Gyomei and his Butterflies
We were ROBBED!!! I needed an entire chapter dedicated to them! The fact that Gyomei has such a close personal bond with so many characters is so interesting but none of it gets properly developed because of how much of a background character my man is 😤
Also they are grown in this drawing they just look so little compared to him lol

Gyomei Himejima x Afab!DemonSlayer!Reader
If you don’t recognize the title, here you go
A/N: Uhh there will be some language used, a little zesty maybe - who knows 👀. Honestly proud of this little idea my brain cell cooked up lol. Also mentions of suicide (please don’t come for me) because it takes place in the suicide forest
Not proofread (😀) I’M SORRY
Summary: Shortly after you join the Demon Slayer Corps you’re sent out on a mission with THE Gyomei Himejima to investigate the melodramatic wonder known as Aoikigahara, but then things start heading south, fast.
Tumblr media
“Y/N L/N! HERE ARE YOUR ORDERS!” Your kasugai crow shouted at you, circling far above your head. The sudden noise made you jump with surprise, but you figured that if you wanted to continue slaying demons, then you were to just get used to it. “HEAD TOWARDS AOKIGAHARA IMMEDIATELY!” You stopped dead in your tracks.
Aokigahara?
Just the name alone was enough to make you shudder. It was rumored to be a horrible place, one where many people were lured to their deaths, most likely by demons. They say that its quiet enough to drive a person mad, and that is what drags people deeper into the demon’s terrain. But it was simply too beautiful to go unnoticed, which is why people were just known to go missing there. It’s often said that if you are there just for the scenery, the forest will persuade you to stay. Forever.
But they were just rumors, so there was little to no truth to them… right?
You sighed and looked back up at the clouds overhead. You were only a rookie, so why did they send you to somewhere as dangerous as Aokigahara? Hopefully it wasn’t just a suicide mission.
Tumblr media
There you stood, staring blankly at the miles of open greenery ahead of you. You stood no chance against what was in there, you were simply going to die and there was nothing you could do to prevent it.
With your hand firmly on the tsuka of your sword, you took your first steps into the mystical realm that was known as Aoikigahara. It was then that a terrible dread came over you.
You were being watched.
Nervously, you looked around, trying to see if the being was nearby. Yet there was nothing. Absolutely nothing. You freaked out and ran back outside of the thick wooding, only to run face first into what you thought was a tree. (It wasn’t.)
You had been knocked down because of how hard you ran into it, causing you to groan in pain. To your surprise, the tree helped you up. Which was really weird since trees couldn’t move outside of being blown around by the wind.
You rubbed your head nervously and mumbled a ‘thanks’ before raising your head to look up at said tree. When your eyes met his, you freaked out even more.
“OH MY GOD YOU’RE A HASHIRA!” You whisper shouted, afraid that the forest might hear you. You stared at him in awe, ‘He’s so tall..’ you thought to yourself, quickly apologizing and stepping away so he could have his personal space back.
You looked back up at him, noticing his blindness immediately. ‘Why in the hell would they send me out with a blind guy?!’ Taking a deep breath to calm your nerves, you walked back over to the talk stranger.
“I’ve been looking for you,” his surprisingly deep voice rang out. He looked down at you, stone faced. “I am Gyomei Himejima, the stone hashira. I was told that you practice wind breathing. Is this true?” He had his hands together as he spoke, almost as if he were in a state of prayer.
It made you anxious to think about how you’d been sent out here with a blind and religious nut, but you couldn’t say much, he was much stronger than you after all.
Swallowing thickly, you gave a quiet, “yes, sir” and kept your head down. You didn’t know why you had gotten so timid all of a sudden, like what had gotten into you?!
“Right, off we go then.” He said before disappearing into the terrifying forest that was Aoikigahara.
“Holy shit!- Hey! Wait! Isn’t there going to be any backup?! I didn’t even introduce myself! Come back!!!” You shouted at the trees, knowing that he was long gone now. “Well shit.” You grumbled, taking off towards the trees.
Hopefully you’d be able to catch up to him, or even better, maybe he’d slow down so you could catch up. Either way, you didn’t want to be alone, so you were going to find him as soon as you could.
“What took you so long?” Gyomei’s voice rang out again, causing you to yelp in surprise. “I was starting to think a demon had gotten to you.” You heard his voice, yet you couldn’t see him.
“G-Gyomei?” You spun around and braced yourself, placing your hand on your katana. “Where are you?” With a deep breath, you checked around you once again- maybe you were missing him?
“I’m just a little further out. I think you should see this.” You heard a shift in his voice that made you suspicious of him.
“I can’t. I’ve been wounded.” The demon slayer corps had many code words and terms that were used in case of emergencies, it was often that demons tried to impersonate fellow slayers, so if they didn’t return the code, then they were to die.
“Just remember your concentration breathing and come here.” You let out a sigh of relief and began to head to where he was.
“Alright! I’m on my way o-“ Before you knew it, you were on the ground, pinned beneath an incredibly large being. You coughed at the sudden lack of air, your eyesight slowly fading to black. Quickly, you moved your arm to your sword and unsheathed it. “Wind breathing, third form!” You said weakly, doing your best to stay conscious. “Clean Storm Wind Tree!” And just like that, the creature that had landed on you was twenty feet away from you, unconscious.
You used your katana as a crutch for yourself as you slowly got to your feet. The world was spinning as you glanced back to where you had sent your attacker. Your eyes widened as you noticed the color of his skin. It was unusually pale and covered in strange markings, and his hair was not a natural color by any means.
You were facing a demon.
But demons couldn’t be knocked unconscious.
You rushed forward with the little strength you had left, prepared to cut off his head, but right when you lifted the blade above your head, he caught it.
“You’re a sucker,” the demon chuckled, punching you in the stomach and throwing your katana to the side. “I can’t believe you fell for that, honestly.” He planted his foot on your chest harshly, once again taking the air from your lungs. He giggled as you struggled to catch your breath, your hands slowly coming up to his foot, trying weakly to move it. “You’re adorable though, I may just let you live if you do what I ask~”
Fear spread throughout your body instantly. “G-Go to hell you monster,” you spat, but your threat only caused him to giggle again.
“I love it when you little slayers get all worked up like this.” He leaned in close to your face, his smile growing. “You must not be very strong if you’re not putting up a fight.” There was something about the way he has said those words, it was true, and your reaction showed him it was.
“Now~” he licked his lips. “Do you give up, cutie~?”
You returned his smile, and in one swift movement on your part, the demon was on the ground once again. His eyes watched you curiously as you bolted towards your weapon, how you moved, your well thought out attacks, you were a work of art. He was honored to finally have someone who would be worth the effort of fighting.
Though, he was lost in thought for too long, because you had managed to get ahold of your sword in and cut off his head all within the blink of an eye.
“H-how” the demon mumbled to himself.
You reached down and picked up his head, forcing him to face his murderer. “I may not be as strong as my fellow slayers, but I sure as hell ain’t weak.” You whispered, an evil grin spreading onto your lips, just as he did mere moments earlier. “I hope you won’t underestimate anyone like me in the afterlife,” as you spoke, you dropped his head onto the ground and watched him fade away from existence.
Once you had cleaned yourself up a little, making yourself look decent and picking the grass off of your clothing and out of your hair, you continued to search for Gyomei. Thankfully, he wasn’t too far away. You had found him sitting on a tree stump, hands together and head down in prayer.
“Odd,” you whispered to yourself, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder to signal that you had found him before joining him in prayer.
You didn’t know what he was praying over, so you decided to pray for your safety during the mission. You prayed for Gyomei’s overall well-being and for him to make if out of this mission. He was a hashira, so him making it out alive was much more important than you, as depressing as it was.
When you opened your eyes, he was looking at you, his expression blank like before. You both sat there in silence, staring at one another. “Your name is Y/N, correct?” He asked simply.
“Yes, but I never told you, so how did you know?”
He looked up at the sky mysteriously, a tear sliding down his face as he did so. “I have my ways, that’s all.” All you could do was nod at the strange reply and sit there, it was a calming silence, but there was still something eerie about it.
“Have you found any demons yet?” He looked back at you, tears still flowing down his cheeks. “I-I’m sorry,” you stuttered, “I didn’t mean to interrupt the silence.”
“Yes, I did.” And he left it at that.
“Did you find what we were sent out here for?” Again, he just stared at you in silence. It was as if he was processing the question in his mind, like he didn’t understand it before.
“No, I didn’t.” He let out a short sigh before rising to his feet. “We were sent out here to investigate, but I don’t know what we’re investigating.” He looked over his shoulder, quickly assuming his fighting stance. “Be ready, we’re being watched.”
You stared at him in awe, but it didn’t last long, because you were soon ambushed. Four grotesquely large demons had you both locked in combat. You had managed to slay one of them completely right off the bat, but the second one you faced was much more powerful than the first. It was a challenge to get it done, and you thought you had, until you turned around to face Gyomei and fell to the ground, unconscious.
Tumblr media
You awoke in a room that you didn’t recognize, which was altogether pretty terrifying, but the fact that you couldn’t move was even worse. The pain was excruciating, and your legs were numb. You noticed that someone had bandaged you up, but you still had no idea because there were no hints as to who’s house this was.
“Hello?” You called out weakly, hoping that someone would hear you, but with the size of the room you were in, you figured it was at least a mansion. There was no chance, you were stuck.
“You called?” A familiar voice responded, his footsteps sounding out in the hallway. Gyomei opened the door and carefully peered in.
“OhmygodI’msohappytoseeyou” you let out a huge sigh of relief, smiling when Gyomei walked into the room and sat down on the chair beside your bed.
“I was worried back there,” he stated, his hands back together in a form of prayer. “I with the amount of blood you had lost, I’m surprised I didn’t have to call Shinobu-san.”
“How…” you trailed off, looking up at the ceiling so you could think about your next words. “How long am I going to be here?”
“I’m not sure.” Gyomei’s answer was honest, but there was something about his tone that made you feel you’d be here indefinitely. “From what I was able to bandage, your wounds were deep. You may not even be able to walk for a few days. I would like you to take it easy, because your wounds can, and will, tear open.”
“Yes sir.” You heard him make an odd noise at the name, and shortly after, he excused himself because there were things around the house he needed to do.
Right when he left was when it it you. He was blind. And as far as you knew, you two were the only two in the house right now. So how was he able to bandage you? Did he just feel you up until he found your wounds?? You looked down at your stomach, and upon seeing the bandages, you blushed heavily. Had he really bandaged you himself??
Maybe that’s why he was being so weird when he left. Maybe he was married and didn’t want you to think he’s trying to get up your skirt. Or, or, or- maybe he’s embarrassed about what he had to do and because of that, being in your presence makes him nervous..?
“Yeah that’s totally it.” You whispered to yourself.
Just then, someone came though the door. Immediately you turned to see who it was, and to your surprise, you didn’t recognize her.
She was much shorter than Gyomei and had her purple and black hair pulled back into a messy ponytail. Her haori looked like the wings of a butterfly with its markings, in fact, she looked like a butterfly. She moved with grace in each step and took her time coming over to where you were resting.
“Hi hi Y/N-chan!” She greeted enthusiastically. “I’m Shinobu-san and my friend Gyomei told me that you were looking pretty rough!” She stood beside your bed and examined the bandages around your stomach.
“Well he wasn’t wrong,” you tried to laugh it off, but the pain caused you to wince. “I don’t even remember what happened.” You admitted to her, looking away out of embarrassment.
“Now now, did you bandage yourself?” She asked, slowly lifting up your shirt to get a good view of how far your wounds went. You shook your head and Shinobu gigged to herself. Once she had finished examining you, she stood up and brushed off her hands with a kind smile. “I’m sure you’ll be fine. With what I felt, you’ll be on your feet tomorrow at least, just remember to be careful and to take it easy!”
And with those words, Shinobu had left.
You wished you had asked her if she could send Gyomei back into the room, you were incredibly bored and it would be great if you could just talk to him to pass the time.
Sighing, you looked out the window and noticed that the sun was beginning to set. “Good night house,” you mumbled to yourself as you got comfortable.
Tumblr media
That night you had dreamt you were healed, and in a much better condition than you were now. You dreamt that you were much more powerful, and beautiful too. But the best part of that dream was what happens behind closed doors with a person who lives alone.
“G-Gyomei~” You were a mess but you couldn’t quite explain why. He was crawling on top of you slowly, practically towering over you with how tall he was. Gyomei placed his hands next to your head and leaned down in close to your ear.
“You called?” He whispered seductively. A gentle smirk graced his lips as he began to kiss you softly along your jawline. You shivered, looking away out of embarrassment. Though, that move only made your neck more vulnerable. “What do you need, Y/N?” The question gave you goosebumps, which you tried your best to ignore, but the sudden heatwave that flushed to your face made it hard to do so.
“Y-you,” you mumbled shyly. “I need y-you, Gyomei.” He smiled at your words and slowly raised his body from yours. He carefully sat up and pulled you into his lap, your back against his chest and his hands resting on your waist.
He buried his head in the crook of your neck as his hands moved up to unbutton your shirt in the most teasingly slow way possible. “Just let me take care of you darling.” His breath was hot against your bare skin, which only made you shiver in anticipation.
“Y-yes sir.”
Tumblr media
You woke up to find yourself saying his name. You were flushed and covered in a thin layer of sweat from the wonderful dream that you had been torn from. Slowly pulling the covers over yourself, you looked around the room, hoping that no one had heard your little… incident.
But your heart stopped completely when you saw Gyomei’s figure in the hallway. He looked mesmerized just as you looked terrified. You hurriedly hurried yourself underneath the blanket and mumbled an apology since you assumed you had woken him up.
You wanted to be able to die of embarrassment so badly, but sadly you were forced to face the consequences of your stupid little dream.
The sound of footsteps reached your ears, making your heart rate skyrocket. They stopped before your bed and you could sense his stare, burning through the covers.
He squatted down to your level and slowly pulled the blanket off of your head to reveal your more than red face. Gyomei leaned over to your face and let out a short sigh. “You called?”

The implication that Himejima, while being extremely distrustful of children and their true intentions, continually finds himself becoming something similar to a father figure to like 5 of them is so funny to me.
Himejima: I don't like children, so I will not be around children.
*Genya, Muichiro, Kocho, and Kanae show up*
Himejima: Oh my goodness.

As the Hashira didn’t always have much time to talk and spend time with each other, the time spent before and after Hashira meetings were often filled with catching up and making conversation. Usually, you would use this time to converse with Shinobu and Mitsuri.
“Did you know it’s Gyomei’s birthday?” you beamed at the two before you.
“Wahh! I didn’t know!” Mitsuri clasped her hands together. Slowly, a sly smirk crept up on her lips. “Of course you would know, y/n!”
You put your hands up to your face to cover the heat rising in your cheeks.
“Are you going to do anything for him?” Shinobu asked, a small smile on her face.
“I wanna invite him to dinner but I’m so nervous!” you whispered to the two pillars as you jumped up and down in excitement.
“Ahh! Y/n, you totally should!!” Mitsuri exclaimed, waving her hands around.
“I think everyone except for Gyomei realises your feelings at this point,” Shinobu added, covering her mouth as a small giggle escaped her lips.
“Gyomei definitely has a crush on you too!” Mitsuri said in a low voice, giggling along with the Insect Pillar.
“Ahh! Guyssss stop it!” you squealed. “...Are you sure?”
The two pillars burst out in laughter.
A few moments later, you saw a tall figure approaching the stone garden. “Ohmygod guys he’s here!” you squeaked to your two friends.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY GYOMEI!” you cried, running up to him.
“Thank you y/n-san, your kindness truly moves me,” Gyomei replied, tears streaming down his streaks.
“Are you doing anything for your birthday?” you asked excitedly, looking up at the huge man before you.
“I wasn’t planning on doing anything today. Why do you ask?” Gyomei responded, cocking his head to side.
“Do you maybe wanna come over to my estate for dinner tonight?” you asked in a small voice, nervously awaiting his reply.
“That sounds lovely,” Gyomei answered.
“Great! You can come over at 6!” you said with a huge smile on your face.
“IT’S GYOMEI-SAN’S BIRTHDAY TODAY! EVERYONE SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” you beamed as the two of you walked towards the other 8 Hashira.
“Happy Birthday, Himejima-san!” Rengoku yelled in his usual loud tone.
“Happy birthday, buddy!” Tengen flashed a toothy grin at the Stone Pillar.
As usual, Sanemi, Obanai, Giyu, and Muichiro stayed silent. The former two rolling their eyes at your noisiness. The latter two only stared off into space as Oyakata-sama walked up to the porch of the mansion.
As the Hashira meeting proceeded, you couldn’t help but keep stealing glances at Gyomei. You were absolutely thrilled that he had accepted your proposal to dinner, but you were also incredibly nervous.
After the everyone was dismissed, you found yourself talking to Mitsuri and Shinobu again.
“Y/n, everyone TOTALLY saw you looking at Himejima-san today!” Mitsuri squeaked. “Your face was SO RED!”
“What? Really!?” your eyes widened, feeling your face redden with embarrassment.
“It was quite apparent,” Shinobu said with a light chuckle. “But he wouldn’t have noticed anyway.”
You sighed in relief. “I forgot to tell you, but I invited him to dinner tonight and he said yes!!”
“Wow!! That’s so great! You guys should totally come on a double date with Obanai and I sometime!!” Mitsuri squished her cheeks with her hands in excitement.
You felt your cheeks redden even more.
“Y/n your face is so red!” Mitsuri and Shinobu giggled at your flustered state.
“Good luck tonight, y/n,” Shinobu remarked as she started her walk back to the Butterfly Estate.
Tumblr media
As you prepared for Gyomei to arrive at your Estate, you thought of what you would say, what you would do, and how you would confess your feelings to him.
Mitsuri had come over earlier to help you get dressed and ready. She helped you pick out a kimono to wear, did your hair, and put on some light makeup.
“He’s not even going to see it,” you whined as Mitsuri told you to hold still.
“Look good, feel good,” Mitsuri stated, trying to get the pins in your hair to stay in place.
When Mitsuri finally left -- after giving you a peptalk and advice -- you felt confident and hopeful for the night.
About 30 minutes later, you heard a strong but gentle knock at your door. As you swung it open, you saw Gyomei’s large frame appear in front of you.
“Hi Gyomei-san!” you looked up at him, grateful that he couldn’t see the blush creeping up on your cheeks. “Come on in! I made takikomi gohan! Your favorite!”
As the night went on, the two of you exchanged in thoughtful conversation, mostly led by you. Towards the end of the night, you two sat next to each other on your porch, listening to the sounds of nature as Gyomei rambled on about his training. After a few minutes, you stopped listening, studying the features on his face, entranced by his beauty. Without thinking you leaned closer to him.
He must’ve felt your breath on his face because he stopped talking in the middle of his sentence. “Y-y/n?” he stuttered.
“Yeah?” you mumbled, still too busy staring at him to notice that he stopped rambling.
He leaned even closer so that your noses were almost touching, causing your focus to break and your eyes to widen. You felt your cheeks flush for what seemed like the millionth time that night, staring into the Stone Pillar’s white eyes.
“Your eyes are really pretty,” you whispered, barely loud enough to be heard.
“I’m sure your eyes are beautiful as well,” he replied, cheeks turning a shade of red.
“Your lips are even prettier,” you whispered before closing the distance between the two of you. Your hand reached up to cup his cheek before pulling away. “Happy Birthday Gyomei.”

Tumblr media
Warning: FINAL ARC SPOILERS!! Fem! reader, reader is called mom, Mentions of Character death, I changed the ending becuase i hate it :) People are alive some are not, injuries, talk of injury.
Tumblr media
It was hard after the final battle, for the whole family, adjusting to new injuries, and missing limbs. It was like time had frozen for your ever-growing household. You stayed at the butterfly estate, helping the girls care for the injured and sick, wrapping and rewrapping wounds. You didn’t have much medical expertise but from what you read and the instructions Aoi had given you, you managed just fine. It was easier since you had been tasked specifically to 2 of the remaining hashira and Genya. You knew Aoi had done it as a favor, for you and herself. You could handle them easier, and now that the surgeries were over aftercare was much easier. The Kakushi and Aoi still checked in and assisted when you needed, thankfully.
“Does that feel uncomfortable at all?” You adjusted the pillow under Gyomei's leg, elevating his freshly wrapped leg. “I’m okay dear, do not fret” You were easing him back into bed after a short walk. He was unsteady on the crutches, still gaining his strength from being bedridden for so long, but his injuries were severe and his body needed time. “How are the boys?” You smiled, knowing how far he had come from when you had first met him, adamant about never having children or even accepting a tsugoku, knowing what could happen. He couldn’t handle losing someone so small and so young dying under his care, every death of his friends and of the slayers he knew, it hurt. But when you met Genya you couldn’t turn him away and once Muichiro became more of a prominent figure in your house his heart had grown wider, slowly the walls that stopped him from accepting had crumbled and the boys took residence in his heart. “Muichiro is alright, his pain tolerance is very high, and he doesn’t complain much, but losing his hands has been a process. However much like your leg, there may be a way to help him. Yushiro has mentioned a treatment that Lady Tamayo was developing for regenerating limbs, she knew after the battle would be rough. It's still in development though, but in the meantime, we can look into prosthetics if you are interested? Muichiro is going for it.” He didn’t respond, just simply rubbed the spot where the bandages that covered his leg ended, trying to soothe the aches that the medications didn’t fully stop. “what about Genya?” “He has good days and bad days. His body is reacting well to blood transfusion. Nezukos blood has only positively affected him. Because he was ingesting demon flesh he regenerated most of himself, but it didn’t work fully because of the medication lady Tamayo had been giving him to help him stay human and stop the progression of becoming a demon. his right arm couldn’t be saved. He also lost vision in his right eye and he is learning how to walk again, his scars are healing well though. There will be a lot of trials with his body. Last I saw though he was with Sanemi in the back gardens.” “ah, I see” He looked contemplative, the fresh scars that crossed his face wrinkled as he organized his thoughts. “Gyomei” At the use of his full name he looked over, you had always used a nickname or a pet name unless it was serious. He wrapped one of your hands in his own, showing you had his full attention. “I’ve been thinking a lot. I know you didn’t want children. But, now that there are no more demons and we don’t have to worry as much about anything happening. Maybe, I was hoping you would consider if it was okay with him, adopting Muichiro, officially?” You took a pause, watching his features for any sign of displeasure or unhappiness, anything that said no. “Have you spoken to him about this?” You shook your head. “No, I wanted to speak to you. I was hoping for Genya and Muichiro but I have a feeling he will be moving into Sanemi’s home and staying with him. They are family after all. But either way. We have room for both, even an extra addition if you wanted.” You were hopeful, he had grown to love them both and you knew he did. Maybe not as much as you but in his own way, he loved the boys. “An extra addition? Like, a baby?” Your face was flaming, it was moments like this that made you glad your husband had no sight because you were probably as red as a tomato. You didn’t want to openly admit you have thought of it, seeing Gyomei hold your own little bundle of love, take naps with a baby on his chest, sleeping the day away. It was an extensive thought. Even with Genya and Muichiro, they would make excellent brothers, always so attentive and caring. “If you would like to I would very much enjoy having one of our own. You are an excellent father figure to the boys and an excellent caretaker. But, not now because we have a lot of adjusting to do. I had a few kakushi ask about building ramps for our house. I ordered the supplies they would need and they are starting today. So when you come home and even Genya, you can get around easily in a wheelchair when you are tired.” The change of subject was carefully planned, but you knew he wouldn’t let it go so easily. “I think we should speak to Shinazugawa about Genya and then approach them both. If you still wish to have a child of our own a few years from now. I would like that. You are a wonderful mother already and I already know our child will be very lucky to have you.” His words were watery, tears slipping down his face as he pulled you into the bed with him, wrapping you in his embrace. “Mei! You are injured you shouldn’t be swinging me around right now!” you scolded, though the words held no malice, your weight was never a problem for him, it wouldn’t change just because he was healing.
Tumblr media
“Hi boys, how are you feeling?” Genya was sitting on Muichiro's bed, helping the smaller boy with what you assumed was a letter.
“Hey, Mom! Look! Genya is really good at drawing! Even with his left hand!” The bandages that covered Muichiro's forearms were smeared in ink. And the papers with blotches you assumed were his ‘paintings’ You looked over the papers scattered over the bed after placing down the tray of gauze, antiseptics along with other various items needed for their wounds and scars. Muichiro’s hair was pulled out of his face, braided down his back so it wouldn’t get in the way of his bandages and wounds.  Genya had his hair tied off and out of his face, a purple butterfly clip holding it in place. You shook your head as you adjusted it, knowing that Kanae probably let him borrow one of her most treasured possessions, you would have to thank her for her kindness later. “You did beautiful! Is that Rice cake? She looks so cute!” There was a soft smile on Genya’s face at the thought of the black and white cat that he found one night, bringing it home with him from a mission. Gyomei was ecstatic to have another furry friend be brought home. “Yeah, how is she?” You hummed in thought, trying to remember what was in the letter from your sister who had offered to watch the house while you stayed at the butterfly estate. “She’s good, I guess she keeps going in your room looking for you. But she’s being cared for. They started on the renovations, adding ramps to and from the house, into the gardens.” Both boys were nodding along as you spoke. “Are you done painting so I can change you out of those disgusting bandages?” You looked at Muichiro who was analyzing the ink patterns covering the gauze. “It's not that bad, right? Its art. Uzui would call it flashy” “And I would call it an infection waiting to happen. You haven’t fully healed yet please don’t get an infection when you have probably less than a month before your skin finally finished healing.” Genya was collecting the paper, stacking it so it could be moved and you could sit down and change Muichiros bandages.
The boys talked as you changed their bandages and helped Muichiro into lighter clothes, the days were getting warmer and you didn’t need him dying from heat stroke. “So, mom” Genya started “Did you talk to him? About our question?” You were surprised it took them this long to bring it up, you had already changed Muichiros bandages and were finishing up rubbing scar cream over Genya’s freshly healed facial scars. “Yes and no. I didn’t tell him you two asked. I asked him if he would consider officially adopting you two. He wants to talk to Sanemi before approaching either of you. We love you both but Sanemi is your blood family Genya and you have worked so hard to try and reconnect we wouldn’t want to tear you away from that. There is no rush you two. Let’s get everyone healed and back home before we make big moves, alright?” You finalized the talk with a kiss on each of their foreheads before returning to your husband.

The former sound hashira and his wives were crowding the room as you returned. “Ah, the Uzui family. Hello, how are you?” You greeted, carefully shutting the shoji doors behind you. “Y/N! Oh, I’m so glad to see you! Your house is all done! We added ramps all over your home, and we even helped clean up. Your sister is a wonderful woman, I can’t believe you never mentioned your family!” Suma was bouncing on her heels as she spoke a mile a minute. Relaying her entire day of helping with the maintenance to update your house for wheelchairs. “oh, and even better! We brought presents for the boys! Since were sure they were gonna return home we bought them cute little outfits, kind of western but they will look so handsome! And look, I brought it because I know you’ve been pinning his hair back, but look at this clip I found for Muichiro? Isn’t it beautiful, I thought, oh he would look so cute in this! With his outfit! How young can he get married? He will be the talk of the town.” She was still rambling, pushing a large hair clip in your hands as she spoke. It was a beautiful Cyan, with silver embellishments and a unique leaf design etched into it. It looked expensive and high-class. This couldn’t have been a cheap gift. “Thank you, Suma, all of you. I’ve sure he will love it. I’m not sure about marriage but I will keep it in mind for a future talk” That talk wouldn’t happen anytime soon as you placed the clip on a table that held various items brought from your home for Gyomei. “How are you feeling dear? Pain?” “I am at ease” he grunted, patting a smoothed-over spot on the bed next to him. “Gyomei and I were discussing the funerals. They plan on finishing the burials in a few days with the hashira. Many of the kakushi were wondering if the two of you would be in attendance, along with Tokito” Tengen looked at you from his seat next to the bed. Hinatsuru and Makio were sitting next to him, silent as they waited for an answer. “I will be there” gyomei finalized. “I will talk to Mui about it. His recovery has been good so I don’t imagine he wouldn’t go. Have you spoken to Sanemi about this? Has he said anything?” Although he was severely injured, his recovery seemed rather fast. He slept for a month straight but that seemed to be when he did all of his healing, only waking up with weakness and some sore spots. It was a miracle you thought because he looked rough for a while. You had switched off watching him with Aoi and the three little ones. “We spoke to him and Tomioka, they both will be in attendance. You and Muichiro were the last two we had to confirm. We were going to visit him but I figured since you two are his unofficial parents I figured I would just ask you.” Tengen finished. You and Gyomei both nodded. “How are you all doing now, after everything is over? How are you feeling?” Hinatsuru changed directions addressing you both. “Healing well. My nurse seems to be giving me special treatment I believe. She is good at her job!” Gyomei chuckled, leaning into you. “A joke Gyomei? You must be feeling better today. It’s a slow process but it's going well. The boys are healing and Sanemi is fully healed. So we're getting by, slowly but surely.” You smiled at the Uzui’s, they were worriers, even if they didn’t seem like it they stopped by quite often to make sure everyone was okay. Hinatsuru often sent letters and gifts from their garden. “That is so wonderful to hear. Most everyone seems to be almost if not fully healed. After everyone is healed I would love if all of us to spend a week or so together. To reconnect after such a hard battle. We have been through a lot as a team and I think it’s time to properly bond as a family. We have been the ones to end it. We shall celebrate and reminisce about our departed friends and family!” Tengen announced, all three of the girls nodded with him, bright smiles on their faces at the announcement. “That is lovely” Gyomei noted. “If you would like, we can have everyone at our home! We have plenty of room! We can have Muichiro and Genya stay in our room while everyone stays over. It will help me keep an eye on everyone! Easier to change bandages if everyone is already there!” There was collective laughter at your last statement. “Of course just name a date and we will be there” The Uzui’s stayed until it was rather dark out, talking throughout the dinner you brought them and even as you changed the bandage wrapped around Gyomei’s calf. They didn’t leave until Suma fell asleep on your lap and you were close behind, struggling to keep your eyes open after a long day.

I'm weird and bored so. What do the Hashira smell like?
Giyuu Tomioka
So I think Giyuu would always smell like mint and chlorine. I did get that from somebody else and I think it fits him. I don't know why. He probably never even uses breath mints, he probably uses those mint squares. The weird paper things.
Shinobu Kocho
Dove. Just straight up smells like a dove soap bar. She just gives off that fresh scent of a freshly cleaned bathroom. Either that or morning dew. Probably because the morning dew from the grass seeps into her shoes way to often...
Gyomei Himejima
Wet rocks. Just straight river stone. He gives off the smell of nature. Like sniff him and you can smell a Bob Ross painting. It's oddly soothing... Like skipping stones..
Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sapwood. A fresh fruit smell. Something tropical and soothing. like fruit punch. Something fresh that makes you want to go on summer vacation when it's the middle of the winter. It most likely comes from his hair. He doesn't wash his hair with shampoo and instead makes his own conditioner ( probably like how Inosuke does ) He most likely mashes up some bananas and mixes it with honey and milk. His hair gets frizzy and dry easily so this treats it really well. Mmmm. Bananas.
Tengen Uzui
Citrus. Like lemon. His smell probably stings. He most likely uses lemon juice to fight wrinkles and signs of ageing. He then dulls it down with something more water based. Probably including coconut to help keep his skin moisturized. At this point he smells like a salon.. (It tingles the other Hashira's nose hairs..)
Obanai Iguro
He probably smells like cloth or laundry detergent and cologne. The cloth nd laundry detergent come from his clothes since his haori is much bigger then he actually is. And the Cologne. I bet he just wears it or something like it so he can mask the fact that he has a snake crawling on him all the time and that never leaves his shoulder. Kabumaru probably shed on him before.. or worse...
Mitsuri Kanroji
Sweet honey. She smells like sugar, like a bakery. Fresh bread and berries, a calming and nice scent. Cookies and milk. She just smells like food. Like those cinnamon shampoos people use. Her scent probably changes season to season since she would most likely make her products seasonal. (The candy cane scent is Obanai's favorite)
Rengoku Kyojuro
He smells like cats. Like the great outdoors. He gives off a man musk that isn't to strong but is easily noticeable as well. His hands always smell like pennies though. An iron smell. He also gives off the smell of a side walk. I don't know what that is meant to smell like but he just does.
Muichiro Tokito
Grass. He smells like grass. That's it. Just straight grass.
-----------------
Yeah that's how I think they would smell.....

Demon Slayer Sound Headcannons
Recently, someone asked me about my writing and how I describe sounds from Zenitsu's POV, and it really got me thinking about how every character's "sound" is, so here you go:
Tanjirou- like a small creek trickling over rounded riverstones. As his emotions get stronger, it sounds like the creek gets bigger, like it is leading towards a waterfall.
Inosuke- a sound of drums and hoofbeats. An occassional rockslide. When he is excited, the sound gets faster. It is a very adventurous rhythm made completely of percussion
Zenitsu- he really flips a lot from the sounds of a monsoon to that of light rain. The storm is accompanied by pizzicato strings that echo in contrast to the wind and the rain
Kanao- for a very long time she sounds almost completely silent. There is an empty sort of echo to it that gives the allussion of sound when there is nothing. As the story progresses, she begins to sound more like wind in high grass, and the echoing nature of her sound fades away
Genya- quiet but convoluted woodwind ensemble. Usually the oboe or bassoon take the lead, but in his softer and more vulnerable moments, the flute and piccolo pick up the melody
Aoi- piano accompanied by a violin melody. They turn to a minor key when she is feeling self-concious. The melody is very sweet and light, but the piano can become heavier on the low notes when she gets annoyed
Giyuu- a soft waltz, very echo-y, the flutter of tree-leaves
Shinobu- those tiny metal windchimes, with a faint background sound like the scratching of nails on glass
Sanemi- okay, so you've heard Ride of the Valkyries, right? It sounds like the begining of that song, but the woodwinds and strings messing around and swooping in the back are louder
Muichiro- wind rattling the branches of dead trees. It isnt the kind that scared you as a kid, but a softer kind that sounds like autumn.
Mitsuri- bamboo windchimes, the purring of a cat, a joyful marimba tune
Obanai- a soft flute tone that doesn't really change much. It goes well with Mitsuri’s sound
Himejima- there are fountains found in some Japanese gardens called shishi-odoshi. They are made to keep deer away from the garden by filling up a bamboo pipe with water until it tips over and moves back up, making a clack sound against the rocks
Tengen- the burning of a candle, a choir, cymbals and fireworks. A very flashy sound
Rengoku- very loud organ and trumpet music. Almost obnoxiously loud at times. It sounds like the triumphant music that plays in video games when you win a battle. A campfire crackles in the back
Nezuko- like a campfire, crickets, and the lower notes of a cello. As a demon there is an added sound like the faint high-pitched tremolo of an out-of-tune note that clashes with the rest of her sound.
I think demon's sounds are closer to how they sounded as a human the more they remember/are in touch with their human lives, but there will always be a note that clashes with the rest. Sometimes it almost drowns out the "human" sound. Most demons, however, have a completely discordant sound

As we walked back home we saw the other pillars just prepairing to head back to bed, as i held his hand i felt mine get numb my hand started to turn blue like a crystal, thank god my jacket/ kimono coverd my hands, it started at the tips of my fingers”My love whats wrong” He suddenly asked feeling my cold hand..”Oh dont worry im just cold”i lied.. we walked to our room, i took my jacket of and helped Gyomei with his.
my hands began to show crack at the tips..”Hey Gyo~ i’m going to take a dip in the hot springs..” i said walking to our private one..”Oh okay can i get a hug first” he asked like always..”Uhh maybe later im not feeling wel” i lied again i took of my clothes in the bathroom and grabed a towel, i wonder if Gyomei is sleeping right now.. i took a peek at gyomei sipping tea enjoying the sounds of the night.
i closed my door and wraped the towel around my body, walking to the hot springs, “Love dont forget sleep”I told him kissing him on the cheek, “What a shame..i wanted to wait for you” he said sipping his tea.
“Oh..ill be really quick and then ill join you!”i said walking outside to the hot springs, i put the towel away and slowly enterd the water feeling the warmth of it but taking another look at my hands..
they were still cold, and still cracking, its blue to my knuckles now..and the cracking is even worse.. i took a look at my legs they were all blue like crystals? they have some cracks just like my hands... “Something is deffinetly wrong"
I hopped out the water and wraped a towel aorund my cold body, sliding the tatami door and closing it behind me.
Gyomei sat there. Still drinking his now cold tea. "Gyo ill dry meself and change. Then ill come cuddle with you." i said walking to our room sliding the door behind me.
i took my towel off taking a look at my bod in the mirror... legs, cracking...arms cracking... between the cracks was something neon blue...really shiny.. kinda glowing. i dressed myself and took a closer look in the mirror.. *Crack* i saw and heard my face starting the crack and my eyes turned a neon blue.. “crap”i said under my breath, “love is something wrong youve been in there for a while now..” i heard Gyome say..I didnt dare to anything.. my lips..trembling and starting to crack aswel..”ye..a. i’m fine” i replied to gyomei, “Love im coming in..” he slid the door open ,thank god he coudnt see.. or els he would freak out  “is something wrong?” i said softly trying to hide the fear in my voice.
he didnt say anything and reached out for my hands to hold them “Love lets head to bed” Gyomei smiled trying to feel my hands. “sure love.. you know that i love you right..” i started crying.”ofcourse i know you love me and i love you..no matter what..”
i smiled and walked away to the door “Gyo..im gonna talk a walk outside okay..” i said sliding open the door “Love are you sure, should i come its late..” i started crying..”Yes...i’m sure” i said sliding the door behind me.. feeling the cold air hitting me skin the warmth in my body was completly gone... my hands stil felt numb.
i felt something strange in my body.. i walked torwards the forest something was calling me.. i started running to the forest.. the sound kept getting closer..and closer.. i soon heard a familiar voice.. “Mom?” i said running even faster. there was no way she was still alive.. or is it a illusion.. or a trick.. i stopped running when i saw a famiar figure.. she turned around.. coverd in blood.. blue neon eyes..” Oh my sweet child.. it’s been a while..”she said smiling.. i coudn’t believe it.. it was really her.. i looked closer and saw she coverd her lower body and arms
“Mom..?” i slowly walked into her direction. soon i felt someone put a towel on my mouth and nose. and everything turned dark.

For Them
Tumblr media
Warnings - FINAL ARC SPOILERS, Character death, grieving, blood, depression, very little comfort, FEM! Pronouns, reader is called wife
You knew the day would come eventually. Demon slayers never lived forever, no matter how strong or fast they made themselves. You knew that there was a high chance your husband wouldn’t make it out of the fight. As you sat next to him, gripping his hand for life as the battle plan was laid out for everyone. Kagaya explained his idea to you and the residents at the table. Two retired hashira, The entire Ubuyashiki family, Your husband, and you. Everyone was silent, listening intently as Kagaya spoke. “It will not be easy, but I know we are the generation that ends it, our team right now as the demon slayer corps will be the ones to end the demons.” You watched Amanes firm gaze as she looked around the table. Shinjuro Rengoku was the first to speak up, he had active participation with the corps since the passing of the late flame hashira, his son. “We will protect them, no matter what.” Tengen nodded in affirmation, silent as he gazed back at the master's unsteady gaze. Your husband was unusually quiet next to you, not even a sniffle was heard from him. “Gyomei. You are the only current hashira whom I am trusting with this plan. You are the strongest we have. Your will has always been unbreakable, use it to your advantage.” As he was addressed directly he finally shifted, The hands that engulfed yours squeezing a bit tighter before releasing, falling back into his lap. “Y/n, We asked you along for this meeting because we have a favor to ask. The children are still young, and this will be very hard for them and for you as well. This is war and we don’t know what loss will take place during it. Will you stay with them? Shinjuro and Tengen will be right outside the room but we ask that you stay with Kiriya, Kanata, and Kuina during all of this for support. Kagaya and I figured it would be easier than sitting at home worrying yourself sick.” You looked up at your husband who continued to stare straight ahead. “Yes, I can do that. They will need all the help they can get.” Amane nodded looking over at her husband. “There will be more individual meetings while we figure out schematics, please remain diligent in your work. Thank you again, all of you” Kagaya dismissed everyone before retreating back to his quarters alongside his family.
The plan was hard to digest, knowing that the war would start with such a huge loss for the corps. But it was smart, all of them would fight their hardest knowing the Ubuyashiki family was a casualty. Gyomeie chose not to discuss it much, continuing to work his hardest and prepare for the looming battle only he knew was closer than expected.
When the night finally came, the explosion shaking the ground you stood on the two of you didn’t hesitate, departing from each other with a flurry of kisses and mumbled love before separating, promises to return not heard. You tried your best to stay strong, supporting the children the best you could throughout the night, praying to Buddha as each slayer was announced dead. Friends, those who you considered family members all being announced dead as the night continued. It wasn’t until upper moon 1 was defeated that you had to step back, the announcement you had begged anyone who would listen to prevent. “Genya Shinazugawa and Muichiro Tokito have died in the fight against upper moon 1” The world shook under the weight of the words as they came out of Kiriyas mouth, your knees quaking as you tried to keep yourself upright, standing just behind the eldest Ubuyashiki child. The tears fell silently, the red beads Gyomei thrust into your palms before departing were sweating under the heat of your grip. Not my sons. The words ran through your head like a mantra, the rest of the battle falling on deaf ears as you cried, biting your lips to stifle the sobs you could feel itching your throat.
“Y/N? Can me and Mui join the others bathing in the river?” You didn’t look up from the fish grilling in front of you. “Dinner will be done really soon, sweetheart. Can you wash up here? You can sleep with everyone else tonight if that’s better?” A plate entered your peripheral, being held up for you to use. “Thank you” “You know. You remind me a lot of my mom.” “oh yeah? Did she deal with a lot of rowdy brats too?” Genya laughed as he grabbed the plate of steaming fish before swapping it with an empty plate for more. “She did! And she did a good job! She was quiet like you but when she got upset she was a whirlwind. She kept us all straight, she did a lot for us. Sacrificed a lot. You do too.” You looked away from the sizzling meal at those words. Genya had a sheepish smile, always unsure of himself when he spoke earnestly. He was a brash boy, never shy when he didn’t mean the words coming out of his mouth, but when he meant it, he was a whole different person. “It means a lot to hear you say those things Genya. I wouldn’t ask for a kid different than you. If me and Gyomei have the chance to have our own children, I would love for them to be as wonderful of a person as you. You’ve grown a lot from the scared boy I first met. Your kindness knows no bounds and your forgiving and gentle nature always shines. I can’t wait to see the man you become” You patted his cheek before turning back to the food. “Thanks, Y/N,” he paused, taking a step back “I’ll go set the table and go get Muichiro” “Alright sweetheart, don’t forget to wash up a bit!”
It was less than 24 hours ago, probably even less than 12 hours ago you were hoping for a future you could watch them grow. You had been raising Genya since he was so much smaller, still grieving the loss of his family and the abandonment of his brother. They were still so young. “Master!” The screams broke you out of your stupor, rushing towards Kiriya as he grasped at the blood dripping down his face. “I’m fine, are Obanai and Tanjiro okay?” sitting back up with your help. Uzui was on your other side, passing cloth over to wipe away the blood and stifle the wound. The next 30 minutes were tense, holding Kriya upright as he watched the battle, trying to figure something out that will help. You listened to his cries, his pleas for them to relax while he tried to redirect them to help them survive. Uzui was tense, holding Kanata upright while Shinjuro held Kuina, supporting the Ubuyashiki children. You felt powerless, not knowing how the battle was going or being able to see the chaos. You looked over at Tengen while the battle reached its peak. Watching his eyebrows furrow as Kanata recited what was happening. “The battle isn’t over, tend to the injured!” Kanata yelled out as Kiriya fall back, unconscious. Everyone rushed forward. “Y/N, you have to go, east, a crow will meet you” Kuina was pulling on your sleeve “There are a few horses out back, now” Tengen didn’t spare you a glance, attending to Kiriya as you were shuffled out of the room, confused and unaware of what was happening. Did you win? Was it over?”
It took 20 minutes on a horse before you arrived at the scene, a crow squealing for you to hurry up. The scene was disturbing, there was so much blood, so many bodies still being covered. A kakushi greeted you in surprise, seeing you on horseback. “Mrs. Himejima, I’m so sorry. He didn’t want our help.” The words had you faltering as you dismounted, stopping in your tracks and losing sight of the crow that was calling for you. “What?” The kakushi stopped, suddenly aware of your confusion. They reached forward, grasping your hand in their own. “This way.” They led you through the debris, many other greetings you with apologies before you were brought upon your worst nightmare. There were a few other Kakushi surrounding him, tears flowing down their faces while they tried to clean him up, dressing his wounds that had stopped flowing at the same time his heart stopped. “Mei” You gasped, alerting the others of your presence. They immediately stepped back, bows of apology as they rushed through their sorrows. “Gyomei, my love, no” You didn’t know where to look, your hands patting around his body, stopping at his face. He was still warm, not the blazing inferno he usually was but a dying fire. “Sweetheart” There was a ghost of a smile gracing his face, he looked serene, the same he did on the nights you laid beside him, watching him dream. His head was heavy as you held it up to look at him. The cut across his features had been cleaned, free of dirt and blood. “how long ago?” You turned back to the Kakushi that led you there. “right after Muzan had been defeated. He told us not to waste the supplies on him as he would die soon. He asked us to do something for him though.” You nodded, listening as you turned back to your husband, fixing his collar and trying to straighten out his torn clothing, making him look normal. “Mrs. Himejima. He asked that we tell you not to worry and live normally” There was a pause in her speech as you nodded, not trying to listen but also trying not to break down. “He said I quote ‘I love you and so did the boys’ he passed away shortly after with a smile. Mrs. Himejima. I’m so sorry. We all loved him dearly, he was a wonderful man who fought very hard. We couldn’t have done this without him.” You couldn’t stop the cries if you had wanted to, the grief was overwhelming as you listened to his final words. You could picture the serene look on his face as he spoke, hear the timbre tone in his voice as if he was speaking directly to you, holding you with the same gentle touch he always held you with as he spoke to you. You don’t know when you collapsed into him, vision clouded with grief and sorrow. You couldn’t even remember walking back to the butterfly estate, holding the hand of Nezuko as you followed behind the parade of kakushi, carrying the bodies of the injured back for treatment.
3 different funerals with 3 different caskets. The hashira were all buried near each other under the largest wisteria tree in the grove. There caskets circled the tree, all different shapes and sizes. You had given the Kakushi fresh clothing for Gyomei, gifting them his wedding attire as you had no use for it, you asked that yours went with him, there wouldn’t be use for it either, you were his until the day you took your last breath. The flowers surrounding the hashira had left a beautiful display, and the Kakushi who dressed normally, all grieving for their lost comrades had been a support for you, knowing they were loved, they were cared for. You were grateful.
It was after Sanemi fully recovered when you held Genya’s funeral. He was buried near Gyomei and Muichiro at the request of Sanemi. Since there was no body recovered you had done what you did with Muichiro, filling his casket with gifts and treasures. The prototypes of his weapons and a few pairs of his clothing. His favorite vest. You included the blanket he had come into your home with, the one his mother had given him. “Genya loved you so much” It was the first time you spoke since the funeral procession this morning. Sitting next to your husband's grave with the wind pillar. “I know. I love him too. I just wish he would have stayed away, I wish he would have lived a longer life.” You hummed in agreement. “I would have liked to see him and Mui grow up” You reminisced. “He would have made such a good adult, an excellent husband. Maybe you and Gyomei could have helped with his wedding and vows.” Sanemi looked up from the grass he had begun pulling out, meeting your teary gaze with his own. “Thank you Y/N, for taking care of him so well. You and Gyomei both. I was glad to see him be taken care of so well. He looked healthy and well-fed. Thank you.
