Holiday Blues with Tumblr
The mornings are getting darker. The evenings are, too. It’s a little chillier, don't you think? Well, if you start feeling a little blue around the holidays, we might have something for you. We call it Holiday Blues, and it’s back for 2023.
You probably know the score by now. If you don’t, here’s a little intro to make your acquaintance. We are partnering with social good brands, mental health experts, and mindfulness aficionados to bring you the essential winter toolkit—and help you thrive during the darker months. Enough is happening right now to feel overwhelmed without these LONG, drawn-out days. If you suffer from S.A.D. (AKA seasonal depression) or struggle to offer yourself the right self-care, Tumblr and friends are bringing these small acts of nourishment straight to you. It takes very little time, very little energy, and doesn’t cost a thing.
How does it work? Easy-peasy. If you turn up, we will look after you. Over the coming weeks, we have classes tailor-made for TLC: space meditations, movement, music, and self-care.
What’s happening?
Mindful Mondays: Out-of-this-world mindfulness session for a calming start to your week with @nasa.
Wellness Wednesdays: Mood-boosting quizzes from @kokobot, playlists, and tips.
Flex Friday: A five-part series on tenderness with Indwell Collaborative.
Self-Care Sunday: Reflections on affirmations, trust, friendship, and a focus on mental wellness with @therapyforblackgirls.
Some tips:
SHOW UP! And we’ll take it from there.
No stress necessary. Leave your worries at the door
Make time for YOU! There’s always time for some self-love.
It’s YOUR healing journey, and you do it your way.
One final note:
Like, share, be there. It’s all good vibes, and it’s for everyone on Tumblr. Help us beat the holiday blues by using #holidayblueswithtumblr, and share Monday’s meditations, a tip or trick from Wellness Wednesday, the feel-good from Flex Friday, or some soothing soul nourishment from Self-Care Sunday.

Monday, November 27.
Holiday Blues 2023.
It's not just November, nay, it's nearly December. The mornings are getting darker. The evenings are, too, and it's only getting chillier. The holidays approach, as the holidays are wont to do. And we know that this is not good news for everybody. In fact, the seasonal affective disorder (S.A.D.) struggle is real, and if you're finding these first days of winter difficult, you're not alone. Far from it, in fact.
Well, fancy that. If you suffer from holiday blues, we've got one or two things that might be of help to you. It's Holiday Blues, from @postitforward, and it's back for 2023.

hi loves 🤍
so more of a sappy post today, ft me post-sob after (no i hate this word's connotations but indeed i was) praying.
I don’t pray often, if ever - which is also very strange considering I am a spiritual person. But I have been taking a lot of inspiration from works and art focusing on spiritual health and wellness and think it’s just as important as physical and mental wellness. ☀️
So, I tried to pray.
And I chose an ancestor prayer, and I found a 432Hz meditation audio, and I spoke aloud to the ones I wanted to speak to.
It was an extremely emotional process for me, which tells me I had been holding in a lot. A lot of grief I hadn’t fully processed and a lot of lose ends I never got to tie up.
I think spirituality can look different for everyone. Some people find spirituality in religion, and some don’t. It can also range from believing in God(s) to believing that there is something beyond us that we cannot fully understand, but that we can find ways to tap into and find fullness from.
It’s also worth recognizing that “spirituality” carries so many connotations from it, from Karen in her lululemons ready for her Thursday morning yoga, also Karen with her crystals and costar, or Headspace 10-minute morning meditation - to the very real history and implications of religious trauma, colonialism, capitalism, appropriation of Black and indigenous spiritual ideologies and practices, and the church. I believe all of this - including your ethics, your values, your goals, and your own ancestral line - should stay central when you decide how to go about your practice.
I personally find a lot of my spirituality coming from my relationship with the environment and my gardening practices, my grandma and her teachings, practices of traditional medicine that saved my life, my dreams, yoga, and meditation. I am working to be more open to energy sources and understanding my energy, astrology and menstruation, breathwork, vagus nerve stimulation, body and intuition awareness, witchcraft, and humility in knowing that I cannot comprehend existence.
(Somehow this all feels like it keeps coming back to #horsepinko because now I am thinking of quantum tunneling again. Peep my last post lol.)
Anyway, I am going to list some books, resources, and ideas below that may inspire you if you might also want to look more into your spiritual wellness or just explore what that might be for you.
• Book: The Web of Meaning, Jeremy Lent
• Book: The Body Keeps the Score, Bessel Van Der Kolk
• Book: The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz
• Podcast: "Where does your spirituality come from? Learning how to support our indigenous healers" ft Asha Frost, by Spiritual Shit
• Podcast: "Inner Work: A Spiritual Growth Podcast," Josephine Hardman
• Podcast: "Indigo and Liberating Black Spirituality with Queen Quet" - Black History Year by PushBlack
• Podcast: "White Spiritual Women: We are all racist," Hunting for Purpose Podcast (also see Layla F. Saad on this topic)
• Chakra audios (YouTube and Spotify great sources) also theta waves
Please drop a few sources (or your favorites!) if you have any 🤍
Wishing you some solace in this and good luck on your journey. x

Wellness partnership with @tumblr ? Yes, please!!
I'm so excited to continue this partnership with Tumblr for their Holiday Blues series to offer you all some much-needed respite during this holiday season. Join me live for yin yoga and meditation: This Sunday, 12/5  (10 am EST) 12/13 (10 am EST)
My sessions are rooted in the power of movement through mourning.
The holiday season used to be such a magical time for me. It meant endless laughter, cousin antics, and gluttonous eating of Mama Liberia's food. (As we say in Liberian english - before goo' foo' waste, leh belleh buss).
This shifted in 2011 when we started losing loved ones in unfathomable ways. The years were unrelenting. We have never been the same...I have never been the same. So I fell in love with the pursuit of healing.
I believe new parts of ourselves form between breath and movement. Space awakens. We shift from moving on, to moving with.
This holiday season, I invite you to fall in love with the pursuit of healing. To BE WITH the work being done through you. And to do this in community together.
See you on the mat 🌻

Hello there 👋
Welcome back to Mindful Mondays! 🧘
Mondays are, famously, most people’s seventh favorite day of the week. And Mondays where everything is darker, longer, and colder than normal? Thanks, but no thanks.
But don’t panic; we’ve got something to help. It might be small, but it can make a big difference. Just ten minutes of mindfulness can go a long way, and taking some time out to sit down, slow down, and breathe can help center your thoughts and balance your mood. Sometimes, the best things in life really are free.
This year, we have teamed up with the good folks at @nasa. They want you to tune in and space out to relaxing music and ultra-high-definition visuals of the cosmos—from the surface of Mars.
Sounds good, right? Well, it gets better. Watch more Space Out episodes on NASA+, a new no-cost, ad-free streaming service.
Why not give it a try? Just a few minutes this Monday morning can make all the difference, and we are bringing mindfulness straight to you.

Hey y’all! 👋
It’s another year of Holiday Blues, and we are well into winter now. This must mean we are into our FOURTH week of Flex Friday 💪
No one understands the abundance of benefits that exercise can do for mind, body, and soul better than Tiffany Curtis 💫 After all, she is the founder of Indwell Collaborative, a community gathering space for social healing. With over 13 years of experience facilitating programs for social change, she has visions for intergenerational healing, which is contextualized by living through years of compounding grief from familial loss. Now, she is bringing those skills and experiences to you this winter, with her unique program designed to help and heal. ❤️‍🩹
For this fourth week, the theme is simple, but powerful: it’s FOR THE COLLECTIVE. We will continue by completing an important exercise. Together, we return to sit with the resource that sustains our being well, calling our ability to amplify this power for the benefit of all beings. What is possible if we trust in our ability to show up for the community from this place of inner trust? Anything is possible. So join us and find out 🌠
