Hogwarts Mystery MC Profile - Cato Reese (Updated)
Hi everyone! A lot of things prompted me to update my Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery MC’s character sheet.
Some creators have left the fandom or changed/scrapped their OCs since I published his profile last year. I’ve changed some things around for my MC too. Naturally, his character sheet deserves an update. I’ve improved the formatting of the paragraphs so they’re easier to read. Information on Cato’s interactions with Rakepick has been added too!

Mother - Reilly Reese (neé Catori)
Reilly was a pure-blood American witch who became an herbologist after graduating from Ilvermorny. She studied the application of magical herbs and fungi to the medical field. In 1967-68, she and Cato’s dad had a son named Alexander after marrying.
Seeking a more quiet and peaceful lifestyle to raise their children, the Reese family purchased a big house from an elderly couple in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria. They moved in during the year 1970. She gave birth to Cato on April 13, 1973. Alex was around five years old at the time.
She homeschooled her kids instead of sending them to a muggle primary school. Reilly didn’t believe it had any particular benefit for them. She was also worried about what would happen if her sons’ classmates found out that they had magical powers.
The boy’s mother retired from Herbology and opened a cafe-restaurant in the village of Grasmere. Her sons helped out at the restaurant to learn responsibility and life skills.
When Alex disappeared after his expulsion, Reilly required a lot of calming draught to cope with the bad news, and Cato remembers this really well, though he would only talk about within his circle of friends at Hogwarts.
Once he got back, she allowed him to turn Alex’s room into a guest room for friends to stay as the memories of him running away were too strong for her to bear and she wasn’t ready to be reminded of them.
Father - Wilfred “Freddie” Reese
He met Reilly Catori in the United States while he was still an auror. Freddie was on an assignment to assist MACUSA with curbing riots over the abolition of Wizard-Muggle segregation under Rappaport's Law in 1965.
He enjoyed his job but he longed to be able to settle down and spend more time raising his family. This became more imperative after the birth of his son Alexander. After recovering from a dangerous injury, he spent some time in the Improper Use of Magic Office.
In 1970, Freddie was offered a position as a legislator on the Wizengamot. He was highly recommended because of his sense of justice and work ethic. He accepted the position. In his first 10 years on the bench, he would aid in the prosecution of many Death Eaters, including Merula’s parents.
Freddie‘s parents lived in a seaside town in the southern region of England. Their house was close to the beach, and he played a lot together with his two sons whenever the family visited. Freddie played the piano as a hobby, and sometimes performed at his wife’s restaurant. He also taught Cato this skill.
Whenever it came to disagreements, he knew that unnecessary hitting or yelling never helped the situation. Freddie still stuck to his auror training even after he joined the Wizengamot. He would first try to listen and negotiate, and then step out for the night if the situation didn’t get better to let things calm down.
However when Alex was expelled from school and ended up disappearing, it was different. Reilly was in no mood to talk. She was desperate for calming draught. Freddie left the house to get ingredients to make more of the potion as his wife had used up the rest of the supply, but he never got back home that night.
It is unknown what he did while he was away, but he showed up again about a week later, though he was filthy and riddled with injuries. Young Cato was scared and worried that his daddy would end up getting hurt and that he would never see him again.
When he saw Freddie come back, Cato hugged him as tight as a little boy could. He was in tears and demanded to know where he went. The father couldn’t explain where he went or what he was doing, other than that according to him, his head was “really messed up.”
Reilly was about to yell at him for leaving her and Cato behind. She couldn’t be angry when saw him dirty and hurt. The remaining family joined together in a group hug.
They were ecstatic when Freddie came back from the market and showed Cato a sealed envelope from Hogwarts, which turned out to be his acceptance letter. He was called in from the patio behind the house to be informed of this news.
Before he left on the train to begin his first year, Freddie and Reilly promised to an anxious Cato they would take care of the home and business while he was gone.
Brother: Alexander “Alex” Reese
The bond between the Reese boys changed over time. Prior to Alex’s first year at Hogwarts, he was as close to Cato as a big brother could be. When free, they played on their parent’s somewhat spacious property. Sometimes they went exploring in the Lake District nearby.
Because of his fondness of beautiful sunsets, Cato can remember the evenings when he and Alex just laid down in the grass watching the sun dip below the horizon and wait for the stars. Their mum set up a curfew for them to return back to the farm before dark after catching them out one night.
As they got older, Alex grew strangely distant to Cato. They still visited the wilderness, but less often. They also spent less time out. Alex slowly drifted away and seemed distant to Cato.
Cato didn’t understand why his behavior was so weird. His parents were concerned too, as most days during the summer, Alex locked himself in his room to study or left to who knows where.
Alex, was the more impulsive and hotheaded boy. He developed an obsession with the Cursed Vaults at Hogwarts. The combined pressure from classes and the work that went into curse-breaking put a huge toll on his mental health.
Early into his sixth year, Alex was expelled from Hogwarts.
After Cato finished his seventh year of education, he and Alex’s late best friend Duncan Ashe encouraged him to start rebuilding his life.

Being sorted into Ravenclaw, Cato is intelligent and excels in most, if not all the core subjects at Hogwarts. He enjoys Transfiguration and Herbology the most. A hard-working and diligent boy, he dedicates himself to his studies a lot. Though he is prone to distractions if something else is on his mind and finds it hard to stay focused.
Out in the socializing department, he is rather quiet and introverted. Cato usually doesn’t approach people he doesn’t know well. If you come up to him, he’s friendly and happy to chat as long as the questions do not get too personal.
But beware, only approach him in a good mood though, cause if he’s overwhelmed, stressed out or trying to really concentrate for something like a test, Cato gets irritated and he doesn’t want to be forced to do something he ends up regretting, no?
He has a strong empathetic side. Forged by both how he was raised and having a distant relationship with his older brother that gradually deteriorated as the years passed, Cato is really close to relatives and friends he trusts.
If he notices something out of the ordinary, he’ll leave what he’s doing and try to investigate, though sometimes to his friends he’ll admit as a younger boy he used to do so more out of curiosity.
This is because while Cato tries his best to offer help if he sees someone in need, he used to struggle with it quite a bit, most of the time moving on while doubting if he could’ve actually ended up being helpful to them.
Especially through his first to third year of studies at Hogwarts, Cato is a rather shy boy, hence why he had trouble figuring out how to respond when he noticed a person that appeared to be in need of assistance.
He was also reluctant to take part in clubs or groups instead of running solo. In large crowds, it is easy for poor Cato to get overwhelmed, him feeling awkward and uneasy. He may be so tense that his face turns red and has a little bit of difficulty breathing. To feel better, he leaves and seeks solitude in order to calm down and let go of the tension.
Out in Quidditch though, Cato isn’t as bothered as much as he is in a big open field and flying on a broom, plus his friends and mates are out there to support him and cheer him on. The sport slowly helps him build his patience and tolerance of large crowds though he still has some reservations.
In front of his close friends and family, Cato enjoys physical affection. He loves giving and receiving hugs. He usually gives one when he feels soft, like when he is thanked by a friend or told something that makes him really happy. While touch-starved, he prefers to receive hugs from his close friends.
It took Cato some time to appreciate them because of his shyness and the pressure he faced from bullies in the early years. He was compared to his brother a lot. People either were afraid of him being a danger to the school or assumed he was “weird” like his brother to pick on him.
Training for quidditch and learning dueling helped him become stronger and gain confidence as he got older. Cato still kept his sweet and friendly, but shy demeanor. But he isn’t someone to be tousled with as he becomes strong, serious and brave when he or his friends feel threatened.
His tolerance for nonsense slowly faded away as he got older and by his seventh year he was weary of fighting R and cracking the Cursed Vaults. Cato was a bit paranoid as well as a result of R’s desperation and expecting the unexpected, though he didn’t express this much in public and kept it within his circle of friends.
Cato has a fondness for nature and he enjoys pointing out the wonderful things he sees if he is in a good mood. He also loves talking about his hobbies and his days as a kid before entering Hogwarts.
He finds family in his friends and appreciates them very much as he didn’t have many friends before his first year. Not just his older brother drifting away from him. Cato’s parents also kept him busy with homeschooling and helping in the restaurant to teach him responsibilities.
Cato may seem shy and not the type to be engaged for long periods of time. But with patience and dedication, he can end up one of the most loyal and trusted friends one can have.

Fashion: Simple, but Cato tends to wear clothes that match due to his mum. He prefers colors like mint green that are light, but not too bland or boring. Sometimes he wears a jean jacket that Penny got him as a birthday gift on cooler days. However Cato also developed a soft spot for the color purple. In the summer, he mostly wears shorts, being one for balancing practicality with style.

Cato first met Penny in his first year after he won against Merula in a duel, albeit an unsanctioned one. Running late on their way to their next class, Rowan dared Cato to race them to Charms, the one making it to the door first before the bell rang being the winner. He was catching up to Rowan when he tripped and fell in the corridor.
They stopped when they heard him fall and asked if they were okay, but was forced to leave and enter the classroom when the bell rang so as to not be late.
A pretty Hufflepuff girl had seen everything and approached Cato after his fall. She helped him up and returned his books to him. Although Cato was usually a shy boy, his recent victory instilled a little bit of confidence in him. The corridor was also empty except for him and the girl.
She introduced herself as Penny and told him how he was becoming famous for standing up to Merula’s tyranny. Used to living a quiet humble life and not having many friends, Cato was really doubtful. He stuttered as he tried to explain that he was just trying to help Ben.
Penny told him that she was impressed with his bravery and compassion too, even offering to introduce him to her friends in Hufflepuff. Cato reluctantly accepted, knowing inside that he was fed up with getting picked on. He appreciated that someone validated that he did the right thing after getting in trouble with Snape, losing house points as a consequence of the duel.
As young Cato was intimidated by the tall Potions Master who watched his apothecary like a crow, he was glad to have a friend that was skilled in potions. He and Penny became great friends. She helped him study potions and even feel less intimidated by Snape.
This friendship eventually developed into romantic feelings in their third year, when Penny helped Cato escape an overcrowded Three Broomsticks. She didn’t confess her feelings to him until after the summer.
They had their first kiss during the Celestial Ball in their fourth year. Tensions arose between them in their fifth year when Penny’s younger sister Beatrice was trapped in a portrait early in the term.
She, driven by stress and anxiety, desperately tried to find a way to communicate and free her sister, even brewing a calming draught when that didn’t work. Cato was disappointed in Penny. She knew as a potions expert that experimenting with NEWT-level potions recipes without instructions or supervision was very dangerous.
He understood that Bea in danger impaired Penny’s normal thought process. She became desperate to help her. Eventually Bea was freed after the Portrait Vault was defeated, but the trap had consequences affecting her into her second year.
Although Penny in her sixth year had to deal with a strained bond with Bea as a result of the trap’s effects on her mind and how it affected her relationship with friends and family, she shared her feelings with Cato that they were growing weary of having their lives gripped by drama and dated in secret.
They found comfort in finding secluded places around the castle and grounds where they could spend time in private and vent out grievances they had about the matters happening around the school without anyone listening in on them.
Cato and Penny agreed together their kids should not have to go through the hardships they had to face as children and later teens.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Cato and Penny moved into a flat in London. She trained as a potioneer while he took courses to become an Auror. The two soon were engaged and got married in 1995.
A year later, they joined the Order of the Phoenix to help their friends in the war against Voldemort and the Death Eater Menace, fighting in the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998. Following the war, Cato and Penny had two sons.
He eventually retired from Auror work in 2002 and became a healer at St. Mungo’s Hospital For Magical Maladies and Injuries. This was to provide a more stable life for his family. Penny as a potioneer also joined him and Chiara to work together with him at the hospital.

Merula Snyde
One of the bullies that targeted Cato in his first year, not just for his brother being expelled but how being a “shy Ravenclaw wimp who just can’t suck up the blame” made her think he was a pushover.
A rivalry boiled between him and Merula after he defeated her in an unsanctioned duel. She swore to never be defeated again, and trained harder, even reaching out to Diego to tutor her. Still, Cato continued to beat her in display of his prowess.
He practiced together with his friends while Merula, wanting to be the “most powerful witch at Hogwarts” did so mostly alone and sparred together with others less often. She tried to frame him for the theft of potion ingredients from Professor Snape’s office but underestimated his intelligence and ended up getting caught herself.
Eventually the rivalry died down after year three as Merula grew tired of always getting the same result no matter how hard she tried. For a change, she focused more on her studies and trying to make up with those she bullied, realizing that her attachment to her parents imprisoned in Azkaban was doing no good for her life.
As they matured, Merula and Cato ended up becoming good friends, both done with having their school lives being consumed by drama and letting go of their tolerance for nonsense shenanigans.
She even helped him study for his NEWTs in his seventh year since Cato was prone to becoming tired and falling asleep under the pressure to excel in his exams. He also ignored the senseless gossip and rumors that consumed the everyday conversations of most students.
Patricia Rakepick
Cato was first acquainted with Madam Rakepick in his fourth year. She was hired by Dumbledore to aid in the investigation of the Cursed Vaults. Under Ministry pressure, he sought her as a professional because of concerns of leaving it up to students to protect Hogwarts. The headmaster knew Cato and his friends were the only hope to keep the school safe from the curses. Although he could not risk losing his positions at Hogwarts, the Ministry, nor the International Confederation of Wizards.
He admired Rakepick’s talent and prestige as a world-class curse breaker. She also had a niffler named Sickleworth that Cato loved to play with. They bonded while her caretaker let him borrow him for a little while. They were both sad to say goodbye when Rakepick wanted Sickleworth back. Inside, he had a gut feeling that something was off about Rakepick. Snape shared this and gave him a Garroting Gas to use in case she validated his suspicions.
In his fifth year, the curse-breaker accepted a job offer as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. She was the best teacher that Cato ever had in the subject. He respected and looked up to her as one. Without the school or his friends’ knowledge, he was drafted by her as one of her apprentices to break into the Portrait Vault.
Cato’s opinion on Rakepick changed one day. He came across the Marauder’s Map and showed it to her out in the training grounds. They noticed a marker that was zipping suspiciously fast across the map. Cato was suspicious that she wanted to take the map from him. He swiped the map off the table and put it in his robe before the professor could grab it. He then drew his wand and confronted Rakepick, telling her he knew he was up to now good.
Instead of a duel, she responded his challege by asking him to meet her in her classroom after the lesson the next day. Rakepick intentionally destroyed Cato’s first wand as a threat to not further mess with her.
Inside the portrait vault, Cato was shocked when Rakepick abruptly cased the Cruciatus Curse on Merula. He knew she was suspicious but had no idea she could be this nasty.
Cato was the most infuriated he had been in his entire life. He shouted “You, destructive, selfish, two-timing monster!” He prepared to throw the Garroting Gas. “Rakepick, you’ll suffer eternal damnation for your disregard for human life!” He tossed the vial at Rakepick.
The explosion released Merula from the curse and incapacitated the rogue. She uttered to the group “Bloody hell! How could you snot-nosed brats do this to me? The rogue curse-breaker then confessed to manipulating and kidnapping Cato’s brother after he got kicked out of school. She told him that Alex was her slave in hunting for the vaults. Rakepick had used Cato’s brother to draw blame away from herself, hence why he got expelled. She turned to Cato and made him her apprentice in the hopes of recruiting him for R.
One of the reasons why Rakepick was forthcoming was that she was not entirely loyal to R. She, not content with her fame as a curse-breaker, joined them for her own motives of power and fortune. She didn’t say it, but she was also impressed at the abilities of Cato and his friends.
Later, he would suspect she also opened up in an attempt to discourage anyone from trying pursue her, knowing what she was capable of. The curse-breaker was good at impressions and boasting about her accomplishments. She then proclaimed “This is not over! R will succeed and you all will pay for this costly mistake!” before apparating out of the room.
Rakepick had escaped, but she was now known as a wanted person. Cato’s sixth year would be spent trying to keep up with his studies while trying to keep Hogwarts and his friends safe from her.
Eventually, she would be corned in the Sunken Vault. After a hard-fought, wicked duel, she was laying on the cold floor, exhausted and out of fight. Cato chose to leave her for Moody and his aurors to pick up. She deserved to face justice for her crimes.
Trivia
Cato loves to bake. He learned it when he helped out at his mother’s restaurant in their village. While at Hogwarts he sometimes honed his skills and made cookies for him and his friends to enjoy. He sometimes asked them to give him feedback on them so that the next batch would be better. During a food poison scare in his fifth year, Cato volunteered in the kitchens for a while and occasionally did so in his final two years to help escape stress and drama for a bit.
His favorite things to take pictures of are amazing sights in nature, mostly the sunset. One of Cato’s most prized possessions is a color photo of the sun setting over the castle that he got from Chiara as a gift for helping her clear up her anxieties about her being the monster attacking a student and going through her transformation phase when she gave all of her Wolfsbane to Lupin. Cato still had the photo after graduation and had it framed to preserve it.
To try to help with his socializing and overcome his anxieties, Cato frequently volunteered in the hospital wing. His time spent there also aided in building his empathy and compassion as a teen. The skills and experience gained also helped Cato when he was hired as a Healer at St. Mungo following his retirement in curse-breaking.
In Quidditch, Cato was a chaser for the Ravenclaw team. He went by the nickname “Wingbear” during games and while at practice.
He has some knowledge of the German language from his grandparents from his father’s side. They live in a small seaside town in Southern England. In the summers before he went to Hogwarts, Cato’s parents sometimes took him there to visit the beach for a few days. They stayed at the grandparent’s house, and that is how Cato learned some of the language. Sometimes he’d study it a little at Hogwarts when he was free too.
The Reese family lived in a spacious English Tudor style house atop a hill. It was named Mount Ridgetop by the previous owner. The family kept it when they moved in there out of gratitude. The house was built by Muggles for an elderly wizarding couple who lived successful lives in the United States. They sold it to the Reese family to pay for their upcoming funerals, later moving in with relatives where they would enjoy their final days.

Veruca Carlyn McQuaid is an Irish witch born into a pureblood family, and is the second child to Elroy and Wilhelmina McQuaid. She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1984-1991 and was sorted into the Slytherin House. She excelled in Defence Against the Dark Arts and Flying classes at school. After graduation, she becomes an Auror. Veruca later marries Diego Caplan. They have two daughters, Marisol and Carina, and a younger son, Ruairí. She continued to work as an Auror some time after the war before resigning and later became a ballet instructor.

Veruca was born late August in 1973 to Elroy and Wilhelmina McQuaid. She is a pure-blood witch and a member of the noble House of Mac Uáid. Veruca and her older brother Coby grew up in the Mac Uáid Manor in Kinsale, Ireland.
As a child, Veruca was a shy girl who always hid behind her parents or brother. Coby had taken Veruca to the nearby park where they met some of the neighborhood kids. Two of the kids that she spent time with were Carson Ivey and Merula Snyde. Veruca and Carson were quick to become close friends, while Merula took some time due to her attitude.
Since Veruca was an emotional child, she's had sudden outburst with accidental magic and was taught at home by family members such as Obsidian, Miksa, and Selma to prevent any mishaps within a muggle school. She eventually learned how to control her magic, and some basic level of reading and writing that she no longer needed private tutoring. Though her mother wanted to keep homeschooling her, Elroy's insistence that it will be good for Veruca to be around other kids especially since Carson would be with her, Wilhelmina eventually gave in and Veruca later went to public school.
Veruca showed a keen interest in quidditch from a young age. During one of the family reunions, her father Elroy took part in the quidditch competition. Veruca was on the sidelines watching her father play and nearly fell over the railing because she wanted to be with her dad. Elroy eventually taught Veruca how to fly a broom and play quidditch. Veruca enjoyed playing as a beater and learning how to do a bunch of tricks on the broom, most of which nearly gave her parents a heart attack.
During a camping trip, Veruca found a baby bat out of its nest with a broken wing. Wanting to help the small animal, Veruca brought the bat to her father and they both took care of it. At the time, since she was very young herself, Veruca had been calling the bat "Gambyt." The name eventually became "Gambat" with Elroy helping his daughter with her pronounciation. When Gambat was finally healed, Veruca tried to get him to go back to his nest but every time Veruca put him down Gambat would fly back into her hands and cling onto her. Seeing how Veruca and Gambat have formed a bond, Wilhelmina and Elroy let their daughter keep the bat.
When Coby went missing, Elroy and Wilhelmina tried not to let Veruca outside of the manor to avoid any publicity. Veruca was never really left alone, always accompanied by either her parents or one of the manor staff. Since she was still a kid, Elroy let her continue playing just in the yard. He even allowed Carson and Merula to come over so Veruca wouldn't be lonely. Carson was a good distraction for Veruca, both were making the best of the situation as best as kids can. However, with Merula, and how her parents were sent to Azkaban, had been very antagonistic towards the two. The two were confused that Merula would treat them horribly, insulting their families and even go as far to say Coby was dead.
Angered by Merula, Veruca pushed her to the ground and they started fighting. Wilhelmina and one of the maids came out to stop the girls from fighting, scolding them while checking them for any bruises. Merula ignored the maid tending to her, calling everyone there crazy before storming off, thus ending their friendship. Wilhelmina questioned the other two on what happened, Carson didn't know what to say. Veruca on the other hand was upset, and asked her mother if Coby really was dead before breaking down. Wilhelmina did her best to console her daughter.
After the fall out with Merula, Veruca had become more closed off and cautious towards people outside of her family. She's now more protective of the people she cares about and more observant towards those who try to get close to her. Carson continues to be by her side, being her closest friend and confidant. Veruca isn't too eager to make new friends, letting Carson be the more sociable one of the duo.

〕Personality〔
Veruca exhibits a cool and relaxed personality, usually sporting a neutral expression on her face. Her demeanor compliments this, being informal towards professors, prefects and fellow classmates. She occasionally can be quite irritable, moaning in annoyance or sighing in displeasure when it comes to anyone, or anything she dislikes. Her Irish accent comes out sometimes whenever she's irritated, it also comes out whenever she gets embarrassed.
Veruca can be mischievous and playful at times. When Rowan came up with the idea of having a pillow fight using the Depulso spell they learned in Charms, Veruca claimed it to be a stupid idea but later engaged in the activity the same night with her friend.
She apparently also loves cute things, as when she first saw the swarm of Puffskeins during Care of Magical Creatures and she was enamored by them, hugging a handful of them. She gets easily embarrassed if someone were to catch her in this state.
In spite of her outward calm, she is prone to react rather passionately about threats to those she deeply cares about. Veruca describes herself as someone who was always blaming herself, for all the harm that she's caused to those dear to her. Several examples are when Rowan was struck with ice from the Ice Vault, and when Ben casted Langlock on Charlie. She even places her friends over her own pride, going as far as to shed tears openly in the Great Hall for Rowan's memorial after witnessing her death at the hands of Rakepick.

Coby McQuaid
Veruca and Coby have sort of a “complicated” relationship. The two clearly care for each other, but with how both were raised differently due to Coby's disappearance, they have a bit of a competitive relationship that also caused them to engage in childish disputes that continued on into adulthood. Coby may be the oldest, but he can definitely be the most immature between the two, something Veruca often points out, causing Coby to whine about it. They can never play any game together as their competitiveness gets out of hand and someone ends up tackling the other to the ground.
Carson Ivey
Veruca's most trusted companion, and childhood friend. The two have known each other since they were 5.They both know almost everything about each other, including their deepest secrets. They have done everything together since childhood. The two also have their own special handshake they made up when they were kids, they still do it even into their adulthood. With Carson's intellect and Veruca's cunning the two make a formidable duo and can cause chaos if they so please. They both know when the other is feeling down about something and are quick to bring it up before the other tries to play it off as something else.
Rowan Khanna
Veruca’s closest friend, whom she confides in when she cannot tell Carson something. Veruca trusts Rowan so much, she was the only one who knew about Veruca’s crush on Diego. During the period that they attended Hogwarts, Rowan is revealed to be an exceptionally good roommate. Veruca mentions that Rowan has sweet little quirks, such as folding back the pages in text books of subjects she thinks Veruca would struggle on. She also leaves messages on the mirror when Veruca takes a shower and lets Veruca climb into her bed when she’s had a bad dream. Veruca grows very concerned when Rowan gets hurt during their ventures to the Vaults after she was struck with ice, and cries at her memorial in the Great Hall.
Chiara Lobosca
Chiara is another of Veruca’s closest friends. Veruca turns to Chiara when she needs more of a compassionate mindset over logical ones. Veruca cares about Chiara’s wellbeing and always makes sure to ask if she’s doing okay, she even takes the liberty to drag Chiara along with her, not wanting her to be alone. Veruca's fiercely protective over her, and wouldn't hesitate to get into a fight if someone tried to mess with Chiara. After the events that happened in Sixth Year, Chiara was the only one Veruca was able to go to for comfort when she was in such a vulnerable state, and in turn, Veruca would get enraged whenever something or someone tries to hurt Chiara.
Diego Caplan
Despite having classes together, Veruca and Diego only started hanging out after the former went to seek Diego out for extra dueling tips. Diego hits on Veruca, but much to the surprise of Rowan, knowing Veruca has always scared these kinds of people away, Diego receives positive results. Veruca even admits to liking when Diego calls her “Ruca.” After Diego helps her with her dueling skills, Veruca hints a liking or attraction to Diego to the point of admitting to Rowan that she had a crush on the Hufflepuff. Veruca’s attraction towards Diego is further evidenced when he starts hanging out with Carson and Jae. Elroy even notices how Veruca interacts with Diego during the summer and teased the two for how much they reminded him of his and Wilhelmina's relationship when they were young. Few years after Hogwarts, the two get married and have three children, and Veruca appears to be even more open about her feelings with Diego.
Jae Kim
Jae is Veruca’s detention buddy and fellow troublemaker. Both he and Veruca tend to roast each other in greeting. When Veruca is in a tight pinch with certain items and objects, Jae’s always there with the right stuff, usually offering them to her at a ‘small,’ discount. Jae is also the only one Veruca can act all smug and casual around as they both have a handful of similarities.
Skye Parkin
Veruca and Skye have a sort of competitive friendship. Having a brother herself, Veruca knows what it’s like being pressured by family to be the best they can be. They often get into minor disagreements when it comes to the way they study. Veruca even claims that Skye ripping out pages from a book is ‘a crime.’ When it comes to quidditch, the two work extra hard to win for their house, sometimes using that as a means to show off their skills. Despite playing different positions, Skye being a chaser and Veruca being a beater, they make a good team.
Tulip Karasu
Like with Jae, Veruca and Tulip roast each other in greeting. Veruca likes Tulip’s style of pranking, as it reminds her of Carson’s. Although they don’t hang out as much as Carson does with Tulip, the two can be good friends and work well together. Veruca can relate to Tulip in regards to “rules are made to be broken” as Veruca always often gets herself into trouble whether it’s intentional or not.
Merula Snyde
Once upon a time, the two were close childhood friends alongside Carson. However, after Merula’s parents were sent to Azkaban and Coby went missing, Merula went back against Veruca and severed ties with her. Veruca was heartbroken at the betrayal and eventually grew resentful of Merula. In Hogwarts, the two are always at odds against each other with Merula trying to ruin Veruca’s reputation even more. Near the end of their years at Hogwarts, Merula attempts at getting Veruca’s help yet the latter always sends her off on a goose chase.
Gambat
Like his owner, Gambat likes to coax mischief making. He’s been with Veruca since she was a child and the two can talk to each other as if they understand what the other is saying. He’s a very cheeky and smug bat, he also likes to insult or roast Veruca, especially when it comes to her questioning her feelings or actions towards something.
Elroy & Wilhelmina McQuaid
Veruca cares greatly for her parents. And while her mother was more on the strict side, Veruca knew her mother cared just as much for her. The fear of something happening to their daughter after Coby went missing was enough to cause Wil overbearing, Elroy was the one who usually had to calm and reassure her. On the other hand, Elroy adored Veruca. He always babied her when she was little, given in to her demands and wants. Elroy was the one who taught her how to fly a broom and introduced her to Quidditch. He was ecstatic when Veruca came home with her own Quidditch plaque.
Donagh & Nevaeh McQuaid
Veruca adores her grandparents, Nevaeh always spoiled her with so much affection. Donagh, despite his stoic mannerism, has shown such gentle care whenever it came to Veruca. He treated her the same way he treated his daughter. When Donagh passed, Veruca held herself in her room until Nevaeh came in to comfort her. Nevaeh always insisted that her grandchildren go out and do things without needing her approval. Her reason is "because she's old, what would an old woman's approval matter anyway!" Nevaeh also would sneak some candy to Veruca whenever her mother wasn't looking.
Naoise McQuaid
Grand Uncle Naoise was always a quiet and kind man. Like his brother Donagh, Naoise took gentle care over Veruca. Likewise with Veruca treating her uncle with care. The two have their own little tradition the same way Veruca has with every other family member. And that is storytelling. Whether it's Naoise recounting his past for Veruca, or Veruca telling her adventures with the vaults. Usually, Naoise is the one telling stories of his childhood since Veruca always wanted to know what her grandparents were like when they were young.
Áine Lavery
Aunt Áine and Veruca's relationship can best be described as awkward niece and rich wine aunt. Since Áine has no children, she has taken to spoil her brother's children. When Áine found Veruca's little collection of brooches and pins, Áine would always buy one from whatever country she's visiting and give it to her niece. Áine usually ignores the articles in the Daily Prophet, until she finds a few articles with her niece being shown in a horrible light. Outraged, she took a chimera drawn carriage to Hogwarts, demanding her niece to clean up her act as she is a lady and not a ruffian. Veruca spent the entire time her aunt was at Hogwarts trying to be a perfect lady while also stopping her aunt from fighting Skeeter.

〕Etymology〔
The name Veruca is derived from the Slavic name veruscha/verushka (meaning true, honest, faith) and means vivacious and strong willed.
The original Gaelic form of McQuaid was Mac Uaid, which means son of Wat. The surname McQuaid was first found in County Monaghan (Irish: Muineachán) located in the Northern part of the Republic of Ireland in the province of Ulster.
The Irish name Carlyn claims descent from the O’Connors in Donegal where “Carlan” (from the Irish “carla” meaning a “wool-comb” and “an” meaning “one who” which roughly translates as “one who combs wool”) was in Irish O’Carlain or O’Caireallain.

Brother: Sawyer Jacob Fitzgerald
Sawyer was born on October 23, 1967, making him a little over five years older than Huck. Upon starting Hogwarts, Sawyer was sorted into Hufflepuff and became involved in the Cursed Vaults. His involvement in the Vaults was driven by curiosity and viewing his uncle as a hero. Sawyer had never wanted to leave the Cursed Vaults for his younger brother, but he had found himself in over his head.
After he is released from the portrait vault, Sawyer goes on a bit of a crusade to finally put the Vaults to rest. Eventually, Sawyer goes on to receive a GED and becomes a cursebreaker. He gets married and has three children: Clara, Dylan, and Brett.
Huck and Sawyer have a very close bond. When he was a child, Huck had a bit of a hero worship towards his older brother. This dissipated the more time Huck spent at Hogwarts and it was completely destroyed when Sawyer refused to let Huck in after the portrait vault. Their relationship was strained for nearly a decade before they fixed it. However, that didn’t stop them from serving as best man in each other’s weddings.

Uncle: Martin Phillip Fitzgerald
Martin, sometimes known as Marty, was born on February 8, 1937 to Jacob and Eunice Fitzgerald. He was their first child and was joined three years later by a younger brother named Nick. Like his brother, Martin met his future wife when they were both in university. She was the only woman in his major and Martin was very awed by her. He married Eve Murray in 1968, three years after his younger brother married.
On September 3, 1970, Martin’s daughter, Vera was born. Martin adored his daughter and always tried to be there for her.
In 1978, Martin’s younger brother, Nick, and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth were killed in a drunk driving crash. Due to the fact that Martin’s parents were not up to taking care of two young boys, Martin and his wife, Eve, took in his two nephews, aged 11 and 5. Martin was heartbroken by his brother’s death and tried to do right by his nephews.
Huck has always admired his uncle. He may not have always been comfortable confiding in Martin, but Huck had always known he could count on his uncle. He also knows that his uncle has endless amounts of patience.

Aunt: Evelyn Thora “Eve” Fitzgerald née Murray
Eve was born on June 19, 1938 to Mick and Jane Murray. She was their fourth child, joining three older sisters. Eve refused to let people tell her what she could and couldn’t do. She partially started taking archeology courses to spite everyone who told her to pick a more appropriate career. She didn’t care and it turned out very well. She met her future husband, Martin, in one of their classes and he was one of her most ardent supporters.
Eve married Martin Fitzgerald in 1968. Three years later, on September 3, 1970, Eve’s first and only child, Vera Jane, was born. She adored her daughter and always tried to support her in everything.
In 1978, Eve’s brother-in-law, Nick, and his wife, Elizabeth, were killed in a drunk driving crash, leaving their two sons orphaned. Eve fully agreed with Martin that they would have custody of the boys, given that their grandparents weren’t in any position to adequately care for them.
Huck greatly admired his aunt and everything that she overcame. However, he doesn’t always feel comfortable confiding in her, even though he knows that she will always try to support him.

Vera was born on September 3, 1970 to Martin and Eve Fitzgerald, making her Huck’s older cousin by a little over two years. Vera’s childhood was mostly spent traveling the world with her archeologist mother and paleontologist father. She loved it and a passion for languages began to brew in her. She would eventually become a linguist, specializing in endangered, dead, and ancient languages.
Vera was eight when her cousins moved in with her and her parents. She wasn’t the biggest fan of it at first, but quickly grew to enjoy it as she always had a constant companion in Huck and Sawyer. Like her cousins, Vera attends a boarding school from the ages of 11 to 18. Her parents thought that would give her a more normal school experience.
Vera is like an older sister to Huck. He spent most of his childhood with her and he grew rather close with her. This closeness, unfortunately, doesn’t extend to adulthood as they both go in different directions and Huck goes silent during the second wizarding war. However, Huck and Vera do get along quite well.

Jacob Fitzgerald was born in 1900 and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1980. He suffered a fatal fall in 1983, two years after his beloved wife passed away.
Eunice Fitzgerald was born in 1902 and she suffered a fatal stroke in her sleep in 1981.
Maternal Grandparents: James and Mary O’Dowd
James O’Dowd was born in 1899 and he was living in an assisted living facility in 1979, which meant that he and Mary couldn’t take in their grandsons. James passed away in 1985.
Mary O’Dowd was born in 1903 and she was also living in an assisted living facility in 1979 alongside her husband, James. She passed away in 1985, six months after her husband.

Childhood:
Huckleberry James Fitzgerald was born on November 28, 1972 to Nick and Elizabeth Fitzgerald. He was their second child, joining elder brother, Sawyer. Huck was born without complications and the first five years and eight months of his life were fairly unremarkable. He had two parents who loved him and his brother dearly, an older brother he adored, and a very stable home life.
However, his entire life changed one July night in 1978. The Fitzgerald family had spent the day in Dublin and were driving home when a drunk driver hit their car. Nick and Elizabeth were killed instantly, while their two sons survived with moderate injuries that placed them in the hospital. Huck required dozens of stitches to close the wounds caused by glass and he would remain unconscious for two days. He had very little memory of what happened and he suffered a concussion.
Nick’s brother, Martin and his wife, Eve were granted custody of Huck and his brother. They moved into Martin and Eve’s townhouse, where they spent six months recovering from their injuries. Sawyer, of course, went to Hogwarts in September. The summer of 1979 was spent at one of his uncle’s dig sites in the western United States. Huck would spend the next five years traveling between Dublin and the different dig sites with his aunt and uncle.
In 1983, Huck and his family received a letter that said Sawyer had disappeared. Huck was flabbergasted and didn’t want to believe it, but when Sawyer didn’t return for the summer, Huck had no choice but to believe it. Then, on his eleventh birthday, Huck received his Hogwarts letter.
Hogwarts Years:
Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Huck was sorted into Hufflepuff. Rumors swirled around him, most focusing on his older brother and Sawyer’s mysterious expulsion and disappearance the previous year. Huck maintained that it didn’t sound like his brother and hated how people seemed to view him as his brother.
Thus, Huck started his own investigation into his brother’s disappearance, and led him to the Cursed Vaults. Most of his time at Hogwarts was split between classes, the Vaults, and quidditch as he joined the Hufflepuff team in his third year as a seeker. He also made a lot of friends.
Huck’s brother was found towards the end of his fifth year. However, Sawyer refused to come home with Huck and instead went off to clean up the rest of his mess. Given Sawyer’s insistence to handle the Vaults himself, the brothers began butting heads. Huck hated the way that his older brother still treated him like he was a little kid and a rift grew between the brothers that didn’t heal right away.
Adulthood:
After graduating from Hogwarts, Huck started an apprenticeship in healing. He didn’t love the profession, but he agreed to try it anyway. He did spend a lot of his free time studying other fields, trying to find a profession that he would enjoy more.
In 1995, the second wizarding war began. Huck kept his head down, refusing to get too deeply involved. He’d barely gotten through the Vaults at Hogwarts and wasn't ready to join something so intense yet. He worked in St. Mungo’s, and he was happy to help out his old school friends whenever they needed a little bit of healing.
After Dumbledore’s death, Huck left St. Mungo’s and went into hiding with Lyra. Unable to sit by and do nothing, Huck began accepting small missions with the Order of the Phoenix and other resistance groups. However, he never outright joined any of those organizations, knowing that he didn't need another target on his back. In February of 1998, Huck had a run-in with snatchers which led him to dye his hair a platinum blonde. He wanted to protect everyone he loved and decided to make himself look as unrecognizable as possible, even shocking Lyra when he returned home.
During the war, Huck married Lyra in a small ceremony with only their family and closest friends invited. It was held in secret, but they never hid the fact that they had married. Later in life, they had two children. Their son, Nicholas Mac “Nicky” Fitzgerald-Wilson was born on April 27, 2005, while their daughter, Ruby Elizabeth Fitzgerald-Wilson was born on July 1, 2007.
The remainder of Huck’s life was calm, stable and full of love. He quit healing in 2005 and became a stay-at-home dad for seven years. At the age of 40, in 2012, Huck was offered the position of ancient studies professor at Hogwarts, as they had decided to bring the subject back. Huck remained a professor for fifty years.
Old Age:
Huck retired at the age of 90 and spent the next 28 years following his passions as well as spoiling his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Death:
In 2090, Huck passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 118. He lived a long and fulfilled life and left behind two children, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and twelve great-great-grandchildren.

Trivia:
Huck is named after Mark Twain’s character, Huck Finn. His older brother, Sawyer, is named after the character Tom Sawyer. This is due to the fact that his parents first met in an American literature course and were ardent admirers of Mark Twain’s works. They also wanted rather unusual names for their sons.
Huck is also named after his maternal grandfather, James O’Dowd.
Huck hates being called “Huckleberry.” First of all, it’s a mouthful of a name. Secondly, it’s an odd name that always results in him getting funny looks. Of course, Huck is also an odd name. Thirdly, his late parents were the only ones who ever called him “Huckleberry.”
Huck was fascinated by dinosaurs when he was a child. He had all the dinosaur books his parents could find and he always had an endless stream of questions for Uncle Martin. Even as an adult, Huck finds them to be fascinating, keeping up to date on any new research that is found.
While he was interested in the Cursed Vaults, Huck never really wanted to be involved with them. His concern for his brother always usurped any true interest he had in them. He was never able to separate the Vaults from his brother’s disappearance either.
Huck rarely drinks alcohol to excess. He only gets drunk about five times in his lifetime. People know that they can count on Huck to be sober and the responsible one on group outings to pubs. He has a negative association with drunkness, as a drunk driver caused the accident that killed his parents.
Huck had visited (and temporarily lived in) many different countries. He’s been to the United States, Egypt, Mexico, Israel, Argentina, and Brazil. Of course, he grew up in Ireland, attended Hogwarts in Scotland, and spent a lot of time in England as well. He has also visited Australia, where Lyra spent some of her childhood.

Night @night-rhea on the other hand, is a tricky story. They and Vix hated each other until around third year. The two made up, then quickly became friends. During their Hogwarts years they were extremely close, and even closer when Vix fell for their brother. However, the Wizarding War brought an end to that...

BackStory
During this time the Crowen family's business is that of information, although they are spread across basically the entire globe, the main and most powerful family is in the UK.
Elizabeth's parents have a contract marriage, one of the conditions of this contract is to have an heir, no matter what sex.
The relationship with her parents is quite bad, her mother since she was born didn't even want to take care of her, she generally ignores her as if she didn't exist and when she doesn't ignore her she insults her for no reason.
Her father at least knows of her existence, but his response to anything that concerns Elizabeth is "Do what you want, just don't take the family business to the rubbish".
Basically the workers in the main house took care of her.
By the age of 5 she was fully capable of handling her mother's responsibilities as hostess of the house.
The titles "father" and "mother" are of no value to her and she only uses them as a formality.
She joined Hogwarts in first year, and has been friends with Aderyn ever since.
When Sebastian's sister happened, she tried to help her with the information she had, but it wasn't enough.
She is currently trying to find a way to help him.

Personality & Attitude
Callie is the quiet sort who prefers the company of books to people. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends and can often seem cold or even rude to people who don't know her, but she's quite friendly once you manage to break through her surface. Deep down, she feels very alone due to her parents being distant and being an only child. She struggles with creating meaningful connections but craves them deeply.
She responds best to speaking of common interests, like books or music. She's a little bit clueless about the Muggle world and finds learning about Muggle culture fascinating. Callie is creative and sometimes scribbles poetry in the margins of her essays or in little notebooks. She doesn't have ambitions to become a poet as a fulltime job, though.

Callie and Talbott have been house mates since year one, but they only really started to speak during year 4, when Callie got her pet owl Orpheus and started to spend time in the Owlery. They both enjoy a comfortable silence and the quiet comfort of each others' company.
The two started dating during year 6. They were together until graduation, after which they broke up for a while but reconnected during the Second Wizarding War. They married and have one daughter together.

kat is cursed! which is why her ears are pointy like that, and you can't see it right now but her teeth are as well. after year five, her nails are sharp, and she wears gloves.
if she does not take curse suppressants in the form of prescribed pills every morning and night, she has a high chance of turning into a horrible beast within the next two hours.
her red oak wand sprouts small pink red oak flowers when she's feeling happy when casting a spell! they don't hinder anything they're just a natural byproduct of her emotions when spell casting

kat is also autistic! she's low-support/high-functional.
pertaining to the last point, kat is also low empathy, but has high compassion. she can't really relate to anyone's emotions and often can't understand why they're feeling that way when she can think of a very logical reason to not feel that way (ex. it's just a photo / you can get it remade later / etc.). however she does really want to help them feel better! even though she doesn't quite know how to really listen to someone's problems, she will always try to offer any solutions that she can think of to make them feel better.
"dislikes: animals" is more of a phobia than anything, and also not what they could do to her, but of what she could do to it. something happened with one because of her curse when she was little, and now she's scared about getting close to one. things with fur tend to be the worst for her and she has a very hard time even being near them.

Child: As a child, Kathryn grew up in a small cottage in the beautiful town of Castle Combe. Her brother was a few years older and together they ran through the streets and played in the trees. They also loved to play in the river and under the bridges. He would teach her about many things as she was constantly curious about the world. Jasper would tell her stories and she idolized him. Near the end of the first Wizarding war when Kath was 9, their father John was killed by an injured Death Eater that was mistakenly taken to the Muggle hospital he worked at.
Teenage: After their fathers death, the two of them started to drift apart. Jasper became fascinated with time and started to distance himself from his family as he spent all his time working. He was very brilliant and ambitious. Eventually, at the age of 15, he managed to create a time turner that didn’t have the restrictions. It allowed him to go back in time as far back as he wanted and stay as long as he wanted. He went with his friend and they attempted to kill Lord Voldemort before the war started. His friend Duncan was killed and the time turner was shattered in the fight. Jasper escaped and was stranded in 1970. He couldn’t return home as he was just born. Kath spent her teenage years at Hogwarts devastated at her brothers disappearance and constantly sought the night sky for answers.
Adulthood: After Hogwarts, she started a job at the Ministry as a Seer for the Hall of Prophecies. She would record anything she saw in the stars into crystal balls. At long last, she eventually reconnected with her brother Jasper, now 15 years older than he should be. He was now 17 years older than his sister, instead of 2 years like normal.

Seán was born in Donegal Town, Ireland on June 30, 1936 to Lorcan and Rose O’Donnell. He was their only child and was raised Catholic. His family had always had a more liberal approach to Catholicism, though. Seán had a good childhood that was lively and full of joy. He had a close knit group of friends and his family was well off.
After unexpectedly receiving his Hogwarts letter on his eleventh birthday, Seán was sorted into Ravenclaw. He enjoyed his time at Hogwarts, joining the quidditch team and making a network of friends. His future wife was amongst that group. Seán was a fairly popular and handsome young man, who attracted attention everywhere he went.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Seán began to pursue a career as an auror. He was successful and raised quickly through the ranks. However, he only did field work for ten years, switching to desk work when his eldest son was born in 1965. He retired from the ministry and auror office in January of 1975 after the death of his wife a few months prior. Shortly after, Albus Dumbledore offered Seán a position teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts for the 1975-1976 school year. Seán spent a long time deliberating before he agreed to the position, as long as Dumbledore would honor the terms and conditions Seán laid out. Seán retired after that one year, citing a desire to spend more time with his children.
In 1959, Seán ran into Ailis Lynch. Literally. He spilled his coffee over the both of them and something they began rekindling their friendship, which eventually turned to romance. On Ailis’s twenty-fourth birthday, Seán asked Ailis out to dinner for their first date. They would date for approximately two years before getting married on May 29, 1962.
Their first years of marriage were tough, as both faced losses, including the death of Seán’s auror partner. However, it was filled with lots of love and patience. Three years into their marriage, their eldest son, Cian Jacob was born on January 18, 1965. Eight years and three miscarriages later, Seán’s youngest children, Ryan Michael, Cara Rose, Sara Ailis, and Conor Lorcan were born on August 18, 1973.
The first year with the quadruplets went quite smoothly, but everything changed in July of 1974. His wife became incredibly ill and no one was ever able to diagnose her. Seán became a widower and single father on August 2, 1974. He would never remove his wedding band.
In April of 1978, Seán was killed in an automobile wreck. It was wet and dark and something just went wrong. He was killed upon impact and his death was a significant blow to the family.
Ryan loved his father dearly, but unfortunately doesn’t have many clear memories of the man. The smell of pine soap reminds Ryan of his father, though, as that’s the type of soap that Seán used. Sometimes, Ryan even buys that specific soap scent because of his father.
Faceclaim: Pierce Brosnan (1980s)
Mother: Ailis Ciara O’Donnell née Lynch [deceased, 1936-1974]
Ailis was born in Dublin, Ireland in March 24, 1936 to Conor and Ciara Lynch. She joined older brother, Doyle who was ten. She had a happy childhood that was full of love. Due to their age gap, her older brother was rarely around and she was shielded from some of her parents’ concerns about him. She’d share those concerns later in life, but never noticed it prior to starting Hogwarts.
Upon starting Hogwarts, Ailis was sorted into Ravenclaw. She enjoyed her time at Hogwarts. She became a prefect and made a group of good friends. It wasn’t as extensive a network as her husband or youngest four children made, but they were still close friends. She also became good friends with her future husband, although she never would have called him a close friend and may have harbored a secret crush on him.
After graduating from Hogwarts, Ailis began her career as a healer. She spent her first few years working at St. Mungo’s in London, but would transfer to the Irish hospital, Leighis. She spent the remainder of her career at Leighis.
In 1959, Ailis reconnected with Seán O’Donnell… after he spilled his coffee all over the two of them. Ailis was instantly smitten with the man and they began rekindling their friendship, which turned romantic when he asked her to dinner on her twenty-fourth birthday. Ailis married Seán on May 29, 1962.
Their first years of marriage were a little rough as they both faced a series of losses, including the death of Ailis’s parents from dragon pox while she was pregnant with her first child. No one was able to identify what was ailing Ailis, and on July 25, Ailis and Seán agreed to end the search for a cure or diagnosis. The healers had discovered it was not contagious and Ailis was able to spend the remainder of her life with her husband and children. She passed away, peacefully, in her sleep early on August 2, 1974.
Unfortunately, Ryan doesn’t have any memories of his mother as she died when he was less than a year old. He treasures the few photographs that he and his siblings have of his mother.
Faceclaim: Stephanie Zimbalist
Brother: Cian Jacob O’Donnell [1965-2002]
Cian was born on January 18, 1965, making him a little over eight years older than the quadruplets. Upon starting Hogwarts, Cian was sorted into Gryffindor and became involved in the Cursed Vaults. He used them as a crutch to ignore the grief of losing his parents, grandparents, and a close friend. He also used them as an attempt to impress his uncle.
After he was released from the portrait vault, Cian fled from Hogwarts and sunk into hiding. He didn’t know how to handle the mess that he had made and he had an intense desire for acceptance. Cian spends most of his life hiding and generally being a bit of a vagabond. In 2002, Cian fell fatally ill and passed away on December 13, 2002 at age 37.
Ryan never had much of a relationship with his older brother, mostly because Cian disappeared when he was eight and then continued to disappear after being released from the Vaults. Ryan did, however, put his older brother up on a bit of a pedestal, forgetting some of his brother’s flaws. He is heartbroken, though, when he learns about Cian’s passing in 2002.

Sister: Cara Rose O’Donnell
Born on August 18, 1973, Cara is the second quadruplet, fifteen minutes younger than Ryan, and a Slytherin. Ryan is quite close with his sister. Despite being in what are considered rival houses, they have always gotten along and are quite similar in personality. However, they do have a fierce rivalry on the quidditch pitch and tend to be very competitive.

Born on August 18, 1973, Sara is the third quadruplet, thirty-six minutes younger than Ryan, and a Hufflepuff. Ryan probably has the most distant relationship with Sara, but they are still close. They were both invested in the Cursed Vaults and they bonded over it. They are also very supportive of one another, and don’t have many arguments.

Born on August 18, 1973, Conor is the youngest quadruplet, fifty-seven minutes younger than Ryan, and a Ravenclaw. Ryan is very close to his brother and although they often have brotherly spats, both Ryan and Conor know that the other always has his back. Despite appearing very different on surface, they are both rather similar in personality. However, their biggest argument arose at the end of their fifth year, when Conor announced that he was done with the Vaults.

Grandfather: Lorcan Ryan O’Donnell [deceased, 1905-1979]
Lorcan was born in Donegal Town, Ireland, on January 29, 1905 to Jacob and Mary O’Donnell, joining elder brother, Eoin (1899-1920). For the most part, Lorcan’s early childhood was calm and stable, as he grew up the son of a farmer. However, things changed in his early teen years, as when Lorcan was 14, the Irish War of Independence broke out. His brother insisted on joining the cause and was killed in 1920 at the age of 21, while participating in the raiding of a British supply train. From that point on, Lorcan’s parents forbid the 15-year-old from becoming further involved in the war. Lorcan abided by their wishes, grieving for his older brother, and settled into a world of history that had yet to be adequately told.
After the war and the partition and at the age of 20, Lorcan traveled to Dublin to spend some time with his bachelor uncle Michael as he studied at a university. A few weeks into his stay, Lorcan met Rose Boyle and started up a friendship with her, which had always had a bit of a romantic tilt. That friendship continued, even when Lorcan returned to Donegal to help his aging parents with the selling of the farm. After the farm had been sold, Lorcan accepted a teaching position in Dublin for a year. He reconnected with Rose and they fell deeper into love. He married Rose in 1927, and they moved back to Donegal in 1936, with their first and only child on the way. They had struggled for some time to conceive, and upon finally conceiving, they decided to move back for the support of Lorcan’s parents as they had also received a small but hefty inheritance from Lorcan’s late uncle. Their only child, Seán Michael O’Donnell, was born on June 30, 1936.
Lorcan adored his son and did his best to raise his son into a good man, which he succeeded in doing. He was surprised to learn that his son was a wizard, but he continued to love and nurture his son, the best he could for a man born in the 1900s. While his son grew and studied, Lorcan spent a lot of time cataloging the history of his hometown and fostering his marriage with Rose. Lorcan’s parents passed away within a three year span, with his father dying in 1947 and his mother in 1950. He adored them and eagerly welcomed Ailis Lynch into the family when Seán married her in 1962. He was also very excited when his first grandchild, Cian Jacob, was born in 1965, and his excitement quintupled when his quadruplet grandchildren, Ryan Michael, Cara Rose, Sara Ailis, and Conor Lorcan, were born in 1973. He was also incredibly touched to learn that Ryan and Conor were named after him.
Lorcan adored being a grandfather and could often be found telling one of his grandchildren a long and complicated story, especially when they were babies. To Lorcan, moving in to help his son raise his children after becoming a widower was a no brainer and Lorcan adored doing so, even though he was heartbroken by his daughter-in-law’s 1974 death. It was also a no brainer to raise his grandchildren after his son’s death in 1978, which was shattering and Lorcan knows the only reason he lived through that painful time was because of his grandchildren. Unfortunately, Lorcan’s time with his grandchildren was limited as, in 1979 and only a few months after losing his son, Lorcan caught a fatal case of pneumonia. He passed away at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of love for his grandchildren, son, and history.
Ryan adored his grandfather, but unfortunately doesn’t have many memories of him. Most of the memories he does have, though, are associated with the little trinkets that his grandfather gave him. In fact, Ryan often carries around the little red matchbox car that his grandfather gave him shortly after his father died.

Born on November 18, 1906 in Dublin, Ireland, Rose was the only child of Patrick and Brigid Boyle. Rose’s childhood was spent in the city of Dublin and she enjoyed her childhood very much. Of course, things changed when the war for independence broke out and her family relocated to live with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in the countryside. Two of her cousins were killed during the war and the war made Rose grow up rather quickly.
After the war and at the age of 19, Rose moved back to Dublin and she got a job at a bookstore, which allowed her to meet Lorcan O’Donnell. They struck up a friendship, which turned into letters once Lorcan moved back to Donegal. They reconnected, though, once Lorcan moved back to teach for a year. Rose married Lorcan in 1927, and a few years later they moved back to Donegal, as Rose was pregnant with their only child. Her son, Seán Michael, was born on June 30, 1936 and Rose adored her new baby boy. She loved him dearly and was surprised by the fact that he was a wizard. However, it didn’t make her love him any less. After he started at Hogwarts, Rose began a new project, retelling Irish and Celtic myths and legends underneath a pen name when she published. In addition, Rose’s parents also passed away when her son was still a child.
Rose was overjoyed when Ailis Lynch joined the family in 1962. She was also very excited to meet her first grandchild, Cian Jacob when he was born in 1965, and was overjoyed when her quadruplet grandchildren, Ryan Michael, Cara Rose, Sara Ailis, and Conor Lorcan were born in 1973. Rose was very touched to learn that Seán and Ailis had given her name to baby Cara. Rose was also heartbroken when Ailis died in 1974 and immediately agreed to move in to help her son raise his five children. Rose was also heartbroken by the subsequent losses of her son in 1978 and her husband in 1979, but she dedicated her time to her grandchildren. Unfortunately, like her husband, Rose only had a limited amount of time with her grandchildren as she suffered a fatal hemorrhagic stroke a few months after losing her husband. She passed away at the age of 73 and left behind a legacy of love for her grandchildren.
Ryan adored his grandmother, but again, doesn’t have very many clear memories of his grandmother. He is easily reminded of her though, even if he cannot place the memory or why that reminds him of her.
Grandparents: Conor Ryan Lynch [deceased, 1900-1964] and Ciara Mary Lynch née Mallon [deceased, 1900-1964]
Born on March 29, 1900 and sorted into Hufflepuff, Conor was the only son and child of Cillian Lynch and Orla O’Rourke. Conor was pretty much the opposite of his parents and never spent much time around them, but he was still shocked when his father was arrested in 1925. After Hogwarts, Conor became a healer. His youngest grandson was named after him.
Born in 1900 and sorted into Ravenclaw, Ciara is the second child of David and Mary Mallon. Unlike her husband, Ciara was a muggleborn. She was infinitely fascinated by the wizarding world and was eager to learn all she could. After Hogwarts, Ciara became a ministry secretary and bounced around the different departments, sating her infinite curiosity.
Conor and Ciara married in 1924, after meeting in the ministry. They had two children together, Doyle Brannigan in 1925 and Ailis Ciara in 1936. They both contracted dragon pox and died on the day, hours apart. They never got to meet their grandchildren, which meant that Ryan never knew them.
Uncle: Doyle Brannigan Lynch [1925-1998]
Born on December 13, 1925 and a Slytherin, Doyle was the eldest child of Conor and Ciara Lynch and nearly eleven years older than his younger sister, Ailis. Despite having a kind and loving childhood, Doyle still became quite cold and ruthless. He was a terrifying combination of his grandfather and great-grandfather. No one has any idea how he ended up that way.
At the age of 40, Doyle inherited the Lynch Manor and 40% of the family fortune upon the deaths of his parents. He was infinitely fascinated by the darkness the manor held and especially of the portrait of his great-grandfather, the abusive Bain Lynch. Doyle also was a bachelor, and was one for his entire life.
At the age of 54, Doyle received custody of his nieces and nephews, much to his disdain. However, he did see potential in his eldest nephew, Cian. Doyle began to manipulate the boy, taking advantage of the grief-riddled teen’s desperation for approval. In doing so, though, Doyle neglected the quadruplets until Cian was expelled from Hogwarts. Then, he began to launch into tirades, and occasionally got physically violent. A common refrain was calling the quads’ father “your filthy mudblood father.” Doyle died at the age of 73, in 1998.
Ryan never liked his uncle. He’d always found his mother’s brother creepy and unhinged. He generally tried to avoid the man, but Ryan has been known to antagonize Doyle when the man is already pissed off.

Ryan first met Penny Haywood in herbology, when Professor Sprout paired them together during their second ever lesson. They became quick friends and crushes began in their fourth year, right around the time of the Celestial Ball. Those crushes remained for years, but other things got in the way. Penny’s sister got trapped in the portrait vault. Their one attempt at dating backfired. Ryan went to Egypt after graduating, while Penny went to New York City. However, in 1995, both Ryan and Penny returned to London and began reconnecting. They agreed to stay friends, with the occasional romantic thing on the side. That all changed in 1997 when they mutually agreed to begin dating again. They remained steady throughout the war and in 1998, after the war had ended, Ryan used his paternal grandmother’s engagement ring to propose to Penny, which she accepted. Ryan married Penny on April 18, 2000.

Childhood:
Born at 7:04 pm on August 18, 1973, Ryan Michael O’Donnell was the second child and second son of Seán and Ailis O’Donnell. He joined fellow quadruplets, Cara Rose (born at 7:19 pm), Sara Ailis (born at 7:41 pm), and Conor Lorcan (born at 8:01 pm) as well as older brother, Cian Jacob (then 8). Seán and Ailis were kind and loving parents, who did everything they could for their children, including spending countless hours at Leighis as Ryan and his fellow quadruplets were born approximately ten weeks prematurely. Rysn himself had weighed only three pounds and eight ounces at birth but with no other health issues.
Brought home at two months old, Ryan’s first few months at home were stable and loving and happy. His parents doted on him and his siblings, even though Cian wasn’t quite sure what to make of the quadruplets. Unfortunately, in July, about a month before Ryan’s first birthday, his mother fell deathly ill. Healers tried in vain to diagnose her and find a cure, but were ultimately unsuccessful. On July 25, Seán and Ailis agreed to end all attempts to diagnose and cure her. The disease wasn’t contagious, and it wasn’t worth it anymore. On August 2, 1974, in the wee hours of the morning, Ailis Ciara O’Donnell (née Lynch) passed peacefully in her sleep, leaving her husband to raise their five children… mostly alone.
A few months later, in January, 1975, Seán quit his job in the auror office and became a stay-at-home dad. However, that plan was slightly interrupted when Albus Dumbledore offered Seán the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, which Seán eventually accepted but only for a year. After that, Seán officially prioritized his children and raising them to the best of his ability, along with the help of his parents, Lorcan and Rose, who had moved in shortly after Ailis’s death. Unfortunately, in April of 1978, Seán passed away after a fatal car accident.
After the death of his father, Ryan and his siblings were primarily raised by their grandparents, who did their best to handle four toddlers and one moody, grief-riddled teenager. It was hard, but both Lorcan and Rose thought it was very rewarding work. Unfortunately, this didn’t last long either as in January of 1979, Lorcan caught pneumonia and that eventually claimed his life. Only a few months later, in May of 1979, Rose suffered a fatal hemorrhagic stroke.
Thus, Ryan and his siblings were placed into the custody of their uncle, Doyle. He was their late mother’s older brother, whom Ryan and his siblings had never met. The siblings were also relocated to Lynch Manor, which was a gloomy and loveless place where it seemed to echo with the misery of previous generations. However, Doyle generally ignored his nieces and nephews, especially Ryan, Cara, Sara, and Conor as they were not yet six. Ryan rarely ever saw his uncle, which meant that he and his siblings more or less had a free reign over the manor and its grounds.
However, everything began to change when Ryan was eight and his older brother was expelled from Hogwarts. Doyle began to have violent outbursts, especially where his nieces and nephews were concerned. Yet, Doyle rarely ever laid a hand on Ryan and his siblings as he preferred to give degrading lectures where he attacked anything that he perceived as a weakness. Ryan then developed a tendency to antagonize Doyle in those moments.
Hogwarts Years:
Upon starting Hogwarts, Ryan was sorted into Gryffindor. He made friends with his dormmates (Charlie, Ben, Ash, and Jae) quite quickly and was comfortable in his house. He also even made a few lifelong friends and established friendships with his siblings. He enjoyed his friends and liked making new ones as well.
For six years, Ryan participated in an investigation into the Cursed Vaults, alongside his siblings in a search to find out the truth about what happened to their older brother. Ryan was the most passionate about this investigation, and was always moving full steam ahead, even when his siblings began to tire from them. However, he accidentally let the Vaults take over most of his time at Hogwarts and some things, like a romantic relationship with Penny Haywood, were sacrificed in his search. Despite his passion for the Vaults, he was quite relieved when they were finally finished and he could focus on being a teenager.
After finishing the Vaults in his sixth year, Ryan devoted his seventh year to excelling in quidditch and embracing normalcy. In that same year, he wrote to Bill Weasley requesting information about gaining an apprenticeship in cursebreaking.
Adulthood:
After graduating from Hogwarts, Ryan began working as an apprentice cursebreaker in Egypt under the tutelage of Bill Weasley. He remained in Egypt alongside Bill until 1995, when Harry Potter reported Voldemort’s return. Upon his return, Ryan followed Bill in getting a job at Gringotts. He also found himself reconnecting with Penny, and their relationship began moving towards romance rather quickly.
When the second wizarding war broke out, Ryan joined the Order of the Phoenix alongside his siblings. For a while, Ryan mostly kept his ear to the ground, listening for gossip or hints about what the death eaters were doing. After Dumbledore’s death, Ryan offers to run a safe house in the Irish countryside, in a small cottage which belonged to his maternal grandparents. He runs the house with help from Penny and some of the others. He also helps with rescuing people from snatchers. Ryan also fights in the Battle of Hogwarts and walks away unscathed in the long term, but for a few weeks he walks with a limp.
After the war, Ryan continues with his job at Gringotts, but eventually forms his own cursebreaking firm. He also proposes to Penny and they get married on April 18, 2000. They have two children: Michael George, born on January 5, 2003, and Winifred Ailis, born on November 30, 2005.
Old Age:
Ryan retired at the age of 90, devoting the remainder of his life to his hobbies and family. He enjoyed retirement and traveled to a few different places around the world alongside Penny. He remained close to his siblings and mourned any familial passings.
Death:
Ryan passed away, in his sleep, at the age of 117, approximately nine months after Penny passed away. He had lived a long and fulfilled life and left behind two children, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Ryan didn’t decide on his career path until his sixth year. When asked about during OWLs counseling, he admitted to McGonagall that he had no idea what he wanted to do in the future. Luckily, she pointed him towards taking the classes to become a cursebreaker.
Ryan’s mental state remained unaffected by the trauma of his early life because of the love magic that dispersed when his parents died. That love magic managed to protect Ryan’s, Cara’s, Sara’s, and Conor’s minds from the worst of their trauma.
When Ailis O’Donnell died, an ancient protection magic wove itself into her five children. While it didn’t do all that much for her eldest son, who was nine at the time, it did provide much protection to her younger four children, aged eleven months. Its power wasn’t based on who was loved more. No, this magic’s power was influenced more by the children’s ages than anything else, really. Her eldest, at nine, never managed to recover from the grief and over the next seven years, her son’s destructive grief overpowered the magic. Her younger four, being much younger, had no memory of Ailis and so, the grief they held was different, less oppressive than her eldest son’s. Thus, it was able to be strengthened over time as it fed on the love and bond that always held steadfast for the quadruplets.
