HARD-TO-FIND HURT / COMFORT SENTENCE STARTERS.

a selection of some of my favorite underrepresented lines and phrases for one of my favorite tropes! feel free to change wording and pronouns and provide context as necessary. do not add to this list.

'This might feel like I'm teasing you,' Gary said finally, 'but what I really want to do is condition you to the feeling, and I want to know what's possible.' 'You said that before,' Efnisien said. Gary bent down and pressed his lips to Efnisien's cheek. He heard the shaky exhale that followed. 'I don't want to hurt you,' Gary said against his skin. 'But you're going to feel some pain because I need to test some of your limits. I'm going to ask you questions, and I expect answers. By the way, I tend to stay fully dressed because I like how vulnerable it makes you feel.' Efnisien made a sound that was half-scoff, half-outrage. Gary pressed his hand to Efnisien's chest and kissed his eyebrow, and then his eyelid where the skin was thinnest.

Lace Harding/Josephine Montilyet | G | 3001 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: When the Inquisitor asks how Skyhold is treating her, Harding can't help the smile on her face when she says, "Ambassador Montilyet sent me a basket of flowers." Mer's Rec: This one caught me up in Lace's sweet and fluffy personality from the start, and the author's grasp of Lace's voice and POV was so well done that I never saw the cute little twist coming at the end. The story captures many tiny details of Harding's position as the Inquisition's lead scout and beautifully contrasts her earnestness with Josephine's practiced poise. Their interactions make sense and flow seamlessly as the story progresses; it had me smiling and laughing like a dork the whole way through.

Girls Like Braids by Katuary

Female Cousland & Fergus Cousland | G | 1375 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: Elissa goes to her brother for help fixing the disaster she's wrought of her hair. He insists on hearing how the disaster happened in the first place Mer's Rec: Sibling Bias™️and bisexual panic - what more do I need to say? I'm such a sucker for genfic, and sibling fic in particular melts my heart. The relationship between Elissa and Fergus in this piece is beautifully crafted - from their teasing banter to the fact that Elissa ultimately trusts Fergus to help her when she needs it. The other thing that really struck me is how Katuary wrote Elissa's voice. Even though she's young, and her inner monologue reflects that, she never feels dumb or stupid or naive - she reads authentically as a young child and since I know how difficult that can be to capture in writing, I really loved seeing that portrayal in this story.

Cassandra Pentaghast/Male Trevelyan | T | 3443 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: The armory is unbearably loud and Cassandra goes off in search of somewhere else to work. Mer's Rec: This is a sweet moment in-between the canon for Cass/Trev and I loved how much is showed them as people beyond their jobs. That's something I often find omitted from stories about Cass, but it was really highlighted here to great success. The author also writes an established relationship incredibly well - the affection between Trevelyan and Cassandra is natural and (without giving too much away), the actions they take in the story feel authentic to a real romantic relationship.

Hira/Miriam | G | 520 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: Miriam and Hira, at the end of it all. Or, how they kept their promise to each other, once and for always. Mer's Rec: what could have been in Absolution, if Dragon Age wasn't the series of Apostates Who Betray You ;-; This fic gives our cheese-farm gays their happy ending, and it also offers a brief but interesting perspective on the apocalyptic events of DAI from the common farmer they buy the land from! Happiness abounds, Hira and Miriam are just so in love, and we're all pretending the finale of Absolution never happened.

Female Inquisitor & Inquisition Scouts | G | 2914 words | No Archive Warnings Apply Author's Summary: The Herald is different, but that's a good thing. Members of the Inquisition interact with her and they feel seen. Mer's Rec: Told from the perspective of the Inquisition's scouts, this is a lovely look at what it's like to be in the rank-and-file of the organization, and how it feels to interact with the people at the head of it all. I loved how the awe and wonder in each interaction grew into feelings of personhood, both for the scouts and about the Inquisitor herself. The banter between the scouts and their personalities makes this story shine and (if you're like me) you'll have a good laugh at the surprise cameo toward the end!

@fish-fever is an artist that I've been eyeing for a while because of the jrwi fandom and vamps art makes me go a bit AJAHGRVRVFF maybe? Kota has very unique shape language present in zir style that makes it easy to distinguish characters from another--even if you don't know the characters too well LIEK. Not even touching on color rn.../pos

Ill be referencing a lot of art reblogged over on @/yaoicraft but I will so link pieces if thays what's up

Something I noticed from zir line art, in sketches/doodles I believe, that I particularly absorbed(loved) was like. How major or more defined spots are inked on top

[1] [2] like. Around eyes or to bring out the nose and it's so fucking dmcooll to me, especially in that example with Vynceny where the "sketch-sketch" is a different color

This isn't always applicable, but of course anatomy and details-like those zapin zig zags thayahdhbfffn-are consistent (as they would be in an art style???????)

[3] the thicker lines are there thoug!! like under the jaw or between the thighs in this example - line weight seems to be huge always

THE ZIG ZAGS. I found them a lot on noses - which are incredibly varied!! - or just when skin is being defined in general

[3] on the shouldersz , elbows ,and knees.. those three places ALWAYS, even in sick ass finished pieces

It's also on more traditional rendering like hair. Or guts!! So more natural aspects of the body or whatever that means. Clothing has similar cool cartoonisg wrinkles, but the texture being indicated is very distinctive and. separate 👍

[4] [5] [6] it goes crazy hard

I THINK ITS VRY PROMINENT IN THIS DAKOTA DRAWINGn!!

[7] The rendering is sketchier here in a way and it's so!!!!

Can't put down more examples, but the diversity in designs are so so so what I wanted to talk about

[8] Idfk these guys (I should watch Scott pilgrim somebehow)) but it showcases this so so well

All vir designs have a VIBE ve presents amazingly!!!!! Even designs all having attributes - that I think are very definitive to gores style - like the two nose lines (AUGRHRR) or the goofy cheek line for smiles, they are all very unique! Like how eyes are drawn are almost alwaayss specific to that character and it's so so so!! They all got that snchonnzer that I adore

I could go on about things I admire but imma chill for a sec thanks for coming to my Ted talk

like idk how else to say it anymore but there is a REASON that a lot of terfs are sexual assault survivors and it's specifically BECAUSE those women come pre-loaded with a severe and easy to exploit fear and distrust of men

#if you are terrified of men bcs you were hurt by one #it's a lot easier to listen to the seemingly nice ladies telling you that you're right #and all men do want to hurt you #and you have to protect yourself and other women by any means necessary #than it is to recognize that living with a debilitating fear of half the population is unhealthy #and the fact that you were hurt is NOT justification to do further harm #like trust me I have really bad anxiety that makes me scared that like fucking everyone could hurt me #it's hard to unlearn that #I'm not excusing the behavior #but I understand why these women find what terfs are selling comforting and easier to believe #is bcs they are enabling their unhealthy trauma-informed coping mechanism #until the person in question is spewing transphobia convinced they're doing what needs to be done to protect women #and like this isn't the only way terfs grow their numbers #but it is one way #and this is why I'm so insistent that an intense hatred of men is a terf dogwhistle

HARD-TO-FIND HURT / COMFORT ACTION PROMPTS.

a selection of some of my favorite underrepresented situations and actions for one of my favorite tropes! feel free to add + REVERSE to any of the prompts to change the situation and provide context as necessary. do not add to this list.

CRADLE : sender picks up the injured / unconscious receiver and holds them close to their chest, carrying them to safety.

GUARDIAN : facing down a threat, sender pushes receiver back with an arm, moving to stand in front of them and protecting them with their own body.

TENDER : receiver wakes up to sender caressing them gently; a hand carding through their hair, brushing hair off their forehead, a hand on their cheek, a thumb swiping under their eye.

SHELTER : seeing a threat barreling toward them (such as a storm, the shockwave from an explosion, or a building they’re in collapsing), sender holds the injured / incapacitated receiver close, turning their back to the threat to bear the brunt of the impact instead of the receiver.

FLICKER : sender thinks they’re too late to save receiver and begins to mourn them / sinks in defeat and grief, holding them close, only to find through a simple action (a cough, a twitch of a hand, a murmured word) that they haven’t left them after all.

DELIRIUM : receiver wakes up to sender’s relief, only for receiver to not believe it’s really sender (that they’re imagining sender or that they don’t think sender would come for them) or that they’re finally safe.

CONCEAL : both muses have been injured or have fallen ill, though sender keeps their injury / illness secret in favor of taking care of receiver. however, as receiver gets better, sender’s injury / illness worsens from lack of care, and they wind up collapsing, their injury / illness fully revealed.

GUIDE : sender has been injured, but their skills are needed to help with the muses’ current situation (an escape plan, tending a wound, or diffusing a weapon, for example). sender has to walk receiver through the procedure, all the while trying to stay conscious.

SAVIOR : receiver is at the mercy of a threat, and all seems lost, only for sender to suddenly burst in and come to their rescue, bearing weapons and all the protective spirit they can muster, to the relief / confusion / anger of receiver.

LAST RESORT : injured / sick and alone after an encounter with a threat or a run-in with a dangerous situation, sender finds themself at receiver’s door, coming to them because they have nowhere else to go.

Shoes my beloved shoe-shopping my BELOATHED

#it's so stressfuuuuul #my feet are so fussy they'll start fucking hurting after only an hour at work unless my shoes are soft as hell AND fit perfectly #which is hard to find cuz i need WIDE SIZES and those are not commonly available!!!!#& i can't get away with just wearing my perfect little tennis shoes everywhere anymore because i live somewhere with SUCH a wet climate now #so :))) i need boots :))) and the thing about boots is that #they're a serious investment if you don't want them to fall apart on you after a few weeks of wearing them to work 30 hours a week #and the thing avout serious investments is that they make me ANXIOUS #what if i get it wrong!!!! I've been wrong so many times #i get boots thinking they're comfortable enough but then it turns out they pinch my toes after a couple of hours!!!!!#and then that's almost $200 straight down the drain #plus. men's shoes generally fit me better if wide sizes aren't an option. The longer I am alive, the more my brain replays that scene in Lilo and Stitch where the scientist is watching Stitch fret around at night, and the scientist says something like, "poor thing, doesn't even have fond memories to keep it warm at night" or something

As a kid, I didn't realize how comforting memories could be, and I rarely had the luxury to create them.

I am glad I survived. It would have been easier, with fond memories to comfort me during painful times. I have many now, though, and they are indeed good company.

#i wish id sat in more trees and watched more falling stars and snuck out to watch the first colors of sunrise over the river more often.#i wished id understood how to make friends. i wish i could have been vulnerable enough to make friends. i wish surviving hadnt been a #constant struggle. it is what it is. sometimes when i was a kid id wonder if my future self would have more love for me. id ache for it to #be true--for someone to know me and still love me. and i love that younger version of myself so much. they did so good. it all hurt so #terribly but they did so good anyways. i am very proud of them for fighting through the bad things so i could find unimaginable happiness.#like life is still really hard but like...idk. i never knew id ever have a comforting friendship. i never knew someone would love all of me #its so precious to me--to exist here and now with a wife and a partner and a cat. to cherish my body and view it as a ally rather than a #nemesis and failure. this has been a big year for Learning To Be Gentle With Myself and ive found such a quiet restfulness. its peaceful in #my brain when all of the terror settles down and allows softness and quietness and gentleness to exist in my brain.#sorenhoots #and i have memories that are so warm now. they grow like a struggling garden but they grow. someday theyll grow like weeds i hope. ill do my #best to keep planting them.

Its hard to love god when it doesn't appear to love me or my friends or what's important to me but then i remember it IS me and my friends and what is important to me and i smile wide enough to start a whole new religion of one
