My winter project is almost complete. I'm so excited to hit the road soon in my big ol box truck conversion. It's got everything I need for a home away from home. Now all I need is a travel partner or two..

Not to wade into Discourse on main, but I've seen several posts talking about how ridiculous it is that the Watcher HQ is in LA and how expensive that is. I just want to say, as someone who works in streaming, that it would be functionally impossible for me to do my job if I moved more than about an hour from where I am now because of how often I need to do immediate in-person things now that major streamers are back in-office. Note that "more than an hour away" would still be in LA. I have a coworker who lives that far from me and spends literal hours on the road.
I cannot imagine that Watcher is any different.

Living for the Grandma Mistystar designation because she's grandma in such a specific way. Like she's been around forever and goes on and on and we know and love her and she lived through The War™ and had a hard life, etc, but sometimes things come out of her mouth that make it VERY OBVIOUS that she attributes the horrors she lived through to a bad person, a bad group, as opposed to the culture in which she lives, and therefore doesn't really have the right takeaways. So there's grandma telling you stories and then she says some shit and it's like "Grandma Mistystar didn't you literally survive an attempted half-clan genocide. The fuck are you on about." But also she's old as hell and you know she loves you and you love her so you just sort of sit uncomfortably in her living room and drink your tea. Literally an old-ass woman who lived through hell and still votes Conservative. I'm obsessed with her.
The old grandma characters in BB have my entire soul. They've all been through AWFUL shit, they came so close to the right conclusions, you love them SO much but then they drop some shit that makes your skin crawl. What can you do with that?
You can see a bit of progress with cats like Mousefur, but even then, it's never in the exact way you were hoping for. It goes from, "foreigner Bad" to "Some foreigners Not bad." But progress is progress, right...?
It's a sort of hopeless feeling, but not strong enough to tip into despair. The world is changing and they're remnants of the old one. You have to fight them when they try to drag it back, but totally changing their person is an unwinnable battle.

"it takes a village to raise a child" is kind of an interesting saying. it isn't "it takes a family to raise a child," or "it takes a roster to raise a child," or even "it takes a lot of people to raise a child." it's specifically a village-- a group of people united by geographic circumstance alone.
inherently, the idea of a child raised in part by their community involves a child being raised in part by strangers. when you let your eight-year-old walk to the corner store to spend their allowance on a chocolate bar, they practice following traffic signals by copying the other people at the crosswalk. they learn that it's polite to smile when someone makes eye contact from all the grown-ups who smile as they walk by. they pet someone's service dog, and the owner stops them to explain why that's not okay, and that's their reminder to ask before they touch. they practice math with the teenager working the cash register, who tells them the difference between a nickel and a quarter and patiently picks through their fistful of change.
it takes a lot of trust to let your kid do this. in fact, I'll go a step further-- it takes a lot of faith. you are trusting that if your child screams, someone will come running. you are trusting that if they get lost, someone will walk them home. you are trusting that if they are vulnerable, nobody will take advantage of them-- and that if anyone tries to, someone else will interfere. and by and large, this faith is not misplaced. there's really no data in support of helicopter parenting. it doesn't lead to better long-term outcomes when you hyper-supervise your kid, and in fact, it often leads to far worse ones.

Junimir lore drop below
Vitimir and Juniper met -once- as kids. It was a quick encounter during IFWOT/HECK. Vit was backed into a corner getting bullied, but Juniper saw this and managed to deescalate the situation and get the other kid to leave. June decided to stick around Vit in case they came back. Being the shy kid that he is, Vitimir didn't say anything, just sitting awkwardly waiting until Terra announces the last challenge. But Juniper being a total chatterbox tries to start a conversation. They see that Vit doesn't have anything better to do, so they offer to paint his nails to break the silence. Vitimir of course too shy to say no, let's them do it. This small moment meant a lot to Vitimir as a kid. They never experienced an act of kindness like that from a stranger before. There was no love at first sight between them, it just started with a kid wanting to do something nice for someone else just because. It meant more to Vitimir than it did Juniper at the time. Vitimir still thinks of it to this day especially now that they're working alongside Juniper, but June doesn't realize Vit is the same kid from that day, so it's never brought up.

If you hate Magnolia who is slightly snooty but overall just nice to everyone she meets over Daisy I hate all women Haites just know I’m side eyeing you.
Characters of color always get hate for doing the same exact thing their praised white counter parts do😭
