ok but stand tall is such a meaningful song and each lyric literally deserves to be analyzed because oh my god.
assuming that the band wrote the song together with julie, that means that they wrote it in present time. or at least the three guys wrote it before they met julie and julie helped with it because there’s no way julie wasn’t involved in it.
Don’t blink, cause I don’t wanna miss it
Cause everything is rushing in fast
Keep going on, never look back
this is most likely about julie. her life was slow for about a year or so after the death of her mother. she didn’t play music for an entire YEAR. she didn’t do anything. she wasn’t feeling well obviously. but then she met luke, alex, and reggie and all of a sudden in just a few weeks, she wrote songs with them, performed like 6 shows, and all of a sudden now they’re about to perform where the boys dreamed of playing. ALL IN JUST A FEW WEEKS.
compared to her life before the phantoms came in, it’s crazy. her life suddenly became crazily fast paced with everything that they were doing. and they definitely helped julie with getting back into music.
I gotta keep on dreaming
‘Cause I gotta catch that feeling
Whatever happens, even if I’m the last one standing
I’ma stand tall, I’ma stand tall
the lyric “even if i’m the last one standing” can mean two things. either it’s about how julie is the last one standing because her mom is no longer here with her. but she’s still going to pursue music, because that’s what her mom wanted.
it could also mean that even without the phantoms, she can still perform and sing music on her own. yes, they were a huge part in her life, but even the netflix description says that she learns to shine on her own. she doesn’t need the phantoms to shine on the stage. but they certainly help.
“catch(ing) that feeling” is very well her playing music. whatever feeling she gets when playing is what she’s trying to catch. she didn’t feel that feeling for an entire year and she wants to catch that feeling and feel it once again. so she keeps on dreaming.
Right now, I’m loving every minute
Hands down, can’t let myself forget it
she’s loving every minute of BEING WITH THE PHANTOMS. being with them. regaining her spark for music. starting to perform and sing again. starting to feel happy about music again.
And it’s one, two, three more times
That I’ll try for one more night
Light a fire in my eyes
these lyrics are SO SPECIAL especially in the context of the performance. during the clip we see luke flicker and try to be on the stage, but he’s clearly struggling. that’s where the “one, two, three more times” part comes in. but they’ll try for ONE MORE NIGHT to perform. because julie knew that this may be their last performance. one. more. night.
and when she’s watching luke trying to be there, alex and reggie look obviously worried, but julie looks hopeful in the clip. she KNOWS that luke can come back. a FIRE is in her eyes.
Like I’m glowing in the dark
I keep on going when it’s all falling apart
Yeah I know it with all my heart
glowing in the dark can very well refer to not only julie still trying to keep going through the grief of her mother, but also again, that feeling when she’s performing. she feels like she’s glowing. shining. shining BRIGHT. aka. bright the song. it can very well also be a reference to the song bright.
and yes, the second lyric can also be connected to the grief she experienced. she still kept going when it all fell apart (aka her mom).
she knows it with all her heart. the lyrics to the new songs she wrote. and the feeling. she knows it with all her heart because she KNOWS her mom would want her to keep going. she. knows.
ok that was kind of overdramatic but that’s basically why stand tall is a really important moment in the series and why it basically connects to everything that happened. AAAAA THIS SONG IS SO GOOD
