Lyanna Stark naming Jon Snow after his dead brother is just... oof. Maybe I'm just attached to my oc, and maybe the trauma of hearing her uncle Oberyn telling her how her cousins were butchered by the Lannisters got to me, but like... Elaena would flip her shit if she heard that bullshit from Bran/Sam/Jon.

a pathetic excuse for a guide to indie rp by eleni.
Tumblr media
all the fun is bellow the cut. enjoy !! ( i’d appreciate it if you liked/ reblogged if you found it any helpful. )
hellothere ! first of all, i’m glad you’re interested in roleplaying. note that the skam rp community is one of the nicest I’vebeen part of !
alright, so- i’mgonna try my best and explain roleplaying as best as I can ! pls forgive any mistakes you come across; english isn’t my native language.
you’vegot to understand what roleplaying is all about; telling a story. It isbasically co-writing a story with another roleplayer ( other roleplayers ),each of you narrating through your character’s eyes.
rp writingis third-person, in either present or past tense, depending on what you aremost comfortable in.
hereare some important role play terms:
rp – role play
fc – faceclaim; the face you choose for your character ( actor/actress, model, artist etc etc. )
canon character – refers to a character that alreadyexists in any form ( e.g. vilde is a canon character. )
oc ( original character ) – a made-up character ( e.g. chris’ sister.)
mun – the role player
muse– the character that’s being portrayed
indie rp – role playing independently and not as part of a role play group.
ic – things that are said by the character
ooc – things that are said by the role player
starter – the initial post of a thread
thread – a series of replies between two or morerole players.
canon – facts or circumstances that coincidewith what we know to be true about a chara ( e.g. isak and even’s relationshipis canon. ) or their world. ( e.g. russcelebration. )
hc or headcanon – facts or circumstances that the role playeraccepts as canon to their own version of the character ( e.g. I hc noora asbisexual. )
au – alternative universe. role playing in aworld different than what is canon to the character. ( e.g. harry potter au,where eva is a sixth year gryffindor student. )
nowthat we’ve covered some basic stuff, let’s talk about the more practical ones;
thesteps of getting started.
i. decide what character/s you are willing to play.
ii. create a new blog. your blog can be either dedicated to only onecharacter or multi-muse, depending on your previous decision. tip: be creative with the url whilemaking clear what character/s you’ll be playing.
iii. go for a neat and organized theme. tip: i personally browse the #rp theme tag for my themes.
iv. add a page for your guidelines ( things like how comfortable are youwith writing 18+ content, things that you find triggering etc. ) so that theother players know what to do and what to avoid while rping with you. if you feel like it, you can add a page with info about your character or evena bio for them !
v. gather resources. you can use gifs, gif icons ( 110px or smaller mostlysquare gifs. ) or rp icons. tip: find resources browsing tagslike #fc name rp icons, #fc name gif icons, #fc name gif hunt etc.
vi. follow rp blogs. browse the tags depending on what fandoms you’re moreinterested in. tip: each fandom has it’s tags; theskam fandom uses he tags #skam rp and #indie skam rp.
vii.  you can message them or like one of their starter call to startinteracting with their characters. Make sure you check their guideline pagebefore starting a thread with any of them.
viii. you can always ask other rpers for help if you don’t get smth, i’m sure they’ll be willing to offer some advice.
the basics of rp etiquette
godmodding– you can ONLY control your character’s actions in the threads. you can’t type actions or words for the other player’s muse (e.g.) it’s called godmodding and it sucks. note: this is not godmodding (x) but this is (x).
respect other players’ guidelines / triggers / boundaries – as i said, you can find them in their blog. ALWAYS tag triggering / nsfw content. ask for the other players’ consent before any major actions
be kind to everyone – you can remind a player if they owe you a reply, but don’t bug them about it. also, don’t let anyone bug you about it too. we’re here to have fun and enjoy writing.
making your replies fancy
i’d suggest this post on rping with html ( formatting tutorial ). i’ve found it really useful. however, you are not obligated to format your replies in any way; this is more about the aesthetic than the quality of the rp experience.
— hope you found this post helpful ! i’m looking forward to seeing you in the indie rp community !! x
