Two years ago my husband and I were at a wedding that had a vibe from GOT.

First of all, my husband's ex-girlfriend who hurt him a lot in the past, let's call her Alys, was invited to it with her fiance, there was also some kind of rivalry between one side of the family and the other.

Alys pulled him away with difficulty and led him outside, later her guy, when he calmed down after theirs conversation I suppose, asked me if I am mad at them, and I replied to him in front of her: "Why should I be mad? Thanks to what you two have done in the past, I'm the wife of my beloved husband."

He said to me: "We should pay you a visit someday, come to your city so we can spend some time together."

Me and my husband was like: What the fuck.

They drove back to the hotel even though it was still early and didn't come back.

One of the bride's cousins came up to us long hours after that, looking disapprovingly at the groom's family who were dying because of too much alcohol while he had drunk four times as much as them and was still fresh. He snorted loudly and said this exact words:

HOTD 1x05: Wedding Night

After the wedding and Viserys’ fall, Rhaenyra and Laenor were put in a bedroom to perform their duty.

Unfortunately with the tragic event that unfolded, Laenor couldn’t perform that night, as he was in such a devastated state after his lover’s death. Rhaenyra could only hold him in her arms when they were lying with their nightgown on the bed until he felt asleep.

Once Laenor’s asleep, it gave Rhaenyra the opportunity to use the secret passage of this room to escape the situation. She walked one or two minutes down dark passages, but she knew exactly where she needed to be. She climbed some stairs until she were able to find another secret door to another room. When she entered it, everything was half-dark, but thanks to the few candles lying around she could find her way to the bed. Once there, she undressed from her remaining cloths, lifted the bed sheets and went directly on top of a naked sleepy Daemon. Of course, her weight on him woke him up. At first, he couldn’t understand fully what was happening, but then he murmured:

- “Rhaenyra…”

- “You will be my husband for tonight, Daemon.”

She replied and began to kiss him passionately, in which he replied automatically, until he stopped five minutes later.

- “Rhaenyra, wait… what about…”

- “Sh… It’s what you wanted no, to be my husband…”

- “Not like this…”

And what would have become of me? A pariah, obliged to fly to Essos alone and without money. Is that what you wish for me?” Rhaenyra replied angrily.

- “So what now? You want me to witness you having our child while you are still married to Laenor? Is that what you want?” Daemon said while looking directly to Rhaenyra’s eyes.

- “I don’t know… Maybe... What else should I do?”

- “You are playing a dangerous game, sweet niece, but I’m not a sharing man. You have forfeited Laenor’s life.”

- “You will not do such a thing! I need a strong alliance, an army, ships, … when I will need to defend my claim. Do you have that? No. You will learn to share. I want you in this marriage, I need you.”

- “What do I have in exchange?”

- “Me, the object of your desire. Isn’t that enough?”

- “No, but if that’s the case, I should also be able to marry who ever I want… why not Laena? Like this, we should be equally miserable, and you will have to share me the same way I do you.”

- “If that your condition, so be it.” Rhaenyra, showing tears in her purple eyes.

- “But know that, in a few years, if some unfortunate accident strike Laenor it will be on you.” Daemon murmuring in her ears.

Hot take, but I personally think all the Criston Cole hate is bs. He's probably one of the most despised characters in hotd and the slander is so unjustified.

Like damn, are you guys really going to hate on him for despising Rhaenyra after all she put him trough?

I'm 100% certain that if the genders were swapped almost everyone would side with him.

Just imagine a girl that owes her dream job on a prince that is in a significant position of power over her. One night, after things don't go his way, he makes sexual advances on the girl. She feels like she has to sleep with him, because of how he helped her achieve her goal. Also because if she refuses, the prince may be enraged and make up a lie to get her executed. Afterwards, she feels dirty, she knows she broke her oath, and that if caught she would be tortured and murdered, so she deludes herself into believing they love each other and should run away together. At least that way, she won't have ruined her life in vain.

But when she tells the prince her plan and confesses her feelings, the prince tells her that he's not willing to give up the throne for her and that all he wants her for is sex. She's pretty much just his glorified whore.

I bet all I have that in this case everyone would call Rhaenyra an evil fuck boy misogynist who only sees ladies as objects to sleep with. But since she's a girl, then the fandom views her as an empowered, sexually liberated girlboss who takes what she wants. Even if that leads a man to almost committing suicide.

The fact that the fan base also has the nerve to call him a pathetic incel is just the icing on the cake.

Guys, I'm not sure if you now, but hating a woman for something that has happened between you is not the equivalent of hating all women.

Criston hates her and her only, while treating every other lady in the show with great respect, hell he worships the ground on which Alicent walks! And scolds Aemond for how he treats sex workers, 'Cause for him they should all be respected like the mother! He's probably one of the least sexist characters in hotd lmao.

Sometimes I wonder if Rhaenyra stans can't stand him because they genuinely can't fathom a man receiving her advances, being offered to be her lover, and rejecting. Like "how dare him break our queen's heart!"
