It's hard to believe that this scruffy corner of Grove Farm was once home to this war memorial. The column, inscribed with 227 names of Lyons employees killed in WW1 was unveiled on 7 October 1922. The screen behind it, with 247 names was unveiled in 1947. The original location was in Lyons sports grounds, but when they were sold in the 1960s the memorial was moved to the factory grounds in Oldfield Lane North. The eventual amalgamation of the company into Allied Domecq led to the closure of the huge Greenford site and the memorial was put into storage before being rededicated at the Margravine Cemetery in Hammersmith.
