2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?
'tis the damn season au! there are so many vignettes i'm really excited about for this fic that i've already started penning out. it also has a fairly hefty outline
3. Which WIP do you expect will end up being the longest?
don't you call him baby. this one definitely has the biggest character arcs, and a timeline that needs to span a decent number of years.
4. Which WIP is your favorite to write/ the most enjoyable to write? Why?
i'm really excited to write the dungeon meet-cute. i have a sneaking suspicion this will end up being a series of oneshots. i'm just like, so in love with firstprince being involved in the community and caring about community etiquette and watching them learn. also, i'm so exciting for witty banter laced within their first negotiations with each other.
5. Which WIP do you find most intimidating to write? Why?
the assassination attempt au. this one is going to be HEAVY, chickens. there's a lot of emotional turmoil. it's also a bit of a character study with henry, while i typically tend to write from alex's pov. also slightly concerned about backing myself into a corner with medical inaccuracies
6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about? Why?
don't you call him baby. it has a long timeline of events that i have to construct and stay true to. it also features henry absolutely decimating alex's heart. so i'm worried about being able to pull that off while still keeping the readers rooting for him to end up with alex.
7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?
probably anything longer than a oneshot or a 5+1. i'm not super familiar with working on longer pieces and want to make sure they won't be coming across as boring or poor quality.
8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?
greek mythology au, which breaks my heart. i love the concept, but don't know i'll ever have enough brain hatching to let it come to fruition
9. Which WIP has your favorite OC? Tell us about them
don't you call him baby will feature alex having a boyfriend named Noah for a portion of the story! Noah is meant to be someone we know isn't going to end up with alex. but we still genuinely like him. he's kind, he's supportive, he cares deeply about alex. he's honestly a bit of a golden retriever.
10. Which WIP is the sexiest?

11. Which WIP is the angstiest?
assassination attempt au. there's a lot of hurt and emotional turmoil from a lot of our favorite characters. we see June, Zahra, Ellen, Oscar, and Henry really struggling. and there won't be much comfort.
my goal for this fic is for it to be a bit of a gut-wrenching read, a go to 'i need to read something to make me cry' fic. but edged with a hint of hope
12. Which WIP has the best characterization (in your humble opinion)?
i hope it'll be either the assassination attempt au, or the 5+1 alcoholic alex fic. both depend pretty intensely on introspection and living in a character's head
13. Which WIP has the best setting (in your humble opinion)?
dungeon meet-cute. gotta love a local dungeon as the staging for a fic
14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?
i'd say probably don't you call him baby. i've worked pretty hard to try to nail down a rough timeline for it, which has seemed like a lot more work than just sitting and hammering out writing scenes for me
15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for?
'tis the damn season au. i have so many cute vignettes for it. i'm gonna hate myself if it doesn't string together well
16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?
not so far! but i do daydream about them a lot. i'll brainstorm vignettes for wips and let them play in my head as a little movie during mundane life things
17. Do any of your WIPs have any particular complexities that your other fics don't?
the assassination attempt au barely has alex in it. for the vast VAST majority of the fic, alex will be in surgery or still unconscious recovery. it depends SO heavily on the other characters. that fic also demands a hospital setting, and medical information that i've got to do some deeper research for
18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humor?
funny you ask, i'm actually atrocious at writing humor and try to avoid it like the plague. but i'm hoping the aftercare oneshot has a special sense of levity and sweetness. and the dungeon meet-cute is going to aim for some funny banter
19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?
the assassination attempt au dives into a lot of characters! it is intimidating haha. more than anything i'm just nervous about writing any of the characters that i love so much in a way that doesn't feel authentic
20. Tell us something we don't know about one or more of your WIPs
don't you call him baby will showcase alex deciding to get sober early into the fic, and will include david playing matchmaker!
it always leads to you (in my hometown) reunites henry and alex through pez and a dairy aisle. henry also has a tattoo in it.

I'll be honest. I didn't expect Red, White and Royal Blue to be this fucking good. I know it was always the number one rec in the gay romance rec lists but I kinda carried a grudge that Boyfriend Material was relegated to number two. I also thought it would be a typical romcom about "yay rich white cis gays" representing the most devastatingly colonizing nations on the planet. I didn't realise one of them would be the biracial grandson of Mexican immigrants and they'd interrogate that shit. Or that it would be a legitimately beautifully written book with a whole host of complex characters that didn't feel like token minorities.
It's an actual queer story about identity and politics and tapestries of unacknowledged, suppressed loves reaching across time. Blended families and ambition and duty and authenticity. A moderate and rather thrilling dive into US politics, although a little bit more work into the institutional nature of Buckingham Palace would have been nice, instead of simply making the Queen a stock bigot. The royal family exists in a very precarious yet entrenched power balance with Westminster and the Church, and the queen is herself a sovereign entity managed by a rigid power matrix.
However, while the first half of the book was very funny and lively, I was pretty lukewarm about the pairing itself until the second half. I only felt invested in them after the stakes escalated into an emotional precipice and spiralled into angst and pining and yelling in the rain and "don't you tell me I don't love you bc I can't be with you" "then tell me to leave" and nearly being outed and having state-mandated beards and being miserable and desperate. And I only got gooey because Henry writes emails like the kind of anguished, repressed Victorian poet halfway to manic depression and a laudanum habit. But I have to say, the second half of this book really delivers. The actual climax of the book being the 2020 election rather than a dramatic denouement was somehow both unexpected and inevitable. Nothing could ever have come close to the historic experience that was Destiel Putin Total Landscaping 2020 (also it was pretty funny what happened to Nevada in the book vs real life), but the fictional election was still a nail-biter because the book is just realistic enough to not make you complacent about the outcome. It makes the characters earn their stripes, no pun intended.
This book is first to last a political wish fulfillment fantasy, where the characters openly say, "aren't we glad we're not in some darkest timeline where the USAmerican people betrayed each other right after Obama's term was up?" (Apparently the idea for the book came to the author in mid-2016. Ouch.) Its primary conceit: What if Washington doesn't completely ruin or reject everyone who starts out with good intentions? What if a non-traditionalist union in the '80s turned out a couple of Royal kids who ended up decent people who interrogated their privileges? That most fantastical of premises – that at least a handful of people who attain power and privilege could hold onto their values and compassion. It is, achingly, sorrowingly, the ultimate wish of the disenfranchised and disillusioned the last few years: that just enough people had stepped up where it counted and turned the tide of history. And that they might continue to do so, more often than not.
Overall, a very good, solid, compelling read, far, far better than Love, Simon or whatever else the white cis het mainstream inexplicably latches onto. I won't say better than Boyfriend Material. Alexis Hall is still the better writer. But it's such a completely different book, speaking to a different demographic with different expectations, that it's a chalk and cheese comparison. The London Calling series (Boyfriend Material, Husband Material and the upcoming Father Material) is a quintessentially British romantic comedy with a deeply queer beating heart for an older Millennial audience, interrogating the UK's systemic class and colonial issues, delving into the universalism and diversity of the human condition with richness and complexity. Red, White & Royal Blue is an extremely USAmerican Zillennial fantasy, caught somewhere between YA, US political intrigue and queer romance with a dash of British glamour – high quality escapist pop culture. I might be biased towards LC because I'm its target audience; but the exponentially greater popularity of RW&RB is definitely due to the power of the USAmerican cultural hegemony. I was complaining about fandom refusing to engage with actual queer art and literature before; all of Alexis Hall's work merits only a handful of pages on AO3. RW&RB alone has 154 pages on AO3 no I am not bitter that y'all are tasteless and disgraceful and if that doesn't speak to the power of having a USAmerican base then nothing does.

This year has been a fandom rollercoaster with being in RWRB fandom and also the SPN fandom! For RWRB, I posted three works (and have like 3 WIPS) and for SPN, I posted one fic (and unfortunately no WIP)
Starting with RWRB fandom,

1. It’s the First Kiss (it’s flawless, really something, it’s fearless)
“How bad?”
“I don't know,” Henry said.
Alex's heart broke even further. He nudged Henry, “Scoot over, let me hold you.” Henry obliged without any further question. Alex slipped beside him under the covers and wrapped his arms around Henry. “Is it all the way black?”
“All the way.” It was a system they had come up with in their first year of living together—a colour system to know how bad the day was. Blue stood for ‘feel like shit but I'm going to be fine’, gray was for ‘feel so horrible, but a hug will cure me’ and finally, black was for ‘it hurts to even breathe, need you to hold me and never let go’.
Henry turned around the embrace and rested his cheek against Alex's chest. The rhythmic beats of his heart calmed his mind but it was not enough. He was still hurting. Alex gently carded his fingers through his golden strands and Henry felt himself tearing up. “Shh, shh, sweetheart, it's alright.” But the tears never stopped. Sobs racked his body as he made a mess of Alex's shirt with tears and snot. However Alex only pulled him closer to himself. “It's alright, H, let it out. I'm here for you.”

“It's fine. Here—” Alex made a space on his bed for Henry to sit beside him, “Baby, please c’mere.”

And then again, who was Henry to ever deny Alex anything ?
3. The Great American Roommate Experiment (also a WIP series)
Henry grumbled, “Go to sleep, Alex.”
“Henry, what happened?” Alex asked. “If I did something wrong then I’m sorry.”
“You did nothing wrong. Not everything is about you, Alex.” Henry sounded harsher than he meant to be because deep-down he knew it was a lie—if he could, he would have made everything about Alex.
Alex frowned deeply, “Okay, fuck, fine! Don't have to be so fucking rude Henry. I just wanted to watch Bake-off with—”
Henry was exhausted, horny and truly couldn't give a fuck right now. He hadn't had a decent sex in a long time and he was tired of pining after a man who was so out of his reach, he could have fucking well lived in the goddamn outer space, “Christ, Alex! Can't you just let a man have a bloody wank in peace?”
Now onto WIPS -
1. The +1: Boyfriend for Rent
The devil on Henry's shoulder is pulling an overtime again. He gives Alex a nod and is dragged off to the dance floor. The pulsating rhythm envelopes the two boys while they navigate the dance floor in shared harmony.
Alex lets his hands rest in the dip of Henry's waist and the blonde's steps falter. “It's all in the hips, sweetheart,” Alex sways his hips to establish his point. And Henry—yeah, Henry is not okay. Alex guides Henry's hands up to his shoulders, drawing himself close to the blonde's chest. With a continuous rolling motion of his hips, Alex grinds against him. He feeds into his urge to be infinitely close to Henry and tucks his face into the crook of Henry's neck.
“Is this okay?” Alex breathes out against the blonde's neck. Henry nods. “Words, sweetheart. I need words. I want to follow each clause.”
“Yes—” Henry struggles to suppress a whimper that lingers at the edge of his lips as Alex's hands ascend to his chest. “It's okay.”

For a fleeting moment, Alex was thrown back in the past—back to their first mission together, in Rio. “Henry,” Alex wheezes, “Call b-backup. Henry?” He is running out of breath; running out of time. The bullet—a merciless messenger of death—has slotted itself beside his sternum. It's a miracle that the piece of metal didn't manage to puncture his heart. He is bleeding out. “Henry?” Alex calls for his partner but it's futile. For Henry stands paralysed—
“Alex?” Zahra's voice snaps him out of his reverie. Alex tips his chair back to stand up. He senses the twitching and shaking in his hands and fingers, recognizing the signs of an impending panic attack. “Agent Claremont-Diaz, are you okay?”
3. Unnamed Bridgerton AU (Idk when or how i will write this with Regency era English lol)
“And what? Tarnish the family name to find myself a husband? Gran will never allow me this respite.”
“Brother, you cannot—”
“I must.” That was all he told Bea before he was off to do his duty—find himself a wife. Henry let his inquisitive gaze travel the room in hopes that he could find a woman suitable enough for him to carry on a conversation. While he didn't hold an overly high opinion of himself, contemplating a loveless union compelled him to seek a lady whose wit could at least match his own. One could only endure tales of knitting for so long.
It was at that moment he glimpsed her presence, adorned in silk embellished with golden sequins. Miss Catalina June Claremont-Diaz, her eyes radiating keen intelligence as she engaged in conversation with Lord Richards who was simply quite taken by her. Yet, as he allowed his gaze to linger further left, a surge of emotions overwhelmed him, leaving him in a state of bewildered captivation for a long time.
The cause of this mesmerization was none other than a strikingly handsome gentleman who stood guard beside her. Upon further inspection, Henry understood it was Mister Alexander Claremont-Diaz, Miss June's younger brother.

I really dream of meeting the love of my life in a way that i will remember it and will not be ashamed to say it. Like, i don't want it to be by a gay dating app, because i don't want to be thankful to my phone, you understand?
I would prefer to meet him in a public space, like a museum or a library, somewhere that would represent us. Somewhere where i or him wouldn't be ashamed to talk to the other. For example imagine if I fall in love with a sport player, i imagine myself telling him how good he was, and then he ask me if i want to continue this discussion somewhere else... 😊
It is exactly what happens in this story
So i would like to meet my lover in a public place, or somewhere where him and i could go again or at least remember, and somewhere where we wouldn't be shy to talk to each other. But i don't mind if it's friends in common who introduce to each other.
But to answer your other point, i don't believe in being ennemies to lovers. It can be interesting in tv series, like the bully who is secretly in love with the loser / fag / nerd. It reminds me of the storyline in Glee where David Karosky is secretly in love with Kurt Hummel that he violently bully everyday (i am currently writing about them, by the way). But in the tv series, they aren't dating.
There is other examples of lovers who were ennemies or who at least disliked each others, but i think you need to be interested by the person to fall in love with him.her.
As for falling in love with a friend.... Well, I'll talk about my experience. I discovered my homosexuality by falling in love with my oldest male friend when i was 11 years old. I haven't heard about gay or homosexuality before. Anyway, i didn't wanted to tell all the details, because it's a very sad story, but what's surei is that when i told him my feelings i didn't saw him as my friend. I wanted him to be my boyfriend. Oh i wanted it so much, i never loved someone as much as i loved him and it hurted - and sometimes still hurts - me so much. But the fact is that after I told him i was in love with him, he didn't saw me as his friends too. My love for him meant the end of our friendship.
So i think you can fall in love with someone you already likes as a friend, but, if a friend is really important to you, it's sad to end a relationship just because you want him.her as your boyfriend.girlfriend. I am not saying that i regret falling in love with my friend, but what's sure is that after that i had crushes on guys who weren't my friends.
These stories are love stories and you'll see that the characters fall in love sometimes unexpectidally. I havent included all the love stories I wrote (the Disney ones and the CELEBRITIES IN LOVE too).
There is stories with friendship or in which guys fall in love with their friends. They are not classified by chronological order or preferences.

do you have any romance novel recs or recs for novels that predominantly feature romance? i'm on my hands and knees looking but i can't find a single popular one on goodreads that doesn't have a really cheap/cringe version of dislike-to-love where the man is pointlessly and overwhelmingly cruel to the woman at first yet people have the gall to say that this condescension and antagonism turned into love. somehow. they'll never be wallylinda smh
ironically i don’t read a whole lot of romance for this reason and bc so many of the mainstream picks in the genre are incredibly cringe but a few of my tried and true favorites do include:
amour et chocolat by laura florand / this is a series of six books set in the paris chocolatier and patissier scene. the general set up of each book involves a fierce woman trying to make her way in the world and the chocolatier or patissier she inevitably meets who is both fascinated and heartbroken by the walls she puts up for initially unknown reasons that he is desperate to know and battle against. which i realize sounds suspect but there is such a raw, tender honesty to these books and the way the couples interact with each other that always pierces me at the core. like the men are a bit intimidating and self assured but they ultimately have the biggest hearts and are positively desperate to pamper the women if only the latter would let them so it leads to this like, fierce battle between two people who are trying to love each other more than the other does. and it’s incredibly endearing like the books make me go crazy not to mention florand did extensive research in actual cafes and bakeries and salons so the chocolate and pastry descriptions and metaphors are to die for (my personal favorites are the chocolate kiss, the chocolate touch, the chocolate heart)
the love experiment by ainslie paton / a big shot reporter and a comparatively newbie reporter at a paper get paired up to do an experiment where they have to ask each other thirty six questions and maintain eye contact for four minutes and see whether or not they will fall in love with each other. it’s a very fun premise that leads to deeper intricacies about both of the characters that are both delightful and sad and also the male mc lets off steam by boxing at a late night fight club called saint longinus’s church of the cocked fist which is actually run by an ex priest in the abandons of an old church so that had me particularly enthralled. but the romance is divine and so heartfelt it’s been a while since i read it but i weeped a little i think
the flatshare by beth o’leary / a woman decides to leave her emotionally abusive boyfriend and needs to find a place to stay, so she decides to flatshare with a man who works as a night nurse while she works a morning job, meaning they never actually see each other. except eventually they start leaving each other little notes about trivial things and then it meanders into them learning a little more and more about each other each day until they finally [gasp] clash into each other one afternoon and all things spiral from there. but god i love the male mc in this he’s literally like the kindest sweetest person ever and it’s esp lovely bc the female mc trying to break out of returning to her abusive relationship is a very big focal point of the novel so the way he supports her first as a friend and then as a boyfriend is just really nice to see like the book overall is incredibly healing and cathartic
beach read by emily henry / in retrospect i do think i would agree with people that the protagonists in henry’s books aren’t necessarily distinct. like they could very much be blank slates you project onto bc they’re your average white people. but the way that she deals with grief and loneliness and yearning is so palpable that i don’t even care like this had me crying my eyes out at four in the morning bc i was so gutted with grief and misery over the experience of loneliness and rejection. but anyway the premise is that there are two authors who write in very antithetical genres (i think it was romance versus thriller) and also happened to know each other in college who coincidentally end up marooning in the same coastal town to write their next novel. and my memory is vague on the details but i think they challenge each other to try to write in the genre the other excels at and they get to know each other blah blah blah but mostly you deal with the grief of the female mc going through a house her now passed father built for his lover while her mom had cancer and the grief of the male mc over the emotional trauma of his divorce and in that aspect it’s just so good like it makes you feel totally raw and exposed
ghosted by jm darhower / this is maybe the only cringe entry on this list bc i don’t think darhower is really in the same league of writing ability as the other recs and can be quite corny but i love this one for the story.. there’s a dual timeline thing going on between diary entries from a teenage girl in the past and the perspective of estranged lovers in the present. the guy is a big movie star whose claim to fame are the adaptations of a cape comic series he and the girl initially bonded over as teenagers, the girl is his ex who left him when he got too deep into the drawbacks of the film scene (alcohol, drugs, the like) and went on to have their baby who she raises on her own. and basically the guy ends up filming very close to his and the girl’s old hometown and decides to take it as his one chance to set things right so that he can actually be a present and responsible father to his daughter and maybe even win the love of his life back bc he knows he treated her like shit. so that’s really where it gets me, bc he’s incredibly self aware and works so hard to atone and be consistent and reliable. also the way the diary flashbacks tie in is sooo corny but sweet and tragic too like omg i just love the whole thing conceptually it’s very clever and adorable
like any melina marchetta book ever / i know i am cheating here bc her books wouldn’t be defined as romance novels but the romances are nonetheless huge focal points of them and so memorable that i cannot resist recommending them at any opportunity. she knows how to write a whole array of romantic relationships and what i really enjoy is how much emphasis there is in her books on personal accountability. like a lot of the work that the characters have to do isn’t necessarily as partners, sometimes they have to work on themselves before they can be good partners. and i really love that mindset from her bc it results in her romances having such strong foundations to stand on since both people involved are not only stronger together but also strong and fully realized on their own too. there are a lot of different kind of rifts between couples that she explores and there’s so much maturity in those explorations that even the ones with setups i would normally hate manage to win me over. like one literally involves a guy cheating and getting another girl pregnant and him having to live with the guilt and shame of that for years as he tries to atone and understand how deeply he hurt his girlfriend and how he can’t just wish her self worth back into existence and has to work at it a little at a time bc it’s what she deserves from him if he ever wants to have a chance with her again. and they won me over. it’s incredible (personal favorites are definitely the lumatere chronicles or the inner west trilogy: saving francesca, the piper’s son, and the place on dalhousie)

Comics/Graphic Novels I Read in 2023
1. Doctor Who: Weapons of Past Destruction by Calvin Scott, Blair Shedd, Rachel Sottt, and Anang Setyawan
The Doctor, Rose, and Jack get caught up in a galaxy where two aliens are using timelord technology to prevent others from using time travel in order to prevent another time war. However, good their intentions are, the Doctor proves to them its wrong while also saving Rose multiple times.
2. Doctor Who: A Matter of Life and Death by George Mann, Emma Vieceli, and Hi Fi
The Doctor meets a young woman named Josie who has very strong animae powers that bring her drawings to life. Once he saves that situation, he finds a note from himself with coordinates and him and Josie go on some life changing and crazy adventures. I love Josie, she’s cool. And the fact that it’s Twelve and Clara who hook her up with the Eighth Doctor is quite lovely a nice surprise.
3. Neil Gaiman’s Tecknophage Vol 2. by Bryan Talbot, Paul Jenkins, and James Vance
Returning to the world of Tecknophage, we see the pitfalls and the ruin of the man who runs the universe, kind of. I appreciate and also hated that so much of this book resonated with what’s going on in my country right now regarding politics. How Tecknophage very clearly is the example of one side. But watching as others find ways to subvert, rise up, and save themselves was encouraging until the end where Henry Phage returns to his world that is still running off of human suffering and slave labor. I am looking forward to reading more of the other characters in this series if I can find them.
4. I Want to Be a Wall Volume 2 by Honami Shirono
I really love this series. Now that we’ve gotten to know Yuriko and Gakurouta it was interesting to see them explain how they met through the arranged marriage application but become friends first before deciding to eventually get married. I also loved the way they explored both of them learning more about each other and also wanting to be good partners while both accepting that sometime in the future if the other ever felt differently they would leave. It’s such a wholesome exploration of QPRs and also I love that we got to meet Momo-kun, Yuriko’s bisexual friend who introduced her to the term asexuality. I think he and Gakurouta’s talk was really great and beautiful to explain asexuality.
5. Is Love the Answer? By Uta Isaki
In this graphic novel we meet Chika who feels like an alien because she doesn’t experience romantic or sexual attraction. And honestly I was worried the first couple pages because she was almost traumatized by the ‘typical’ relationship standards that her boyfriends wanted and she didn’t, but it ended up being a great exploration of learning about your sexuality, your interpretations of your sexuality, boundaries, and feeling good in your own skin. I loved the instant friendship she had with Enomoto and Ito but I really loved her interactions with Ume even if his story was a little sad.
6. Saga Volume 2 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
It’s been a while since I’ve been in the saga universe but I always wanted to go back to it and I’m glad I did. It’s such a unique and fascinating world and learning about Marko and Alana and how they met and fell in love over a book that was secretly coded to stop the war between their peoples is fascinating. Especially since the whole story is narrated by their daughter Hazel who is just a baby in the scenes we see. I’m also still very intrigued by the slave girl that is rescued and Prince Robot the IV.
7. Saga Volume 3 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
In this volume we learn why Alana, Marko, and crew are in the writer’s house after the last cliffhanger we had and that they have been there for a while. Alana and Marko were hoping for answers on what to do next now that they followed the story, but the writer only helps push them along with help from Marko’s mother. Though what will happen next is unknown since they are about to fight their way out. Seeing the story of The Will and Slave Girl was interesting and a good twist to give more humanity to the Will, though the need for romance between him and Gwen seems to be a push. We’ll see where it goes now that The Will has been taken out of the picture for now.
8. March Book 1 by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell
I learned about this amazing graphic novel because Andrew Aydin was in the Comic Censorship Panel I went to at Heroes Con in 2022. He spoke about March which is now required reading for many schools, but I had never heard of it and since it came out after I was in school maybe that’s why. Still, it’s the graphic narrative and biography of John Lewis’ life and its fantastic as well as hard. This book, which is the first of three, tackled John’s early years growing up on his family’s farm and his rise through his college years where he learned and practiced nonviolent protest as a student to start becoming the Civil Rights leader we know him best for. I’m sure the more we go, the harder some stories will go, but I’m eager to read them and I also love that it is also shown as John looking back before he attends Obama’s inauguration.
9. Sandman Volume 3: Dream Country by Neil Gaiman, Kelley Jones, Malcom Jones III, Charles Vess, and Colleen Doran
So this is where Calliope and A Dream of A Thousand Cats came from! I’m a little sad that I didn’t read these before the episodes dropped, but while Dream of a Thousand Cats was done shot for shot, I’m actually really glad for the way they updated Calliope because I would have been filled with dread to watch it. I mean the basic story elements are the same but Richard Madoc in the comic is way more of a deplorable than the way he's portrayed in the show, because he automatically just starts raping Calliope with no care. Not that he doesn’t begin to in the show, but I think the character change to make him more likeable at first because he doesn’t want to force her, he just wants help to write his novel, but he ignores her wishes to be free with her promise to help and that desperation to not give away the power I think is a better retelling of how greed can actually influence people is so much stronger. I can’t wait to watch it again. A Midsummers Night Dream was fun to see the twist on how Shakespeare performed for the actual fairies that inspired the play and I would love to see Façade adapted because I can totally picture Kirby Baptiste as Death in it and she would knock it out of the park. Can’t wait for more.
10. March Book 2 by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell
Another powerful book in the retelling of John Lewis’ life and his leading actions in the civil rights movement. There were times in this book that were powerful and times absolutely unimaginable because of the horror and the violence committed against black Americans. Especially because while the Kennedys tried to help they didn’t know how to navigate past the racism that this country was founded on and still exists today. And that was probably the most chilling part. That we are still dealing with this all these years later. But as quoted in the final pages of this book, this is important to tell for the next generation of leaders and we must continue the fight until it is won.

Stranger Things
Stranger Things is an American science fiction drama television series created by the Duffer Brothers.
The show takes place in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the mid 1980s. The first season, set in November 1983, follows numerous groups of characters as they separately investigate the disappearance of Will Byers. The subsequent second and third seasons expand the narrative scope, exploring the complex fallout from the events of November 1983. The fourth season further expands the show's scope, with major storylines taking place outside of Hawkins for the first time. A fifth season is in the works and is set to conclude the series. The Duffer Brothers are also known to be developing at least one spinoff series.
The Upside Down
The Upside Down is an alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world. The dimension originally consisted entirely of sprawling mountains and floating rocks, and was home to a race of humanoid predators. Somehow, the Upside Down transformed from its original state and became a perfect copy of the human world, exactly as it existed on November 6 1983. However, unlike the human world, this new incarnation of the Upside Down was overrun with alien vines, spores and membranes, and completely devoid of human life. The alien vines, along with the humanoid predators and a species of bat-like creatures, formed a shared hive mind. This shared psychic connection was made possible via "the Mind Flayer", a powerful entity native to the Upside Down which Henry Creel possessed control over. The entirety of the Upside Down was essentially one gigantic organism, with all its contents and agents connected both physically and mentally via Henry and the Mind Flayer.

Eleven-Eleven was kidnapped as a new born by Dr. Martin Brenner and raised in Hawkins National Laboratory, where she was experimented on for her inherited psychokinetic abilities. After escaping the lab, she was found by Mike, Lucas, and Dustin. Upon discovering her abilities, Mike believed that she could help find Will, their missing friend.
Michael- is a main character in Stranger Things. The leader of the Party, he is the boyfriend of Eleven, the best friend of Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair, Will Byers, and Max Mayfield, and the younger brother of Nancy Wheeler.
Nancy- is a young adult and an aspiring journalist, and an ally to “The Party". She is the older sister of Mike, the former girlfriend of Steve Harrington, and the current girlfriend of Jonathan Byers.
Dustin- was a typical nerd. However, he had a rare genetic disorder (cleidocranial dysplasia) that prevented his teeth from developing properly. His life changed in the fall of 1983, when his best friend Will Byers disappeared.
Will- was a shy, artistic boy from Hawkins, Indiana who loved to play D&D with his three best friends, Mike, Lucas and Dustin. However, Will's life would turn upside-down on November 6, 1983.
Lucas-In 1983, Lucas's friend, Will mysteriously vanished so Lucas and the rest of his friends, Mike and Dustin went out to look for him, only to meet a girl named Eleven who had telekinetic powers. Lucas was wary of Eleven and found her weird and hardly believed in supernatural circumstances of Will's disappearance.
Joyce-In November, 1983, after Will mysteriously disappeared, Joyce was certain that he was communicating with her through the lights in her house. Despite everyone treating her as if she was having a mental breakdown, Joyce refused to believe that Will was dead, even after his alleged corpse was found. Through cooperation with her friend and local police chief Jim Hopper.
Jonathan-In the fall of 1983, Jonathan's younger brother, Will, vanished without a trace due to Jonathan working late. Will's disappearance made Jonathan guilt-ridden for not being there and would soon take a toll on his relationship with his mother, who insisted Will was trapped in the walls and taken by a monster with no face. Jonathan dismissed Joyce's claims as a sign of a mental breakdown and took it upon himself to take care of the funeral arrangements upon Will's "body" being recovered from the town quarry.
Hopper- was Chief of Police in the small, sleepy town of Hawkins, Indiana, where he used to live out a carefree existence - yet haunted by a troubled past. After an old friend, Joyce Byers’ reported that her son, Will, had mysteriously disappeared, Hopper's life became infinitely more complicated. He began to realise Will's disappearance was caused by an experiment at Hawkins National Laboratory and helped Joyce rescue her son from an alternate dimension called the Upside Down.
Steve- a student at Hawkins High School, he was best friends with Tommy Hagan and Carol Perkins and the boyfriend of Nancy Wheele. When Nancy's best friend, Barbara, disappeared, she became distant and Steve thought she was cheating with Jonathan. Following a few ignorant actions, Steve had a change of heart, told his friends off, and set out to make things right. By coincidence, he ended up heroically saving the day and reconciled with his girlfriend.
Robin- in the summer of 1985, Robin began working at the newly-built Starcourt Mall’s ice cream parlor,Soops Ahoy, alongside her former classmate,Steve. Robin often made Steve the butt of many jokes due to his fleeting popularity and failure to attract any female customers.When Steve and his friend Dustin attempted to crack an intercepted Russian code, Robin assisted through her knowledge of many languages. She figured out that Russians were using the mall's food chains and businesses to smuggle supplies into Hawkins. Eventually, the three discovered that the Soviets had carried out an elaborate scheme.
Max- was originally from California, and had a keen interest in skateboarding from a young age. Following her mother’s divorce and remarriage to Nail Hargove in 1984, Max and her erratic stepbrother Billy moved to Hawkins, Indiana. Max quickly gained a reputation at the Palace Arcade for topping the game leaderboards, her high scores submitted under the player name "MADMAX". Max's high scores captured the attention of arcade regulars Dustin, Lucas, Will and Mike, who mistakenly assumed her to be a boy. After Maxine joined the boys' class at Hawkins middle School, they realised the new girl and the mysterious MADMAX were one and the same
Creatures
The Mind Flayer- is an entity originating from the Upside Down, an alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world. The Mind Flayer is gigantic, looming at least 50 stories tall, and sports a distinctive spider-like appearance. The Mind Flayer could wield supreme control of the Upside Down via a psychic link, with Demogorgons, vines and demobats forming a shared hive mind.
Hawkins tunnel system- was an organism that grew out from the Upside Down, via the Mothergate at Hawkins Laboratory. It took the form of a series of tunnels, sprawling beneath the outskirts of Hawkins.
Demogorgons- are predatory creatures originating from the Upside Down. All Demogorgons encountered thus far are assumed to obey the Mind Flayer, and make up part of his hive mind. Under his influence, Demogorgons are murderous, violent and have limited intelligence.
