"HELP" Hobie Brown x reader.
"Arachne!" You turn at the sound of your alias. Your Alias. It roll out of his mouth in a thick sultry English accent, "I need your help."
"Can it...wait?" Your eyes drift to one of the many spider-women around, earth 834: Zarina Zahari. She looked at him with a raised brow and seemed unamused with the interruption.
"No. I need your help," he repeats cooly his large hand presses against your back and starts gently pushing, "...now."
"Oh- o-ok..." You stutter stumbling a bit as you try and wrap up. "I'll talk to you later, Zar! Hobie stop shoving!"
"stop stallin' then, dove." He huffs stopping his insistent pushing only to fiddle with his wrist. A portal opens and you turn to look at him in confusion. "Well? Are we goin'to stand here all day or are you walking through it?"
"where-?"
"go." He gives a gentle push.
"Jesus Christ you are so impatient today." You grumble in frustration going through the portal and falling on a firm bed in a familiar room. Like the occupant of the room it's calm and serene and the colors are slightly different than the last time you were over. It was ever changing. You sit with your legs crossed on the bed your arms across your chest as Hobie falls through much more elegantly next to you.
"dovey-" his voice rings with an air of amusement at you pouty insistence.
"dovey," you mock his thick accent and he takes a deep breath. "Don't dovey me I was having a conversation, Hobie. What is the matter with you?"
"I'm tired." He says simply wrapping his arms around you and pressing his face into the crook of your neck his nose brushes the skin there and he sighs. The little shit is content, "and I don't think I can sleep if you're not here. Shuddup and lay with me."

Crimson Rivers, is it back? What now? Does that mean Zar is back?
So, like a normal, sane reader, when I get an AO3 notification, I immediately drop everything and check it out. In my little tiny brain filled with angst and smut, I was thinking that it was maybe a chapter being updated, or maybe someone I love replying to a comment I left about how their writing is so fantastic and giving them vivid descriptions of how I wish to burn it into my brain because how good it is. Turns out, that was not the case.
It was a fucking notification about Crimson Rivers being posted.
I sat on my bed, and just stared. My brain wasn’t working. I was halfway though a bag of chips that my dog really wanted and staring at an email that bizarrestars fucking posted Crimson Rivers.
And Best Friend’s Brother.
And Just Lovers.
And all of those fics I was dying to read were back. All the fics that had me frothing at the mouth with want and the insatiable urge to consume everything he put back out into the world. And so, I followed the link in my email and oh my god-
They were back.
All of them.
Every single one of their fics was back up and I was fucking psyched because I have an AO3 account and I have access to it again. Me, along with many other fans of his works and readers in this fandom, texted friends and loved ones. We smiled and downloaded the files, swearing that we will never lose those works again.
___
So, like a normal, sane author, when I get an AO3 notification, I immediately drop everything and check it out. In my little pea brain filled with ways to torture my readers and ways to get them off through my words, I was thinking that maybe someone had kindly left a kudos on my work, or maybe even comment on it. All my works are ongoing and to be honest, I was a little scared to open my email because what if it's a negative comment? What if it’s someone telling me that they hate me because I’m sick and twisted, writing the filth I do. What if it’s someone telling me that they hate how I made a certain character bisexual because in their mind, bisexual women can't also be attracted to women? What if it’s someone telling me that the trauma I write about is misrepresented and that I am an awful person for romanticizing it when I swear I’m not, when I know that I’m drawing from experience. What if it’s someone saying the aforementioned trauma is too dramatized, and that the way that I write it as something to be worked through, doesn’t fit their “one kiss and all the bad memories go away” narrative they have in their head. What if it’s someone telling me I should be ashamed, telling me that I am disgusting, telling me that I shouldn't write what I write even though I have hyperlinks embedded in my fics and even though I have additional warnings per chapter and even though I have so many tags the plot is given away. Turns out, that is not the case.
It was a fucking notification about Crimson Rivers being posted.
I sat on my bed, and just stared. My brain wasn’t working. I was halfway though a bag of chips that my dog really wanted and staring at an email that bizarrestars fucking posted Crimson Rivers.

oh my god-
They were back.
All of them.
Every single one of their fics was back up and I was filled with fucking dread, because all I could focus on is how there’s a shiny new prongsfoot fic right there on the top of their page, the first thing people will see. All I could think about is how they talked about people not respecting their wishes with their fics  and how people on the internet are fucking relentless. All I could think about are the videos I will see with people complaining that they can’t read it because they don't have an AO3 account and people attacking them for the two chapter prongsfoot fic right there, and how people fucking idolized the guy, putting him on a pedestal and hailing him as the “best fanfic writer ever, right there along with misskingbean (who may or may not be Taylor swift (I swear, Taylor is NOT misskingbean))”All I could think about is the exit he, and MANY OTHER authors made because people got ahold of their work and were fucking rude about it. All I could think of is someone who was practically pushed off the internet for doing what he loves so well that people started hating when he wrote what he wanted to write, and how now, he’s back and honestly, it scares me a little bit because he didn’t deserve the hell people put him through.
___
Crimson rivers, is it back? What now? Does that mean Zar is back? Short answer, yes, yes, and yes. Long answer, yes but only if you have an AO3 account and ONLY IF people can be fucking nice this time around and maybe remember that zar is a fucking person with fucking feelings and something called a fucking mental health to take care of. Authors have feelings too, we aren’t some mindless fic generator. If you want that, go to chat gtp or some shit. We put our hearts and souls into our work and share it because we want to put it out there, not because we want to get bullied.
Now, I know what you're going to say, “oh, but I just really loved the guy, he was like the second coming of christ with his words like I just really wanted to read more because I loved him so much, like I forgot he was a human because I just loved him and a little love never hurt anyone.”
But like, that’s also really fucking problematic and actually obsessive. Just think about it. Like this guy is a person and like, maybe you shouldn’t treat him like he is anything more OR ANYTHING LESS. Like honestly, he probably didn't start posting his work to gain fame, like this was probably really unexpected for him. AND EVEN IF HE DID, IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU GET TO TREAT HIM LIKE A FUCKING PRODUCT GOD DAMN. Like, this is a PERSON. Imagine if your best friend or little sibling came to you and was talking about people putting enormous pressure on them and being obsessed with everything they do and how they feel like they have to be perfect and please everyone because if they don't, they’ll get harassed online and like, it’s genuinely damaging their mental health. Like, imagine if that happened to you. What would you tell them? Well, hopefully, you would tell them that those people are fucking obsessed and that they need to take a break and maybe, just maybe remove the works so they could put their mind to rest, because that’s better than this. Like come on everyone, can’t you fucking see the problem with that? Idolization and bullying go hand in hand and the poor guy has been though enough.
Also, remember, be kind to the guy and like, idk, treat him with fucking human decency? Don't deadname him maybe? Don't like, idolize him? Don't get mad when he writes what he wants to fucking write because you don't like it? And maybe like, respect his wishes? It should be pretty fucking simple tbh, but apparently it's a difficult task for some of you. He isn’t a fucking god and maybe like, before you comment, actually sit there and reflect on what you are going to say to him.
SO MAYBE, BEFORE YOU COMMENT SHIT, REMEMBER THAT ZAR’S, (and, for the record, every other author’s) MENTAL HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A 800K WORD STORY ABOUT DEAD WIZARDS. LIKE PLEASE, YOU CAN FUCKING LIVE WITHOUT ONE SPECIFIC FIC WHEN THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER FICS OUT THERE, AND SO MAYBE LIKE, REMEMBER TO RESPECT THE AUTHORS WHO WRITE YOUR STORIES.
MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, BEFORE YOU SAY SHIT, THINK ABOUT WHY HE FUCKING LEFT IN THE FIRST PLACE, DEAR GOD.

Down By The River
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Karlach X Fem! Reader CW:Some mature language is used! WC:3.4k+ Slowly rising from my soft bed, I stretched and let out a yawn, letting the sun's warm rays shine down on me through the small window. My mother was outside by the well washing some clothes. As for my father, he was out on the hunt with some of his friends to get some food for dinner tonight. Throwing on what I normally wear, I step out of my room, pass through the kitchen, and to where my mother was outside. "Nice to see you're finally awake," my mother chuckled. "Sorry I was out partying with some friends," I stretched a little better now. "I have you know, you were the one who wanted me to get out in the first place." "I know, but I wasn't expecting you to be sleeping so long." "Kind of hung over, if you ask me. Do you need any help?" "If you're able to go down by the river, can you get some fresh water?"
"The well water isn't good?" "I've been using it to wash clothes, Y/N." "Alright," I said and grabbed the wooden bucket nearby.  Heading down into the woods, I slowly made my way down the hill as I was humming a song my mother sang to me when I was young. It was passed down to our family through the decades and it was always sung whenever a baby was being put to sleep. So whenever I had a child, I would be singing it to them as they fall asleep. I don't know where it came from, but it's a tradition now. Reaching the river, I knelt down and stuck the bucket into the water, catching the flowing water. Carefully pulling it up, I set it on the ground. Since I was here alone in the woods, might as well look around. Wandering around, I took in how the grass rose to my knees and the trees towered over me like the village gates that we lived outside of. There were so many vines hanging down to where I could grab onto them and swing to my heart's content. I would occasionally do that if I was out in the woods here by myself. But my father was usually with me, telling me I need to be more lady like. That I can't wander alone in the woods as much as I please and that I need to think about finding someone soon. He and my mother want a grandchild as soon as I am able, but I do not want to get into a relationship so quickly at the moment. Especially since I haven't come out to either of them.  While I was in my own thoughts, I heard some footsteps coming in my general direction. Peeking around the tree I was standing behind, I saw someone running down the hill, their head looking over their shoulder numerous times before they directed their attention to me. Taking in a deep breath, they rushed towards me. I was about to run back to the house, but something about the way they were running told me that they were fleeing. I heard shouts and yells as a crowd of people were running after this person. I had to help them. I motioned for them to follow me and they ran faster. I took off running in a direction to where I knew we could hide. Once the person caught up to me, I ducked behind a large set of bushes and they slid beside me. Grabbing their arm, I pulled them under the foilage and we tried to settle our breathing. "Where the hells did she go?" "She had to have gone this way, right?" "If she did, the entire woods would be burned down." "I am surprised she ran in here. Considering her infernal engine and such." "Come on," a familiar voice spoke. Poking my head out carefully, I saw my father was walking with some people I didn't recognize. Once they were out of the woods, I stood up carefully before turning to face the person who I just saved. Their red skin gave them away. Actually, it was the one broken horn and one intact that gave them away.  "K-Karlach Cliffgate," I said. She stood up and brushed the dirt off of the leather straps she was wearing. "Yep, that's my name," she said, sighing. "How do you know me?" "Someone named Wyll was talking to my father a week ago about running after a Tiefling who fled Avernus. That she fought in the Blood Wars and Zariel put an engine where her heart used to be."
"You seem to know a lot about me," she narrowed her eyes. "I-It's just that, my father agreed to hunt you down with Wyll." "Well, seems like you're not like you're father at all." "Why would I want to hunt down someone who wants to live?" It looked like she wanted to cry right then and there. She shifted a bit awkwardly, trying to find a comfortable way to show her gratitude towards me. "Y-Yes. I-I want that more than anything! I want to be free and to be alive! I don't know how long this infernal engine will keep running with me no longer being in Avernus. I-I thought I would never find someone who would understand." "Well, I kind of understand what it's like to fear for your life." "Why's that?" she asked. I took a cautious step away from Karlach, but she seemed to read myself better than I could. She nodded her head, backing away as well. "Sorry, didn't mean to get personal when we barely know one another." "I-It's alright. I-I'll just start with my name first, since I know yours. I'm Y/N," I said, sticking my hand out to shake hers. She shook her head, "I-I can't really touch people. When you pulled me into the bush, while you were able to touch me very briefly, it was exactly that. It was brief. But it is nice to meet you, Y/N." "If you ever need help, follow me," I walked over to the river, picking up the bucket that I left there.
"What if you don't come when I do?" "Keep coming until I am there. I will do the same with you." She smiled, "See you around then." "I will look out for Wyll and my father." "Thank you, Y/N." We went our separate ways for now. I returned to my mother with the water, which she directed me to our small kitchen so my father could use it to get lunch ready. He was moaning and groaning about how the Tiefling he was after had gotten away due to someone helping her. Thankfully he didn't recognize it was me who helped said Tiefling. I had to tread carefully down by the river now. A couple of days had passed and I was wandering down by the river, watching the water flow and some of the crawfish swim up and down the stream. There were even some toads hopping around as well as newts and other amphibians. Some birds were flying high in the sky and some landed on the tree branches for a rest. As I was admiring the environment above, I didn't pay attention to the ground below. "FUCK!" I looked down to find Karlach was resting against a tree and I had just stepped on her tail, as she was holding it tightly in her hands. "I-I am so sorry, Karlach," I said.
"Gotta watch where you're going around in these parts," she released her tail, standing up. "Kind of hard to miss a long, red tail mixed in with this green shit." "It could have been a snake." "I doubt a snake will be entirely red." "You never know. They could be." "Sure," she said, nodding her head. "I'm surprised to find you here so soon." "I've been a bit busy with things, such as trying to hide from Wyll and your father." "They're still after you." "They won't rest until I am dead or I am back in Avernus. I am never going back there." "I don't blame you. Fighting for ten years and having an engine for a heart," I said. "Are you able to fix it?" "Fix it as in fine tune it to where I don't burn as much as I do." "Is there a way where we can do that?" "There is a possible way of doing it, but it requires infernal iron." "I think I know someone who can help with that." "Who?" "Dammon. I have known him due to my father and he's a blacksmith. He may have some infernal iron on hand." "Where is he?" "In the village just west of the river," I said, pointing in the direction of the village. "Y/N! Where are you, Y/N?!" my father called.
"Shit, I-I have to go," I said. "W-Will I see you again?" Karlach asked. "I-I can't promise it," I said. "But I will be waiting by the river." Running back towards my house, I found my father at the edge of the house before it lead into the woods. "There you are," he said, placing his hand in the middle of my back. "Where did you run off to in the woods?" "Just by the river," I said. "Find anything good?" "No. Nothing out of the ordinary, if that's what you're asking." "I just want to make sure you're safe. There is a rampaging Tiefling on the loose and I am determined to capture it." "It's not like a Tiefling can walk in the woods without burning it down." "Sometimes yes, sometimes no. The Tiefling we're after has an engine as a heart. That is what makes it dangerous." "What makes it so dangerous?" "This Tiefling fought in the Blood Wars with Zariel. They are a force to be reckoned with. Until we capture and kill this Tiefling, you are no longer allowed in the woods." "Dad, I am not a child anymore!" "I know, but you never know what could go on in there." "You let me in those woods when I was a child a long time ago without any supervision. Don't you think it's a bit ridiculous with what you want from me?" "No." I shook my head, "I am an adult, dad. I can do what I want." "Not while you live under my roof," he said. "Can we at least talk about it?" "No, we cannot." I let out a sigh and I begrudgingly walked into the house with my father following behind me. He kept a close eye on me every time I walked around the house. Whenever he wasn't around, my mother was watching me, even though she knew how much it pained me to not leave the area of the house. She wanted to let me leave, but my father held a lot of power over the two of us, which worried me with how Karlach would go down by the river and find me never there. She'd think I'd abandoned her. Weeks passed and my father would return with nothing. No sign of Karlach and no leads on where she went. She was smart, even though we met a couple times, her hot headed nature was not interferring with her instincts on surviving. Maybe it was a good thing she had ten years of fighting experience. She could definitely hold her own against my father and Wyll, but for how long before her engine gives out? How long does she have before it combusts? Those thoughts were swimming inside my head that my mother knew something was wrong. "Go," was all she said as we were sitting outside together. "B-But dad?" "I'll tell him I sent you to the market to get things. He'll be fine with that." "Are you sure?" "Yes. Something seems to be bothering you." I nodded my head and got up, heading into the woods and running towards the river. When I reached the water, I wandered around, looking at the ground in case I stepped on her tail again. I wanted to avoid that. As I was wandering, I was trying to silence those thoughts as they were coming back. While I had met her about a month ago, there was something about her that I never knew was there to begin with. Letting out a sigh, I sat down on the side of the river, watching the small fish swimming around. About to stick my finger into the water, a stick behind me snapped. I briskly turned and found the fiery Tiefling behind me. There was a wide smile on her face as we were face to face with one another. "Y-You're alright!" she smiled, taking a step towards me. I stood up and walked towards her, "Y-You're ok." "Your father is really after me, isn't he?" "He's not going to stop," I sighed. "What about you? You were gone for about three weeks and I came here to give you the good news, but you never came. But I didn't give up on you." "My father didn't allow me to leave the house because of you." "Because of me?" "Saying you were a force to be reckoned with." "While I do have ten years of experience of fighting in Avernus, I am not as a brute as they lead me to be." "I can see," I smiled. "You're sweet, caring to those who deserve it." She nodded her head, "You seem to read me like a book."
"I just figured it out since I helped you that day." "Wouldn't be the first time someone has helped me." "Did you get your engine tuned?" "I did," a wide smile appearing. "Haven't really rested it yet. But I know I got some work done on it." "Do you mind if I test it out?" I asked. "Of course." Taking a step towards her, I hugged her tightly. She let out a sigh as she placed her head on my shoulder. "It's been so long since I've been able to hold someone. To touch someone." "You're very warm," I said. "I like it." "I could get used to this." Pulling away, I looked into her fire like eyes. "I-I'm going to have to go soon. I can't be away for too long." "You know where to find me," she said, not wanting to let go just yet, but she did. We went our separate ways and for the next few days, my father started to become lenient on me going out into the woods as he came up with nothing on Karlach's location. However, that meant he was going to keep a close eye on me, but in a different way. Every time I tried to go into the woods, he would linger around me. He was going to use me to see if I could be of use to him. I had to do something about him before I give away our meeting place. Early in the morning I headed out of the house and made my way down to the river. As soon as I reached the water, Karlach was sitting there, patiently waiting for me. Walking towards her, I sat beside her. She turned and smiled, placing her hand on my leg, greeting me. "Morning, Y/N," she said. "Morning, Karlach." "Something wrong?" "Y-Yeah," I said. "I-It's my father. He is now keeping a close eye on me, but in a different sense." "You're a grown adult. He doesn't think you'll be able to handle yourself?" "No. I think he's suspicious about me." "About what?" "I've been coming into the woods a lot more than I used to. So I think he's trying to follow me to see if I know anything about you." She shook her head, "I don't want to fight your father, but if he doesn't get the message of me wanting my freedom, I'll have to show it to him." "I don't blame you for wanting to do that. I might let you." She chuckled, playfully shoving me, "I do owe you for saving my life." "You don't need to owe me anything. I was just helping someone live." "Even then, I do need to pay you back for what you've done. I can't live with myself knowing that I didn't pay off a great debt."
"It was nothing, Karlach." "It was everything to me, Y/N." I nodded my head, "Alright. I'll let this one slide." She smiled, "So, what do I owe you?" I stood there, tapping my chin as I was thinking of what she could do to repay this debt. I really didn't want anything other than to be beside her longer. I don't know how much time I would have before we were either caught or her engine ran out. I guess that was the only thing she could do. "I want to spend more time with you." "That's all?" "Yeah." "Usually people ask for me to kill someone for them as their debt. Or to burn someone alive. But never getting to know someone on a more personal level." "Ever since I saved you that day, you never really left my head." "I could say the same thing about you, Y/N." "Why don't we walk and talk?" I asked standing up to take her hand, leading her further up the river. For the entire morning and into the afternoon, it was just the two of us. Nothing in the world mattered in that moment. It felt genuine to be with her. She was a genuine person to be around. Karlach gave off this positive energy despite being used for war for ten years. I really commend her for having such a bright personality. She was just so bubbly that I don't know why my father and Wyll are after her. She really just wanted to enjoy her time right here and right now. The sun started to set and we soon found ourselves sitting against a tree that was far up stream, far past my house and heading towards the mountain range. We were laughing as we sat beside one another, as Karlach told a joke that was absolutely terrible that I only laughed due to her infectious laugh. "You really are a good person, Karlach." "There are better, believe me, Y/N." "To me though, you're a good person." She smiled, "Thank you, Y/N. That means a lot to me." Stretching her arms, she yawned, her sharp teeth being bared to the air. They looked like they could hurt and rip into flesh if she tried. "Your teeth," I said. "What about them?" she turned in my direction. "They look sharp." "They kind of are. Want a first hand experience?" she smirked, one of her eyebrows perking upwards. I leaned towards her, placing my hand on her cheek. She leaned towards me and our lips brushed against one anothers before they pressed up against each other. Her lips were warm, as to be expected. My lips curled upwards as I smiled against her lips. Her mouth slightly opened and her teeth pinched at my bottom lip as she bit down on it. They were sharp, but she wasn't biting with enough force to make my lip bleed. Pulling away, her eyes and aura had changed. Instead of the bright, red flames they were, her engine was now blue and her eyes matched. The flames illuminating her hands were the same color. "W-Whoa," I smiled, admiring her blue flames. "Blue flames are the hottest of all flames," she said. "I got you heated, didn't I?" I chuckled. "Only you can do that, Y/N." I smiled and pulled her into a hug. Once she pulled away, she found her way in between my legs, resting her head on my lap. I giggled as I ran my hand through her red and black hair. Some parts of it felt like they were singed. My hand ran up the horn on the left side of her head while I tapped the broken horn on the right side. She closed her eyes and melted into my touch as I'd occasionally run my hand through her hair and down her arm. Her tail came around and wrapped loosely around my ankle. "Can we stay like this forever?" she asked. "Always, Karlach. Always," I said and leaned down, placing a kiss to her forehead.

OKAY LISTEN
i found really interesting things of Midtown аnd I'm 99% sure it's Clementine's work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is a real rebel. I can already see her promoting the idea of "Outside" and how to overthrow the police state. This is probably one of several reasons why she is wanted.
AND I FUCKING LOVE IT. AAAAAA-
uh um mmmmm--""
By the way this doesn't apply to what is said above, but in the manifesto and in the game itself Clementine is presented as the unspoken leader of the Outsiders. (Gosh the phrase "at any cost" gives me goosebumps with the degree of awesomeness)
Momo said he was the last one to join and his name is the last one on the manifesto. Next after Clementine is Zbaltazar, AND MAN do I miss the information about him??? ugh um-
(it a headcanon time)
Zar is the first to join Clementine as he is interested in how Clem talks excitedly about the Outside and helps to keep up her brave forays into the sewers
(one of which ended with a minor fall and damage to the Clem screen. Hooray for the dead pixels on her left side of the screen, yeah)
Ummmmmmm--
And hell, I like to imagine them as... a couple? Mmmmm yeah~ . And it's because of the photography and the fanfics (I don't regret it, I even like it)
Mmmmmm I better shut up and go to bed but clementzars... That's something else...
DAMN I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I'—

Since writing in her journal about her plan for the summer, Kenzie's mind was spinning with possible outcomes and ideas that could help aid her in her mission. She knew that she had to be sneaky about everything as Jeff was pretty smart and she knew that he might catch on if she acted any differently than normal. It was going to be hard as she was excited for what was to come; so excited that as soon as her phone read 6:30 am, she pulled up Zarah's contact info and pressed the call button.
Kenzie sat and waited for what felt like ages before Zarah answered the phone. She wasn't at all happy to be woken this early.
"One good reason and I won't murder you," Zarah grumped as she put her phone to her ear.
"Would you settle for an I miss you?" Kenzie asked with a hint of teasing in her tone.
"No. What do you want?" Zarah replied and Kenzie gasped dramatically.
"I am wounded that you think I want something," Kenzie told her friend as a small chuckle escaped her lips.
Zarah rolled her eyes and pulled the phone away from her ear as she felt a yawn coming on.
"You just rolled your eyes at me didn't you?" Kenzie asked, knowing her friend all too well.
"Just tell me what you want so I can go back to bed," Zarah responded.
"Ok, ok. I need your help with something," Kenzie said and Zarah took a deep breath.
"You get rejected by someone?" Zarah questioned sarcastically.
"Hey, I will have you know that I am a great catch," Kenzie defended and Zarah burst out laughing.
"That's a good one, Ken," Zarah said through her laughter.
"Seriously Zar, I am, but no, I need your help with something else," Kenzie told her.
"Alright, jokes aside, what is so important that you need to call me this early?" Zarah asked as things settled down and she could sense her friend's eagerness.
"So the other day Uncle Jeff was teaching me how to surf and-" Kenzie started just before Zarah cut her off.
"I bet you fell over," Zarah said out loud without meaning to.
"Oi," Kenzie replied.
"Sorry, go on," Zarah said.
"I was knocked off my board by someone and I sprained my ankle. Anyway, we went home after that and when we got back to Jeff's, there was a moving truck in the driveway next door," Kenzie explained.
"So you did fall," Zarah answered, making Kenzie roll her eyes this time.
"Really? That's what you took from that?" Kenzie asked, somewhat dumbfounded but not entirely surprised.
"Kenz, it's me you're talking to. Yes, that's what I took from that," Zarah responded.
"You're right. I shouldn't be surprised at this point," Kenzie joked.
"Hilarious. Anyhow, what does a moving truck have to do with you needing my help?" Zarah asked.
"Zar, the person moving in was my uncle's old flame, Liz," Kenzie said, finally getting to the point.
"Are you serious!?" Zarah shouted a little too loudly. She quickly covered her mouth and both girls remained quiet for a minute just in case Zarah's parents came into Zarah's room and told the girls to get off the phone.
"I'm not kidding and get this, Mom told me that Jeff and Liz had talked about getting married at one point," Kenzie said as a burst of energy coursed through her veins.
"Holy crap, that's big," Zarah replied.
"I know. I'm still a little shocked cause he never struck me as the type to want to get married," Kenzie told Zarah.
"What did he do when he saw her?" Zarah asked, curious of Jeff's reaction.
"He just stood there staring at her while she got a box from the truck and when she went inside, he scurried toward his place. It was the fastest I've ever seen him move." Kenzie explained.
"I can see that. Has he spoken to her at all yet?" Zarah questioned.
"Well, she came by yesterday with some baking she had done in the hopes of getting to know her new neighbors while Jeff was out, and I invited her in. She seemed nice but when Jeff came home, he stood there like a goober and frowned at us. He made everything awkward, and she rushed out the door," Kenzie explained, feeling the annoyance with Jeff resurface.
"That's not cool," Zarah noted, and Kenzie nodded.
"I know right? I told him what I thought, and he didn't like that cause he stormed out of the house," Kenzie added and Zarah shook her head incredulously.
"What a weenie," Zarah replied, and both girls burst out laughing.
"He is, but once he came home, he filled me in on a couple of things. It was quite interesting," Kenzie replied after the laughter had died down.
"I bet," Zarah said as her neck cracked from the way she turned her head as she stretched.
"The most interesting thing was that when we were talking, he had the same look on his face that Liz had when we were in the kitchen talking about friends, school, and boys," Kenzie said and Zarah's eyes went wide.
"Do you think they miss each other?" Zarah asked and Kenzie shrugged. She didn't know for sure but if she had to take a wild guess, then yes, she had a strong feeling that they missed each other in more ways than one.
"I think so. This is where I need your help though." Kenzie answered.
"What do you need me to do?" Zarah wondered.
"I'm going to get Liz and Jeff together once and for all and I need you to be my sounding board. You up for the challenge, Turner?" Kenzie asked and Zarah nodded enthusiastically.
"Hell yes!" Zarah responded and Kenzie beamed.
The girls spent the next couple hours getting ideas compiled and by the time they were done talking, Zarah's parents were up and so was Jeff.
"Call me if you need any more ideas and if I think of any today at work, I'll text you," Zarah told Kenzie.
"You're the best Zar. I owe you one." Kenzie said and Zarah hummed in agreement.
Kenzie bid her friend goodbye and was about to hang up when Zarah stopped her.
"Hold on, I need the details of how you fell off the surfboard," Zarah said, and Kenzie rolled her eyes.
"Dude, I didn't fall off, I was pushed off," Kenzie replied sarcastically unamused.
"Yeah, ok kenz," Zarah said, and Kenzie raised her brow.
"It's true." Kenzie defended.
Zarah was about to reply when her father knocked on her bedroom door and told her that it was time to get off the phone and get ready for work or she'd be late.
=
Walking into the main kitchen after her call with Zarah, Kenzie found Jeff on the laptop assaulting the keyboard as he typed away. She smiled to herself at the look of concentration on his face. It was very much the same concentrated look her mother got when she was doing something that she didn't particularly want to do.
"Morning." Kenzie greeted as she took one of the Banana chocolate chip muffins Liz had made off the platter given to them and warmed it in the microwave for a couple of seconds.
Jeff barely looked up from the laptop as he gave his niece a mumbled reply.
"What are you doing?" Kenzie asked and Jeff glanced at her briefly.
"Why?" He asked as he continued attacking the keyboard with his vigorous typing.
"I asked you first," Kenzie replied as she popped a piece of the heated muffin in her mouth.
She was hoping to get more of a conversation out of him, but it was useless. He was too far into his task to respond with more than one-word answers.
"Kenz, please." He replied, needing to focus on the amount of inventory, orders, and bills he had to take care of for the bait shop.
"Fine, I'll leave you alone, but I do have a question," Kenzie said.
Jeff sighed and gave her his full attention, though the look on his face told her that he wanted to be left alone to work.
"What?" He asked.
"Do you have a soccer ball?" She questioned.
Her foot had begun to feel better, and she wanted to test its strength by kicking a ball around.
"I do but you need to rest that foot." He said sternly.
Kenzie wasn't the best for letting herself heal after an injury. She was usually up and walking around within a couple of hours if she was able to.
"It feels a bit better, but I just want to see if it's up to kicking standard." She told him.
"I'd rather you not and give your foot more time to heal," Jeff answered, even though he knew she wasn't going to listen to him.
"It's fine Uncle Jeff," Kenzie replied, feeling confident in her ability.
"It's your foot, kid. Ball's in the garage." Jeff replied before going back to the laptop.
"Thank you," Kenzie said as she took her food into her room so that she could get herself together before heading out to kick the ball around.
=
Kicking the ball around felt good. Her foot still hurt of course but it was nowhere near as painful as it was when it first happened. It made Kenzie happy to know that she was right, and her ankle was healing nicely.
"Kenz!" Jeff called from the backdoor. Kenzie looked over at him and walked over to him.
"Yeah?" She asked.
"I'm heading to the bait shop; do you want to come with me or stay here?" He questioned. He knew her answer already but he wanted to check just in case.
"I want to stay here." She told him. This was perfect. She could work on things while he was gone and out of earshot.
"Alright, call me if you need anything but please try to stay out of trouble," Jeff replied, and Kenzie smiled goofily.
"Me? Get into trouble?" She teased and Jeff rolled his eyes.
"Yes, you," He responded, and Kenzie chuckled.
"Don't worry about me. I'm just going to kick the ball around a little more and then maybe play some video games," Kenzie said.
"Ok. I will see you in a little while," Jeff answered.
Kenzie waved goodbye to him and went back to kicking the ball but just as she did that, Jeff reappeared.
"No more strangers in my house while I'm gone," Jeff said as pottery could be heard smashing from the backyard next door, followed by a slight high-pitched scream and an over dramatic gasp.
"My pot!" The person shrieked.
"Kenzie!" Jeff shouted in both shock and warning.
"My bad," She called to the person next door, but no reply came.
"Be more careful with that thing," Jeff cautioned, and Kenzie nodded.
"Safe to say my foot's ok," Kenzie said, attempting to change the subject.
"Inside missy," Jeff replied, moving to the side so that Kenzie could get past him.
"Why?" Kenzie asked.
"So you don't break anything else and because you've been on your feet for too long," Jeff told her, and she couldn't argue with him. She was feeling tired.
"Okie dokie," She responded, walking inside.
Kenzie plopped herself on the couch next to Annie whose tail was wagging enthusiastically.
"Right, I'm leaving now. Call me if you need anything and no strangers in the house while I'm gone and no more breaking things." He reiterated as he grabbed his keys, Annie's leash, and his hat.
"I will and as for not breaking anything else, I'm not promising anything." She replied and Jeff shook his head. What was he going to do with Kenzie?
Kenzie had to laugh at his response to that.
"Come on Annie," Jeff said, encouraging his four-legged friend to come to him so that they could leave.
"Bye," Kenzie told them as they hurried out the door. No reply came as Jeff was practically in his truck and pulling away already.
Kenzie waved to him through the window and when he was out of sight, she went next door. She was going to apologize for breaking whatever it was but as she put her hand on the doorknob, someone knocked on it, making Kenzie jump.
"Flaming Cheetos!" Kenzie shouted with panic as her heart thumped wildly in her chest. She assumed that the person at the door was her uncle, but it wasn't.
Kenzie opened it and came face to face with a kid around her age. He stood a few inches taller than her. He had reddish brown hair, and blue/green eyes and wore an exasperated look on his face.
"Think this is yours," He said as he handed her the soccer ball. Kenzie took it and tried not to laugh as his scream echoed through her head.
"Anyone ever told you that you scream like a girl?" Kenzie asked. She couldn't help herself.
"Do not," He defended.
"Yeah, you do," She told him and he huffed at her.
"No, I don't," He answered.
Kenzie was having too much fun pestering him.
"What were you doing back there anyway?" Kenzie asked, moving on from playfully insulting him.
"What's it to you?" He questioned in reply.
"I believe your exact words were and I quote: My Pot!" Kenzie said, raising her brow at him, silently asking him what he meant by that.
"Not that it's any of your business but I was planting something," He begrudgingly answered.
"You garden?" Kenzie questioned, letting a chuckle escape her lips.
The boy in front of her blushed and glared at her. He wasn't appreciating the fact that she was picking on him.
"I don't need this. Just keep your bloody ball out of my yard," He snapped and walked away.
Kenzie felt guilty for mocking him, so she called for him to stop.
"Wait!" She hollered and he did. He turned to face her, but she could tell that he wasn't impressed.
Kenzie carefully trudged over to him, trusting that he wasn't going to leave her alone.
He just stood there watching her as she inched closer to him.
"Going to keep bothering me?" He asked and Kenzie shook her head.
"I was going to ask if you needed help with gardening," She replied, hoping that he'd forgive her and let her help him.
"Thanks but you should put your foot up." He told her and Kenzie looked at him in surprise.
How did he know that she had injured herself? Unless.....
"You," She said, pointing at him.
"Call it even?" He suggested with a shrug and sheepish grin and Kenzie remained in her spot for a minute contemplating her answer.
She could hold this over him if she wanted to and keep making him miserable, but she could use a friend while in Boca, so she decided to give in to his suggestion......Kind of.
Kenzie pondered and pursed her lips at him while allowing her eyes to roam his body up and down, making him sweat a little bit.
"On one condition," Kenzie said. She had a feeling this kid could help her execute her plan of playing Cupid.
"I'm afraid to ask but go on," He replied.
"I'll let you know eventually. For now, however, I'm Kenzie," She introduced, holding out her hand for him to shake.
He looked at it for a second, unsure of what she was planning but he knew that if he wanted to stay in her good graces and not be the target of her insults any longer, his best option would be to place his hand in hers and reciprocate the handshake.
"Jesse," He responded simply.
"Great. Well, I should go back in," Kenzie told him, pointing in the direction of her uncle's house.
"Aren't you going to tell me your one condition before you go?" He queried.
"All in due time, Jesse, all in due time." She said in a tone that freaked him out a bit.
He gave Kenzie a worried glance and she smirked at him.
"Tell you what, meet me at Pete's burger shack on Wednesday afternoon and I'll tell you," Kenzie said but Jesse grunted, not feeling satisfied with her reply.
"I work on Wednesday," He told her and Kenzie squinted her eyes and bit the inside of her cheek as she struggled to come up with another idea.
"Where do you work?" She asked him.
"I'm not telling you that," He replied warily.
"Eh, fair enough," She responded. She had to give it to him, he seemed like a tough nut to crack, and she would get through to him one of these days; she just had to be patient at least for now.
"I could meet you at the beach on my lunch break," He offered, and Kenzie smiled at him.
"Sounds good," She said, staring at him once more.
Jesse didn't mind it at the beginning as it didn't feel judgmental like the first time she eyed him but then he started to feel like he was under a microscope again and he didn't like it.
"Stop staring at me," He told her and Kenzie looked away.
"Habit, sorry," She said genuinely.
"It's fine, it's just creepy," He replied, drawing a laugh from her which made him smile.
"I'll keep that in mind," Kenzie countered, and Jesse nodded.
"I'll see you on Wednesday, creep," He said as he walked back to his house.
Kenzie chuckled to herself in disbelief knowing that she had just made a friend.
When Kenzie felt confident that Jesse was inside his house, she pulled her phone out of her pants pocket and pressed Zarah's contact info.
<<Call me ASAP! We need to talk.>> Kenzie typed as she texted her friend.
She couldn't wait to tell Zarah about the kid she had just met and was about to recruit.

"But what if you shared the one bed with your sworn rival for the first time directly after the fake out make out??? What then my friend???"
YOU MONSTER (jk) i will simply cease to exist. i will have a heart attack lmao. i cannot properly put to words how this makes me feel. its just, either horny or i am crying my eyes out. fuck it, might propose on the spot jk, too. ur cruel author, my poor little heart cant take this, playing with my feelings like this. meanie >:(
Aw now I feel bad... here, take this quick thing
---
Ceilings have never been quite this fascinating to you.
You've stared at it for... a while now. You're actually not at all sure just how long you've stayed like this, your hands neatly crossed over your stomach, and otherwise perfectly unmoving. If someone walked in right now, they could take you for either dead or a statue, and honestly, you wouldn't mind being one or the other at this moment. Anything would be better than this.
Or than what happened earlier tonight. For crying out loud, you still haven't wrapped your head around it completely, and part of you thinks you never will.
You had...
Ah, shit. No. You can't even think about it. Not yet.
You turn your head to the right, and there they are. The headache of all headaches. You're not sure if they're sleeping or not, with their face turned away from you, but Maddox has kept just as quiet as you have ever since you got back to your room. That goes on to tell everything about the severity of the situation.
You keep looking at them, the steady rise and fall of their chest. They've managed to make themself surprisingly small on the bed that barely had space enough for you two in the first place. You'd almost started crying when you first saw it, but you weren't about to put a 6'4 someone sleep on the alternative option, which would be the miserably tiny two-seater couch, though admittedly the thought to do so had been so horribly, horribly tempting.
And that's how you ended up... here. Like this, lying side by side, quiet as mice. You look away with a sigh, but just as you do...
"Can't sleep?"
You squeeze your eyes closed and sigh again.
"Not really, no."
The mattress dips with their weight as they move, and when you tilt your face back to them, you see that they've shifted to lie on their side, half-closed hazel eyes meeting yours. You hate the myriad of emotion that overtakes you when they do.
"What happened tonight..." Maddox starts, the words dragging a little from hesitation. "If you'd like to talk about it--"
"No." You shake your head, what little you can. "It's fine."
It's as blatant a lie as any, and you know that they know it too, but you just... can't. Not right now. The memory of it is still too raw and real. As though you'd kissed them just seconds ago.
Kissed them. It's such an unbelievable thought, yet it's the reality all the same. You know it from the way your eyes drop to their lips when they murmur, "Then let's not."
The look in their eyes, the cautious gentleness of it, makes your heart flutter. The same gut-twistingly soft emotion can be found in the smile they offer you, and you just wish for it to be gone soon--if not for theirs, then for your own sake.
As though having heard your thoughts just then, Maddox whispers teasingly, a sleepy rasp to their voice, "Don't go falling for me now, darling."
You force out a weak chuckle as they shift to lie on their back again. Even though Maddox is still smiling, it sounds like they... really mean it, and then there's that terrible kind of ache squeezing at your chest again.
"Yeah, no worries about that, la Zar."
They look at you one more time, and you stare at each other a while longer, but neither one speaks. Eventually you both face away, if slowly, and you just...
Yeah.
Yeah.
No worries.
No worries at all.

okay so i wanna talk abt a few things regarding crimson rivers... I've just finished ch 70, btw 🥺🥺🥺🥺 like i get that it's the right thing to be done but that doesn't make it any less devasting 💔
anyways, i kept listening to the same playlist while reading the last few 20 something chapters or so, and some songs became like specific for certain people or certain topics and i want to share that:
• epiphany became Monty's song 🥺 it was playing during his death and i found it to be soo fitting... i wasn't really expecting right there and then, and exaclty as effie was talking to him, breaking down to his dying, it played "with you i served, with you i fall down" and then when he bleeds out it plays "watch you breathing out" but it sounds SOO MUCH LIKE "watch you bleeding out" 💔💔💔 so whenever james or effie were talking about monty, or even right at the begging where both wouldn't leave the bed, i read the whole thing listening to epiphany and it suited so well
• also, be my mistake became jegulus song, somewhere before the second arena, probably before the reaping
• hoax became the song for whenever jegulus or wolfstar were having a hard time and we're talking our taking comfort out of each other's company, touch, tender little moments between them that gave them some sort of security, that to me can be translated into "don't want no other shade of blue, but you, no other sadness in this world would do", like no matter how broken and fucked up they are, the ones who live them will want them and love either way, because of it and not despite.
• safe and sound became the theme for more tender moments, not particularly peaceful because zar and zar's readers do not know an ounce of peace, but ykwim
• bury a friend or glory and gore for action or badass scenes, riddles and albus murder and all that
• i know the end, atlantis, fourth of july, sparks and unsteady for angst moments, heavier or darker in a way i can't really explain
• evermore for marylilly, especially Lilly's issues with anger and the feeling of perpetually having to fighta and grieve, feeling trapped inside what has been her default for years now, but wanting so badly to feel safe, still not knowing how, as like "i had a feeling so peculiar that this pain would be forevermore" and then every time she spends with mary and especially after she opens up with her, "this pain wouldn't be forevermore" because she sees it now
HONORABLE MENTIONS TO safe and sound and eyes open, that i kept returning to at more random moments
ok so i went through the whole playlist but these are mainly the songs i kept going back to instead of leaving it on shuffle and the ones that are heavily associated with moments/people and i wanted to leave that somewhere :)
only one chapter for me to catch up now, I've come so far 🥺

Promise me to take care of Biscuit
I had this cute idea and just wrote it down. I think that's my favourite oneshot
TW: none
Feyre had a bad day and calls Rhys for companion.
Feyre was so relieved when she got home that day, it was like a weight had lifted from her shoulders. She just had the weirdest day of her life. It was like some force tried to make her day as miserable as possible. It already began this morning when she was awoken by the fire alarm in her apartment complex. That was about 6am. It took the firefighters two hours until they announced that they couldn't find anything and it was a false alarm. At this time she didn't have to go to bed again, she had to get ready for work. Which left her with a bad feeling. What if there was another alarm? What if it's not a false alarm this time? Who would save her cat? She didn't have anyone who could take her so she had to leave her at home and got to work. Which just got more bizarre by the hour. First some girl in the office got mad at a guy named Isaac and for some reason she thought it was a great idea to throw a chair at him. To Feyres luck she was just about to pass by them and almost got hit by said chair. Then she saw a hole in the ceiling, that wasn't there yesterday. Some workers were already on their way to repair it. On her way to the break room a piece of ceiling almost fell on her head. The workers just eyed her, not bothering to apologize. An hour later her co-worker Zar managed to set the coffee maker on fire. However he did that was still a mystery to Feyre. On her way home Feyre had to walk through the park because there was construction on her usual route. When she had to pass the pond she could have sworn the geese had some kind of killer look in their eyes. They at least had to be in some kind of mood because they decided it would be funny to chase Feyre through the whole park. She was looking for the keys for the front door when a flower pot attacked her. Her neighbor on the balcony above her at least apologized. Repeatedly.
Now Feyre let herself falling on her couch. Like always Biscuit came out of his favourite place in the pantry to cuddle with Feyre. She laid on her lap and began purring. "My sweet little angel." Feyre whispered, petting her cat. Biscuit was a rescue cat. She was about to be put down when Feyre saved her. She wished she could have saved more animals that day.
With burning eyes Feyre grabbed her phone and called her best friend. The person who was always there for her when she had a bad day. The person she, admittedly, had a big crush on.
"Hello Feyre Darling." Rhys's voice came from the other end. Feyre couldn't suppress her smile.
"Rhys! Didn't expect you here." He chuckled. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing interesting, why?" Rhys asked.
Feyre went quiet, her eyes began burning again. The weight of the day now settling in.
"Feyre?" Rhys asked, concern now lacing his voice.
"Can you come over?" she asked quietly.
There was silence on his end for a moment. "I'll be there in 20 minutes."
"Bring your pajamas." Feyre replied, still petting Biscuit.
Rhys chuckled again. "Feyre, you know I sleep naked."
Feyre rolled her eyes. "Whatever floats your boat, hun. See you in 20." she said and ended the call. She looked down at Biscuit. "Rhys comes over." Biscuit looked up. Feyre giggled. "You like him more than me, don't you? I am deeply hurt."
Feyre didn't know how Rhys did it but he ringed ten minutes later. She walked to the door and let him in. He had a big bag with groceries on his arm. She made room for him to get the stuff in the kitchen.
"Are those muffins?" Feyre asked, awed. How did he do that in 10 minutes?
"Blueberry and chocolate, you're favorites." Rhys said, grinning. He began unpacking the groceries and Feyre saw that he got all her favorites. Did she sound so sad on the phone?
Biscuit came out of the pantry again. Before she could walk through Rhysands legs and make him stumble, Feyre picked her up.
"If something happens to me, will you take care of Biscuit?" she asked Rhys.
Rhys whirled around to her, taken aback by the question. "What?"
"If something happens to me, will you take care of Biscuit?" she repeated. He blinked. "Please. Promise me you will take care of her. You know her best. I don't want her to go from family to family. She's a special cat, you're the only one who knows that her water bowl always has to be 3/4 full, or she doesn't drink. You're the only one who knows that she is afraid of peas, marshmallows, clowns and middle aged men who tuck their shirts in their pants. You're the only one who knows she loves her window hammock and that she needs a place to hide in the pantry. And you're the only one who knows how to calm her down when she panics."
"Why would anything happen to you?" Rhys asked. Feyre shrugged and hopped to sit on the counter, Biscuit still in her arms, purring.
"Guess I just had a bad day." she whispered.
Rhys stepped in front of her and grabbed her chin. Softly, but hard enough that she had to look him in the eyes.
"Nothing is going to happen to you." he said, his voice not letting any space for debate.
"But promise me that you take her if something happens." Feyre said again.
Rhys sighed, he knew Feyre wouldn't let it down until she got a straight answer from him.
"I promise." he said. "But nothing won't happen to you, Feyre."
He stepped again a bit forward. Now standing between her legs. Biscuit huffed and jumped out of Feyres arms, to go to sniff at the grocery back.
Rhys laughed softly.
"What's in there?" Feyre asked.
"Biscuits favourite treats." he answered.
Feyre chuckled and turned to Rhys, he turned his head at the same time. She didn't realize how close their faces were.
His eyes shimmered with something she couldn't place. Hunger? No. Softer.
When his eyes dipped to her lips, something clicked in Feyre. She didn't know what she was thinking as she closed the distance and kissed him.
At first Rhys seemed surprised. For a second, before he relaxed. He tugged her closer to him and she wrapped her legs around him.
When they broke their kiss they smiled at each other. Rhys was about to say something when their eyes fell on Biscuit.
She looked at them as if to say finally.
Rhys smiled brighter and looked back at Feyre. "Now tell me about your day."

Just thinking. Gaster had been in the void for quite a long while, surely long enough to where he was used to not seeing anything. So when Sans teleported him out, I feel like suddenly having light in his eye would've left him hissing in pain as he shields his eye, and all the dialogue that's in that scene gets put on hold for several long minutes XD
Tumblr media
TRULY THE GREATEST PUNISHMENT OF ALL assuming eye sockets work for skeletons like that, haha.
Gaster swearing is like :o but I was thinking about that one older comic where he swore in front of the brothers and they started copying him, much to his dismay. Not a common thing, but sometimes!

thinking about zarina and her partner laying in bed and her partner/lover hugs her from behind and lets their hands go under her shirt and play with her chest. not even for sexy reasons. eliciting a confused or a chuckle from zar as she goes 'stressed?' and they reply 'it was you who said your chest was like to stress balls, I'm following what I was told, the premium vip stress balls' and like it can go both sexy or they can just laugh it off before maybe falling asleep or smth. anyways. it funny and stoopid.

Library Book Haul~ Part 1(?)
Tumblr media
Hey, hi, henlo, and howdy everyone!
Today's post is a rather unexpected one mainly because I wasn't going out with the intention of getting something to post about (I had to go into town for jury duty). And after 30 minutes of staring into a void of faces whom you'd think I'd be familiar with being from a small town but knew not but a single person, the judge came into the room, announced all the cases for the day had already been taken care of, and that we were free to go!
A silent round of applause for my local judge getting it done!
So with many hours of free time and a library just across the road from said courthouse, I made my way inside and needless to say, I was not disappointed in the selection~
And onto the post we go!
I will be posting photos of the books I acquired along with a synopsis I obtained from Goodreads and I will also be posting a link below to Amazon where, if you're interested, you can purchase a copy for yourself! *This is not sponsored, I just like to be helpful wherever I can*

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas {Synopsis}
When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.
At least, he’s not a beast all the time.
As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.
From bestselling author Sarah J. Maas comes a seductive, breathtaking book that blends romance, adventure, and faerie lore into an unforgettable read.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo {Synopsis}
Galaxy “Alex” Stern is the most unlikely member of Yale’s freshman class. Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. By age twenty, in fact, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most elite universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?
Still searching for answers to this herself, Alex arrives in New Haven tasked by her mysterious benefactors with monitoring the activities of Yale’s secret societies. These eight windowless “tombs” are well-known to be haunts of the future rich and powerful, from high-ranking politicos to Wall Street and Hollywood’s biggest players. But their occult activities are revealed to be more sinister and more extraordinary than any paranoid imagination might conceive.

The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty
The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty {Synopsis}
Nahri has never believed in magic. Certainly, she has power; on the streets of 18th century Cairo, she’s a con woman of unsurpassed talent. But she knows better than anyone that the trade she uses to get by—palm readings, zars, healings—are all tricks, sleights of hand, learned skills; a means to the delightful end of swindling Ottoman nobles.
But when Nahri accidentally summons an equally sly, darkly mysterious djinn warrior to her side during one of her cons, she’s forced to accept that the magical world she thought only existed in childhood stories is real. For the warrior tells her a new tale: across hot, windswept sands teeming with creatures of fire, and rivers where the mythical marid sleep; past ruins of once-magnificent human metropolises, and mountains where the circling hawks are not what they seem, lies Daevabad, the legendary city of brass, a city to which Nahri is irrevocably bound.
In that city, behind gilded brass walls laced with enchantments, behind the six gates of the six djinn tribes, old resentments are simmering. And when Nahri decides to enter this world, she learns that true power is fierce and brutal. That magic cannot shield her from the dangerous web of court politics. That even the cleverest of schemes can have deadly consequences.
After all, there is a reason they say be careful what you wish for...

The Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) #58: To Kill a Spider-Man!
Read Date: January 15, 2023 Cover Date: March 1968 ● Writer: Stan Lee ● Penciler: John Romita ◦ Don Heck ● Inker: Mike Esposito ● Colorist: {uncredited} ● Letterer: Sam Rosen ● Editor: Stan Lee ●
Tumblr media
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● yesssss, Mecha JJJ is back, y'all! ● Ka-Zar has lost his nipples but gained a Spider-Man! ● aww, Zabu got left behind again. Kitty might start taking that personally ● Bondi Beach: Ka-Zar Edition #IYKYK ● the shock of hitting the water cured Spidey's amnesia ● (pg 3) Professor Smythe is on the phone for JJJ ● Smythe has improved his method to "completely crush the web-spinner" and "this time--it can't fail!" ● meanwhile, Col. Jameson has his orders to go overseas, so he can't stay behind to help Captain Stacy clear Spider-Man ● (pg 4) Gwen and Harry are with Aunt May in the hospital. (Gwen actually looks like a normal person here, and not the long-lashed, wide-eyed, ever-smiling sex kitten she's usually drawn as)
Tumblr media
● (pg 5) Spider-Man has relayed his story (off panel) to Ka-Zar, and somehow living in the jungle makes Ka-Zar a lie detector, so he believes Spidey ● (why do so many people have white irises? It's creepy!) ● warning roar of Zabu below ● Zabu was running amok because he couldn't find Ka-Zar. K steps in before the police can shoot kitty and destroys some cops' guns in the process ● (pg 6) now Ka-Zar is on a rampage (and someone says that K's estate in England has enough money to settle for damages) ● finally Ka-Zar and Zabu leave ● (pg 7) Spidey remembers Aunt May and needs to get to her fast, but he's out of web fluid ● first he has to go back to his apartment to change clothes ● JJJ goes to Smythe's to see what he has to show ● (pg 8) the Invincible Spider Slayer
Tumblr media
● JJJ says, "Nobody's talking about murdering him! I just want him captured, see?" / Smythe says, "I just took poetic license, Mr. Jameson! Spider Slayer sounds so much more dramatic." I mean… he ain't wrong. ● (pg 9) aww, Col. Jameson came to say goodbye to his dad before he ships out, but JJJ is out of the office. Kinda sad that they'll miss each other. ● (pg 10) Spider-Man is feeling too woozy to wall crawl all the way across town and decides he needs a ride; he hops onto the top of a bus; it's slow, but it gives him a chance to rest ● but someone in a building above sees him and starts shouting for police ● (pg 11) the Spider Slayer is on the move, and Smythe and JJJ follow it in Smythe's car ● Spidey gets to his apartment, tries to call May (no answer, of course), starts undressing for bed, then his Spidey-sense starts tingling like mad ● (pg 12) he looks outside and sees the Spider Slayer walking up the wall. Mecha JJJ says, "We got him dead to rights… burglarizing someone's apartment!" ● (pg 14) Smythe and JJJ fumble over the controls. Smythe tries to hit Spidey with a deadly ray, which alarms JJJ ● (pg 16) the robot follows Spidey into a garage; Spidey tricks Mecha Smythe into shooting out the main support beams with the laser ● Spidey gets out and the robot is trapped under the rubble, but Spidey doesn't think it'll hold it long. He takes off to find Smythe's lab ● heh, Spidey looks up Smythe's address in the phone book ● (pg 17) but he doesn't know Smythe's first name, and there are a couple dozen listed in the phone book ● but apparently the word "scientist" is listed after the name, so Spidey has found the right one ● (pg 18) the robot catches up to him at Smythe's lab, and now the controls aren't working ● (pg 19) Smythe increases the power to the absolute maximum ● all the spiders in Smythe's lab made the robot short circuit ● JJJ angrily throws Smythe out of his office ● Spidey goes back home, still can't get hold of Aunt May ● goes out to find her, runs into Ka-zar and Zabu ● 👏👏👏
Synopsis: Having defeated Spider-Man in battle, Ka-Zar takes Spider-Man to the rooftops to learn the truth about why Jameson hired him to capture the wall-crawler. When Spider-Man revives, he finds that his memory has been restored, and so he tells the whole story. Ka-Zar believes Spider-Man but soon departs when Zabu is threatened by police officers in the area, Spider-Man slinks away during this altercation between the police and Ka-Zar.
Meanwhile, Spencer Smythe has contacted J. Jonah Jameson because he has created a new Spider-Slayer robot for Jameson to use in his quest to capture Spider-Man. They send the robot out, which tracks Spider-Man down to his apartment where he is about to change back into Peter Parker. When he notices the robot, he battles it across the city. When Jameson proves unable to capture Spider-Man, Smythe takes control and sends the robot after Spider-Man determined to kill the wall-crawler. This is more than what Jameson wanted and calls Smythe on the fact that he intends to kill Spider-Man for his own revenge, instead of turning him over to the police. However, Spider-Man manages to defeat the robot by luring it to a spider exhibit where it's spider-detecting device overloads and causes the robot to explode. With yet another failure with one of his Spider-Slayer robots, Smythe is thrown out of Jameson's office.
Spider-Man returns to his apartment where he changes back to Peter Parker, on his way out to find out what happened to Aunt May in his absence. On his way out the door he bumps into Ka-Zar and Zabu, Ka-Zar tells the young man not to be afraid that they are only on an evening stroll.
