The woodland amphithere (Amphitheris silva), also known as the fairy dragon or the beech wyrm, is a small draconoid endemic to the broadleaf forests of the Sunken Continent.

Vestigial wings aid in both gliding and thermoregulation. Each wing can move independently of one another, and their membranes can be freely contracted and expanded (see last image/GIF in gallery). The shapes of these wings have evolved to resemble the leaves of beech, hornbeam, and other marcescent trees that are the favored hunting territories of woodland amphitheres. Whole covens have been observed sunning themselves on tree branches in autumn and winter.

Fur-like moss growth on its head and tail enable it to supplement its primarily insectivorous diet with photosynthetic energy. This adaptation along with their unique wing structure allows them to forego hibernation altogether in more temperate regions.

Two pairs of eyes make these creatures adept hunters. The rostral pair are used to observe shape and color while the caudal pair specialize in tracking the movement of their prey.

Like many extant members of the amphitherid and other draconoid families, the woodland amphithere possesses relays, growths on the head which house complex electroreceptors. Relays in this species have evolved as rigid, antler-like structures. The exact purpose of these relays is unknown, but it is hypothesized that they may be involved in communication between members of a given coven.

Woodland amphitheres are semisocial and congregate in single-generation groups known as a coven or a flight. Covens are typically made up of six to ten individuals, although covens as large as two dozen have been observed. While they do not exhibit the same coordinated hunting prowess of other amphithere species, they are still remarkably sociable and have been observed to groom and to sing to one another.

Eggs are laid in communal nests in small ponds in early spring, and the brood is left to fend for itself by the parent coven shortly after hatching. The fry begin life as tadpole-like creatures with their wings and relays becoming fully developed by midsummer. The brood may linger for up to a year near its birth pond before leaving in search of new hunting territory.

Birds of prey, including eagles, owls, and lesser rocs, are typical predators of woodland amphitheres. Its primary defense is its own coven, which will swarm upon and harass the predator to drive it away. Larger covens have even been known to kill and subsequently feed on their would-be attackers, especially during the nesting season.

First entry in what will be a small series of original dragon amigurumi patterns following a general amphithere body plan (basically all wing and no leggies lol).

My personal challenge for each of these is that I cannot directly reference patterns from other creators. This is to (1) force me to figure out how to work up complex shapes and (2) so that I can avoid copyright infringement if I ever decide to sell these patterns a later date. Which was why a good portion of the time for this entry was working out the shapes of the leaves for the wings, haha.

Another concept/sketch batch I have been sitting on for a while, suppose I could toss this out into the aether now haha Basically it's a whole chaos space marine warband based around mimicry and infiltration - they look like a suspiciously normal space marine chapter from the outside but OOPS! It's all mimics.

(And not just the space marines/power armor, but everything is game: crew fused with their vehicles, transforming weapon "familiars," etc. It gets silly.)

They stem from the Raven Guard but can end up anywhere, and will take on the colors/appearance necessary to pass undetected. there is a catch though: their presence has a tendency to cause things around them to start to warp and glitch and in extreme cases, essentially cause little warp micro-rifts that end up mimic-ifyng things around them - so they pretty much have to operate solo to have the best chance at keeping their disguise up.

This CAN work to their advantage though if they are attacking in full-force as a warband, and some older members might have fallen too far to Chaos to keep up a normal "shell" anymore, so the overly mutated fellows have to be put to different uses (in fact, there a degree of hierarchy of mutation stages that influences how they organize themselves as a warband & determines everyone's primary functions. And it's not really one over the other either - there are not all that many of them, so they have more luck spreading their influence clandestinely versus relying on brute force of any kind, that would have to be for emergencies. So, some of the more senior & mutated fellows might be more powerful on a physical/psychic level, but it is also like a forced retirement from their infiltration role, so it limits what they can do to further the warband's interests.)

ALL OF DAPHNE'S TRANSFORMATIONS. INCLUDING UPDATED NYMPHIX.

Previously Fairy of the Dragon Flame now Fairy of Embers. She doesn't have any transformations others than these because she was fast tracked into the nymphix path, and unlike the winx the majority of fairies don't pursue additional transformations past enchantix. (i think Daphne would be interested in Dreamix tho, so maybe I'll draw that eventually.

Her major color shifted after dying and being revived, which is shown in her winx and enchantix.

other lore and design notes below!

I changed her major color from orange/yellow to more of a teal/green because. she just doesn't look good in yellow I'm sorry I really tried but it wasn't working. Also little updates to her hair color, nothing huge tho. Daphne's primary motifs are a branching "Y" shape and a double oval/tear drop. She's a pants when possible girlie and a one set winger(yes her nymphix looks like it have multiple wings but they all merge into one stem on each side) . Her scars from her Sirenix being ripped out of her caused her winx/enchantix to change a little to cover them(mostly seen in the arms) due to insecurity. Her Dryadix/nymphix flower is a daffodil! because pun Daph-Daff, and Daffodils symbolize rebirth and new beginnings (also creativity, energy, resilience, forgiveness and vitality). Her Harpix wings aren't super specificly patterned, but she has darting wings common in small song and seed birds (robins, finches, brown birds etc.) the coloring is referential of a Shrike (also called a Butcher Bird), because Daphne was. incredibly dangerous and if she had sided with the ancestral probably would have been given a moniker similar to Butcher of Domino or Daphne the Slaughterer. (some people do call her these but its mostly among people who dislike Domino/The Royal Family.)

Lore! Daphne doesn't have a great sense of self, she was planned as a necessary successor to Marion/the dragon flame in a period as the ancestral witches were escalating their attacks and search for the dragon flame. Bloom was a back up baby in case both Daphne and Marion got dead and basically worked as intended haha. Daphne was also much more publicly involved in the kingdom than many of the other royals in winx (Stella, Aisha, Krystal and even Galatea to an extent all had rather sheltered upbringings) in a way Daphne is much more like Sky and Thoren in the since that none of them really had the space to develop their own personality outside of their familial duty.

Daphne's 1st winx and enchantixes are as direct a copy of her mom's Enchantix as you can get with transformations, right down to the more greenish tint of her major color. Growing up Marion used her fairy form liberally, so that, combined with being the next Dragon Flame holder left a deep impact on Daphne's subconscious. Daphne was also heavily influenced by Faragonda during her Alfea and Nymphix Quest years, but since she was older this isn't as deep an influence. After being revived, Daphne's years of defining herself as her connection to Bloom causes her major color to shift more blue in response to her trauma. Daphne is slowly starting to develop a sense of self outside of her titles/connections but it's unlikely her major color will shift again unless she has another major trauma.

(for the record the Winx do have trauma over the timeline I have laid out that would potentially cause their major colors to shift but I didn't do that for a couple reasons 1, their colors are iconic and make them easily recognizable as characters; 2, I'm a tired bitch. )

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your comic making process? I find it hard to make comics that look eye-pleasing to read and yours are like candy.

Ah, comics! Dig under cut to see some old wips as I attempt to explain my nightmare thought process to you.

For making a comic AESTHETIC and APPROACHABLE:

I've noticed that it's easier for people to be pulled into a comic if I set the environment first and foremost, so people have some vague context for the scene. Of COURSE that's not always necessary ( there are a lot of comics that start out without environmental story telling and it works perfectly) but I've always liked having a lil illustration before digging my rat claws into the meat of the story.

For example! “Emmet and Elesa have a clandestine meeting in the library at 4 am.”

The sketch was sort of the jumping point to where I wanted to go with the comic. I wanted to a. explain wtf is happening and b. draw a nice conclusion about what the f is happening.

You don't need to make the environment available in every panel too! I'd suggest making your first panel tell all the environment detail you need and then like... slowly removing irrelevant detail from there. And then hit folks with the background again at the end. (So basically, you don't see the library in this comic until the beginning and a bit towards the end. I have tricked you! aha!) So that's one tip i have. For Readability: Anyways, to make a comic easy to read, spacing is super important. Dialogue tends to cramp a shot by a WHOLE lot. For example! Remember the "Lamp is told she's beloved (and has a tsundere moment over it"? That used to be TWO panels. Man. Nightmare fuel. Lemme find it. (This is the rough. I Lined It, realized the pacing is off, and then withered. Please don't look at it too hard.)

So here's the thing. This READS. But the sheer amount of dialogue in the beginning is fatiguing for me and the "you are beloved, Lampent" NEEDS that oomph of both characters realizing that over the span of years, their relationship stopped being antagonistic and started being family instead. Some folks are fine with blocks of dialogue, but I have the attention span of a patrat on candy. I will not make it. SO! To match the almost moody atmosphere, I stretched the comic out. I stretched that bad boy out a LOT. And I got this out of it.

Something to keep in mind in comics is there's always going to be one or two iconic lines. Lines that make people FEEL things. Those lines deserve their own panel, their own shot, their whatever. A good story has lulls in its conversation. If you can replicate it, you're winning. Character Blocking:

So basically no, it's not all witchcraft. It's only a bit of witchcraft. Another thing that helps is differentiating characters if they're on the same panel is by solid blocks of color. I have, for the longest time when working on storyboards, blocked characters different tones in order to help differentiate them. Don't be shy! Do that if it helps your comics read! Ingo will always be darker shaded then emmet. The angry nightlight will always have some hint of purple on her (unless I forget). The first goal in a story is to convey information, hehe. Here's an example of color blocking! (This is from a VERY old botw comic I did for linktober in 2021.)

It's, ah, rather rustic compared to what I do. usually. I know! BUT the primary goal here is to convey where the characters are in relation to each other. And the fact they're color coded makes life easier for both reader and artist. Alright! That's all the tips I can think of off the top of my head. Time to get off that soap box, haha. Overall: Basically, my work process is-- draw a story telling image/ write a funny piece of dialogue. Build the comic around that. Pace it so the important lines stand out. Color code the characters for max visibility. And then four to twelve hours of lineart, but that's neither here or there.

Thinking about the scenario where secret agent reader (so like CIA or MI6 and things like that) meets Gaz at a bar and scores. Drinks and talking and dancing, until Gaz suggests you go back to his place. Once there, before things get steamy, you excuse yourself to the bathroom to freshen up and get ready, but it's actually to stash away your hidden weapons you carry with yourself all the time. Only, when you figure out a good spot, you already find weapons there already.

And it clicks. How he gets dodgy when work comes up, how his dance moves vaguely resemble basic fighting regiments, etc... Seems theres more to the man than just his charm.

Two men by the door, performing a sweep across the dance floor in opposing schedules. They're standing in front of the primary exit with another guard standing at the emergency exit. The solo guard appears 5'10-5'11, weighing around 200lbs and the bruised knuckles means he's accustomed to rowdy customers and bar fights. Based on his wide stance, I could probably sweep at his leg befor- "Hey, want to take this back to mine?" Kyle's voice whispered in your ear, interrupting your covert surveillance. You blinked a few times as you took in his offering. It was difficult for you to shut off your years of CIA training and actually relax for once. Even now, you were slightly suspicious of this unemployed and handsome 20-something who was holding you by the waist at the bar. Yet since he locked eyes with you in the crowded room, it was clear the tension was palpable. Before he could ask again, you put a hand on his.

"Is it close or do you plan on carrying me, Kyle?" you winked, and even under the dim lights, you could see his cheeks slightly heat up. As he tried to stifle down the remainder of his drink, you decided to interrogate him a bit more before he took you to his. "Your silence is telling me, you haven't been to the gym in a while," you teased as you eyed his fit figure, "you look like you're more of a cardio man anyways." He shook his head at your not-so-subtle observations, having an endearing chuckle at the comment. "Well you did say my dancing looked like some silly American MMA thing," you giggled as he said that. It was just a sarcastic comment you made as you saw him methodically make his way across the dance floor, dodging the various drinks and drunken moves of the other patrons. "Anyways," he continued, downing his drink, "you might have just revealed my love for some combat training." With that, he gave you a wink and you melted in your seat. You found yourself endeared by his subtle jokes and shining smile. It made you push aside all the stress of work and effortlessly lie through your teeth about your hidden life.

After you closed your tab, Kyle held the door for you and ushered you politely out of the loud club. He walked beside you, hand in pockets and a relaxed smile on his face, as he navigated through the streets. You made small talk about some of the wild moments from the club and the fact you had both spent a fortune on drinks and shots. "Glad I saved up for this vacation," you lied, continuing with your story of an American tourist in London, "the 9-5 was all worth it for some strong drinks and a pretty face." In the cold night air, you could see his face become illuminated with the street light and the way his cheeks curved up in a hearty laugh. "You Americans and your toxic work culture," he chided as he bumped you with his elbow, "hopefully I can show you how to take it slow tonight." You blushed profusely at the comment and bit your lip as Kyle took a turn to a row of flats.

"This one's mine," he whispered and fumbled to find his keys. You stood there idly as you looked down at the street. It seemed quiet, nothing, particularly of notice. In fact, if you were looking for a safe house this would be ideal as it was perfectly tucked in between mundane families. "Home sweet home," he presented and you walked into the furnished flat. You peeked around and noticed the lack of personality within the home besides some paintings and postcards. A thin layer of dust lay amongst everything and the house smelled distinctly of a wall plug-in, probably bought this morning. He noticed your gaze and shrugged slightly. "I haven't had time to make this place nice," he sheepishly confessed, "been helping out with my family for the last few weeks." You nodded before you walked closer to him. "So what do you want to do now that I'm here?" you flirted before you closed the gap with a soft placement of your lips on his.

You felt a mix of happiness and uncertainty in your stomach. To the special agent inside you, it was the sign things were going a bit too well. But to the normal person, it was the presence of butterflies in your stomach. He tasted of a mix of alcohols and smelled vaguely of wood and santal. He wrapped his strong arms around you as you shuffled backward to the bedroom. You could feel him lower you softly onto the bed before you pulled him a bit closer with your arms around his neck. As he pulled up to look at you in this vulnerable state, you realized you were being poked by an object. Your mind went to a certain place for a moment until you realized it was actually the knife strapped to your thigh that was poking you. Your face dropped when you realized where things were going. You hastily pushed Kyle off of you before running off unceremoniously to the bathroom. "Sorry just have to pee! Those drinks are running through me," you joked through the door as you navigated to the master bathroom across the room.

"Take your time," you could hear him echo through the door as you put down the toilet seat. You looked around the small bathroom and tried to figure out where to hide the knife. More like knives, you thought when you realized you had another two strapped to your boot. "Oh fuck me," you whispered as you tried to look around. Within the bathroom, there was a small medicine cabinet with a mirror and a few drawers underneath the sink. You flushed the toilet hurriedly and ran the sink as you opened up the bottom drawer ever so carefully. When you opened it, you were not expecting to see another collection of tactical knives and a gun facing back at you. You tried to stifle your surprise as you gently picked up the firearm. You turned it to see it was inscribed with PROPERTY OF THE ROYAL ARMY etched into the side. You placed it down gently as underneath it lay an official-looking ID. You read the details quickly as you focused on the serious face of one Sergeant Kyle Garrick. You looked at the picture resembling the man in the next room, verifying all of the signature markings of an official government ID. "You alright in there?" you could hear his question as you quickly shut the drawer. You hastily turned off the tap before returning to the bedroom.

Kyle was lying casually on the bed and you could tell he had generously sprayed some vanilla room spray to cover up the mustiness of the unattended flat. Explains the dust and lack of furnishings, you thought as you stood leaning against the doorway. "Find anything interesting?" he flatly asked and you couldn't help but be caught off guard for the first time this evening. "What do you mean?" you bluffed but he stopped you with a flick of his hand. "The sink was running for a bit too long," he joked, "plus I know what those drawers sound like when they slam." You let out a dry laugh before sitting back next to him. "Well, I guess I should say I did find something," you said as you looked at his eyes, mixed with uncertainty, "you really should keep your weapons in a better location." As he tried to come up with a myriad of excuses, you put a hand on your chest. "As long as you don't mind if I put mine away, I won't question it, Sergeant," with that, Kyle tried to hide his surprise as you unsheathed your weapons from your person. "Do I want to know?" he joked hesitantly before you made your way on top of him. "You can ask in the morning, Garrick."

The next morning, you raced over to your hotel and barely made it to your 9 am meeting in the office suite. "Wonder who Laswell has me working with now," you mumbled as you nodded to the agents guarding the secured room. You should have seen the look on your face when you locked eyes with Kyle, who sat equally as shocked and secretly sporting a hickey underneath his uniform collar.

Digimon Tamers - Episode 51 (final episode!)

Yay! I enjoyed this finale. It was basically like the inverse of Adventure where instead of the kids having to go back to the real world it was the digimon having to return to the digital world. It was probably not as emotional as Adventure because the goodbyes were kind of abrupt, but it was close enough. I feel satisfied :^)

Notes:

Exciting title card is exciting. Gotta love it when the final episode switches up the intro for dramatic effect.

Sakuyamon's armor bursts off and her hair streams out when she gives Cyberdramon her power. I was kind of giggling at how fanservicey that was (I wonder if it awakened anything in anyone), but it was nice to see Ruki and Ryo finally cooperating and Ruki respecting Ryo as a teammate.

Lots of flowing hair in this episode: Sakuyamon, Ruki and Juri all get this treatment. Honestly it kinda made Ruki and Juri look really similar in my screenshots (see below), whoops. Other than that, they looked nice.

They probably just look more similar than normal here because of Juri's serious expression.

Nice of the holy beasts to show up and help, but they barely showed them (you could only see them fading into the distance). I wish they had the budget to animate them more up close because then their heroic moment would have had more oomph.

Why did Juri suddenly have 90s anime eyes in that one scene? She looked so cute lol (Culumon too)

Nice to see the less powerful, more defensive digimon save the day in this with Culumon using a barrier on Juri and then MarineAngemon doing the same for everyone to get them out of the D-Reaper bubble.

I laughed out loud when the goddess monster moaned it's way into the pit. Why was that so goofy sounding? Totally took away any cool-factor for that thing

Now that I think about it, when MarineAngemon saves the day, Hirokazu, Guardromon, and Lopmon did not need to be there. Guess they just wanted to participate haha

Poor Jian and Terriermon have to spin super hard to revert the D-Reapers power. The little "momantai" with swirling eyes was super cute.

It's revealed that part of sealing the digital world and real world connection means that all the partner digimon have to go back to the digital world, but first they revert to babies! Omg the baby digimon were so cuuuute ;w; Guilmon was a lil bean and hearing the super-serious Renamon's baby voice was great too.

We got a cheesy "Primary colors' insert song that I'm guessing was sung by the VAs, looking forward to giving that a closer listen.

It's interesting to think about what having digimon in the real world would even mean if there are no threats. They just hang out slice of life style? Are there any mon shows like that where there's no fighting? Sounds cute but it probably wouldn't sell as many toys lol.

I was like "gah! Why is there an elf in their class??"

Glad they didn't end with a silly "and then 20 years later they had all the babies" epilogue. Open-ended is best. Good for the imagination and good for the franchise if they ever want to do more with these characters.

All in all, this was a good kids show. It didn't blow me away or anything, but it was probably stronger than 02 at least. Since no one talks about the other series I can only assume it's all downhill from here -cries- Nah, JK. I'm looking forward to checking out everything else. But first, video game and manga time baby! :D

i tried skims... here is my review.

i thought this would be an interesting assessment/reveiw to apply to both astrology and the wyrd web.

let's start with astrology... i am a pisces rising (we are off to a good start as a pisces rising should love shape ware), sagittarius venus (i like fun and flirty clothing - haha i would try their micro once ig - tbh i would try anything once), capricorn lilith (i live for style and quality - if it looks basic, but expensive i like it), and virgo aphrodite (i want something that looks classic and is practical - which slightly contradicts a micro (which i didn't buy one (thank god)), but fun can still be practical and flirty can still be classic).

as for the wyrd web... i am a lover (6) core person, so of course, i will want to try a popular underwear brand. since we are talking about underwear, the energies of my root chakra (the chakra closest to the underwear region and ruling over external genitalia) are important. i have the high priestess (2) for the physics, who while conservative is still ruled by the moon and is a symbol of feminine energy (mother, maiden, and crone). the world (21) for the energy - she is nude on her card but a simple cloth is artfully draped in front of her from lower rib to upper thigh (tell me that's not underwear haha). and for the emotional energy i have the hierophant (5) who, while also conservative, is a venus-ruled individual - a taurus, in particular.

i feel like i was made to talk about skims; it gives off neptunian vibes because it is shape ware, but when looking at the site they generally have only earthy/muted tones (i got that going on) and they are supposed to be selling basics while being inclusive to everyone which i can get behind as a virgo aphrodite and capricorn lilith person (i love when everyone can get the same styles). my web is also very fortunate in terms of fashion especially where this article of clothing is concerned. i also feel like as a hierophant emotional muladhara person i can really preach about underwear haha - SO THIS IS MY MOMENT.

why did i buy skims?

to be honest, this is not something i myself would have gone for because i don't really like the kardashians, and i feel like they have enough money without needing mine... i also saw this stuff when it first came out and was not impressed. my aunt (she is a empress (3) higher self person, so of course, she wanted to get me something very venus-esque) however loves the kardashians... as a wheel of fortune (10) material person, who am i to not try something new to me on another person's dime haha.

cotton (what else can you expect from a virgo aphrodite person with a hierophant muladhara) rib brief bundle (3 for 36.00 USD) and long sleeve turtleneck (56.00 USD).

what do i think of the turtleneck?

i like it a bit more than the underwear (which is bad in my eyes considering one of skims primary goal is to be "the next generation of underwear"). my complaint, however (i am picky; i can't help it as a virgo aphrodite person), is the quality... i feel as though it is rather thin, not see through oddly enough. BUT as a northeastern girlie, this is not the most helpful for winter ware.

what do i think of the underwear?

bro, i am not happy. maybe it is because of the band on the rib brief BUT like what is happening? i am moderately small and toned, yet i look ridiculous? like why do i look like i am flooding out of the underwear? their size chart says that i would fit this size, yet i feel that it runs smaller perhaps...? i don't feel like, for my pad girlies, you could reasonably wear these on your period (the gusset, or vaginal panel, is just to thin/narrow, in my opinion, for a pad even for a brief cut - i feel like the pad will just be hanging off on the sides?). also the band on the rib brief hits every annoying place for a period - their is no space for bloating either haha (sorry this is just the high priestess girlie in me).

would i recommend skims?

no :) the price point doesn't match the quality in my opinion.

Eeeekk!!! Screams!!! I love sharing how they look so this is...very good question for me. This is a bit of a...long list so I'm putting it under the cut, though I'm going to try and not type more than like three sentences or less for each of them so it's mostly just gonna be pictures. But I'm just showin my humanized ideas for how my primary F/Os look, but I do have humanized headcannons for...I kid you not everyone in the franchise.

!!!Not all the art here is mine!!! For the art that is not mine I will be writing their respective credentials and what social media platform it was originally posted on. I tried to stick to using my art as much as I could but I don't have a lot of digital drawings of them, nonetheless ones I'm ready to reveal to the world haha(though some I'll gladly share)

I'm pre-appologizing(/half joking) for not having any normal drawings of F.inn, I don't know how all my digital drawings(that are colored) of him ended up being incredibly self-indulgent, I didn't even realize I did that till now! Heya everybody! I'm not sure where the thought for this came from but I wanted to make a post that just has all of my OCs' refs in it in case anyone ever needs to find them and doesn't wanna ask me for them (which ur always welcome to do btw!) or doesn't wanna go digging through their Toyhouse galleries. This will be linked in my pinned post as well, so if you ever need to find it again, it'll be there! these are jellies from the S.E.A aquarium in singapore!! i think they had more jellies actually but i didn't take pictures... the aquarium overall was pretty cool though, they had lots of huge tanks with large fish and sharks.

the last picture is just a screenshot of a video, but they had the moon jellies housed in a tank where they continually rotated through different lighting colors. it was super pretty but i was wondering if the jellies would be bothered by the constantly changing lights??

AHHH THESE ARE LOVELY!! and your camera skills are so much better than mine, haha. I love how crisp and clear they all turned out ^-^!! (Maybe it's also because the lighting in the aquarium is better? Well, regardless, these are gorgeous photos.)

Rating (14/20):

Diversity - 6/10 - The included species seem to be pretty generic all things considered, but at least there's some variety

Presentation - 8/10 - Everything looks neat and clean, and the Rhizostomid jellyfish have some pigmentation on them. Also, I'm a sucker for Jellyfish Raves.

Learning - N/A - Haven't been there in person, can't say for sure how good the information is.

(I'll ramble a bit about jellyfish eyes under the cut!)

You actually bring up a great point! However, you need not worry about these poor jellyfishes' eyes- they should be completely fine.

Moon Jellyfish are part of Class Scyphozoa- which are about in the middle when it comes to "seeing organ" complexity in Sub-class Medusozoa (or the Jellyfish Subclass).

Their primary seeing organs (Ocelli) are contained within "Rhopalia"- which also control orientation (the uh, position kind not the pride kind) through statocysts and also bell pulsation.

Unlike Box Jellyfish, which have true eyes that can perceive different wavelengths of light, ocelli can only perceive brightness.

Moon jellies exhibit vertical migration (basically raise to the surface during the day and to the bottom at night), so perhaps if the brightness of the lights are played with too much, it might confuse their natural sense of migration? But jellyfish do not have a brain, so I think they will be fine regardless :)

However, since we are on the topic of rhopalia, did you know that moon jellyfish polyps were sent to space in mission STS-40? There's a video on youtube about that with the ugliest looking jellyfish I've ever seen (affectionate). Apparently, they developed just fine in space, though their statocysts seemed to develop improperly. Poor little guys.

So I've been in a bit of a blocked headspace recently, and when Jambee retweeted that one pic- of Jack looking at himself basically- I got struck with an idea.

I figured it was gonna be about 300 words but here we are about 743 words later, haha! Hope ya'll enjoy!

Mirrors.

There was nothing worse, honestly.

He'd been glad his Sunshine just assumed he couldn't see his reflection since they couldn't. Lying to them is something he wouldn't have had it in him to do, although he certainly didn't want to tell them the truth either.

He could see his reflection.

Although reflections were supposed to show yourself, were they not?

He couldn't tell which one of them was the real him.

The real him...

Who was the real him?

Surely this was, wasn't it?

Blue hair, red face paint, primary colored clothing and a chipper tune.

But if this truely was him, then why didn't his reflection, well, reflect that?

Brown hair, tired eyes, and those tattoos he eventually wished he'd never gotten.

None of that was him, no. At least, not anymore. It was quite clear when he looked down at himself and saw that he was how he wanted to be.

So why was he the one staring back at him? Why did his reflection not reflect him?!

Is this not good enough?

Sunny Day Jack was perfect.

Perfect bod, perfect friend, perfect at keeping his life together, perfect lover-

He could go on about how perfect he was.

It was quite the struggle to get here, so why shouldn't he feel a little bit proud about how perfect he'd become?

Yet here I am, still like this.

Sure his past may be a bit more... Imperfect. But we all make mistakes at some point! As long as we learn from them and do better, that's what matters most. That's how one becomes perfect.

The perfect spouse, the perfect defender, the perfect caregiver, the perfect actor-

There was a gunshot, and then...

He was perfect for the role, because he was the role! Nobody embodied Sunny Day Jack better than he, for he was THE Sunny Day Jack!

...

Was

...

It's clear he's not too happy with himself. With who he was. He tried so hard to change, to be perfect- for everyone else's sake! Say the right things, don't do the wrong things, and bury, bury, bury, bury, BURY everything that wasn't relevant to his new life anymore.

He tried so d- so HARD to make sure everything would be perfect and yet...

The reality he was a ghost had not escaped him.

His Sunshine was the only one who could see him, hear him, touch him...

If being unseen and unheard and unfelt by the world at large wasn't the qualities of a ghost, then what was it?

He cherished the bond he had with his beloved Sunshine. They gave him reprieve from that torment, proved that perhaps God had heard his prayers and sent someone to save him-

Saving that wouldn't need done if it wasn't for-

A gloved hand rested on the mirror. His reflection looked like it was crying. Was he crying too? He couldn't tell.

And quite frankly, the anger beginning to bubble up didn't care.

If it wasn't for a couple stupid mistakes, this mess wouldn't have ever been a thing! Why couldn't you have just stopped and thought about things for once in your life?! Maybe actually thought about the future and what you could have done to help it?! No, no no no no no! Making a statement right then and there was all that mattered. Yes, nothing truly important mattered until you had already messed everything up, and left it to a different, actually mature version of yourself to fix-

"Jaaack? Where aaaare youuuu?~"

A familiar voice carried from the bedroom.

It snapped Jack out of his thoughts and he froze, a fist he did not realize he had raised mere inches from shattering the mirror. His reflection stared back him, hollow and desperate.

He looked away, embarrassed. Slowly, he lowered his arms and relaxed his grip.

What a silly reaction, shattering a mirror wouldn't do anything but-

-but bury things yet again.

Perhaps it best some things stay buried.

"I'm in the living room Sunspot!~"

His voice rang out, matching his beloved's sing-song tune.

Already he was doing his best to forget what almost transpired. Moving quickly to the couch and plastering on his signature smile, his mind took heed and moved onto more important matters.

Such as looking up to see his bright little ray of Sunshine emerging from the hallway with a blanket in one hand and a dvd in the other.

"Movie night?"

He patted the open spot next to him.

"I'd love nothing more."

When the EMs use their powers, what does it feel like to them? Is there a physical/metaphysical sensation related to their element? Is it different for each one?

Okay! Before getting into that, here’s a bit of a little refresher, and further clarification:

So, as previously discussed, an Elemental Master is seen as 1:1 with their Element. They are their Element, the Element is them, AND they are connected (very important key word for later in the story) at the soul. At the very center of both a Master and an Element’s being is the other, so to speak. What one feels, so does the other, and while both sides may have a will, the real difference between a Master and their Element is that a Master has awareness, hence why most of the time the Master is the one in primary control.

Losing that awareness is what briefly occurs during an Outburst, and can be something permanent that happens in NRG Mode. This is why the pupils fade during Outbursts/NRG Mode—it’s a physical representation of the Master’s reduced awareness and the Element taking over.

(...ooh, and while we’re on the topic, this is once again why pupil color is also important: Black means no element connection whatsoever, whether being just your average human or an Non-Inheritor Descendant; White means potential elemental connection regardless of whether it’s Pre-Potential or Lost Potential; and Colored means attained elemental connection, which occurs Post-Potential...even if you as an Elemental Master “”forgot”” what your True Potential was.)

Anywaaaay, with that in mind, physically using the Element is different depending on the state that Master is in when the Element is being called upon:

When using their powers “normally” (i.e. after obtaining True Potential and using their powers/abilities), this is the Master controlling the Element (Master > Element). Subconsciously using abilities won’t really invoke any particular feeling (i.e. Zane’s visions, Nya talking to fish, Jesse surprising people/being surprised), but when an effort is made to connect with the Element within, that’s when the physical/metaphysical sensations kick in. Cole will feel more like a rock; heavier, sturdier, unstoppable. Jay will feel more like a bolt of lightning; wired, uncontainable, untouchable. It’s like...by going out of their way to connect with the Element, they manifest their own elemental traits more outwardly, I suppose. They get amplified too, in a way.

When using their powers in NRG Mode, this is where Master and Element are ultimate sync (Master = Element). Master and Element work in perfect tandem; the Element doesn’t overpower/takeover the Master (...at first), and the Master doesn’t have to work as hard to call upon the Element. They are each other, they are one, and using powers feels as natural as breathing yet it’s so much more. Everything about yourself mirrored in the Element itself, to the point that it feels like a complete miracle and the most obvious thing at the same time...or, everything and nothing all at once (eye emoji).

For example, Zane in NRG can experience every sensation of Ice itself in an instant, which would be overwhelming to anyone else, but to him it’s like he’s truly living for the first time (ignoring any Nindroid aspects that could be at play, haha). There’s not the slightest bit of resistance or hesitation; you know exactly what the Element wants to do and how to achieve it, and you can command it with the ease of waving a hand. And, everything occurs just as you’d expect it would.

(...okay, well, this one’s better to explain element by element buuuuut that’s what True Potential scenes are for. Otherwise I’d be here waxing element poetic all day and I ain’t got that time ;V. Basically in this state everything feels natural and like you’re in the element itself and the way things are “supposed” to be!)

...but lingering in NRG Mode for too long opens the window for the Element to overtake the Master, and instead of the Master channeling the Element from their soul, the Element commandeers the Master from the soul (so, Master < Element). Inversely to the first method, instead of a Master amplifying aspects of an Element to themselves, the Element amplifies what a Master feels to enforce the Element’s will.

...And the scary thing is that this in and of itself rarely feels bad. In the case of an Outburst (which is essentially Baby NRG Mode), being able to unleash your emotions as intensely and violently exactly as they feel, no matter what they are, exactly as the Element within you wants to...feels great! It’s cathartic. It’s what thee Master wants too, even if its deep, deep down. t’s why it’s so hard to stop it once you get stuck in it; it’s why it’s usually better to find a way to unleash it all rather than bottling it up.

Everyone reaches a point where they just want to rage and scream and throw things and cackle insanely and wail to cry...but being an Elemental Master is hard when you start to feel like that, because the Element isn’t aware that you can’t just do those things...and the Master is more easily enticed to give in and act that way because of it, especially when they’re at a point of mental/emotional weakness. (Fire was meant to burn, and it wants to burn, so why shouldn’t it burn...would be the logic of Fire if it could think, for example)

...and in the case of NRG Mode, feeling so in tune with yourself and your Element is part of what makes it hard to pull all your awareness out of it afterwards, especially if you were to do it often, or in a great moment of desperation. Just like an Outburst, it’s all too easy to submit oneself to the Element because it feels right. But, instead of the Element temporarily leeching off of a Master like in an Outburst, this would be more like the Master surrendering themselves to the Element (or, in the case of someone actually mastering NRG, the Element surrenders to the Master instead). Specifics would also differ by Element as well. (...Nya be like SUBMERGE ME—)

And, finally, in the case of using powers before full True Potential (*cough* Lloyd *cough* Jesse), while one can feel the application of the element’s aspects just like any other Master, it’s not as natural yet. As without True Potential/full understanding of oneself, it can feel more like trying to use the powers of a stranger, rather than that of a friend you’ve known your whole life. (...due to Lloyd struggling with an identity crisis and Jesse being...Jesse, always struggling to feel comfortable in his owns skin.

(...and both of them not being able to love themselves yet but that’s totally neither here nor there ahha ha h a h a )

But in all cases of Masters using their Element (or...Element using Master...), a sense of completeness is achieved, regardless of method or element.

Heyyyy so remember when I drew a thing where Orpheus and Eurydice were creechurs? Well after one whole year I made a NYTW sequel! And yes they live w/ the bway orphydice that’s basically my brand now

(Eurydice is a harpy [no specific bird bc i’m indecisive] and Orpheus is a werewolf)

(Also, there are a couple of stellar easter eggs on Wolfpheus’s fur ;))

how do you choose your palettes! something about your use of colours is so pleasing to the eye...

Thanks for you kind words! I also try to give a really good answer, but the tldr would be that I often just browse on Lospec and click the random palette button a few times, haha. When I do this I always try to figure out what kind of challenge is behind a palette (for example a high color contrast, or a very soft contrast, not many colors, or a lot of colors in the same family) before I start. It already gives you an idea what's the mood your motive will reflect or what techniques you will need to bring to the table (Clustering, AA, dithering...). It's a super good practice and honestly, not coming up with your own palette can save you a lot of time. I sometimes make my own palettes, but very rarely if I need to be done in a short time frame.

I tink I initially stumbled over both in Aseprite, but the Colorpalette I use the most for years now (and the one that I use for my City Tilesets) is a combinaton of Eroge Copper and Copper Tech, which looks like this:

What I love about this selection of colors is, that it has a lot of muted ones and just some that are very full and bangers, like the red and the deep blue and the green! Very nice for highlights! A lot of allrounder palettes have often much more colors, which makes it often hard to choose or basically only have vibrant colors, which is fresh and awesome but often makes everything a very wild colorful mix. Just makes for a very good base to have a bunch of soft brown and yellowish tones that melt together~ My last work with the cafe scenario also has a cool combination of blues and yellows, that are like the primary tone of the scene and then some details in the very intense red (for the open sign and the dogs food). Quantity contrasts (besides complementary contrasts) are so good! The only thing that kinda goes off the rails is the green of the street lantern, but otherwise the street would be very empty, haha.

A new tool I'm occasionally using is this Color Contrast Tool for when I try to find the right contrast for special colors.

Sorry, I'm rambling a lot! I have to admit a lot of my decisions are gut feelings, but basically search for a palette that goes in a very specific or interesting direction and provides a clear challenge, then while working figure out what are the strong suits of what you are doing (can be color contrast or light dark ect), figure out what underlying technique is the most fitting and then dive full in!

The Aeon Sophia, Emanation of Wisdom. Figurer-Out of Problems. Want to draft an experimental universe but can't reconcile Your two starting principles? Call in Sophia! She'll hem and haw and think of a secret, third thing that somehow manages to combine all three concepts into a neat little triad.

"I want to make two and two equal five. Oh, and the sky should be pale lavender." Okay. I'll give You just two primary colors, plus a nonphotonic source of Light, and all You have to do is tinker with the saturation settings until You get the right shade of purple. That was something I did when I wasn't even fully Manifested and I just stuck it in My closet because it got boring fast.

She adds an aftermarket random number generator to her time-space slippage matrix and sets it with a basic Fibonacci sequence and now suddenly She's winning awards for her elegant use of strategic logic exclusion and asymmetrical causality like She's making an experimental French film or something.

And then when I present My brand-new color spectrum that's conceptually mapped to the Twelve Steps of the Anima Mundi Development Process, which I think is actually a really useful, stable, and most importantly self-replicating design tool?

They fucking automate My position out of Existence.

"Looks like You helped Us figure out how to figure everything out, Sophia! Haha! Thanks for the help, You're no longer needed, go take a nice vacation Somewhere that Doesn't Exist. Bye."

So of course I hoofed it and took My design tools with Me.

Because I flirted with a very lovely Daughter of Eve so awkwardly that she decided to just lock me inside while she went on a spontaneous date with someone who is specifically not Me to get the taste of the interaction out of her mouth.

Anyway, the Church decided to excise Me from the Gospels just like I got fired Up There. Council of Nicea and everything. You know how it is. Because God forbid a woman do anything, right?

I don't really want to scare you. I might still be s little bitter from getting let go the way I did, but I don't want to pass that onto other folks.

I honestly have no idea why I would scare anybody.
