Y'all can keep complaining about the lack of queer representation in anime, and the fact that when there is, it's usually censored. I mean, it breaks my heart to see that in 2022, a certain studio felt the need to cover up a kiss scene with a very convenient shot of a sword (Requiem of the Rose King, I'm looking at you!) Hell, I'm all for demanding more from these studios. It took us a while to get to Yuri On Ice where we had a gay relationship at the forefront (which, might I add, also had a kiss scene that was censored, a choice made outside of the creator's hands), and only about 5 years ago did Bloom Into You get adapted, plus Given shortly after that. Yeah, it's taken way too long for progressive anime to enter the limelight. Sure, there are a few wonderful queer series out there today (ex. Stranger by the Shore & Sasaki and Miyano) but when another series takes a step back from where we are, it's disappointing to say the least. That doesn't mean we should give up hope though. I believe it's important that we're grateful for what we have, and remember that anime won't always spell it out for us (cough cough SK8: the Infinity cough cough), and that's something we're unfortunately going to have to live with. Have hope, my friends. And if you're looking for a pick me up, a David Wald dub is always the way to go!

This was a strange work for me. At about 2:00am, I felt compelled to make this. I had gotten in the habit of drawing yuri at least once a day and wanted to complete it, even though i should be going to bed soon and "day" is a strange term for my sleep schedule.

Objectively, I see a number of things wrong with this work. The hands are different sizes, I'm not sure I got the arms right, and I'm not sure the expressions and placement of the eyes right. I think the heads are a little too big and spherical.

On the other hand, this seems to have had better results than some of my other work.

Normally, when I make art, I do a lot of thinking. I sketch the skeleton, think about where the muscles would be, try to measure things against other things.

But when I made this work, I thought comparatively little. I thought about putting their heads at different but complimentary angles and that's it. I didn't think this work, I felt it. I felt calm and relaxed.

Thoughts?

Asumi-chan is Interested In Lesbian Brothels! Vol 1 Quick Review

Asumi-chan is Intrested in Lesbian Brothels! is a serious and utter delight. This is an adults only book but it is a really cute romance story too. Asumi is using lesbian brothels to find her first crush and say sorry for saying their first kiss was nothing special after getting a tip from her best friend and senpai. For her crush Mai her feelings are mutual and she's never quite gotten over her first crush and wishes she could meet her again. Asumi hooks up with a new girl every week in order to pay for her brothel visit and sex happens. The sex is really cute and we see Asumi developing as a young lesbian as she goes from worker to worker. There is good chemistry between Asumi and the girls in the first volume and her new boss is really fun.

When we dive into Mai's perspective after having her hyped up we see she is also kinda a big pathetic but in an adorable way and still very much pretty and skilled. The manga is well paced and pretty funny. There is a lot of really well done jokes in it. There is 3 sex scenes and one almost sex scene which ironically was probably the hottest scene for me personally.

There is nothing kinky here if your here for porn, just a girl who hasn't had sex before slowly learning what she likes in sex. Maybe further volumes will expand on that there was a lot of talking about kinker sex but the kinker sex talked about so far has been BDSM so if it's getting into it it is like the basic kink that gets explored probably.

Overall, I think even if you aren't a sex enjoyer [which I mean, I don't like sex in real life] I think you'll have fun with this. It is a really cute romance story, with fun little dynamics being explored and very humanized lesbian sex worker characters.

Yuri Master Akiko Morishima Explores the Single Life of an Older Lesbian in Newly Released Manga

On February 15, 2023, Akiko Morishima released the English version of her doujinshi THE SINGLE LIFE vol.1: 60-year-old lesbian who is single and living alone (Hitorimi Desu: 60-sai Lesbian no Single Seikatsu) digitally on Amazon. She released the manga under the name Akiko.

The author describes the 30-page manga:

This is story of a 60-year-old lesbian who is single and living alone. Miyuki is single, female and a lesbian. No girlfriend, no life partner... and today is her 60th birthday. This is the first in a series of short stories that portray the single life of those who are of a sexual minority and are middle to senior aged.

A Japanese edition of The Single Life was released on Amazon in January.

Akiko Morishima is a celebrated Yuri author. She has created LGBTQ+ works for over 20 years, exploring realistic depictions of queer romance, culture, identity, and life. Many of her works, such as The Conditions of Paradise (Rakuen no Jouken), published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment, featured adult characters even when such depictions were uncommon in the Yuri genre. Her other works include the manga adaptation of Yuri Bear Storm (Yurikuma Arashi), licensed by Tokyopop, Hanjuku Joshi, and Renai Joshika. She has also contributed to the Chocolat and Syrup (Seven Seas) Yuri anthologies.
