‘In November 2022, I went to Australia to conduct my PhD field research. One night, I took a walk outside my accommodation near the Daintree rainforest in rural Queensland. I found the outer wall of the house completely covered in green tree frogs. Their colour was so vibrant it appeared as if they were glowing in the dark. When I look at the photo now, it reminds me of the remarkable biodiversity I encountered across Australia and the urgent need to protect it.’
hello tumblr I’m a frog scientist and I heard you like frogs here so I’m here to share frog content if that’s okay
my first contribution is to inform you all that Carl Linnaeus hated frogs. Like, really hated them:
"These foul and loathsome animals are abhorrent because of their cold body, pale color, cartilaginous skeleton, filthy skin, fierce aspect, calculating eye, offensive smell, harsh voice, squalid habitation, and terrible venom; and so their Creator has not exerted his powers to make more of them." - Carl Linnaeus, Systema Naturae 1758 (Translated from Latin)
idk what went down between Linnaeus and a frog but dude was traumatised
also here is a photo of one of my science frogs, his name is Granny
Do you have any facts specifically about anarchist frogs?
All frogs are anarchist cs I said so
This is a species of frog that lives in mangrove forests! They lay clusters of eggs on leaves, and when they hatch they jump out of their eggs and land in the water below!
The tadpoles are literally doing diving parkour as soon as they’re born
There are lots of insects that try and eat these eggs, so their fathers have to sit by the eggs and kick the insects away. They’re semitranslucent, partially for camouflage and partially so that predators can’t see them when they try and go for the eggs.
