Hey TTRPG nerds
Anybody got recommendations for indie ttrpg youtubers? I'm looking for content that is broadly not D&D-specific, and not actual plays. So, video essays/reviews of games, how-to-plays, GMing/playing advice, game design, etc.

How to Play: Wayne from Letterkenny
Tumblr media
Like Popeye, this is pretty straightforward, but also I feel like there are at least a couple ways you can go with it.
5e
Race
Wayne's a human (preferably Variant), let's be honest.
That said, Half-Orc is definitely a defensible choice with it's ability bonuses, Relentless Endurance, Savage Attacks, and free Intimidate proficiency.
Class
The main way to go, I think, is with some homebrew from DnDBeyond, because when I stated thinking about this build, Barbarian seemed the key way to go. Unfortunately, the normal Barbarian paths don't quite work, and 5e made unarmed combat even more of a "Only Monks Need Apply" thing than 3.X.
HOWEVER, there are of course multiple Brawler paths on DnDBeyond. This one is the highest rated one, and looking at the others, I can see why. It's just simpler and cleaner. It gives you an unarmed strike with improving damage as you level like the monk's Martial Arts feature, your fists are treated as magical weapons (an integral thing when playing a puncher in D&D as you level up), and some other nice abilities as you level up. Wayne's a pretty straightforward brawler, but I feel like he's not above throwing a fucker or using a beer bottle in a life and death situation.
Barbarian? Yeah.
Wayne's pretty stoic and quiet, but you can tell when he's angry, and he has a standard "preparing for a fight" action:
Tumblr media
Background
In normal core 5e, there isn't a farmer background, but again, DnDBeyond of course has multiple farmer backgrounds in the homebrew. This one feels fitting, between the Advantage on Animal Handling and the "you know enough Druidic to say hello or ask for directions" if you call Druidic "Queebeckois" and druids Degens.
"My DM doesn't like Homebrew"
Ok, that's cool. I think Homebrew is much easier to allow in 5e because everything is so formulated, but, hey, there are valid reasons to not include it even then (like "I work full time and I'm not going to go look over every custom thing everyone wants to use.")
In that case, it's a bit weirder and will ask for more handwaving/refluffing, but I think a Kensai Monk/Zealot Barbarian could work. If you just want to dip a level or two of Barbarian for the rage and not hit third for a path, I feel like that's defensible, since it's the unarmed damage of the monk you're going to want to focus on.
For a non-Homebrew Background, you probably want to go with Folk Hero. I think Wayne definitely qualifies as a Folk Hero, and it's the closest published stuff comes to a "commoner who turns adventurer" background. It gives you Animal Handling and Survival (yes, Barbarian can get those, but you can then use your class proficiencies to take Athletics and Intimidation, or Nature instead of one of those). Rustic Hospitality also feels fitting.
Feats
Your first feat (assuming your GM is allowing feats, but my impression is that that's pretty standard) should be Magic Initiate.
Yes, I know, Wayne isn't a magic user. But take Magic Initiate and choose Bard, because then you can get the cantrip Vicious Mockery, and you can hurt people just by chirping at them, which is very in-theme for Wayne. Think of the cold open with the hockey players coming up the laneway. They are definitely taking psychic damage from Wayne, Daryl and Dan just verbally handing them their asses. For your other spells, I would take Mending and Speak with Animals. They just feel appropriate for Wayne, things that would be useful on a farm.
Tumblr media
Other options
Ok, so, I'm saying Wayne needs some Bard spells.
Why not dip Bard?
Well... because multiclassing can already be brutal to your overall effectiveness. BUT, a level of Bard would be pretty fitting instead of the Magic Initiate feat. "Pitter Patter, let's get at 'er" is just so fitting as a way of giving your allies Bardic Inspiration. In this case, your 1st level spells should probably be Animal Friendship, Healing Word, Heroism and Speak with Animals.
Pathfinder
Pathfinder actually has a Brawler class, which a Fighter/Monk hybrid, and would be perfect. Dip some Barbarian for rage, and maybe use the Exemplar archetype to get some limited Bard-ness. But you could also go pure Barbarian with Improved Unarmed Strike and such.

Xikers Full Storyline Explained - Part 4
Masterlist
HOMEBOY
Unlike 'DO or DIE', 'Homeboy' does include elements of the main storyline (namely, the concept of the spirit orb), but it doesn't progress the narrative. However, as it is such a visually stunning music video with a wholesome core message, we'll still dive right in.
We open on a sick-ass shot of Hunter and one of the blue fiery spirit orbs we've last seen in 'Rockstar'. It circles him as he tells us repeatedly "We're a different kind", hinting at them no longer being fully human.
Tumblr media
Hunter turns to part a blackout curtain which takes us to a semiarid warm temperate desert type of scene (it's desert-ish but there are leafy bushes and stuff - I don't know my climate zones)
Central to the frame are four of the members lounging on a loveseat and a couple of armchairs
While Hunter exits the shot, the spirit orb finds a home in the table lamp beside the couch, illuminating it
Tumblr media
This is followed by one of the most easily debunked statements I've ever read:
Tumblr media
After dropping that absolute bold-faced lie, Yujun pulls the string of the lamp which changes the daytime to the middle of the night
Delighted by this discovery, Hyunwoo swaps seats so he can play around with the lamp as well
Tumblr media
He repeatedly pulls the string for a bit until the orb exits the lamp and we cut to a scene clapper belonging to the shooting of the 'HOMEBOY' music video which Xikers are producing while Yechan is directing
Tumblr media
A small street-side was built in the middle of a field which Yechan exits as he raps and dances around
Following his verse, the camera swings to the rest of Xikers who're chilling in the grass
Since we've last seen Yujun, he seems to have discovered a mirror and found his way back to the real world which then, thankfully, changed his stance on their appearance. Good for him.
Tumblr media
As they're picnicking, the spirit orb flies by above their heads which allows for a pretty wide shot of the same four members who were in the desert before
The spirit orb is now leading them on a little stroll away from the rest of the group
Tumblr media
Based on the lyrics stated in the close-up of the four in which their expressions are contrastingly serious, my theory is that the orb represents Junghoon - hence also the line "Can't replace, HOMEBOY"
Tumblr media
Reunited after their little walk, the entire group play around a bit more until Junmin spots the orb crossing the sky and points it out to the rest
They bounce after it, letting it guide them, trusting it blindly
Tumblr media
We hard-cut to a close up of the entire group, though there's one spot notably empty. Junghoon isn't there. Their faces are grim, the colors are darker and more muted. The framing tells us something's wrong.
After all the lighthearted fun, we're being told a serious message: "Sometimes, the scathing looks might give you a hard time and hurt you / Keep in mind, you know that by your side, looking in the same direction, is us, here with you"
Tumblr media
They all get up and the camera begins to track to the right, circling them as they tell us: "Let's go, now or never / Always, we're together"
We can now see the orb led them to the beach where it now returns to its spot between Jinsik and Yechan. The only empty space. Junghoon's spot.
Tumblr media
After playing around until sunset, the boys sit by the sea shore to watch the waves and sky
Just then, the spirit orb returns to join them. While not present in his human form, Junghoon still spent the whole day with them.

OKAY
NOW THE PROMISED RAMBLE
So uh I have weird obsessions every now and then and I thought why not ramble about em here bc Twitter is scary and idfk I wanna see other people get into new stuff
Topic of the day: Mahjong
Tumblr media
When I was taking a plane back home after visiting with family, I saw that the plane had a game called Mahjong. I thought "Huh, like Solitaire Mahjong?", but nope, it was a completely different game to what I was normally accustumed to. So as usual, after the plane ride was over, I decided to research the game and found myself a really fun game to spend time on!
So Mahjong is a really popular and old game that originates in China. It is a four-player strategic game often played with marble/wood tiles that are used to create hands to win the game. This game has sO many variations around asia, hell even America made their own mahjong variation (Which I personally dislike bc it makes it wayyy too close to poker). The main premise of the game is similar across the variations, so its not hard to get into different types of mahjong if you started off with something different. The one I got into was Riichi Mahjong, which is the Japanese variation of mahjong. (Note: Imma delve into the basics of the Jp variation of Mahjong bc I think it is the most readily available to play online and is the most popular)
Tumblr media
So how does one play this game? The game has several tiles and your goal is to make a complete hand of 14 tiles having four sets of Chi/Pon/Kan (Will explain in a bit) and a pair of the same tile. The game has three suits, all numbered from 1-9. They are known as:
Pin/Dots: Use little circles that go from 1-9
Tumblr media
Sou/Bamboo: Use bamboo that go from 1-9, the 1 is unique in which it is often represented as a bird such as a peacock or a sparrow.
Tumblr media
Man/Characters: Use the chinese/japanese symbols for the numbers 1-9 (一、二、三、四、五、六、七、八、九) and the symbol for 10,000 (萬)
Tumblr media
Along with these suits are the honor tiles:
Winds: Use the chinese/japanese characters for the cardinal East, South, West, and North directions (東、南、西、北)
Tumblr media
Dragons: Arent denoted by their character, but instead by their color. So they are simply known as the white, green, and red dragons.
Tumblr media
In other variations, there may be flower tiles and season tiles, which represent the four seasons in a year (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall), they serve as bonus tiles if they are drawn and can grant bonus points.
So now that we are familiar with the tiles, our goal is to now make that 14 tile hand that we mentioned. This is achieved by drawing a tile when it is your turn and discarding one you dont need. As you do this, you start forming a pile in the center that consists of all of your and your opponents discards. These discards are very important bc you can actually take your opponents discards to gain a hand! This is known as Chi/Pon/Kan!
A Chi is a set of three tiles of the same suit that go in a sequential order (So like a 1-2-3, 5-6-7, etc.), note that only the suits can do this, you cant do this with honor tiles! A Pon is a triplet of the same tile, and a Kan is a quad of the same tile! Kans are harder to get bc each tile has four copies of its own, meaning you have to be really lucky to draw all four during a match!
When you see a peice that has been discarded but can complete a Chi/Pon/Kan, you can call the piece and take it as your own! For Chi, you can only call to the discards of the player to the left of you (The turns are played counter-clockwise), but for Pon/Kan, you can call whichever player who discards it.
Here is an example of a player who called Pon on the 9 Sou and a Chi on the 2-3-4 Pin. The tiles are tilted on which player they got it from, so the Pon was called from the player to their right and the Chi has to be from the left so the left is tilted.
Tumblr media
This makes the game really exciting and strategic, making you think about what tiles you discard while making your own hand.
Now how does one win a match? There are two ways to win, and these are either by Tsumo or Ron.
Tsumo is when you finally get the last tile you needed by drawing it, this one is pretty tough to get imo. Then theres Ron, where the piece you needed is discarded by a player and you call on their discard to win. This one I think is not only easier to get, but also more brutal since Tsumo makes everyone lose points depending on the hand, and Ron instead takes a BUNCH of points from the person who discarded it.
Heres an example of someone winning by Tsumo, they drew the 5 Sou to complete their hand!
Tumblr media
SO UH
Imma wrap this up bc I realized theres so many more rules to go off about but I kidna wanna keep this short so if you want to get into this, you can do some research on other details such as Riichi, Yaku, Dora, etc.
I do wanna end this with how cool some of the Mahjonf equipment is. There are these tables that are fully automated and can help start the game with a simple push of a button!
Tumblr media
I MEAN LOOK AT THIS THIS IS SO COOL
I also own a physical set myself, but due to image limitations I might have to show that in a sep post lmfoa
So yahoo thats me going nuts about a game I like. Will I do more of these? Possibly, I might do Yugioh or Chess if Im in the mood.
For now Imma detonate into confetti bc this took half an hour or more so sæyAA

Hey, I finally got Rain World on my laptop. Been thinking of getting it for a while since I saw Curious Archive discuss it and the DLC. As well as seeing some playthroughs of the DLC slugcats. Haven't got Downpour yet since I don't want to overspend at the moment.
So, I'm not great a video games, I usually play on easy for a reason or play more casual games. But I want to be able to explore the world and survive reasonably ok? Does anyone have any tips or something to recommend? Also do you need Downpour for the mods or does it just depends on the mod?

How to Play: Popeye
Tumblr media
Ok, so this is actually kinda straightforward. You're a multiclass barbarian/monk. More specifically, you're a Path of the Zealot Barbarian/Way of the Astral Self Monk.
At base, just being a barbarian/monk gives you some good Popeye-esque stuff. You don't "rage" you eat spinach. You get increased defense without armor (I ain't never seen Popeye wear armor, have you?), you get extra attacks, your punches do more damage than normal, you can punch missiles away, martial arts gives you multiple punches from level one, etc. If you have seven levels of Barbarian, Feral Instinct even lets you eat your spinach in an ambush.
Path of the Zealot
With Path of the Zealot, your path abilities all just feel right for Popeye. That first punch in a round is a killer, you can be raised from apparent death with no material componentsjust a can of spinach, when you've eaten your spinach, you can better resist poison/explosions/mental assault. Hell, even Zealous Presence can be fluffed as Popeye blowing a steam whistle from his pipe-
Tumblr media
And at 14th level, you're strong to the finich cuz you ates your spinach with Rage Beyond Death.
Way of the Astral Self
So then, why Way of the Astral Self?
Tumblr media
YOU CAN HAVE AN IN-GAME, MAGICAL EXPLANATION FOR GIANT POPEYE FOREARMS.
Ok, so that's actually just a bonus, but the visual of Arms of the Astral Self is a really nice bonus lol.
The actual main effects of this ability aren't really a big deal, because if you're playing Popeye, you're going to emphasize Strength. Being able to use Wisdom in its place is meh. BUT
Tumblr media
That doesn't look like normal melee range to me.
(ok, I just couldn't find a gif of Popeye's arm stretching out *as* he punches someone, but I know that's a thing)
Body of the Astral Self lets you deflect energy damage and do double your Martial Arts die for damage with your punches. Awakened Astral Self increases your AC without armor and ups your punches per turn to four.
Ephemera
Ok, so, that's your classes. Obviously your background is going to be Sailor. Sailor gives you Athletics and Perception proficiencies, so (assuming you take Barbarian as your base class, which you should) take Intimidation and Survival as your class proficiencies. You could also ask your GM if you could take Performance as one of your proficiencies.
Tumblr media
You *probably* want to be human, especially if your GM is using Tasha's Cauldron style ability increases, but Orc or the like would be a defensible choice.
(also, I will put in a word here for playing a harengon and being a mix of Popeye and Bugs Bunny who eats carrots instead of spinach. And you get to add your proficiency to Initiative, meaning you're more likely to be able to eat your carrots at the start of combat)
For feats, Sentinel would definitely be good, given how often Popeye hits some as they move towards him. Tavern Brawler would also be very fitting, if perhaps a bit redundant (maybe if you want to forgo Monk levels), and if your GM doesn't let you take Performance in lieu of a normal Barbarian skill, you could take Skilled (I'd suggest Acrobatics, Performance and Concertina). Crusher would be amazing just for the 5' knockback, which is very Popeye. Fighting Initiate would also be good to give you Two-Weapon Fighting.
Downsides
Now. There are some drawbacks. 5e refuses to let you take two bonus actions in a turn, which means you can't rage and spend ki points for Astral Self stuff on the same turn. I would recommend asking your GM if you can do both in one turn provided you do nothing else (and if they're reticent, offer to forgo the martial arts damage when manifesting your arms). I feel like that's honestly pretty fitting for Popeye eating spinach.
Other Options?
You could go Way of the Sun Soul, since Popeye does some fire-y shit with his pipe when he powers up sometimes. However, you could actually forgo Monk levels entirely, take Tavern Brawler for your punching, and get levels of Warlock instead. In this case, you probably want to go Pact of the Blade (with a gauntlet as your pact weapon) and Hexblade as your patron. I can' find an invocation that lets you channel your eldritch blast through melee, alas, but honestly, Eldritch Smite and hex-pact-blade stuff works well, and if you want to use your EB for stuff, like repelling blast, just fluff it. Gift of the Depths would be really fitting for Popeye.

Xikers Full Storyline Explained - Part 3
Masterlist
NOTE: Apologies for the new post - I accidentally deleted the old one when I was cleaning up my old posts in the mass editor so I had to rewrite it from scratch.
DO or DIE
While this MV doesn't move the storyline forward (which is likely due to Junghoon's absence at the time), we can still take a little look at its self-contained plot for the fun of it!
We begin with a shot of an old tube TV with an integrated cassette player
Note the 'Xikers' and 'Do or Die' tape, as well as the blue-and-yellow background (the latter will be noteworthy in a second)
Tumblr media
We zoom in on the screen as it switches on and displays the main menu of a little game called "The Adventures of Xikers: Zombieland"
A little pixelated red and black van comes flying at us as we select "Play" and cut to the Mission screen which announces: "Mission: Capture zombie's heart"
From there, we cut to the interior of (presumably the before seen) van where we find ourselves in the company of Xikers themselves
Tumblr media
However, we're also quit to cut to another version of Xikers who're lounging on a couch and cushions in front of a familiar yellow-and-blue wall
It's now conveniently already been established that we've got both the in-game and real-life versions of them and we'll be cutting back and forth between the two throughout the duration of the MV
Tumblr media
Their in-game versions roll up to a zombie-infested street with their weapons already in hand, kicking off their mission
(It's here where I'd like to point out the super extravagant outfits they're wearing which tell us that their real-life counterparts spent a ridiculous amount of time in the character creation section just to put as much random extra items on their avatars as possible)
Now at the starting point of the game, their in-game selves are quick to knock out a couple of zombies in a row, swinging bats and pipes to lay them out flat and stand threateningly over them
Tumblr media
And by threateningly, I mean adorably
Tumblr media
We've got Yujun hopping onto the roof of a car, while Jinsik, Yechan and Seeun push along a zombie whom they've placed on a hospital gurney
Meanwhile, Sumin has made himself at home in the back of a van stacked full of boxes labeled "xikers" which he then exits to show off its exterior (there, we can then also see the van company's motto: "We blow up everywhere" - a line from the song)
Tumblr media
The members then gather around the gurney and begin to fasten electrodes to the zombie's chest, place headphones over his ears and inject him with an unknown substance (something tells me these kids don't have a medical license)
They then proceed to dump him in a wheelchair and push him along the street until they've reached the stage built at its end
Xikers take the stage and begin to perform as the zombies flock around the parked cars they'll sometimes be jumping onto
Some of the already treated zombies then also join in on the jamming as a drummer and guitarists respectively
Tumblr media
As we move into vers two, we return to the real-life versions of xikers who, for now, stop playing and roam around the store they've been chilling in
The little "Tricky" video rental place is very much reminiscent of the Blockbuster stores found around the US from the mid-80s up until a decade or ago
Tumblr media
This then raises the question what the fuck these kids are doing in there and why they're not being supervised by an older adult
Do Yechan's parents own the place? Did they start a business themselves at such a young age? Does one of them live in a house that has a fake video rental store in its basement for some reason? Guess we'll never know.
Either way, they return to the game after a bit and have Junmin absolutely obliterate half the earth for the sake of going full Happy Gilmore on an innocent golf ball
Tumblr media
They then jam out with the zombies some more until they've fully converted them with the power of music and performance, at which point they join in on the dancing and fireworks explode in the sky, declaring the mission was successfully cleared which marks the closely followed end of the MV
