Ghost Camera: The Connection between Dreams & Reality
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cannot stop thinking about how strange the Ghost Camera is as a concept, and the very little lore we get about it is so fascinating. It’s to the point I have several posts planned to talk about it haha! I’ve begun watching the EN translation of Book 7, and I completely forgot that Yuu was able to take a Ghost Camera photograph of Mickey. I have a feeling that this photograph will play a role later in the story, because Ortho begins to establish a connection with Mickey, the mirror, and different worlds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see Mickey through a mirror, which only happens when Mickey is asleep and dreaming. Ortho claims that the mirror in Ramshackle may be an accidental Viewglass, where you can communicate with a person from far distances. The reason why I think this it’s because the mirror seems to be connecting to a dream realm, NOT in Mickey’s reality. It technically is haha, because the style of his room is reminiscent of the classic Mickey cartoons. But it’s still his dream, so Mickey’s corporeal body is sleeping. We know this because Mickey quite literally begins to vanish when he wakes up in his own “real world.” The properties of the Ramshackle mirror are very special, but that’s for another day (*゚▽゚*)
Tumblr media
So if Yuu managed to get a photograph of Mickey with the Ghost Camera, which explicitly captures people’s souls as well, this means that Mickey’s soul is what travels to this dream realm as he sleeps.
Of course, this is all very wishy-washy haha, but it’s a basic foundation to the idea I want to elaborate on: The fact that the Ghost Camera could be the connector between not only worlds, but dreams and reality.
Tumblr media
Magic is definitely a bit unreliable when it comes to theory making, but it’s significant that Book 7 is heavily building up magic and lore revolving dreams, and Silver with a Unique Magic like “Meet in a Dream.” If the Ghost Camera can capture the soul of a being, whose from another realm, and is DREAMING, this could be huge! We don’t know the extent of the Ghost Camera’s powers, as there’s a lot about its history that Crowley is hiding from us. The Ghost Camera was around since before the age of video, but it seems like not many functioning Ghost Camera’s are left.
Tumblr media
Ortho remarks that the previous owner of such an old camera must have taken great care of it to be in such a good condition- the previous owner being Crowley. This is true, because if Crowley’s claims of the Ghost Camera being invented when Ace’s great great grandmother was a child, this camera is in a perfectly functional condition at LEAST for 100 years, if not far more, like 150 years. Considering how small the camera is, this is very impressive that all the mechanisms and lenses have been maintained for this long, and can still print pictures perfectly in full color. Of course, it’s enchanted with magic, but it’s notable the camera existed before video.
Crowley himself states that the camera is enchanted with special magic to make the soul photography possible- but isn’t it also possible that Crowley could’ve added another property to the camera? He’s so adamant about Yuu capturing everyone’s lives, to be left behind as “Memories: Fragments of Remembrance.” The students, their behaviors, building soulbonds/friendships, the school…everything has to be captured with this camera that HE gave himself. There has to be something that he’s planning with the souls captured by the Ghost Camera, which then must connection with how the school is destroyed in the endgame.
Tumblr media
The novel also brings up the idea that everything was an “illusion.” Of course, it could just be Yuuya lamenting on the tragedy and horror of the destruction of the school and potentially lives, but magic is also a thing, making this potentially literal. The Ghost Camera can replay events that happened in the photographs, with the people in the photographs taking a corporeal form outside the photo. These forms aren’t “real,” so they could count as an illusion.
I’m not sure where I’m going with this haha, I feel like I have all these pieces but I can’t articulate how they fit together. It’s hard to predict just what Crowley’s plans are, no matter how hard I try haha! But again, Crowley having possession of an item that can capture a person in their dreams…(Don’t make this about Meleanor and Crowley, don’t make this about Meleanor and Crowley-)
Hey what would happen if Meleanor was photographed with the Ghost Camera 🤪🤪🤪 Could she be brought to “life” through the photos 🤪🤪🤪
Jokes aside, I think the “soul,” “dreams and reality,” and “imagination” will become a key parts of Book 8, and I feel like through Book 6 and Book 7, TWST has been elaborating so much more about the extent of the power of dreams, and the properties of a soul and a heart. And with the set up for connection between worlds, the Ghost Camera could potentially have the ability to bring these characters and concepts into the world of Twisted Wonderland, or at least reconstruct the Twisted Wonderland boys and certain events, by playing out the events in the photographs over and over again.
Tumblr media
What’s even more interesting is that I recently made an analysis post, based on the theory that the Major Arcana tarot cards connect to each character via that countdown art.
Crowley’s tarot card, since his countdown number is “1,” is the Magician. Feel free to read that analysis post if you want more in depth analysis! But what’s interesting is how the Magician is explicitly designed to the connector between a world above, and world below. It’s most commonly seen as the “unification of the physical and spiritual worlds.” And isn’t this interesting if this tarot card theory is intentional? That Crowley, the man who speaks of imagination being the key to magic, who gave Yuu the Ghost Camera, who put Yuu in Ramshackle Dorm to live in…he and the Ghost Camera truly may be the connector to worlds and realities far beyond Twisted Wonderland. I will definitely be elaborating soon on the potential of this idea with Crowley 👀🐦‍⬛

Hazbin Hotel Episode 5 Spoilers!
Just jotting some thoughts down on Alastor’s behavior.
Absolute pettiness aside, and the fact that Lucifer was also beefing with Alastor like, 5 seconds into meeting him, Alastor was freaking beefing with Luci before he even showed up LOL.
Everyone in the hotel witnessed Charlie’s somewhat tense phone call with her dad, except for Alastor who was probably eating breakfast at the time. So everyone except Alastor is getting ready for Lucifer to show up when he finally comes down. He seems curious about what all the fuss is about, but the moment he sees the banner welcoming Charlie’s dad, his expression sours and he becomes visibly annoyed.
Alastor is also aware that Charlie has “Daddy Issues” since he says as much in his advertisement, and it seemed like most of the others hadn’t known until Charlie’s phone call. And then Lucifer walks in the door, hugs Charlie, and we get a pan up shot of Alastor with the subtlest eye twitch EVER. Five seconds into Lucifer showing up and he’s already as pissed as he was when dealing with the Egg Bois.
Which then leads into the actual meeting between the two. Here Alastor is very clearly mocking Lucifer, very similarly to how he mocked Vaggie in the pilot, but still keeps things relatively cordial. (The absolute disrespect of shaking someone’s cane and then STILL wiping their hand afterwards). He actually greets Lucifer the same way he did with Charlie in the pilot, but is uh, significantly less genuine about it lol. And Lucifer, sensing the hostility, starts mocking Alastor as well. This all culminates with Hell’s Greatest Dad and Alastor openly mocking and calling out Lucifer’s absence from Charlie’s life as a father (and that she has someone better now LOL).
Won’t speak too much more about the song except for the absolute shit eating grin Alastor has on when he’s singing “Daaaaad!”, and how Lucifer freaking cooks and then decapitates Alastor, TWICE, in his opening song sequence.
Anyways, a lot of the stuff in episode 5 has been said already, but like, the thing my brain’s been getting caught on is Alastor, Husk, and asking Mimzy to leave. Because like. When Mimzy shows up you can see how much more relaxed and happy Alastor is around her. He openly welcomes her into the hotel, tells her to get settled in, even though he probably knows that she’s likely here because of ulterior motives. This is probably one of the few times in seven years since he’s seen and been able to chat with one of his old friends (he sees Rosie during the overlord meeting, but they don’t get the chance to talk on screen). He’s genuinely happy to see her (they hug!!!) and wants her to hang around.
A little while later though, Husk approaches Alastor and says that Mimzy’s up to something, that she’s gonna bring trouble to the hotel. That she has a history of running to Alastor for protection once she gets in over her head with something. And Alastor obviously knows this. This is probably a conversation they’ve had a lot over the years. Alastor’s confident that he’d be able to handle anything she brought their way, it’s not like any old sinner’s gonna be able to beat him, and who exactly would wanna mess with the Radio Demon? And it’s not like the confidence is unfounded. Regardless of his reputation Alastor is STILL considered an overlord, and no sinner would wanna mess with that.
He says as much to Husk, and tells him not to worry about it. Husk then points out that Alastor has been gone for a while, that nobody knows why, and implying that Alastor’s absence means his reputation’s taken a hit. That people would try messing with him now. Alastor gets a little, jumpy? Startled? Angry? At the reminder of the seven years, and then covers it up by mocking Husk and treating him like a pet, tries to get get Husk to drop the topic. And then Husk bites back, reminding Alastor of his own leash. This sets Alastor off like nothing else, and he’s immediately exercising his control over Husk’s soul, going full demon form for a moment, before looming over Husk and directly threatening him with a painful death. He forces Husk to agree to never speak of it again, before jauntily putting his “I am completely unbothered” facade (the music!) back on and leaving to catch up to the tour.
He never makes it to the tour, because the Hotel is attacked by the loan sharks Mimzy was trying to avoid pretty soon after. By this point, Alastor has just spent the morning having a pissing contest with Luficer (that ended with no winners), been told one of his (likely) few friends was gonna bring trouble to everyone else, had his own situation thrown back into his face unexpectedly, and just lost control of his temper even more so than when he was going at it with Lucifer.
He’s fucking stressed, probably has been for a while, and takes the golden opportunity the loan sharks present to vent it all out on them. It’s absolute overkill and a completely over the top beat down, turning into a fucking giant and shouting how he’s gonna “devour each and every one of you!” And just plain old rampaging. By the end he seems considerably less stressed, and he mentions how it’s been a while since he’s done something like that.
Mimzy comes over, and thanks him for the help. She also somewhat insincerely apologizes for the mess, to which Alastor says that she should go. Mimzy very rightfully thinks he’s joking, and then becomes upset once Alastor says he’s serious. For her, it’s the same as it’s always been, Alastor has never minded cleaning up her messes before, why should that change now? He LIKES helping her and taking care of her. And she’s right, Alastor does like taking care of her. He gets to be relied on and show off his ability, and the company’s not bad either.
But now he’s in a situation where he can’t be so careless anymore. It’s not just himself or Mimzy he’s responsible for. He’s now responsible for the hotel and it’s inhabitants too. He’d just been told that Mimzy would bring trouble, and he’d laughed it off because he could handle “trouble”, but it just got thrown in his face that just because he can handle it, doesn’t mean everything will be perfectly fine.
Alastor arrived late, and the hotel was wrecked. What if something worse happens next time? So he tells her to leave, because there’s more at stake now than before. She’s still welcome to stay if she really tries at redemption, but they both know that’s not her style. So Mimzy leaves, pissed, and Alastor watches her go in silence. Husk watches this happen with a smug expression and a bucket of popcorn.
Anyways, all of this to say is that I don’t think Alastor decided to deal with the problem just because he wanted to get some stress relief. I think he also volunteered because those loan sharks being there is inadvertently his fault. They’re only there because Mimzy was there, and Mimzy was only at the hotel because she was seeking Alastor’s protection. And also because Alastor was the one who welcomed her into the hotel, and didn’t ask her to leave despite the danger her presence posed and the warning he got from Husk. He got overconfident, arrogant, believed that his old reputation would be a good enough shield against attacks, and the hotel payed the price.
So him stepping up was in part stress relief, in part taking responsibility for the mess he’d inadvertently caused, and him showing the world once again that he (and the people/place associated with him) are not to be messed with.
Also, his little almost content smile while watching Charlie and Lucifer duet and reconnect and Lucifer finally choosing to support Charlie despite his fears and like, not actually interrupting the moment despite how petty he was being earlier in the day— I wanna see what’s going on in his little head and shake the answer out. Do you care? For Charlie? Did you not want to ruin this for her?? Were you happy because Charlie was able to find support in a family member? Or happy because Lucifer put aside his own issues to help Charlie because he truly dearly loves her? Or were you happy because you just had a light snack and engaged in some much needed stress relief and didn’t want to ruin the after party show? Who knows?!

regardless of whether his theories are right or not i’m so glad more people are looking into more of the clues. too many of the streamers have only been focused on one or two details
Yeahhhhh I just wanted the teams to start trying to solve the actual puzzle behind purgatory instead of just continuing to move through it with only the goal to win. Even if he is wrong people actually trying to put to the bigger picture to figure out why this is all happening is very good thumbsup

the thing about it is- and i cannot stress it enough- no new information about the game itself was released today. we have exactly as much content to work with as we did 24 hours ago, yet somehow the hype alone of the re-confirmation that the game is in fact still alive has kicked us back into kh mode and reawakened our brains at full strength
LOL LITERALLY
the hold this series has over everyone is insane!!! Just a teaser image barely hinting at anything uploaded after so long has the fandom like this; it hilarious and truly inspiring! Like we were all just hibernating 😆
Haha this whole situation has me reminiscing through similar times in the past where we just get excited for trailer release dates (which I think I would crumble with scheduling that on my calendar if that were to happen again soon) and theorizing to the smallest details of the logos and what not

hi jay!
what do you want to see in the next chapter?
do you want fyodor to actually be alive or to stay dead?
thank u and have a good day xoxo
nopressureask btw 💚
DEAD. GOD PLEASE LET HIM STAY DEAD I'M SICK OF HIS ASS!
Okay I'm over exaggerating a bit, but I truly do wish for that bastard to stay dead. He can quote Jesus all he wants, it won't resurrect him.
If Asagiri were to revive him ─ in my very humble opinion─ it would be bad writing. We already got death baited with so many characters, it's tiring after a while. This won't be the last we'll see of Fyodor though, there's still his backstory and how he'll affect the plot moving forward. He'll be that lingering stench one can't get rid of even after removing the source of the smell, if that makes sense.
What I want to see, in future chapters not just 113, is the importance Sigma will have as a character. I'll really be paying attention to him. He just got sent into a coma after absorbing mass amounts of information, and not just anyone's information, Fyodors information.
From the looks of the preview, Sigma is most definitely alive. Which brings in suspicion, why would Fyodor do that? Why give all of this knowledge to Sigma instead of killing him? Fyodor is no idiot, he obviously knew what he was doing. He wouldn't make a mistake like that. Perhaps Fyodor knew something bad would happen to him and did that as a precaution.
My guess is that he was hoping to corrupt Sigma. Let Sigma witness his horrors and his ideology, his plans and the reasons for it, and maybe that'll be enough to get him to turn and join his plans, continue them even.
Knowledge is a dangerous thing, and for someone like Sigma, how will he be able to handle it.

Can I just say that as much as I'm usually talking into the void here, I'm so grateful for this community, even if I'm usually hanging out on the sidelines?
It's so nice to be able to come on here and write my silly little posts about the things Taylor's music makes me think about and to then have you wonderful people continue the discussion, or to read what you are all observing or analyzing and have my mind blown or chuckle or share in the joy or whatever.
For comparison, there are people who I used to love talking about this stuff with but over the years they've soured on Taylor (totally her prerogative) and we've stopped being able to have these discussions, because the nuance just goes out the window in the process. Like thinking Taylor was obsessive for writing as much as she did about JG because they were only together three months (when those of us who follow her realize it was more complicated than that), or insisting Midnights is a breakup album and the last year and a half of the relationship with Joe was fake going through the motions or fake and that they broke up way before tour (when... it's pretty damn obvious when it happened from the set list alone) and thinking TTPD is just going to be a diss album used to bury a helpless ex (...) or using the situation last May (ahem) as proof of her callousness or whatever, when again a more human answer is that she wasn't exactly thinking clearly and in The Pit in the wake of a life-changing upheaval etc. Or what really gets me, dismissing the Snakegate stuff as her being petty and holding onto grudges and ignoring the really intense mental and physical consequences that she dealt with for years afterwards.
Which is not to say this is all about her personal life, but that by being able to look at the music through a more nuanced lens instead of, like, taking it literally, for lack of better word, it colours in the lines and not only situates the music more in the context in which it was created, but also makes it feel richer to our own interpretations and associations with it. I LOVE when we all go back and find parallels with her other songs, and it's even more fun now because the mash-ups on stage show Taylor does the same thing with her own music! It's such a rich tapestry and we're in such a unique position as fans where an artist is reaching (if not has reached) living legend status in real time, while at an unprecedented level of creative output, and we get to digest the music and study it and watch it evolve before our eyes!
It's just really nice to have a space online where we *can* do that, because I feel like there just is nowhere else to really do that? It seems like people I know in real life either a) actively avoid her music (totally fair, not everyone's cup of tea) b) only care in terms of current pop culture value (also fair, although it gets annoying when it veers into TikTok brainrot into easter egging and shit instead of being about hte music) or c) obsessed with the Travis romance of it all. And I think most online spaces are kind of caught in these camps too. It's either unrelenting criticism (which is fine, not everyone has to like her and there are valid things to critique, even if I don't particularly care to myself) veering into hatred for the sake of hatred, or obsessing over her personal life to the point of dehumanizing her as a person and artist.
I know I'm being a cupcake but like, this is the cupcake website, so who cares. I use this space to delve into the shows and movies and music I love because there isn't anywhere else you can curate your experience as much as you can here. And when it comes to Taylor's music, I love that I can just spill my guts about what sets my brain on fire (affectionate) and the connections that emerge and just how much it makes me feel. And between the reblogs and comments and messages, it's slightly less lonely talking to everyone else too.
So, thank you friends! I don't know why I'm in my feels today but it seems like as good a time as any!
