#holy kingdom of faerghus weapon tradition

Text
I like to think giving a loved one a weapon is a Faerghus tradition. Parents will gift their children small weapons when they begin training such as a dagger. Then as they grow into their weapons another will be given to them as their weapon choice when they reach adulthood or if they bear a crest then they are given the family holy relic.
The gifting of a weapon started out as a symbol of protection of your family as you cut your way through life. This can also be given between friends or lovers. Special ceremonial, yet still functional, daggers were made to pass between man and wife on their wedding day.
Jeralt followed this tradition when he gifted Byleth the dagger she wears on her belt and in true Jeralt fashion he did not tell Byleth the symbolism. Byleth didn’t know this was an old tradition from her father’s birthplace nor did she ever know the symbolism between different ceremonial weapons.
Byleth may or may not have accidentally proposed to Dimitri when she found a ceremonial wedding dagger she thought he might like when she was shopping for weapons for her students.
Thank the goddess Jeralt was nearby to save the poor prince who looked three seconds away from combustion with how red his face was. Jeralt finally explained to his kid the symbolism of certian weapons in Faerghus.
Byleth regifted the dagger to Dimitri years later on their actual wedding day. She was right, he did like the dagger.

FE OC WEEK DAY 1: Introduction
Here is another FE3H OC I'm introducing for @fe-oc-week! (Though I won't be doing all the prompts with her).
Please note that English isn’t my first language!
❧Name: Maude Yuehua Blaiddyd (Maude means “mighty in battle” and Yuehua is from chinese “Yue”: moon and “Hua”: flower). Also known as Rong Yuehua and Maude Lescure.
❧Age : 25 years old in 747
❧Affiliation: Holy Kingdom of Faerghus
❧In short: A heroine of the War of the Eagle and Lion (yes, she's the "maiden of wind" from Ashe's book!). Maude was born in Dagda to a Faerghian father and a Dagdan mother. A powerful magician, she spent 8 years in Morfis, both as a student and a teacher. Longing to discover her father’s country, Maude traveled to Faerghus where she met Loog and the two fell deeply in love. Seeing Faerghus’ suffering under Adrestian rule, she joined his cause and fought bravely during the ensuing war. She later left her mark in history as Loog’s wife and co-ruler...and Dimitri's ancestress.
❧Apparence: Maude is 1m73 tall with a slender, athletic figure. Her dark hair is cut shoulder-length for practical reasons. She has a sweet oval face and slightly slanted dark brown eyes. Her nose is straight and regular. She has a noticeable scar on her forearm due to an accident when training with magic.
She mostly practical traveling clothes, with pants and a knee-length round collar vest, and a fur-trimmed coat to face the Faerghian winter. Her favorite colors are blue and green. When she arrived in Faerghus, she was still wearing a white garment under her clothes as she was mourning her mother and white is the color of mourning in Dagda. She always paints a blue or red flower on her forehead, between her eyebrows (like this) and likes mixing Faeghian and Dagdan elements in her clothing. Her mother's sword and her father's dagger are always by her side.
❧Theme song: “Shake it out”, Florence and the Machine
❧Her pinterest
❧Skills:
Strengths: Reason, sword, authority, brawling (budding talent)
Weaknesses: lance, axes, bows
Maude exhibited a gift for magic from a young age. Her stay in Morfis allowed her to develop her full potential. She knows rare spells and formulas. Upon her arrival in Faerghus, she teaches the local mages and her formations will later inflict important damage on the Adrestian troops.
She possesses tremendous magical power and the skills to use it adequately. Among Loog’s close allies, only Pan rivals her in terms of magical ability. As her nickname indicates, Maude has a natural affinity for wind magic and can summon powerful gusts or cutting wind blades. She also uses thunder spells, including Bolting.
With a taste for physical activity, Maude was taught martial arts and swordsmanship during her childhood. She neglected this discipline while in Morfis, but underwent rigorous military training with a former general before she departed for Faerghus. Maude is thus a fast and nimble swordswoman, using a traditional Dagdan Jian. She can also fight without weapons. Training with her new friends allows her to improve her skills in unarmed combat.
❧Personality:  Maude has a bright and energetic personality. She’s extremely sociable and can put even the most timid people at ease. As a teacher, she was patient and knew how to make difficult concepts understandable. She was thus well-liked by her students. She likes exercise, such as fencing, martial arts, running or games such as cuju and exploring new places.
She’s also hardworking, having reached her current level in magic with much perseverance and discipline. When she began studying in Morfis, she realized that she was lacking in some areas and promised to improve. She gives herself the means to reach her objectives.
Another major trait of hers is curiosity. Whether it concerns magic or the world’s mysteries, Maude thirsts for knowledge. Present her with a riddle and she will do her best to solve it. She has been dreaming for a long time of going on an adventure, sailing into the unknown. and discovering the other half of her origins.
This, however, caused her undoing. Maude was so hungry for knowledge that she was once overwhelmed and stayed in Morfis longer than she had planned. Because of that, she missed her mother’s funeral. Though traumatic, this even was a wake-up call and showed her how much Morfis had changed her. She had become so proud of her abilities that she wanted to see how far she could go and amass more power and knowledge. When thinking of this, she now feels guilty and tends to be harsh with herself.
She thus won't be led astray again and won’t waste time dreaming. Since she’s discovering the world, she’s still unaware of some realities but isn’t naive or blind and desires to face them. Clever and resourceful, she knows how to handle herself and analyzes new situations with a practical mind.
She also has a strong sense of justice and longs for a cause. When she discovers Faerghus' situation, she refuses to run away and stays to fight with her friends. She is very much aware of the dangers she faces but isn’t afraid of undertaking long and arduous journeys. Maude is merciless with her foes and doesn’t think twice before striking. During her first battle, she has no qualms about using Bolting on a pirate ship. She won’t let anyone cross her, be they family members.
Stay tuned for her backstory!

Different anon, I don't think the western church is in charge of the holy sites in the kingdom. i recall the holy sites are under the central church but it's in a nobles territory (not WC territory!) so anyone who wants to visit those sites would have to deal with that noble. the WC tried to claim/occupy the holy site where Cichol and Cethleans sacred weapons were held though (with violence) which forced the Central church to intervene.
Tbh I don't mind that the WC mainly wants to kill Rhea over differences in beliefs/practices (their intolerance vs Rheas tolerance) because we got ppl IRL being like that. even if it sounds dumb to us its pretty realistic. Adding more reasons for their behavior would be nice for lore though.
We know the Agarthans played a part in influencing them but I think they mainly weaponized the WCs xenophobia similar to how Cleobulus/Cornelia weaponizes Dimitri's step mothers desperate desire to see her daughter. I mean If there's a weakness that's already there then why not exploit it ?
Oh yeah, I know about the sites, I was trying to think of another reason why the WC would diss and/or hate the CC for something else than their xenophobia lol
I know it's dumb and we sadly have a lot of real life examples, but it's the traditional honeypotting situation, when there's a doubt or possible empty area in the lore/worldbuilding, the fan explanation is always more interesting than the more or less canon one lol
But it raises another set of issues, if the kingdom noble wants to, idk, raze Lake Teutates to make a giant golf course, what can the CoS do ? If the Kingdom wants to make Rhodos' coast a giant resort and sort of get rid of the weird monument there?
It's kind of odd how Rhea and the CC didn't push harder to gain some sort of "right" to administrate those sites, if Seteth went to rekt people during his paralogue for trying to steal and seize his wife's tomb, it's because those people were randos from the WC. But if they were mere Kingdom randoms?
And it makes the Adrestian NPC's comment (the one about wanting to seize the weapons the saints used bcs they feel like they belong to them) even more, uh, interesting in this context, the Kingdom could have stolen Cichol and Cethleann's weapons if they pillaged a tomb, but they didn't. The legend about the giant turtle handing a shiny bow? It's a mere legend, we don't have, say, Rodrigue, going to investigate this rumour to gather more weapons that could be "useful".
So even without taking into account Dimitri himself (as in, the only Lord who doesn't want to terminate Rhea for the lols or bcs pointy ears, except for that blunder in Zahras), Faerghus seems to be the closest "ally" the CoS has, even if being "allies" only means, before the events of the games, not pillaging their treasures and letting members of the Church visit places.
I can only imagine how the members of the WC would have reacted if Rhea was revealed not to be a human - since everyone worships angels but the second one pops up in front of them they pick their spears in this verse, Rhea turning into the IO would be warrant a death sentence from the members of the WC?
We will never know lol

ANON / sent : what's the story of byleth's knife? and has she ever used it?
Tumblr media
          ||. I like to hc that Byleth’s dagger is a gift from her father! He’s from the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus, where gifting daggers to loved ones is a common tradition. So I like to think that he gave it to her when she was young. Somewhere between the ages of 4-10. It was her first weapon (besides a baby sword) that was hers and hers alone. She did in fact use this dagger for a long time! But has since grown too big for it. It’s more of a decoration piece now, because it’s too small for her to properly handle. She can still use it in a pinch if she has to, though.
I’d like to think it was tailor made for her. Commissioned by her father to match the aesthetic of Sitri’s medallion. Like her, a perfect blend of human and dragon tradition. Even if Jeralt knew very little about nabatean culture at all.
Tumblr media
Side HC: the medallion that Byleth wears is one of the few heirlooms of Sitri’s that survived, and were passed down. it’s something Jeralt could easily manage to hold on to, and take with him during the night of the fire. and it would explain why Byleth, even so early on, has an article of clothing that is EXTREMELY nabatean on her person. The dagger matches the classic Nabatean gold/wing aesthetic. But sitri doesn’t seem the type to have had any use for daggers.          Not to mention: contrary to popular belief, I don’t actually think faerghus’ dagger-giving tradition is purely romantic. Or... even really coded as a romantic tradition. It seems to be more of a close friends + family situation + occasionally romantic tradition as far as i’ve ever read it??? Sylvain brings it up often when he’s teasing Dimitri about his “failed love life” as a child but ... that scenario was with Edelgard... who’s his step-sister. And they didn’t spend an awful lot of time together when they were unaware of that fact, so I doubt they were ever anything more than friends.
All that to say that Byleth’s dagger??? A small piece of Jeralt’s culture passed onto her in classic Faerghus tradition. Perfectly mixed with the golden aesthetic of her mother’s heritage.

-House Fraldarious is famous for leading women
-House Gautier is the only territory to never have one

-Rufus was lamberts only ligitiment sibling, but they had around 6 others
-The village Hapi came from isnt on any Faerghus map
-The 4 apostles are acknowledged by faerghus customs and religion but are generally not talked about
-Some families dont believe the apostles actually existed
-The crest of blaiddyd gives superior strength, but it also seems to have sever physchological effects if used too often
-Crest of Gautier represents death and is runored to be cursed becuase everyone who has weilded it either dies a gruesome death, or dies before they are 30
-Crest of Fraldarius also has side effects which influence emotions. It either increases the bearers emotions to unhealthy levels or it seems to sap them of emotions completely
-The crest of dominic doesnt have any confirmed side effects, but bearers always seems to have troubled family lives
-The crest of Charon is rumored to cause unhealthy amounts of loyalty in people
-The crests of Blaiddyd, Fraldarius, Gautier, Dominic, and Charon are the only crests that are truely considered 'Faerghan'
-The school of sorcery was created in hopes of expanding fearghus expertise, but it hosts more students from other nations/countries more often

Gushing About Dimitri’s Celtic Roots
// Don’t mind me, but the more I look into things, the more I notice a link between Dimitri and Celtic lore. And it makes me SO happy! As a Welsh woman, seeing all these Welsh and Irish (mostly) ties makes me so patriotic. It’s nice to see people see MORE than just England in Great Britain. I’ll cut it though, length reasons :)
Let’s start at the obvious stuff: BLAIDDYD. A WELSH word/name. Translations roughly into Wolf Lord. (blaidd = wolf. iudd = lord. Though Welsh tends to be ‘backwards’ when translated, so can be Lord Wolf.). Why this is awesome: It’s WEEEELSH! DATS ME! XD. The story of Bladud/Blaiddyd wasn’t taught to me in school, but he’s a fictional King (another link right there!).
AREADBHAR. Dimiri’s lance has the same name as the lance used by Lugh in IRISH mythology lore. Think the rough translation to English is ‘slaughter’.
FHIRDIAD. I’m convinced this is based on Ferdiad; a warrior in Irish mythology. The battle that killed Ferdiad included swords and LANCES. Bit of a stretch, but I still say that’s a bit of a link to why Fhirdiad children are more likely to know how to fight with weapons then they are to know how to read and write.
LOOG. Again, a stretch, but in my second point, I mentioned Lugh, the God that used Areadbhar. Lugh? Loog? Similar sounding names. Looking at the mostly Irish connections the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus has, I would not put it past them that Loog is based on the Irish Mythological God.
Speaking of FAERGHUS: no doubt based on Fergus, a Celtic name. (Irish/Scottish/Gaelic origins). An older, more traditional version of Fergus is Fearghus (literally just 2 letters away from the Kingdom). In old Gaelic, FEAR means ‘man’ and GUS meaning force or vigour. Backs up that the Kingdom was created/taken by strong men(/women).
And to TIE IT ALL UP weakly; Faerghus referencing to ‘strength’ in rough translations, guess what the Crest of Blaiddyd is all about. Strength.
RANDOM FUN ONE: The banner. So the Banner of the Kingdom has a soldier riding a Griffin. Which, as far as we know, aren’t a thing in Fodlan? Might need to look up on that one. BUT. Griffin is a fairly common surname in Ireland/Scotland/Wales (though in Wales we have Griffiths instead). That was extremely shit because griffins originated from Egypt I think I’m I’M CLINGING TO THREADS. I just think they liked the idea of the Kingdom LIONS and the Empire EAGLES being connected XD.
LAST RANDOM ONE that is extremely weak XD: The WEATHER. The Kingdom is portrayed as cold, snowy and having lengthy winters. Guess what countries also have that... Scotland. N.Ireland and North Wales get it fairly badly too. The Kingdom is literally described like its a Celtic land, in winter, at one of the castles. The Castle itself reminds me of Castell Coch.....but bigger.

LITTLE CHARACTER THINGS
just a fun little character game. fill in the below categories with 3-5 things that your character can be identified by.  repost & tag away!
TAGGED BY - this has been sitting in my drafts forever but now it’s out  TAGGING - YOUUUUU
Tumblr media
EMOTIONS / FEELINGS:
I. Emotional facade; the prince of Faerghus chooses to present himself with a kind smile, though a shade of sorrow that looms over him after experiencing numerous tragedies II. Guilt; as the sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, the young prince carries much remorse on his shoulders, often wondering if he deserved to live or how best to give his life meaning  III. Anger; he comes to the academy with the intention of seeking revenge ;; anger is among the many emotions he feels post-Duscur, yet it is one that overwhelms and overrides the others IV. Hopeful; despite the life he has lived, the young prince still looks to the future with hope-- towards to a time where he will properly be of service as King of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus V.  Contentment;  surrounded by the company of his companions, the young prince can find moments of happiness and contentment in between times of rest and relief
GREETINGS:
I. A deep bow as is customary for those in nobility and in court II. A polite nod as to acknowledge your presence in the conversation and room III. " AH , ______” IV. A low growl warning you not to step any closer V. Straightens his back and a tight grip on his lance -- an almost defensive position
COLORS:
I. Royal Blue  II. Rusted Gold III. Grayish Black  IV. Velvet Red
SCENTS:
I. Lilies and Violets; from quite perfumes, pressed to his wrists and behind his ears II. Lavender; as someone has one told him that the scent calms the mind III. Sweat and Sun; from a full day in the training grounds or battlefield IV. Petrichor; especially so during the five years he spent in the wild and alone V. Ink and Pounce;  it especially grips his hands after a long day of doing paperwork
CLOTHING:
I: A cloak;  often lined with fur due to the harsh weathers of the Kingdom and of the shade of blue as it is the color associated with nobility in Faerghus II: Gauntlets or Gloves, for it would seem that the young prince rarely lets anyone see his scarred hands or feel his bare touch  IV: Armor; whether it merely be wearing a breastplate or plackart, his highness feels less vulnerable when wearing a piece of metal or steel
OBJECTS:
I: Adreadbhar; the relic passed down from generation to generation of the Blaiddyd line. The young prince keeps it close to him as the last surviving member of his father’s name  II: Lance; though his family’s relic is a mighty enough weapon in itself, the prince prefers wielding a regular lance least the holy relic break in his hands due to overuse.  III: Dagger; a gift his father was supposed to pass to him before starting his academic year in Garreg Mach as a reminder that he must cut his own path.  IV: Needle and Thread; though the prince swears up he is no good with delicate matters, he has some basic understanding of mending tattered clothes or  even suture a wound if needed  V: The Blaiddyd flag; during the five years without a kingdom or a claim to the throne, the young prince created a makeshift cloak out of a velvet banner of his family as a way to honor his house and mourn how far they’ve fallen.
VICES / BAD HABITS:
I. Insomniac ; often has trouble sleeping and is wakened by nightmares -- though he would much rather prefer to wait out the night rather than try return to sleep  II.  Reckless ; rushes into situations without much thought or regard to safety, especially if someone or something is on the line  III. Emotion-driven ; though his emotions does bring out the best in him -- empathy, forgiveness, understanding -- it also clouds his judgement if forced to ruminate on such feelings IV. A false sense of vulnerability ; the prince is willing to  share experiences and traumas, though it is an unknowing facade of him pretending to understanding his trauma  V. Repression ; though he extends his offer of help to all his allies, the prince would be damned if anyone dare help him or see
BODY LANGUAGE:
I. Shoulders pulled back and spine straightened; the posture taught into him as noble. There is a stiffness and rigidity to it if it weren’t for the fact he was used to holding such a stance while carrying on normal conversations II. Attentively leaning towards their conversation partner, as if holding on to every word they speak and savoring their personal company ( which can sometimes difficult to keep as his roles as ‘ house leader ‘ and ‘ prince ‘  often intimidate others ) III. Massaging or flexing his forearm to alleviate the heavy feeling; it is wear he feels the strain and surge of his crest after an exhaustive fight.  IV. Crouching like a wounded animal ready to strike; during the war, he loses his traditional fighting stance that was once more open. Now he slouches and cowers as if to protect a heart that will not hold
AESTHETICS:
I. Paintings hanging wall to wall with images of kings and queens of old II. Cloaks and fur pelts too big for the owner yet still warm and inviting III. An abandoned cathedral -- from the echoes to the moss growing between the cracks IV. Rough and calloused hands hiding behind silk gloves V. Clumsy mending of tattered garments and accessories    *VI Memories that read like a snowglobe -- fuzzy, vague, yet ultimately familiar and safe
SONGS:
I. Revenge, and a Little Bit More - Unlike Pluto II. So Cold - Breaking Benjamin  III. Running Up That Hill - Placebo  IV. Stay, I Pray You - Anastasia the Musical  V. Here Comes the King ( extended ) - X-Ray Dog

— skills analysis.
so i did one of these for sety, though i didn’t cover all of the available skills on him because i haven’t had the time to build all that hc yet. even though we know felix’s skill layout, i’d still like to take the time to lay out my ideas about his abilities or lack thereof in greater detail. essentially just putting down on paper the thoughts i’ve had for a while, for my own safekeeping. things get jumbled in my head sometimes y’know.
buckle in, this got really long.
sword ( boon. )
lance
axe
bow ( boon. )
gauntlet ( boon. )
reason ( bane. | budding talent. » boon. )
faith
authority ( bane. )
heavy armor
riding
flying
— sword. felix, obviously, loves swords. it’s interesting to consider how he takes so strongly to swords when the kingdom mostly specializes in lances. from dimitri’s supports, however, we know that everyone still receives sword training, and i’d argue that learning to wield a sword is the most basic weapon that everyone is taught before moving onto lances, or other weapons types as desired. we see evidence of this in felix’s remarks which point to dimitri still training with a sword despite the lance being his main weapon:
Hurry up and cage the wild boar. Look, he’s losing his grip. Even in his swordplay, he’s getting sloppy.
so the sword is kind of like weapons basics, much like learning basic piano even as a singer so that you can find your notes for yourself. though i believe felix received training in other weapons growing up, he always came back to the sword when others may have transitioned into favoring something else. give him a lance or axe and he’d know the form and some basic techniques ( see: blacksmith’s errand ), but he’s no expert.
in his favoritism for the sword, i think people have probably commented that he resembles kyphon, who was known for wielding a blade rather than faerghus’ usual lance as well.
— lance & axe. briefly touched on above, but he knows the basics, lances more so than axes because the lance is pretty much faerghus’ thing. a lot of his experience with lance technique at least in recent years actually comes more from countless sparring matches against his friends who prefer them, especially sylvain, who, unlike dimitri and ingrid, doesn’t favor swords at all ( thanks azzie for confirming this! ) felix, who learns much better by doing and practical experience, has subconsciously picked up stuff about lances just from watching and fighting constantly around those who use them.
axes, though he doesn’t mention them ( as far as i’ve found, anyway ), he’s probably also been trained in, again going along with my hc that faerghus nobles get the basics in pretty much everything at a young age. however, he gravitated away from it pretty early due to its style — slow and heavy — being the exact opposite of how he prefers to fight. he finds them generally unwieldy, especially when he doesn’t like the bulkiness of wearing heavy plate that usually comes along with using them. that being said, he’s not bad at axes ( hence it not being a bane ) — it’s felix; the nature of his upbringing and genetics means he’s likely not going to suck at any physical weapon — but he’ll pass on them if there’s anything else to use.
— bow. felix’s bow boon comes straight off his instruction request to specialize towards sniper class:
As with the sword, I was trained in the bow from a young age. I have a good grasp of it, but there’s always room for improvement. Might be a good time to work on my aim.
again, i think part of this comes from my idea of faerghus nobles being trained in all weapons ( or maybe it’s just a fraldarius tradition? felix says it’s everyone, but considering his skewed view of kingdom attitudes, it’s reasonable to also take his words with a grain of salt ). but part of it i think also comes from hunting as a common noble pastime in the kingdom: felix talks about it, as well as dimitri when he mentions that rodrigue would frequently take him hunting. and the bow, of course, is the primary weapon used in hunting, hence his receiving training in it from childhood.
his talent in it, i think, comes from repeated practice and his passion for hunting, which as we know is one of his likes. right out of the box, felix wasn’t born with a natural gift for archery like he was the sword, but his love of hunting as a sport had him continuously training and refining his skill with a bow.
— gauntlet. this one’s pretty easy: it points to felix’s self-made fighting style that throws aside conventional chivalric combat expectations in favor of whatever needs to be done in order to win, even if it means resorting to “underhanded” tricks or cheap shots.
Knights ought to have some hunger. I’ve always thought so. They depend too much on their swords. Only when they’re wrested away do knights consider their hands and feet as weapons. That’s not how it was for warriors of old. They weren’t limited by their tools. Victory is what matters, not the method of achieving it. That’s the attitude to adopt.
i think the incorporation of hand-to-hand combat is actually something he first picked up from glenn, who, while knightly, wasn’t afraid to land a punch in the middle of a spar to stun his opponent or trip them to gain the upper hand. he constantly encouraged felix to be similarly adaptable in battle, to never get comfortable with the status quo, always be thinking on his feet.
over time, that, along with pieces of technique he picked up and continues to pick up from others over the years, got refined into what is now his own unique fighting style, tailored just for himself.
— reason. so i’ve thought a lot about this, and i’ve come to the conclusion that felix’s bane in reason is not because he’s bad at magic, but because he, as he tells us, has no interest in it. ( we’ve all had that one subject in school where we have a knack for it, but just... no interest LMAO. )
coming off of my headcanon that felix’s mother comes from a branch of house gloucester, this means that strong magic genetics are in his blood ( gloucester was the bishop of the ten elites ). rodrigue also has a high talent for magic ( he’s a holy knight, but in my experience with him as an NPC, he tends to favor his faith spells over using his lance, which has led me to headcanon that he’s actually stronger in magic than he is in physical weapons. bishop » holy knight instead of paladin » holy knight, if you will ).
combined, this means that i think both glenn and felix had a natural talent for magic — glenn 100% a dark knight — which becomes reflected when felix is convinced to actually put the effort into studying reason, thus revealing it to be a boon.
i think this is supported in-game in that, despite it being a boon for him, felix only ever learns two reason spells: thunder and thoron. unsurprisingly, they are both spells with high damage and crit potential, and give him range options. thoron supplements his swordplay nicely by giving him yet more range, thus opening up more opportunities for him to close the gap to his enemies and kill. seeing as he only picks up reason for the purpose of augmenting his swordmanship:
I have never been interested in magic, but I do recognize that a swordsman who understands it has an advantage over one who doesn’t. Help me hone my skills in reason, in addition to the sword.
it makes sense that he would stop after learning enough spells to accomplish his purpose for studying reason in the first place. he’s still not very interested in magic, but he does take to it surprisingly well.
— faith. felix is not particularly religious, but he’s not disdainful of religion either. however, both rodrigue and glenn, in my hc, had boons in faith magic and were very strong in it. felix’s lack of strength here i believe comes again from disinterest, as well as the fact that he’s probably just never tried it. he doesn’t really see a reason to. i don’t think he has the natural talent for it that glenn and especially his father do — that gift for it skipped him — but he’d be able to cast as well as the next person if he put work into it.
a worthwhile note to make here is that, whereas rodrigue’s faith spell list focuses on offensive magic ( his main spell in-game is aura, and i hc that if he were playable, the rest of his spell list would be similar: nosferatu, seraphim, abraxas ) and i hc that glenn’s faith spell list is similarly offensive-focused, felix’s in-game faith spell list is entirely restorative magic. aside from nosferatu, but pretty much everyone who learns a faith spell gets nosferatu.
felix gets heal, restore, and recover, which i intend to remain faithful ( heh ) to if i have felix take points in faith. and while at first glance this may seem contrary to his ‘ all fight all the time ’ nature, i think it actually subtly points to his underlying motivation for pursuing strength: being able to protect those he cares about. felix’s biggest motivator is being strong enough to make sure that he doesn’t lose anyone again like he did glenn, and killing enemies isn’t always going to cut it. as he grows to realize that ( hello dimitri and toa!sylvain development showing him that fighting something doesn’t always solve the problem ), he develops an appreciation for healing, too.
— authority. felix’s, for lack of a better phrase, one actual weakness that stems from a detriment in ability, at least where skills are concerned. as the game tells us through his personal skill, it comes from a lack of desire to work with others. he doesn’t like to be responsible for other people, doesn’t like to have to worry about other people, and doesn’t like to have to rely on other people. felix highly prizes his independence and his self-reliance. he believes he’s stronger when he’s on his own.
i think that felix is also just, for this reason, bad at leading people. ( see: birds of a feather. ) he doesn’t have the patience for it, and doesn’t have the patience for other people’s incompetence, doesn’t like to repeat himself or explain his thoughts and ideas. if people get him, great. if they don’t, he doesn’t really care.
interestingly, despite his glaring weaknesses in charisma and diplomacy ( which carry over into when he becomes duke, too — his people respect him as a leader because he naturally wants to do what’s best for the people under him; his policies are very domestically-focused and he’s going to fight hard for the interests of those counting on him, but not because he’s particularly good at raising morale or rallying public support ), felix isn’t bad at the strategic part of being a military leader. in fact, his ingrid support tells us he’s surprisingly good at military tactics for someone who has 0 interest in strategic planning:
Ingrid: Well, the conversation got quite lively. We all began breaking down the viability of your somewhat maniacal plan. And apparently, similar tactics have been used to turn the tides of historic battles. Felix: That may be an exaggeration. Successful armies must be able to handle unexpected situations. That starts with weapon mastery and creative tactics. Ingrid: If you didn't have so much battlefield experience, you wouldn't be capable of such unique strategies. Which is why we need people like you—people who think creatively—to lead the army.
this is further supported by the fact that, in his paired ending with dimitri, he takes a leading role as dimitri’s military adviser when he becomes king. felix is good at knowing what to do on the battlefield; he just doesn’t have any interest in being in charge of that stuff. as he says ( possibly the only time in canon we see felix being modest about his abilities ):
I don’t know the first thing about strategy. Just how to use a sword.
— heavy armor. touched on this a bit earlier in the axe section, but heavy armor isn’t felix’s thing because agility and mobility is. the most armor you’ll see him wear is a heart guard, though i do headcanon that in the post-war period as duke, he actually does wear a jack-of-plate to protect from any unforeseen attempts on his life.
the only exception to his aversion to heavy armor are shields, which he of course learns how to use in order to wield the aegis shield. in toa!verse, i plan to fluff shields as his narrative progression through the heavy armor ranks rather than through actually... wearing armor ( though i think he definitely sometimes trains rock lee style with weights in order to improve his speed ). hilariously, this goes somewhat out the window in the end when he does actually wield the aegis shield into battle because half the time, he just wears it slung over his back ( as seen in his in-game battle model ) rather than how a shield is supposed to be used. the aegis shield is mostly used for its pavise / aegis barriers anyway, and not as much to deflect actual attacks.
— riding. doesn’t mind it, but has never gravitated to it or had much interest. despite both rodrigue and glenn being mounted units ( rodrigue moreso; he’s better on a horse than he is on foot ), felix prefers being on foot, relying on solely his own skill and temperament, rather than having to account for what his mount might do at any given moment and protecting it as well. he has nothing particularly against horses; just, lukewarm.
— flying. much like riding, felix is equally ambivalent about pegasi and being on one. there are a couple differences here though: one is that i headcanon that heights make felix..... not afraid? but slightly uncomfortable. he doesn’t have a phobia of heights, but the inherent danger of being high up in the air, the possibility of death simply by nothing more than a fall, doesn’t sit well with him. it’s something he’d be able to get more comfortable with over time, though.
the other difference is that pegasus knighthood is inherent to his bloodline. the original fraldarius was a falcon knight, and i headcanon that kyphon was also a falcon knight ( take that, gender-locked fe classes! ). if not for his ambivalence about mounts — unlike many others who like to bond with their mounts and form deep friendships, i think that felix would probably always see his as animals of war: to be well-cared for, of course, but probably not like, deep bond or anything — and his discomfort with heights, flying might have been a strength through his bloodline alone, particularly with him having a major crest.

HECTOR AND ELIWOOD: THREE HOUSES VERSE (PRE-TIMESKIP EDITION!)
COUPLE OF RULES THAT I ALWAYS PUT ON MYSELF WHEN I’M ADAPTING A CHARACTER INTO A NEW VERSE:
THEY WILL NEVER SIGNIFICANTLY ALTER THE MAIN PLOT
THEY ARE AN ADDITION TO THE MAIN STORY, AND ARE NOT MEANT TO BE INTRUSIVE IN ANY WAY!
THEY ARE NOT THE MAIN PROTAGONISTS ANY LONGER SO THEY WILL NOT OVER POWER THE ACTUAL PROTAGONISTS AND STEAL THE SPOTLIGHT!
WHILE I BELIEVE THEIR OWN WORLD IS VERY INTEGRAL TO THEIR CHARACTER, I WILL ALSO HAVE TO ALTER THEIR BELIEFS BASED ON THE NEW LORE PRESENTED (AKA Durandal and Armads are not the main super weapons that they are in the Blazing Blade, etc)
With all that out of the way, let’s get this started!
HECTOR: VOLTAIC GENERAL
Tumblr media
His full name is Hector von Ostia. As his last name states, he hails from Ostia, a reconquered piece of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus now under the Adrestian Empire. As such, Ostia is located near the border of the two countries. A Noble by birth, his demeanour is anything but. Hector is loud, meat headed and a brute by nature. Hector usually doesn’t express much of his vulnerable side. Rather, he finds himself unable to open up to anyone about his feelings easily. The Ostian Noble often finds himself repressing his emotion and lashing out in anger instead, failing to notice that he usually isn’t angry at someone but he is angry with himself.
His fighting style is inelegant, often relying on brute strength to get the job done. The current head of his family, his brother Uther, sends him to the officer’s academy to straighten up his act. Unknown to Hector, Uther is currently suffering from illness and will die within the coming years. Knowing that his best friend, Eliwood, will also be attending, he willingly goes to the Officer’s Academy to continue their tradition  of bi-monthly duels.
As a student, he focuses his strengths on axe, brawl and armour. Though he seems to have some budding talent with the sword... big swords in particular. He has a particular weakness on anything magical related. Though, when his reason is grown, he is shown to have affinity for Thunder magic. He has a personal weapon, Wolf Beil an axe which has a particularly good affinity against armoured enemies.
Hector is part of the Black Eagles house and isn’t particularly loyal to the Empire. He values his family and friends above all else and will come running to help should you never need his assistance, and will go above and beyond for someone else’s cause as long as they are his friend or family.
ELIWOOD: BLAZING PALADIN
Tumblr media
Eliwood Richard Pherae hails from the Holy Kingdom of Farghus. Pherae is located near the border of Farghus and the Empire. Eliwood is what you would call the very essence of nobility. Kind, loyal and lion-hearted. When it comes to seeing a person in need, whoever it may be, he cannot help but to lend a hand... as foolish as it may seem at times. This has often landed him in trouble as his land borders the empire and kingdom, international disputes are no stranger to him. Emotionally speaking, Eliwood is extremely strong as he puts duty first and has a strong sense of justice... but is willing to do anything he has to to achieve his goals.
As a child, he and Hector met and formed a blood pact by splitting open their own hands. Childish, but it was friendship that would last a lifetime. However short that may turn out to be. Eliwood is slated to eventually become the marquess of Pherae, and so attends the officer’s academy on his own volition to train under Foadlan’s best.
As a student, Eliwood is adept with the sword, lance, and has a particular knack for riding, as well as authority. And it seems his gentle nature lends itself well for flying mounts as well if trained enough. Though, like Hector, he has a particular weakness for reason magic. But if trained, he has the potential to unlock Fire. He has a particular knack for rapiers, and is extremely skilled in his weapon handling in contrast to Hector, who prefers brute strength. Overall, Eliwood is a balanced student without much fault or stand-out qualities.
The Pherae heir is naturally part of the Blue Lions and is quite sociable with everyone in the school. Though; when it comes to matters of love, he has a particular tendency to fumble his words around instead of the sweet words he intended to come out. Eliwood is a loyal friend who will lead an army to victory, sword in hand, despite not having much talent for fighting in the front lines. He is there to set an example to his troops. And will not go down so easily.

MARRIAGE and RELATIONSHIPS  in Faerghus
Tumblr media
( these are my two cents on the how these two ideas are perceived in Faerghus, but I’m open to discussion with anyone and criticism from who wants to talk !! )
In the Holy Kingdom, marriage and relationships ( and consequently, gender and sexuality ) are heavily affected by Faerghus’ adherence to old traditions that require the preservation of crest lines. While there is no law or stigma against unions of any kind ( because if the Archbishop says they want to marry someone of the same gender, who are they to say they’re wrong as followers of the Church ), there is a preference for marriages that lead to carrying on the bloodline -- at least, within the nobility. Though those with a lower status aren’t required to marry and forge relationships based on lineage, the ideologies of the nobility often trickle down to them ( see under the people who view crests as a means to title and power aka the people Sylvain is rightfully apprehensive about but takes his caution to a generalizing extreme )
Despite this, within the Kingdom there is a culture of exalting relationships that are formed for the sake of pure intimacy -- a love with no strings attached. Think Loog and Kyphon or Loog and the Maiden of the Wind, in which their relationship with the King of Lions was not one of gain or producing an heir, but out of selflessness and actual affection. This exaltation with its themes of loyalty and camaraderie really speak toFaerghus as it can be used as a tool to teach unity and fidelity to the knights’ fellow sisters/brothers-in-arms ( think Ancient Greece ala Achilles and Patroclus etc. ). However, at the end of the day, Loog still ended up marrying in order to preserve the Blaiddyd bloodline.
Dimitri has seen first hand how the old traditions about the preservations of crests have ruined lives and families -- with Miklan and his Uncle being one of those denied of not only their birthright, but their position in the family. He has stated in-game that he wishes for one’s merit NOT to be measured by their status or crest, and labors to dismantle such ideologies for the rest of his reign. However, to appease the old nobles ( and get on their good side in order approve his other policies and ideas ) he will probably still take to a marriage that will preserve his bloodline ( this is verse-dependent with my Dima ). As the ruling family, Blaiddyd will probably be the last house to forgo the notion of needing a crest-bearing heir.
Also to add ( because I didn’t know where to insert this but was still relevant ), in terms of gender roles caused by this perception of marriage...There isn’t necessarily a too strict or rigid designation of what one can and cannot do due to their gender because everyone in Faerghus ~*~*~*~ is EQUALLY raised with a weapon in hand  and expected to fight before they learn to read ~*~*~* When there is peacetime to have and raise a child, then there is more discussions of the expectations / roles of parents, for now, ain’t nobody got time for that.

On the topic of “revised history”, I remembered I heard during some class at uni something about origo gentis being used as a corner stone to create a national identity, and of couse thought about some bullshit regarding FE16 :
Warning : serious nonsensical bullshit under the cut
basically, origo gentis are epic chronicles that are actually a load of historical bullcrap but they paint “your ancestors” in a superb good light with dubious genealogy stuff to make sure that you will be proud to be a part of your gent because your gent is so awesome and descends from enlightned people who aren’t alive anymore :’( or to legitimize a conquest (Wilhelm the Conqueror wasn’t some douchebag from Normandy wanting to be famous, he was actually mandated by an old celtic/britton (?) king to help him defend against those barbarian saxons! So of course he’s totally legitimate!)
And that is how, in the 8th century some guys, using a fanfiction written in the 6th by Gregory of Tours, came to the conclusion that Franks were actually the descendants of Trojan refugees who founded Sicambria in Hungary and Franks weren’t germanic barbarians, nope m8, they (we) totally were descendants from the advanced and refined greek civilisation.
So of course one would be proud to be Frank, leading one of the basis of some sort of Frank identity while also reclaiming some greek/roman heritage because everyone had a hard-on for ancient Rome back in the days.
With that being said,
Fodlan AU : Liber Historiae Faergusum (apologies for pig latin i didn’t play a lot of Square Enix games when i was younger)
thank @ultrakatua for launching me on the general vagueness in the game about Seiros’ descendants
After Loog got rid random Adrestian Emperor and managed to get his independance, the Faergusians thought they needed something else than Archbishop Rheond (rhea with a blond wig)’s approval, especially to create a true Faergusian culture and not just be known around as “those barbarians in the north”.
Pan said to slender Adrestia saying it was ruled by shapeshifting beasts hiding in the light, but Kyphon got rid of Pan.
Still, they had to find a reason to explain why they removed themselves from Saint Seiros’ Empire, given how Seiros is the mythical hero of the era and Blaiddyd was just one of her randoms, a mere Elite, of course everyone would prefer to be a part of the Empire blessed by Seiros, more advanced, than part of the Kingdom, now blessed by the Church, but hey, Archbishop Rheond’s blessing isn’t on par with Seiros’. Also, the Emperors descend from Seiros herself, a Saint. Loog is only one of Blaiddyd’s descendants, it isn’t as prestigious.
One of Dominic’s descendants then thought about writing an origo gentis for Faergus. He founded a special order composed of theologists and philosophers which came to be later reknown around the continent for its intellectual tradition (it became an obligation for every member of House Dominic to attend the Magical Academy because Dominic = savants in Faergus). The members of the Western Church were also involved in the Dominician Order - Central Church told them not to interfere with political matters but the members of the Western Church retorked that Seiros herself participated to the creation of the Empire, so they’re doing the same thing here.
Rhea raided a secret cache of chamomile after receiving that answer
What they came with was :
Just before marching to his last battle, Emperor Wilhelm and Saint Seiros had another son - Lycaon’s brother. Since that new son was second, he was not in line for the throne.
The war ended, but Lycaon was assassinated. Lycaon had no surviving male heir, so the throne should have passed to his younger brother
the male heir picked by the Empire wasn’t actually Lycaon’s child, but a bastard fathered by a member of the senate, the Emperor always had doubts about his son’s parentage but no one found his will, only his “treacherous” wife assisted to his death
The Senate tried to use this position to get rid of Great Emperor’s Wilhelm’s line and seize control of Adrestia ; Second son was sent to the northern limes to protect the empire from the barbarians of Sreng and also maintain peace
Meanwhile, in Adrestia, Lycaon’s not child had a son with one of his Lycaon’s I daughter, eww incest, so the Adrestian line is completely rotten but they managed to keep a Crest of Seiros
technically it would not be incest if Lycaon’s son wasn’t really his, but the Western Church then theologised something about milk-siblings being like full-blooded siblings if they shared the same wet-nurse and of course they did
plus if you acknowledge that Lycaon had no son his daughter couldn’t produce and Emperor or a new Imperial line because she was a woman and male primogeniture was trendy/and useful here so it became part of the Western Church’s dogma of that time.
Second son was doing such a splendid job that everyone rallied behind him as the true Emperor of Adrestia, but he did not want to start a new war in the already recovering Fodlan, so he remained in the North (of course, the actual Faergus).
He founded Firdiad and married Blaiddyd’s last daughter
Blaiddyd’s line is actually the one who should rule over Adrestia
which made Pan return a few decades later saying they should totally war against the Empire to recover their birthright and slaughter the Archbishop for some reason
Kyphon’s great grandson kicked Pan away again
But Adrestia became decadent and rotten to the core, only seeking their own enrichment and their own pleasure instead of “defending the people” like Seiros herself would have done had she not died in mysterious circumstances
Loog had actually all authority, lineage and spiritual, to have founded the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and Adrestia sucks - we Faergusians are the real descendants of the heroes who won against Nemesis, not those decadent people of Adrestia!
This bullshit was believed for around 200 years (to Rhea’s chagrin, she nearly emptied her secret marijuana stash but young!Jeralt made her reconsider the idea of being stoned for the next 300 years) until Margrave Gautier of this era said fuck, why should we hail the fact that we come from the Empire, we won our independance with weapons, strength and bravery from Loog, it is him who should be hailed as a hero, not the fact that he descends from Great Emperor Wilhelm.
Everyone was okay with dropping the origo gentis, save for the Western Church who came to believe it, because hey, they supported the real Seiros line, unlike those losers from the Central church who were supporting the Empire - they should be the ones calling the shots!
(but no one cared about them, save for Pan who mysteriously returned and began slithering around “yes the central church sucks, you should kill the Archbishop”)
Sadly, the fact that they dropped the Adrestian narrative had been a stone in the creation of the Leicester Alliance - who pretty much adored and loved the glorious history of Adrestia and tried to replicate it, instead of embracing the Kinngdom’s more martial values.
Rhea was overjoyed when the mention of her supposed child disappeared from history, only to be revived by Seteth when he returned 20 years before the beginning of the game, politely asking her what the fuck
they both had chamomile
