Headcanon:

Although it's extremely rare these days, some HiveWings are born with a black tear shaped scale behind their eyes, and have sporadic, but weirdly accurate, dreams about the future. Unfortunately, Queen Wasp saw them as a threat to her reign, and either had the dragonets executed, or permanently controlled them through the breath of evil.

Some HiveWings are even born with silver scales on their wings, or forked tongues, which makes them very attractive to other HiveWings (clearly the goddess Clearsight has blessed them!), but these traits are uncommon in HiveWings.

I'm not mad about Cottonmouth turning out to be the major villain, but I wish he hadn't completely stolen the spotlight from Wasp. Wasp had really good build up!! She had the potential to be a super disturbing character (which, I get that WoF is a children's series, but I'm sure she could have been pushed liiiiitle further). Kind of disappointing, but the few scenes she does get are tense and good.

Explored some HiveWing designs with mandibles to make my design :0 And I also gave her the goofy inner teeth Xenomorphs have.

quick review I basically replaced the abslutesolver with the breath of evil bc almost 1 to 1 match and all solvers are animi. the last resistance against the HiveWings were thousands of years ago and failed. HW basically demoted silkwings into barely even dragon, a flamesilk managed to get out and burn silkwings out of an animus removal enchantment, silkwing animus appeared and at first they tried to control them by forcing one to make a collar that permanently restricts it but it worked so well they tried to control one out of fear. the boe was ditched years before and the othermind decided to get revenge by taking over discarded silkwings. Cicada was the first, enchanted by an infected animus to be an animus, and all goes similarly. it forced some silkwings into metamorphosis to be these weird hive-night hybrids labeled SwarmWings. animus silks get the special treatment and became silk-nights instead

first one is my idea of heart nori who in this au is onvia. onvia had experimented with growing a part of the BoE to control herself years before her death but was fully infected by the time she was able to use it. instead she only had access to the piece after dying, kind of rebirthed into the mindspace of her own that she had reign over. she eventually grabbed a leafwing corpse to control bc being an unmovable plant is boring. I thought of making it a canon character before I remembered those corpses would've disappeared centuries ago whoops. Also yes she decorated the leafwing with accessories bc why not.

second image is n meeting onvia. also there's solver uzi. incomparison to her silkwing appearance she has a bulkier build and some foresight. also have her learning how to fly with webbed dragon wings (n has no idea what he's doing but is there to catch her so he's doing his best. i actually had planned to have swarmwings have nightwing wings and i might change it to that depending on how much im willing to modify the hivewing base like that.)

tawny, tessa in this au. tawny is the daughter of a lady of a hive and ends up being the remaining hivewing royal after the othermind massacre on the hives. she was crowned at such a young age and thus very stressed and full of guilt. luckily (not) th othermind eventually found tawny to know too much about it to live and after a few times the hivewings stopped some infected silkwings, it just sent one into the throne room and killed her lol. and then wore her body ofc that happens in this au but I'm not gonna go into that until the next sketch :)))).

more hivewing hcs!! we see in the books that the different hives have very different cultures bc of the different rulers. so, they have stereotypes and jokes based on the hives.

tsetse hive is like the florida of pantala. the news is constantly ridiculous headlines like "tsetse dragon spotted shoplifting with lion rug on head, making lion noises" it's memed to hell and back.

a very common joke is that yellowjacket hive doesn't exist. it's right in between two of the most interesting hives, and is generally ignored. 'yellowjacket hive? what's that??' is usually the response when it's mentioned. it's also sometimes called the hurricane hive, bc it's right in the path of weather coming from the northeast, and not as secure as wasp hive. flooding is common, and repairs are often needed.

wasp hive is obviously the most strict hive, and also the most expensive. dragons there are seen as snotty and stuck up. jokes tend to be avoided during wasps reign.

jewel hive is, of course, the fashion hive. it's kind of similar to california. it's right next to the beach, and it's the most progressive hive.

bloodworm hive is known as the worst hive to live in. all of the strictness of wasp hive, with none of the benefits. dragons from here are seen as grumpy.

mantis hive is canonically the smart hive. they're seen as the nerds, and can be kind of annoying. 'um actually,,' is often used to make fun of them.

cicada hive is the normal hive. they're called boring, and treated like ohio. a lot of jokes about how everyone hates them. there's a popular candle shop that made hive candles, and theirs was unscented.

hornet hive lives up to its name, in that everyone there is always angry. hornet dragons will fuck you up. they're always ready to fight, and most of the news is 'fight at public event'. they're sorta like new york.

vinegaroon hive is the actually ignored hive. everyone always forgets about them, including the queen. poor vinegaroon hive.

Art Dump time! I'll start doing these on Fridays (yes, I know it's Thursday, don't worry)

The first one is Reith, an OC of mine I haven't drawn in a while, I wanted to give them a softer design, but not a lots changed to be honest. here's an old post with my old style! ALSO they are not a WoF dragon, idk what they are but not WoF loll

The second one is hornet, and yes, I know I've been posting this goober a lot, I just really love this character! New flash, I'll be starting up a comic soon starring Hornet :000 And a character named Peace!

The last two are Eclipse, I talked about them in some of my past posts, with @inspiredwriterstory's help we have a start to a story line with Peace, Hornet, and Eclipse! I'll start up the written story first, and the. get started on the comic, so look out for those!

(Yes, I know I one of eclipses drawings I missed the eyebrows, ;-; and that they faces are different shapes for Eclipse, they are still a work in progress and neither are final designs)

Finally, if like to add that, if they want, @/inspiredwriterstory wants, I would gladly share Eclipse, Hornet, and Peace with them as OCs :∆

okay but like. what if the hivewings aren't any more closely related to Clearsight than the other Pantalan tribes. what if the black scales thing was made up by someone to justify segregation. what if the stories were all propaganda for some kind of eugenics movement.

Look, here's the thing. We all know the official story makes no sense. How on earth does one single dragon completely change the language, genetics, and culture of an entire continent??? I've seen some people saying "oH CLeArSigHt wAs a CoLoNisER" but I still don't think that interpretation makes any sense. It doesn't fit her character at all, and even if it did, she couldn't have taken over the entire continent by herself.

But what if all that change wasn't her doing at all?

My theory is that at some point between Clearsight's death and the Tree Wars, there was a civil war in the beetlewing kingdom. At that time, there was a small group of extremists who believed themselves to be descendants of Clearsight. They believed that nightwings/the Pyrrhian tribes in general were racially superior, and so they started some kind of eugenics program in an attempt to breed dragons that had more nightwing features.

The biggest thing the eugenics movement focused on was black scales. When they took over the beetlewing kingdom, they segregated the population into dragons that had black scales, and those that didn't. This was the beginning of the split into hivewings and silkwings. They also deliberately tried to breed more defensive/dangerous abilities (such as venom) out of the silkwings.

After several decades of being denied basic rights, the silkwings revolted. They eventually gained independence from the hivewing kingdom, starting their own kingdom.

For the most part, the old eugenicist beliefs were shunned, seen by the new generations of hivewings as a terrible crime. But there was always a small group of hivewings who held onto those extreme beliefs, hoping that one day the hivewings would rule the continent once again.

And Queen Wasp was one of them.

A redraw of my 3 year old (??!!?) piece.

My first ever Wings of Fire OC, Weevil. In the 2nd picture I inteded for it to be a chibi/dragonet version of her but it basically looks like a smaller adult dragon lmao.

In the redraw I fully embraced the fact that I'm drawing a dragonet so I made her more bulky bcs of baby fat.

I should make a story story involving Pantala cuz man I love their tribes so much. They all have such unique wings. (I love LeafWing wings the most, they're so <3 to draw)
