Buddie and their brother felt like taking the assignment of this particularly cheesy choice of social media promotion by ABC seriously. Their sister ... did not.
Taylor Kelly, in her book: "...I had always feared, if my relationship with firefighter Buckley came to an end because of some infidelity on his part, it would have been with the other firefighter he was closest to who I already suspected had strong feelings for Buckley that ran deeper than their purported friendship. It came as an even more crushing blow when he confessed to cheating on me with someone he had only been working with for a few months. I was devastated..."
Buck: *closing Taylor's book* Who do you think Taylor thought I'd cheat on her with?
When the 9-1-1 actors say stuff that makes them sound like us >>>
"I'm like, wouldn't Hen kind of establish a relationship with her best friend's love of his life?
I would love to see Hen and Maddie's relationship explored even more and see what that looks like. And there have been some touches on it that we shot this season."
Buck: What are the odds you think Bobby would give me a promotion?
Chimney: You? Evan "In My Defense I Was Left Unsupervised" Buckley?
Buck: Y'know, just because I don't have a middle name, doesn't mean you guys need to give me one.
Hen: Oh yes, yes, it does.
Eddie: I don't have a middle name.
Chimney: Oh yes you do.
Hen: Yeah, you're Edmundo "Second Half of a Whole Idiot" Diaz.
Eddie: What? Who's the...first half?
(Hen and Chim both look at Buck)
Buck: I'm not an idiot! Why am I an idiot?
Chimney: Technically, you're just half of an idiot.
Hen: And in your defense, you WERE left unsupervised...
So it's actually Hen who's, once again, the interim captain.
... ABC does like to respect their queer characters (we also seem to be getting more of Karen than we did on FOX and they do already have a good, and pre-established, history with Tracie in that Thursday-night lineup which does, sadly, make crossovers moot unless they, like FOX, continues to expect audiences to believe that exact doppelgängers exist). Could they be adding to more with two more of their beloved, and main-stay, characters? Only time (and maybe Ryan) will tell.
Hen: 5 weeks without release? Was there ever a moment when you thought you would give in and... do it?
Buck: *Remembering the night Eddie called him over because his sink broke and he walked in on a shirtless, wet Eddie on his back with a wrench in his hand*
They no-homo-ed them so hard it’s not even funny. And yet it managed to be a very Buddie episode as well. The call-back to 4x14. The ruined wrong couch. They tried so hard to pivot from the Buckley-Diazes, they somehow ended up right where they started. They are a family, and KR’s shitty writing won’t change anything about it.
I understand they tried to leave everyone in a ”happy” place. I just don’t understand why for Buck and Eddie it meant women. Women that are all wrong for them. Well, here’s to hoping ABC will save us from this example of comp-het they could teach in schools.
The emergency was suspenseful. Though they made some weird choices just for the sake of drama. But I’ll forgive them for the pretty, heartwarming.
I loved the Buckley siblings in this episode. I’m not necessarily happy that Josh let Maddie lead the call but it was great to see how competent she is. And I’m also glad they remembered her friendship with Athena.
But the MVP of this episode was Buck. The way he took charge of the situation. Of both of them, actually, was wonderful and that boy will make an amazing captain in not so distant future. Seeing him with the baby was bittersweet and I maintain that this was the stupidest storyline I have seen since Marlena was possessed by the devil.
Karen and Hen getting a baby. Bobby and Athena finally going on their honeymoon. Maddie and Chimney planning their wedding. All so sweet and satisfying.
Eddie and Buck, well, I guess for them, the satisfying will be found in fan fiction. But if we never see Natalia or Marisol ever again, I won’t complain one bit. Just save us all the trouble and ditch them off screen.
Who I want to see again is the pay-it-forward dude. He can stay.
