Saw that Nie Huaisang post. How he needs "someone with considerable weight and status in words and deeds" to reveal NMJ case, and that person is LWJ (he threw the arm in Gusulan junior nighthunt guarded by LWJ, not YMJ or even JinLing's who must also be guarded by JC).
Then, thinking that all along, NHS didn't even consider "that reliable person" To be JC is just... Hilarity at its finest. Especially when people keep reminiscing the Gusulan trio at their youth, and it's even funnier when we consider the fact that NHS and JC supposedly spent 1 year together compared to WWX's 3 months, or to LWJ whom he has never been close with at all.
To add more salt, NHS still didn't chose him, even when considering that a Sect Leader of one great sect "should have" more weight and privilege, than just a famous senior cultivator Hanguang-Jun. Or considering that JGY has Xue Yang etc, shouldn't the infamous sandu sengshou who has been upholding justice and arresting villainous demonic cultivator, be called to the scene? Rather than LWJ, the supporter of demonic cultivation who let his disciples using WWX's inventions, and even taught them WWX's quotes about dividing the class of evil spirits.
Wanna guess why NHS didn't even give him a role? LMAO
Well I'm sure that part of picking Lan Wangji over Jiang Cheng had to do with their respective earned reputation, he needs someone who people are going to listen to, and as we see even when he's correct about Mo Xuanyu being Wei Wuxian, no one actually believes him. He's completely squandered his reputation in those thirteen years that Wei Wuxian was dead and he has no one to blame but himself.
I really don't think the lectures were supposed to be a year long? I've never seen anything in the book that indicated that, though it is a common interpretation. But we do see very clearly during the lectures that the trio is really Wei Wuxian being super cool and fun and charismatic and everyone else putting up with Jiang Cheng so they can hang out with Wei Wuxian.
But yeah, a lot of JC stans arguments fall apart when you look at the things he isn't involved in and doesn't stand against. And it isn't things like him being shut out because 3Zun are best friends, it's that he makes it very clear that he's just not useful for these sorts of things. He doesn't mete out justice, he doesn't keep his word to people, he's got a bitter, rude way of talking to people and he doesn't go out of his way to even talk to people most of the time we see him. You can't just stand there and expect others to do all the work and like you for it. It has to be some level of give and he just doesn't.
NHS may have not been friends with JC, nor more than fair weather friends with WWX, but he does know who honors their arrangements and who doesn't and that's as much as he needs for deciding on who's more likely to help him out.

Yet Another Untamed Time Travel Fixit That I'm Not Going To Write
pairings: wangxian, xuanli, and mingcheng
Transmigration time-travel (old mind/young body) that brings back not only the usual suspects (WWX, LWJ, JC, NHS,) but several characters from the parent generation as well - Because I want Papa Nie to live.
So, maybe about a week before Papa Nie meets with Wen Ruohan, Papa Nie, JFM, YZN, Madame Jin, and LQR wake with knowledge of what is to come. They each react differently, of course. Papa Nie, seeing the trap, does not die. JFM and YZN join forces to defend the pier (though they still disagree on how, they each set out to shore up what they believe needs to be shored up), Madame Jin begins to slowly amass a power base to ultimately overthrow her husband, and LQR begins to quietly shore up the Cloud Recesses's fireproofing spells and copy and store the Lan Library elsewhere, just in case. Each of them are acting as if they are the only ones returned.
But off course they aren't. Because also returned at that time are: The Yungmeng Trio, the Twin Jades, Jin Zixuan and Mianmian, and the Nie Brothers. They are also under the impression that they are alone - at least, that their particular set is alone (the yungmeng trio's reunion is *epic* and it's a *very good thing* that both of their parents were out on their various missions.) Each set reacts differently.
The Yungmeng Trio decide that they will do what they can to prepare, but also, to enjoy their time together, whatever their parents say. They then end up avoiding their parents, and it takes a while for them to begin to suspect that they remember, as the difference in their behavior could be a result of...
The Nies. Papa Nie's survival means NMJ is expected to act as heir, not sect leader, and it allows for him and NHS to reconnect and plan - he's surprisingly sneaky when he doesn't have the sword spirit breathing down his neck. They come clean after Papa Nie calls them on their behavior.
The Lans also don't last very long before telling LQR - they help, obviously, but it was the easiest way for LWJ to explain why he needed to go to Lotus Pier, *yesterday*
Jin Zixuan doesn't suspect his mother. Mianmian knew immediately. She hasn't told JZN because honestly - even he can't be that unobservant. Right?
Perhaps the GusuLan lectures happen first, and the Sunshot Generation gets to meet up there (NMJ included, as he's escorting NHS this time. Meng Yao never turned up, so NHS suspects that he's also back). Wangxian are reunited, Xuanli's engagement is never broken (and Yanli is determined to get her son back asap), and when JC goes to visit with NHS, he ends up spending more time with NMJ, who he's already had a teenaged crush on. He's no less distracting without the weight of responsibility and grief. Theirs is a new romance, and a bit whirlwind.
They begin to plan as well, having done this battle once.
Meanwhile, there is a conference held, and the parent generation gather to discuss events. The time travelers find each other and begin to plan.
Anyway, this entire setup is to get us to the next scene: At the first war meeting, the parents are debating course of action (of course, only LQR knows how it actually played out, and he's understandably hesitant to rely on Meng Yao (who is still missing) and Wei Wuxian's Ghost Path. They are arguing in circles, not getting anywhere, and the sunshot generation looses their temper (bets on if it's JC or NMJ) and it all comes out, who they are, what they remember, etc.
**an alternate moment is based around the younger group's pairings. Xuanli are constantly chaperoned, and everyone is paying attention to them and not to Wangxian, who are fucking *constantly* in a rush of teenaged hormones and a desire to rewrite their more painful history. They're also not paying attention to Mingcheng, until they decide to spar. Their sparring gains the attention of a crowd, as they are sparring at Sunshot level proficency. (I was thinking of a wonderful moment where YZN, JFM, and Papa Nie are talking, and a disciple rushes by - they stop him and ask what's going on. He says NMJ and JC (either) have been sparring for *hours* and there's still no clear winner (or) will be sparring publicly. The three rush to the training ground to see them absolutely destroy the place with the ferocity of their spar, and it ends with JC gaining the upper edge by a hair - NMJ is understandbly dickstracted by how JC fights. To claim his victory (as he has done before) JC kisses him - and that's when hell breaks loose, because he hadn't yet noticed the crowd.
From there, it always spirals out in a bunch of different ways, which is why I'm not writing it - but feel free to use all or any of this, if you want!

@baoshan-sanren ok so i was thinking about this all day since your meta ask and this is entirely your doing. please take responsibility.
cangse sanren, jiang fengmian, wei changze: the first junior trio to sweep into cloud recesses and give lqr such a gigantic headache that the mere sight of wei wuxian decades later makes him nearly qi deviate from the memory.
wei changze and jiang fengmian have essentially grown up together. they’re best friends and sworn brothers. there’s no bad blood here because, well, jiang fengmian has always been the next sect leader, he knows his own skills and can’t be bothered to brood about other people, and wei changze doesn’t care about politics. he’s happy to help the sect in whatever way it needs. he does his job well, doesn’t complain much (unless he’s griping at jfm to stop leaving all your fucking shit on the floor a-mian), and is happy to go on night hunts alongside jfm. he’s an average cultivator, more skilled at thrumming music than sword wielding, but he’s clever, fast, and above all, kind. he would never let anything happen to jfm. there’s some talk around him from too-nosy gossipers and a few uppity elders across the clans, but nobody really pays the brothers any mind. they’re kids after all.
they meet cangse sanren on a night hunt. her name already begets her reputation—a rogue cultivator, disciple to the famed immortal baoshan sanren. she’s beautiful, wickedly skilled, and curses so much that even the most vulgar of men and women on the field blush. they meet her while trying to take down a herd of soul-stealing demon beasts, and her sword stops a clawed paw from crushing jiang fengmian’s larynx. she takes one look at them afterward when they’re sweaty, soaked with acrid demon blood, and trying to catch their breaths, and promptly adopts them both as her own. she calls them fengfeng and a-ze, and anyone who has a problem with her boys will answer to cangse sanren’s fists.
by the time the trio make their way to gusu for lectures, their outrageous exploits are a well-known table story amongst all the other juniors of their generation. the trio comprised of the jiang heir, the jiang servant, and their rogue cultivator queen are said to have stolen all 40 hens from an affluent farmer once and redistributed them to smaller villages nearby that he had been forcing to pay an exorbitant fee for eggs. each stolen hen wore a curious talisman necklace that deterred the farmer from taking it back (only once did the man try to and he almost lost both eyes and a sensitive body part). they are extremely well-loved by all the civilians they have helped along the way—their night hunt skills are admired by many, and the reputation bodes well for yunmengjiang sect, so the elders leave jfm alone for hanging around with a rogue cultivator.
plus wei changze can apparently drink anyone under the table, and on the first night at cloud recesses, the trio gets half the junior class wasted (cangse tells wei changze drunkenly that he’s perfect to his immense embarrassment but she promptly forgets this the next day). with the trio at the center, cloud recesses become a constant whisper of jokes and giggles and midnight fishing escapades. every night lqr considers breaking the no alcohol in cloud recesses rule.
all in all cangse finds cloud recesses utterly stifling. she prefers to play in the cold streams and lounge on the mountains than sit in the hall listening to lqr drone on about gusulan’s most boring collection of rules. more often than not she gets herself thrown out by lqr for arguing against every tenet he lectures to be the epitome of righteous cultivation. no punishment phases her. she even manages to make handstands look obnoxiously like a rebellion. she is wild, carefree, unapologetically fierce, and jiang fengmian loves her. wei changze of course coos at him relentlessly about this.
one evening, the junior class are led out to night hunt with lqr, whose dictatorial and by-the-book handling of their offensive and defensive groups make cangse shake with frustration. her vocal complaining gets her relegated to a holding group, so she isn’t there when jiang fengmian and wei changze get attacked. it’s the screaming that runs cangse’s blood cold. when she arrives, the beasts are already subdued but jiang fengmian is barely conscious on the ground, bleeding from his entire right shoulder, and holding onto wei changze, who is too still and deathly pale, with a gaping wound in his chest. he had put himself in front of jiang fengmian.
cangse is livid, and it’s only the junior disciples who hold her back that stops her from lunging at lan qiren in the middle of the forest. she screams that his hypocrisy, ignorance, and three thousand bullshit gusulan rules will be the death of the cultivation world. she gets 250 beatings for her insolence. she takes them all with stony unflinching eyes that never move from lan qiren’s glare. afterward, she forgoes treatment and holds vigil at wei changze’s bedside for five days and four nights until he wakes up. she plays nursemaid, and he laughs at her terrible congee but finishes every bowl anyway. they smile at one another, and jiang fengmian knows four things.
first, he’s lost her.
second, he’s loved her since the moment he saw her, with her messy ponytail swept up by the wind and glowing with the electric blue of her carefree spirit.
third, her home is in the sky.
jiang fengmian tells wei changze the evening before lectures come to a close to leave with cangse. wei changze laughs, says a-mian having you been drinking without me, then sobers immediately when he realizes jfm is serious. jfm adds this moment to the handful of times wei changze has called him ge, manages to sit through the slight sheen of betrayal in wei changze’s grey eyes, pretends he doesn’t have red crescents in his clenched palms, and remains firm until wei changze agrees.
(fourth, jiang fengmian never wants to see wei changze bleeding because of him again.)
the gusulan lectures end anti-climatically but everyone’s had enough excitement in that last night hunt to not care. lan qiren is conspicuously absent from the formal farewells. (word of lan qiren’s missing goatee filters through the cultivation world in the ensuing weeks). jiang fengmian says goodbye to cangse sanren and wei changze when they part ways on a mountain outside of gusu.
he returns to yunmengjiang with half a heart and half a soul. he settles into his jiang heir duties, ignores the telltale absence at his side, and eventually ascends to the head in his father’s retirement. he agrees to an arranged marriage with meishan yu sect without much complaint. every few months, jiang fengmian meets cangse and changze in yiling. there’s an unmistakable distance between them now, but cangse is still a bright force to be reckoned with, and wei changze still calls him a-mian, and gets drunk with him the night before his wedding.
he meets their son during one visit. wei wuxian is an adorable combination of both of them—warm and bright with laughter, eyes full of mischief and kindness. he calls jfm shushu and bounces with happiness when jfm spoils him with gifts.
their meetings grow less frequent through the years as jiang fengmian is caught up in sect leader duties, and his best friends roam the world, helping the weak and the poor, free from the monotonous drivel of discussion conferences and politics. he is in yiling one evening–it’s been years, and their letters have stopped, he is nostalgic of old times, wonders where their journey has taken them, until he hears a commotion further down the market, an angry stall keeper and a shivering boy. jiang fengmian see wei wuxian cowering on the streets, in bloodied rags of clothes, pale and too thin, and his heart shatters.
jiang fengmian doesn’t have time to grieve. at lotus pier, his best friends’ child looks up at him with wide apologetic grey eyes that are too painfully familiar while his own spitfire son screams through closed doors. (years ago, when wei changze had woken up, he had held jfm’s shaking hand and said, a-mian, in lotus pier, you never have to apologize for things that are not your fault.)
the gossipers say jiang fengmian loved cangse sanren so much that he is raising her son. he favors him even above his own son, they whisper, that perhaps the rogue cultivator’s brat even is his own.
it’s true that he see cangse in the messy tangles of wei wuxian’s ponytail, in his sharp focus when he wields his blade like a third limb, in his bright unrestrained laughter, in his carefree spirit. but those grey eyes belong to jfm’s brother. he watches wwx put himself in front of jc when his son’s temper gets him in trouble with the taller and bigger kids in the streets, and all jiang fengmian remembers is the man who refused to leave his side, who pushed jfm out of the way and bled.
jiang fengmian lives as the jagged piece of a soul missing two parts, he watches wwx grow with each day into the perfect embodiment of his best friends, and thinks he understands what it means to attempt the impossible.

MDZS AU Headcanon dump: Stay (2)
(Part 1 here)
Living with the Wens is interesting to say the least. There’s always something that needs to be done.Although most are suspicious on why the righteous Hanguang Jun would stay with them, helping their daily chores ( “ Lan gongzi! Its okay!””...” ), over time as they did with WWX, they became close ( “Lan Gongzi, you can cook really well! Who taught you?” “Watched.” “Ah?! Lan Gongzi really is a man of many talents!” )
Apart from provisions, LWJ brought some money that allowed Wen Qing to head down to Yiling to open a small clinic of sorts where fourth uncle and other Wens rotate to help out. With that,Allowing them to live better. Wen Ning stays on the Burial Mounds to help with the heavy labour and retrieving herbs.
The one who is still reeling in from shock is our Yiling Laozu. Because it is practically bagging up all he knew about LWJ and throwing out of the window. LWJ keeps WWX company in his den as he worked on the little projects. Sometimes he observes the man in usual silence, other times he reads and enquires on what he’s doing.
( “Hah, Lan Zhan, I know you don’t like these stuff. Not proper of what GusuLan believes in.You don’t need to put an act out of courtesy. You are doing plenty already helping the Wen family.” ”No.” ”Hah?”Not an act.””...?” ”Its not conventional. But your work, its genuine in purpose.””...*cues internal screaming in WWX’s head*...”)
The one that benefits the most is a-Yuan.Who continues to cling to LWJ’s leg, but slowly got weaned of the habit.LWJ teaches a-Yuan, even going as far as allowing him to play on his Qin. WWX continues to tease a-Yuan, telling him he might as well really call LWJ dad at this rate. But WWX’s eyes softens every time he sits beside them.He may not admit it but he’s thankful the child is having a semblance of normalcy in this hellhole. And on occasions where the trio go down the mountain, for the occasional errands or a breather, WWX feels the happiest. His gaze would often land on LWJ and he tries to shake of the weird feelings in him.
(”Lan Zhan.” “Mn.” “What is a-Yuan reading?I-Is that Lan Sect rules?!Why do you even have that here?!” “He was curious. Also good for peace of mind, developing character.” “...He, doesn’t need to read while doing headstands though...?””Builds body.””............” )
However, there are occasions where LWJ, who is still learning about WWX’s mannerisms where he prods the wrong buttons on each other. The arguments don’t really last but when they do usually someone will be there to mediate.Or one of them will cave and continue awkwardly. It was one of these arguments that led to the reveal with WWX screaming, the negative energy in him fluctuating and out of control, that he can’t do much without a Golden Core can he? And LWJ just freezes as the other man breaks down, disorientated and had to be knocked out by Wen Qing.
Wen Qing is reluctant to say anything ( doctor’s oath ) so it was Wen Ning who actually tells LWJ everything. From WWX giving up his core, doing demonic cultivation and his reason for helping the Wens. LWJ who is still young ( twentyish ) realises not everything is right or wrong.Fate sometimes lead people on different roads.
But the only path LWJ wants to walk, is beside the man whose kindness drove him to the corner, alone. The boy who was always lively and a social butterfly, now can only be in the darkness away from others.
When WWX wakes up, the first person he sees isn’t the usual Wens or the siblings but LWJ, humming a familiar lullaby. He realises he is in LWJ’s lap and awkwardly tries to get up but LWJ stops him.He needs to rest. They actually talk now.
(”Isn’t this stupid?I’m practically a invalid now trying to be a sad imitation of a bad guy.””...You aren’t””You don’t need to pity me Lan Zhan.I told you before, I chose this path without regrets.this is what I owed the Jiangs anyway. And this is what I owed the Wens. All my life, the only thing I can proudly say, even with regrets, I am able to make my own choices, and I’ll shoulder the responsibility on my own.””No.””.....?””Not alone. Not invalid. Will stay with you.””Ah? Don’t you hate me Lan Zhan? Why will you even do that?””...Never hated.””...!?”)
Its dark in the cave, but WWX swears he can see LWJ’s ears are tipped a fierce bright red. ( Part 3 here )
