Misconceptions About Type 1
Type 1 is likely one of the more uncommon types within the enneagram system.  We often joke of the overtypings of 5s and 4s and proceed to forget that type 1 is also strongly overtyped.  The fact is that few if any enneagram authors were of the type 1 personality type, therefore much of what is written about the type is lacking this first person experience associated with the type.  This becomes very obvious in descriptions of 1 which almost entirely ignore 1s connection to the body triad and, at times, portray the type as if it were of the head triad.  When learning the enneagram, it becomes especially important to understand this difficulty and begin to reconceptualize our understanding of type 1 in particular.
1) Type one is "insert head type description here": Many descriptions portray 1 almost as though it were a head type rather than a gut type, which leads to a lot of 6s and probably even 5s mistyping as such. While 1s can be cautious, worrisome, cerebral and even theoretical/thoughtful, the core of the gut center revolves around instinct and body orientation.  Anger and frustration for the 1 is often felt intensely and in the body sense.  One of the best self descriptions I’ve heard from a 1 about this experience was the comparison of the self to a tuning fork, with “wrong” being identified as a dissonance between the self and reality.  While 1s sense of ideality as well as their sense of right/correct or wrong/incorrect can be intensely logical, have solid reasoning, and be thought through in great detail, the 1s sense of ideality does not stem from the mind, but from the body and that either intuitive or sensational sense of ideality and non-ideality.  This type is most often incredibly decisive and trusting of it's sense of directionality unlike the head types who will bolster their sense of judgement through impulse, intense research, external affirmation, or other means because the core of type 1 is not a distrust of internal guidance. The type literally only has possibility for positive outlook wings as well as a strong line to 7, a positive outlook type.  This manifests as this incredible sense of self trust in their own ideas and ability to assert judgement and provides a driving force for action and movement since, despite cynisism or pessimism, there is often assumption that ideality is something that can be reached for or even obtained.  This is the strongest distinguishing factor between 1 and other types consistently mistyped as 1.
It should be clarified further that “body sense” does not imply that all 1s need to be “sensing” types in the mbti sense or are remotely connected to their body in the physical or traditional sense.  Ideality can be abstracted in the intuitive sense, body sensations can be entirely filtered through an abstract lens in the sense that a 1 may not be able to describe it as it exists physically, etc.  The distinction must be made that the gut triad in general comes with this arrogant “I just know” sort of mentality that distinguishes it from the heart and head triads.
2) Type one represses anger and is often inclined to come across as composed: It is not uncommon for 1s style of anger to be misinterpreted as repressed, especially considering how uncommon this type actually is.  Textually, it can be difficult to find a word that is distinctly fitting for their style of anger. While 1 often prioritizes objective and clear thought, this types vice is still wrath. Perhaps this anger and rage may be internally justified as something that the 1 does not consider rage (ie. nitpicking, organizing, criticism, an explanation etc) or the 1 may even truly believe they are as cool headed and emotionally detached as many suspect themselves to be, however the 1's wrath is externally oriented and palpable. Wrath exclusively directed at the self, but not caught by others or a type that only manifests as being internally frustrated or critical of others alongside little to no external expression is a 9 thing. Repressing anger to maintain a clearheaded, objective stance is also more of a 9, 6, or even 3 trait rather than a trait that is primarily 1. 1 type anger is controlled, directional, and centered (rather than diffused and internally brewed as in the 9 or ranged, comfortably expressed, and impact focused as in the 8). This even applies to 1w9, who's sense of wrath may be oriented towards reducing discomfort or takes on the justification as being peace/balance seeking but is not as quiet or remotely hidden as some often expect it to be.
 3) Type 1 is rigid and Rule Abiding: They are, but to their own sense of structure, not necessarily external structures. 1 has a strong vision of how the world should be and what is lacking. The archetype of the perfect student who enforces the rules or the person dedicated to a strong moral system or "the goody two shoes" is 90% of the time a 3 or 6 at their core because both of these stances are strongly tied to pre-established systems and appeal to the attachment orientation. 1 at it's core is frustration and dissatisfaction. 1 isn't necessarily breaking rules and can have moral stances that connect to culture and common standards, but there is a strong connection to the body and impulse sense of anger and frustration rather than the more traditional focus on established systems and rules.  1 is far more often the generator of rules and standards rather than the follower of them.
4) The Core Fear of 1 is Being a Bad Person: While this is not necessarily incorrect, the way this is framed does not provide the necessary context that, once again, this is not really expectation based and that “bad” is not necessarily relating to morality.  You can have traditionally “evil” 1s who embrace the concept of being absolutely awful or, more commonly, are unaware of the effects of their behavior on others or hypocrisy because, once again, all of this self directed and critical behavior is a felt sense.  1 moves in the direction of it’s compass, that compass does not have to be remotely moral in the traditional sense.

I have returned with more Lackagold au ideas and I'm here to share!!
Serafine and Nico basically platonically adopt the Lackadaisy trio, but especially Rocky. They absolutely adore how chaotic his is and how he isn't afraid to be himself.
Nico attempts to teach the trio some basic hand to hand combat in case they ever need it. Rocky ends up with a black eye without anyone even taking a swing at him. Freckle flinches any time someone even moves in his direction and eventually ends up just curled up in a ball on the ground... Ivy does surprisingly well! She gets the hang of dodging and even manages to land a few hits.
All six of them occasionally hang out when they're not working or on jobs... and by that, I mean the five of them somehow find a way drag Mordecai along to hang out with them every time.
Serafine and Nico have both playfully hit on Wick, just to tease Zib and Mitzi.
Mordecai, Ivy, and Freckle are all kind of the sanity wranglers of the group. They keep Rocky and the Savoys from going too crazy and potentially blowing shit up. But if Freckle happens to get a gun... yeah, then it's strictly Mordecai and Ivy in charge.
Mordecai would never admit it, but he's grown kinda attached to their little hexad. Even if Rockys poetry wears on his nerves, the Savoys insane schinanigans make him question his own sanity, Freckles on-again-off-again gun crazy makes him both fear for his life and his ear drums, and Ivys sass drives him up the walls, he still can't help but grow a slight bit of a soft spot for them in a way.... plus, there's an even number of them, so there's at least some symmetry.
YES YES YES!!!
omfg the Savoys adopting Ivy, Freckle and Rocky, THAT is beautiful.
Wick getting flustered by the sexy Cajun cats lmfao that's really good too. And Mordecai is that tired big brother/uncle of the group, or even the goddamn father (he's literally older than them all, what the fuck how did I not realize this earlier)
and the fear Mordecai has of Freckle with a gun? Relatable. Mood.
GOD ilysm anon <333 if I may ask (and you don't have to reply!!!) what would happen with them angst wise?? like a really bad day that drove someone up the walls and then they just snapped? or just a down-in-the-dumps type thing??
EITHER WAY I'm so happy to see you again!!

hi! hope you’re doing well :) i had a couple of general typing questions
1. are some types more common in certain contexts? there seem to be many self typed infps, intps, intjs and infjs online (along with 4s, 5s and 9s). is it just that withdrawn INxx types are more active on certain spaces on the internet or is it more likely to be due to mistyping/intuitive bias?
2. do certain sections of the internet attract some types more than others? influencer culture attracting 3s for instance, or niche rabbit holes coaxing high Ne types to fall into them? conspiracy theory sites/forums that are skeptical of widely accepted facts attracting high Ti users? etc
3. are there enneagram types that most people mistype as regardless of their real type, just due to the type descriptions sounding more universally relatable or desirable? i guess sort of like intuitive bias but for the enneagram lol
4. what about the reverse - types people commonly don’t type as, even if they are that type, because the descriptions aren’t relatable to majority of people and/or they don’t want to see themselves that way?
thank you!!
I’m having a very busy week so far, and I can’t wait to stay home and avoid people for several days.
In answer to your questions…
The internet tends to draw intuitive in search of abstract conversation, so it’s normal to interact with more intuitive personalities in certain topics (such as MBTI and the Enneagram), since their abstract nature (analyzing people without associating with them, lol) tends to draw more intuitive types. That being said, INJs are over-typed online and many of them are NP/SJ/SP. INFP seems to be one of the more common typings (sorry, INFPs!), though some of them are mistyped ENFPs.
Yes. Certain topics attract certain personalities.
Most people appear to be mistyping as 4, since they identify with being creative, wanting to be unique, etc., but lack the pickiness and frustration that come with being a core 4. Most “online 4s” turn out to be 9s, 6s, or even 3s. The problem is that the people writing the 4 stuff are often core 9s, so they infuse the 4 stuff with other types (attachment). Same with 5s, they are often 9s. People assume if you like to read stuff and love wisdom, you must be a 5. Attachment types tend to mistype more than hexad types.
People will do almost anything to avoid 6, especially if they don’t see themselves as fearful, or are interpreting their fear through “being sensible, rational, etc.” A lot of 9s also do not identify with being “peace-makers” (9 FJs tend to be peacemakers; not so much the other type combinations), so they renounce 9 as a possibility, or they see themselves as more aggressive than they actually are (especially if they are 9w8s). 3s will mistype as more “desirable” combinations that align with what they wish they were and/or what the culture idolizes.

„Attention Squishing“ and the Centers
I hadn’t put these on tumblr & it occurred to me that I probably should
So what is in common for all the types is that the dominant center is generally where the person puts most their attention, what is most identified with or most attributed with objective reality, and, on the upper and average levels at least, where you find the person’s greatest strenght, which would also tend to be noted as such by others -
- Mental dominants tend to get read as perceptive and be relied on for advice or clarification, heart types get noted as having a gift for moving other’s feelings or having a certain star quality, impulse types are sometimes noted as being special in their very presence – such as 9s being noted for their „chill aura“.
However, when we get to the low levels, this is where you’d find the greatest dysfunction also – eg. Mental types showing distorted thinking, heart types being all hysteric, impulse types especially showing disordered behavior.
As for the other two centers, that tends to work a bit different between triangle & hexad.
Hexad
Here the case seems to be that the least used center tends to be genuinely off or at least ‚lagging behind‘ or ‚out of the loop‘ in a marked way – it takes effort or, at least conscious choice to engage. You’re doing good if you can manage to, like, not completely neglect this area to the point that you incurr a debilitating blind spot or disadvantage from this – probably you won’t ever be good at this.
7 & 8 – Perception of feelings can be somewhat undifferentiated, difficulty sitting with hurt or opening up to deeper bonds, not the best most receptive listener, in the extreme could get callous or insensitive to others or numbed out to their own experience, low emotional intelligence or show puerile behavior.
However, on the upside, these types are better than the others at brushing off haters, not being too bothered if one person complains about them, and aren’t incumbered by guilt & shame or worries about ppls opinions.
4 & 5 – without the ability to rely on quick judgements it can feel like you didn’t get the manual for life. Your very existence might feel precarious and ungrounded. Having great ideas about all the stuff you’re going to do is no good if you don’t actually do it. In the extreme, contact with reality can get alltogether tenuous or one may neglect to maintain one’s physical body.
So long as its not too extreme tho there is value in wanting one’s actions & choices to be actually based on something rather than just going along with the „common wisdom“ – nothing is taken for granted as simply self-evident.
1 & 2 – At their worst, these are the types most prone to pigheaded conviction that they’re right and can’t be questioned. Feelings and/or arbitrary ideas of how things should be trump all logic.
Looking at average joes rather than villains, one wonders if the greater sensitivity to criticism and guilt/shame tactics is not grounded in a lack of „debunking“ as a defence mechanism.
On the other hand, the ability to act with conviction without being bogged down by worries or stressing about figuring out all the details as much is certainly a plus in some situations.
The Secondary Center, meanwhile, accounts for a fair bit of the individual variability between people because it can be kinda neglected in low average people but a marked strenght in high average ones.
Another variable is the degree to which it is simply the water carrier of the dominant center/ used to bolster its pursuits, or also seen as its own source of information, meaning and problem solving approaches.
1 – Some 1s can be very passionate about causes & having strong feelings behind their opinions, & be like, fiery speech givers, whereas others can be emotionally repressed & overcontrolled.
2 – Some 2s can be quite tenacious, hardy & wilful, others get caught up in self-judgement of their normal human wants or surrender their own will to codependence. Much of their actions are sparked by or in service of outwardly expressing feelings.
Their „core loop“ is to have a feeling, get an impulse to act based on this, & then have more feelings based on what happens. (eg either being happy that the other person liked their spontaneous gift or being insulted that it was spurned)
4 – You get intellectual sophisticates but also ppl who don’t think much at all & refuse to listen to reason. Imagination & reason can be used chiefly to analyze or intensify feelings.
The „core loop“ is of having feelings, then thinking or imagining based on those, & having more feelings based on that...
5 – You get ppl famous for making super evocative art but also ppl who can’t really locate their feelings. Feelings & preferences can be mostly to do with own pursuits rather than being invested in people or external things.
The „core loop“ is of thinking/investigating stuff, then respoding to it, like getting excited scared or indentified with it, & thus investigating it some more.
7 – You get ppl who accomplish & experience an amazing lot of stuff, and others that can’t stay focussed long enough to finish anything or don’t have any reality backing up their imagination, being mostly hot air. Thinking about stuff tends to stimulate desire to act.
The core loop is of imagining stuff, then feeling the impulse to do it & expecting gratification, & then planning some more to make sure you indeed get what you want, and so on.
8 – There are fairly wise, planned-out strategic individuals and impulsive hotheads. Thinking is firstly about how to do, get or get away with what one wants to do. (not, say, cwondering if thats a good idea or scouting out long-range consequences)
Core loop is, you get an impulse to do a thing. You think of a way how. You just react on instinct to whatever happens in response.
Triangle
Here the pattern works somewhat different – There typically isn’t such an extreme ‚offline-ness‘ of any component – for example, I remember an illustrative example of a 6 blogger describing how, though she primarily experienced herself & the world through a mental/conceptual lens, her intuitive impressions & gut feelings were very much present in the „background“ same as her feelings, even if she might not per se „trust“ them (she related learning to do that sometimes with the growth line to 9) – 6s may overrule their first impression with their results of „thinking it through“ but can and often do efficiently react to sudden challenges right away when theres no time to think it through.
So evidently this works different.
Its often said that in the triangle types, misalignment/ low awareness manifests as disconnection between the dominant center and the others but what does that actually mean?
Well.
Stabile puts it as information being taken in with the dominant center but interpreted with the other two, but, its not like you never see 6s making logic based decisions or 9s just going with their first impressions etc. so that cant be the complete story.
In one Hudson’s books you find it describing as there being two separate „modes“, in the dominant center or the other connected pair.
Whereas some of Palmer’s materials on attention patterns, you might spot that the triangle types have a ‚split attention’ between their dominant mode of perception and everything else.
So, who is right or, how do all their observations fit together into a whole?
Eg. what I’m deriving from this is the following: The „split“ of the split attention is not always even but rather can veer more to one side than the other, creating, in extreme, those different „modes“.
So while in the hexad types the „squishing“ of attentions happens sort of horizontally, moving from the less to the more used centers, for the triangle it takes place „vertically“, eg. The attention gets smushed into one of the two compartments.
You can’t completely quit the dominant center (evident in the person’s perception & their speech patterns) so I wouldnot agree that its really equivalent to the way hexad types can really kind of yeet the least used one, but it can get „off“ to a degree not seen in hexad types.
Another distinction here is that the attention can go into either compartment.
Let us illustrate by going into it in detail.
9
9s are often good at doing habitual tasks on automatic using just their sensorimotor faculties while they are at the same time engaged in drifting daydreams made of feelings & imagination.
It may seem contradictory how depending on the source, 9 are described as either overfocusing on the concrete with little introspection, or being totally absorbed in their inner world while doing little & paying no heed to their surroundings – but the answer is that they can do both. There is creature mode & daydream mode.
An individual 9 may tend toward one more than the other depending on their natural talents & inclinations, or one might do either depending on where there is a problem that needs to be escaped.
Partner yelling at you in the here & now? To lala land you go.
After the argument you are sad or having worries about the relationship? Focus on how nice this hot bath feels on your skin.
One source of problems is that if you shift your attention too much in one compartment you can only access the wisdom of the others to a limited degree. If youre stuck in daydream mode you cant acces your vitality & capability to act, but if you’re stuck in creature mode, your actions cant be informed by your thoughts or feelings, so you probably just do habitual actions or tasks & little reflection, planning & feels processing goes on.
Another factor here is that whichever qualities are „not in use“ can be substituted through alignment with the outside. In case of 9, that would be the agendas of others, which can take either the place of your own impulses & drive to action (instead of writing that novel your plotting in your imagination, you spend your time running errands for your neighbors), or your own thoughts & feelings. (you dont have an idea what to do so you rely on external motivations)
This too is sort of double edged, as it can result in a sort of „channeling“ capacity but also in conformism or losing sight of ones own priorities -
Effectively, referencing the outside agenda where you should probably consult your own priorities.
So, „restoring the connection“ for triangle types means trying to have a more even attention split.
3
The split attention here means that you can pay close attention to ppl’s reactions to you & be expressive while being able to combine this with goal oriented thinking.
If you shift one way or another, you get feelings mode or performance mode.
Performance mode allows you to do goal oriented actions based on impulses/quick reactions and planful thinking while putting your personal feelings aside. Feelings mode artists, actors or moderators who can completely mirror the person they’re talking with, take on a role or express a feeling in a song in a „pure“ way not touched by their own wants or thoughts.
Both useful skills, in moderation.
But get stuck in performance mode & you might act without ever considering the impact on the feelings of yourself and others – working yourself to death or cutthroat behavior. This is the most typically described scenario as our current culture alas tends to encourage this.
However, sometimes this is fueled by a sense that if they stopped, they would be stuck or paralized by the backlog of feelings coming over them, & indeed we sometimes get these posters who are kind of stuck after big life tragedies, and are just caught up feeling all insecure, ashamed, too embarassed to show their faces, worried about ppls reactions or how they compare or how they cant win etc… and feeling unable to think or act while in that state.
Which of course can contribute to the conviction that taking time for the fee fees is a liability.
Here the substitution through external alignment comes from cultural ideals and associations, which can be „consulted“ instead of your actual feelings – eg. performing a response based on what the archetypical sucessful businessman would do rather than your own feelings.
Or maybe youre coming from the feelings side like wanting daddy’s approval so you act as he expects instead of what would have resulted from your own plans or desires. Or you plan and desire what you think you should based on what is admired in your environment (& hence gets you feelings of being admired & respected)
6
The classic example given is often that is closely watching a person while also mentally speculating about their agenda or intentions.
Thus lizard brainy awareness of power dynamics, closely watching ones’ surroundings as well as awareness of the relational/ personal level can be combined with astute logical faculties & big-picture thinking which is flexible & agile, and not tangled up with the person’s impulsive cravings or self-image.
Hence why 6s are not nearly as prone to being tactless or full of themselves as 5s or 7s.
In the edge cases you get „thinking mode“ - endless energy to argue stuff or make really really sure you have the right answer, and what Hudson calls „Duty Mode“, though I’m not sure that this characterization is always accurate. Sometimes it is, like simply ducking when someone says duck, acting quickly when there is no time to think. But it can also mean acting impulsively going from feeling straight to action.
You hear some 6s reporting that before a challenging situation they will be filled with worries but during the challenge itself the racing thoughts recede and they just act. (this is a part of what gets some of the more cp ones seeking challenges)
Overdoing or getting stuck in thinking mode is basically analysis paralysis. You think over all the options time & time again but there is no obvious „right“ option, so you just can’t decide (just decide by intuition or based on a like/dislike preferece) whereas the dangers of not thinking at all and just reacting like a hothead should also be clear.
Alignment by substitution means plugging a concept from the outside where the deactivated component should be – like an ideology, a religion, a set of rules, a scientific theory.
So, while in Duty Mode, refering to the rules & procedures rather than thinking it through yourself (note how this is perfectly sensible & useful when there is no time & its a crisis situation, but, not so good as a permanent way or life because you dont trust your thinking) and while in Thinking Mode, having the ideas fill in for your feelings & impulses. (eg. Considering only what you should feel/want/do according to the belief)
Dynamic Attention Squishing
What I want to point out is that this doesnt only happen over the longterm in the overall trajectory of a persons life as they face trauma or healing, shocks and lessons etc. but to a lesser extent happens day to day.
Like your attention being mostly „squished“ into your dominant center (if hexad) or one of the compartments (if triangle) if you have to deal with a sudden challenge.
For example I can recall some fairly extreme situations where ppl where like actually threatening violence, where in hindsight my thoughts in that moment were fairly lucid, like considering my options and the likelihood that the threats would be followed through with, especially given how young I was – and only when the situation was over did my attention focus expand to include my terror or my anger over the humiliation.
An impulse type might instead go to „just reacting“ with their thoughts & feelings only catching up later, whereas an emotional type might first & foremost react on a feelings level – or, in the case of triangle types there is also the option of the opposite happening, getting away from experiencing the dominant center if that will get you away from the distress in that moment.

Enneagram & Movement
If you look into the OG enneagram documents, they didn't even use it as a personality theory. Gurdijeff was never typed with an "ego fixation" until after his death.
The creators of enneagram used it to map processes in nature. Read the Wikipedia page about the original enneagram, pre-Naranjo and pre-Ichazo. The OG theorists never took the movement out of the enneagram like Naranjo did when he wrote his chapters about all the different types as if they are static caricatures rather than moving beings. the original theorists were OBSESSED with movement between the numbers. They were trying to map biology to the hexad types.
In modern enneagram, we are obsessed with pinning ourselves to a static point, which I think is moronic because an enneagram that doesn't move is a dead symbol. Never forget this quote.
In order to understand the enneagram it must be thought of as in motion, as moving. A motionless enneagram is a dead symbol, the living symbol is in motion. - George Gurdijeff
Tritypes based on the head / heart / gut triad were not a thing until Oscar Ichazo made them so. Pre-Ichazo, enneagrammers were concerned with all sorts of "tritypes" beyond the 27 common ones we know. 147, 285, 369, 428, 571, etc. They were even concerned with quadtypes, quintypes and sextypes. There was far more flexibility in their thinking about how to use the enneagram map, as they did not confine themselves to these arbitrary rules that we use in modern enneagram, and they were not obsessed with their own ego fixations.
The Sufis used enneagram as a personality theory, but not in the same way we do in 2022. Again, they were not obsessed with their own egos. They did not go labelling themselves as this number and that number. They explained the points on the enneagram as vices / virtues that all humans have inside of them and all humans can relate to.
-----------
As for me, I type myself the way I do because that is the movement I observe inside of myself. I never saw my fixation as an ego fixation that I needed to "fix" or rid myself of. I saw it as an impartial pattern operating inside of me, for better or for worse. A pattern I enjoy observing, through observing my feelings and reactions and psychological state over time.
I am someone who started from observing the enneagram inside of myself as a moving symbol. Now I am expanding towards seeing it more broadly applicable to things beyond myself and the personalities of people I know. Going back to the basics where we applied it to biological patterns and nature patterns and patterns which weren't our egos. But perhaps starting from inside ourselves and our feelings and our reactions is the best way to develop a framework which lets us understand things more broadly.

Enneagrammatic Alchemical Symbols
Upon reading this write-up made by RafflesiaArnoldii (kendrixtermina) I was inspired to symbolically represent the Enneagram types in an alchemy-esque manner.
Centres of Intelligence & Underlying Fixations
Gut / Impulsive → Anger
Heart / Emotional → Shame
Head / Mental → Dread
Either fixation can manifest in a three-fold manner:
Exteriorised { anger / shame / dread }
Centralised { anger / shame / dread }
Interiorised { anger / shame / dread }
Tumblr media
Note. In hindsight, my symbols for 3 centres of intelligence are akin to how 4 congitive functions are represented in Socionics (〇 for sensation, △ for intuition, □ for thinking/logic, ∟ for feeling/ethics).
Object Relation Triads
Rejection / Transactionalist / Relationist → “Sulphuric”
Attachment / Pragmatist / Adaptive → “Saline”
Frustration / Idealist / Utopian → “Mercurial”
Tumblr media
Hornevian Triads
Assertive / Aggressive → “Idic”
Withdrawn → “Egoic”
Dutiful / Compliant → “Super-Egoic”
Tumblr media
Note. This is based on the theory of scrambling of centres. In hexad types (1/4/7 & 2/5/8), the secondary centre is in service of the primary, whilst the tertiary is (mostly) taken out of the picture; in triangle types (3/6/9), it’s their primary centre that is walled off from the secondary & tertiary centres.
Harmonic Triads
Positive Outlook / Reframing → “Sublimating”
Competency / Procedural → “Dissolving”
Reactivity / Expressing → “Præcipitating”
Tumblr media
Note. Out of the multitude of alchemical processes to represent the harmoning triads I have chosen the following three: sublimation, dissolution, & præcipitation. This was done on the basis of their metaphorical meanings that are in common usage but which have been ultimately derived from their respective primary (al)chemical significations.
to sublimate (← Latin sublīmō “to raise, elevate”)
(alchemy & chemistry) to change directly from the solid to the vapour state without passing through the liquid state
(psychology) to divert the expression of (an instinctual desire or impulse) from its unacceptable base or primitive form to one that is considered more positive or socially or culturally acceptable
Types 2/7/9 cope with an adverse situation by shifting away from it, reframing it into sth positive, habitually searching for silver linings, &c. Thus, they sublimate.
to præcipitate (← Latin præcipitō “throw down, hurl down, throw headlong”)
(alchemy & chemistry) to cause vapour to condense and fall or deposit; to separate a substance out of a liquid solution or suspension into solid form
(common usage) to bring about a certain condition, especially abruptly, sudddenly, and quickly; to fall headlong or act with violent or unwise speed
Types 4/6/8 have an immediate, intense, flaring response or even an outburst to an adverse situation. Thus, they præcipitate.
to dissolve (← Latin dissolvō “to loosen up, break apart”)
(alchemy & chemistry) to disintegrate into a solution by immersion into a liquid or gas
(obsolete usage) to solve; to resolve; to clear up
Types 1/3/5 tend to cope by finding rational, logical solutions. Verbs solve, dissolve, & resolve share the same root. The image that comes to mind is this: analysing the situation at hand (i.e., dissolution) and coming up with the most suitable course of action to deal therewith (i.e., (re)solution).
Constructing an overall symbol (ligature) for each Enneagram type
It is possible to construct a cumulative symbol for each type by combining their respective triadic glyphs into one ligature.
Thus, the Hornevian Triad glyphs for each type would become the base to which the rest of the glyphs would be adjoined.
Then, for hexad types, one would append the respective Object Relation Triad glyph (sulphur for 2/5/8 or mercury for 1/4/7) on top of the base; for triangle types, the salt glyph (for 3/6/9) would instead go underneath.
As for the respective Harmonic Triad glyphs, those would go below everything: the dissolution glyph (for 1/3/5) would be inverted for the purposes of visual congruity; the glyphs for sublimation (for 2/7/9) & præcipation (for 4/6/8) would be used as they are.
Instinctual variants
It is also possible to represent the dominant instinct by adding one of the following to the overall symbol for any Enneagram type:
[ * ] Self-preservation instinct
[ ** ] Sexual instinct
[ *** ] Social instinct
Note. These can be either asterisks or small dots and can be added onto any side of the main symbol. To represent all of the instincts from the dominant to the blind-spot, one can simply stack the asterisks or dots on top of each other accordingly.

The hexad types are fairly simple structurally. One centre flows into another, while the third is disconnected and generally unused. However, in the triangle types, the dominant centre is disconnected from the other two, leading to a more flip-flopping quality.

@ourflagmeansroleplay sent for a meme (and my selfindulgent tags lol)

LOL REN. my favourite cereal is this generic brand nutella filled ones.
💭 — MBTI and/or enneagram, if known :: i’m not as into MBTI after learning the creators were into eugenics, but i always went about it heavily with jungian cognitive functions rather than the I/E, S/N scales anyway. but INTP. and yes lol the enneagram is a special interest of mine and i could actually ramble about the whole theory but since the question is just what my type is XD i’m a self-pres/social 5, probably with a 4-wing but slightly up in the air about the possibility of a 6-wing since attachment wings are difficult to see if you’re a hexad type. trifix 549.

If the Paradox Pokémon visited the F-Zero Universe (not intentionally a sequel to the F-Zero racers as Pokémon Trainers post but it can be if you like). Not in any particular order just because I thought some were better off as pairs/groups
Walking Wake visits Big Blue and swims in the oceans. The rest of the Proto Beasts and Neo Swords follow it there (actually they probably teleported due to one of the Neo Swords) but don’t understand the hype of the water. At some point the group goes to Green Plant, which Wake claims is the perfect place for Iron Leaves to exist. Leaves points out that not all Grass-types are perfectly content with a forest but it does admittedly not prove its point. Gouging Fire decides to check out Fire Field, Iron Boulder insists they visit Red Canyon, Raging Bolt goes to Lightning and Iron Crown takes the group to Cosmo Terminal. They go as a hexad because they decided they were sticking together although Crown insists that no one else will be that interested in Cosmo Terminal. Somehow they end up going to every single location in the SNES game, X and GX (maybe except Sector and Casino Palace) and possibly even Mist Flow, Illusion and the MV locations (assuming Mist Flow and Illusion exist in the main timeline. Also the MV locations probably don’t have race courses yet)
Roaring Moon discovers that the year is 2671. Things do not go well from here. Iron Valiant tries to protect the universe from Moon (and admittedly does an extremely good job). And then becomes an F-Zero racer
Great Tusk tries to participate in the Grand Prix to prove that it is “great”, while Scream Tail points out every single time Tusk mentions this that the “great” actually refers to Tusk’s height and/or long tusks, not how objectively good it is
Iron Moth discovers that the locations Sulfur Swamp and Volcania were scrapped and gets sad because that’s the only reason it came here. Iron Jugulis comforts Moth and the two of them somehow end up meeting each of the racers
Iron Bundle and Iron Hands go on a romantic trip to White Land and eventually meet up with Jugulis and Moth to go check out the racers. Also the two of them are probably really into the idea of Falcon and Robert getting together and try everything to get them together, even things like Hands moving the Blue Falcon and Golden Fox to be closer together (only when they’re not in use obviously)
When Scream Tail finally gets a break from reluctantly hanging around with Great Tusk, it takes Flutter Mane to see the different hair salons (they’ve gotta have good hair stylists there, have you seen how Robert and Jack style their hair?) and just get the craziest hairstyles you’ve ever seen
Iron Treads and Iron Thorns prank Mr. Zero. When Thorns is done with the pranks, it chills with Sandy Shocks, who is just vibing to the awesome music (they both vibe to it)
Brute Bonnet and Slither Wing… idk
Koraidon is interested in the races and Miraidon gets an upgrade turning it into an F-Zero machine called the Iron Serpent. Iron Valiant is probably the racer. I think Koraidon just watches them on the side supporting Miraidon

Random ruminations on ego/Self & preconscious vs. conscious totality
Personality is probably a supposed attempt at damage control by the ego on the Self's behalf. It is akin to the archetypal protection of females (Self) by males (ego) despite the risk of torment, but through the male protector's (ego's) suffering, the females (Self) in this case likewise suffer from their protector's loss of vitality, and so are disadvantaged nonetheless.
So the Self has the option to either do battle and suffer the full impact of living in this reality (instead of merely existing in the background), or rely more on the ego and eventually suffer nonetheless.
Put another way, the containing illusions of the ego act as an efficient defense against life's blows (efficient because the ego is concentrated as in compulsive and therefore pointed like a spear), as if by bringing one concentrated/spear-like aspect or pattern of the self to the fore as armor, one minimizes the damage done to the edgeless, "rounded" Self — but in so doing, it gets smothered with protectiveness, or is forced into being bottled up by the small ego-container until it is lost to sight and eventually forgotten.
We thereby neutralize our intrinsic complexity and reduce ourselves into a manageability that will make the world likewise manageable for us.
In the context of the Enneagram, the 9 uses a quasi-edgeless ego to protect the edgeless Self, thereby failing to protect it by assuming premature identity with it (unchecked presumption and imposition of harmony/unity — that is, neglect). The other types, on the other hand, use a too pointed ego to protect the edgeless Self, thereby failing to protect it by splitting it.
In both cases, it is masochism in order not to feel something worse... that is, the fuller suffering that comes with living the fuller self.
This puts me in mind of the Blakean pattern of "innocence/experience/redeemed innocence" in that 9s remain in innocence (sloth) and cannot commit the heroic act of cutting off from paradise behind (innocence) in order to catalyze the journey towards paradise ahead (redeemed innocence). As Carl Jung once said, "In contradiction to the saying of Christ, the faithful try to remain children instead of becoming as children." The trap for 9s is that they cannot distinguish between the preconscious totality they are enwombed in from the conscious totality they must attain to unless they are able to see through a differentiated lens to begin with. This probably applies to the other Attachment types in some other way.
Conversely, the Hexad types, I assume, are laboring in the limbo of experience, but are no longer in connection with the Archimedean point of paradise, and so have to get to a thing they are blind to, for how can one discern totality if one is entrenched in a pattern that insists on merely one definite, concentrated aspect of it?

Data Augmentation-The Cutting-edge Capabilities of Deep Learning
If you are new to deep learning, you may have heard of the term “data augmentation.” It is a technique that is used to artificially increase the size of a training dataset. This can be done by applying various transformations to the existing data, such as flipping, rotating, and cropping the images.
Tumblr media
Data augmentation is an important technique in deep learning because it can help prevent overfitting. Overfitting occurs when a model learns the training data too well and is unable to generalize to new data. By artificially increasing the size of the training dataset, data augmentation can help prevent overfitting and improve the performance of the model on new data.
As the name implies, "data augmentation involves increasing the amount of data. In this context, data refers to ‌ information used for deep learning purposes.” It’s a straightforward concept that focuses on expanding the dataset. As simple as it gets…
Crucial Note: The codes and additional tutorials can be readily found on the internet with just a simple Google search. I am here to provide an explanation regarding the significance of data augmentation applications during the training of our deep learning model.
Tumblr media
Imagine you’re studying a numerical text and solving some questions. Later, I come to you after a few hours and ask you some questions based on the same text. Merely reading the text once wouldn’t make you a genius who can comprehend every possible type of question that may arise in exams.
Realizing this, you decide to approach the text differently the second time around. This time, you begin by exploring new questions before revisiting the text to find the answers to those unfamiliar questions. By doing so, your mind becomes more adaptable and versatile when it comes to the data you’re attempting to grasp.
You also make a conscious effort to answer more and more questions, each presenting a new challenge or technique to apply. Quality over quantity becomes your motto for exam preparation.
As a result, your performance improves significantly, and you should definitely reward yourself for the progress you’ve made!
Celebrate this achievement!
Data augmentation involves the artificial generation of new training data from existing data by applying specialized techniques specific to the domain. These techniques produce unique and distinct training examples, expanding the dataset.
As a powerful tool in deep learning, data augmentation enables models to learn from diverse and augmented data, leading to improved performance, generalization, and robustness. Reasons behind applying data augmentation:
Better Feature Extraction
Mitigated Bias
Reduced Overfitting
Improved Model Robustness
To increase the dataset size
Increased Training Data
Here is an example of image augmentation: increasing the number of images. Candid!
As per our research and experience, a single image can also be a part of data augmentation. At Hexad, we have experimented. Let’s say, eight distinct versions of one image; with a dataset of 1000 images; we can create a staggering 8000 images in total.
It’s truly a remarkable transformation!
Now let’s elaborate on some of the remarkable benefits with which we have experimented with our augmentation team.
To increase the dataset size
In the realm of deep learning, there exists a notable principle: the more data available, the higher the potential for improved performance.
However, at Hexad, our software development team has verified that it’s important to exercise caution, as this principle can lead to the risks associated with overfitting.
For example, imagine you possess a limited image dataset, which may not be substantial enough to yield satisfactory results. In such a scenario, how can you enhance the performance of your deep learning model with this limited amount of data?
Our team of data augmentation specialists stated about the savior, “Image Augmentation.” This technique comes to the rescue, enabling you to augment your small dataset and transform it into a more substantial and valuable resource.
Make our model more robust
There is a popular saying that having a generalized model is superior to one that is either overfitted or underfitted.
Our team has finalized that one effective way to achieve model generalization is through image augmentation.
Data augmentation, specifically image augmentation, is just one of the many aspects that contribute to making our deep learning model more generalized.
I trust that this friendly introduction to the concept of data augmentation has provided you with a concise overview, enabling you to continue learning without any hesitations. If you need any further assistance on the topic, please visit our website: Hexad-Data Augmentation-The Cutting-edge Capabilities of Deep Learning.
Thank you for taking the initiative to seek assistance!

Color Vocabulary
Achromatic. The total absence of color: Comprised only of black, gray and white values.
Additive color. Color created by mixing the rays of white light, from which all color is derived. The spectrum of color exists within the rays of white light. Superimposing the three additive primaries (RGB), which when reversed will create white light.
Analogous Color. Colors that are closely related in hue. They are side-by-side on the color circle. Three to five colors in order constitute an analogous color harmony. They are basically a family of hues.
Atom. The smallest particle of an element that still retains the properties of any given element. The atom is the mother-ship with a cargo of smaller particles and units, including the all-important color quark.
Brilliance. Same as the word intensity, which refers to the change in the lightness in any given hue.
Chroma/Chromatic. Pertains specifically to the presence of color. The opposite of Achromatic.
Chiaroscuro. The average gradation of values from light to dark. A type of tonal shifting across a curved or variable surface, which is responsible for creating volume and mass. The skilled use of Chiaroscuro is to create believable space or the illusion of form, on a flat surface.
Color. Color is the visually revealed component of light. Color possesses certain physiological factors, which are accompanied by various psychological ramifications, and symbolic elements. The symbolic and psychological aspects of color are at variance, since they are determined by specific cultural perceptions.
Color Dyad. A color harmony consisting of two opposing colors on the color circle. Another definition for dyads is a complementary color scheme.
Color Hexad. A color harmony comprised of six colors. A hexagon within the color circle determines specific color orders. The color order is designated by the points where each line meets. A hexad is made-up of three complementary pairs.
Color Tetrad. A color harmony comprised of four colors. A tetrad can exist in two forms. The first is a perfect square inscribed within the color circle. Each point where lines connect will determine the harmony color order. The second form of a tetrad harmony can be determined by inscribing a rectangle in the color circle. The same method determines the color order as before. Tetrads contain two primary colors and their complements, or a complementary pair of intermediates.
Color Triad. A color harmony containing three colors. A triad is an equilateral triangle inscribed within the color circle. Color harmony is determined by the point where each line meets. Primary and secondary triads are the most common.
Color Quarks. Contained within the atom are baryon particles, each one containing three quarks. Each baryon bundle of three quarks contains one red, one green, and one blue quark. Together, these constitute the additive primary colors. Constantly colliding, these quarks form white light, the sum of all colors.
CMYK. An acronym for digital color: Cyan, magenta, yellow and black. They are the subtractive colors of inks in a printer. Color while on the monitor is referred to as RGB additive color, but when printed it becomes CMYK subtractive color.
Complementary Color. Two colors directly opposite of each other on the color circle. The three basic complements are comprised of one primary and one secondary, such as Red and green, yellow and violet and blue and orange.
Electromagnetic Spectrum. A chart representing every possible radiation emitted from high energy gamma rays (shortest waves) to low energy radio waves (longest waves). Visible light, which equates to the spectrum of colors, is located in the center of the spectral chart between the gamma and radio waves spectrum.
Hue. Hue is the common name of a color and indicates its position in the spectrum or color circle. Hue is determined by the specific wavelength of the color in a ray of white light.
Intensity. Intensity is the degree or amount of saturation strength, or purity in any particular hue. Intensity also refers to brightness, whereas its cousin, which is saturation refers to purity. Intensity then, refers to a certain level of brightness in a given hue, as well as its amount strength of purity in a given color.
Intermediate Color. A color produced by the mixture of one primary and one secondary color. In the color circle, it is located between any single primary and secondary color. It is also referred to as tertiary color.
Key Color. When referring to key, we generally say that there are two states of existence for keys, that is to say high key and low key colors. High key is very bright, or think of a composition being very light, a tendency toward overall brightness or clarity. Low key is a dull state, or overall darker composition. Think of tints for high key and shades for low key. High key tends, at times to be somewhat radiant, where low key is not. Intermediate key is simply that; a means to be more specific.
Light. The revealed source of component colors within the electromagnetic system of wavelengths, known as the visible spectrum of color.
Local Color. Local, or objective color is the perceived notion about the color we see. It is what we think we see, as opposed to what the eye actually sees.
Monochromatic. Having only one hue with a complete range of values. So, a monochromatic blue composition will have a range or variable of values from light to dark blues.
Neutrals. 1. The inclusion of all color wavelengths will produce white, and the absence of any wavelengths will be perceived as black. With neutrals, no single color is noticed—only a sense of light and dark, or the range from white through gray to black. 2. A color altered by the addition of its complement, so that the original sensation of hues is lost or grayed.
Neutralized Color. A color that has been grayed or reduced in intensity by being mixed with any of the neutrals, or with a complementary color.
Optical Color. A type of additive color when two or more colors are closely juxtaposed. When viewed from a distance these combinations of colors appear to blend optically to produce colors other than those seen as local colors. When positioned closely together, they are perceived as a new color. Optical color is what your eye actually perceives, as opposed to what you think you see.
Pigment. Physical color substances, both natural and synthetic, that can be mixed to cover another tangible surface. Pigments are added to liquid vehicles, such as egg yolk or linseed oils to produce paints or inks, and are considered subtractive color.
Primary Color. The preliminary hues that cannot be broken down in order to make other component colors. The basic hues in any subtractive color system that in theory may be used to mix all other colors (red, yellow and blue). In theory, all color of subtractive pigments mixed produce black. Additive primary colors are the primaries of light (red, green and blue). All colors of the additive primary lights mixed produce white (light).
Reflected Color. The absolute truest color of any particular object is revealed by reflected color. It’s true color is separated from the other spectral colors, when the remaining colors are absorbed into that object’s surface. A red apple appears to be red because the red is reflected back into the viewer’s eyes, while the remaining spectrum of colors is absorbed into the apple’s surface. Basically, the molecular constitution of the apple’s surface recognizes the ray of red light only.
Refracted Light. The bending of light as it travels from one transparent medium to another, such as when light travels through two pieces of glass, through a white diamond, or when light travels from air to water.
Saturation. In pigment, it is the absolute purity of a given hue. It is total freedom from black, gray or white; it is the pure state of a color, or full strength. In additive color of prismatic hues, it is the color spectrum, which possesses the maximum saturation of a hue.
Secondary Color. A color produced by a mixture of two primary colors on the color circle, which are Orange, Green and Violet.
Shade. The addition of black to a given hue. Shading gradates from white to gray on the value scale, in that order.
Simultaneous Contrast. When two different colors, such as complements come into direct contact with one another, creating a neutral gray zone between them. The contrast intensifies the difference between the two, and in many cases a thin gray line will appear at the point where the colors come together. This is particularly true when saturated red is joined to its complement of green, which will produce a very obvious gray line between them. The two complements have visually cancelled each other at that juncture. Basically, the eye mixes the two complements, and cancels (neutralizes) them between.
Split-Complements. One specific color plus the two colors that exist on either side of its complement. An example would be a yellow and its complement violet. An example would be yellow and its complement of violet. One half of violet would be added to red, producing warm violet, and the other half of the violet would then be added to blue, which produces a cool violet. Therefore, the split complement is comprised of yellow, red-violet, and blue-violet. It is in effect a non-equilateral triangle of three colors.
Subjective Color. Color resulting from the mind, which demonstrates a personal viewpoint, particular bias, mood or emotion. Color combinations that tend to produce creative or original results.
Subtractive Color. The sensations of color that are produced by wavelengths of light, which are reflected back to the viewer’s eyes after all other colors have been absorbed by the object. For example, the surface of a green leaf has a particular molecular constitution that is only recognized by green in the spectrum of visual light. All other colors are not accepted, and are absorbed into the leaf, rather than reflected back to the eye.
Temperature. The colors of the spectrum, which are observed in their warm to cool and cool to warm order. Warm colors are red, orange and yellow. Cool colors are green, blue, indigo, and violet. Violet can be either warm or cool, depending on whether it is closer to the red side of the color wheel, or the blue side respectively.
Tertiary Color. Most refer to this as interchangeable with the word intermediate.
Tint. The addition of white to a given hue. Tinting is a gradient from gray to white on the value scale, in that order. Tinting tends to brighten a color.
Tone. Any hue with a combination of white and black, which reflects the overall value of a composition. The general tone of a composition can refer to the tints and shades throughout a given composition, which is responsible for its overall ambiance.
Value. The relative degree of lightness or darkness, or light to dark gradations, which can be seen on a gray scale. Chiaroscuro is much the same in this respect.Visible Spectrum. A band of seven individual colors that results when a beam of white light is broken into its component wavelengths, which we can identify as particular hues. Located in the center of the electromagnetic spectrum in the form of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (blue-green), and violet.

Potential 6w7 Description
I've been kicking around the idea of rewriting much, much longer wing descriptions since what's out there is pretty brief and doesn't touch on hexad/attachment/frustration/competency influences. This one is stream of consciousness -- and a bit abstract, but what do you think? Does it capture the conflicting energies of a 6w7 or fit the 6w7 experience? (I'm not sure how much my own super-ego is influencing it, or if other 6w7s beat up on themselves as much.)
--------------------------------------
Tumblr media
The 6w7 is an attachment type (struggling between individualization and adaptation) with an assertive wing (moving against others to get what I want), which means a “likable brat.” They think they must earn the things they want. They are heady and have a busy brain, using re-framing and idealization as an excuse to remain attached to the things they care about (people, causes, belief systems, or teachers) even when they are dissatisfied with them. They possess a strong ego telling them to be more loyal, or a more selfless friend, or to have everyone’s best interests at heart, but also a pull toward ignoring what’s going wrong, or skip over difficult things and indulging more secret, selfish desires. (“I want the best things in life… and I don’t want to wait.”)
They may feel a compulsive need to leave intense, threatening, or emotional situations where they are forced to deal with other people’s emotions, feeling unsettled or dissatisfied with them (or even angry that they must put up with people’s unpleasant feelings), but be held back by fear or loyalty, which keeps them from running away. (“I can’t deal with you and your crybaby ways anymore, but it’s a long drive home in a thunderstorm, so I guess I am stuck here.”) Their automatic stance is skepticism but also loyalty; they don’t want to accuse people without proof, and will react defensively if others criticize people they like or see as an authority figure, while not realizing how suspicious they can be in the early stages of attachment. They may not question their loyalties so much as reframe them or focus on the positive; not wanting to miss out through non-attachment. (For example, being dissatisfied within a relationship but not leaving it, because of thinking they should be loyal and give the other person the benefit of the doubt, or that a better, more ideal version of themselves would stay and fix this. Their dissatisfaction might turn inward, to a super-ego tendency to self-blame or find fault with oneself – “I am too critical, this is just who they are” – while longing for them to live up to an ideal that avoids any unpleasantness. The 6w7 wants to have fun and may not want to deal with difficult emotions within a relationship; the ideal partner or friend would reassure their fears while not causing any more angst—provide the support they crave and also keep things light.) A 6w7 might get annoyed by people who are chronically negative, because it ruins their desire to be positive and less fearful or worried.  They are actively trying to be positive, even though their default is to focus on what’s wrong/bad and draw attention to it.
Because so much of the 7’s need for pleasure, distraction, and constant fun is influencing the 6, they may get angry or annoyed at others who are sharing negative feelings, and think that person is toxic, while assuming they are trying to focus on what’s good, exciting, and fun. “I came here to have a good time, and now you are ruining it” angry reactivity.
Because of the double head energy, they see others as less logical or rational than they are, when in reality, they are busy over-thinking and skipping over problems; it’s either too much, and they are strategically trying to plan for every possible outcome, or they are assuming it’s all going to turn out fine and insisting everything is okay.
They may move from fear straight into fantasizing and envisioning unrealistic scenarios that excite or energize them; sometimes ignoring all that came before in an attempt to salvage a relationship (“we had all these problems, but now that you are speaking to me again, I am planning all the fun things we can do together and forgetting how much we hurt each other!”). They may yo-yo back and forth between attachment and distance, sending people mixed signals and being inconsistent. This stems from eagerly moving forward, then becoming afraid they exposed too much of themselves and made themselves vulnerable, and backing away to protect their emotions.
They are too quick to idealize and skip past any discomfort, without dealing with the emotions involved. Though they are dutiful and hard-working, they can also be restless and flirtatious with ideas—leaping on something they are sure will fix their life, getting bored, and dropping it. They waffle between self-control (the super-ego desire to be better and live up to an ideal) and over-indulgence, like denying themselves too much on a diet, only to binge eat fattening foods. Their gluttony comes out in the form of “too much” – I’ve eaten three donuts, I might as well finish the box; I’ve already spent a lot of money today, I may as well spend more; it’s 11:30, I can stay up until 1.
Unfortunately, these things feel shallow and unfulfilling, and they want more in an attempt to erase the inner emptiness. There is a sense of longing and chronic dissatisfaction beneath their loyalty – the sense that something is always missing, that it could be better. They tend to focus and dwell on the negatives within their relationships, while idealizing the perfect relationship and wishing they could possess it. They may come out of an experience disappointed that it wasn’t more fulfilling or deeper, or be angry at themselves for not forming the connection they desired and turn to self-analyzing rather than direct action (“I feel distant, this isn’t how it’s supposed to be… why can’t I open myself up more? … why do I have trust issues?”). Being a super-ego center, the blame often falls on themselves for anything they did wrong, while they also want to assert themselves and deny, in a 7ish way, that they are to blame at all of any emotional upsets. “It’s not my fault they are so sensitive! I was just pointing out the truth!” They will adamantly deny having bad intentions; argue that others are too emotional, etc., only to be hard on themselves in secret and doubt whether they are a good person or not.
6w7s move eagerly toward others, hoping to connect and to have fun – seeing people as a security net, but being angry with those who stand in their way or bring negativity to the table. They will “be against” whatever others are too much for because of their discomfort with a settled consensus (a consensus means nobody has thought about or questioned this enough), using the 6 contrarian and the 7 enjoyment of stirring up things to avoid boredom to do the opposite of whatever is happening. (You are negative so I am positive today; you seem unrealistic and overly enthusiastic, so I will be realistic and negative.)  The less they like a person, the more quarrelsome they can become in terms of playing a game of opposites. And they may provoke people just to alleviate their own boredom, then become anxious about having stirred the waters too much and caused conflict.
Because of all the intense energy 7 brings, the 6w7 stays busy to avoid anxiety; they always need to be planning out their time, mentally preparing for things, and thinking about how best to proceed. They think in terms of self-rewarding systems; rewarding themselves for doing hard, difficult, or boring tasks with a treat on the other end of it. (“Once I finish my homework, I can eat that chocolate bar!”) They live in the present as a 6, handling and worrying about whatever is going wrong, but also are full of anticipation of a 7 for whatever will be happening next that is fun and entertaining. They love to imagine and plan.
When anxious or faced with a decision, the 6 agonizes over it, secretly fearful that one wrong decision will set them down a dangerous path full of unseen terrors. Either the 6w7 will get mired in this and painfully engage in chronic, unproductive over-thinking and second guessing, or they will distract themselves with busy thoughts, constant momentum, or planning (to-do lists, future fun, places to go, self-rewards). They want to make things special and honor occasions, as excuses to self-indulge (“when I finish this task I can have a treat!” “My cat’s birthday is a legitimate excuse to make a cake!”), because they think they have to justify their “selfish” desires. They are constantly torn between the 6’s natural frugality and the 7’s gluttony—they may spend nothing for a month, and then spend far too much in one day; or eat right for a week, only to blow it all on the weekends; or stick to a boring task for three days and then do nothing but watch movies for four.
6s are more able to go deep and sit with things longer than 7s, but there’s also a discomfort with prolonged pain. Difficult experiences tend to slip away from them and fade, almost too quickly, and then they wonder what’s wrong with them because they  seem to move on from certain things “too soon.” But it’s hard for them to hold onto the pain without drifting away from it. Other things catch up to them and mire them in self-doubt, or re-thinking in an attempt to frame things positively (“this relationship went sour; why did it happen, and what’s my role in it, and how best can I think about them going forward?”). They combat their fears with optimism, resorting to happy platitudes and over-cheerfulness – “It’s all going to be okay,” “It’s all for the best,” “There’s a good reason why this happened, I will find it in time,” “This leaves me free to pursue new things!” – while perhaps secretly doubting any of that, or questioning their own tendency to re-frame. (Am I just trying to make the best out of a bad situation? Am I not facing reality?) They are so stuck in their heads that they use “thinking” as a distraction from reality or to avoid moving forward in a scary world. They want to focus on the good or the fun and skip over sadness rather than feel it.
The 7 is disconnected to the heart center, which means 6w7s who use doing over feeling won’t be in touch with their own emotions, and will attempt to intellectualize, distance themselves, and think through things rather than simply feel them. They will try to “think about” their feelings rather than just having them.
They want security and permanence, something to attach to that is safe, reliable, and trustworthy, but also to keep their options open. They have anxiety about commitment—because they are unsure if they can trust the other person wholeheartedly, and know they will attach for life and be loyal to that individual, which means limiting their options and narrowing their focus. This is their ultimate goal, but until they find that sense of security within a relationship, they will be distant, distrusting, provocative, or push people to find out how they are going to react and test them to look for compatibility. Feeling threatened raises the desire within them to flee the situation or to fight.
6w7s wait to make up their mind, consider everything carefully, gather all the facts before coming to a decision, and want to not take a position too soon based only on emotions, but may be in denial of how much they over-think or in how exasperating this is to other people. They may delay saying yes to things that might not be enjoyable, unaware that they are waiting for a “better offer,” and leaving others to feel neglected. (Being accused of being unreliable, hurtful or someone who wouldn’t be there for a friend in a crisis is painful to them, since it attacks their need to be seen a good, loyal friend. The 6 feels like they should be there, no matter what, and the 7 wants to see themselves in a good light.)
6w7s are easily influenced by others’ opinions, and inclined to second-guess themselves, especially when it comes to limiting rather than expanding their options. It’s exciting for them to think of many different things to choose, and they don’t like to limit themselves in any way, even though their own fear and need to “think first” limits them in the first place! It may take them forever to make up their mind, or they may be impulsive and leap into things (more so with less serious decisions than life-altering ones), only to find it hard to “wait” to get what they want.
They don’t want to get tangled up in “personal” stuff; they want to stay busy and get things done. They prioritize doing what’s best for everyone involved, but also push hard for what they want and pull away from their emotions. They can over-identify with a contrarian stance, which means that “we are not alike.” 6s focus on dissimilarities and what doesn’t fit, as part of their unconscious strategy to identify risks. They see what about themselves isn’t like other people and over-identify with it (which is why so many of them mistype as 4s); they become attached to the idea of being different, counter-cultural, pointing out their uniqueness, or adamantly saying “That doesn’t fit me,” as a strategy to avoid over-attachment. It’s a way to feel more autonomous.
They want to connect to you, but resist anything that does not seem logical or trustworthy. They may be unaffected by life, or disengaged from their emotions in favor of “logic.” An argument with a friend might turn into a stubborn refusal to be emotional (they think they are rational and detached, but on the surface are reactive and wounded), in a contrarian, adversarial response to being hurt. 6w7s simultaneously lose trust for people who betray or hurt or disappoint them, and try to think positively about that person, causing a duality between the distance they will employ to protect themselves (never going to trust you fully again) and their ideal relationship with this person (we can keep working on it, because that’s what good friends do). If someone proves to be reliable and trustworthy to the 6, say by defending them in a tough spot, all doubt and anxieties about attaching to them fades and the 6 can become close instantly. But any sign of trouble or hardship, any need to sit a long time with pain, or any threat of being hurt, and they back away. This may cause them feelings of guilt, especially if fear holds them back from being a “true friend” in the way they idealize (“a true friend would have gotten on that plane… but I thought about it too long/too much/rationalized my way out of it because I got scared”).
It’s not their first choice to abandon other people, causes, or beliefs, so they complain about them instead—showing their frustration with a less than ideal relationship or situation, but not doing anything about it. They rehash the same thing over and over, fraught with inertia, because they feel attached to the same thing that is causing them frustration. Their tendency is to find fault from a critical perspective, then try to combat it through re-framing and positivity. They feel angry at themselves for being too indecisive or feeling like they have no true north; I can’t trust me, and I don’t know if I can trust you, so I avoid anything too scary or hard.

An Overview of Common Systemic Mistypes
I hadn’t put these on tumblr & it occurred to me that I probably should
I find it very, very fascinating how a lot of the common mistypes are „asymetric“ because, while its also impacted by bad descriptions, its also indicative of differences in perception.
For example, you see 3s thinking they're 5s but rarely the other way around. Cause the 3 looks at the list of core fears and thinks of it as "what do I not want anyone to call me", & in that context "worthless" and "incompetent" seem like synonyms. But it rarely happens the other way cause your average 5 generally knows they don't have 3-esque social adaptability or strong responsiveness to external motivation.
Few mistypes really go both ways - though, a few do, such as 7 and 5, 6 and 1, 6 and 2 and maybe 9 and 6.
Hexad Types
Generally tend to have it down to 2 or 3 options right away.
1 – 5, 6 or 8
8 because they’re assertive & leader-like & make quick decisions (the 8s themselves generally know theyre not superego types), 6s because especially the sp 1s can be anxious about making mistakes, and 5 cause thats sometimes simplified as „the stoic one“ & also because they’re intuitives and don’t see themselves in the more STJ sounding 1 descriptions/ think of themselves as logical rather than conformist. But even Si using 1s will chose their own inner standards over the official rules.
Also, 1s are very logical in their own way but they run more on efficient quick judgements than the explicit conceptual constructs that head types use.
The range of 1 is also generally not well represented in descriptions. If you’re xSTJ and were raised old fashioned, you’re in luck, but if you’re under 40, a fe type and/or an intuitive you may not see yourself reflected.
2 - 4 or 6.
4 because they hear that's "the emotional one", and 6 because they tend to worry or be concerned about relationships, so they think they must be "the anxious one".
Sometimes the 2 descriptions skew toward sp and 2w1 which can give this „responsible, mother-like“ impression. 2w3s are actually pretty passionate (sometimes to the point of histrionics)
You seldom see one asking for help outright, generally it's a question about their significant other or some friend they have beef with, but the more they talk the more its all feelings no logic and obviously not a 6.
4 – sometimes land on 1 because they see themselves as having „strong values“. But those are usually more feeling-based preferences (particularly, marked dislikes) than categorical „rules“, and they are not restrained or super organized.
Another issue is that since they’re by definition „picky“ about what they relate to or identify with, they pick apart the definition, „Well I thought I might be a 4 but this part here doesn’t fit at all!“, or „these definitions all disagree!“ (& often they’re pointing out very real inconsistencies)
So they can also say „none fits!“ out of not wanting to be boxed but in a very different way than 9 or 6. Less not wanting to pick and more complaining that even the closest option doesn’t describe exactly them – of course not, as the description is trying to capture the rough commonalities of individuals of varying instincts, cultures, levels of health…
5 – 7 or 4.
Which seem to genuinely be the most similar types? But of course it would seem that way to me. xD
It certainly points to a tedency to experience oneself as more excitable and/or more tormented than one is typically perceived by others.
The ones landing on 7 are usually social doms who are not that conversationally challenged, or Percieving types who think of themselves as having more diverse interests, whereas the landing on 4 is once again down to the misconception that that’s „the creative one“.
Our present society is somehow under the misconception that reason & creativity are somehow opposites. Wouldve been news to DaVinchi.
7 – 3, 5 or 4
Down to simplistic misconceptions as „the intellectual one“ or „the creative one“
7 is also an intellectual & often profoundly creative type & occupies that same space of being sorta in the middle of the lexical vs impressionistic scale.
The difference rather comes down to how 7 is more extroverted, optimistic & confident whereas 4 or 5 would be introverted, cynical and doomery.
7s tend to underestimate their extroversion & are just as often found in the moderate/“ambiverted“ region as among really pronounced extroverts.
The confusion with 3 happens due to the outward resemblance, both like attention, are charming, optimistic & love to cultivate many skills etc. but 7s are not always vigilant about how theyre looking or having it „under control“ like 3s are.
8 – 7, 5 or 4
Mostly cause they don’t see themselves in the „bossy“ descriptions. Some might land on 7 ‚cause that‘s the „pleasure-seeking, vivacious“ one, or, if they’re more on the standoffish side and land on 5 or 4 because they see themselves as misunderstood lone wolves. 8 is one of those types where inward experience & outward perception can diverge alot.
Attachment Types
3 – 5, 4 or 8.
Cause they think 8 is „the dominant one“ (3s are in fact the type most likely to be described as dominant or „alpha“ – 8s dont want to be screwed with & to make an impact, and sometimes being a leader makes this easier, but are just as likely to be standoffish lone wolves, but 3s are generally the ones that explicitly want to be leaders & ascend hierarchies. )
Likewise, 3s are often attracted to novel technologies but you won’t see that mentioned in a lot of places, so thus-inclined 3s who are justly proud of their 1337 tech sk!lz often think they must be 5s especially if they’re introverts.
4 mostly happens to ppl who have it as a wing & corresponsibly have a marked sense of their flaws & desire for special significance, but they still deal with it in a distinctly 3-ish way by trying to compensate for their shortcomings & earn significance through archievement.
Sometimes they think to be a 3 you must always conform to what’s popular like a robot, but that’s not how any of the attachment types work.
6 – land on other reactives, or just their wing. We can cut them some slack because of the often terribly boring sounding 6 descriptions in which it is often made to sound neither intellectual nor authentic. So of course they point at the other intellectual or reactive types & go, quite correctly, „im like these!“
Also often end up stuck between rather different-seeming types or splitting their various traits into two sides, such as between 4 and 8 or being between 8 and 1, due to the „complex“/“pendulum swing“ quality of 6.
9 – 9w8s can really think they’re any type and often don’t relate to doormat-sounding descriptions, because they don’t strictly avoid all conflict (only what would jeopardize importantrelationships) & hate being bossed around. They often have more emphasis on resisting being influenced than adapting to the environment.
9w1s meanwhile usually still land in the withdrawn triad. Sometimes 4 cause they heard thats „the creative one“ or that positive triad means always being happy go lucky, or, if they’re xxTPs in the mbti and/or sp doms they might land on 5 cause they indentify with being „logical“ and/or very strongly introverted.
Alternatively, especially if they're Fe types, they can also land on 2 since both are high-empathy types who feel driven to help others. However, 2s are much more proactive in approaching ppl (sometimes to the point of being meddlesome), which 9s generally aren't.
If someone is still confused despite having studied the subject in depht (especially if they’re clearly neither stupid nor using simplistic definitions) its usually one of those.
It’s important to stress that this is not because 9 or 6 are „leftover categories“, but because their specific biases interfere with the particular task of „sort yourself into one of these boxes“.
We all have glaring blindspots/biases.
Mine is missing 90 % of my direct surroundings and nonverbal communication…
It’s not just about being confused (anyone can be confused) but specific patterns of confused-ness:
3 – Thinks they might’ve been different types at different points in their lives, or with different people.
9 – "they all sound so relatable!“ ie, struggling to percieve contrasts. (often with the exception of the wing they don’t have, like a 9w1 says „I m pretty sure im not 8 at least“)
6 – Every time they decide, they immediately go, „but what if I’m wrong??“ or see some little thing that makes them question it again. That is precisely the whole passion of doubt/fear thing.
Some may also lowkey resist coming to a conclusion for some unconscious fear of losing that all-important adaptability.
But also, these just notice more how they’re different in different situations, and less the throughline.
Hexad types have the opposite bias & see mostly the „cumulative sum“ of themselves/ may not notice their own characteristic situational patterns.
Cultural Factors
Another thing that can influence systemic patterns of mistypes are cultural factors, especially for the more adaptable types.
This doesn’t just mean conforming to what is seen as ideal in one’s culture but can also mean doing exactly the opposite.
For example in countercultural esoterics circles in the USA you see a lot of 6s and 9s landing on 4 (counterpoint to the 3 culture of their parent’s generation) or 8 (which they interpret as the ideal of modern day USA) but in the conservatice christian circles you see roughly the same ppl landing on 1 or 2 instead (depending on gender)
From what I’ve read in some articles, in asia, where academic sucess is prized, everyone wants to be a 3, and a lot of African Americans mistakenly land on 6 because they have to be vigilant to avoid discrimination.
I’ve noticed that here in Germany where we have something of a so/sp 6w5 culture, a lot of counterculturals stress 7-like characteristics – „I’m spontaneous, optimistic & not stuffy, just call me my first name.“

Please Ramble To Me About The Possible Enneagram Associations
*bottom eyes emoji face here*
you really really want me to???
I did dive a bit into it answering that post in another reblog (unless tumblr ate it???) but I can't find it (obviously).
The gist of it is that both in numerology and in the enneagram 9 = 0. This is for a multitude of reasons.
- Enneagram 9 is the type that unconsciously strives to connect to everyone and everything: it disperses and forgets itself to make space for other numbers / people. It is everything and nothing at the same time. They continuously adapt to others until they can't find themselves.
- From here. The basic idea is that the enneagram is constituted by triads. Its basic unit is, thus, 3. 3 is one unit. 6 is two opposing units: good/bad, light/dark, true/false, black/white. 3+3. "E9 adds a neutral 3 to the two opposing 3s…bringing a potential integrative function…or a dispersive haze: bifurcation becomes tri-furcation…i.e.- self-dispersion/distribution into the many. The ego is more porous and has softened here. Emulation/modeling becomes merging and harmonization, tuning the self musically to outside forces. There’s an identification with the zero point of the Neutral; the self disappears and makes way for others — to be absorbed in various ways/forms. Add the number 9 to any other number, and the 9 disappears, while the other number gets a second iteration…e.g.: 9 + 5 = 14, add the 1 and 4…the 5 gets reconstituted…the 9 is gone…"
- Moreover, being the center of the body triad (8 9 1), their main issues are rooted in "what does it mean to exist as an entity at all, in the first place". "do I even exist?". The "body" is shorthand for a gut felt sense of self, which is very rigid or expansive in types 8 and 1, but is fluid and floaty in 9. Being at the center of the triad means being out of touch with that very triad. Thus, the 9 often feels like it has no sense of self - a struggle to "embody itself" and "take up space in the actual, living world". It self-erases (to zero) itself on a visceral level, and that's the whole issue with the "Sloth" (9 fixation). "I want to make myself as little as possible to leave space for everyone else". That compulsion is 9.
- The 9 does this because it's naturally attuned to "the whole", it naturally sees a more general, (higher?) perspective, and wants to keep that wholeness intact. It naturally perceives the "waves" it makes in the outside world. In the enneagram symbol, 9 is the higher point, as if they're viewing the entire humanity (the 9 types) from up above, both detached and involved in what's going on. There's obviously a hidden narcissism here.
- The 9 "encapsulates" all the other types: it has the capacity to "shapeshift" into any other type (ie person it is interacting with) without even realizing. It's like stem cells, or the blank slate from which anything could take origin from (again, blank = ZERO).
- The 9 encloses the symbol itself: it's the beginning and the end of the enneagram, the start and the finish of any project/process. The enneagram is constituted of three parts: the circle, the triangle, the hexad crown. The 9 encloses and captures the entire circle. The whole. circle = 0.
Tumblr media
- On the other hand, 1 is the less "zero-like" number, possibly because it strives to be the first step into a new process, and has an inherent rigidity to it in that it wants to set and exists "just right", in a specific, fixated way. The number itself is a straight line, defining and imposing order (1). Whereas 9 is about "just being, just existing, floating in space", 1 needs to correct that and create... 1 way of existing. While 9 can be anything and everything but also nothing (0), 1 needs and feels like it should be 1 specific thing.
- Then I could go on... 2 is the heart felt type, the relationship between "you and me", two entities that come together and unite and rejoice... it has a specific "I want YOU" thing going on, as opposed to the absolute generic universality that it's so... ironically, specific to 9. Most of the stuff I'm saying comes from / is inspired by the author I linked before, anyway, and it probably relates to some numerology stuff, not sure.
Thank you for making me ramble a bit lmfao if you're interested I may ramble some more <3
