Can I just. If you like the movies of Sondheim musicals I am begging you to watch the stage production. I think the version of Into The Woods with Bernadette Peters is still on Youtube in its entirety and I'm 80% sure the Angela Lansbury Sweeney Todd is on Netflix.
The movies are ok but the full plays are some of the best dark comedy musicals I've ever seen and I love them

So I'm an RTD girlie who gave up on doctor who somewhere in the moffat era before chibnall even took over and so I've missed all of thirteen's tenure. I don't have it in me to watch all of her seasons at this moment in time but I LOVE Jodie and your gifs look so compelling.
Would you be able to recommend your top 5 episodes with 13 or something so I can rectify the error of my ways, at least a little bit?
Hmmmmmmm I would say that for a complete Thirteen novice you should watch:
The Woman Who Fell to Earth
It Takes You Away
Spyfall pts 1 & 2
The Haunting of Villa Diodati
And probably Fugitive of the Judoon and The Timeless Children just because those are very important series lore episodes that are important to watch even if you very much disagree with most of the choices that Chibnall made
Also probably The Power of the Doctor so you can watch Thirteen's full regeneration episode (and Jacob Anderson <3)

I just know that Missy wouldn’t be able to keep her hands off 13 because spy master barely could… she’d be all over her and toying with her. And 13 would be like >:T

Some various lighthearted life updates 🏃‍♀️
It's been a very busy last few months! in a good way mostly. We had a friend visiting us from overseas so we showed him around the city and took him to all our favourite places. We also met new people and were invited to a bunch of events so it's been very fun! We are all out of social battery tho so now we are slowing down a bit and getting back to work. Nicolas is on a short work trip to Berlin and I'm back to painting. We also started running! aaand we are also back to watching a bunch of shows and to me talking about it here to like five people 😌
Under the cut cause it's a lot as usual!
We finished watching S13 of Doctor Who! (we still have the specials to go but after that we are all caught up!) I haven't updated in ages so here are lot of opinions!
We really did not enjoy S11 😞 I was aware it wasn't very popular but we were hoping it was for all the wrong reasons, sadly we found many to be valid. Some of the episodes were baffling, Rosa? Kerblam?! the writing of the whole season in general felt like a rushed school assignment. The first part of Spyfall was a strong start for the next season but that ending in the second part was really not it. We did love Sacha Dhawan's Master tho!! and we really love Jodie too, 13th is adorable and reminded us of Ten at times! Jodie is such a fantastic actress that it makes the quality of the writing and everything else around her even more frustrating 😫 S12 was an improvement in general. In the last few episodes It felt like the writing team suddenly remembered the companions could have a personality and agency lmao. Highlights for us were Spyfall one, Fugitive of the Judoon and Haunting of villa Diodati, tho we did also enjoy most other episodes of the season despite their issues.
The timeless child plot reveal felt a bit underwhelming? The idea on itself has potential but it felt mishandled (and it had a bit of a Moffat flavour to it? and not in a good way). I think it was meant to add more depth to the Doctor's lore but in a way it ends up having the opposite effect. Then the flux was just a complete mess. It read like a Marvel sort of plot, very comic book like which is alright I suppose if that is something you enjoy but it felt out of place. But mostly it was just way too much, it got out of hand. Anyway we still have the specials to watch! and I think the Master is in them so we are looking forward to it 🥰
We also watched Broadchurch!! and we LOVED it. We ended up binging all three seasons. Chibnall's writing on this is surprisingly great and Jodie's acting is spectacular she really shines here. Olivia and David are always brilliant!! honestly everyone's acting was amazing. This series had us both tearing up every five scenes. The direction and the music are outstanding. I could watch Hardy and Miller solve crimes forever I really love their chemistry and dynamic. We went into it expecting the usual detective fiction but it ended up being a whole study on grief with such a focus on family and community and trauma and a ton of touching interconnected character arcs, just really really good!!
Then we also watched Taking over the Asylum!! MAN we were not expecting to have our hearts wrung out like laundry by this!! We thought it was a lighthearted show!! GOD we are still not over it, what the fuck!! It was so good we loved it!! but we were not prepared lmao what do you mean 'the end'?? we'll be thinking of this for months, I was expecting an extra scene after the credits or something. Excellent characters, refreshing depictions of mental illness and trauma and so crushingly realistic. Every character is so loveable I really wish this was longer 😭
And our quest to watch everything with David Tennant on it continues. We watched Decoy Bride on Valentines day too and it was terrible but such a hilarious fever dream kind of bad that it was fun, it has David on it and he never disappoints. I feel so lucky that Nicolas and I are both in love with him, get yourself a man who shares your celebrity crushes lmao it's so fun!! We feel like teens again chatting about him and drawing little hearts next to his pictures haha 🥰 We watched the BAFTAs just for him and speaking of the baftas!! I was not expecting that last drawing of his outfits to get that much attention oh my god 😭 thank you!! you are all insane and I appreciate it so much!! and thank you for all the support in general, about my art and photos and just everything. I feel very lucky and grateful 😭 anyway I'll end this before I get sappy, that is all for now! I hope this week is kind to you all, I'll be sharing some more art soon 😊

Extremely random question but I love to ask librarians this: what have u read recently that’s stuck out? Do u have any book recs for 2023?
And I, a librarian, love being asked this!! Here are my favorite books from this year:
Little Thieves by Margaret Owen - actually picked this one up because of an excellent rec post here on tumblr. It’s loosely based on The Goose Girl fairy tale so I pitch it as “it’s a beautiful day in fantasy Germany and you are a horrible goose girl.” The sequel also came out this year and is every bit as good.
When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb - This one was actually my pick for Best Book of My Year at work. It’s incredible. An angel and a demon who are study partners leave their shtetl to go find a local girl who immigrated to America and hasn’t been heard from since. It’s gorgeous.
Ask a Historian by Greg Jenner - I love Greg Jenner and his podcast You’re Dead to Me and I listened to the audiobook of this one, which was wonderful.
If We Were Villains by M. L. Rio - the very very rare internet darling that I felt lived up to the hype. Insufferable theatre students at conservatory do a murder. Lots of Shakespeare.
The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan - Not only did he write a new Percy book, but it had the audacity to be good???
A Lady’s Guide to Scandal by Sophie Irwin - One of the best romance novels I read this year. I haven’t swooned that hard over a heterosexual pairing in a traditionally published book since I don’t know how long.
A Rome of One’s Own by Emma Southon - a history of Rome in 21 women. I love Emma Southon—she’s funny and rigorous and so insightful. And she makes me care about the Romans, who I generally hate.
The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holton - I love the entire Dangerous Damsels series and this one was no exception. The balance of humor and deep emotion is my favorite thing about these books.
These are just the highlights of a long list—I also read a lot of children’s lit for work, lots more nonfiction, and things like scriptural commentary and saints’ biographies. Thank you for this question!

On Liking Women by Andrea Long Chu (and on the politics of desire)
Turning a Unicorn Into a Bat by Josh and Lolly Weed (on Mormonism, love, and whether a gay man and a straight woman can marry happily. cw for homophobia)
Laziness Does Not Exist by Devon Price (musings on motivation from a social psychologist and professor)
How Millennials Became the Burnout Generation by Anne Helen Peterson (how come everything happens so much?)
White Women Drive Me Crazy by Aisha Mirza (on the harm caused by white women. cw for racism)
Everything You Know About Obesity Is Wrong by Michael Hobbes (should be required reading for everyone at this point. cw for fatphobia and eating disorders)
Becoming Anne Frank by Dara Horn (on the cultural fascination with Anne Frank. cw for antisemitism)
The Ecstasy of Influence by Jonathan Lethem ([on/a] plagiarism)
On the Ethics of Boinking Animal People by Patricia Taxxon (video essay) (ostensibly what the title says, but actually a detailed musing on the essential properties of furry media and the freedom of dehumanization; changed my life a bit)

I CANT CONTAIN MYSELF RIGHT NOW!!! LET ME TELL YOU WHY:
There were two cons today, LCC Spring, attended by Mandip Gill and Sacha Dhawan, and Emerald City Comic Con, attended by David Tennant. And oh my god the content!!!
LCC
I AM GOING INSANE BECAUSE MANDIP WAS ASKED ABOUT THASMIN DURING HER TALK AND SHE SAID “She [Jodie] were really excited that she got to kiss me, but then it didn’t happen”.
Source:
Tumblr media
Mandip knows we call ourselves Thassies!
Source:
Tumblr media
Remember that photo where Yaz was inexplicably holding what seemed to be a carrot? Some absolute legend asked Mandip about it. I’m fucking CRYING because she hasn’t a clue what it is or why!
Source:
Tumblr media
When asked if he could dress as he wanted and do what he wanted as the Master, Sacha Dhawan said that he would dress as Yaz and fall in love with the Doctor!
Source:
Tumblr media
Emerald City
Aka David Tennant being a trans ally and all around good egg (pun intended).
He signed a Harry Potter auto with “trans rights” as well as his signature.
Source:
Tumblr media
During his talk, he made a speech in defence of trans rights.
Source:
instagram
TLDR it’s a great day to be a Doctor Who fan!!!

Michelle Gomez and Sacha Dhawan Panel
Please note this IS NOT word for word, but so you can get a general gist of the panel. Both Michelle and Sacha were soooooo hilarious.
Whovians of all ages got to ask both of them questions.
This post is just Michelle’s and Sachs’s part of the panel there is a seperate post for Michelle’s panel and Sacha’s panel will be up in the next couple days!
Shouting from the back…
Sacha: Oh so boring!
Michelle: security, security!
Sacha walk to the stage
Michelle : Sacha Dhawan everyone!
Sacha: I was standing up the back and I thought… this is so boring…
(in a bad Scottish accent) “oh me and Peter Capaldi”
Michelle: laughing hard (can’t understand what she’s saying)
Sacha sitting down hugging Michelle
Sacha: so how are you?
Michelle: oh you know between here to hellish
Sacha: I thought I would join you
Michelle: if you thought it was boring then you’re gonna think it’s really boring now. Ok 2 for the price of 1
Moderator: I feel like a 3rd wheel… next question
Questioner: Green wing and the book club were on when I was young, do you take responsibility for warping a generation of millennials?
Michelle: yes, yes I do. I’ve landed myself in shows that are a little different.
Questioner: Missy has her own Audio series what was it like having her as the main character?
Michelle: well obviously it’s great to not have to put up with other people, lol. It’s brilliant because it keeps me connected to a world that I was thrilled to be part of and it’s a laugh because I live in NY and they record in London, so I’m in a booth in NY by myself.
Moderator walks off stage… feels like a 3rd wheel
Sacha takes over from the Moderator
Sacha: Alright let’s ask some real questions now!
Michelle: laughing again can’t understand what she’s saying
Moderator from the question line on the floor: long time watcher first time asker (room is laughing hysterically at this point) in green wing in your office after everyone has left there was scenes of you or you character doing some amazing weird and wonderful… disturbing things, who came up with that concept that your character is doing these obscure boarder line illegal things?
Michelle: I think at that point I was still learning how to be a professional so I was still feral at that point and they would lock the camera off in my office and then let me fuck around.
Questioner: Hi Michelle…. First of all Sacha don’t come for my girl, bro,
Sacha: yes I love it
Questioner: I’m Māori bro I’ll see you in the parking lot
Sacha: I love it… god it’s turning me on
Questioner: Fuck that was…
Crowd laughing hysterically can’t hear
Questioner: What’s the best acting advice you’ve been given throughout your career?
Michelle: if you’re serious about it don’t ever give up, there’s so much rejection, and it took me so long to get where I am today. Surround yourself with like minded people. And go to the theatre I feel like the real education is on stage.
Questioner: What was it like bringing a comedic edge to such a scary character in the flight attendant?
I’m classically trained and I did an Epsom play not known for it comedic tendencies, and the review came out and said Michelle Gomez plays one of the funniest performances in the Master Builder by Epsom, and I was like WHAT? I was quite offended, I don’t know I’m being funny is my answer to your question. Miranda in flight attendant was not meant to be funny she was meant to be very scary, thank you. (Laughing)
Questioner: Sacha when I was in line for my photo I asked about the Rasputin dance and you said you were saving it, is now the time?
Sacha: is it the time? You know when I did the dance I thought it was written in the script… but it wasn’t and for some reason I thought it said ‘the master dances’ I realise now everyone who was there that day must have been thinking ‘what is he doing?’ I don’t think I’ll be able to bust those moves out again. I remember we had 5 minutes to shoot that scene and under pressure it’s amazing what shapes you throw, I remember not being able to walk the next day.
Question asker: I think that’s the best Master moment to date… both cheers and boos from the audience, and a lot of laughter.
Sacha in a deep voice: Come here my boy
Michelle in a little voice: mmmk? (About the comment not coming to Sacha)
Questioner: I’m just wondering if it’s true you and Sacha are going to do a spin off called the Masters? (Please note the answer was in jest!)
Michelle:Um… oh… deny deny deny… um maybe 🤷……….. You heard it here first… maybe.
Questioner: Sacha I was wondering how it felt when you replaced Jodie Whittaker?
Sacha: ahhhh…
Michelle: oh fuck…
Sacha: we’ll I knew about it
Michelle: oh he knew about it (The love/hate flirting they do is comedy gold, the chemistry is on point)
Sacha: I knew it was going to happen a couple months before and before I played the Master I always thought I’d love to play the Doctor, I’d love to be able to do it. But obviously being the Master I thought there’s no way I’d ever be the Doctor so it was amazing that the opportunity came up and I LOVED IT. But I did realise the Doctor has way to much pressure, the Master can come in mess things up then leave because I don’t have to worry about the mess but the Doctor then has to clean it up, so as much as it was nice doing it for a bit I was happy to give it back to Jodie.
Questioner: What are your next projects?
Michelle: We have a strike at the moment so nothing.
Sacha: I’ve got a show coming out in the UK called Wolf it’s a dark detective series with a a black comedy element to it it comes out in July I think
Michelle: and are you playing a Wolf?
Sacha (side eyeing Michelle): no, lol
Questioner: This is for both of you last time Missy interacted with a master it was the simm!master
Michelle: oh yeah 🙄
Questioner: They had an interesting dynamic my question is what do you think the dynamic between your Masters would be like?
Michelle: you’ll have to watch and see (again this was in jest… maybe letting us know to message RTD more to get on it! Lol)
Sacha: I think it’s going to be very sexual, the Master is a little bit in love with himself so
Michelle: oh my god… ok… oh yeah it would be dead sexy
Sacha: and slightly violent
Michelle: what is wrong with you…😏 ok honey 😎
Questioner: If your 2 Masters were on scene together what chaos do you think they would get up to that isn’t… that? (Again the answer is in jest)
Michelle: You’ll have to watch and see I don’t think you understand you’re getting an exclusive here. What would we get up to? Hmmm… you understand we’re actors we don’t really say the cruel stuff that’s written for us.
Sacha: what chaos would you like to see us get up to?
Questioner: I don’t know… kidnapping the Doctor doing crazy stuff…
Michelle: oh that’s what you mean, oh right yes, I see what you mean, so I’d stick him in a trunk and drive him to Paris and we’d have lunch and then we’d let the Doctor out and he’d have to get his own way home, and then we’d travel back in time and we’ll take you with us and we’ll go to the 1920s and we would be in Jazz club.
Questioner: what mundane superpower would you have?
Michelle: I hate emptying the dishwasher, I don’t mind loading it, but I don’t like rinsing that annoys me too so anything to do with the dish washer. Dishes are dumb.
Someone in the crowd; get Sacha to do it
Moderator: you know they don’t live together? Laughing
Sacha: after a night out when I’m a little drunk and I need to get home, in London getting home is a nightmare so if I could just click my fingers and be in bed
Michelle: whose bed?
Laughing so loud can’t hear what is said
Questioner: Which other masters have you meet in real life?
Sacha: I worked with Derek Jacobi, but I’ve not met anyone else, I did try following John Simm on instagram but he didn’t follow me back, that was a bit awkward
Moderator pointing at Michelle covertly trying to remind Sacha that he’s met her now
Sacha: oh yeah we’ve met (looking at Michelle)
Michelle: ummm… I did a season with John Simm, so you got 2 for the price of 1 there… I like to mess about a little bit between takes, and I thought this was very funny… John didn’t… I got someone from catering to get me a pear and I stuck it down my top, cos he had to go down and get a locket and so he pulled out the pear… because I have a lovely pear…
Questioner: that’s awesome
Michelle: I thought so.
Questioner: if you ever get a chance to meet Eric Roberts, he just came to Armageddon, I could have looked in his eyes all day long, I hope you get to meet him one day too.
Sacha: I just realised I did meet Eric Roberts actually (crowd laughs at his inability to remember the Masters he’s met)
Questioner: did could you look in his eyes all day
Sacha: no, but he’s very handsome and super lovely as well.
Moderator: did you know he had played the Master?
Sacha: I do now… (laughing) no I did, I did know (crowd is skeptical, Michelle looking off going lalalalala)
Questioner: With you Michelle we had our first female master and then with you Sacha our first non white Master, and then it feels like the Doctor is just copying you now that we had a woman Doctor and now a non white Doctor. How does it feel that the Doctor is just copying the Master now?
Sacha: I think not necessarily just with me as the Master or with Jodie, I think being part of Doctor who this time around it felt like the show creates some extreme worlds but it keeps an eye on what’s going on in the world generally and I think that’s, I’m really proud to be a part of it in that way. I’ve mentioned earlier I wanted to be part of the whoniverse maybe years earlier but actually being part of it this time round felt right and I kind of, even though I have some extreme storyline’s with Jodie about Gallifrey, I don’t know, I always thought about what was going on in the world and I think the show reflects that and I wanted to reflect that in my performance as well so I feel immensely proud about that.
Michelle: similarly for me it really felt like it was time to shake things up, why can’t the master be a woman? Be a mistress? And I felt like I got a lot of love from the transgender community and I get it, I understand it, like being an Uber nerd growing up and not feeling like I fit in, so I felt like I was paying homage to that in a big way. It felt like it was time, like it was current. Steven Moffatt always said it was the best person for the job at the time it didn’t matter (if it was a man or a woman)
*Coming soon… there will be a part 3 with Sacha… I just don’t have time to post now as I’m heading back home from this iconic trip, so Sachas panel will be a couple days away and Part 1 with just Michelle is already up.
Some random notes:
Let’s just say our little spy master isn’t afraid let his feminine self shine, lol. They have a really funny and flirty chemistry together.
They were sat next to each other at the autograph tables with a volunteer between each actor, Sacha and the volunteer swapped spots so Sacha and Michelle could sit next to each other where Michelle proceed to write on posit notes and throw them at him, and they were quiet funny together sitting there.

hi lore ^__^ i just picked up the dear prudence collection after seeing you talk about it in a tag and it interesting me, and i’m really enjoying it so far. i was curious if you have any other book reccs, or favorite books you have read this year? it can be any and unrelated to this one. thanks and hope you’re well!
HI ABIBI I LOVE U !!!!!!!!
THANK YOU FOR ASKING I HAVE LOTS OF BOOK RECS
for readers at home abi is referring to dear prudence by daniel lavery in which lavery goes on a lengthy aside about how "love languages" are bullshit. daniel lavery is hysterical and correct as always
some other books i've read and enjoyed in the last year or so (excluding older books like discworld and jeeves+wooster stories, both of which i have been tearing through and really enjoying; also excluding the super popular (gideon the ninth) (you should read gideon the ninth)):
OBVIOUSLY, WHEN THE ANGELS LEFT THE OLD COUNTRY BY SACHA LAMB. READ WHEN THE ANGELS LEFT THE OLD COUNTRY BY SACHA LAMB. see further lore yelling about this book here [literary ya fantasy]
our wives under the sea by julia armfield for a deeply sad lesbian eldritch horror take on submarine disasters. this book will ruin your day (honorific) [literary horror]
the singing hills cycle by nghi vo for a series of novellas you can read in any order! all about storytelling and what storytelling is and does and does to the teller and the listener. also has a super cool jianghu badass side character [fantasy]
y/n by esther yi for an absurdist story about how kpop fandom makes you insane and worse and grad school also makes you insane and worse and GOD FORBID you combine the two [absurdist literature]
witch king by martha wells for book 1 of what has GOT to be I KNOW IT'S A DUOLOGY i KNOW it is the sequel has just not been officially announced yet. but i think she said something at a con about how there's one in the works. THERE MUST BE. anyway really fun and interesting worldbuilding here [fantasy]
beyond ridiculous by kenneth elliot for a look into the world of DIY gay theater in NYC at the height of the aids crisis. REALLY artistically inspiring and also super fascinating just as a history of a scene and a friend group [nonfiction/theater history]
ok this one's both backlist and was very popular when it came out but probably most 25 year old tumblr users have not read it. well they should read the hare with amber eyes by edmund de waal for a deep DEEP dive into the complicated world of rich jewish art collectors + socialites in odesa, vienna, and paris in the 1800s through the early 1900s by tracing the object history of a collection of netsuke from the opening of japan through the changing landscape of central + western europe and then back to japan [nonfiction/art history]
currently i'm reading cancipin by priest which is a space opera danmei that seeks to answer the questions "could it ever be ethical to do genetic engineering" "how do you build a just society" "is it ever worth it to give up your freedom in exchange for safety and convenience" "how do you keep going after the destruction of your entire planet" "what if data star trek were a beautiful young man and part time robot arm who was best friends with the worst gay people in the entire world" [sci fi/romance]

Learning To Love Slowly
Jason Todd x Reader All Chapters AO3 --Long author's note at the end
27-Sherlock Holmes and Reading Habits
Everyone knows why vigilantes exist in Gotham because the city is amazingly fucked up in several different ways, but no one talks about what it’s like to live with those vigilantes. Most of the time, they do exactly what anyone would think. They come in and beat up the bad guys before fading into the shadows. Most people think about them all that much--Not now anyway.
At first, everyone was on the edge of their seat to know what Batman and his batfamily were doing and how they were doing it. Now, since it had been so many years, hardly anyone glanced at the newspaper and it wasn’t surprising anymore to see a vigilante hanging around on a random fire escape or rooftop. Then, if it was so common, why the hell were you freaking out when you saw the Red Hood in your living room?
You were walking in from a late shift when you saw him walking out of your living room, looking around like he was looking for something. It took you a full ten seconds to not only noticed him but also ask yourself what the hell you did for him to be there.
You didn’t scream, which surprised you, but, instead, asked, “Oh my God, who are you?” The moment the words slipped from you you tried to cover your tracks, to explain away as to yes, you knew who the Red Hood was. You could feel your heart quicken because the man was built like a Greek god and tall. It could have been the straps on his thick thighs or the way his arm muscles flexed, but you could feel your cheeks heat up.  “Wait-uh, no, I meant why are you here?”
“I’m looking for a lady named…” He held up a phone, reading the name. “Sacha. She lives here?”
“What the hell did she do?” You asked, hoping, greatly, that the only nice semi-crime-free apartment building you lived in wasn’t turning into a new criminal point. “Please don’t say she’s a new crime boss or something.”
Under the mask you could hear a snicker, “And if she was?”
“Then I hope you and I could go out to coffee sometime to talk about how to get her out of here.” Maybe it was the fact that you couldn’t see his face, or maybe just the need for sleep frying your brain, but you hadn’t meant to be flirty.
There was a pause that hit the air and you wondered if that was the thousandth pick-up line he had heard that week. Before you could apologize for basically hitting on this man while he was working probably for the umpteenth night in a row, a low rumble came from him. A laugh. You realized he was laughing and you joined in awkwardly.
It only lasted for a few seconds before he approached you, stepping closer, but far enough away that, if need be, he could easily defend himself. “I don’t drink much coffee.”
“With what you do every night? I’m shocked, Mr. Red Hood,” You jested. After a moment you added. “Well, do you like tea? There are some good tea places around here.”
“Sure, how am I gonna drink it, then?” He pointed to his mask. “Can’t really drink with this on and, lovely, this thing isn’t coming off. Especially not with Sacha around.”
You smiled. “You’ll have to come by more often to figure that out.”
“I’ll have to check my schedule,” He said, leaning closer as he pulled his wrist around to look at his watch. “Looks like I may have time during the week.”
“Good,” You leaned up a bit and he backed away. “Sacha lives in the apartment to the right of me.”
Cursing under his breath, the Red Hood thanked you before practically running out of your apartment to the one next door by leaping off the fire escape. You watched the window for a minute, completely shocked by what had just happened before shaking your head. No, you wouldn’t see him again.
--
Well, what you had told yourself was a fucking lie because you heard tapping on your window. It scared the shit out of you, especially since it was Gotham, but your heart quelled once you realized that it was the Red Hood. With shaky hands, you undid the lock on your window and he climbed in. He looked down at you for a second before moving around your apartment, touching all the nick nacks and looking at the artwork on the walls.
“Hey,” You meekly managed out.
He stopped and turned halfway to you before saying, “Hey. How’s your night going?”
“I should be asking you that,” You said, going over to the couch to continue working on something for school. Your hands had to be doing something, they were shaking too much.
Red Hood groaned. “Gotham rouges are the dumbest fucking people on the planet. Unless it’s someone like Harvey Dent or Black Mask. But, someone like Condiment Kings? Dumb.”
You huffed out a laugh. “Condiment King seriously is just sad.”
“Yeah,” He paused, coming around to sit on the other end of the couch. “You go to school?”
He pointed to the papers and notebooks on the table. You nodded, looking down briefly at the paper you were writing. “Yeah. I go to Gotham University. Do you?” Even through the mask, you could feel him give you the kind of stare that he had to give Condiment King whenever he talked. “Right, you can’t say.”
“Unfortunately, not,” He got up again, walking around until he hit your bookshelf behind you. “You read?”
You got up, following him to the books. “I’m a big reader. You?”
“Can’t say.”
“What will I get of your identity by your reading habits? I’m not Sherlock Holmes.”
He scoffed. “You could just be saying that to get a hold of that valuable information.”
You giggled despite the fact that it was a wildly stupid joke. It was the start of a long conversation. He stayed for almost full three hours before he went out into the night again, promising to come back. Before he left, you stopped him.
“Take this,” You said, slipping him a piece of paper. “Maybe I can convince you over text to tell me what you like to read.”
“It won’t work,” He said.
You grinned up at him. “You haven’t given me enough time to try.”
--
You were laying in bed watching YouTube when an unknown number popped up across your screen with a text.
Just read a great book. You have to guess what it is. Three hints only. The only chance I’m giving you to get insight into my reading habits.
AN; Hi! Sorry to bother you at the end of your reading, but I promise I need to tell you this before I forget and it's important. You might have noticed that there was a really long (long for me at least lol) pause between the last chapter and this one and the quality of the chapters kind of falling short (at least in my opinion), and that is because I am currently on vacation/getting ready for uni. I'm not gonna lie, I am getting pretty used to a whole new country so I might want to/get distracted by focusing on that for a while. So, basically, updates might not be as frequent for a bit. Tho, who knows, I may update like ten chapter tomorrow. I wanted to let you guys know that I am currently dying because writing is literally one of the things that help me cope. lol. I also want to say this too but hearing from you guys really does help, too! I don't always respond bc I am a very shy person but it really does fill my heart up, I really want you guys to know that! love yall!

With the addition of some new people to the Sylvieverse, I wanted to do a proper re-introduction to all my OCs! Part 1 of the masterpost is my three main girls, Sylvie, Sacha, and Sophrine. Keep an eye out for the rest in the next reblog
Deets below cut:
Sylvie, the Nerevarine (starring in: Saint Sylvie, Land of Ash and Heart)
Thanks to some narratively convenient amnesia, can't remember anything that happened to her pre-prison. She's keen on mushroom towers, interior decorating, and flirting with every Nord in sight. Has some of Nerevar's memories, most of them weird sex stuff. Best friend: Falura Llervu. Biggest non-god nemesis: Orvas Dren
Relationship to the Dragonborn: Great-great-grandmother
Sacha Llervu, the Hero of Kvatch (featured in: A Respectable Lady's Guide to Skyrim)
Escaped slavery as a teenager and began a life of crime so she could get rich enough to free her sister Falura. Spends her free time drinking coffee and wine, often at the same time, and doing puzzles. Briefly became the Divine Crusader in an attempt to bring Martin back, which did not work. Best friends: Martin Septim and Sir Mazoga. Biggest non-god nemesis: Count Terentius of Bravil.
Relationship to the Dragonborn: Great-great-great aunt
Sophrine Aulette, the Dragonborn (starring in: A Respectable Lady's Guide to Skyrim, Land of Ash and Heart)
On her dad's side, descended from very sensible Breton innkeepers. On her mom's side, descended from the weirdest assortment of people imaginable. Loves cooking, alchemy, and terrible puns. Has an existential crisis at least twice a week. Marries a loveable himbo named Roggi after blackmailing him into not paying his bar tab. Best friends: Lydia, Mjoll, Serana. Biggest non-god nemesis: Ulfric Stormcloak

Loved The Power of the Doctor 10/10, frenetic and joyful insanity that then somehow becomes a soft spoken open-ending for the entire show (barring the Tennant of course), really happy. Love how peacefully Thirteen went out, loved how open-ended and unspoken Yaz’s departure was. Loved the returns, loved the wank. 10/10. Feels really weird to say goodbye to this era.
Love so much of it is bookended by Dan’s departure? He quickly becomes an afterthought, but I dunno, his “see you later” of a goodbye after deciding to stop avoiding the stark hard work of the real world and “attack it,” it hangs over the whole thing right to he and Graham inviting Yaz to the therapy group.
The Cyber-Masters call back to the Earthshock/Five Doctors David Banks Leader and Cyber-Lieutenant/Deputy. Vain, vengeful, melodramatic, emotional sneer coming through the voice. The Time Lord gore inside still hums and whines with stolen life. I was disappointed their converted planet wasn’t actually Gallifrey, but the idea is still there? The Master’s TARDIS’ core is now the planet’s core, the Qurunx battery enough to power a forced regeneration/TV Movie Body Swap, only be possible with the Eye of Harmony (movie) or “the secrets of Gallifrey” (this episode). Dead Time Lords steering a dead world, a new Mondas, reaching as far back as the Cybermen’s first episode. Ages ago, cloth-faced surgery ghouls, now ornate necrotic royalty. Their rotting castle, their rotting world, hanging over another vestige of imperialism about to violently fall (and for no other real narrative reason other than “Wouldn’t The Daleks and Cybermen All Look Fucking Cool In The Romanov Winter Palace?”).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Qurunx taking the form of the kid. “... shows us what we instinctively want to protect,” the Doctor says, not realizing she’s speaking mostly of herself. Timeless Child reflection. A mystery of the universe captured and exploited by empire. Etc etc. You know.
The Rasputin plot is nonsense, and that’s the point. The Master is fucking pathetic in this, pitiful. Buzzing with the Cyberium, twitching with suicide, his I CANNOT STAND COMING FROM YOU from The Timeless Children rearing up as a childish schoolboy taunt of I’M GOING TO TURN YOU INTO ME. “But then, you were a rubbish schoolboy, too” Ruth later mocks him. Tegan and Ace won’t be phased, hurling insults back, standing their ground. In a take on the Doctor/Master where the Doctor has no time for him, no patience, all burnt bridges and belittling playing along, no one in the narrative hurts for him, aches for him. He’s a nasty little wet gremlin in this, truly the most mean-spirited possible take on the worst Ainley serials with all of s12′s miserable self-hate. Him dying as Rasputin was peak humiliation. “Don’t force me to go back to being me” and then dying in a Rasputin cosplay. I dunno. Very mean-spirited “we’re fucking done with you, dude,” I like it.
Vinder’s so fucking hot. Sacha was so fucking cute in Jodie’s clothes, his short little Doctor haircut, the clip-on piercings, I couldn’t handle it.
The traitor Dalek bringing up the funniest fanwank loophole to justify its inexplicable radicalization lmao. Kaleds, Daleks, who’s truly the impure race? “Did we never rewrite that constitution?” I got way too fucking excited at the quiet nod to Davros. The ease with which the traitor was caught and exploited makes we wonder how often this actually happens within the race? Especially when’s executed by the deeper, nastier, clean commanders while clearly being a magma damaged worker, a grunt.
The TV Movie Body Swap™ verbatim, ho-lee shit, “Dress for the occasion” quip and everything. God. God. The War Games’ forced regeneration careening into it too. And then the Master Doctor, the Doctor Master, “Introducing Sacha Dhawan as the Doctor,” he just collapses under it? He’s even more sniveling and wet, piling on question marks and scarf and fanwank, blowing on Troughton’s recorder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
GOD!!!!! G O D. The robes far more like the TV Movie, the apocalyptic crossroads with telephone wire, Eight and Seven bickering. Ugh.
I’m so fucking glad I reconnected to the Davison era as hard as I did last year because Tegan and Five’s reunion HURT lmao. “Brave heart.” Loved how EU the implication of Seven and Ace “falling out” was?
Tumblr media
Ian and Jo killed me. I like to think the empty chair at the meeting was for Sarah Jane.

Shattered Shadow - Chapter 1
Shattered Shadow Masterlist | Shattered Masterlist | Shadow By My Fireplace Masterlist
This is a long-in-the-making AU collab with the lovely @oddsconvert of Vamp!Cyril and Bloodbag!Sacha meeting and staying with August, Declan, and Lucas.
This is the new canon of the Vamp!Cyril AU, but an AU of Shattered. I changed canon for Vamp!Cyril so that Cyril was turned by Vamp!Emery. I'll leave the rest to the story ;)
If you do not want to be tagged in this (or would like to be but are not), send either of us an ask or message!
CW: whumpee turned caretaker, wounded caretaker, vampire caretakers, human caretaker, multiple caretakers, bloodbag whumpee, multiple whumpees, brief reference to suicidal ideation, references to previous abuse
===
The wound in Cyril’s side gapes and aches, but Cyril forces himself to push through the pain. Sometimes, if he focuses, he could force his undead lungs to take breaths. Sometimes, that helps with pain. However, each breath he tries to breathe only pushes on his wound, making him want to cry out in pain.
He couldn’t cry out, no matter how bad he wants to. He has a recovering human in his arms, one that couldn’t know that he needs help. One that couldn’t know that he was in pain. One that couldn’t know how weak he really was without blood. Human blood, at least. Animal blood keeps his stomach full, but does nothing for his body.
There was a pureblood somewhere near him - one that was a veterinarian for humans. Not bloodbags. Cyril refuses to use that word. Humans. Human beings. People. He could offer his services. He could help a bit while he got his bearings.
They found him and his little Shadow. It has only been a month hasn’t it? Since he murdered his sire and took little Shadow with him to hide in an abandoned cabin? Then, one of his Maker’s loyalists tries to kill him and the human he was taking care of. Cyril hates it. He hates that he ever became a vampire. He hates that he has to run. He hates that he can’t just live in peace, as a pariah of vampire society like he should.
But he can’t die, even if he has nothing personal to live for. His little Shadow cannot return to human society. He cannot survive on his own. It’s Cyril’s job, his repayment, perhaps, to take care of the human and live with him until he can die in peace without vampires hunting him down.
He sees the house. That has to be it. He stops running and puts the human on his feet. His little earthling, taking wild, short breaths looked at him in fear.
“We’ll be okay, little one. We’re just going to be here for a little while. Nobody’s going to hurt you, okay? I just need a little while.”
Shadow nods. His Shadow, the human that sat by the fireplace and followed him around.
Cyril kneels down and looks Shadow in the eyes, grasping his side and trying not to wince. “I would rather die than see you hurt, okay?”
“Yes, Master.”
Cyril nods a bit. He hates that Shadow said that, but could do nothing about it. It was his Maker’s fault. He motions for Shadow to follow him up to the door, where Cyril knocks, praying to a God that forsakes him that they would be okay.
*!*!*!*
August had long grown accustomed to the eerie quiet of the house at night. Wide awake and trawling the house during the dark hours, his day, whilst the two humans were in deep slumber above him. Practically tiptoeing on the floorboards, doing his very best to keep the silence and let the mortals sleep soundly.
He nearly jumps out of his damn skin when someone begins to pound the front door down, an urgent and relentless rhythm to it. The clinic is closed, there’s not a chance in hell he can take any more patients in. Treat any more suffering humans. Not with how much he’s already got on his plate.
August makes his way to the door, dragging his feet reluctantly underneath him. He could just ignore it. Plead ignorance and let whatever wretched soul is undoubtedly out there dragging a half-dead human beside them wander back off into the night. But that’s the thing that stops him - if there’s some poor, innocent being desperate for help, then he can’t turn them away.
He’s right of course. When he peeks through the door, he spots the beady red eyes, and the all too familiar sight of a human desperately clinging onto him. August swings open the door - half in fury, half in concern.
“Apologies, gents. I’m not seeing any patients at the moment-”
“I’m the one who’s wounded,” Cyril says quickly, hoping that the vampire immediately understands. “The human is mine, a gift from my Maker. I was a doctor before I was turned. I can help.”
Cyril seems rather reluctant and there’s an unmistakable hostility in his voice. However, underneath all of it is desperation. He needs help and he needs protection. He needs his little human to be safe.
“He is not in need of medical care.” Cyril looks back at Shadow reassuringly. Shadow is still terrified. “My healing factor doesn’t seem to be working correctly.”
Human. Mine. Gift - August’s mind churns all the words the vampire had used for the small human.
There’s a first time for everything, August thinks; because the cold-blooded vampire's blood actually boils at each word. Grinding his fangs in his mouth and repressing the rage he feels. He has half a mind to grab the human from his side and slam the door in his face. The audacity to stand on his doorstep and plead for help.
How many times had that human begged him for help?
“That seems like a you problem,” August grits through his teeth, clinging onto the door ready to slam it shut at a seconds notice, “I don’t heal monsters. I specialise in humans. Go elsewhere.”
“Please,” Cyril pleads, desperation in his eyes. He can’t let his little human see him fail. “My Maker is not a kind creature. Look at what he did to him.” Cyril motions back at Shadow, who still wears gauze on his face to cover a wound that stubbornly would not heal. Cyril is almost yelling, but trying his best, reluctantly, to be respectful. “I need help. If not for my sake, then my human’s.”
August doesn’t care to glance over the vampire, but his eyes flicker all over the human’s body. Taking inventory of every little scratch to the gnarly wounds, poor attempts at care for them. The boy shivers where he stands and truthfully? August has developed an eye for whether the humans tremble from fear or cold. And this is incomprehensible fear.
“What is the human to you? You said a ‘gift’. Is he your captive?” August questions, raising an unconvinced brow.
Cyril thinks for a long time. Fucking purebloods and their pretentious attitudes. He probably wants Shadow for himself.
“He can’t possibly go home in this state, can he?” Cyril looks at Shadow with gentle care in his eyes. “He just started talking to me. I can’t possibly give up now.”
Cyril grits his teeth, ire flowing through him. If only the pureblood didn’t ask so many questions. Cyril had no doubt the pureblood would expect obedience. Cyril was essentially trading himself over to the pureblood. He was well aware of that and was sure the pureblood was, too.
“I didn’t have proper medical supplies to treat him, but I promise that I am a skilled doctor.”
August can sense the desperation in his voice, and the care lingering in the vampire’s eyes. He just can’t get rid of this nagging feeling that it’s all a facade to pull the wool over his eyes. He turns his gaze to the human, softening his eyes to hide the distrust.
“Hey there,” August’s voice comes out in a mere whisper, in an attempt to speak gently to the frightened man, “Has this man ever harmed you?”
Sacha looks up cautiously, stiffening. He knows little about vampire society, but senses the strength and power coming off of the vampire before him. It sends a shiver down his spine. It’s very different from Cyril - Cyril feels almost human in comparison.
He shakes his head “no.” He’s honest, but he would’ve said “no,” even if he was with his Master. Well, his previous one, in a way. Cyril was his new Master, right?
August takes the moment to ponder - is he really about to do this? Invite these strangers into his home? Of course. His conscience would suffer if he banishes them from his property, and no doubt word would arrive of their deaths. He resigns with a chesty sigh, stepping aside and motioning the pair inside the house. All the while not taking his eyes off the human… Maybe he needed to watch the vampire like a hawk instead.
“One night. Come inside. I will see what I can do, but I make no promises.”
