What kind of pet I think each of the Ashes to Ashes gang would have, if they had one:
Alex:
She seems a cat person for sure. I can see her having a very cuddly cat. But I can also see her thinking anything like a cat or a dog was too high maintenance for her lifestyle, and having something simpler and more relaxing like a tank of fish.
Gene:
I think he wouldn't voluntarily get a pet, but if some old lady or something gave him an animal and asked him to look after it when she can't anymore he wouldn't have the heart to refuse, so in my head if he ends up with a pet it's some absolutely ridiculous tiny lapdog with about two braincells who he keeps a secret as long as possible and pretends to hate whenever anyone finds out about it, but who he secretly spoils rotten.
Ray:
Ray is the king of overcompensating, he'd definitely get some large scary dog that he thinks makes him look tough and manly. (He's secretly terrified of it as well and within a week is frantically phoning up colleagues and begging them to help.)
Chris:
I'm getting strong mouse or hamster vibes for sure. I don't even need to elaborate. This man has a tiny pet and is gentle as hell with it.
Shaz:
Definitely has some kind of unconventional pet with a bad reputation, a rat or a snake, or possibly a tarantula. When people find out about it and freak out she gets offended and defensive and launches into a ted talk about how misunderstood this animal is and how it actually makes for a delightful pet. (Chris is defensive of it as well in her honour, but secretly scared of it. But he's being so brave about it)
Viv:
I can vividly picture him lovingly stoking a rabbit. I think he finds it very relaxing.
SuperMac:
This man keeps pigeons. He has pigeon breeder vibes if ever I saw them. No I won't elaborate.

-disrupt-
in todays concept development workshop i used mind-maps to further explore my project idea as i acknowledged it was far too broad. ultimately, i decided to change my project a little.
i was determined to stick to the topic of our actions as humans disturbing the environment and so i thought of exploring the overconsumption of meat and the devastating environmental impact it has.
i believe that consuming animals can be acceptable, but the current scale of overconsumption is problematic. the environmental consequences, including water pollution, gas emissions and deforestation highlight the need for a more balanced snd sustainable approach.
i currently work in a supermac’s and todays workshop reminded me of the significant amount of food that goes to waste there every. single. day. most of it being meat- it’s so depressing to see .

Population density map of Scandinavia.
SuperMac:
Data source: https://www.geonames.org/ (Places, coordinates, population)
Map: https://kepler.gl
Some notes:
Yes, I am aware Finland is not normally included in “Scandinavia”. No need to be upset.
The map is created by placing circles for all towns/villages in the data set, with a radius based on population. If several circles intersect the color is getting lighter/yellow.  Water is always dark.
Åland - the island between Finland and Sweden was missing from the data set.
See our blog: http://bitesofdata.se for more interesting maps and statistics (in swedish).

November 24, 2019, the most magical day of my life. ❤
Okay! Hard part is over! 😛 I don’t really like being the center of attention and all. You might say it’s the same since everyone will still be looking at us the entire time. But, with the other half, the reception — people are more relaxed. Everyone will be dancing, talking to each other, singing and eating their hearts out! So, less judging and critical eyes on us. 😀
Our Reception was held at Aquila Crystal Palace. It’s about 30 – 40 minutes from our Ceremony. We had time to relax and just talk to each other in the car on the way there. Mind you, we were still with our bride & groom assistants.
To give you a preview – here’s what it looked like. ❤
BUT BUT BUT! Before we get to that, let’s go back to the start. Shall we? While we were taking our post-nup pictorial, we prepared welcome snacks and drinks for our guests!
Our supplier for this Gabrielle’s Appetizer. We prepared 200 mini sandwiches (cucumber & kani, chicken salad, tuna salad, egg & bacon), 150 mini burgers (chicken and beef), 200 crostinis (gorgonzola bacon, goat cheese & fig ham, prosciutto & brie, smoked salmon) and 2 gallons of cucumber lemonade
I’m so happy to be hearing good feedback from our guests! Their favorites? the mini burgers! But before they can eat, they will pass by our Signages!
I’m proud to say that I designed all the layouts, with the help of my husband, of course. ❤ We decided to maintain the theme of our invitation – White Marble is such a classic and classy design. Aside from the welcome signage, I wanted to add a little extra! – An Infographic of our love story. ❤
While others are eating or taking a photo in our photobooth, we also prepared some games before everything starts!
I personally created a Word Search Game with Startbucks GC for their prizes! I devised a personalized puzzle with words that have roles or connected to our relationship. For instance – Management Trainee (we were both Management Trainees in a bank. This is how we met) 😀 Everything is so much more special when it is personalized. Do you agree?
Before they officially enter the reception area, I also insisted that I wanted a signage for their Seating Arrangement:
I’m definitely proud of this! I’m a huge, huge fan of F.R.I.E.N.D.S! I insisted to insert the friends theme in our seating arrangement! The heading is The One Where We got Married (just like how all their titles are worded). ❤ I also named our tables with all the memorable lines / quirks of the series such as Pivot, Big Fat Goalie, How you Doin and etc.
I also asked our host to ask our guests whether they know what theme our seating arrangement is. I prepared a FRIENDS themed prize also, which I bought online (a Friends Door Keychain).
The One thing that will welcome our guests upon entering the place is our Animated Monogram.
At first, I wanted a White Background with Gold font for our names. But our coordinator pointed out that I may not be seen if the background is also white. 😛 So, we decided to switch to Dark Green, still in line with our theme. ❤
Okay! So when we arrived at the scene, it’s time for our make-up retouch and time to fill our stomach with the incredible feast we chose for our guest. ❤ It was really delicious. While we were having our early dinner, there’s another game inside the reception: TRIVIA GAME where we gave out bags of chocolates for every correct answer. Some of the questions were: First movie together, Who said I love you first, Term of Enderament, Favorite Series Marathon food. (Some of the answers to the questions were posted in our Infographic) 😀 Clever. Huh?
Initally, we wanted the Fireworks at the end of the program. But we were also hesitant to schedule it after since it was Sunday and our guests might leave early.
Proven! Guests really do enjoy the fireworks! It also elevates your event! ❤ After the fireworks, guests were asked to return to their seats for the Grand Entrance. 😛
Our Bridal Squad were introduced in the tune of Dura by Daddy Yankee. while our Groom Squad danced to Boneless by Steve Aoki.
As you can see, our male squad is definitely more coordinated with Matt Stefanina dance moves. Hence, they won the challenge of who’s better. 😛
Followed by the entrance of our esteemed entourage, our Prenup / Save the Date Video was shown to all of our guests.
And our Grand Entrance in the tune of Good Life by One Republic, inspired by our Wedding Hashtag of #itsJANNAbeaJUDElife transalated as It’s gonna be a good life.
TIP: Please please be witty enough to think of your own wedding hashtags! One, it’s simply fun. Two, it will encourage your guests to use your hashtag. Three, you’ll have an easier time in collating pictures and videos related to your event if it’s clear that YOU are the only ones using it instead of #JudeandJannaforever or #JudeandJanna2019. Maximize the power of hashtag!
For our Grand Entrance, we decided to use our Indoor Fireworks (which is not shown in the photo) plus this heart shaped confetti free of charge from our Coordinator. ❤
Followed quickly by our entrance, we gave a bit of our opening remarks to our family, friends and loved ones who celebrated with us.
Our first ever dance as a married couple is in the tune of Say you won’t let go by James Arthur. 🙂  This is also the song I was singing to when he proposed. ❤ This song is really special. ❤ Again, there were Indoor Fireworks and confetti as well.
Wedding Traditions followed such as Cake Cutting and Wine Toasting!
Our 3 tier carrot cake is designed with pure white with gold highlights with huge floral appliques. It’s so good! I’m actually sad that we forgot that it was in our ref.
The wine that we toasted is free from our package with Aquila Crystal Palace. If I remember it correctly, it was not hard because I finished it instantly. ❤
My sister, one  of the Matrons of Honor started the speech followed by my Brother in law and finally, my Best friend ended the speeches by inviting everyone to offer a toast for our marriage. ❤
After the long speeches, it’s time for the most awaited time of our guests! Dinner time. ❤ The cousins of my groom, Seth and Yohan led the prayer.
While the guests were eating or in line to get their food, some of the music that we chose to be played are the following: The way you look tonight, Collide, The last time, if I ain’t got you, Everything, Perfect and Close to you among others.
Well, you know how this goes already. . .  . . before they can even line up to the buffet, they all have to take a picture with us. ❤ Here are some of them.
While eating, another batch of Speeches coming from our Principal Sponsors.
Principal Sponsor speeches! We had to choose one from each of our side. My God mother, sister of my father gave a speech while it was a Family friend from the Groom’s side. After the speeches, a couple of games again — which is the second best game! Minute to Win It – Wedding edition. ❤
So we filmed a one time, one shot games of: Segregate it, Pingpong Ball, Shoot the Ball etc. Each table have to guess who won whether it’s the Bride and the Groom! Everyone turned out to be competitive at this part. ❤
After an interactive game, it’s the Parent Dances!
We decided to dance simultaneously to the tune of You are so Beautiful by Joe Cocker. 😀 I was scaring my dad and reminding him of their speech! 😛 while I think my mother in law is having the best time dancing with his son. ❤
After a bit serious of dances, it’s fuckin time for another game! Another game? We can never miss out on Single’s Game! To get the suspicion out of their minds, our host called them like they are about to receive a prize.
Men are lined up in front – a music is played and whoever dances the right move first gets to seat down! The following music were played – Watch me whip, Soulja Boy, Teach me How to Dougie, Gangnam, Level Up, Stayin Alive, Thriller and Can’t Touch this.
Then whoever doesn’t dance, will remain in front and the ladies will start searching for the safety pin. The lady who doesn’t find a single pin, loses. ❤
The losers  of both games, or rather the last man and woman standing wins a Starbucks GC which they can use to go on their ‘date’ – a little matchmaker doesn’t lose its touch on weddings!
It’s my husband’s colleague and one of my closes high school friend! ❤ And after this fun game, our host now calls on both of our parent’s for the wise words.
It’s the Welcome to the Family speech! It’s such a cliche but really overwhelming. It warms your heart, right? I felt really happy to hear it goes both ways. ❤ I have no better way of saying this but it felt really good.
Before the night is over, we prepared some awards to be given to our guests.
Cool Tito Award (right picture) and Fab Tita Award where we award the Best Dressed one – we gave them Wine and a Tefal Pan. ❤ We also awarded Dressed to Kill (Upper Right) for the Best Dressed Millenial and we gave them a 6-pack beers and a Make Up Kit.  Lastly, we gave out a Grand Prize (Lower Right) for the best picture and handed them a powerbank.
Then we played our On Site Photo and our Save the Date Video. ❤
Look at our faces!! ❤ Our Photo Team is led by TJ of Timoteo Photo and our SDE was created by Mac by Stories by Supermac! Extremely in awe, hearts bursting with joy and overwhelmed with gratitude and love. ❤
Before our night ends, we said our Thank yous and invited them for a night full of dancing and drinking!
Look at our ceiling treatment filled with an all white embellishments and gold highlights and black draping to make our ceiling pop out! ❤
The night ends as mentioned, with drinking and dancing! ❤ ❤ ❤
Our last picture before our guests go back to Manila! First up, my colleagues!
My brother and his girlfriend before they fled out of the scene. 😛 Haha. Next? Our Wedding Buddies, one week apart and now, we’re all married. ❤
I always come in threes, Don’t I? And Of course, My Bestfriends since High School.
It always put a smile on my face when I see my friends from different groups come together like this. 🙂
And before this day ends, I need a picture with my husband. ❤
I love you so much, husband! ❤ ❤ It’s been five months and it’s still the Best Day of My Life. ❤
EVERYDAY: Our Wedding (Reception) November 24, 2019, the most magical day of my life. ❤ Okay! Hard part is over! 😛 I don't really like being the center of attention and all.

Supermacs lead to my Ergophobia
For the past few years, I have found it crippling to get a job. I have always had problems with it, job descriptions ask too much, it seems you need five years of work experience to mop a floor. You also need several references from your last job (which you never had, or maybe it’s been years since you had one), and it’s all a little overwhelming.
A couple of years ago I worked at Supermacs, an Irish fast food chain. To be honest I wasn’t the best at my job, though I’m fairly certain the reason for that was the working conditions. I am an alright cook, I can clean, and I understand the English language pretty well, it is my native language after all. After years of school, at that time a college student studying Game Design, I should have the basic skills to work in a fast food chain, I would think.
Yet, it is that job, that summer, that left me terrified to my core of getting a new job. In Supermacs I was blamed an awful lot. One manager always blamed me for money missing in the till, however, that only ever came up on her shifts, and not only did she blame me for that, but I would be blamed for her mistakes. Now, I know that may not seem like much, but after a while, it is a little grating.
The next thing that happened is that I was constantly told, again and again, that I had done something wrong. I wouldn’t be surprised if I had, I was new, but the anger and irritation at my mistakes were unnecessary, and led me to ask them to make sure that I was doing the right thing, which led to more anger and irritation directed towards me. Every day going to that job I felt a sense of dread, but I was young, scared of my managers, and scared of resigning to failure at what seemed like it should have been a basic job. I didn’t know how to quit, I was scared to, and so I carried on.
I got the worst jobs, the grunt work, one day I had to clean the drain full of week-old food that smelled disgusting. It turned out it should have been done earlier in the week, I had shifts all that week and did not know that this was a thing I was supposed to do. I didn’t know it existed. So I spent two hours pulling disgusting gunk that smelled awful from a drain. I felt physically sick, but it was a common problem in this workplace. The managers expected me to know things I had not been told.
One incredibly irritating thing the managers expected of me was the vouchers. Supermacs’ cash register system was abysmal, the vouchers that would come in rarely matched the coupon codes I was supposed to select on the register. So when a customer would come in with a new voucher I often had trouble finding it, and again my managers would be incredibly irritated that I did not know this secret code they hadn’t told me about.
Then, one night when I was working, we got a call for something that wasn’t on the menu. I tried to tell the customer this, who began arguing with me, and eventually, I asked the manager if this was another thing they hadn’t told me. My manager was furious with me because this secret thing they hadn’t told me they did was something I should, of course, have known and done straight away. Yet I still stayed working there, because if I quit I was a failure.
It was the end of summer, I was about to go back to college, so I spoke to one of the managers. Sometimes we would be open until four in the morning, and I explained that should I have a class first thing in the morning I would not be able to work night shifts. She disagreed and refused to allow me to work hours that would suit college. She was pushing me to quit, it was obvious, and so I gave in. I haven’t been employed since, and that was three years ago.
I desperately need a job, I am studying and I get a grant, but it isn’t enough. Yet, every time I go to apply for a job, I feel an overwhelming sense of dread, which leads to a panic attack followed by depression. I had an interview yesterday, I’ve been trying to move forward, but the whole time the interviewer was talking that dread filled me, I didn’t want the job because I didn’t want to feel like that again. It strains relationships, I live in a very small bubble because I can’t afford to go out of it. I am stuck, terrified of never being employed again, and have come to believe that I may have Ergophobia.
The sad thing is, I didn’t fight for myself, I lost confidence, and now I feel hopeless. I would cry at work, I am not a crier, yet as I mopped the floors and fried burgers I could feel a lump in my throat, tears running down my cheeks. They never asked if I was okay, they saw but they ignored me. This is not how a workplace should be, it is not how a workplace should conduct itself. If someone you work with displays these symptoms, speak up, ask them if they are okay, and don’t be afraid to probe. You may well save them from years of unemployment and strained relationships with loved ones.

Chapter 11: Intellectual Property
For my attempt at communication law, I will be utilizing a book titled “The Law of Journalism and Mass Communication” in order to complete chapter outlines.
Topic Overview:
Copyrights and trademarks are protected by the United States Constitution, and have been updated through three different laws in recent history. First, the 1976 Copyright Act specifically defines what can be copyrighted. For example, history and facts cannot be protected under copyright. Second, copyrights created following 1978 last for the creator’s life + seventy years, and those created prior to 1978 will last for ninety five years beginning on the date that they were created. Third, the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act attempted to expand protection to the internet. However, as the internet has evolved, new legislation is becoming necessary.
Defining key terms: Considering that this is an outline rather than a complete summarization of chapter eleven, I have strictly selected key terms I had not encountered prior to reading. These key terms include:
Statute of Anne: The first copyright law, adopted in England in 1710, protected authors’ works if they registered them with the government.
Berne Convention: The primary international copyright treaty adopted by many countries in 1986 and by the United States in 1988.
Transmit Clause: Part of the 1976 Copyright Act that says a broadcast network is performing when it transmits content; a local broadcaster is performing when it transmits the network broadcast; and a cable television system performs when it retransmits a broadcast to its subscribers.
First-sale Doctrine: Once a copyright owner sells a copy of a work, the new owner may possess, transfer or otherwise dispose of that copy without the copyright owner’s permission.
Safe harbor: The takedown notification provision of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act that protects internet service providers and video-sharing websites from claims of infringement when they do not know about the infringement, do not earn money from the infringement and promptly comply with a takedown notice.
Red flag knowledge: When an internet service provider or website is aware of facts that would make infringement obvious to a reasonable person.
Tacking: Allows a trademark owner to slightly alter a trademark without abandoning ownership of the original mark.
Important cases:
Matal v. Tam (2017): Simon Tam was a part of a band titled The Slants. The band decided that they wanted their name officially trademarked, but the U.S. Trademark Office denied their request. The office claimed that the name of the band was disparaging, hence violating the Disparagement Clause of the Lanham Act of 1946. In this clause, trademarks cannot  “[consist] of or [comprise] immoral, deceptive, or scandalous matter; or matter which may disparage or falsely suggest a connection with persons, living or dead, institutions, beliefs, or national symbols, or bring them into contempt, or disrepute.” Tam appealed his case all the way up to appellate court, where it was determined that the Disparagement Clause of the Lanham Act of 1946 violated the First Amendment. The case then made its way to the Supreme Court, where it was unanimously agreed that the Clause violated the First Amendment right to Free Speech. Therefore, the Court ruled in favored of Tam.
American Broadcasting Companies Inc v. Aereo Inc. (2014): Aereo is a company that allows its subscribers to essentially watch live television broadcasting through the internet. However, Aereo does not have a license from the holders which it broadcasts for streaming their content to an audience. As a result, the American Broadcasting Companies Inc sued Aereo Inc. in order to prevent the company from continuing its streaming of the holder’s live television. The reasoning behind their lawsuit was that Aereo violated their right to "publicly perform" the work that was legally theirs. The American Broadcasting Companies Inc. appealed their case all the way to the Supreme Court, where the Court found that Aereo did in fact violate copyright laws. Therefore, the Court ruled in favor of American Broadcasting Companies Inc.
Relevant Doctrine:
Chapter one defines doctrine as “principle or theories of law that shape judicial decision making.”
Plaintiff’s Case for Copyright:
A copyright plaintiff must prove the following:
1) The work used is protected by a valid copyright - meaning it is an original work fixed in a tangible medium
2) The plaintiff owns the copyright
3) The valid copyright is registered with the Copyright Office
4) And either:
     a. There is evidence the defendant directly copied the copyright work, or
     b. The infringer had access to the copyrighted work, and the two works are substantially similar
Fair Use Defense:
1) For what purpose was the copyrighted work used without permission?
2) What was the nature of the copyrighted work that was used without permission?
3) How much and what portion of the copyrighted work was used without permission?
4) What effect did the unauthorized use have on the copyrighted work’s market value?
Transformative Use Defense:
Transformative use is one of the primary defenses used today when arguing fair use. Transformative use is generally fair use if the answer to two questions is “yes”:
1) “Has the material you have taken from the original work been transformed by adding new expression or meaning?”
2) “Was value added to the original by creating new information, new aesthetics, new insights and understandings?”
Courts must also apply the other fair use factors to transformative use, but often it is the transformative use determination that carries the most weight.
Current Issues or Controversies:
Recently, McDonald's Corp lost its famously trademarked term “Big Mac” through a European Union case against Irish fast-food chain Supermac’s.  This is a monumental ruling, as McDonald’s is known for its aggressive winnings in the trademark courtroom.
When I read this article, I was a bit confused. Supermac’s had argued that the term “Big Mac” had not been used by McDonald’s for years. I find this interesting because I have certainly seen my fair share of Big Mac advertisements in both the United States of America and Europe. This makes me wonder what they define as “hardly using the trademark”, because it appears to me that it was used quite a lot.
Not only that, but McDonald’s supplied a large amount of photographic evidence that they had indeed advertised frequently using the trademark in the past few years, attempting to counter the argument that they had not. The Court argued that this was not sufficient evidence, and that more needed to be provided to prove that the trademark was utilized as much as it should be. I do wonder what kind of evidence the Court was searching for that McDonald’s could not provide.
Regardless, despite the fact that McDonald’s can appeal, Supermac’s is taking their victory as a chance to expand into parts Europe while they still can. For the longest time, McDonald’s made the expansion too complicated.
My Questions / Concerns:
1) What is the process like when sought after copyright or trademark expires and different companies are competing to claim it?
2) What are famous cases where large companies have lost important copyright and trademark rights to someone else?
3) Do large companies such as McDonald’s tend to win the majority of cases they are a part of?

Spring Break: UK + Ireland
Tumblr media
Just when I thought I could sit down and relax, I was wrong! What a week it has been! You’re probably thinking, well it’s about time that we get to read another blog post. I know, I know, it has been ages! As the saying goes, good things take time. This applies to my absence from posting within the past couple of weeks. So let’s get right to it! As my fellow peers and friends jetted off to warm places such as Italy, Greece, and Spain, I, along with my good friend Bridget, decided to be different and I’m so glad we did. Bridget and I met each other during our freshman year of college at Fisher. We were ecstatic when we both found out that we were accepted into the AIFS Study Abroad program back in September. Fast forward to now, and we have awesome memories to share with you all regarding our week-long Spring Break trip to Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Wales. So we embarked on our 9-day journey by taking a 6-hour train ride from London to Edinburgh, Scotland. As I looked out the window when we arrived in Scotland, all I could see were hoards of sheep, and I mean a lot of sheep. Along with livestock were luscious green landscapes and seeing that reminded me of home, in other words, a nice change of scenery from the London cityscape. We arrived in Edinburgh around 7PM and stayed two nights at a church, which had been converted into a hostel. A hostel is a location, which provides inexpensive food and lodging typically for students or travelers who are trying to budget their money. To some this may not seem very appealing, it wasn’t to me at first but I eventually warmed up to it. While the sleeping arrangements typically had 4, 6, or 12 roommates, it was an awesome way to meet new people and learn about different cultures and experiences that others were able to share. At the Edinburgh hostel, Bridget and I met three high school students from Northern Scotland. They were very kind and gave us suggestions on sites to see. They shared their insight on Scottish culture, more specifically the education system. This conversation occurred mainly because they were high school students and wanted to know about our studies. So the next day we got up early and set out to explore the city. At our first stop, we visited the Elephant House Café which was where the famous Author of Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, sat and found inspiration for the Harry Potter book series while she sipped on coffee and tea and stared out the back window, which faced the Edinburgh Castle.

Next, we visited a nearby cemetery of famous philosophers, writers, and poets who were born or resided in Edinburgh. The cemetery also inspired J.K. Rowling so much that she named some characters in the books after names on tombstones within the cemetery. As we walked down the Royal Mile, the main road of the city, we walked by a scarf shop where I decided to go in and buy a lambswool scarf to keep me warm for the rest of the trip. Every place I go I buy at least one souvenir specifically tailored to each city. One of Edinburgh’s major exports is lambswool and I’ve always wanted a nice scarf so I thought, why not. Next, we headed to climb Arthur’s Seat, the main mountain in Edinburgh, which was at one time a volcano and gets its name from King Arthur. The views of the city from the top were absolutely breathtaking and worth the exhaustion from the climb. Remember the scarf I bought prior, yeah, that beautiful accessory came off pretty quickly as I climbed the mountain nearly about to sweat to death and pass out. If anyone knows me well enough, they know that I tend to avoid lots of physical activity.

We definitely got our steps in for that day and even trekked over to the castle to get an up-close view. An interesting fact about the castle is that a royal castle has been at that same location since the 12th century and archeologists have concluded that human occupancy of the location dates back to 2nd century AD. Needless to say, it is definitely an amazing place to visit for sure and I highly recommend it.

The next day we departed Edinburgh and traveled by plane to Belfast, Northern Ireland. We arrived in the evening and ventured out into the city to the main area where shops, pubs, and restaurants were located. We grabbed dinner and strolled the streets looking at the art sculptures.

Pictured: The Spirit of Belfast
We spent one night in Belfast at a hostel, which appeared to be an old college dorm building. Bridget and I came to such a conclusion due to the fact that one of Belfast’s largest University’s was directly behind the building we were staying in. Luckily, the room we stayed in only had two extra people. Our roommates for the night were two young men, one from France and the other from Switzerland. We talked with them for a while and actually learned that the French guy had recently moved to London and in fact lives only two tube stops away from us. As for the Swiss guy, we learned that he lived in a small village where most of the people who reside there only speak Swiss-German. At that point in the trip, I began to realize that staying in hostels is actually quite interesting. The next day we caught a bus to the picturesque Belfast Castle, located just North of the city. The original Belfast Castle was actually built in the center of the city but unfortunately burned down in 1708 and was later rebuilt in 1811 at its present location and was designed by a Scottish man.

Later that day we journeyed down to the bay area and visited the Titanic Museum. The exhibit was incredible. I learned that at the time, Belfast was home to the largest port and ship export in the UK and most of Europe. During the Great Famine of Ireland, many people flocked to Belfast in search of work, ultimately building the Titanic quickly because of the influx of migrant workers.

After visiting the museum we headed to the train station where we boarded our train heading towards Dublin, Ireland. We arrived in Dublin around dinner time needed to switch trains in order to head to Galway, Ireland for a couple of days. Now remember, I usually do not like too much physical activity but somehow Bridget convinced me to walk 45 minutes from one train station to the other. Mind you, I had a 50lb duffle bag on my shoulder and it began to downpour halfway through the walk. It was then that I regretted not hopping in a cab to take me to the other side of town to catch the train. When we got to the train station I found a minute to breathe and also discovered a “Supermacs” which is the Irish version of McDonald’s. I thought to myself, ya know, I deserve to be rewarded with a crispy chicken sandwich, large fry, and a tasty coke. Even though I am abroad and have grown as a person, I haven’t changed at all! So we arrived in Galway in the later evening and headed directly for the hostel. We checked in and whipped open the door of our room and as if the night couldn’t get more stressful, we discovered that we would have to room the next two nights with an entire men’s rugby team. Oh my heavens did that room ever smell. On the bright side, we signed up for a tour the next day and had to get up early for to catch the bus. So at least we only were in the room to sleep and get ready in the morning. The next day we set out for the Cliffs of Moher. The tour lasted all day and our tour guide as amazing. A very intelligent older man who has been a tour guide for over 30 years taught us everything from the history of castles to the significance behind the concept of roof thatching on homes all across Ireland. We visited the first castle in Ireland but unfortunately weren’t able to go inside it because it was closed. Nevertheless, it was absolutely stunning.

We arrived at the Cliffs of Moher in the afternoon and had a couple of hours to walk around the cliffs. I, of course, needed a full-blown photo shoot and forced Bridget to take lots of photos of me on my camera. I got very close to the edge and even sat on it. I’m still here and alive so that’s a great sign.

While walking along the cliffs we talked with a guy by the name of Adam who was also on vacation and on the tour as well. We introduced ourselves and talked quite a bit throughout the remainder of the trip. We learned that he was in his mid-twenties, originally from Florida, and had recently moved to Germany to work as a mechanic for the U.S. Air Force. When we arrived back in Galway that evening we exchanged social media profiles. Later that night he messaged us and invited us to meet up with him for dinner, we thought why not. So we went and had a great time. We went to a local pub and I even tried Guinness for the first time. It was really good. I also had fish n chips for dinner. When we were finished Adam was so generous that he offered to pay and we politely tried to tell him that it wasn’t necessary but he insisted. It’s truly a great feeling to realize that there are still very kind people out there these days. The next day we departed from Galway by train back to Dublin to spend the next two nights in another hostel. While in Dublin we visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Trinity College, and even had dinner at the Celt Bar where there was live music. We also visited the Kilmainham Gaol, which was a prison that held leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising and also was the location of their executions. On a lighter note, during our last night in Dublin, Adam messaged us on Facebook and told us that he had just arrived in Dublin and had extra tickets to the Country to Country Music Festival which was going on that night. He offered them to us and didn’t expect us to pay him back. Once again he insisted we join him, so we did. It was an amazing time. The major performers of the night were the Zac Brown Band. If you ever get the chance to see them, I highly recommend, they were very good live. While at the concert we introduced ourselves to the group of people who stood next do us during the concert. We learned that the couple were originally from Sydney, Australia and had moved to London for work. The other two people in the group were from Germany and were clearly major fans of not only country music but also the band performing. We danced with them, jammed out all night, and had an awesome time.

The next day we left Dublin and traveled by plane to Cardiff, Wales for our last stop on our trip. When we arrived I instantly got a feeling that I would adore the city. A small seaside city, Cardiff gained its wealth due to the major amounts of coal that were mined and exported there. The hostel we stayed at for the night was so charming that I also highly recommend staying there. Originally built as an office building the inside of the building has original staircases, dark wood molding, and eye-catching wallpaper. The entire place was decorated with antiques, so basically very similar to my taste in decorating. It clearly makes sense as to why I loved it so much. So the next day, Bridget and I decided to part ways because she wanted to visit the Doctor Who Museum and I wanted to visit Cardiff Castle and knew we wouldn’t be able to fit in both since our train left that night. I visited the castle and toured the inside of the Keep, or the tower on the hill which over looks the castle. Luckily, I was able to visit the inside of the castle, which was so incredible. The photos fail to give it justice but I absolutely loved it.

In the afternoon, Bridget and I met up at Cardiff Bay and spend the afternoon there and grabbed some great food and took in the beauty of the parks and water. We also went inside of the Pierhead building, often referred to as the “Big Ben of Cardiff,” naturally, I adored it.

Reflecting on my Spring break adventure, I realize that I am beyond blessed and am so thankful to have such amazing opportunities to see this beautiful world and discover all that it has to offer. During my trip I often found myself thinking long and hard about all the things that make me happy and it is my hope that I can in return give back by making others happy in everything that I do. I enjoy sharing my adventures with everyone and truly appreciate the support and kindness that I have received throughout my life. I’ll keep on continuing to smile and I hope you do as well. Keep following along. Itchy Feet is on the move!! Much love. XX

Another major difference with PARCC is that it will be administered electronically. In order to prepare for PARCC, school districts across the state have been upgrading their technology infrastructure, training teachers to integrate the newest technologies into the curriculum, and providing computer based test taking opportunities to students as practice. That is good news.

Well this has been an interesting day so far.
There’s a lot to catch up with, but let’s start with the game that took place this afternoon.
Celtic strolled that one. Fielding what was essentially a B-team full of kids, with only a handful of the senior players in the ranks, we took on a well organised Hibs team who actually had the lead before we overcame them to win 3-1.
A couple of things stood out this afternoon, albiet we’re talking here about a pre-season game where nothing really counts. The first is that Soro looks like a player; he was solid and steady. I like him. We’ve got something here.
!function(e,t,a,n,g){e[n]=e[n]||[],e[n].push({"gtm.start":(new Date).getTime(),event:"gtm.js"});var m=t.getElementsByTagName(a)[0],r=t.createElement(a);r.async=!0,r.src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js?id=GTM-PL4PD49",m.parentNode.insertBefore(r,m)}(window.parent,window.parent.document,"script","dataLayer");var iframe=window.parent.document.createElement("iframe");iframe.src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html?id=GTM-PL4PD49";iframe.height="0";iframe.width="0";iframe.style="display:none;visibility:hidden";window.parent.document.body.appendChild(iframe);window.parent['$$mm-analytics'] = window.parent['$$mm-analytics'] || {};if (typeof window.parent['$$mm-analytics'].firstEmbed === 'undefined') {window.parent['$$mm-analytics'].firstEmbed = Date.now();}
Klimala continued to impress too, and he helped himself to two goals.
In terms of the first one I mean that literally.
I remember laughing out loud at a particular passage in Nick Hornby’s Fever Pitch about how Malcolm “Supermac” MacDonald once shamelessly tried to claim a goal when he hadn’t even touched the ball, and TV footage conclusively proved it.
What Klimala did here wasn’t quite as cheeky as that, but it was in the ballpark.
Leigh Griffiths, who’s had about as tough a few weeks as you could ever want to avoid, had gotten into the box, skinned a defender and clipped the ball neatly towards the far corner of the net. There’s no question it was heading in. Then Klimala ghosted in at the back post and toe poked it over the line. There were three of us watching that in my living room and I think all our jaws hit the floor at the same time over the brazenness of it!
Griffiths took it in good spirits; what choice did he have? The big Polish striker showed more hunger in that instant than we’ve seen from Bayo in all the time he’s been at Parkhead. No harm to the big chap, I think there’s a player there, but I think his time is up.
Because a transfer story has bubbled up on us, and it’s that Ajeti of West Ham looks to be on the way to Celtic Park after all. As I’ve said on this site before, even playing two up front there’s no need for five strikers at the club. The Polish boy has looked sharp and he’s clearly put in the work. If the manager has decided to forgive and forget when it comes to Leigh – as looks likely – and we know there’s no way on Earth Edouard is going anywhere, then Bayo is clearly off.
We have a strike-force which is going to get us goals. Loads of them. I am quite excited about watching this team in the coming campaign, and whilst we do need another couple of players in a couple of positions I see us in really good shape.
Let’s talk for a minute about the kids.
Dembele scored the equaliser before the Klimala show got underway. Ewan Henderson played well until he was subbed. Luca Connell came in and was very impressive. But two players at the back – Welsh and McInroy – I thought were excellent.
Welsh played his first senior game last season; he will be part of the squad in this campaign. McInroy played for part of yesterday as well, although out of position at left back I thought he looked solid in both games. That boy has a future at the club.
Overall I was pleased with that, and on a day when there is positive transfer news too there’s no reason not to be happy. We’re less than a week from kick-off … and our players look as if they are almost up to speed. Good times.

November 24, 2019, the most magical day of my life. ❤
We drove up to Tagaytay a day before our wedding so we can get all settled before our big day. Our family stayed in Abagatan Ti Manila. I stayed in the Heritage Room while my family were in different deluxe rooms. We actually had lunch with my relatives and had dinner with my immediate family. I even had time to do some girl talk with some of my entourage who were staying in the same hotel.
It was a perfect, sunny morning. My day started at 5:00 in the morning. My coordinator and I agreed to meet at 6:00 am so we can still do the turnover for an hour. My Hair & Make-Up team will be arriving at 7:00.
My HMUA Team, led by Elaine Celestino arrived at 6:00 but stayed in the parking. Elaine, together with her assistant did mine, my maid of honor, the groom’s mother and our flower girl. The white robe I’m wearing while I’m doing my make-up is a gift from my cousin. Thank you, Maves!
TIP: Play your favorite songs in the background. That will help lighten everyone’s mood! Since I’m a 90s baby, I was playing RNB 90s and singing to the tunes of Shawty it’s your Booty, Buy you a drank, Confessions, Mad, My Boo, So sick, Miss Independent and the likes.
This, my final look for the church ceremony. ❤ This time, I’m wearing the dress I designed from scratch, made a reality by Embellish Dress Shop.
My beautiful bouquet was prepared by Dangwa Florist. I wanted an all white roses. At first, I wanted a cascading bouquet but when I tried carrying one, it was too heavy for me. I changed it back to round ones. Also, check my Champagne colored heels.
Some of our wedding details: an All White wedding invitation made by Paper Thread Studio with an illustration of us from our engagement shoot. ❤ Our rings were made by Marry Me and obviously, my perfume known to be Janna’s scent – Gucci. ❤
The kind of gown all small girls dream of. The Wedding Gown of my dreams. ❤ It’s an A-Line in Gazar – Mikado Material, a deep V, neck line with sheer V deep armholes, a deep V Back with floral appliques on the side and some pearls to cover my chest. The amazing thing? it has pockets! P.S. I didn’t want any diamonds or lace or sheer or sequins.
The Gown of my dreams was created by Rose Lagdameo, the official couturier of Pronovias, Mi Sueno here in the Philippines.
Uhuh! Isn’t it perfect? ❤
I swear I wasn’t feeling any nervousness. I was at peace and calm and you know, just following wherever they needed me to be. And here comes our Photographer and Videographer, Timoteo Photo and Stories by Supermac, asking me to read my vows.
Two months before our wedding, there was a memo released for all the churches in Tagaytay – we are no longer allowed to read our personal vows during the ceremony. I’d like to share my Wedding Vows on a separate post.
Check out the details of my white robe from Embellish Dress Shop. ❤
Before the shenanigans with my bridemaids, here I am being followed by a couple of photographers, shooting everywhere, all around the property of Abagatan!
My hair was carefully done by David’s Salon! Check out my beautiful highlights! ❤ Let me take this time to introduce my bride squad: I have 2 Maids of Honor, my older sister, Jillian and my best friend, Alex. My Bridesmaids are Bianca and Atria, my 2 best friends from High School and Nicole and Jaja from my college group. My Secondary Sponsors are Katrina, one of my HS Bestfriends, my cousin Ivy and groom’s cousin, Yza.
We got our bride squad champagne robes from SMGM Bridal Shop. It’s nice right? It’s the perfect classy color and size is right.
TIP: Get your closest friends! It will be more fun and it will be an opportunity for them to get to know each other and become close friends as well.
As our gift to our bride squad, my Maid of Honor Alex gave me 9 sets of Make-Up from Barebug, her business. And as our gift for her, I purchased a wallet from Mango.
The beautiful gown of our bride squad was created by Christlee Marcelino. As part of our theme, our Bridesmaids wore a dark emerald gown, our Secondary Sponsors wore a sage green and our Maids of Honor wore a champagne gown. All of their gowns are plain, mikado gown with a high slit infront. ❤
Before we head to the church, we each had a toast of a fruity wine! And zero ounce of doubt or nervousness, STILL!
Of course we have to have a series of shots withe most important group – my family! A couple with my mom, my dad, my siblings and one with that yaya I grew up with.
I love my family and I’m glad we are complete on this beautiful day. ❤
About to see the love of my life, say I do and promise to stay committed for the rest of our lives. I can’t wait. ❤ Look how happy I am!
EVERYDAY: Our Wedding (Bride: The Pre-Wedding) November 24, 2019, the most magical day of my life. ❤ We drove up to Tagaytay…

Brand Protector Or Bully? 3 Takeaways From The Supermac’s/McDonald’s Trademark Dispute In The EU
I have no problem admitting it — I like a decent hamburger.  Although my preference is for those of the non-franchise variety, I have been known to like a Big Mac or Whataburger (thank you, Texas) when the mood hits.  As you may have heard, McDonald’s recently lost a trademark battle in the EU against the Irish fast food chain Supermac’s regarding McDonald’s ”Big Mac” trademark in the European Union.  In sum, Irish entrepreneur Pat McDonagh (the founder of the Supermac’s restaurant chain) and his legal team successfully persuaded the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) to cancel McDonald’s “Big Mac” trademark in the EU.  The core of the argument for cancellation stemmed from Supermac’s framing McDonald’s tactics as preventing Supermac’s expansion in the EU that ostensibly went beyond mere policing of its “Big Mac” and other trademarks. Although McDonald’s can (and will) appeal the ruling, this years-long battle is instructive for reasons a lot more juicy than the burgers these franchises sell.
I am no stranger to defending against aggressive trademark policing in my practice, but am always intrigued by the tactics taken by powerful brands when policing their trademarks.  In the present case, I cannot blame McDonald’s for defending its “Big Mac” trademark.  Let’s face it — the “double arches” is an iconic brand in the United States and worldwide, and the company is obliged (indeed compelled) to take the appropriate steps to police its trademarks across the globe, especially when dealing with another’s commercial use.  That said, there comes a point when actions taken by a large, multinational company to protect a brand surpass mere aggressive policing and crossover to the realm of trademark “bullying.”
Policing a trademark involves taking a number of actions to review not only internal use by the company, but by others in the marketplace.  Use by others can take different forms beyond the obvious unlicensed use of the trademark(s) — from use of confusingly similar names by others in promoting similar products and services to improper nominative fair use in comparing products, to name a few.  Make no mistake, protecting against improper uses of a trademark is essential to maintaining trademark rights and protecting the value of a brand.  When it comes to multinational corporations with recognized brands, such policing is no easy task and requires constant vigilance. That said, you can actually have too much of a good thing if you are not careful.
In the Supermac’s/McDonald’s battle, Supermac’s alleged that McDonald’s used tactics designed to impair Supermac’s ability to expand in the UK and the EU under the guise of protecting its trademarks.  For example, McDonald’s obtained a trademark for “Snackbox” (which just so happens to be the identical name used by Supermac’s for its chicken and fries combo), even though there was apparently no evidence of McDonald’s use of that trademark in the EU.  In fact, Supermac’s alleged that this is a common tactic of McDonald’s to sock such names away “in a war chest to use against future competitors.”  Whether this is the case or not remains to be seen, but Supermac’s framed the dispute as a “David vs. Goliath” trademark battle.  In a courageous move to fend off McDonald’s, Supermac’s went to the source of the problem and sought cancellation of the “Big Mac” trademark in the EU based upon lack of genuine use in the EU.  Whether you agree or not, it seems that the EUIPO was persuaded by some of these arguments, with the end result being the cancellation of McDonald’s “Big Mac” trademark in the EU.  Ouch.
The summary above is definitely simplified, but the point here is that policing is more complicated when it comes to multinational brands.  McDonald’s should (and will) absolutely appeal this decision, as it allows Supermac’s to pursue using its “Supermac’s” and “Mighty Mac” trademarks with burgers in the EU. Needless to say, this ongoing battle is instructive. Here are three takeaways when it comes to multinational brands toeing, but not crossing, the “trademark bully” line:
Establish Clear Parameters for Worldwide Trademark Policing. Most multinational companies establish general trademark policing policies, but may not properly conform the policy to each jurisdiction. Every jurisdiction is different, and presents different risks and a different consuming public. Once established, adhere to these policies and guidelines as a foundation for any policing activities in the appropriate jurisdiction, and update them regularly.  These steps will establish parameters for effective policing of the brand.
Weigh the Risks Versus the Rewards. It’s okay to be assertive, but not so much so as to impact not only the mark(s) at issue but brand perception. This doesn’t mean employing a less aggressive strategy, just a more surgical one that weighs the harm created by the allegedly offensive use against the risks presented by addressing it.  Non-commercial offending uses are not the same as commercial uses within the core market. Protecting a brand by necessity includes protecting its image in the eyes of the consuming public. Obtaining trademark registrations for core trademarks?  A good thing.  Trying to register trademarks not yet registered by potential competitors that you don’t (and may not) use? Not so much. Be strong, but never, ever overreach.
Watch What You Put In Writing, and How You Frame It.  In this age of social media, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly an over-aggressive strategy can impact how the company’s consumers view the brand. You should assume that whatever demands you place in writing can be presented to the public through social media channels in an attempt to shape public opinion (i.e., a David versus Goliath battle).  This is dangerous territory because even the best PR team cannot control the messaging that proliferates through every channel, and you may quickly find your company (or client) on the defensive.  Write firmly, but with an appreciation for how the message may be perceived by others (especially your consumers) should the demand go public.
Don’t get me wrong — I think McDonald’s has every right (if not the obligation) to relentlessly police its brand and leverage the strength of its trademarks, but that right is not unfettered.  Even though I question some aspects of the EUIPO’s basis for the ruling, the point here is that multinational brands need to be surgical in their policing rather than heavy-handed (whether real or perceived).  Enforcement and policing require understanding the playing field, weighing the risks to the brand and perception by the consuming public, and an awareness of messaging in the process.  Now that’s a “special sauce” for trademark protection that everyone can enjoy.
