randomly assorted radqueer homestuck headcannons
jade: always kind of knew she was radqueer as a little kid but it never really kicked off until it finally clicked in her head and she went NUTS. im talkin taking in transids like they were lost children in a snowstorm. u can take her 92 different identities and her hundred-neopronoun hoard out of her cold, dead hands
nepeta: oh do i even have to say it. this girl is the most proshippy proshipper to ever grace this earth. probably owns a bunch of yaoi manga just because. probably is the AUTHOR of a bunch of yaoi manga just because.
equius: probably only got into the whole proship business because of nep. not crazy about it, but he can respect it.. probably beta reads nep's fanfiction in his free time
dave: ex anti who probably started claiming transids as a joke but then realized he was very serious about it. probably hides it from his friends because he thinks he'll be laughed out a room. also probably is the proud owner of a thriving rq blog

people always act like there’s such a hard line between “psychotic person” and “normal person”, and I feel like that plays a lot into the dehumanization psychotic people face. cause once a nonpsychotic person internalizes this logic, suddenly we’re attractions and interesting and a fun research subject cause we’re just so fucking other that we become wholly unrelatable. for the nonpsychotic person, it’s unimaginable what psychosis must “really” feel like. so they treat us like a fictional species just trying to understand our existence. and they don’t worry about how their actions might affect us any more than they’d worry about insulting a vulcan by calling the vulcan thought process “just so interesting!”.
but in reality.... the difference between a psychotic person and a nonpsychotic person is not so stark. all human brains are prone to psychosis. all humans are capable of experiencing psychosis in one way or another. anyone could develop a full blown psychotic disorder at any time, no one is born immune to this. and while there’s some contexts in which it’s necessary to differentiate who does or doesn’t experience these symptoms of course, largely I think nonpsychotic people are doing themselves a disfavor - and being ableist in the process - by ignoring the hard truth of the matter: us psychotic people are exactly the same as them.

Recently I watched this tiktok about writing disabled characters and one of the tips was that your character's disability needs to have a plot point/purpose in the story.
As someone who's disabled, let me explain why I don't agree.
Now obviously if you want to add that plot aspect go ahead (within reason and respectfully) but I don't think it should be required.
Because it's not accurate. In real life, there's not a plot point/purpose of me being disabled. It's simply just how I exist. My disabilities don't serve a purpose. It's just how I am.
And I think that implying that disabilities need to serve a purpose goes down that slippery slope of "your disability is only acceptable if it benefits something somehow" or "this disabled person is only valid because their disability can help others in some way, be exploited maybe"
You wouldn't say this about any other trait. Or at least perhaps you shouldn't. People who have certain traits or other aspects of them are literally just existing, not to serve a plot point.

rant incoming abt something i’ve observed for a while
i (american) feel like we need better traditions. so many young and queer people in my experience are completely disillusioned with most of our (western) holidays either because they’re related to religion and that’s awkward for many people or because they’ve become Capitalism Lite or both. it’s hard to really enjoy a holiday when it’s overshadowed by the uncomfortable truths behind all of it.
like, christmas is nice because you get time off but it’s a constant reminder that we live in an extremely christian society that chafes at even the idea of other religions trying to exist (happy holidays vs merry christmas drama). non-christian religious holidays get like zero acknowledgement from wider society. no time off work or school, no decor in stores, etc. thanksgiving is nice bc you get to eat good food, but it’s based on colonial bs. valentine’s day is nice in theory but also an inescapable reminder that our society sees you as sad and lonely if you’re not in a relationship and if you’re not willing to spend lots of money on a partner. then theres smaller ones like labor day which is important but hard to enjoy when you’re reminded of how hard we have to fight for even an inch of appreciation or rest for workers in the us. most of the other minor holidays are subsumed by neverending consumerism and advertisement, such as mothers/father’s day.
and tell me if i’m just projecting here. but there are so few actual holidays that we can enjoy that i think it accelerates the homogenization of the seasons w global warming and the isolation and lack of community everyone is struggling with.
this is part of my theory as to why halloween is so incredibly popular with gen z - it’s doesn’t come with religious or historical baggage, doesn’t force people to spend time with families they don’t like or shame people for not fitting into nuclear family structures, isn’t based largely around buying gifts/spending money, and is an important marker in the season of fall. also this is part of why i think we latch on to stupid little anniversaries ie. neil banging out the tunes. it’s lighthearted and silly and is a grounding landmark for the passage of time and it brings us together to have fun.
all this to say we should really promote more holidays that are just. for fun. or for the passage of time. summer solstice. moon landing day. new years does fall into this category. pi day. star wars day. april fools. i really feel like we should be emphasizing and celebrating these unofficial holidays!! bringing people together and hanging out w friends or going out somewhere specific or making specific foods or something. just a regular tradition that we can rely on. yk? it’s so important

I’m not a writer by any means but I wanted to share a silly Charlastor Au that won’t leave my head:
(Set during episode 7) When Charlie and Alastor make their deal the spell accidentally gets fucked up. The deal worked, but it also created a bond between the two demons. Resulting in them being able to feel the other’s emotions. Neither demon knows what went wrong and neither can remove it.
They both (Alastor ‘if I show vulnerability for a single second I will die’ Altruist especially) don’t like the situation But there’s really no time to focus on it with the impending extermination. So they just adapt to it. Alastor nicknames the foreign emotions as feedback.
To Alastor the connection is just like radio feedback. It’s always present, at least a little. But usually He can block it out and carry on as normal as long as the feeling isn’t too strong. (He does NOT worry when Charlie is anxious/upset and definitely doesn’t try to help by disquietly sending comfort through the connection.) He’s a lot more concerned with keeping his own feelings in check.
Charlie for the most part doesn’t get a lot of feedback from Alastor. At least nothing identifiable, it present but faint. When she does it’s either a deliberate action to send a specific feeling to her. (Often one of comfort or pride). Or a quick, but intense, flash of something that disappears a seconds later (often before she can even identify what it was). She always makes sure to check on Alastor after these slips, making sure he’s okay.
During the extermination when Alastor is injured, Charlie is overwhelmed by such an intense fear that she nearly doubled over. This panic doesn’t leave for the rest of the battle. She leave’s almost as soon as the fight is over to find him. (Much to the confusion of the other residents). Charlie finds him mid breakdown and immediately works on calming him down, at least enough to deal with his injuries.
Afterwards Alastor acts more closed off towards everyone. He’s more determined to remove the bond than ever.
But Charlie isn’t convinced, she gets more feedback now than ever. And damn it Alastor is her friend and she refuses to let him distance himself without a fight.
(I’ll never write an actual fic but I’ll gladly share a more details if anyone likes this idea)

something I really like about fallout new Vegas is the different approach it has to the general 1950s Americana aesthetic fallout has.
in fallout 4 you get the best view of it, very white picket fence, all very clean and organized, like something out of a magazine. Even in the wasteland you can see remnants of it, with hairstyles and clothes and some structures bearing a resemblance to the world before the war. New Vegas meanwhile doesn’t shy away from the aesthetic, however it’s made very apparent that the bright lights and slang and pristine dress of the strip are fake, a performance turned lifestyle created because some people are unable to let go of a time long gone by, while the world just outside the gates is in tatters, but moving on as best as they can.
it feels like two separate worlds, and maybe the difference is just due to how much of the pre-war world is left to hold onto, but they really are interesting approaches to how people adapt after disaster and how letting go of the past and moving on take time and aren’t always the path that people, or communities, choose.

The Letter in Persuasion gets a ton of (well-deserved) admiration for its exquisitely romantic language, but one thing that I think gives it an extra emotional punch is the rhythm that Jane Austen created in its structure. I'm not sure if that is the right term, but let me try to explain.
The first seven sentences are very...flowy. When you read them, your inflection naturally goes up and down throughout. Even the two most famous sentences, while short, are still very poetic and metaphorical: "You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope."
And then she drops this as the eighth sentence:
"I have loved none but you."
It's like a boulder being dropped on you. It's solid and straightforward and strong. It takes your breath away for a second because it's such a contrast from the rhythm of what came right before it. There is nothing metaphorical about it; it is a blunt statement of fact whose meaning cannot be debated. And that's what makes it so beautifully powerful.
The entire Letter is gorgeous, but I think this very simple line and its relation to the rest of the structure of the Letter doesn't get as much attention as it deserves.

yanks moving to mexico "because they can't afford to (comfortably) live in the US anymore" while still getting paid in US dollars and fucking up the economy really gets to the heart of the Expat vs immigrant thing.
I'm not the most knowledgeable on it (I'm not in north america) but like from where I'm standing the incredibly tight control on the US-Mexico border really does seem to have that double use of making immigration to the US so difficult while letting yanks travel down to mexico for cheap drugs or medication or holidays or even housing while still having all the benefits of being a US Citizen with a US job paying in US dollars.
which i guess is pretty similar to how Australians treat south east asia as cheap tourist or medical destinations ("just go to thailand" for like beauty surgeries and stuff) meanwhile it's very difficult to get into Australia coming from those countries.

Potentially stupid question - does anyone know of any books in a similar style to LM Montgomery, but set in modern times? (Distinct from AUs of LMM set in modern times! I'm looking for original fiction here). I was musing today that I can't really think of any examples, something I find interesting in combination with the fact that most of LM Montgomery's novels were published contemporaneously. Part of the charm of the novels for me is the historical setting - it lends to the coziness - but that (supposedly) wouldn't have been the case for its contemporaneous readers, at least not in the same way. The world is perhaps a little more clinical nowadays, but I'd be curious to know if her type of writing could work in a reality with cell phones and social media. I know it could because it seems ridiculous to think otherwise...and yet I can't think of an example!

!!SPOILERS TO THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS: PILOT!!
Tbh I definitely feel like Kinger has some Trama or at least some history with abstracts from the possible people that abstracted while he had been there
He's clearly freaking out than he did the other times when abstracted Kaufmo showed up
Tumblr media
Along with the fact that he's constantly scared by just random people and very jumpy
Tumblr media
Also!!! Has been said to have "Supposedly been here the longest" so it would make sense for him to freak out if he's been here so long
Tumblr media
There's obviously been more people here before him and we can thank the doors for that!!!:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the only form or way we've seen people get basically thrown out of the Circus was to become Abstracted.
[ also another random thing to add that's a queen chess piece that's been crossed out that's the door literally right before Kinger's (not important to the theory thing but someone I wanted to add.)!! ]
It's also been shown there has definitely been people abstracted before Kaufmo:
Tumblr media
Look at all those eyes woah!!!!
Idk it just makes sense to me and I don't know if this is some obvious thing that I'm pointing out!!!

When is round 2 of the book club being planned for?
So the original plan was to wait until Overhaul 2.0 started releasing and then we would follow along with that, however! I've had a lot of people say that they were sad that they missed the first bookclub, and with how long Overhaul 2.0 will be (one chapter a week), I think doing an earlier one with the one volume a week format might be best.
I'm thinking two options: 1. We start late May to build up to the Dark Horse deluxe omnibuses hopefully starting to release in September. 2. We start in September to, y'know, start reading along with the omnibus releases (though we'll obviously be reading faster than that--tbh, I could theoretically run a round three leading up to the final volume coming out).
Shit kinda hit the fan in my life over the past few days (so much health garbage, house hunting is hell on planet earth, and my mom's cancer markers just shot back up after a couple years of remission), so I'm leaning toward starting in September. But if anyone else has any thoughts, definitely let me know! I fucking adore Trimax and legitimately would start bookclub the second tomorrow if I thought it was possible or a good idea

How do you think shisuis death would impact his s/o if he had one?
I don't really write answers like this, so I might not be very insightful in answering this ask. This is why it took me so long to reply. Still couldn't come up with something sufficient. :( Also I'm keeping it canon-compliant.
..
She wasn't expecting the news from anyone on this. Shisui had briefed her on what was going on. Yes, she's an Uchiha who didn't want coup either. She knew Shisui had a plan up his sleeve to counter the situation, but this was unexpected.
She tries to be normal about the situation, thinking of some way this could be a lie, because Shisui's body wasn't found. Surely he could still be alive?
It breaks her when Itachi confirms the truth. More so that he was there when Shisui committed suicide. Questions swarm in her hear — why couldn't Itachi save him? Why didn't he stop Shisui? She rains fists and punches on him and Itachi takes them wordlessly, until she collapses against him.
The days that follow are hard. Tears don't stop. She dreams of him night and day. He asks her to hold on, not give up, and stay strong. She screams she's trying but can't. When she wakes up, it's only her in the room.
She receives sympathy from her friends and family, and is warned against Itachi by her clan members. Shisui saw him as his little brother. His lover harbors the same feelings towards Itachi.
While no one else notices she sees Itachi is being isolated from everyone. Her own outburst the other day didn't help. She tries to think beyond her grief and makes an effort to talk to him after several months but knows how far gone Itachi is already. She knows Shisui would be heartbroken. Slowly, along with her lover, she ends up losing her friend who was so precious to Shisui.
On the night of the massacre, other than his parents there's one more person who understands Itachi's plight. She apologizes to him, not sure for what. Itachi doesn't look into her eyes. She tells him it's okay. "I'm going to be with him soon."
When sword is plunged into her heart, her last thought is Shisui behind her closed eyes. And when her eyes open next, Shisui is the one whose smile meets her eyes.
