a lot of characters in Arcane make decisions based on emotion, trauma, and incomplete information - Jinx is the best example, ofc. Like, besides the fact that she doesn’t actually know Vi’s been imprisoned this whole time (and without that info the logical conclusion is that Vi could’ve come down to find her whenever she wanted but didn’t), she’s also super vulnerable and has serious attachment issues, etc. Like, the characters are all fucking up constantly, which feels integral to the tragedy

(also im kinda surprised and impressed that you found heimerdonger sympathetic? idk i think i went into the series with too much baggage and just saw him as like. a very puntable neolib the first time through and only kinda came around later)

but yeah when you look at their emotional core their decisions make a lot more sense. Jayce just kinda does what the last person to talk to him wants - he’s a rly rly malleable people-pleaser so long as his ego’s being stroked. Vander wants to protect his kids/Vi above all else, and repeatedly places Vi’s safety over the good of the Lanes, mirroring Silco’s choice at the end.

I definitely don't mind characters fucking up, but sometimes it felt like they made stupid mistakes without acknowledging how stupid they were. Like, Silco choosing Jinx over the Lanes is stupid in the grand scheme but he knows it, and the choice makes sense because we've seen that he genuinely loves her. Vander making the same choice also makes sense emotionally, but I was missing a sense that he realized how stupid it was - that it would destroy the city he built. I also don't mind Jinx making bad decisions because of her trauma. But then Jayce is just...an idiot, i guess. It's true that he just does whatever the last person he talked to said, but that's a very annoying character trait, lol.

re: Heimerdonger - I think you can tell from the fact that I totally misspelled this dude's name that I didn't particularly find him memorable and I wouldn't say he's sympathetic even. But he's got that Cassandra thing of pretty much predicting the future but no one believes them. As the audience, it's so clear that he's the only one who anticipates that it's impossible to just use the arcane to make the world better, that it will lead to violence. It's not unrealistic that no one would listen to him, but it is frustrating ;)
