finally ordered myself an external dvd/cd drive for my laptop yeah baby

#ive been wanting to have every official touhou ost synced to my phone because im ill. got up to gouyoku ibun and was like #i already have the soundtrack cd for this one!!! i could just rip it myself!!!!#and that was the push i needed to actually get one LOL #bri talks #also i bought the box set of gravity falls bc it meant a lot to me and i was really upset to hear it was going out of print...#so i can rip that too LOL keep your media on personal storage adn such<3

#i have no practical use for this at the moment. i dont have a very big dvd collection #like.. what do i have.#annihilation pacrim jurassic park the thing httyd1+2 and red vs blue season 1-13. thats mostly it as far as my personal collection goes #but either way. i like that i have that knowledge now #it was. Very easy #unfortunately cuz factory-made dvds are bigger than writeable dvds u gotta squish em down a bit #but Whatebber.#i honestly dont rly notice the quality dip #at least w the first one i did here #OH AND the invader zim box set.#i also have a smattering of blurays that dont have included dvd versions #like the gravity falls set #and my jurassic parks beyond the original

5 Years…IT'S BEEN 5 YEARS!! On July 24th, 2018, Gravity Falls Lost Legends was released alongside the Complete Series box set. In one day, we got 4 new stories for the show and the chance to own the whole show in physical form, with hours of new behind the scenes material and commentaries to enjoy. It was arguably the single best day to be a Gravity Falls fan since Cipher Hunt and Journal 3 came out.

I still remember that time so well. I was still in high school then and the joy of knowing these two pieces of GF content were coming kept me motivated during some of the hardest times I faced that year. The summer of 2018 was insane, both for GF and me personally. It's a time I so wish I could relive. I have many fond memories (bitter too but fond always triumph over the bad).

I miss the passion and joy in the GF fandom then. It still is not dead or downhill in any way IMO, but the hype that was there in 2018 just isn't anymore. Which is fair as so many fans have moved on to other shows and passions. Being a GF fan in 2023 is very different to how it was in 2018, and in turn, how it was in 2016 and when the show was airing.

I'll never forget it though. I wasn't here to see GF air, but I was there to see these two twin merchandises come out together and let us return to Gravity Falls, even if just for a moment. We may never get that same chance again.

I had plans to make a retrospective video on both of them but was busy with some bigger things to do so. But I think what I have coming up will substitute and I do wanna make those videos one day as my opinions on both have changed a lot from when I excitedly opened them up and ran through all they had to offer, 5 years ago.

The summer of 2018 was now half a decade ago…but the memories made during it through Lost Legends and the box set, will stay with me till the end.

To 5 years of them both!

Also funny story, the night of the release, I recoreded the countdown on the wiki page hitting 0 and the day after I had a summer school exam to take so I should have been studying but made this video instead. I passed the exam though so, no worries!

Shows you should save physically immediately

Over the Garden Wall -- It's being pulled from HBO Max on August 31 and knowing HBO, there's a chance it'll be pulled sooner. *I have now made a Google Drive of all the episodes of OTGW. Please, please, please, PLEASE, save these on a physical device.

The Owl House -- Disney has tried to bury this show many times (giving it a weird release schedule, cutting the budget, etc) and has even cancelled the show. Also, Disney+ is going to nuke their catalogue soon and I doubt TOH will survive*I have now also saved all the episodes of TOH. Click here for the posts with all of the episodes

Amphibia -- I know less about the behind the scenes BS than TOH but Amphibia was screwed over by Disney mainly by poor promotion. Also since one of the protagonist is openly bisexual*, like TOH, I really can't imagine this would survive.*Amphibia has also been saved. Go here for the post with all the episodes.

Steven Universe -- Cartoon Network cancelled Steven Universe and gave it a weird release schedule, it has also just been pulled from HBO Max.

Gravity Falls -- Once again, Disney+ is going to nuke their catalogue at some point in the future and between Wendy being canonically bi, Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland being in a relationship, and Alex Hirsch (being the amazing man that he is) constantly calling Disney out on their BS, I imagine that Disney would be more than willing to nuke Gravity Falls. *I’ve also saved Gravity Falls now go to the main post here to see all the episodes.

and most importantly

Every single show, book, game, fanfiction, movie, etc you've ever loved

We now know that at any moment's notice, streaming services can and will just nuke their catalogue without hesitation. If it's digital, it can be removed and there's a likely chance you'll never see it again.

So, please take some time to save anything you love on an external device. It could be a box set (it can be official or fan-made one), a USB, or anything.

If you have a physical copy of something, it's yours forever and no one can take that away from you.

*Edit because I’ve seen some confusion about this. Read this again, it’s “one of the protagonists” not “the protagonist.” Sasha is the one who’s bi, Anne’s sexuality hasn’t been confirmed.

Also in addition to this, people have reblogged this to say Steven Universe is still on HBO. Since I don’t have HBO, I’ve been going off of what people have been saying and I’ve seen it mentioned that HBO was taking off SU. You should still save it though.
