Recently, I saw people talking about Misa’s character again & I love sharing my opinion on fictional women so here we go.
Misa was a victim and she didn’t deserve all the terrible things that happened to her - let me elaborate on my thesis.
„She extorted her relationship with Light. She knew he never cared for her, yet she agreed to stay with him“.
She never even loved Light in a first place. She adored Kira because he „judged“ her parents‘ murderer… She was just 19 yo when she lost her family due to homicide. You can’t expect someone who experienced such gruesome stuff to act reasonably. Sympathy for savior quickly became an obsession bc she had nobody else she could hold on to.
„Misa‘s annoying and selfish“
You believe it or not, Death Note is narrated from Light‘s perspective. The viewer observe him from the beginning - we know his motives, we saw him changing drastically throughout the series. That’s why it’s easier to sympathize with Kira. As viewers we see Misa from Light‘s perspective, that’s why she appears annoying and naïve. Producers never gave us her full backstory (anime); her emotions and motivation - it was all so shallow and one-dimensional. I believe it’s because we see the story from Light’s pov and he saw Misa as stupid and mostly useless.
I feel like ppl forget that Light is a great manipulator. He manipulated his father (experienced police officer) into believing that he‘s innocent. It was super easy for him to manipulate a traumatized, young woman.
