewed the Sonic racers "directly"!
Team Sonic Racing has adopted a novel gimmick, in which teams of three work together to gain points and to also finish first. These factors will determine who is the winner of these races. There is also the fact that the team members cooperate with each other. During the race, they have conversations that are dynamic and lively! In addition, many characters who have had few opportunities to show their faces in recent years are also participating in the game. Moreover, they are all active in "Adventure Mode" where you can enjoy the story that challenges a "Grand Prix Race" sponsored by the mysterious "Dodonpa".
Tumblr media
Therefore, we have conducted “direct” Q&A interviews with the characters who are taking part in the “Grand Prix Race.” Here, we will deliver the interview every Tuesday on a team-by-team basis for all 5 teams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We hope that Sonic fans and newcomers who are not very familiar with these characters will enjoy this Q&A!
By the way, this is an interlocking project with the Nintendo Dream’s June issue. There are also questions published only in this journal, so don't miss out on anything.
The guest this time is “Team Sonic.” It consists of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
Tumblr media
Sonic the Hedgehog (Speed Type) A blue hedgehog who moves at the speed of sound. Usually he’s in good spirits. While often carefree, he gets serious when he witnesses something crooked. He’ll be in a car this time to race with his friends in the “Grand Prix Race!”
Tumblr media
Miles Tails Prower (Technique Type) A kind-hearted young fox with two tails.  He loves tinkering with machines, and has developed a variety of mechanisms to support Sonic on his adventures. Of course, he’s the one who’s behind these racing cars.
Tumblr media
Knuckles the Echidna (Power Type) The long time rival and friend of Sonic.  He is proud of his power and he’s a good fighter, but he often works well in a team with Sonic and Tails.
Q) What do you think about this unusual rule of racing as a team?
Tails: The only condition specified by Dodonpa was that it was a competition for teams of three. I thought something was curious about that, but now we can cooperate as a driving team and I’m grateful to him!
Sonic: If it was all about speed then these races wouldn’t be interesting. Looks like I’ll have to give myself a handicap to make it fair. (laughs)
Knuckles: Watch yourself, Sonic!  You better not be saying that I am a handicap to you!
Sonic: (chuckles) I'm kidding, Knuckles (laughs).  If it’s about teamwork then we are the best! We won’t lose to any team!
Q) What’s your favorite part of your machine?
Sonic: The sleek blue body, red wheels, and a lightweight high-power engine specializing in high-speed performance are the features of my car. Doesn’t it resemble me when I’m zooming down the track?
Tails: I like my car’s simple design that pursues function over beauty and with all of that it makes it look like a classic race car. Contrary to the appearance, the high power engine works well on bad road surfaces; so my performance shouldn’t be hindered. Knuckles: Sonic may have said he likes the colors, but my car’s strength is it’s... strength! Even rocks and ice are nothing when I pound them down!
Tumblr media
Q) Among the many items that can be used in the race, which do you like?
Sonic: Items in the race?  Ah ... you mean the Wisps?  A lot of wisps help us in our race, but I like the White Wisp the most.  You can seriously speed up with a strong "boost"! Tails: Yeah! I like Orange Rocket Wisp.  It’s really fun to shoot it forward and I love it when I get a hit!  I'm sorry for the person I hit, though... (worried smile) Knuckles: I like Black Bomb Wisp.  It's hard to land a shot, but when you blow up several cars together in a big explosion, it feels awesome!
Tumblr media
Q) What’s your favorite course?
Sonic: Courses, huh... Every course has a great flow and is interesting, but the first course,  The Wisp Circuit is entirely paved and I can enjoy my full speed! I like it. Though... only half of the whole track is actually paved (laughs). Tails: Yeah, I like the Wisp Circuit too because it’s easy to go through. My machine can handle the grass on the sides of the road! No slow down at all! So I can dominate the course unlike anybody else! Knuckles: On the contrary, I can’t say I’m a fan of "Boo’s House"  within the pyramid.  King Boom Boo and the other ghosts he makes are stupid and bring back bad memories!
Tumblr media
Q) Which racers or teams do you consider your rivals?
Sonic: Rivals, hmmm ... if we’re talking about rivals in this race, it's definitely Shadow.  That guy is known as the  "Ultimate Life Form" and is said to be the "fastest.” So I'm going to step up to the challenge and take him on!  Oh, but I'm always confident about my racing, so it's just good to have a “playmate” (laughs). Knuckles: There’s one racer that I have in mind.  If it’s about strength then I better be on my toes when taking on Eggman! Tails: Really? Don’t you think you should be more focused on Team Dark’s Rouge? Knuckles: Wh-wh- uh, shut up!  Well, I  guess I have to worry about her too!  (sweat) Tails: Oh yeah, sorry about that.  I wonder if Amy’s team is worth worry about.  I'm sure the race will be more aggressive if she’s involved.
Please share your words of enthusiasm about the race!
Tails: It's still a mystery as to why Dodonpa is holding this race. However, I’m interested in the fact that teams are working together. For everybody reading this article, please experience the very best in team racing! Knuckles: You have to be sure to win the race. Otherwise, you might forfeit your ride! If you stick with me, you can use my car, “The Land Breaker!” Sonic: Well, seems like everybody is in the race for their own reasons, but I am happy to team up. This time the other teams will also have strong rivalries, but we will show they can’t beat the three of us and our power of teamwork!
Last, but not least
This is “Team Sonic Racing” where Sonic and his friends work in teams in high speed races! A variety of courses composed of new and past stages, music that’s a must-hear for fans, customization options for cars with dozens of colors, and more! All Sonic fans and racing fans in general will enjoy this wild ride. It will be released on May 21 (Tuesday)!
