Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are still currently struggling through as we speak, the Jersey City council backed my mayor Steven Fulop decided for the best initiative is to input a full hold on the plastic bag ban. Jersey City was hit hard by the coronavirus from the months of March through June. To lessen the toll on the hard hit business owners and the citizens of the city this was the best option for the city to quickly think of. Municipalities across the state have begun instituting similar bans on single-use plastic bags to reduce pollution and litter, protect marine environments, and slash greenhouse gas emissions.
As a Jersey City resident who knows friends who are owners and employees of city establishments such as delis and convenience stores. This was a great strain off of my friend’s backs who were given a grace period for which they worried about their businesses’ ability to adapt to the updated rules.
