Content warning for police violence, anti-indigenous racism, ableist language, and sexual violence.
RCMP officers referred to First Nations pipeline opponents as "orcs" and "ogre" during a police raid at a blockade of Coastal GasLink pipeline construction in November 2021, according to audio recordings played in court Wednesday. The recordings were played as evidence in B.C. Supreme Court in Smithers in an abuse of process application filed by Sleydo', also known as Molly Wickham, a Wing Chief of Cas Yikh, a house group of the Gidimt'en Clan of the Wet'suwet'en Nation; Shaylynn Sampson, a Gitxsan woman with Wet'suwet'en family ties and Corey Jocko, who is Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) from Akwesasne, which straddles the Quebec, Ontario and New York state borders.  The accused were found guilty last week of criminal contempt of court for breaking a 2019 injunction that impedes anyone from blocking work on the Coastal GasLink pipeline.  The abuse of process application alleges RCMP used excessive force when they were arrested and that they were treated unfairly while in custody. The filing asks that if the judge doesn't stay their charges, then it would be appropriate to reduce their sentences based on their treatment by police.

https://lnkd.in/etGUdjdc  "YESTERDAY 1 July 2021 AT GIDIMT'EN CAMP, WE DID NOT CELEBRATE CANADA DAY. INSTEAD, WE TRUTH TOLD. We told the truth about Canada, its history and its present relationship with Indigenous people. We continue to be enraged by the mounting numbers of children being recovered from residential 'schools' across Canada, and we continue to be enraged at the state's lack of redress for the genocide of our children, and resulting generations of families. We know that Canada stole our children from the land so they could profit from those lands. We now experience Canada's genocide of our people and future generations through the destruction of our lands and waters by extractive industries that do not have our consent. The RCMP were enforcers of genocide in our past and continue that legacy into the present…” @Gidimten @smogelgem @UnistotenCamp

As you see all these struggles going on all over the world—in Atlanta, in Lützerath, in Gidimt'en, and beyond—and wonder what you can do when you're so far away, remember:
The system is everywhere; we can attack it anywhere.

Posted by Gidimt'en Checkpoint Facebook page May 24, 2023:
The devastation to our toh (water) and yintah (land) is immeasurable. This is toh we drink. This is where the salmon start their lives. This is our sacred headwaters that feed EVERYONE downstream all the way to the west coast.
We knew this would happen. CGL tries to blame the climate crisis and being surprised/unprepared but the fact is they knew what they were getting into and simply don’t care.
CGL has a stop work order (ref: 20230027_OR001) from the EAO in the Gosnell Creek section EXCEPT for the work to cross Gosnell Creek!
This has to stop. These are the people within colonial government that can do something about it and are choosing not to. They clearly won’t listen to us so maybe they will listen to you. Be loud. Be persistent. We all live downstream.

RCMP are headed to a second camp and checkpoint on a northern B.C. forest service road to enforce a court injunction that would allow Coast GasLink access to the road and a bridge.
The Unist'ot'en camp is one of two set up by members of the Wet'suwet'en Nation to prevent Coast GasLink workers from gaining access to the road near Houston, B.C., about 300 kilometres west of Prince George.
On Monday, RCMP entered the fortified checkpoint at the Gidimt'en camp on the forest service road to enforce the injunction, granted in December, ordering people to stop preventing workers from gaining access. Fourteen people were arrested.
Members of the Wet'suwet'en Nation established the camps with fortified checkpoints, saying Coastal GasLink workers can only pass if they have consent from hereditary leaders.
“Media are not being permitted to pass the RCMP exclusion zone established on the forest service road at the 27 kilometre mark. (...) At least two journalists remain with the group at Unist'ot'en and are reporting along with members at the camp that an RCMP helicopter was seen flying overhead this morning.“
